Seems like most of our calls are people asking for diagnosis/antibiotics/testing and some using it as their own private concierege MD for chronic issues. 99% of it can wait until the next business day or requires evaluation. I get the impression people think we are paying an MD to sit in a room all night waiting for calls since everyone takes their sweet ass time getting to their symptoms… Pharmacy/stat/critical results I understand getting paged.
If you do take call for your outpatient practice, what are your rules/policies? Can/do you bill as a telemedicine visit? What are the legal risks and ramifications associated with rx over the phone? (anyone have actual sources, illinois preferably, so I can bring it to the practice, I don't prescribe over the phone as is but some in our group do which causes problems for the rest of us).
If you don't take call (aside from urgent/stat results and pharmacy), why not?
Thanks for any input!
