Other forms of flax. Cereals, ready-to-eat and cooked. Breads.
Crackers. Energy bars. Muffin, bread, pancake and waffle mixes. Frozen waffles.
Omega-3 enriched eggs (hens are fed the flaxmeal) Snack items like chips, trail mixes and muesli. There are two main sources of omega-3 fatty acids: marine sources (fatty fish) provide EPA and DHA, and plant food sources (flax, walnuts, canola oil) provide ALA. These are also widely available and popular dietary supplements.
Whether plant sources or marine sources confer similar benefits is.Here are a few plant-based choices, and some recipes to add to your repertoire, to get you started. Seeds.
Flaxs eeds are probably the most well known plant-based source of omega-3. They are rich.Omega-3 Fatty acids (omega-3FAs) are found in seafoods, some plants, and some livestock rations.
Fish oils are the only concentrated source of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5 omega-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6 omega-3). The major omega-3FA in plants is alpha-linolenic acid (LNA; 18:3 omega-3).Omega-3 fatty acids (omega-3s) have a carbon–carbon double bond located three carbons from the methyl end of the chain. Omega-3s, sometimes referred to as “n-3s,” are present in certain foods such as flaxseed and fish, as well as dietary supplements such as fish oil.
Flaxseeds and walnuts are good sources of omega-3. However plant sources of omega-3 are not as potent as animal sources of omega-3, known as EPA and DHA.Chia seeds are a “phenomenal” source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Chia seeds are a “phenomenal” source of omega-3s. according to RunRepeat.com’s Rizzo. Nutritionist Brigham noted that one tablespoon of chia seeds provides 1.6 grams of ALA or 162 percent of the daily requirement.Flax seeds.
Flax seeds are one of the best vegetarian sources of omega-3. About 28gm of flax seeds are loaded with 633mg of omega-3. Flax seeds are known to be effective in lowering cholesterol. There are three forms of omega-3s. EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) come from marine-based sources, like salmon, mackerel, and trout.
ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) comes from plant-based sources such as walnuts, chia seed, flaxseed, and vegetable oils.Choose one source of omega-3 and omega-6 from each list to achieve a good intake of EFAs. Another good source of both types of fatty acids is dried beans such as kidney, haricot, mung and soya.
Regularly including these in your diet will ensure your EFA needs are met in a healthy balance. The overall ratio of omega-6:omega-3 fatty acids in the current North American diet ranges from 6:1 to approximately 10:1. Selected food sources of a-linolenic acid (ALA) are given in Table 2. Some of the common plant oils have significant levels of ALA e.g., 7% by weight in soybean oil, 10% in canola oil, and approximately 20% in hemp oil.Omega−3 fatty acids, also called Omega-3 oils, ω−3 fatty acids or n−3 fatty acids, are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) characterized by the presence of a double bond three atoms away from the terminal methyl group in their chemical structure.
They are widely distributed in nature, being important constituents of animal lipid metabolism, and they play an important role in the human.Omega-3 Fatty acids (omega-3FAs) are found in seafoods, some plants, and some livestock rations. Fish oils are the only concentrated source of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5 omega-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6 omega-3). The major omega-3FA in plants is alpha-linolenic acid (LNA; 18:3 omeg.
Fish is the best food source of omega-3 fatty acids, but several plants contain ALA. This is not as rich of a source of omega-3 fatty acids, but some studies show that ALA can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.Omega-3 fatty acids have been getting a lot of attention in the health and wellness world recently due to their anti-inflammatory benefits and protective properties against cancer and cardiovascular disease.
2 This is why it’s easier to find both plantand animal-sources in most grocery stores and natural food markets today.

lol. I’m bribed about Dr. Milton. I give him thumb up before even hearing him. He explain things so simple and… pure true to follow. He is very educational. He is in mission.
Please discuss how to acquire enough EPA and DHA through vegan sources. Your body can only convert ALA to longer chains at a rate of about 1%. Bioavailability is very small. How do you mitigate this?
I saw a video where a guy said peanuts are bad, because of the omega 3, all these conflicting informations is so confusing
Great information. Additional senior health resources can be found here as well: http://www.ngcare.com/resources/
I already eat most of these on a daily basis and I love it. So happy it’s yummy and good for me too. I love being vegan.
It’s funny how Vegans seems to be ignoring the diet human were perfectly happy eating until sometime in the 1960’s at the earliest.
I recommend putting whole flaxseed in a coffee grinder (be sure to clean the coffee out first) then adding it to pancake and waffle mixes or other baking needs and it will be hearty egg replacement.
none of those are digestible, the only the way to get dha is from fish, fish oil, animal brains and eyeball, some insects have it like snails. but the only way to get dha is from animal products. plants are not digestible
yay I’m one of those picky eaters that don’t like seafood lol
Thanks for this lovely video, informative as always <3
So this was basically an advertisement video with cherrypicked unscientific information? People believe and buy this BS in the name of compassion must be feeling like milked.
So organic cold pressed sunflower oil is to be avoided as well then? As well as other types of nuts and seeds? Or at least keep their intake to a minimum?
don’t forget to grind your flax and chia and keep cold. most of my omega 3’s come at breakfast. bowl 1 some blueberries strawberries walnuts 1 cup rolled oats 2 dates 1 spoon of date syrup 2 spoons ground flax almond or soy milk. bowl 2 some raspberries blackberries 1 spoon hemp hearts 3 almond 1 brazil nut. bowl 3 quinoa. bowl 4 lentil clover alfalfa radish broccoli kale sprouts. Combine with bowl 3 with a 1/4 teaspoon tumeric and a pinch of black pepper. I love breakfast!!!

This video is a joke. Fish is the best source of omega 3s and it’s 100 percent bioavailable. Fish are not mammals and they can convert the fat from plants to DHA. We Can’t do it efficiently. Only about 10 percent of plant based fats get converted to omega 3.
Nothing is pure, that’s why I pray and ask God to bless my food before I eat.
BUUUUUULSHIIIIT, our body only convert 1% of ALA to dha and epa, then we have to consume fish oil or fatty fishes, it’s a true fact
Very good video! I definitely learned alot in this video. Thanks!
What total horseshit. The conversation rate of ALA to DHA is miniscule. Just eat the damned fish.
Dam I’m addicted to salmon and tuna i just left all the land animals alone
Do you use herbicide, pesticide, kill animals at harvest? Always ask on both sides. ‘oh you eat meat shut up’, I also know vegans are pro kill if animals eat their crops! I have seen this in action.
First, things such as algae are not plants. Second, fish oil could mean anything. The only “fish oil” that matters is cod liver oil. Accept no substitutes.
Thank you for being one of the only videos to fully break down the difference and distinctions of epa, dha and ala. Very helpful. Keep up the good work.
No need to spend money on expensive supplements or exotic ingredients. Purslane, portulaca oleracea, (aka verdolaga) contains the highest levels of Omega-3 of any vegetable. And its a common weed. Its probably growing through cracks in your sidewalks. Don’t believe me? Do the research.
I am allergic to fish so thanks so much for doing this video!!
I bought hemp oil hoping it would be a good source of omega 3. Well, it is, but it does have twice as much Omega 6, which is inflammatory… NOT getting Omega 9 is hard to achieve. In fact, it is difficult to get only Omega 3 in the diet! PLEASE, stop mentioning eggs and cholesterol, the connection was debunked more than a decade ago! In fact, dietary cholesterol has very little, if anything to do with blood cholesterol.
By the way, mushrooms are a source of omega oils; some have more than others.
So much great information in that, is it possible to get a transcription?
why you did not stick to the core knowledge and stop the crap of story telling,
so much bullshit. I ate all kind of nuts and seeds in 2 years, and my brain health (depressions, fatigue) didn’t get any better until I introduced fatty fish, beef liver, animal fats and red meat. I got my brain back with animal foods.
I’m using algae based vegan oil and my balance is 1,7:1:) My 41yrs old body is functioning better than when I was 25:):)
Sorry don’t agree with the can beans. To many toxins in the can. As far as packaged soy goes. It is dead food after it is pasteurized. Or what ever chemical they put in there before packing into a container. Algae comes from the Ocean. Mercury is a killer. Sorry anything out of the ocean has mercury. Otherwise good video.
Great content, but you didn’t mention that the conversion from ALA to EPA/DHA occurs poorly in the body, around 5%. Also the best sources of ALA, Flaxseed and Chia seeds are very estrogenic and probably not suitable for everyone.
Love your video I subscribed. Nice calm presentation without all the drama:) especially now LOL
No oils, how can i have my salad???? I want to start eating plant based foods only!
No they are not. The oils in flax seeds do not contain EPA and DHA the primary acid that synthesizes the bioavailability of omega3. Also all the nuts and seeds all contain a much higher omega 6 to omega 3 raitio.. I also guarantee all those wallnuts, flax seeds, nut butters and seed oils you buy on the shelves are usually around for longer than you think from the time of processing, the fats are allready oxidised. Polyunsaturated fats are highly unstable when exposed to oxygen light and heat over just a verry short time. They don’t have to taste rancid either for you to know. So they are useless and toxic to the body..
But amount of conversion of aha to epa is very low. So eating fish is essential
I’ve been wanting to take DHA supplements because I figured it might help me with brain power because I am forgetful lately. I eat chia seeds a lot and it’s really nice!
Yea sorry buddy, my canned sardines in extra virgin olive oil will blow away any of ur bs vegans omegas lol
I like english walnuts because they are free and easily accessible where I live.
thanks for providing good info for vegans (and other fish avoiders), good stuff!
Just giving one thumbs up isn’t enough.!!!

Wow brother youve eased almost all my concerns. I really appreciate the tips. A must read for newly Veg-Heads
Hemp or algae are my favorite sources, hemp has a good mix of magnesium and iron to go along with omega 3 as well as a bit of protein:D
The problem is omega 3, from vegetable get concerts in EPA but have near not influence on the DHA level in all the studies I saw. If you have other data I would be happy if you share it with me. The problem of caps fish or algua is that they become rancid quickly and so toxic. The best I can suggest ist take flax seed oil from very good quality what is fucking difficult to find, most are bushit and some fish to be sure. Avoid the caps
You Need DHA and EPA, Whereas, ALA needs to be converted. Very little is converted to DHA and EPA. Most of the fat in the BRAIN is DHA!!! THIS IS PROPAGANDA!!
I just have one question about vegan algal oil supplements… Why are they so expensive? Really! They are ridiculously priced.
You suggest that eating eggs raises you cholesterol levels implying bad cholesterol (LDL).
However, eggs do not raise the ‘bad’ levels. Your liver converts LDL to HDL and vice versa therefore its your liver that decides your good/bad cholesterol levels.
Keep your liver healthy and it will keep you healthy.
Research online Eucharistic Miracles Our Dear Lord Jesus blood type discovered in the Holy Eucharist as part of the Catholic Faith you will see for yourself it’s truly amazing, the world needs God’s guidance that is the No.1 key to getting back on the right track I firmly believe. God is so Good ☘
Conversion of ALA to EPA/DHA is less than 1% and only if your microbiome is great. Studies found that 40% population practically can’t convert any ALA to EPA/DHA at all. The only source of omega 3 for vegans are algae pills. If you aren’t taking algae pills you are destroying your brain.
If you eat a vegan diet you don’t have to worry about any of this bologna I only eat fruits vegetables and seeds and I don’t have any problem or deficiency of nothing.
But amount of conversion of aha to epa is very slow. So eating fish is essential
People in Okinawa eat fish 3 times a week and live the longest in the world I’m kind of confused
Salmon and fish our natural diet. Before vegan became a trend eat more pills and supplements.
I THINK WE SHOULD ALL STOP EATING…….Everything’s a poison.
Just drink water…..which is also poison.
3 cheers for MOTHERFUCKIN POISON…..hip hip…..
…..and a big round of applause for Reggies mommas ass!
….and a clap for Dr Mills ass!
Fish dont accumulate the omega 3 in their tissue, they convert the omega 3s into EPA and DHA.
And fishing is extremely sustainable, try paying attention to who you’re buying from and how fish populations are doing.
But knowing Vegans, I’m talking to a brick wall.
PS: Fibre comes in two forms, and is subjective to a person’s diet and gene. If you’re keto, you wont need as much and some people actually have bad reactions to even small amounts fibre.
Getting enough Omega 6 from whole foods is just as important as getting enough Omega 3.
Hands down to them guys trying to make change and help with whats going on in the fishing industry. But SOY…. really? Its 2020 and soy is still being used? Do your research on SOY. Im so sick of seeing soy in 70% of vegan products or supplements.
The salad green purslane is also rich in ALA. Leafy greens in general contain it, too.
Also can you do a video on the effectiveness of health store herbs? Are they effective?
After watching this I just purchased a case load of omega 3 fish oil pills.
Sticking to my Keto/Carnivore diet. Allergic to walnuts anyway.
Please stop pushing misinformation LIVEKINDLY. ALA is vastly inferior to EPA and DHA, older people can’t even convert ALA to EPA effectively and studies with ALA have demonstrated that it does not increase blood levels of DHA. Being omega 3 deficient as a vegan is simply part of the territory. The best you can do is obsessively eat walnuts and even then they will only increase blood levels of EPA. Very few vegans will consistently take Algae oil since it is fairly nasty stuff (algae oil burp, heart burn, etc…). It should be noted that even if you ate walnuts and Algae oil, you would still end up with an iodine deficiency since this critical mineral is not present in a vegan diet (not to mention several other vitamins and minerals commonly deficient amongst vegans like calcium, zinc, iron, B2 and B12, among others). All that said, of course our oceans and fisheries are in trouble and we must figure out a sustainable path forward.
I just subscribed. I gave up meat, poultry and dairy. I’m trying to learn a different life style and ways of eating right.
It’s actually %3-5 percent for people who have balanced omega 3 and omega 6 ratio. for people who have escalated levels of omega 6 (like plant based diet followers) that conversation rate (like that vegan doctor from PCRM says) drops to %1-2. This information is known by livekindly, neil barnard of pcrm. we have discussed this many times. They will not cite those sources, cause they have to cherry pick information to con people into this malnutrition diet. I wonder how those doctors working for the benefit of an organization that is not even a physician’s committee but an animal rights organization (pcrm is not a medical organization, search for it, it’s an animal rights organization supported by PETA)
Just think about it; makers of these videos are TOLD about these facts with SCIENTIFIC papers cited over and over again. They are still ignoring and deceiving the public. Don’t you think those doctors need to get their licenses revoked? They are lying relentlessly.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9637947
“More specifically, most studies in humans have shown that whereas a certain, though restricted, conversion of high doses of ALA to EPA occurs, conversion to DHA is severely restricted. The use of ALA labelled with radioisotopes suggested that with a background diet high in saturated fat conversion to long-chain metabolites is approximately 6% for EPA and 3.8% for DHA. With a diet rich in n-6 PUFA, conversion is reduced by 40 to 50%.”
I ate omega 3 capsules for the first time yesterday, which was 300mg but after eating it I started having headaches, what is the reason for this, should I eat it or not please tell me thank you.
how many grams of omega 6 can you take? im on 7G of omega 3 and 18G of omega 6 is that okay?
Great useful information, thx.
Whole plant based foods on Instagram mikewakethefoodup
Now you’ve done it the right way!:D
Your usual videos were too long by leaving the click-bait info until the very end.
Now the click-bait info is at the start, and then you unraveled spuff to make a better listener experience.
i read that if you have to much of omega 6 in your body this wil cause a lot of inflammation in your body
Jesus I JUST WANT TO KNOW how many grams of each to eat as a vegan. I’ve been researching for HOURS and all the articles say the same crap all they say is “don’t eat as much Omega-6.” I want to know EXACTLY how much to eat for both in grams. The only sources I found said 1.1g Omega 3 to 12g Omega 6!!! How is that right? That ratio is backwards. Can someone please just give me the numbers for a vegan. I’m so frustrated.
What would you recommend to people with mood disorders who are looking to obtain higher amounts of omega 3s?
I’m going to thank you now and also my 11 and 8 year old do they have it for children??
All mentioned seeds and nuts, must be eaten raw to benefit from them! Btw, walnut are more omega 6 than omega 3 ratio.
My Omega Oil supplement contains 72mg-EPA
48mg-DHA
150mg-ALA
Omega 6-Linolenic Acid-200mg
Omega 9Olecic Acid-200mg
This is what it contains per serving, its seems like a low dossage to me from the info i have read and videos iv seen on youtube DHA and EPA should be alot higher than what i am taking. What do you think? Would it hurt to buy another omega 3 supplement to go along with the one im taking?
Common Purslane (Portaluca oleracea) is a healthy choice. It is also very tasty. Somewhere between spinach and broccoli; depending what part of the plant you are eating and when in the season and within the growth cycle. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1354675 300-400mg ALA O-3 in a 100 gram serving. Which is a rather small serving for salad eaters.
I’m a serious carnivorous omnivore, and I love this stuff. You can cultivate wild or domesticated varieties very easy. It is a common weed in temperate zones and will grow out of cracks in the sidewalk. 5000 seed packs of the commonly cultivated variety are available on Amazon for $6-10. It grows like a weed and will take over an area. Golden Purslane has been a popular kitchen garden plant in Europe for 100 years. Miner’s Lettuce is a winter hardy variety, also quite tasty.
I take E3. Feel good on that. Plus, love chlorophyll. Makes me feel so fresh and clean inside and out. (Contains trace amounts of Omega 3 but also other nutrients and is not oily-so a more gentle, whole foods source of algae-based Omega 3?) Note: it is may only be difficult to convert ALA to EPA and DHA because people have been consuming so much premade EPA and DHA by consuming fish. Like many good and necessary nutrients, more is not necessarily better. Because these are fats, they are stored. In order to prevent too much from building up, bodies may have down-regulated the process of converting ALA to DHA and EPA. I am not sure if this happens and can be reversed in one lifetime or if generations of fish-eating has built it into our DNA to some degree, but either way, just ingest some algae and know that the difficulty of this conversion is in no way an indication that we are meant to eat fish. (In case someone uses that argument on you.) One or several of the great plant-based doctors can be consulted on this for more information. Dr. Klapper, Dr. Barnard, Dr. Greger…I’m just repeating to the best of my recollection what I learned from them. Based on my experience with Cronometer, it seems all plants and fruits, even ones that wouldn’t be considered to have fat, seem to have more Omega 3 than 6 (the desirable ratio) and seem to contain plenty.
I am happy that I clicked on a Dr. Milton Mill’s video. Wow, I’m a fan now.
Thanks Irene…I was looking for vegan sources for my skin vitamins, and fatty acids…good informative video..:)
The only vegan sources of omega 3 that are actually good are flaxseeds and chia seeds because they have more omega 3s than omega 6s. Walnuts have 4 times more omega 6s than omega 3s so how do you expect enough of ALA from walnuts to be converted into EPA and DHA when the huge amount of omega 6s will compete with omega 3s over the same enzymes?
A vegan who actually knows something about omega 3 fats, I am a little shocked. I actually clicked on this video expecting laughable stupidity as I have seen from so many other vegan sources on this topic in the past.
Leaved life to the fullest…n be happy with a clean heart n peace of mind…n eat food more on vegetables fruits…

Nice video, Irene, I’m new to being a vegan and looking for a way to replace my fish oil supplement. Thanks so much for the info!
Why isn’t perilla seeds being talked about? It’s THE best source of ALA. And it tastes way better than flax seeds or chia seeds.
but the ALA conversion to DHA is very-very low, as our bodies are not good at this conversion. Fish Oil on the other hand come readily with EPA and DHA. Some vegan omegas also have DHA and EPA in certain supplements. And there are fish oil without Mercury.
I’ve been vegan for 6 years. My blood results were very good EXCEPT for omega 3. I was consuming chia seeds, flax seeds, flax seed oil and expensive phytoplankton powder. They all fucking sucked for me. I’ve now started taking fish oil and i feel A LOT better!
It’s “easy” to get enough Omega 3 fatty acids via vegan foods? Not exactly. Conversion rates from vegan sources are poor. This fact is well-known.
I like the video, more of it please. We need people to find out the truth and stop repeating what commersials are telling people is best. Could you tell me how did you get your masters in nutrition? I would like to study it online, if you have a link I would be grateful. Thank you for your work!
It was too short. More detail on Omega 3/6 would be helpful.
It’s bullshit I’m not vegan and I’m healthy and also use fish oil I been better then ever
I mix 3 tablespoons of whole flax seeds in my morning fruit oatmeal bowls.
Awesome. Was so confused about this topic and now I’m clear. Thanks!
great video https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt8AkF424WKHWt3mIbW8nVw
Your doctor friend made some very deceptive comments mixed in with a majority of his information which is correct. He said in essence, we should not be eating fish because they are toxic. That is basically not true. Let’s look at the FACTS. Japanese eat more fish than most other countries in the world….by a large margin. The Japanese have the longest average life expectancy in the world. That is reality…get over it.
seaweed isnt a good source of b12 i hear its either an analog or not active, failed to raise serum b12 in vegan children as there levels slowly decreased over time
Awesome video; be careful though spreading the idea that ALA sources like walnuts and other seeds and nuts are appropriate for meeting overall Omega3 requirements: ALA converts to DHA only at 5% rate, and DHA is the fatty acid from which brain cell membranes and white matter are made of; your video properly signals microalgae supplements as being higher in DHA, but infact they are the only viable plant based source of DHA (5% is 20:1 so you would have to eat 20 times your ALA daily requirements to get as much DHA in your system, and ALA and DHA requirements are even different).
Some ads/discussion about algal oil say that you only need to be concerned with teh DHA content; that EPA is synthesized or otherwise not as important as the DHA content. This is never mentioned with other sources. Can you comment?
For anyone eating chia and flax seeds for ALA. Make sure they are ground.
Havé yov éver séén a Great Monk
or a littlémade its Fisher oïl!!!I went plant based on Feb 20th 2020. Can’t get enough of this amazing info
How do you treat bulging veins in hands not due to age or exercise?
Greetings from Brazil
I like so much this good doctor besides I am a SDA our church is the only one that has a plant based diet it’s part of our doctrine sord speaking
I take fish oil everyday. Actually, this is not an ordinary fish; it is coming from the liver oil from the shark. It has omega Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
I eat flax seed every day. Be sure to grind them or they will pass through you without giving you any benefit. I grind a big batch in a blender or coffee grinder and then refrigerate it. Otherwise it turns rancid.
Is this why eating more than about half an avocado when I have a hunger headache only makes it worse? I see online that avocados have a high Omega-6:Omega-3 ratio.
So following his logic when cow eats gras we are eating plant beef not meat beef? So stupid animal protein is different than plant protein each has benefits same as fish oil and flaxseed or chia seeds omegas, what you need is good sauces of fish there are companies who extract omegas from fish 5 min after their are caught on the boat, so stupid this guy doesn’t know what is talking about
The idea seems to be that you don’t eat only 1 source of healthy fats. It’s a combination that you have to consume regularly, even more food than non-vegans, so that you get all the nutrition you need. Your body only absorbs a certain amount eat time you eat, so you have to eat more and eat a wide variety
Is it safe to consume algae based DHA/EPA supplements, or should I just be eating foods that provide me with lots of ALA
Sorry, but no. Flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, all of that stuff not a better omega 3 source than fish in ANY way. The conversion ratio of ALA to EPA and DHA is pathetic (1-5% how many nuts are you going to eat?) and can’t be really considered when providing proper amounts of omega 3’s.
Algae are good however, but very expensive.
Before i watch this i have one word going through my mind algae
I have a question about the omega 3,6,9. What is the requirements for daily basis for our body??you are real queen by your beautiful eyes and face.
There are the long-chain fatty acids in algae, not just ALA. There are vegan supplements sourced from algae that have EPA and DHA. The algae can also be grown in clean water free of pollutants. I don’t take those supplements anymore but they are available for vegans that feel they are necessary.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074N5JZK8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You can 100% get all your omega 3’s from diet alone, but most people don’t eat as they should so supplementing with fish oil is absolutely beneficial.
All great info, thanks for sharing. But what data exists on the conversion rates of ALA to DHA and EPA? Or how a compromised immune or gut function plays into that
Since I eat a lot of chicken and get too many omega 6 I have to take a high quality fish oil to get high DHA and EPA.
The doctor seems like he’s got some insulin resistance issues, maybe he should get his house in order before giving advice to others.
Make sure you grind flaxseeds first (coffee grinder works great) right before using. Otherwise, you will get no nutritional benefit from them.
Thanks interesting. I got concerned about this from Dr Klapper reversal of his belief the algea suppliments for DHA EPA are fine. In fact, Im sure it took him a lot of thought and study to admit he was likely in error. He was so big on plant based folks need to supplement with algae DHA EPA but then found a study that indicates increased prostate cancer, and so awaiting more studies he backed off the algae DHA EPA.
So now, (I hope I am getting this right) he suggests getting walnuts and other sources of fat (and very little of that) and not to worry about it. LOL. I hope we get it cleared up.
IN 20 years we will know so much more.
Right now everyone is so self confident their idea is right but time will tell Humans have huge egos and tendency to believe what they want. Whatever works whatever gets and keeps us healthy and the earth healthy is what matters.
How healthy with Dr Greger, and others be, in terms of aging and brain function, heart issues, etc, compared to the meat fanatics. My money is on Greger and co. My guess is Vegans are right, but maybe need a serving fish once a month or so. But who knows?
Clarify that ratio what are u tslking abt??? Can u explain pls?
ALA is not converted to a sustainable form of omega 3 Seriously, ditch this vaginanism, at the very least become a lacto, ovo, pescatarian. Really, stop this cultish, anti human ideology.
I love it! Fish don’t produce Omega 3. America is robbing society with this fish oil. The Dortor explained it well. Thanks for posting!
So you found one dr that supports ur bs, better hold onto him for dear life so u can keep making these videos
1)Perhaps stop suggesting, with imagery of bodybuilders lifting weights, that men should eat tofu as a protein replacement, until the phytoestrogen can be removed or countered.
2)flaxseed is my current goto source of omega-3.
3)thank you for showing me Finless and Good Catch, until now I’ve not heard of them.
I’m not vegan because I like eggs, which I justify with the fact that they’re not fertilised.
I have successfully remained vegetarian since Oct 2019 due to Sunfed Meats many previous attempts failed but no turning back now. Sunfed ‘chicken-free-chicken’ saved me.
Thank you for this video. Short, understandable and clear. This is public service.
Applause
(if anyone knows the equivalent for chia seeds…
Also, I wonder the content in collard greens… SInce my childhood that I love those greens in soups and a dish we have with collard greens and white beans. My instincts go crazy with the idea of eating them. I think we all have good instincts for what our body needs and the food we crave. Last time I checked they provided a whole bunch of nutrients that paired with the white beans provided a considerable amount of calcium. No wonder I loved them in my childhood but still do… Anyway… Collard greens from thaat place where I lived are very different from others:) Gifts from the land…who knows
Nice info but What is the conversion rate of ALA into DHA and EPA in our body? I have read it’s very less 5-10%.
Good info, but that clip where they’re sprinkling linseed / flax seed is incorrect. Took me years to accidentally discover that they need to be ground, just like chia and hemp seeds, or they won’t absorb into the body. Thanks a lot to Hench Herbivore for sharing that info https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nes-lFFPkQ
Hemp are a favourite, lush with peanut butter and banana on toast or in porridge
Iodine’s another important one, it has an affect on thyroid function. Nori seaweed sheets and asda oat milk are favourite go to plant based sources for that.
WILD RICE. TOFU. SEAWEED.
I could literally eat these three everyday!

Omega-3s On A Vegan Diet And The Truth About Fish Oil
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdGLYBhfMT0
ALA= LONG CHAIN & ESSENTIAL FATTY ACID. [Can’t produce ourselves.] HEMP SEED, CHIA SEEDS, FLAX SEED, WALNUTS ETC……..next: harder to come by is EPA. [marine oils + sea weeds.] [EX. COMBU, DULSE, NORI, ETC.]
Can we convert these two Omega 3-types to DHA? yes we are designed to convert but we are not all created equal. _ Something that can hinder the convertion process from ALA > EPA> DHA is: Old age and consuming to many Omega 6 rich foods. Can greatly hinder convertion from ALA > EPA > DHA in the body naturally. Vegan cheeses etc. are really packed with Omega 6. [Too much.] look out for an imbalance ratio between Omega 6 and Omega 3 to solve problems with inability to convert. 1:1 Omega 6 to 1 Omega 3 is a good ratio. Nuts and seeds are good to consume in moderation. Flax & chia seeds are good examples of foods that has a balanced ratio between 3/6 Omega’s. Make sure to get enough Omega 3’s and create this balance. The average person has way (!) too much Omega 6 in their diet [ratio.] + Take an algae based DHA supplement in addition. ✓optional. [some say it’s a scam, but look into it for yourself.]:) _
Biologically active? Is she inferring plant based omega 3s don’t function at the same level within the body as fish-based omega 3s? Would love to see the studies supporting that.
Regardless… bottom line, throw two ground tablespoons of flaxseeds in your kale and berry smoothie everyday and take an Algae based omega 3 supplement… get all the benefits and avoid all the risks associated with fish oil, like PCBs, dioxins, etc… which are still present in molecularly distilled brands.
I have heard that some people have problems extracting ALA to EPA and DHA which we need
Is that true?
Wouldn’t the omega 3 producing algae aborb the same toxins that the fish do? Why would we conflate dietary mercury that is bound to a protein molecule to free inhaled mercury gas? Thimerisol, the preservative found in flu vaccines, sends protein bound mercury to our blood stream, yet it is easily flushed out by our kidneys. Dietary, protein bound, Hg only passes through our gut lining in micro amounts and we apparently get rid of it.

Thank you for your video i have been struggling to find affordable ways to get omega 3 as i am vegetarian
You’re completely wrong we can absorb less than 10% of ALA from plant based Omega 3 sources… Fish is a much better source of Omega 3
Some people have a ‘vegetarian gene’ that controls the ALA conversion. Would be nice if 23andMe would check for it, so one day I will send my DNA code over to a place that will tell me how much of that gene I have.
Do you know if Dr. Mills has any published research resources online I can use for my assignments? Im a naturopathy student and I’m not vegan but in my country it is still taught in most natural medicine schools that you have to eat meat in order to have a optimal nutrition. I would love some published resources to reference. Thanks!
I am shocked. Out of all the foods LiveKindly left out the healthiest ones. You came close with Avocado oil, but would why would you recommend processed food? It does not even have the best Omega 3 to 6 ratio. I would choose Honeydew melon, bananas, cantelope, blueberries, papaya, and Mango to name a few.
Between 8 to 20 percent of ALA is converted to EPA in humans, and between 0.5 to 9 percent of ALA is converted to DHA. So please explain how vegan Omega 3 sources are better than fish sources
The statement that “the brain is 30% DHA” is simply false. Let’s be accurate. It’s true that DHA is the most abundant fatty acid in the brain, but it constitues no more than 15% of the total fatty acid composition of the brain tissue.
Does anyone know if it is okay to have more omega 3 than omega 6?
You live in Chiang Mai so you should be able to get the actual seaweed and avoid almost all processing and cost. Boonsom Spirulina Farm in Chiang Mai
I hear EPA is better, are there foods/vegan that are specific to that? Thanks fo the great video!
In addition, the body naturally produces small amounts of DHA.
So informative. Thank you for covering this. I looked for information on vegan sources for EPA and DHA elsewhere and only found references to DHA. Thanks again!
This is great content. Been watching a lot of these cla, ala, epa, dha videos, and this is very well rounded, complimentary and simplified information to go with what I’ve been trying to learn. This brings it home for me so to speak. Thanks!
And back at ya lol
If you can get algae you’ll get the necessary dha. The plant food way via epa is BS. Most can’t get much converted to dha. Everyone knows this.
Not everyone converts ALA to EPA to DHA equally. Some people don’t make the full conversion at all. Moreover, you have to watch Omega 6 to 3′ ratios since high ratios of 6 to 3 will inhibit conversion of ALA to EPA to DHA.
Yo this dude knocked it out. Short and to the freakin’ point. Great Job bro.
Can you recommend which supplement you use to get your EPA and DHA? I looked on Amazon but many of them look very suspicious.

Oh, and a “sewage waste plant” (as he calls it) or water treatment facility DOES NOT function the way he claims it does.
Does spirulina and chlorella contain omega 3’s? If so, what type?
