If you use the program correctly. After you hit your optimal weight, you go through transition and eventually don’t do the program anymore. It is made to create new habits. And have you live a healthier life style.
Today is my first day too…..its 4:20pm and I am getting hungry or I am just thinking about eating!!! I cant eat my green and lean meal for another 1-1/2 hour still….I am going to hang in there too…I have great coaches…and my grown daughter is sooo encouraging to me….I got ALOT of bars in my box…i want FOOOOODdD not bars…..but this might be the way…???
I have a friend who pushes this on everyone. So one mutual friend took the bait and hit this diet hard. He went into adrenal failure and almost died. The program damn near killed him. Glad I said NO NO NO to this crap.
I started optavia 3 weeks ago, my last day is this coming Sunday. I decided to give it a go because I’d be home all day because of covid and because I thought I would make an investment towards my health. First days were hell for me. I stayed on 5-and-1 these few weeks and I’m starting to open my eyes to how ridiculous this feels. Yes, I’ve lost weight, yes I feel better when I look in the mirror. But I hate how restrictive this DIET is. Incredibly unrealistic. I hate having to say no to beans, carrots, fruits, and other vegetables that I know are good for me. I miss eating dinner with my family. I feel ridiculous not being able to indulge not even in a cup of coffee. Apart from their bars, the rest of the food they send you is pretty bad-tasting. You can taste and feel the fake. They all have the same hint of fake taste. I am finishing this month because I did spend a lot of money on it. My coach even tried getting me to be a coach the first few days on the plan, which I said no to, in case that wasn’t clear. I would rather eat good food on my own, when I want to, the way I want to. If there’s one thing I learned while on this plan it is that I have enough will power. Now all I have to do is use this will power to eat a healthier, more complete diet. I can become healthier. But not with optavia. Thank you for your video. I wish I watched it before I gave them my money. P.S I only found out it was optavia until after I payed and received a confirmation email which that in itself should have been a red flag
You say that nothing is defined, however, everything is defined in both books you are given when you begin the PROGRAM! Also, it is NOT a diet it is a new healthier way of living. When you reach your optimal goal then you are able to up your nutritional amount. You should really check your facts! What you say is wrong. Additionally, if your in a place such as myself where you need help with losing weight and cooking healthy it is PERFECT!
Carbs are also bad for you by the way… check into all of the low and no carb diets… OptaVia is awesome!! I’ve no problem with wanting to eat more and also the lean and green is not the only meal. Again, do your research because you don’t have all the facts straight!
Wow! You know nothing about this program! Before you blast a program you should talk to a Optavia coach. This is not a diet and you are stuck that the fuelings are forever. Once they have achieved their optimal weight, clients are maintained out slowly back into the real world. The fueling are there to help the client get to a optimal weight as we are teaching them healthy habits. The small meals and you should know this as a dietician help control their blood sugar while maintaining lean healthy muscled and burning fat. THIS IS NOT A CALORIE DIET!!!! The fuelings that you are soooooo stuck on are only 25% of the program. THIS IS NOT A DIET, again! This is a lifestyle change. The other parts of the program are coaching, education and community. Optavia gives many tools that helps thier clients stay successful once they have gone back out to the real world. THAT IS WHAT IS MEANT BY LIFELONG TRANSFERMATION!!!! Also, you know nothing about what is in the fueling. They are the right amount of healthy fats, healthy CARBOHYDRANTS, and lean proteins. Clients don’t feel hungry or feel that they have brain fog like your were claiming on your video. Many client state that they feel more clear headed and have burst of energy. I feel if you are going to talk badly about a program, you should do much more than a quick google search! Maybe, try the program! This is very disappointing that a dietician would put this out there and would stop clients get the help they need. You must of lost clients to Optavia because of how easy and supportive it is. (UGLY TRUE MAYBE!!!) This video is reckless and irresponsible! If you would of done your reach right you would have found that more then half the coaches are doctors, nurses, and yes, dieticians. OH, yeah! All the studies were done and backed by John’s Hopkins!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjAJ_SdJgEI
I wish you nothing but the best and many next time you will do better research.
What a great accomplishment you have made! It takes a lot of courage and self-discipline to keep going. Mindset is one of the biggest things I teach to my clients when they are going into losing weight! I think it is easy to lose weight but keeping it off is the hard part because if you don’t change your mind the body change will only be temporary!
When going on Optavia, get in the Habits of Health book and workbook that you get….it’s a life changer, not just a diet!
I just watched your 5 week update video so it’s good to hear your thoughts after 1 year. I am not a fan of “diet foods” but I think it’s good to get something to kickstart the weight loss and kudos to you for using it for that.
It’s really interesting to hear your thoughts on this having tried it. I think anything where they force you to use their products only are more of a money maker than actually a ‘healthy lifestyle’ thing. I’ve tried some of those in the past and I think where you have the option to do your own cooking & as you said, make your own choices eating out are a better option.
I agree 100%, I’m on it now and I’m looking to lose weight, build metabolism for 3 months then tweet the fuel to a lifestyle fit for me. But in the long run eating a bunch snack bars is not forever.
My best friend is doing it now. What i find perplexing is that 75% of all the foods and bars are full of genetically modified soy, including the “Select” options. Well known now that soy is dangerous to health and GMO soy kills lab animals. I could piece my plan together with the non soy options, there are a few. A company that would use soy in this day and age tho…
Do you have nothing better to do? Honestly, this has helped so many ppl I personally know, are you trying to discourage people, that have changed their life around, what is your point, this has worked amazing for me! Of chorse your couldn’t eat that way, how much do you even need to loose? You’ve never even tried it LOL
U did digging? Did you actually talk to coaches, doesn’t seem like you know much! But the success I’ve seen in myself, family and friends says otherwise!! U seen like you have nothing better in your life to do!!
I totally disagree with your assessment. You do spend more money while you are on the weight loss part of the program but the whole point is to get you to transition and maintenance. At that point you aren’t eating 5 pre-packaged meals a day. You shift to 4&2 and then you can choose if you don’t want to purchase the fuelings any longer, there are other options. Listening to you, I am not sure if you did your homework while on plan. Dr. Andersons’ Healthy Habits book is an essential part of learning the program and what comes next and how to live your best healthy life. Congrats on your weight loss. For many people, they have tried so many programs and may have some success or may not but the health you gain on this program is totally worth it. I know my coach keeps bars and shakes on hand as her snacks for the day but otherwise eats healthy meals. For any program to be successful long term, you have to change your habits. You can have a holiday meal but that meal can’t turn into a week of holiday fun into a month of holiday parties. I have been on program for 6 months and am down 54#. In that 6 months, I took a 3 week vacation and did not stay on program. I let myself enjoy my meals but didn’t have dessert every day and skipped the bread. I gained 6# on vacation and lost it in 1 week going back on program. This health plan is sustainable and it works again and again.
This would so not work for me. Good it works for others though
I love this video and you totally convinced me to try this diet! You look amazing btw! Do you ever go off though.. as in, do you go out to eat for lunch or breakfast? Like eggs? Fruit? Or do you strictly stick to this?
Optavia is Medifast.
(Medifast renamed its community/coaching branch Optavia.)
It is a proven and established weight loss program.
I used it on my own, no coach, and lost my weight in two months. Walking keeps it off.
I disagree with so much in this video. She keeps saying it’s not possible for someone to eat low carb, your body is going to win in the long run, ect. This is a ridiculous statement. I eat low carbs right now, it’s absolutely possible. Tons of people are on paleo, or keto or just low carb diets. Of course, it’s possible to eat low carbs, what a weird thing of her to say.
I think it’s common sense that none of these fad diets are healthy long term. I would say use as a tool to kickstart weight loss while you also learn how to eat healthier. You cannot live on shakes and bars and as soon as you go off them you’ll gain the weight back. So use it to kickstart your weight loss and then adopt a healthy lifestyle of walking, fruits and veggies, a little protein and cut the junk food out. Much healthier in the long run!
Lol ur brain uses glucose, not prefers carbs and ur body can make glucose out of ketones.
Well the diet has been working great for my Pops so can’t say I agree with you. I’ll also be doing the diet soon
Yes, yes, yes!!!!! I started Optavia mainly to cheerlead my husband and to help him along he needs to lose quite a bit of weight; I do not. This is our fourth day, and I am DYING. All I really want to eat at this moment is one of the gorgeous apples sitting on my counter. Instead I have to wait until my next fueling…. I have worked so hard to eliminate all soy from my diet as well as my family’s, yet I find myself tangled up in this web of soy-filled fuelings. Not sure how much longer I can last, to be quite honest. Whole, real foods would be so much more satisfying than this pre-packaged mystery food.
this is a program for lazy people. you’re paying out the ass for snack bars and chips and powdered shakes. just go to the grocery store, get some clif bars and some fruit and veggies and make some smoothies for half the price and more nutrition. people are stupid as hell im sorry this isnt rocket science and the 5 and 1 thing is really unhealthy. you gotta be dragging ass by the middle of the day eating like that lmao
There’s no such thing as a sustainable diet plan. These types of plans are used as an intervention. A boot camp in a way. That’s how you need to look at it. It’s great if you want to see quick results. Psychologically speaking, that can be a great thing! That being said, you need an exit strategy. Don’t over complicate.
Best this to do is
1. drink a lot of water
2. whole food plant based diet (stop eating animal flesh, animal secretions, animal ovulation)
3. quit soda, added sugar, alcohol, cigarettes, and other obvious unhealthy stuff we shouldn’t do
4. exercise regularly
5. good sleep schedule
A toddler isn’t sitting at a desk working 8 hours a day. Also, when you go through menopause, your metabolism slows way down. This diet works for some people. Can’t put everyone in a box.
holy crap… MLM diet Coaches pushing chemical based foods.. running around like big shots OPTawhatever….. It’s as a bad as Arbonne
Love this video!! I think many of these people are missing the point. Yes, you can lose weight but in an unhealthy way and whenever you stop the weight will come back. I personally believe you need to educate yourself in the correct amount of good carbs, fats, and protein. People associate carbs with bread etc. but good carbs are veggies. You need to change your habits and learn to eat with real food!! Also with such low calories your body goes into starvation mode and you start to store fat!
Great video. Very informative and you are not the least bit annoying which I appreciate.:)
So what I’m hearing is we should eat tons of carbs, Aldi cereal and CAKE?
It looks like you found out a very limited amount of this small part of Optavia, the short extreme physical weight loss part. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Optavia coaches find out a lot about the uniqueness of each of their clients. They can’t really coach then one-way like on a YouTube video. You talk about you and your husband were you morbidly obese? There is a lot about Optavia you don’t know. “You can’t have birthday cake, you can’t have Thanksgiving, or barbecues” You’re kidding! I once said something like that, as a new Optavia client, and my coach disagreed, saying “Of course you have a life! Just don’t gorge yourself!” You have made some significant assumptions here. What are you selling? You sound like you think know the “right” way. It appears that the body-mind connection is not your focus, it’s the “diet” aspect instead. It’s easy to be “right” in that context. There is much more to Optavia than you have been able to find out. Best wishes to you.
awesome video! i love watching what i eat in a days. you did a great job. i subscribed to your channel! please do the same and also check out my what i eat in a day on my channel!
I’d never Defend Optavia (I don’t know them), but you seem to be misinformed. “Eat what you want” is not a good advice for obese people. You also don’t need calories if you’re obese. Not even one.
For a dietician, you are missing/ignorant of some vital information about human physiology and brain function.
If you’re planning on loosing weight, this will work. It doesn’t make sense for you to say “I like carbs” Bruv go eat spaghetti then and don’t do this program lmfao your body turns carbs to sugar literally instantly that’s why you like carbs your brain releases dopamine and you’re satisfied with it because it’s addictive. The human brain doesn’t know the difference between actually eating sugar and breaking down the carbs and turning them in to sugar. That and the 5 in 1 is supposed for only to get to your desired weight and then you’re supposed to gradually get off of it.
I saw that 800-1000 calories and was like WTAF?! This is definitely an MLM, and anyone could lose a ton of weight if they only consumed a toddler’s diet! The price tag is ridiculous, too!
I follow the plan and I’ve lost 17#,I don’t get hungry like you say and there is plenty of success examples of Optivia.
I know several people who are on it and they look amazing and the health benefits they experience out weigh going back to their former western diet, they really are healthy, lean and muscle defined.
The worst over priced program I ever seen in my life. Let’s pay $418 a month to starve all day eating what tastes like cardboard with no nutritional value.
A cult who screws over people by not refunding their returns when the customer is unsatisfied.
I did the program for few months and I never felt so tired, and ill in my life. Headaches, stomach aches, and I lost so much hair, I’d cry in the shower, chunks coming out. Once I stopped the program I gained all the weight back, and more because my body was just starved.
I lose weight by eating small portions and not over indulge on carbs as i stay active.
Those who are defending this cult…. good luck to you. Losing 6 pounds in 3 days is very alarming.
I have been on the plan for a couple of weeks now. True to what was said here, the measly few calories allowed is not enough. I have learned that steady weight loss at a pound a week is healthy. I lost almost 5 pounds in 5 days! I have had low blood sugar, I need at least 10 hours of sleep, and have had dizzy spells. There is some merit to the program. I believe in eating balanced, smaller meals, more often, and controlling portion sizes. This is not a sustainable program, not to mention it is EXPENSIVE!!!!!
Whither you belive Octavia works or not isn’t really the issue here, its about being disciplined. Not everyone is the same, everybody has a different body type. I have a friend who lost 50 pounds in 4 months on Octavia, which is amazing, i also have A TON of friends who have lost weight doing other diets. Talk to your doctor, or a nutritionist and figure out whats best for you and exercise.
It actually does work… I was on it. Lost 50 lbs. You transition off the program and eat normally but it takes time.
I just started this diet, an the food it give you filling is only the first day that is a little uncomfortable,. But yes I have concerns about the ingredients becouse they actually give more energy and I take all the vitamins that I find, and never has given me this lift that I feel now.
We have all the extra calories in the fat we’ve bulked up. You need help, IDK where you got your alleged dietician certificate. Online? Weekend program? Just wanted to talk some shit since that’s the theme of this channel. I have felt the best I have ever felt in my life on this program. Enough said.
Oh my goodness gracious $400 a month I will stick to IF. Thanks for this review
Optavia or Medifast (same diet) has been doctor recommended for 40 years.
I’ve known several people who lost a bunch of weight on this…then gained it all back. Strict diets like this don’t help you form sustainable healthy habits that fit your lifestyle. And like Colleen said, any diet that tells you not to eat nutritious fruits and veggies should be a red flag. Losing weight really quickly does not mean that a diet is healthy for you!
These comments make me so sad to see how brainwashed people are with toxic diet trends. This video is very informative. Just because you are losing weight doesn’t mean you are healthy or doing it in a healthy manner. I’ve lost over 40lbs in about 10 months because I watch my macros, workout, & drink water. Also it’s a MLM scam so you already know the whole company is not the greatest to be taking any type of advice off of.
The food (fuelings) are disgusting, I felt deprived all the time. Its also MLM so the coaches just want to sell you the products. The other thing I noticed is that the coaches never stop eating the food because once they do they gain the weight back. Its also filled with SOY.
I respectfully DISAGREE with this review:
If you were able to drop 40 pounds in a few months, WHAT’S the problem?
It’s not the plan’s fault that you can’t limit your calorie intake, after the plan did it’s job.
This plan of about 500 calories (5 fuelings) one about every 2 hours has worked like magic for me.
I’m not hungry, grumpy or feel in any way deprived.
I have my whole day’s food with me, so I’m not hunting like a crazy person to shove something in my mouth, which always ultimately leads to pizza.
No sugar ups and downs for me.
I also add a egg white omelet, to my day, which is allowed and enjoyed.
It’s only been 3 weeks, my shape is coming back and it’s all great.
I am not as young as Bethany, so I have a lot more world experience.
Loosing weight, for a 60 year old active woman, is not easy.
Take responsibility young lady.
*By the way, I don’t find it to be expensive. I would have paid anything for a plan that helped me get to my goal.
I spend more a lot more than $12.50 a day plus a salad and some egg whites. I live in New York.
I suggest trying this plan if you’ve tried everything and failed.
Very very little self-control is required since the foods are set-up for success.
Self-control in life is necessary I suggest everyone try some:)
Thin people don’t eat the same way that overweight people do. It’s fact. Learn how.
so,, some tricks….I bake the potatoes, both sweet and white in muffin pan..they texture is better. / I found baking a bunch in advance on Sunday really helps. Muffins/potatoes/cookies and brownies…
There is a 3 and 3 plan after the 5 and 1 which allows you to eat 3 balanced meals… plus three snacks. The five and one plan is just until you reach your desired weight.
Nope, you do not know what you are talking about. No way you can compare Aldi cereal to an Optavia product. I’ve been on 5&1 for one year. I have been the healthiest I’ve been in my 48 years. My blood work proves that I am healthier than ever. This works, backed by science. Loads of coach and community support. You lady, are wrong!
I’m so sorry…as someone that has had over 100 lbs. to lose, I can tell you that I do not understand what normal eating looks like. While I understand that OPTAVIA 5&1 doesn’t seem sustainable; it’s created to get people down to a health weight. What I learned from my first week is that my portion sizes were so out of control. I’m going on week 2 of the OPTAVIA 5&1 plan and I can say I am not hungry and I do not feel deprived. I believe this is because the fuelings provided are a really good mix of what my body needs in order to sustain itself and burn the fat my body has in order to provide my body with the energy it needs. I have not had cravings. While in quarantine I don’t have to think about going out to eat or parties. In order to enjoy the parties, holidays, etc. I will need to make a decision to go “off” plan and then get right back on or when I go “off” plan, choose the healthy choices I am learning when creating my lean & green meals.
Omg, do all of your research first. for those who need to lose weight and are trying to find something that works, please don’t be discouraged by this woman. Optavia/Medifast puts you into ketosis, so 80-100 g of carbs is perfect. I absolutely do not crave carbs on this diet and rarely feel hungry, I have to make myself eat. I need to lose over 100lbs and this is working for me. Do what works for you. I’m no, when we are trying to lose weight, we can’t eat cake or $1 cereal!
I COMPLETELY agree. I did the program for one month. It is not sustainable. I’ve had similar results eating real food.
Super overdramatic for not even trying it. I lost 35 pounds on it and wasn’t as hard as you think. So eating butter and bacon all day with keto is healthier than optavia? The food has lots of vitamins and probiotics. They are called fuelings not meals. They keep your blood sugar in check to eat 2 hours a day. You have no idea what you’re talking about this is a stupid video.
I can’t believe people are actually willing to pay a lot of money for a box of processed junk food.
Awesome! Congratulations on losing 60 total pounds! I’m in week 3 of the program…I know I have a long way to go but I am enjoying the food and program so far:)
Hi Colleen! I appreciate you sharing your opinions as a dietician. I am trying to get a well rounded view from different skilled professionals before I decide to become a coach for Optavia (seems the opinions way heavily on both sides, which is understandable).
Personal experience: I am 25, have lost 110 pounds on Optavia and have never in my life had such a healthy relationship with food, viewing it as something I can both enjoy and say no to without it being “scary”. (The fuelings have actually cut my crazy cravings/pantry visits and yes, I do have cupcakes at birthday parties but I know that may not be the case for everyone). My parents, in their 60s, also cut some meds and inflammation and surprised their doctors after being on the program for a few months. My Optavia health coach is also super pumped about me adding in the other delicious fruits and vegetables we can’t currently have, once I go to the maintenance portion of the program which the (hopefully healthy) restriction is what I’ve always seen as the point… provided that this program is meant as a journey TO maintenance/healthy eating and to, well, many of the things that you mentioned, which is kinda cool.
But I want to ask about your opinion on actually getting there… One dietician I talked to shared a helpful word on medically necessary diets and intuitive eating. I think its helpful for those who *medically need some sort of restrictive eating, after or during working on his or her relationship with food and was just wondering if you could share your opinion on what it does look like for someone who is in need of food restrictions for medical reasons to get to a healthy place. I love that you don’t want people to hide and actually get what their body NEEDS but one gap I have a hard time with is realistically helping those who live in such pain and are in need of serious change without having the mentality that restrictions are always bad (do you think mindset plays in to it??) Anyways would love your opinion if you’re willing to take the time. I know there’s no easy button.
My wife and I are on this plan and it works. Would it work for everyone? I don’t think so. I was almost 300 lbs and I’m down 30 lbs, but we’re using this as a stepping stone. You just have to trust the program and wanting to make a change in life style.
Super helpful, thank you! My insurance offers a discount for this, I had never heard of it. Doesn’t really sound like the right option for me though. I’m looking for a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
On a side note, it was weird watching you…my own facial expressions are so similar to you I felt like I was watching myself lol! Thanks for taking the time to share this.:)
Low carb ( eliminate sugar and Fructose) high good fat after 50+ years has worked best no denying anything except bad fat and sugar/ carbohydrates. Works a treat. Enjoy Life even wine & full fat cheese in moderation. Happy days. No more medications. More energy and rarely hungry during the day. If hungry I eat. So very, very simple.
Man, this sounds a little hard for someone who likes main course meals a lot hahaha
My Uncle was captured by the Nazi’s in WW2 and sent to a forced labor camp. He was forced to work 15 hours per day and the Gestapo fed him a biscuit and broth twice per day. When he was liberated from the Stalag, he was 85 pounds at 6 feet tall. The lesson? Starvation will cause weight loss. Being hungry is not happiness.
I have a friend who lost around 40. She is so afraid of gaining the weight back, she still eats their soy bars instead of food. To stay really thin, you can’t eat much. She will go on candy binges and gain 5 pounds and then get back on the diet bars to lose it. Lose and gain lose and gain. She also refuses to eat fruit cause it has sugar. She leads an obsessed lifestyle.
My wife has lost 40 lbs in 4 months. She handles stress better and has signed up 6 friends. Yes it’s MLM but, what isn’t? You’re not a dietician. This video is ridiculously misinforming.
Well it works and just because you think you know something about nutrition you do not understand the plan.
The diet industry loves it when you waste your money on programs like this. They like it when you believe the marketing nonsense that eating six meals a day is a “healthy habit“ Eating low fat is also unnecessary and keeps you hungry. It is completely unnecessary to depend on this program its pre-packed foods and eating six times a day! The one meal that you eat on your own in this program is perfectly fine but why don’t you just eat like that every meal and not be afraid of moderate portions of healthy fats and only eat 2-3 times a day! This will keep your hunger under control, you body nourished and you won’t suffer. Just follow a keto-based meal plan based on real whole organic foods and you will lose just as much weight or more without suffering. You will hunger will go away, you will not be depended on costly products or be a slave to meal prep. You will eat fewer calories over time and your body will naturally adapt to fat as fuel (that is your own stored body fat). Your digestive health will improve by not over working it all day. Or you can keep wasting your money. The choice is yours. Just google Dr Eric Berg DC and Dr Ken Berry MD. Best of luck to all of you!
It has come to my attention that there has been some harassing behavior in the comments of this video recently. Please keep the comments kind and respectful! This video is about my personal experience with the Optavia program and I hope it is a helpful piece of information to take into consideration, but mine is certainly not the only perspective. You are free to disagree but it is not okay to engage in bullying, harassment, or unkind interactions. If I see that I will block the offending user. And if you notice it, please feel free to comment on this comment and tag me so that I can handle it. Thank you for keeping this a safe space!
Not even half way through your video and you sound ridiculous and No your body does not need carbs. I’m completely satisfied. You sound very ignorant talking about this
I love that you said it helped you mentally. Did you stay in the Lifebook?
Thank you for your video. I was considering signing up but think I will stick to my nutrisystem plan! It is half the cost the weight is coming off slower but I would rather do it this way PLUS I can maintain this lifestyle of eating. I can’t eat 5 small snacks a day with one meal. That’s insane
I was skeptical when I first started it but I dropped 25 pounds last year and have kept the weight off *which was all I needed to lose as I weighed 200, and I’m 5’10). And it’s much more than just weight loss as they provide you with the tools and resources to support you. (And no I’m not a coach nor do I work for this company, I’m just a grateful customer.)
Yes, I believe this is a good program. The only thing is you do need to have money. And I believe that I will have to quit the program. Good luck. God bless and love to all.
The optivia drones flocked here to give you negative reviews for speaking the truth. Thanks for shedding light on this starvation plan.
I am on maintenance on Weight Watchers, but would like to loose about 10 more pounds. Do you think this product would work for that if followed up with WW to sustain it?
I would have loved to hear you talk about the other parts of the program like the Habits of Health and Living a Longer and Healthier Life Book.
Interesting! You made it look really good. Today is day one for me and I am unsure if I can make this work. I had the chocolate smoothie for breakfast and the Chicken & vegetable soup for lunch (taste??). Its only 12:30 and I am hungry. But, I am going to hang in there as long as possible. Thank you for showing me your dinner, I cant wait for my smoked salmon salad tonight!:-)
So what plan do you recommend. Please post specific information like optavia provides. If 2 lbs per week is a safe rate, isn’t that 1000 calories less per day? So if 2000 calories per day is maintenance, then 1000 per day sounds right, right?
You have obviously never tried this program. I have been on it for a year and a half and am down 180 lbs from my highest weight. At first I was skeptical at seeing the total calories, having tried low calorie diets in the past and failed at them. This one, however, is different. You eat every 2-3 hours so you don’t really have a chance to get hungry, and the fuelings have a great balance of nutrients plus vitamins and minerals, so comparing a $3 fueling to cheaper boxed cereal is really not a fair comparison because you don’t get anywhere close to the same level of nutrition. If you add in the fact that you don’t buy as many groceries, and in my case don’t stop for fast food any more, my monthly food bill actually went down. Eating one meal a day that you prepare yourself is a great way to teach portion control and good food choices while still providing the convenience of pre-packaged bars and shakes for the rest of the day.
The consumption of 800-1000 calories is only meant for the weight-loss phase. If you don’t have weight to lose, pick another program. If you do, burning your own fat makes up the difference. So saying you are only eating enough calories to sustain a toddler is not a valid argument a toddler is growing. In my case, I have plenty of stored energy in the form of fat and need to burn it to become healthy. After the first 3-4 days of adjustment to the program, I have not been hungry.
One amazing benefit you didn’t mention is how eating small meals every 2-3 hours helps regulate your blood sugar. I went from pre-diabetic to normal blood sugar pretty quickly and it has remained solidly in the normal range. I am off most of my medications. I have tons more energy than I ever did on any other low-calorie diet or even the non-dieting phases of my life when I was not eating healthy. The fuelings have enough carbs to avoid the keto brain-fog, so even though the lean and green meal is very low carb, the whole diet has just the right amount.
And you didn’t even mention the other parts of the program such as the educational materials that help you transform your mind as well as your body, or the community support, or the personal coach that is included with the program.
I lost 100 pounds in 6 months on optavia last year!! I ate out 6 times a month, enjoyed my holidays, and so on. You’re not supposed to but I did. I took three months off to maintain and eat regular but healthy food. I just started again 3 weeks ago and I’m already down 15 pounds! Low carb is the way to go. Some people can eat a lot of carbs with body types like the woman in this video. I have had trouble with my weight since the third grade. If I eat more than 130 total carbs a day I am gaining weight. Optavia is 80-100 total carbs a day which is a lot compared to more extreme options like keto. Also fruit and certain veggies are higher in carbs which is why they suggest in the weight loss phase you don’t eat them. This is just common sense lol although I still eat berries and oranges. I don’t know everything about optavia but it worked for me after nothing else did. I honestly had a hard time getting all my food in. It’s so filling once you get past the first week. Plus I know I can transition back into normal healthy eating once I’m done☺️
Have you tried to look up snacks that are comparable to the ones OPTAVIA provides?…
Mallorie you have really got me excited about the program again. I love your videos and ideas since I was getting bored eating the normal way and I love how you mix up stuff instead of eating how you think (for example brownie fueling at lunch, or as a shake) instead of just after dinner. Thanks for getting me going again! HOw much have you lost on the program?
It is important for anyone viewing this video to do their own fact-checking because this review contains incorrect interpretations, out and out lies about the program and negates the fact that it was co-founded by a critical care doctor who’s worth checking out: Dr. Wayne Scott Anderson. Then I would challenge you to check out Ms. Christensen’s credentials.
Thanks for the review. Just watched their webinar and it’s crazy low on calories. I can foresee that it will burn into our muscle mass as a result.
Hun the music in background is so distracting, but you are very well spoken.
What’s your motive in bashing something that is healthy and works and that you don’t understand. Sorry Lady, you got this all wrong.
I’ve lost 48 pounds of fat not muscle on the Optavia program and have kept it off. Scientific education is a part of the training as well as habit assessment. Everyone pays the same for the food whether they are a coach or not. Coaches can earn money by helping people. You can earn money by making YouTube videos. There’s nothing satanic in this company. It’s not a cult or occult. They don’t do anything in secret. Advertising a health program or selling food is a healthy and helpful thing to do. This program is helping people.
You do not ever get a discount as a Coach! Everyone pays the same price! It is not a MLM company!
You are very misinformed! It works and it is awesome! Ask yourself how has what you’ve tried in the past worked and when you went back to your regular eating did you maintain or gain?
Seriously.? I disagree. I took Nutrition as part of my Gerontology Certification program. Yes, you need more calories to MAINTAIN your weight but to cut down to LOSE weight. That is BASIC science. Als
I did a lot of research and let me tell you where I’m at in my health. I could probably stand to lose some extra calories even if it’s the recommended calories. I’m 5’4” and almost 200lbs… I’ve always struggled with my weight and I find that by consuming too many carbs the bad and the good I gain weight. Plus, snacking is my weakness… and that usually consists of something totally unhealthy… So my goal here is to start a good practice and get back to the weight I was before I lost control and just didn’t care anymore. I’ve gone to a dietician and y’all are skinny mini’s so you have no idea how us more plump people feel… So although your video was informative… I just see a skinny girl talking ♀️♀️
Hi, I’m new to Optavia. I love your videos. Question: What’s your favorite way to prepare your shakes? Thanks,
This makes me sad you tell people they need “Carbs”’for their brains whyyyyy do you encourage that. Starch and cans are so bad for you. This is so sad. Sugar is the enemy. Think what you want. Shame shame shame on you!
I’m curious if you did a proper transition off of the program? I imagine that if you just stopped the program cold turkey, you might gain most of it back? The point of coaches and the program is to help you transition off properly and learn proper eating habits after you’ve lost the weight. I don’t think they want you to do 5&1 for the rest of your life….
Hi! I’m on my 2nd day and today was definitely harder than yesterday. So far I like it. Thanks for the videos
WRONG!! It’s a shame that people listen to this and miss the health opportunities available. This program is evidence based backed by over 30 years of National Institute of Health NIH studies by Mayo Clinic, Ohio University and Cleveland clinic. It’s partnered with John’s Hopkins University Hospital and recommended by over 20,000 physicians across the country. Bottom line…Please don’t listen to this uninformed “Dietician”
I just started this diet!! The first week I had the Fourth of July and I ate poorly that day. I had a sub sandwich tacos, pizza, cheesecake, and beer Lol. I still lost 13 pounds that week. I’m now two weeks in and down 17 pounds. Super excited! It is absolutely a short term weight loss program meant to teach you portion control, regular control over your eating habits, and how to make lean meals. As a few stated it’s not meant for life they have transition programs and what not. I honestly don’t know much about all that. I think it’s really similar to keto. I’m going to use it for six months then transition to a healthy diet. I’ve found some amazing lean and green meals like crock pot pizza, veggie taco skillet, Big Mac salad, bacon cheeseburger casserole. My mom kept her weight off I’m hoping I’m just as successful!
Ohhhh, the eat less diet, that’s different!!It seems like there are a lot of sweet “fuelings”. Brownies, shakes and then 1 decent meal for dinner. My palate is more savory than sweet.
I’ve been on Optavia off and on for over 6 months and lost 40 pounds so far. (I am allergic to something in Optavia foods, so I have been tinkering around trying to find out what it is…possibly monk fruit.) When I have gone off of Optavia food, I switch to regular foods in my pantry and fridge that are similar in nutritional values to Optavia. The result has been continued weight loss, but at a slower pace. I think the Optavia plan is great to help a person get into a routine of eating a different way and to get a boost on weight loss. Once a person gets to their goal weight, they are supposed to slowly add normal healthy foods back into their diet. At times when I go off of Optavia food, I watch the scale closer and eat in a very similar pattern as Optavia fuelings. I don’t even crave fast food and sugary foods anymore. I have had some similar thoughts as you, but feel good with my decision to try to stay on Optavia or mimic it as much as possible with regular grocery store items. Any diet plan will be a failure if the person isn’t committed to permanent or long term change.
Ok, I’m on it. I’ve lost 45 pounds in 3 months. It works. But…. You are correct in that it is expensive and not sustainable if you are not a person who can live forever off bars or shakes. My wife is a coach, so I can’t exactly bad mouth it, but I can tell you some of what I have found. Optavia is a low-carb, low calorie diet at its core. The five “fuelings” are about 110 calories each, and the “lean and green” is about 300. That’s around 850 calories a day. There is no adjustment for men or due to start weight, so large people and men lose very quickly compared to people wanting to lose just a few pounds. Essentially, if you can find a well balanced protein bar that matches pretty close the nutritional info on an Optavia fueling, you can do the diet on your own. A few things I have noticesd on the diet; a lot of the things you are not supposed to eat are in their products, and the “green” doesn’t apply to their prepacked meals. Read the label on that Optavis fueling. You will find carbs and sugar, 4 grams in a lot of them, sometimes more. Get one of their Flavors of Home meals, its tiny! Now this is supposed to replace a lean and green, a meal that is usually 6-7 oz of chicken or fish and cups of salad greens. The meal is 10 oz. While there are a lot of vegetables on the ingredients, they are processed and there is nowhere near the volume they call for in a lean and green. Also, the meat is processed and not quite 5 oz. My point being, they have trouble practicing what they preach. If you are doing it, I have this advice for eating out, do the best you can, you will be a lot happier. avoid pasta and potatoes, ask for no bread, and stick to unsauced grilled or baked lean meats like chicken, salmon or sirloin steak, and get veggies and a salad with no croutons. I personally don’t stress about the salad having cheese or onions and get my dressing on the side. It may not be perfect, but it won’t destroy your diet and you can relax a lot more while eating.
I’m on the diet rn (short term only doing 6 weeks) I’m not a crazy worshipper of the program or anything and I don’t plan to do this for long term. Anyways I just wanted to address the comment about “you’ll be running to your pantry” and tbh I thought I would be me but that hasn’t been my experience. I’ve been pretty full and satisfied with the fuelings and I even have a hard time having all 5 feelings because I’m already full by the time I get to the fifth fueling. Not a crazy dietician or anything but just want to offer my experience.
Optivia is a expensive starvation diet that is bad for you do your research before you go on the pyramid scheme!! A Joke
Hi Colleen, Can you please do research on “Shaklee, #1 Natural Nutrition Company in the U.S.? Let me start you with this first: http://www.landmarkstudy.com This is a “Peer Review Journal Study”! I won’t do anything without the company having many, many Peer Review Journal Studies since I come from a family of Science. Please get back to me with your results! Thank you! Great Video!
I lost weight too but on Shaklee with approximately 1500 calories per day. Walking 60 minutes per day and eating a lot of fruit and veggies from my own veggie garden! I lost the “Fat”, not the “Muscle” since fat burns 2 calories per pound of fat and muscle burns 50 calories per pound of muscle! I’d rather keep the muscle on my body and lose the fat and eat all the “Right” nutrition that my body needs! My body after 6 weeks started to lose weight but my body before that started to tone, it was amazing!
I had all the energy I needed and “I Felt Great for the first time in my life”! All my blood tests now come back normal and my Vitamin D3 is really Great! My cholesterol dropped from 286 to 209 and I lost 16 lbs over a 3 month period which I went from a size 12 to a size 8! That was super in itself and 9 years later, I’m still at my size 8! I still grow my veggie garden and eat a lot from it. Lean meat only about 3 times a week.
Has anyone asked if Octavia has any “Peer Review Journal Studies” done by Universities and have gone through the “Peer Review Association” screening? I’d like to see them!
You see, my son published a paper when he was in college and they only allowed him to do the research from “Peer Review Studies” no other, or it couldn’t be published! That’s when I learned that if a study isn’t Peer-Reviewed, you can’t trust it! Cathy
Hi, thanks for the review. I just started it a month ago and have lost 20. Did you do the maintenance? It is very expensive for me as well, but it’s just me. I’m wondering if I can find these shakes & bars in the grocery store. I do cheatI figure it’s better than eating cake & pizza everyday. You are easy to listen to so I’ll follow younot sure what your regular channel is about.
That is awesome! I didn’t even make it through the first week and I cheated . I was so hungry and the weekend killed me. What can you recommend?
I really wish I had uncover the “Yamzοkο Weebly” (Google it) years ago. I shed 12 pounds in 3 weeks up to now. However I exercise once or twice a week, and also eat right. The results shown to me is astounding. I certainly recommend the item, hope it works as excellent for you simply because it really does for me..
The 5 in 1 plan is not meant forever it’s only temporary. They have the 3 on 3 and they have the 4 and 2 which still involve the bars tho
So there seems to be confusion on this to take most obvious clients are also coaches. That’s not accurate. I just became a coach actually but I’ve been on the program for six months and lost about 60 pounds. I’m also checking in with my doctor on a regular basis and getting blood work done. My bad cholesterol has gone down quite a bit. My fats in my blood cells have gone down a ton. And according to her my kidney and liver function are perfect. I am certainly not done the plan perfectly,But I would say overall a much healthier than I was before I started it. Now is it the best thing out there? I have no idea. Do other things work and possibly work better? I’m sure they do. This works well for me because I have someone that’s unjudgementally checking in on me every week. Also, the five and one plan is not permanent. Some people are on it for a few weeks some people have to be on it for a few months it varies. And then you change where you will be eating a lot more stuff but you’ll have worked on habits to do that. I have yo-yoed my entire life and so far this is worked best for me.
Is almond butter allowed on plan? I want to make sure I’m not breaking any rules!! Also do you know if halo top ice cream is allowed?
Wow, extreme reaction from a little “research”. Colleen doesn’t like it because it challenges her nutrition training. OptaVia is specifically set up for low calories but balanced nutrition. It’s not a diet. It’s a phased process, so the calories and meals increase when you transition to maintenance. The whole idea is to create habits of health long term.
I’ve been on Optavia for 3 weeks lost 20lbs, I have no energy and brain fog, plus I get heartburn from the fuelings while some taste terrible. Even though I have great weight lost I think it has dropped down at an unhealthy rate. I hate this diet because I miss my Fruits & Vegetables! I miss real food that I can cook therefore, I am going to transition to Weight Watchers where I can eat real food again and have the energy to exercise.
This is soooooo helpful I’m looking into optiva for short term forsure!!! So glad you made this video!
No matter how you lose weight if you go right back to how you used to eat you will gain the weight back. If you stop the changes you are making now you will gain it back too. I lost 80 lbs six years ago. It is still gone. But you have to learn about and stay on the maintenance plan. You don’t have to eat like that on the maintenance plan.
I’m curious too about how you felt physically. I did Nutrisystem several years ago for about two months. I lost like 30 pounds but all I ever did was sleep. Pretty much I’d eat all of my meals at work and then sleep until it was time to go to work again because I didn’t have the energy to do anything. Half the time I was falling asleep at work too! and I was allllways hungry.
You mentioned the expense being excessive for the program. Did you take into account that this replaced eating out as well as other meals and groceries you would have paid for otherwise?
Thank you for this video! I find it interesting that there are actually trolls on this page questioning credentials, Colleen is a registered dietician. I think a person with the educational background and relevant credentials has more weight than a fake health coach. I have a scientific and health care education with credentials plus over 20+ years in my profession and worked very closely with dietitians along with PTs, OTs, and so on…..people who go to school and learn the fundamentals around biology, physiology, chemistry, and more plus education and loathes of practicum hours on whatever discipline they plan to pursue. Or you affiliate with a MLM company, use their materials, their products and advise people on their health and easy, you are a “health coach”. When you need liability and malpractice insurance and you have to take tests to update a real piece of paper that confirms you can practice in a certain field, come challenge Colleen. Until then, maybe take some of her advice, it is true and SCARY anyone thinks 1000 calories is healthy, hearing that is part of this program just makes me cringe. And by the way, if you severely limit calorie intake which is what this program does, you are definitely going to lose weight no matter what diet you are on. Is it healthy, not by a mile.
Do you have more savory recipes as sweets are not my favorite?
Hi I am curious because you are not suppose to use the fueling for ever and I was taught how to replicate them. you basically learn how to eat 100 calories for each fueling. I no longer order the fuelings because I am at my optimal weight. Also you can do a 4-2 program or 3-3 program
I have actually used this particular “Yamzοkο Weebly” (Google it) for a couple of days by now and also the final results are wonderful. They give me a lot of strength and also curb my desire for foods, however I do NOT quit whenever they wear off which I enjoy, and so they don`t cause me to feel jittery. I haven`t changed other things I am doing and have lost 7 pounds..
As a dietitian I feel like you should be a little better at researching programs like this. This program is not just a “diet” yes you begin that way, but it doesn’t just end once the weight it off. The program encompasses mind, body, and soul. There are not definitions because YOU are the one that chooses what the definition means to you. You are missing SO MUCH information! SO MUCH. The 5&1 plan is for people who are needing to lose weight (people who eat McDonalds, chips/cookies, etc on the daily). It trains you and your body to get in a low-glycemic rhythm and fueling are made with enough vitamins and minerals to keep you full and healthy until you are ready to move on to a “healthy lifestyle” plan. You stay full and focus on the 5&1 plan as you learn about the importance of water, sleep, mindset, grocery shopping, etc. Once you are at your healthy weight (based off science like BMI ect, and what you believe is your healthy weight) then you begin to add more calories, veggies, fruits, grains, fats, etc. There are two LARGE books you get with program, 1 as a journal and 1 as a guide to teach you about healthy habits. The 5&1 is just the beginning, but it goes so much further than that.
I’m only down 13.9 in 2 months i stayed on plan, and drank tons of water so not sure why I’m not getting better results
Until you have gone through the process you shouldnt speak on this food program. I have been on this now to get my stubborn weight off and I am never hungry. The lean & green is delish and filling. I would like to have a conversation with you.
FAAABULOUS video! Thank GOD I found this. My friend is having a “phone coaching session “ with me Friday I figured the fees would be astronomical! Thanks so much for the update!
Optavia is awesome! And the “diet” as you call it is just part of the program. There is so much MORE to it and it is changing lives for the better! I am still on my journey and have lost 34 pounds but what’s more important is that I had a dietician AND doctor siked about it! I have 2 autoimmune diseases and diabetic and I have gone from 11 meds to 2. AND in 3 months I have had 1 flare that was a 3 on a 1 to 10 scale! This is why it is so important for people to get ALL the information not just what’s on a website!!!
Great Video, today is my first day as well and I have been researching different menus to stay motivated. You made it seem so simple. Thank you
I’d break it down you needed atleast 64oz of water if you do a 16.9 oz bottle think it’s 3-4 of those a day may make it not seem as bad. I love water lol
I am genuinely curious for an unbiased review of Optavia. I was hoping for something more about the quality of the fuelings or a review of user’s experiences, but I did not get that. I have been on Opatvia for a few months now and honestly, I love it. All of the critiques listed here are based on theory and yes, looking at it from her perspective, a lot of what she is saying makes sense. However, my experience has been completely different. Number 1: I hate calling it a diet, even though it’s the appropriate word. Diet means ”pattern of eating”, but now it usually means a short term pattern of eating that is designed to help you lose weight. Optavia is a diet in the true sense of the word. I call it a nutritional plan, though, so I don’t have to constantly explain it to people. The small 100 calorie ”meals” are actually called ”fuelings”, which I find very appropriate. The amount of calories eaten during a day does seem crazy low! However, after a few days of adjustment and generally feeling like crap, I feel MORE energized on the 5 & 1 plan than I did before. Is it enough to exercise and be active? No, and in fact, you are told not to exercise for the first few weeks, which actually makes this program a lot more accessible for a broader range of people. As for price….it does seem that the feelings are expensive. What other program provides 75% of your food, plus a coach and community, for less than $500 a month? I was easily spending $600 a month on my unhealthy eating habits before the program. I will keep looking for some legit negative critiques of Optavia. As for being hungry, I am rarely hungry on Opatvia. Eating 6 times a day really does help, and most of the feelings are tasty and convenient. And no, I am not an Optavia coach, and I was not asked to post this by anyone affiliated with Optavia. I just want viewers to know what my personal experience has been.
I’m inclined to believe her over people that have tried it and lost weight. People do Keto and lose weight but it is not good for your health in the long term according to many nutritionists and this plan reminds me of Keto.
btw girl I think amberlynn reid was talking shit about you in her newest video
Medifast (NASDAQ: MED) Part II Optavia Products Are Causing Illness: Irrefutable Evidence, By Gotham City Research.
I have tried this and its dangerous. Read this report before making a decision.
I’m down 40 pounds so far doing the keto diet,I feel great and my energy is through the roof and best of all it cost me ZERO DOLLARS!
She is brutal against Optavia. I agree that the Optavia meals are too expensive but the concept of losing weight by cutting calories does work.
I have realized more than enough times that I don’t believe in diets. I mean everyone is allowed to try and experiment with methods and yes they do work for a great many people. My attitude is really about not what you eat…it’s really about how much of it you eat in a meal. My main challenge is eating only one portion at a meal because I get real hungry real quick. However, I have been told that reason why that happens is because I eat too fast and I need to slow down my intake of food. Also exercise is something that I have been lacking for about 2 years because I use to be a gym rat but, job changes and time restrictions have really taken their toll. I may not look it but, there was a time where I was classified as borderline obese and I was not happy with that (not a believer in body positivity right here). No carbs and no sugar I don’t believe in at all. It’s just for me finding a balance, counting your calories and getting in exercise. As soon as I becoming a home owner I am going to be investing in equipment finally get back into cardio training and muscle building as I use to. I am certain I can get back to the weight I was at before I changed my career.
I would love for Dr Wayne Anderson to give u a health assessment. You do not have all your facts straight.
All these people in the comments could’ve bought granola bars, shake mixes, and whatever else this program sends them for way cheaper. They just don’t want to believe that they wasted their money
There was a book written called Diets Don’t Work. What happened to eating a balanced diet and exercising? Of course that takes discipline and effort, but I’d think it’d be better and cheaper than a diet or meal plan.
aaamen, yep. i got blackouts the first week on the program. it’s more than just a fraud, it’s evil
Thank you for this video! Years ago, I was recruited for this program by a friend’s parents. They had lost a lot of weight and shifted their lifestyle which seemed great. After yo-yo dieting through college and feeling obese with 10-20 pounds that seemed like I couldn’t lose, losing weight in a more ‘scientific’ way was very appealing. My issue with the program as you touched on is that there isn’t (or wasn’t at the time) ED risk screening. The extreme caloric restriction & food rules tipped me from a mild to medium toxic relationship with food into a full blown eating disorder. This program cost me a lot of money for their “meals” and even more of my physical and mental health. I’m almost 10 years in recovery but so frustrating to see this program still being promoted.
I just got off the vegan diet a year ago. I lost waaaayy too much weight on that diet & burned through my reserves to the point I felt like death despite eating every HOUR towards the end. My hair fell out, period was showing signs it would stop soon too, my gums bled, I was always bloated then I got 3 cavities! When I first went vegan I was rapidly losing weight but I felt great bc I was burning my own fat as energy. I’m normally 115, there isn’t much to burn off.
I’ve never had any weight issues, but my son was born before switching to the vegan diet & I’d gained 75 pounds during my pregnancy! He was a healthy 9 pound baby, delivered natural. The vegan diet helped me lose weight AND too much of it. Today is literally day one of Octavia & I’m probably not going to continue. It feels too restrictive; like you I’m not thinking this is a long term solution. Eating bars all day? Nope. The food is all processed junk & I am still healing from the vegan diet! My hair continues to grow back in the way it should. I truly don’t feel starving myself is healthy on processed junk (bc on the vegan diet I ate whole foods, organic & still felt like poop without animal products.) So for me, it’s a no. Even on day one. I will not put myself in harm’s way for the sake of people proclaiming it’s so amazing ever again.
I’m a VERY active person tending to horses, dairy goats, chickens, & homeschooling my toddler. I basically dont get to sit down much throughout the day. I think I gained weight now, bc the vegan diet made me lose a ton of weight & now I’m back to eating a normal diet. It’s like dang girl, you were starving, let’s store some fat for you for the next famine! Lol. I have no doubt I can burn this off another way, but I refuse to starve myself on a restricted diet again.
MY GOAL IS TO BE HEALTHY, NOT LOSE TONS OF WEIGHT RAPIDLY. & that ends my rant lol.
Looking at you, you’re naturally thin. You also talk like you’re 25. I’m 55, a professional and looking to improve my health and appearance as my husband and I enter into our “golden years”. Stop talking to your audience as if we’re your high School students.
May I ask some questions about your maintenance? I’m finishing a 50lb loss.
When I opened my box I was like sooooo much stuff! Lol. I start Monday I’m excited hoping I can stick to it
Thank you. Yet this program has been beautifully successful for me. I have lost 45 lbs in 8th months. My energy is amazing. I am able to do many activities with my teen son. I am not hungry at all. My mind has shifted. And my body. I have actually come off of 2 medications. My cholesterol which was in a danger zone. Now I am out of the danger zone and healthier than ever.
I really like this review simply because of the honesty. I was questioning how this diet holds up in the long run and appreciate your view. Thank you!
I have done this diet and am on it now. It is very sustainable. I do not follow the lean green to the tea but It is amazing
Thanks for sharing, great tips for people who are going to start the program
Thank you!! THANK YOU! I know some people that need to hear this. Dr.A brainwashes people into thinking this is healthy. Do a background on him. He is certainly not upstanding.
I was out with one of these brainwashed fools to eat and they had about a half an ounce of chicken and a 1/4 c of green beans and called it their big meal of the day! I thought if this is big what do you eat for breakfast! Lunch?? I had a lemon slice with my water and the brainless wonder said “did you know lemons have.5 grams of sugar!!” Lol! I studied nutrition in college and was diagnosed with childhood diabetes at 11. I saw a nutritionist once a week for 8 years. Then studied it in college. This person has the entire family brainwashed and hooked on this deadly diet. Optavia is filled with chemicals. Such as lead and cadmium just to name a few. It killed one family member who had CLL and someone with CLL should be eating whole organic fruits, vegetables and a variety of of lean meats and chicken. Not so much fish or shellfish due it literally being dirty due to all the mercury in the ocean. They bragged about how this very sick man with leukemia lost 250 lbs. He died less than two years of being on #Optavia junk! Then they gave it to another elderly relative and they had a stroke, and a few days later her husband who had been on the diet for 2 years had a heart attack. Another family member who had their gallbladder out (nobody should be on optavia If they don’t have a gallbladder.) since her uneducated “health coach” ( I will discuss this in a bit) doesn’t know this and it caused this family member to have occlusions in her bile ducts. She about died. Got an infection, had to have stents put in. She wouldn’t tell the doctor about Optavia but her friend who is a nurse and was with her at her surgery told the doctor. He told the patient to get off Optavia immediately! If you don’t have a gallbladder, your body can’t handle all the chemicals one eats in their fuelings. It damages your bile ducts and makes stones so if you don’t have a gallbladder discuss this diet with your doctor before starting it. This woman I told you about will have life long health issues and shortened life span. A couple years later and the health coach is still as dumb as a Brillo pad. Still doesn’t know a damn thing about health, medical issues that derive from poor eating habits and an inadequate diet,. If she was educated in health she would know this diet is harmful. But hey! She is making 3 grand a month off of stupid people! They asked if I wanted to sell it because I could make 3 to 10 grand a month! No thank you!! I am not so desperate for money that I would endanger someone’s health on this get rich quick scheme. A person has to have a certain amount of good carbs to keep from having a stroke! This Optavia crap and nonsense is deadly. And I have seen it happen first hand!
If looking sick and being sick is your goal then stay on it. If you have kids I would think twice. You might want to be there for them. I have seen the before and after pics and you all look terrible after. Sunken in eyes, square face, jowels, flabby skin and expensive plastic surgery. Instead of losing weight the normal way by eating real wholesome food, Optavia has brainwashed you into buying expensive junk loaded with chemicals. You can lose weight and not be on optavia. Learn eating habits without depending on optavia junk food. Keep eating the same amount of calories you are now and I promise you will still shed pounds, plus have a lot more money in your checking account. And look healthy!
I did a 500 calorie diet once and it was honestly pretty filling. The food was really good
My body loves carbs also. Thats why i was 50 lbs overweight. Carbs are addictive. Skinny people like you have no problems eating carbs and lots of them. I have NEVER lost weight when carbs were a significant part of my diet.
I start Monday. Super nervous about the part where I create my own meal lol
So inspired! Thank you for your honesty. It really helps us to know we are all human so the expectation of struggle is real. I start Monday. I am super excited!!
Congratulations on your Journey. My Baby lost 20 pounds in the first month. This is her 7th week I think.
I start this program Monday. I wish I would have seen this earlier. I was just so desperate.
On OPTAVIA right now, and definitely like your review and love your honest truth about it
The good thing about Optivia is they let you eat a lot while losing weight! The first week I started it I saw such good results. It was formulated for people in wheelchairs because they noticed they were gaining a lot of weight but couldn’t burn it off. The diet is pretty amazing in my opinion I feel like she rated it bad because she has never had a weight lost experience. My dietitian told me it was great for me and when going to fancy parties it had really helped me to restrain myself from eating SO MUCH! When doing the plan you have to drink a lot of water which helps with the feeling of being hungry. They let you create what you want using such healthy fats. The food taste pretty good as well so it gets a huge thumbs up for me!
Today is week eight on Optavia and I am down 24 pounds. Couldn’t be happier. I wake up naturally between eight and 8:30 AM, I’m eating more now than I ever did before, I now drink half a gallon of water a day and I’m excited to cook each night. The fueling’s are filling so there’s no desire for food, especially since were eating six times a day every 2 1/2 hours. I think you’re losing this battle.
I’ve done low carb for years. I don’t find myself hungry or craving anything, but…let me just add that I eat plenty of fat, and am not eating dodgy cereal bars from some MLM all day = 0
What would you recommend for high quality foods at the grocery store? My husband and I have talked about spending more on groceries. I think I might could persuade him into getting higher quality foods? I’m desperate… I had talked to an old friend of mine about this he has a nutritionist as a career. So you’ve tried this. What foods should I push more for? Thanks so much I’m advance for your feedback!
I could tell where this review was going before it started just by the smirk on your face.
Mallorie what plan did you get the 5/1? Also do they give you the ingredients for the lean meal that we have to prepare? little confused on this program
Bethany you are so pretty! I enjoyed this video and subscribed! Thanks for your info sister! God bless you and your family! God bless your channel also!
Not everyone’s body processes carbs well. I’m one of them. It’s called insulin resistance in my case, and since I had gestational diabetes 3x, I am at increased risk for Type 2 diabetes. Yes, I need carbs, but I should stick to watching how many I eat and the types I eat. The truth is everyone’s body is different, and a video that puts everyone’s body in a cookie cutter standard is one that’s probably not the most accurate no matter how many good points are made.
I have always eaten healthy and clean foods because heart disease runs in my family. My main problem was that my portions were way too large, and even some of the healthy stuff I was eating had too many carbohydrates, fat, and sodium.
I’m just beginning week 4 of the Optavia 5 and 1 Plan, and I have lost 16 pounds so far.
For me the Optavia plan’s most useful benefits so far have been:
1. Getting rid of bad habits like eating portions that are too large.
2. Getting into good habits like eating six small meals/snacks per day instead of three big meals. (Eating frequent small meals also seems to keep my blood sugar more stable, so I don’t get noticeable energy surges and crashes like I used to.)
3. Re-enforcing the things that I was already doing right like working out 3-5 times per week, getting 8 hours of sleep per night, and drinking plenty of water.
4. Finding and trying new, easy, and healthy recipes that I probably would have never picked on my own.
At first, the fuelings seemed tiny and I was really hungry most of the time. But after the first couple weeks, I was more satisfied with less food. I also learned how to supplement the plan in healthy ways like having a little more protein on some days, or eating less in the mornings and saving snacks until later in the day when I’m hungriest.
When I get into transition and maintenance in about five weeks, my plan is to continue having small frequent meals/snacks, look for additional healthy dishes, and keep a weekly fitness log to keep me on track and avoid “weight creep.” It also helps that I’m working with a great coach and personal trainer, and I do boot camp and team training with a lot of people who compete and help keep each other accountable.
Had it not been full of soy protein, this program would have been great. But, while doing this program, I discovered that my body isn’t able to digest soy protein well. This intolerance gradually came on and caused some gall bladder issues and thyroid issues too. All of which were temporary, nothing lasting, but as soon as I stopped eating their fuelings, and with some help from a friend who has some herbal knowledge, I gradually got better. It was no wonder my weight loss plateaued. You need a healthy thyroid to lose weight and manage your metabolism. There wasn’t much I could do with the program after this though because I also have a mild intolerance to dairy protein and soy and diary are the only proteins they have in their food, so yeah, i had to be done. I lost 20 lbs, but then gained 10 lbs back since. I never reached my actual goal.
I was on 5&1 program lost 45 pounds, left program and gain 25 pounds back lol Thats all my fault though. One thing I will discuss is the fact that its like 400$ for a months worth of meals and does not include the meal you chose to cook yourself. I hope to find another program that is less costly or just do things on my own. I was on plan for almost a year and my own coach did not even know how to coach me, it was more motivational than informative. Also no one was ever able to help me when it got to maintance. They would still encourage you to buy their food. For a box of 7 meals it was anywhere from 18-23$. You needed about 23 boxs per month. I loved the fact that I lost weight but man so expensive.
I have been doing this for 5.5 weeks and have lost almost 8 lbs. I am starved, famished, and so hangry tht I actually yelled at my dog, who is like my baby, and kicked my cat. My BF keeps leaving the house. The fuelings that are supposed to satisfy for 2.5 hours leave me starved after 45 minutes. I am miserable. Coach says, don’t weigh yourself, but rather measure or try on clothes! So I did! I have lost… wait for it… 1/2 inch at my waist. Nothing else has moved. I was already healthy. I did not need to deal with diabetes or high blood pressure, slept fine, good energy. The ONLY reason I did this was to lose weight and I consider it an expensive and very painful FAIL.
I will be trying out a belgian book next month I hope. Already tried out some yummie snacks. It involves a lot of baking and meal prepping but I think it’s easier to keep up. #fitmom is the book ^_^ I’ll probably post some things on my personal channel about it. With the kiddies
it’s gotten very expensive, I’ve done it through the years. I’m hoping to keep around just some snacks
Not a fan of optiva but we do NOt need any carbs, our brain runs fine on ketones and the glucose out liver produces. No carbs needed at all and not recommended.
Carbs cause weight gain and inflammation and many other issues.
I believe every one is different & if u r the type of person who needs structure in the beginning & can afford it…why not? I can’t afford the program so I’m waiting for the books & making my own fueling snacks just to lose my last 15 pounds…
Awesome job and great video, congratulations!!!!! Hope you do another soon and talk about which you like and don’t like and your lean and greens. Thanks so much and again congratulations;))
You’ll lose weight, but the majority of dietitians say optavia isn’t a healthy diet.
If you focus your camera then turn off auto focus and turn it to manual it will not go in and out of focus…
i am obsessed with your channel. I know its such hard work to upload videos but I wish there were more channels like this out there. Its nice to see someone further along the road to healthy eating and how they make the program work to them along the way!
This was so informative! Thank you so much for sharing this! I will not be getting this program and just stink to a healthy diet with protein, healthy fats, and some carbs! You are awesome! Thanks again!!
Wait how can you have cheese and onions on the 5/1 plan? My coach says no and I’m not allowed to have any artificial sugars except 1 stevia in coffee
What are the specific directions for making Mac and cheese chips??
I am curious about the nutrition in the products. In my book Diet is a 4letter word that begins with Die, based on deprivation. I am not saying this to be negativebut what a lot of people don’t realize is that our food sources are nutritionally bankrupt.
I usually cook and bring my lunch to work everyday, salad, main course, fruit. if there is food left over I make additional meals for later so that all I have to do is pop it in the microwave. anyway, the point being, I’m going to measure my food from now on and make smaller meals, I know my problem is the quantities. nice video, I hope you reach your goals.
Where is the regular food on this program…as in fresh organic salads veggies etc. this doesn’t sound at all healthy to me
I don’t even know you, but somehow I am extremely proud of you:)
Lady, you don’t know shit. Optavia is a fantastic program that works.
all these MLM cultists in the comments trying to say a licensed professional doesn’t know what they’re talking about…. okay hun
Thank you for sharing this video. It is inspirational to see others and hear their stories. It will certainly help me on my own journey!
Did you have a certain water bottle you used to keep track of water?
I can’t get through the video with the weird editing and the loud PLONK sounds when you are pointing out things on your computer
Thank you for your honest opinion. I found your videos very inspirational as I’m getting ready to start this journey myself and there are some many negative opinions about it on YouTube. I just need a jumpstart as I have struggled with weight loss for the past year and I feel like this plan will help motivate me as it did you. Good luck in your future weight loss journey!
