Even we Americans find Doctor Greger’s sloppy, slurred speech hard to understand. Could you yourself summarize his insights in English?
Would this potato diet be ideal for a diabetic, or should they substitute the white potatoes with yams?
Just eat the white potatoes with lots of veggies and fruits you will be ok lol let’s not make it complicated ppl.I eat mainly yellow potatoes and sweet and red.I mean the better the color the more the nutrients but white potatoes ain’t never killed nobody Right DR MCDOUGAL lol shout out to you and dr greggor
Potatoes are my favorite vegetable i would only trade it for corn
I love potatoes -with skin left on. Although plain? No way. I need the salt and pepper, butter, sour cream or ranch. cheese of course and sometimes other things. So when I add those things does that discount what this guy is even talking about?
They are as healthy as sugar because starch is made from sugar, your body breaks down starch into sugar. There are about the same amount of sugar molecules in one gram of starch as one gram of sugar. It’s as if he is saying a tonne of bricks is heavier than a tonne of feathers. Your body can produce any glucose if required from the proteins you eat. Carbs are not required. Most Europeans didn’t eat potatoes until the Spanish came back from South America in the early 15th century. We have only consumed them for about 500 years!
Did the potato farmer lose 21 pounds or 35? I learned from many other sources that the former number is the correct one.
MISSED OPPORTUNITY:
This was a prime opportunity to talk about the HUGE difference between a freshly cooked potato (very high glycemic) and a RS or resistant starch-rich Potato.
When a potato is cooked, then cooled for 24 hrs or more (and it can even be reheated up to 140d) is becomes rich in a special kind of starch that feeds your good gut microbes. Especially the ones that make very healthy anti-inflammatory SCFAs.
ALSO potatoes can have up to 30 pesticides, fungicides etc. on/in them. Buy organic ones to be sure. You can even grow them in a container garden on your porch.
sweet potatoes are so much healthier but so much more expensive though
Sometimes you just got to quit chasing rainbows and eat that white potato.
My grandfather had a 1000 acres of potatoes in the UK. Lived to be 90, smoked a pipe, walked a good bit, but potatoes were on every meal. No body was fat. But we were eating potatoes for 400 years, so we had no reactions to deadly nightshade plants. Lots of people, all Madagascans, and many others are allergic to deadly nightshade plants. Potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants. A DN free diet cures Hidradenitis suppurativa within a couple of weeks. Rhumatoid diseases also. So if you have any of these, think twice before going on an all potato diet.
SO it’s not mashed potatoes it’s the butter that you add to them? What about instant potatoes?
40 percent of daily sooo if we eat and more vegeties we muuuust consume no more than 1 potatoe day???????
I don’t understand, if it’s not the high carb starches, then why r ppl so obese in this country?
Forgot to mention that some types are higher in fiber (the Russetts are low in fiber).
is it bad if i eat 2 baked potatoes a day?
i put some olive oil on top of them and some black pepper then bake them for about 50 minutes
If people can lose weight eating potatoes, how many are we talking about?
To the narrator Forget potatoes. Just tell me what u eat. I’ll have what u r having 😉
i eat potato every day i just bake them and add a little salt, the only time it’s unhealthy is when its fried with unnecessary fats
As a matter of fact I was just going to finish the few white potatoes I have and be done with them.
This is why many go back to eating animal parts and their liquids. Back or steam your 5 pound bags of yellow potatoes. We need calories to sustain
I really respect your knowledge and thank you for sharing it with us! Excellent channel! ✅
Every glycemic index study I have seen lists white potatoes as way more glycemic even than white bread, which is terrible for you. You should avoid white potatoes like the plague, as with any other simple carb, if you want to be healthy.
Half of Europe survived in 17th 18th and 19th century on potatoes..still poor in India China and world over get their nutrition from these root vegetables
good job, but seems to only address the brown russet potato. so need to explore for the other varieties. thank you
I’ve been 100% carnivore.. I eat only beef, butter and eggs. I would never eat fruits and veggies again. Vegan diet kills, Meat heals.
Does he ever address spiking glucose i.e. potatoes spike blood sugar which is not good for you. Even cooked/cooled potatoes still do. Thanks.
Eat them and then test your blood sugar an hour later, you’ll probably not eat them again.
Is there an ideal pairing with a legume or? such that the combination of the protein in potatoes creates a complete protein the way beans and rice do?
I just love this woman’s voice!!!!!!! Her accent and tone of voice is just so calming. She could tell me that my house was burned down and it wouldn’t bother me because I’d be too busy enjoying listening to her voice
We only eat white potatoes one way. Washed cubed Baked lightly and then sauteed with onion to make home fries, skins on with black pepper and fresh snipped chives yummy so yummy
John McDougall stated that if you could get someone to eat white potatoes if they wont eat res then do it. Same with white rice. Pick your battles and work with people. Start with white and theyll evolve to brown and red.
My dad always told me growing up that if I wanted to be strong, I’d have to eat A LOT of potatoes. Bodybuilders eat them for carbs and they play a role in building muscle, so he’s at least half right!
I tried this JUST ONCE.
I ate 1/4-cup of cold boiled red potatoes, then tested my blood glucose level at a half hour, one hour and two hours and EACH time my blood glucose level was THROUGH THE ROOF!
I eat white potatoes at least a couple times a week and usually in some kind of soup. I love them and don’t think they are the Least bit harmful
What about all the cases where people have lived on nothing but white potatoes for months, or even a whole year including endurance athletes! and afterwards their blood work, BP and other health parameters were perfect? It’s not the ‘taters, it’s the butter, cheese, sour cream and gravy people put on them. Saute is some veggies in water and put those on your potato. I like onions, peppers, corn, chopped tomatoes and black (or other) beans, seasoned with turmeric, black pepper, chili powder and garlic powder. Healthy and delicious!
i find boiled potatoes less satiating than barley bites with 13% fiber, if my stomach has problems and i want to take some carb calories they can be gentle to my stomach!
This video has confused me. He doesn’t seem to have give us any clear cut direction. Do I continue to eat potato or do I cut it out?
A nice baked potatoe, with a big dollop of sour cream, another of butter, salt, pepper, chives, bacon. Sooooo tasty. Nothing but that for two weeks? Excellent!
This ignores other studies in which people have consumed mainly or exclusively potato’s for a steady length of time (I believe one year) and achieved huge weight losses.
Prepared properly, that is baked with the skin on and topped with a healthy dressing/garnish, white potatoes should be acceptable for WFPB eaters. After all, it is a whole plant food.
Please talk a bit faster and a little less clear, because we can still hear and make out some of your words.
My joint pains and body stuffiness increase when I eat potatoes. So how does one explain that? I strongly feel there is no “one size fits all” when it come to diet for humans. I wish there was. I would love to see what answer does Mr. McDougal have to my query.
Without the potato, half the population of Europe would not exist.
Iam on diet…… is boiled potato is having less calories…? Shall i stop eating potato caries…
One can not live on kale only… . Let‘s mix & and enjoy those healthy tubers!
What a foolish man.
The human body needs about 1 g of protein per kilo of body weight to main the muscles healthy.
Potatoes contain about 2% of protein and people cant eat >3 kilos of spuds every day to get enough protein.
People in poor countries like Peru eat a lot of spuds. They work hard and eat relatively little. Thats why they are skinny and not because of the potato diet.
THUMBS DOWN
Confusing video. I don’t care if sweet potatoes are healthier, i just want to know if white potatoes are safe to eat sometimes. White potatoes without added extras, so like just boiled spuds or baby potatoes without added oil or butter or salt.
My friend: i ugly like a potato
Me:no you dont
My friend: really?
Me:potato is beautiful, potato is healty for human, potato can make many food.
As a T2 diabetic potato’s will kill you eventually this is after kidney disease you go blind and start amputating your limbs I love potatoes mash baked fried you name it but they don’t love me again they’re probably fine for a healthy person but for a type two diabetic they are poison even in small amounts they just have way too many carbs for the amount of micronutrients they have, again the keyword here being healthy healthy people without diabetes can eat this food, diabetics cannot
Wouldn’t care if they were unhealthy, I love potato. Carbs are life!
Okay but where are you getting all of your vitamins mineralsand other things that are absolute necessity for the body like vitamin c from if all you’re eating is potatoes. Can you survive on potatoes, yes. Should you eat only potatoes, no.
Today’s potatoes are poison GMO potatoes. They are also the number 1 highest pesticide carrying food. They are saturated in Roundup pesticide and even kill all your stomachs good bacteria. The weight you lose is nothing more than your body starving. Wise up. Don’t believe everything you watch in some youtube video.
I don’t like sweet potatoes. I normally bake my white potato and have it with some steamed corn, peas, and broccoli with a little salt, pepper, and a little bit of vegan butter.
I love white potatoes, but rarely eat them as per Dr. Greger’s advice.
what he is saying is true verifed in OAHSPE prophets of jehovih lived a diet of rice nuts and fruits such as chine
I like them quartered then steamed along with other vegetables
What can we do when potatoes. Or all vegetables sit in warehouses for months before we get to buy it. o
i feel like he was saying that its bad, but then he said its bad because of this study that didn’t really take all aspects into consideration. but with that said, the food is still bad? i don’t get it. i don’t like this video at all. its like, and loose study that wasn’t vary well followed. can we see a study of people eating all the different types of potatoes and seeing that they did way worse then eating the othe rotatoes? cuz i don’t like sweet, or brown ones. these ones are good, and i don’t fry them. i boil them, then eat them whole with beans, or broc, or salsa, or sometimes straight with some garlic salt.
This is plain stupidity. If you are a type 2 diabetic, all potato-diet will surely trigger blood sugar spikes. Verify this using a glucose device one hour after meal.
Just eat a dam potato, any type you like….!
Whole plant based vegan foods on Instagram = mikewakethefoodup
lmao “everytime you eat this food you could be eating something healthier” aka how to cause eating disorders.. by that logic we might aswel only eat whatever food is the healthiest which is what i wonder.. Dr Greger and Dr Fuhrman have no mercy i swear
You did not talk about the point that I am most concerned. I always assume that sweet/yum potatoes are considered much healthier because they contain more fibers. Compared with them, regular potatoes are less healthy because of less amount of fibers and lift the blood sugar level faster. Is this right or wrong? I usually do not eat skin of potatoes as most of other people.
Does Dr McDougall state in any of his videos that potatoes are okay for diabetics? I see in the glycemic index that baked potatoes are at about 85 on the index while boiled potatoes have an index of 50. Mashed potatoes are also at 85. Seems like it make be the texture/softness of the potatoes after cooking that effects the rate. (Softer means it gets into you system quicker and causes a rush of insulin) Just curious as to what his take is on potatoes and diabetics overall.
I love the idea of the diet but the way Doc says “Pataytahs” drives me nuts
The perfect food with the highest glycemic index of anything other than pure sugar….
Now I am very poor so I get most of my calories from rice and potatoes as well as beans and oatmeal. I do eat plenty of greens and fruits towards the beginning of the month, but later it’s the starches and such. I live on disability and it sucks. I also do not put any extras on my potatoes. I bake them and I only have a little salt with lots of onion powder and garlic powder on them. I never fry anything, and I stay away from oils and fake butter and stuff like that.
BECAUSE AMERICAN dont eat rice everyday…. everything that the US export is said to be healthy. EAT A POUND OF MSG a day and you’ll see a doctor till you are 97.
Potatoes are good if prepared properly.
Cooked with skin on and not loaded with crap.
I like them curried, skin on.
The white potato is an almost perfect food. You could almost live on white potatoes exclusively. How do we know this? because people have lived on potatoes, not only in the past but more recently in scientific studies. You would need to add a green like broccoli and a little fruit for a complete diet over the very long term. I have lived on a soup made with Yukon Gold potatoes and corn for 2 years straight. I also ate fruit. I lost weight, got lean, gained muscle through moderate excercise and after 20 months, had a full physical and I was healthier after 20 months of eating like this than I ever was when I was younger. I continued for 4 more months at which point I added other veggies. Forget Greger, he is wrong more often than right….. follow and learn from Dr. John McDougall. Dr. McDougall has been saving people with his McDougall eating style for about 50 years. The man is a giant in the field. The difference between Dr. Mcdougall and Greger is that Greger gets his information from other people’s studies……. Dr. McDougall on the other hand has about 50 years of DIRECT clinical experience, first hand experience with his own patients PLUS the hundreds of thousands that he has helped through his website and books. Eat white potatoes (follow the FREE recipes available on the web which Dr. McDougall provides) you will live longer and better lives.
I grew up basically on Starches. We were not wealthy & we rarely had animal protein… except for Bacon… which I loved…still do… but Corn has always been my Fave Starch & I stopped eating Starches cause of the “carbs” are BAD. & Paleo this & Keto that… I got whip lash! I was browsing YouTube & ran into a video on Resistant Starches… which I had run into 4 orb5 years ago but didn’t pursue it. BUT HERE & NOW, I was led toner McDougal & I feel like a kid in a candy store… and he doesn’t Nix Salt & Sugar!!
I am feeling such changes in my mood, my cravings feeling a lot better. I hope the Joint benefits kick in Sooner rather than later!
I am reading Dr McDougalls book, The Starch Solution & It is SO LIBERATING! TY,
DOC!
Interestingly, those results on chilled potatoes are similar to those of chilled pasta: chilled (and then re-heated) pasta is better for you than freshly-cooked pasta. Strange how starches change after being chilled, isn’t it?
Good evening I have a question, if you have leaky gut can you eat Patato. Is it not night shade!!!?
White potatoes prepared without added fats or junk are a whole, plant food and healthy with tons of vitamins, minerals, fiber, resistant startch and other goodies. White potatoes have sustained entire populations, from pre-columbian Incans to the modern Irish. Look up the potato hack or potato diet and you’ll see that people lose weight and improve health by eating a diet exclusively composed of white potatoes for a few days or weeks at a time. Dr. Greger is wrong here and his argument that sweet potatoes are healthier is a poor one as we can almost always make this argument and you can’t let perfection get in the way. For many people trying a whole foods, plant based diet, potatoes are a familiar comfort food that they have eaten their entire lives and can continue to eat if you tell them not to eat potatoes, you are unnecessarily making the transition from SAD diet to WFPB diet unnecessarily more difficult than it has to be.
I love potatoes when they are thickly sliced and deep fried in peanut oil. Aka potato chips kettle style.
Dont let the vegans fool you ->
”The diet consisted of potatoes, supplemented with
butter or pork fat with the addition of a few fruits (apples and pears); tea
or black coffee and sugar were also occasionally taken. The amount of fat
consumed was not accurately estimated, it varied from 120-150 g. daily.”
You cannot live without the fat soluble vitamins A,D,E,K.
In the west white potatoes are everywhere. Growing up we had them at every meal. Even today I always have white potato in my dinner.
I eat white potatoes and I eat the skin too. They’re a good source of iodine and many other minerals and vitamins. They really can’t be compared to sweet potatoes, which are healthy in other ways but taste nothing like white potatoes. I eat mine with very healthy ketchup I make myself with no sugar and no salt.
Also, I often eat iceberg lettuce because it has a texture that sickening arugula can’t begin to approach. It is filling and very low calorie.
Here they are discussing potatoes good or bad, meanwhile i am eating potatoes and onions because i am broke
He doesn’t seem to have a straight forward answer as to why he listed white potatoes as yellow/red light foods…
saying “you could replace white with sweet… this makes white potatoes yellow/red light because sweet potatoes are healthier” doesn’t really make sense…
because by that logic you could list broccoli as yellow/red light simply because eating broccoli is a lost opportunity to eat broccoli sprouts…
I wanted to hear him address whether they’re considered harmless or harmful…
He made a video years ago listing baked white potatoes as a red light food… yet I recently heard him in a Q&A saying white potatoes are healthful because they’re a whole plant food and he didn’t seem to recall his previous videos stating that they’re harmful…
As this is plant-based science “London”, why are no British doctors featured?
I’d like to see a video about nutrient restriction and I don’t mean “fasting”. The idea that foods with fewer nutrients are ultimately more healthful. There’s a potential fallacy that assumes that more nutrients = better. Like if you eat 2,000 calories of broccoli a day you run the risk of being poisoned by Thallium. So foods such as potatoes, white rice etc. potentially save you if eaten for a certain amount of time.
Potatoes are the only food that helps me lose weight and not overeat.
I would boil or steam them to reduce the acrylamide content. I think if u plan on roasting them, use oregano to reduce the production of acrylamides.
Fixed my chronic constipation and doesn’t give me carb coma during the day and give me lots of energy for cardio so it is my go to for carbs. Note: I am generally Paleo low carb so I choose my carbs depending on which I can tolerate.
If you limit yourself to all you can eat potatoes and veggies you simply can not over eat or gain weight, it’s really fabulous
Most talk rubbish. Have you ever eaten a raw potato? You cook it. Does vit C gets degraded with cooking? Does cooked potato contain any vit C?
Even though ppl would say potatoes are bad n make you put on weight….I never listened to them
I’m on day 5 out two weeks. It’s going well. I want to use as stepping stone to a mostly plant based. I have to take supplements bcz I have osteoporosis. Once I go plant based, i want to figure out a way to get calcium mostly from foods that will build back my bone density. I know i can’t possibly eat enough steamed greens in s day and those raw greens don’t absorb well. Im sure I need to incorporate fortified plant milks. Any other tips? I’d love to hear from anyone who can advise me with their experience building back their bone density on plant based. I take calcium, vit d, vit k2 is plus multi vitamin.
I buy a bag of Russet potatoes every 12th bag or so eat as large a variety as you can. Skip the oil. ❤
I started eating baked potatoes every day recently. So good and cheap. Bought a 5lb bag for $2.
Can you make a video about food combinations? Because I supposed to gain weight, but it’s pretty hard If you have to be aware of the food combinations and are sensitive to gluten and other things..
So how are we cooking the potatoes baked, steam or boiled and do we eat the skin?
Trying to lower bp
If potatoes have a high glycemic index does that not make them unhealthy?
Home made home fries (with skin) in garlic butter with onions and capsicum…so good I don’t care if they’re fattening. I don’t eat them very often. I love kumara (NZ sweet potato). Also like a few in my homemade spicy chicken soup. Most of the time I’m on a Keto diet.
I didn’t even have to watch the whole video to know potatoes are completely good for you, vegetable grown from the earth. Common sense. Eat as much as you want. People have been doing potato only diets eating as much as you want and these people are losing 100s of pound of fat and their blood works are looking amazing, dropped blood pressure and blood sugars are perfect.eat potatoes all day.
Garbage. Throughout history the vast majority of people got their calories from. Flesh and fat!
But watch out for the skin of the potato glycoalkaloids are poisons.
What are your thoughts on Dr. Gundry’s comments on potatoes and other lectins?
I boil potatoes in pork broth (which I get from boiling pork belly to tenderise it). Few things are tastier, and yes, I do keep the skin on. Talking about foods that are as tasty with so little effort, only sweet potato and beef (boiled with a dash of pepper, salt and cinnamon) trump potatoes for me.
yup, I’m eating potatoes while watching this! boiled and mashed with the water from the boiled potatoes and a wee bit of salt. yeah, I love salt!
Thanks for such a great video. I’d like to know your opinion on french fries made out a Air Fryer. Many thx
I belive in this but wont white starchy food feed candida overgrowth
What about boiled or in the oven? Does it make any difference?
Thank you for sharing this video on starch.base diet
Everyday when I get home
First thing I do is chop up a
Russet potato and fry it in butter
Add chopped onions
Then I make a two egg sandwich
With Ez 4:9 bread and sharp cheddar
Sliced onions.
Started a potato diet 4 days ago and it’s so satisfying! Only downside is serious gas/Bloat… gym workouts are on point!!
Where are the Keto and low carbers at? With all there talk that carbs cause diabetes
The bad scores in studies are caused by white potato junk foods. Prepared without oil as part of healthy wfpb, white potatoe is a good thing. Dr Greger makes a physician style mistake here. Looking too isolated at bad studies. I like this guy and his work
He doesn’t have to be always correct. He’s a human after all.
For 4weeks I have been on a potato and veggie diet. I love it and I have lost weight and inches. I am not tired of it at all❤️
When he says you should eat potatoes because humans did it in all verifiable history. Shouldn’t you go a little further back and see what our ancestors ate, and what I closest living relative, the bonobos, eat? They eat and ate mainly fruits, leafy greens when less fruit is available.
I only eat Potatoes on my soup, Air Fried French Fries, Baked, but watching this right now I thought about N.Y French Fries…they are so delicious…
Lool so Christmas thanksgiving and a nice night out with the kids or ya partner.. U eat a potato…
Nice to not be hungry all the time. Putting starches, including potatoes as the primary food has helped me stop craving food. I never thought I’d be able to say that. I’m a very sick, lifetime food addicted woman. Healthier than ever and glad to be 80, I’ll take it.
Fucking so much contradictions amongst food choices. It’s better to eat everything and enjoy it and then die. Huh
Potatoes are good
Potatoes are good
Potatoes are good
Potatoes are good
Potatoes are good
I swear to gosh Potatoes are good
I’m eating only potatoes since 25 years.. And trust me I only eat potatoes with rice or roti.. That’s all I’m eating since I was a kid.. People get very surprised to see me eating only potatoes all the time and nothing else but I am addicted to it.. And I don’t want to eat anything else And I loveee potatoes..
We only occasionally put them in our home made veggie soup along with lots of nutrient dense veggies, herbs and spices.
Omg this guy is a charlatan. Potatoes are pure fucking sugar.
I could go on a diet of all chocolate chip cookies for a month, and lose weight. It’s NOT. FUCKING. HEALTHY.
McDougall is doubling down on his chronic idiocy.
I wonder how much vitamin C is in the potatoes after they’ve been heated, cooled, reheated, cooled, etc. Has anyone actually researched and tested this? Vitamin C is sensitive to heat, air, and water. Guarantee there is little to none of it in a cooked potato. Not only that, but you act as though fat is a bad thing, and it isn’t! Ever try living without it? You can’t.
Just ate potatoes day one this popped up in feed fucking googles watching
He’s full of shit! Starting to remind me of a typical pharma doctor!
Can people with lung related disease eat corn and potato especially when they are following drugless therapy?
Extremism. Perfectly healthy veggie. Sure, you need some other veggies with it, but it supplies lots of calories which are kind of the whole point. Same with iceburg lettuce, by itself it’s nothing, but it makes a good filler for the other somewhat bitter leafy vegetables that get added to a salad. Lighten up a little.
I love white potatoes. Dr. McDougall says they are wonderful so I’m going to keep eating them mashed with purple potatoes, veg and tempeh. Yum
I’m fine with most other starches like rice. But man, potatoes just mess me up for some reason. Inflamed joints, kidney pain, blood pressure goes up, insomnia, etc. It’s like eating steak again. I’ve been WFPB for 4 years, last 1 year I’ve been on McDougal’s starch solution. I’ve eaten white, yellow, red, purple skin, purple flesh from the Asian market, boiled, baked, soaked, cooled reheated, etc, but there’s no difference. They are like eating the grim reaper’s testicles for me. I’m sure the potatoes of today are much different than our ancestors.
Is such a diet conducive to good brain health? It is my understanding that humans require adequate amino acids, iron, B group vitamins, etc. Could children develop neurologically and physically eating like this?
Dr.Mcdougall is the most genius doctor of plant based community. He says potatoes are one of the best starches. It means we must eat potatoes freely. And he never talks about potato junk food at all.
Potato are not good for you this doctor was paid to say potatoes are good
There are literally hundreds of different kinds of potatoes. See this item in Wikipedia: List of potato cultivars
Due to the economics of agribusiness we have gotten used to the idea that there are only 4 or 5 types. Not so.
As usual very misleading advice. Use your common sense. Potatoes are good for you regardless of colour.. traffic light.BS..His book will be on the junk table in a couple of years…
White potatoes are wonderfully healthy. Just read Dr. McDougall on how they have and continue to save the world from hunger and malnutrition. Dr. Greger built his empire on “Super food theory,” based on super antioxidates and other miraculous substances, and he judges everything from that prism. But history shows that populations in all parts of the planet have thrived on potatoes. Now we know that too many “super foods”l as promoted by Greger and Joel Fuhrman can cause over nutrition. So lay off of the humble potato
What about the ketogenic science.what are we meant to believe
I always pack on weight when I eat potatoes (and I eat oil free)
Oxalates? Acidic? I like boiled potatoes and steamed broccoli. I dont eat corn because they dont digest and are all GMO
The North American ‘food guides’, aren’t going to be happy with this one.
Sometimes you just want a white potato, nothing wrong with it. This dr is mad annoying with his “red light” foods.
What about the Eskimos/Inuits surviving and thriving off a high animal fat and protein diet?
How can potatoes give u hypertension? There is really no saturated fat or cholesterol in them? I think he’s talking more about chips and french fries than just the potatoes themselves. Ofc if you cover potatoes in sour cream, butter, and gravy they are not gonna be healthy at all.
I started making a soup that is so easy and so cheap. Carrot potatoes celery tomato basil garlic simmer with a little water (not too much bc you want it to be thicker and you get a lot of juice from the tomatoes) puree about 1/4 of it and mix it back together. I add chopped spinach into the bowl after i reheat it. I make a big batch every sunday and it is my lunch everyday and has been for probably close to 6 months lol. I also have been eating a sweet potato at dinner just about every night too and i am far from tired of either. They are so good and so affordable and so satifying. Ive noticed that I just dont eat meat anymore. Was never my intention. I also have lost 10-15lbs but probably bc my portions are in control but i absolutely owe that to none other than potatoes! Yay potatoes! lol:)
So… how can you get all your vitamins, etc. just from potatoes?
I thought I knew what the “takeaway” was, but Gregor lost me at the end.
Imo, white potatoes, as long as they aren’t fried and topped with animal products, are healthy for you. Plenty of people do well with them and they’re a great source of calories and nutrition. I think if you’re carb-sensitive (of which I am), sweet potatoes are better..but also, ultimately, eating whole plant foods, regardless of the studies, is what’s important. Pitting whole plant foods against each other just seems absurd.
I hear that GMO potatoes are on their way to our food supply
I recently bought Dr Greger’s book How Not To Die. AWESOME!!!
Potatoes lack vitamin B12, calcium, and zinc — which are all essential to health.
Following a well-balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats, and lean protein is better for your health and promotes sustainable weight loss.
Vitamin C is destroyed by heat, light, & air. So any cooked potato has little, to no, Vit. C remaining in it.
Wow, you mean you lose weight when you go on a starvation diet? Amazing.
You know what’s tasty. Adding onion flakes to the mashed potatoes. And mushrooms too.
I lived on potatoes a lot when I first went vegan 10 years ago, probably the first 2 months really and did fine. I still like tofu and potatoes scrambled and baked in olive oil with dill and turmeric honestly, good stuff.
I live mostly on chocolate eclairs and vitamin pills. Plus a few hours of cardio daily.
God dammit bobby, here I am watching McPotato again, I love John McDougall. I’d really rename him to Tony Starch mauahahaha…sorry.
