i’ve started running again as I can’t get to the gym and i’ve had pain in my shin for a couple of days. it’s getting more prominent and uncomfortable. I’m not sure if it’s the new style of exercising or if it’s an injury? when i’m running it’s fine, but when i’m not doing anything it hurts more
Lol there’s a science teacher in my school named Jeffrey Rizzo
When I do the foam roller exercises it hurts my leg a lot, is this normal?

Hey, just wondering because I feel my condition of shin splints are a bit extreme, or even beyond that.
So I had shin splints since a year ago but I was never really running. I know it was shin splints because the pain always occurred on the crural side of my shin.
After Christmas day, the shin splints automatically went away.. its weird tbh but it was a Christmas miracle I guess.
Anyhow this year I got into cross country and I was running a lot, but in shoes that were made for court sports such as handball. I didn’t begin getting pain until I was hanging out with some of my team members over the summer by playing soccer. They kicked the ball directly into the spot where I always got the pain and somehow I felt a slight trigger of that familiar pain I used to have. No bones were fractured, but I don’t know if this could have caused the shin splints to come back, which it seems like it did. This happened somewhere in late August.
After this, my shin splints have been worsening and I have actually been pushing myself through it up to this day now as we speak. The pain isn’t usually there until I slow down from my race pace to my jogging pace. Once I stop running in general, the pain will spark up and elevate to an extreme state where I will remain in agony for about 10 minutes at most.
Anyhow, sorry I’m giving you this much to read, but I’m really hoping you’ll respond to this as I have spent a lot of time typing this up for you to give your answer.
My question is, with all these tips that you have given within the video, do you think it’s not too late for my shin splints to go away?
Could shin splints become permanent due to the time of dealing with them or no?
Just wondering since the pain I have to go through every day just from doing something I enjoy is a real turn off for me. However when I see your videos with you running, it sort of keeps me motivated since you seem to be an amazing runner.
Hope you respond when you can.
Thanks:D

I had serious pain in my shins and i stoped from workout for about 3 weeks and i used some gel for cooling the muscles
Now i still feel them but just sometimes (at work, when walking…)
But now when i start my workout (jumping rope) i feel them less (when muscles gets warmed up)
Is that small pain common or it is warning?
Maybe i have to go through it.
I mean, should i wait more or i can workout normally
Btw nice video!:)
Seems to be a fix / patch up the problem in this comment section, I tried all this rolling bs, stretching and new shoes all was shite. I had them for 14 months spent 300 odd pounds on new protective shoes, nope did not help if you have a smiller case try this. 1rest, rest till if you push deep into the pain site there is 0 discomfort ache, pain, swelling all gone this took me a long time about 8 months, don’t know why just did.2 while you are resting analyze what the problem is weak arch for me and a body imbalance from a twisted spine. 3 find solutions for me trial and error was the name of the game still I was given a book about bare foot running. I gave it a go along side strength exes, small amounts of stretching, bare foot running strengthens your foot alot fix my falling arch very fast. 4 build up, I started walking then w/ running, then just running and now I’m here it sounds easy but if you’re like me it’s the hardest part. 5 prevention is everything, keep preventing all the time Ice cool down, cold showers, str exs, change terrain and tempo, objectives, gradients, I run 6 times a week plus curcuts and bleep test, how I change all the variables each session if on Mon I do a long run, and a. 3 miler the next a circuit and a bleep test both on grass, and so o 6 Be very patient it s the bugger waiting and waiting, and it will come back again but promise you’re self it will be stronger each month.I remember I got a wrist injury from gym, thought it would never heal ever 2 years later with no assistance problems at all. Hope this helped.
I went to NYC and I got them on both legs near the tibia I walked 4 hours. I can’t walk nor rest without pain
I’m researching treating shin splints naturally and found a great resource at Remedy Fixer Blueprint (google it if you are interested)
im a 23 yr old fairly fit hiker… love it, been doing it for years, 5 months ago i even went to new zealand for a walking holiday… but with 2 weeks left before coming home, the dumbest thing of the trip happened, i lost my glasses and miss judge the height of a top bunk… i fell 6 feet shin first onto a table edge, one massive yellow lump, skin tear and 5 days on my arse later, and im back doing a 15k bush trail… but as i said its almost 6 months later… and im getting shin splints on the leg (not even walking that far really) i have a slight scar on the skin tear still however, anybody got any tips? should i even bother seeing my doctor about this? any advice is much apreciated.
My pain is on the medial side, is this still a shin splint? It acts up as I’m running and after, it has come and gone pretty quickly, but tonight it was really bad, couldn’t finish my run and had to limp home. I took an ibuprofen and acetaminophen, now I’m wondering when it will be safe to go back to running. I am training for a 10k. Just a personal goal. But haven’t done any exercise in literal years so that’s why I’m guessing I got this injury. I’ve never had this pain before from running. Guess I’m getting old now
1 take some rest
2 do calf and toe raises
3 use proper running shoes
4 don’t run on hard surface
5 do stretching exercises
6 take massage
7 do icing 3-4 times a day
8 use calf compression sleeves
9 calcium supplementation
10 use form roller after workouts
11 drink plenty of water
12 slowly increase intensity of your workouts
13 visit physiotherapist for treatment”ultrasound therapy” is best.
NOTE: avoid running in too much pain, it can cause u stress fracture.
What has and is working for me is doing a workout just balancing on one leg (this will work muscles in your feet that you never use), increasing mileage slowly, and using a stick after runs. This is coming from a guy that would get shin splints after a mile of running.
I have chronic anterior chin pain. Will try this procedure. Thanks for posting.

Im a volleyball player and i have got shin splints. I have most likely got it because of the landings after i jump and spike. It is very difficult to stop playing in the middle of a important season. I would really appreciate if someone could give me some advice.
How much time would it take to recover from shin splits using all of these excersises and stretches
Hey Dr Jo. Been following you for a few years now and love your vids. But I have a question. What is the difference in using the band sitting down and flexing the foot away and toward you ( 3:40) versus doing standing calf raises. They both seem to be the same principal.
Hi doctor jo! I love your videos. I suffer from shin splints after about a week of running. The pain is usually on the inside of my shins and wont normally go away until I stop running for a week. I found some very supportive shoes that has prevented the pain from recurring. My concern is that I am gearing up to leave for bootcamp. From my understanding, the shoes they provide arnt the best. I was wondering if there are any stretches or strengthening exercises I can do without equipment to prepare my shins for almost anything. Please and thank you!
Okay surprisingly I got them in marching band last year. Out of all things. I think it was my shoes now. Went through all of marching band that year with them and that was a really dumb decision
I am from india..and i was suffering from it..but your video helped me a lot❤❤
i started to jog 2 times a day on tarr road…after 20-25 days…my legs started aching and i stopped running..the pain 3-4 inch above ankle and i stopped my jogging after that…nearly for 3 months…and on one fine day..i tried to strt jogging…bt it hurted a little bit…what can it be?.and shall i do for this?..pls rply
How long before working out or running should you do these stretches?
Thanks Dr Jo these stretches and exercises cured my shin splints in a week and a half. Two to four times a day.
Can I do these exercises if I have patella tendonitis. I have both (patella tendonitis & shin splints). I have noticed that toes movement are different in patella tendonitis exercises ( toes are pointed towards you) while toes movement in shin splints exercises are the other way around.

What if your shins hurt on the lower inside of your shin not on the outside?
I recently started running outside cause the gyms are closed and I noticed this pain. I thought it was muscle soreness but I believe it’s shin splits. I took 5 days off of running and just went for a 5k run today and it hurts sooo much to walk now. What should I do??
Hi Docotor,
Can shin splints cause knee pain and knee tendonitis? I cant find the real cause of my knee pain and the scans are ok. I have tried to find a connection or cases that links shin splints to knee pain on the internet, but could not find any..
I find that doing these stretches really stretch/hurt like right above my foot, where my foot connects to my shin, so to speak. Is that the place I should feel it or?

Hello Dr Jo! For most, thanks for he informative health to good fitness videos. secondly, I love the socks that looks like the food condiments on a hotdog and it resembles the muscle and bone look of the anatomical male model. Thanks again for everything. Keep up the Good Work!

Good basic tips for runners, very poor tips for shin splint sufferers. Shin splints are typically caused by muscle stress along the tibia. As you perform activities like running, walking, etc. these muscles are tightening as they contract. To alleviate tight muscles, they need to be stretched. The best way to alleviate shin splints is to stretch not only the calf muscles but the posterior and anterior calf muscles….here’s how: lean against a wall with one or both legs straight as you would normally stretch your calf, now slowly bend at the knee. As you bend your knee you will feel the muscles in the front of your shin stretch. Do this regularly and your shin splints will disappear and you will wish you knew this sooner!
This video worked wonders for me I do them every morning and every night and as long as i keep up with them my shins dont bother me at all

dr. I do stretching every day before and after running but my shine pain is not stopping every day it is getting more and more plg give me some solution
0:44 Gastrocnemius Stretch
1:16 Posterior Tibialis/Soleus Stretch

What if the heel wants to push outward when you do the sitting stretch? And would you still recommend working out with shin splints? It started with running and I’ve cut back and started walking creating intensity with my elevations instead.

Hello Dr Jo i got these shin splints after doing 50 jumping jacks and running on the spot for a minute or so, i get very little exercise ( starting now) and haven’t for a few years, is that somewhat normal, simply using muscles i havent used in a while, and in your opinion will it get better the more i exercise/ use them?, I wouldnt think 50 jumping jacks would cause shin splints unless its because im out of shape. Thank you
I got shin splints after doing basketball suicide sprints. It is the stopping and bending down to touch the floor which causes the trauma to my shins. It didn’t get better for three weeks.
Shin splints are caused by inflammation of the muscle, tendons and bone fascia by doing too much too soon or changing your routine. They can also be caused by micro fractures in the bone. Strengthening and stretching your calves and shin muscles will help to absorb the impact when running, along with good shoes and form.
Need help on straight out my knee so I can walk around better

I’m 200 pounds btw
Being able to play football (soccer) literally saves my life and helps me get out of my life for a few hours and gives me something to take my mind off of troubles I’m having. I eat, drink and sleep football so when my shins started acting up and wouldn’t go away I knew what it was and it fucking killed me inside because I wasn’t confident with managing said injury but this video will hopefully help a Lot. Thank you for uploading. Any other tips from anyone else who’s struggled with splints before feel free to chime in as I could use all the help I can get
I remember getting them in my Freshman Year of high school and I missed out on the first half of my football season (soccer) because I used them so much I got a really bad stress fracture and I also broke my wrist.
Thanks v much for this I have been doing the limber 11 and workouts 3 times a week I had plantar fasciitis (recovered now thanks to stretches) and also mortons in both feet largely due to excess weight I am now in process of losing with an online trainer guy and 3 workouts a weeks bodyweight resistance my issue is that I recently went to a trampoline park with 2 young relatives age 9 and 7 and was ok for a while jumping after my morning workoutthen I got a pain in my right shin and my right side generally felt a little painful but not terrible. I am a lot stronger than I was, and building up every week gradually My training is generally good. I am 55 and mildly hypermobile and dyspraxic so I have some muscle tone issuesbut I am getting there! I love how you have the exact same colour ball and a guitar in your picturepretty much my living room too! Thanks again:)
jesus.. That was a lot of words. Structure your videos better
I lost 60 pounds in 2014 by running 10 miles every day, but I gained it all back when I was preparing for university entrance exams, and now I am trying to lose it again. but the problem is that I developed shin splints when I started running again for a month so went to the doctor who performed blood tests and told me that I have vitamin D deficiency. so I sat under the sun 1 month 1 hour every day and took the medicines that he gave me and started cycling for a week but still the shin splints still developed. They got so bad that i couldn’t sleep due to pain. I want to lose weight and I have the motivation to do it again, but my feet doesn’t obey me and I am depressed can somebody please help me.
I hear people saying to put ice on my legs. I am wondering if taking hot baths would not help more and relax the muscles more?

Where do you get one of these noodles from? It looks like a pool noodle but I’m sure that’s not it…
Its weird, like two days ago. I was on the track doing 300’s and 250’s at moderate speed. Then yesterday, I couldn’t even run without some agonizing pain around my shins. I am flexible though, like I can do the splits and I use a roller as well. Does ice pack work; even if you’re not injured?
Thanks! The roller on the shins fixed my pain almost instantly!
i got a onewheel and im 48 and it make all that hurt so bad….thanks im on the floor now…..my heros
He gorgeous and super sexy papi chulo!! haha just throwing that out there ❤
Aloha what do u think about compression gear, like legs and arm compression gear
I’ve put on a bit of weight recently and when I try to exercise I get severe shin splints, so I stop. Gonna give this a try.
I hate how coaches think shin splits are nothing and expect to not miss a day of practice. Once it starts you need to rest
Here are some REAL tips for you:
1.CHECK your VITAMIN D, then if low take vit D for at least 2 months before you can feel a difference
2.TRY BAREFOOT SHOES it will allow your body to move like it is supposed to.
3. what was said in the clip
Hey quick question? Should I stretch then strengthen? Or strengthen then stretch? How is the order?
I’ve just started running and my shins are hurting, how often do you reccomend doing this? And should I give running a rest until my shins are back to normal?
It has been 5 days since the last time did 10k. Shin splints still haunts me.

I can’t point my toes or sit in “hero” pose in yoga. (It hurts my knees as well as my feet). Whenever i point my toes I get cramps immediately in my foot. My feet don’t seem able to go backwards like trying to sit on my heels with my toes flat. What would I need to stretch to increase my flexibility and be able to do this pose.
i have anterior shin splints and the muscle is flexed all the time without me flexing it I’ve tried numerous stretches do you have any advice
Can you do a video on distance. Like the 1 mile. How to get a faster time, correct form, techniques etc..
My athletic trainer gave me shin compression, ibuprofen for inflammation, and some good stretches.

Use kinsiology tape.
Massage and ice post run.
Substitute sessions for riding/swimming.
I’m about to leave for Air Force basic training on August 14th…I’m definitely not a runner… I can go for about 5 mins before I need to walk. Not so much because of my cardio but because my legs get tired/weak. At basic training they want everyone to be able to run/jog for 26 mins straight… LOTS of people get shin splints… I’ve never got them because I haven’t been consistent with my running… I’m pretty worried in getting shin splints:( I have really comfortable custom running shoes with custom insoles I’m hoping that will really help… would you recommend me wearing compression socks to help to prevent shin splints? I’m not even sure if we can wear compression socks at basic… I’m really worried any advice would be great! I definitely will do these stretches!
I just started running daily and oh my good ness the first day was great I ran 3 miles no problem, 2nd day in I ran 3 miles but like 10 mins quicker, at that point I was at 35ish minutes for 3 miles, and then the 3rd day in I got this pain in my leg and now I can’t run as much and it takes me almost exactly one hour to do 3 miles. This makes me wanna quit but I can’t stop running cause I need it to pass my summer school PE class. And I can’t find anything that works I have one week left to go and I really hope this video helps me

My shins hurt so badly that walking every day hurts my shins but this happened last year it lasted for about 2-3 months of horrible pain. I’m over weight but not noticeable and I’m really tall. My shins hurt badly when I do pe and I do a cardio activity every Wednesday that is a intense work out at school. I cry barely walking up and down the stairs, what should I do because the pain hurts soooo much. And my parents think it’s a minor problem and I haven’t been to the doctor for anything. What should I do???
I don’t know if I have shin splints. Recently there has been swelling in my shins. No pain just swelling. So when I feel it I stop running. Also after running my shins look lumpy or bumpy. I’ve been running/jogging (speed 6 on treadmills) for years and have only recently experienced this. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey man, the bottom part of my knees have been hurting as well along with my shins. I went to the doc and she said to not run for a couple weeks. Last meet I tried running through it but the pain was unbearable. Is sitting out of track for another week the only way this will heal?

Hey man! Informative video, thanks! I classify myself as a terrible runner, and I jut started running again. Came across your video looking for stretches. At any rate, question on the insoles: do you remove the manufactures insoles? Or put the superfeet ones right over the originals?

Thank you for these videos! I seem to get shin splints and/or plantar fascitis every Spring now that I’m in my mid-thirties, I guess partly because I suddenly get more active after being dormant all Winter.
Thanks so much. The stretches are great. Loving the socks as well.
Yea I have had them for about 3 months now. We have track (sprinting) everyday of the week so that doesn’t help and I’m always just limping back to the start line and it’s kind of awkward. It hurts like a bitch. Spring break was a good resting time but I still have them a little
yo Jaret, in the holidays I started running 2 1.5km runs on the sidewalk/footpath at night every day, and I got shin splints within the first 2-3 weeks of doing that, I didn’t know how hard it is to fix shin splints, and now I’ve got them. I stopped running altogether because every time I ran I got them almost instantly again (they never really went away even though I wasn’t running, so I started cycling every day hoping that I could still keep fit but rest my shins. Now I’m training 2 2hr sessions a week for indoor soccer, which is a lot of quick stop starting which puts a lot of pressure on my shins, I’m going away to a tournament in 3 weeks or so, is it wise for me to stop training altogether and hope that they heal? The pain is directly on my shin bone and sometimes after training, i can feel my shin bones kind of pulsate in pain, they are like a constant bruise on my shin bones. Please Help
It’s a pool noodle that’s cut short. I dug through the comments so you don’t have to.
I tried the shin stretches before squats today and it helped a lot! Normaly I would just stretch my calves the opposite way you showed but It never helped. I’ll have to try out foam rolling too. Thanks!

Man i have shin splints so bad and this video actually clarified it.. That is the pain im feeling! I thought i had cancer! jk
Sleep is the most important factor in avoiding injuries. All repair to your body is done while sleeping/resting.
1. Shoesinsoles, new
2. Terrainsoft, no concrete, grass good
3. Warm-up before hand, walk and stretch especially calves
4. If pain stop and stretch/walk
5. Gait, shorter and lower when running
Hey its Bob and Brad, the most famous physical therapists on the internet!
I have never seen a man sit on his balls to stretch out his legs. Jk. Ty B and B, I’ve not seen that rolling gizmo before. Going to look into it.
I ran three days in a row and these stretches helped my calf pain instantly ☺️ thanks guys!
as a self proclaimed shin-splint expert (;D), or medial tibial stress syndrome, this is one of the most annoying injuries you can possibly get. It will ruin your fucking day, because the only treatment is rest (as in, not doing anything that will put pressure on the damn thing)…
I’ve had it a couple of times (so I’ve done a lot of things wrong lol), but the last two years ive been shin-splint free… the most important thing is giving your muscle tissue around your shins rest: Warm up on grass, wear shoes with major cushioning (i use Asics cumulus 18’s), less spikes usaged, change your running style, etc… most of these things you touched on already.
And if you do get it, rest for 2-3 months, ice it a lot!, and don’t get back to running to quickly, because just because you don’t feel it anymore, does not mean it’s gone.
(I believe the most common side is the inside of the shin though…because of overpronation)
This one doctor says the best shoes to wear is the ones with the individual toes. Because it allows your foot to stretch and adjust naturally. Also, it doesn’t matter what type of surface you run on because shin splints happen when your arch over stretches on impact, which stretches out some ligaments or tendons that are in your lower leg. And the way to prevent them from over stretching is by strengthening your muscles and stuff in your foot and calf. Arch support insoles are the worst because it weakens your foot. Like a crutch, if you use crutches every time you walk it’s going to make your legs weak.
Is it normal that I feel pain during the soleus stretch right in the spot where my shin splints are?
I walk/ run on the treadmill at the Y. was closed so I walked 3 1/2 miles on road and the pain!! Is this normal.? Awesome video guys!!

i recently stated boot camp (exercising) 3 1/2 wks ago for the main purpose of becoming fit, tone and stronger while still maintaining my curves. however whenever I have to jog or run, my foot hurts in the same area you were showing in the vid, when I ask my PT if it is normal he said yes, if you are not use to walking, jogging or running often. Is this true? I do sit a lot during the day.

Thanks for the videos will try the stretches. I generally play football (soccer to americans) on indoor sports halls and outdoor on artifical turf pitches. Hopefully the stretches help if not I will stop playing on the harder indoor surfaces. Just one question is hot or cold bathing recommended?
Thanks so much. I turn to your videos when I have a problem. When I put my foot on a chair and try to stretch my right leg, I’m getting a lot of pain at the right side of my shin, around knee and right side of thigh. I have recently had a pneumonia vaccine and an hour and half later my right leg was muscle bound. Haven’t been able to sleep without pain killers since March 26th. During day, I can get around but at night the pain in my shin, ankle and sometimes it goes high is excruciating. I was tangoing March 20th and felt a pain in my lower right back (as I often do and go to my chiropractor and get fixed). This time it was a feeling of nerve and muscle pain. Not a shooting pain like sciatica. Exray report is things a bit out of wack down there. So it’s not a shin splint…anyway, I’m trying to stretch the leg and hip to release anything that might be crunched.
could it be that the bone has to be stronger when you run? does it get stronger over time? I think I read online that the bone will bend a little when you run so has to get stronger before shin splints stop but there can still be other things that causes shin splints when you first start. do you know anything about that?

How long should you wait to run again if you have shin splints? It’s mainly my left shin but I’ll eventually get pain in my right maybe after 1-2 miles. I’m just realizing my love for running and I’d hate to not be able to do it. I know to rest and not overdo it as well. I’ve been working out for 15 years but I’d love to incorporate running into my routine a lot more.
Great video, having problems rn with shin splints. Love your channel, keep it up

i also have very bad shin splints now it”s second time i am facing it and now i take decision to change my shoes i think its my shoes which is cause of this shin pain now i will see what happen next after changing shoes.
I’ve always had this sort of pain before, but once I started running with a weighted vest it got like 6x worst. Now it’s just horrible, I have to stretch before and after, put ice on my legs, and rest 1 day in between exercises (plus no more weighted vest). When the pain started, I had to rest with ice packs for two weeks. It SUCKS, it’s like I’m starting from scratch but with bone pain instead of muscle pain.
If you get a stress fracture from shin splints how long does it take to recover?
Would these stretches and strengthening moves aid the gastrocnemius and peroneal type strain?
Do you have strengthening and prevention exercises for posterior shin splints?

Good video. I really like that ABCs thing to strengthen your shin splints. Also, today I was running. And my shins started killing me! I was not out of breath. Not even close. But I stopped to prevent my shins from dying
i’m tired of stretching every little thing that hurts. i don’t have enough time.
Haven’t heard many people talk about this issue. I use the hamstring machine to do “shin splint workouts” at about 5# or so. Thanks for the share.
Doing a standing calf stretch was was hurt me to begin with. So no thanks on this one
In addition, prevention exercises are the worst things to do when an athlete is trying to treat shin splints. For treatment, rest is key, but icing the pain and using compressions help as well. Majority of “shin splints” are tibialis anterior stress syndrome. The tibialis anterior muscle runs from your shins, down to your feet. Depending on the cause of injury, sometimes massing that muscle can be very beneficial (I recommend massaging your feet). Also, just being barefoot on different surfaces can really help because it lets your feet work properly. Sometimes, doing prescriptive exercises can be beneficial as well.
Since it’s so hard to diagnosis the cause of the injury, rest is most important when recovering. But like Jaret said in the video, best way to treat it is to prevent it.
As I’m rolling on my shin with shin splints is it suppose to hurt cuz it hurts when I roll on it
Im day 2 back into running and if I do it tomorrow I’m going to have full on shin splints probably have to do it every other day so I get a day to repair
I think I have enough experience with shins splints to suggest a treatment.
If you got them you just need to rest for few months (4 to 6) just don’t run during this period, swim or watch low impact cardio videos and do them to get your cardio.
When you get back don’t start jogging or running right away, start walking for a distance that is way shorter than your usual and then very gradually increase speed and distance, this is very important make it very gradual, let it take more than a year.
another important point is to have enough rest between every walking (jogging) session, start with like one and half a week (2 in 3 weeks) gradually move to two and then 3 a week. Personally after 2 years and a half of ding this I go jogging 3 times a week.
of course before you start jogging again you need to apply the correct techniques such as keeping your feet close to the ground in order to land softly and to land on the heels, warm up by doing joint rotation (ankle rotation & knee rotation) Not stretching, to wear a shoes with thick cushion, wear compression socks for some of your sessions
a great exercise to do that is simpler than the the exercises provided here which I think are great is to just sit on a chair your feet are on the ground then raise your toes to the highest point you can (with your heels on the ground) and put them back on the ground do it repeatedly. 2 minutes of this twice a week would be great.
I understand this might not work for everybody, but it worked for me, I’ve had shins splints three times in the past 8 years, the first two recovery attempts failed but this time it’s a success (at least so far)
I’m a gymnast and I’m currently dealing with shin splints and it hurts so bad!

guys you should try ice baths after your runs. you don’t need to do it with ice you can just fill up your bath tub with the coldest water possible and sit in it for 15 minutes. it does wonders!

I am 125lbs and 5’11 and still get horrible shin splints. I don’t wear spikes for workouts and I usually buy multiples of the same shoe for running. Is there any other reason that you might get shin splints?
Been doing these exercises to help me with my Achilles tendon surgery recovery. It helped me immensely! Finally I dont have or feel tightness like I used to.
Thank you Dr. Jo for sharing it and showing it.

Thank you so much! You really help me with a lot on this channel. I do have one question, what should I do for my shin splints before a meet? I run the 100m and 200m.
Is this one for anterior only or posterior also, PLZ reply mam
You do not need to replace your shoes every 6 months. That is ludicrous.
I have rest for about a month and completed the strengthening exercise for about 2 weeks. I have started with a light jog and today was my 5th day. At times I have twitching paining but not really painful like before. Do you think I should continue jogging or should I take a break and continue with strengthening exercises. Please advise.
“What are shin splints?.. I have no idea.” Solid credibility building statement in the intro.
Can you get shin splints around the fibula area? That’s where my pain is in my left leg
Could you talk about hamstring injuries and how to recover from them…I currently tore my hamstring 2 weeks ago and I iced it and rested but I want to know what I can do to get back on the track and what I can do to prevent this from happening again thanks

When doing the sitting on the feet stretch my left foot has less flexibility and I get pain near the Achilles, would shin splints cause Achilles pain?
Thank you so much! I had a stress fracture 6 weeks ago and will do these to prevent another injury
Mam can you please tell me about the water which we should use after practice to pour our leg for the people who suffer from shin splints. The water should be hot or cold
I love your videos Dr Jo. I’m recovering from a motorcycle accident where my tibia and fibula were severely broken. A rod was inserted in my tibia and now I’m working on rehabilitating from drop foot. I’ve been in a wheelchair for 15 months and I’m excited to start walking with help from You and PT.

Stop heel strikes; start ball strikes. No splints. Use five fingers.
Thanks for the video!
If a pt does not have the access to the massage track, two lax balls bound by athletic tape work well too.
anyone else notice the random ass dog at the beginning of the vid?
Hey Jaret, what is your opinion on calf sleeves for shin splints?
I wish u would of made this last season when i had them nice video tho
Thank you for the video. Is it best to stretch before exercises, after, or both?
can I do strength training if I am an middel distance runner
Shin splints got me out of doing the mile run a few times in high school.
“Prevention methods studied were shock-absorbent insoles, foam heel pads, Achilles tendon stretching, footwear, and graduated running programs. No statistically significant results were noted for any of the prevention methods. Stretching of the lower leg musculature has been consistently proven to not prevent MTSS.”
How can I train for track in the winter where it is about -10 degrees?
LOL, Love your living room. Great stretch for people at home to do for shin splints. I like roller, it seems more comfortable than a typical hard foam roller.
The video is very helpful, but along with shin splints I feel a light pain on the knee too.. so do you have any video that can help me?
Experience daily discomfort and pain from tibia muscles. I practice 5hours golf 6 days a week….I walk a lot. Only left leg….outside muscle….not like shins…..that seems inside. Why left leg only suffer is because golfswing is all about weight shift….from right leg to left. So left leg endure 50% more tension and stress.
Ice baths always help with recovery i find, if you need to keep on performing the next day using ice baths after work outs will help with speeding up recovery and repair of muscles not so sure about the shin splints on the bone though. Usually works out for me most of the time. Usually jump in the bath full of water with about 10kg of ice for 20 minutes.
How do you know what kind of shoe is the best for that? I run on sidewalk/roads and the pain is crazy. I cant run for days in a row, I can only run one or two days and then I need to take a break and it’s super discouraging.
This video helped a lot! My shin splint on my posterior side of my left tibia started when I was getting in shape for track over the winter. A week before season started, it got so bad I stopped running. 3 days of track training and I literally can’t stand the pain anymore and my trainer said it might have turned into a stress fracture. Currently resting it and taking it easy on my workouts, got more appropriate shoes, and got appropriate insoles. I just want to ask for your suggestion on my weight, because you mentioned it was a big factor. I’m 5’10, a lean 180lbs. What can I do to help with that aspect(since I’m on the heavier side) because I play football too and I can’t lose weight? Thanks!

From what you described, my shin splints seem to occur in a different region. My shin splints are located at the inner side of my shins and the pain occurs behind the shin bone. When it gets really bad it runs down to the inner ankle bone all the way up to the inner knee. Are my shin splints common for runners?
OMG I swear You read minds. I have a very iportant meet mee in Arizona Next week and I am Rest8ng due to my Shin Plints This is Great peep the shirt I am wearing in my profile pic I like the ABC’, For sure I am going to try
When I’m running for track or cross, I have milk before I go to bed and that seems to eliminate shin splints for me.
