Sorry Thomas but this is so incorrect. The Paleo I follow does NOT rely on carbs found in fruits at all. It is lots of non starchy veggies such as greens and also encourages fermented veggies. Normally I find you really thorough but this video is not. I get into ketosis just as easily with Paleo as I do with Keto.

He is so wrong. Dairy is not a Big thing persay in keto or carnivore. People adapt these protocols. If you are dairy intolerant don’t eat it. If l eat grains or carbs l put on weight regardless of calories. Remember please most of us do not train 24/7!!! You look good but you are rarity xx

Ummm… You have not done enough real research on the basics of Paleo. FAT IS USED AS THE FUEL!!!! Fruit… Yes. Preferably low sugar choices. The bread images though…?!?!? ABSOLUTE LIES!!! The reason why Paleo works is because the body goes into ketosis. There is no “eating junk” on Paleo. On keto you can definitely lose weight but processed foods and chemicals can cause health issues. On the other hand, Paleo eliminates all of the REAL junk and truly heals your body. The only people at a CrossFit box that are not in shape are those who do not eat a strict Paleo diet. Many of them don’t. They eat more of a Primal or follow a 5 days Paleo and 2 days off model. When it comes to Paleo you CANNOT “cheat”! The minute you do, your body goes out of ketosis and when you eat Paleo friendly foods, it no longer works. It takes 3-4 weeks of strict Paleo in order for your body to convert and use fat as fuel. You really should take this video down because there are NUMEROUS things you say and show that are inaccurate. To eat Paleo you just have to be truly dedicated and have the ability to not “cheat”. The discipline is the hardest thing for people. I believe the healing it does is COMPLETELY worth it! The cravings for junk go away once the body has converted to using fat as it’s fuel so if you cheat, it is all mental.
Please answer my question, does eating slow digesting food, like casein, at the end of the feed state mess with the start of the fasting state, in sense of the fasting state beginning at the last meal ingested or digested? And does whey break keto?

I’m diabetic so I think I used both paleo and keto for health purposes. I have eliminated dairy, sugar, honey, pasta, bread even whole wheat bread, potatoes, white rice, etc. but still do my own keto almond flour bread for my sandwiches. Love to eat healthy fats (fish, avocado..)with lots of salad, and do intermittent fasting. I weigh 128 lbs, and was recently diagnosed with diabetes type 2. so I try to look for good and tasty alternatives. I have lost 8 lbs in two over two weeks, my glucose level lowered and I feel great. I enjoyed your video!

That is a loaded question! Thanks for doing a video on it. I have this discussion pretty regularly with my readers. I love the word “template” instead of diet. I am tired of the diet dogma of there is only one “right” way to eat. You really have to tailor your eating towards your specific needs and where your health is at right now and then adjust as you heal and transition to new areas of health. There is definitely no “one-size-fits-all” dietary style.
I’m exploring the options of paleo and keto and had a question: in this video you mention paleo suits someone who is not very active more than keto but then in your ‘keto vs low carb’ video you say keto is best suited for someone less active. Am I’m missing something here? I’m trying to figure out which would be best for me but…? Thanks in advance for anyone’s help.
I have been on keto for about 8 months now and lost about 50 lbs. Noticed a lot of other benefits as well-such as mental clarity, overcoming depression, and energy. Fast forward after I reached my weight loss goal and I started to incorporate low glycemic fruits into my diet like all the berries. Fast forward a bit more and now I find myself craving more and more and more berries before reaching satisfaction. Fast forward a couple of weeks more and now I’m gaining weight again-just from incorporating berries. BERRIES! lol. But on the plus side? I’ve been moving my bowels almost every day while eating berries whereas on keto I’d be lucky to poop 1x a week.
Weeks after incorporating berries, I’ve also noticed I’ve lost a lot of the mental clarity, and a lot of depression came back. I’m not going to say that correlation equals causation, but it’s just too coincidental. In the end, Sugar is Sugar, no matter what the fiber content. And sugar is the main culprit here. I need to go back into ketosis and COMPLETELY stop eating fruits. Period.

I’ve had to give up Keto because I’ve found myself lately having to start all over again many times in a short amount of time. Even though, it works, I can do it, I love the foods and I make all my own meals and I’m organized. BUT I’m in a period of my life where im very social, I go to many family events where a lot is weddings, funerals, traveling. I will never reject my boyfriends moms food even if she makes me something carby. I see my grandma a lot and I’m not gonna deny her cooking either or move the crabs to the side. When my Indian co workers bring food specifically for our classroom. I will never turn it down. I do not have the heart..ever. I’ll serve myself so I can control it, maybe it’s the mexican in me, but to me it’s just unacceptable (unless you’re allergic)..you dont do that. Even though it kicks me out if ketosis. Its RUDE, you dont even mention oh..”I dont eat _”…unless you really just dont like a certain food (peppers or something). You dont put people in those positions or anything like that when they’ve served you a plate. I’m dont find it rude at all when I’m the host and someone cant eat something. I just cant do it myself. Like..its instilled in me. I cant even think about getting the words out. “Oh I dont eat that..oh I dont eat this”. Guess it’s a cultural thing IDK! I’m not obese or even overweight. So for me..I guess having as little sugar as possible works for me…having as little carbs as I can works for me. But cutting a specific food completely out of my life…is out of the questions! ♀️

No “milled” foods? What about almond flour, coconut flours? What about sweeteners that have been “processed” but are used as substitutes for sugar?
I’m on a combination of Paleolithic and Mediterranean diets. I find it impossible to cut out all carbs! Yes, I’ve cut out almost all sugar (except at parties), but the rest of the carbs are difficult to cut.

It really amazes me how much misinformation there is with the paleo diet. Our Palaeolithic ancestors were not eating bread and pancakes that a lot of the mainstream paleo cookbooks incorporate. Wild fruits during the available seasons, non-starchy veg, meat and fish. Maybe some nuts and seeds but I suppose it depends on what part of the world they were in. Apart from the seasons of when fruit trees are in flower, a proper ancestral paleo diet is pretty much a keto-paleo diet.
We are all here because we want to be in ketosis but miss them carbs! ( I miss quinoa, fava beans, chickpeas…etc )

Hello! I bought the keto reset book in February of 2018 and started my keto lifestyle! I chose keto partly because my glucose levels were prediabetic and that scared me. I lost over 40 pounds and I felt great! (high energy, clarity and confidence) I share your book with whoever asks me about my success with keto. Now I have a question. I recently donated blood and my cholesterol has gotten pretty high. Since starting keto, I had bloodwork done every six months to monitor my glucose and those numbers did drop. But my cholesterol has steadily increased. I am 53 and menopausal and that may account for some of the increase but I a worried that I will have to stop doing keto in order to get my cholesterol down. What can I do?

You didn’t mention vegetables…. LOL… or I missed it. Vegetables, of course, are encouraged on all diets paleo, low carb and keto (varied on the basis of how many carbs you are aiming for but all diets say that vegetables are necessary and healthy.) I follow a low carb (75 100 total carb grams per day), moderate protein, moderate fat, lots of veggies, max of 1 fruit per day Paleo diet. Some people on Paleo diets eat no dairy, some eat moderate full-fat dairy. I don’t eat any dairy because I am lactose intolerant. I also follow Dr. Becky’s 0-1-2-3 plan……. So I eat 3 meals a day: each meal has protein and healthy fats. I have 1 large salad per day, 2 cups of cooked veggies and stop eating 3 hours before bedtime. I eat 0 sugar. I count my total carb grams. After the carbs of my large salad and 2 cups of cooked vegetables per day, I fill out my 75 100 total carbs per day with some berries or a small baked sweet potato or a little bit of rice. Works for me…….
I love keto but Everytime i go into ketosis my electrolytes get out of wack despite replenishment. I do paleo with some dairy now just making during I have enough carbs to keep me out of ketosis

The Keto eliminates processed flours however, the oils, olive, macadamia, i.e., are allowed even though those are processed? Same can be said with butter.

Usually a fan of your videos, but this felt like it missed the mark. These diets shouldn’t be compared because they are defined by different criteria. Keto is defined by macronutrient ratios, Paleo is defined by food sources. You can be Keto and Paleo at the same time, thereby undercutting many of the points you made in this video (eg: “Paleo utilizes carbs as a source of energy”).

Should do a Raw Dairy vs Pasteurized dairy video… Pasteurizing kills the necessary enzymes to digest dairy… Most people that are lactose intolerant actually do well on raw Dairy… But I don’t think there’s any studies on that subject…

Hi Mark, You were recommended by Dr Jack. I’m a vegetarian and one meal a day person and feel good for it. Since not eating meat I have felt so much better. Do you recommended the primal or Keto lifestyle for me who dose not want to eat meat any more? Also, I practice the Wim Hof Method every day (breathing exercises, cold therapy and meditation).
The problem with this kind of advice is the idea that paleo is defined and has a set list of recommendations. Who actually defined what is a Paleo diet? Furthermore, Paleo is about FOOD QUALITY first. It’s about the best possible foods you can find that are ancestrally appropriate. From there, you can eat like the Intuit (definitely keto) or the kitavans (70% carb) and do just fine. Paleo is more keto if you take the majority of observed hunter gatherers and look at their natural diets because most of them ate very little carbs, especially at certain times of the year.
Never realized until now, how close my personal keto diet is to Paleo; basically the only non Paleo thing I’m using is store bought collagen powder and liquid stevia extract. Pretty interesting

Limiting carbs in ketosis, not a good idea. You’re using a pathway that you’re body really doesn’t want to use. It’s an emergency pathway that can lead to kidney issues. Yes it may cause some weight loss.

Usually I get a lot from your videos… but here you are trying to mislead people by showing huge loaves of bread every time you mention paleo, even though the paleo diet doesn’t allow any bread at all. Your bias is showing… and not in a scientific way.
Well, if your ancestors were from northern climates, you wouldn’t have a choice. During the winter you’re likely going to be in ketosis since all you could get is animal protein and fat. Then spring comes and there’s berries, fruits, abundant tubers etc.

I personally would add ‘wild rice’ (REAL wild rice…..like the stuff the natives and others have been harvesting from the Great Lakes for thousands of years) as ‘permissible’ on the Paleo. Why? Couple reasons. It’s actually more a grass than a grain, and it’s minimally cultivated. One reason Paleo forbids almost all grains is that it contradicts the ‘Paleo’ in Paleo. Which predates cultivation and animal husbandry. However wild rice is cultivated in it’s natural state…..(grains beaten into the canoes by poles……..then cracked and ‘gleaned’ by hand for consumption)…….and it WAS gathered and consumed by ‘Paleo-Indians’ in North America. So……..’permissible’.
I never could understand why anyone could buy into Sweeteners. Either extra sugar is good or it is not. Sweets are a false commodity.

My biggest concern on these diets is how I’m able to fuel high intensity spin and boxing workouts if I’m not consuming carbs. That being said, did I hear you say in this video, that under the keto diet, using stored fats as a fuel source is actually MORE effective than using carbs?
Peleo diet recommends low carb for weigh lost. Low carb peleo is way more healthy than keto

I did Keto for a few months but wound up with too many cravings. 20 grams of carbs a day maximum was a dealbreaker. So I started doing modified Keto instead, limiting sugar, eating healthy fats, protein, and vegetables like kale, spinach, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and esparragos, and drinking plenty of water and seltzer, but allowing myself to have between 50-60 grams of carbs a day, which still isn’t a whole lot. This combined with exercise 3 to 4 days a week with weights. It worked for a few of my friends as they lost fat, weight, and gained muscle. I also do a whole lot of walking.
Energy deprives from glucose (carbohydrates) is more efficient than energy deprived from fat. It lasts longer. It’s why our bodies utilize it as a priority.
I like his objective facts. I cant seem to stick to Keto because I crave the al dente texture of things like brown rice. Still trying to figure out what’s best for me

I eat most fat one day, sometimes a meal will be a quart of raw kefir, other days I’ll have some liver and berries
I tried keto and I really struggled. I have no gall bladder and so the high fat content made me feel sick all the time. Not trying to be gross but I couldn’t leave the bathroom. I tried so many enzymes and biles to help process the fats but it did not work for me, I still felt really ill. Also I recently found out I am allergic to dairy, soy and gluten. I really want to lose weight I just am not sure if my stomach can take the high fat content. So i was going to try paleo to see if it would help me. Do you have any tips regarding my situation?
Can you do a video on steroids? Ive been thinking about doing steroids for a while but im not completely aware of its possible side effects, and im not sure if its worth it or not.
After quite a long time on carnivore, I still had issues that had not cleared up. After switching to 80% fat, 20% protein, almost everything has been improving. One of the clear advantages is cost savings. I was eating 3.5 lbs of expensive meat each day. Now, I’m eating about a 1 lb of meat each day with another 5-6 oz of fat added. The fat is just beef trimmings from my butcher he charges 85 cents/lb for it. So, I’m eating only a third of what I was and part of that is at 85 cents/lb vs $8-10/lb. I am also satisfied for longer and cravings have vanished. While I was on carnivore, it was always a fight with temptation when I was around other traditional foods at family gatherings. Now, it’s easy as can be to avoid those. I was about 60% fat while on carnivore. All this changed by dropping dairy and upping fat to 80% and it happened almost overnight. I am rapidly becoming a firm believer in this diet.
If want to to lose weight fast, I do keto.Then went low carb high fat. Now to maintain, I do 2 meals a day. And go carb crazy once in awhile. Of course after carb crazy I fast. I always check my blood sugar. Buy a meter its great!
Paleo was over ten thousand years ago by the way before the agriculture revolution.
I found paleo 4 yrs ago. Felt better compared to low fat plans, but still felt “off” & tired! Happened upon ketogenic info a year after. It was difficult to get information at that time, but since I was looking for mental clarity, possibly impending alzheimers, & needing energy to just LIVE, I figured a plan that worked for epilepsy patients might be worth trying! FF to now. Keto is not for every body, but MY body THRIVES off it. Depressing thoughts occur MUCH less. Cravings? None… I have to remind myself to eat to fuel my body! I go off-plan sometimes (social reasonsdifferent subject) & am blasted w the reminder of how I used to feel! Crapola!

Life without carbs sucks big time. I had been doing the keto diet for a couple of weeks and I had cravings so bad that I thought I was going to loose my mind. I need my cheat meals/days.
This is probably pretty distant from your opinions but I found through my own experience that low FODMAP worked for me. However, eating low FODMAP is just a way to avoid irritating IBS and not a solution. The reason why people with gut issues experience relief with a low FODMAP diet is because they have too much fat in their diet. Fat is so slow to digest and it coats the cell walls. When this happens, it slows the digestion of other foods. For food that are high FODMAP, it means they are slow to pass through the stomach and therefore causing fermentation in the stomach. The solution to this is eating a very low fat diet. 80/10/10-based diets are the best way to solve this issue. 3 months ago, I could not eat ripe bananas without feeling miserable afterwards until I started cutting back the fat in my diet. I can now eat as many ripe bananas as I want without any problem. Our society has become obsessed with protein intake and have had extreme high-fat intake without even realizing it. North Americans love peanut butter and consider it a “protein,” when it’s really 70% calories from fat. Many people are thriving on the 80/10/10 diet or RT4 diet and the logic and math behind it actually make a lot of sense.
