There’s nothing groundbreaking about the workout itself—it involves nothing more than treadmills, rowing machines, and strength training, all of which you can find at gyms across the country.The five zones Orangetheory Fitness uses to program workouts. I just signed up for my first OTF class next week this gives me a good idea what to expect.
Where do I sign up for a franchise, great concept and good instructor.
Managed HIIT training with resistance, frequent options for progression and regression. He’s trying to keep on top of everyone’s form. The only thing that suffers slightly, which is true of all group intensity classes, is the instructors ability to get round the room, but he’s doing a great job. I think group HR monitoring will be industry standard everywhere within 3 years, I am already seeing it at aerobics and spin classes and of course orange theory. Well done for moving the industry forward.

This new cos i`ve never heard of it. I`m guessing another new fad that wont last.
I love my Orange Theory! I’m on my fourth year & have dropped overall 40lbs. I should’ve dropped more but I’ve had my bouts where I still fight temptation with sugar; especially when I was out with an ankle injury(completely unrelated to OTF), so I gained a lot of it back. I can’t speak for all studios, but I love our coaches as they always have energy & intensity in their own way. I love when we have our themed days as those really increase the intensity & motivation with everyone. Everyone cheers each other on, so it’s a really friendly environment.
I encourage anyone who may be on the fence about it to give it a shot. If you’re out of shape & can only walk or use light weights, there’s no judgment whatsoever, so feel free to use what you feel comfortable with. It’s a blast & you have nothing to lose but a ton of sweat & calories.
Do you think there’s enough weight lifting time in OT to get a better butt / arms or is that something one would have to do extra on their own?
I’m a personal trainer, I’m not hating but for those people this is called,bootcamp, circuit training, cardio circuit workout, or as they call it now high intensity training all the same thing it’s called the new thing to do,I love circuit training that’s what I do with my clients..so for those that think this is different well it’s the same thing that everyone has been doing for 25 to 40 years..so for those that were under a rock look up old school circuit training..I like it but it’s the same thing everyone does..crossfit idiot circuit training I call that.

Wow!!! That was tough. Love all the workouts. My husband and I do them together 5 days a week and we have so much fun!
Really enjoy the lower body and core burn today. Super appericate the “ding” sound to notify us when to change exercises. I was able to focus more on my body and muscles/heart rate than on the clock. Please keep that feature along with the clock and bar timing down as they are useful throughout the program. Great job OTF #morelife

Thank you for the review. I was interested but honestly it seems boarding. I love the competition aspect and yet still do your own pace but row/run and only a little interval training. Also looks like they don’t give you a ton of floor space which would make me feel squeezed and claustrophobic. I’ll stick to my work my classes.

i did my first class today. it’s simple and easy, but engaging:) i got 36 splat points
I haven’t worked out in probably 6 years but 3 kids later I need something like this to motivate me as a normal gym isn’t working. My main concern is getting a back injury from not easing back into fitness. I’m also one month post partum so an injury with a newborn would suck. Hopefully the classes aren’t too big so they can really focus on your form.

I didn’t like OT. First the board the trainer used to write the workout on was a white board and it was hard to read from all locations. The work out itself was too jostled around. I personally don’t like to “think” too much in my workout. Its too crazy in there. I hurt myself during one of the workouts and I’m not out of shape. It’s inevitable you will try to speed up and it was hard to find my groove. It’s not for me but I know some people love it. It was frustrating and irritating being in there.

I am about to apply for a job as a trainer there. What kind of trainer are they looking for? I am newly certified, however I am a massage therapist with comedy improv training and have trained for a 1/2 Ironman last summer before getting hurt 55 miles into training. I can be a bit of an introvert, however I am very funny and love to help ppl make goals. I am capable of meeting ppl where they are and encourage them endlessly. Any thoughts? Thx for the video!

People with Plantar fasciitis can’t do this. I’m currently suffering from PF for 6 months now and there is no way I can run.
Not to be critical but I was expecting more. OTF seems good for those who do not know how to work out or are just starting out (which could be a sizable number) or need the motivation of a structured class. If you know what you’re doing and you can stay self motivated then you don’t need OTF, unless you want the social part of it. And the room is small for the number of participants. They really cram you in there.

I’ve done two classes and have been working out for many decades. I would absolutely recommend Orange theory workouts!! In a class setting it’s easier to stay fast paced for the one hour class. Everyone was dripping wet after class. I believe you will lose weight, improve your cardio, look and feel younger, and help sculpt your body by doing these workouts. You don’t typically get this kind of effort working out at a regular gym or doing P 90 X at home. Don’t be afraid; just take a step and do a class. Mark in SW Florida.

I tried to book a free visit but they required I live in the neighborhood…or have proof of my work address… I work at a small non profit we don’t have IDs… I was discouraged..& will never try to attend there classes..& I’m gonna make sure I tell everyone how hard it was to try and get the 1st visit… I was disappointed

Orange theory is good for people with basic goals. If you’ve never been serious about fitness and need to get over a plateau, Orange theory is great., For people who want more intense and personalized training with serious results, I like F45. There are two trainers instead of one and you don’t spend half your class on the treadmill, like you do at Orange Theory. Plus you can burn over 1,000 calories in 45 minutes depending on the class.

Great review! I am curious about the warm up, as I did not really see much of a warm up. Do they do anything specific, or is it just a slow start at the station you start at? Also is there any mobility work done with a foam roller or massage ball?

Joined Orange Theory a while ago. The coaches are awesome! Front desk staff was moody and I hated the heart rate monitors. They always broke. I sent mine in and never got it back up to the point that I cancelled. Loved the group environment, but too expensive for the problems with the monitors and for the front desk service to be rude

The “orange zone” is simply what running, swimming, and other endurance coaches have referred to for decades as threshold or tempo pace. It’s basically the first heart rate zone where the activity becomes stressful enough on your body to be considered a hard workout. Beginners will see significant improvement from this type of training because they are relatively untrained, but if your goal is to increase your endurance long term you should only enter that zone once or twice per week. That being said, if you just want to lose weight orange theory is probably fine.
This looked so boring, like something trying to be like crossfit without the great community feeling of crossfit. But glad you tried it so I know it’s not for me. Thanks for that.

I love OT! It has strengthened me to do 5K races again. The Coaches are amazing and very engaged. Seriously I am so happy that I enrolled. I have bone density issues and if I am concerned about an exerciseI do the modified one. Shout out to Orange Theory in Warner Robins, GA! Ricky, Riley, Lauren, JoElle and the rest of the staff. Good review! I can relate to you on some of these. I do personally feel how it’s taught/coached is a big factor too. Even if a person doesn’t like a particular move or exercise doesn’t mean they can’t get good work from it. As long as they are able to perform it effectively and be efficient.
Jump on my class sometime. I coach these OTF workouts live 5 days a week! Most people/members love this more than the videos released from the corporate level. Same teaching and exercises, just a different level of engagement and vibe. Better experience in my opinion.

This is typical BULLSHIT! Taking something so simple and making it look as complicated as possible just to make money. HIIT is good, but it’s very simple technique….just choose your exercise and 45 seconds VERY intense and 45 seconds normal, repeat at least 3 times. You will get the same health benefit as a 1 hour normal training in just a few minutes. And you don’t need to spend $$$$$.
I hate the treadmill and refuse to do it. Is the elliptical an option?
