I weight 42 kg (when you started you were 43 kg) and I started doing some abs workouts (it’s been 6 weeks now and no results, maybe because I don’t drink that much water but it’s hard to drink 2l each day.. ), exercises with light dumbells and now I have mini bands. I am scared of increasing calories because I know that I will gain fat and not muscles. (It happen already once so that’s why). Or because of my cookies that have 200 calories. Every day at 16 o clock I eat them. Maybe they are the cause of my problem. Or Maybe I should increase my exercises? Do more.? But then I will be exhausted. I workout 4/7 for about one hour, sometimes less, more.. Wait… Or that’s because I am using light weights?
And I am always bloated, always. Or is it just fat? Never had a flat stomach in my life. I ma skinny fat. When I used to weight 45 kg I had double chin, even at 43.

I switched from regular beer to alcohol free beer a month ago. 50 calories vs 150 calories for regular beer. For the first week I said to myself “it’s ok but not a real beer”. After that it was just what was in the fridge so it was what I drank when I was hot and thirsty. After three weeks I don’t think of it as “near beer” anymore, it is just a cold beer when I want a beer. a couple days ago I noticed one real beer left in the back of the fridge and I said to myself “I wonder how it will taste in comparison to the beer I have been drinking?” I drank it and noted that I prefer the alcohol free beer now over the regular beer! The bottom line is you get used to a particular brand of beer, and that taste is what your brain expects to taste whenever you have a beer. That is why a particular brand of beer “just tastes right” to you. It is just what you are used to. Now that I am used to the taste of alcohol free beer, that is the taste I associate with the pleasure of having a beer on a hot day. I think I may just go have a cold Bud Zero with some potato chips on my sundeck and lose weight and make some vitamin D in the process. Stay safe. Mask it…or casket.

In the nearly 5 months that Sars CoV-2 has traveled around the VERY obese USA, there has been almost NO guidance on personal mitigation outside of distancing, reducing interactions, masks, etc. from the Scientific, Medical and Health Departments. It’s simply infuriating to listen to people with a BMI between 30-40, speak about how selfish “others” are by simple acts of living their lives, socializing, shopping or even the refusal to wear a mask (controversial here in US) and spending ZERO time on their own risk management. In the US if you talk about obesity, every Social justice warrior emerges from their sofa to fight about their right to…I’m not sure. Be overweight during a pandemic? If months ago, each State’s DOH would have put emphasis on personal risk management: BMI, less consumption of alcohol, tobacco, exercise, etc….the US could have reduced our obesity problem by half. Instead, during the lockdown, Governors kept the liquor stores open, the fast-food drive-throughs staking up revenue and closed down work out facilities. It’s one of the most egregious actions against the health of a human in the spirit of protecting a human.

Just to be clear, only white sugar is 4 calories per gram, most carbs are a lot lower as they are not pure sugar, contain fibre or water. So carbs are very low calorie density. Why “carbs make you fat”, is the biggest myth out there!

I believe this to be relevant to what you are saying in your video especially regarding the cardiovascular health with covid-19. The fact that this information is not commonly expressed in the general medical establishment is, in my opinion, a bit of an international scandal. I would suggest watching the summary part of the video first to see if you want to watch the full video. Unlike most anecdotal dietary videos this is liberally substantiated by scientific knowledge and case studies, plus they have the proposed metabolic pathway open to scrutiny.

Oh dear, Dr John still seems to believe the food industry myth/propaganda that a calorie is a calorie! The human body is not a bomb calorimeter, however, it doesn’t “burn” energy that way. People will never lose weight by following a calorie-controlled diet, that has been amply demonstrated over the last several decades. The problem is carbs. Obesity is a malfunction of the energy partitioning system of the body, causing fat deposition. This is caused by elevated insulin levels, caused by a poor diet high in sugar and refined carbs. Sadly, there will never be a multi-million dollar/pound low carb industry lobbying for changes to the government dietary advice, so it sadly falls to people themselves to learn about the benefits of a low carb diet, and we have to constantly fight against the entrenched dogma promoted by the processed food industry, who pay medical doctors large sums to promote the ideology of “a calorie is just a calorie” and cut calories and take exercise. Exercise is great, and has many benefits, but it will never make you lose weight.

Gentle suggestion Dr. John. When presenting comparisons of calories between foods and alcohol, use common table servings instead of g/ml. It will greatly improve understanding by folks who rarely use scientific measurements but instantly understand the difference between a 10oz Rib Eye steak and a pint of good British ale.

He is pretty enthusiastic about clinical trials. I wish he’d support his claims with some numbers! How many people get significantly better treatments and how many people get harmed? After all the trials do exist because new drugs can cause harm. So we do clinical trials to kepp the harm to a small number and monitor as best as we can. It would also be interesting to know how many new drugs get approved and how many are considered too harmfull or just not helpfull. Also they are playing around with the doses to see how to use new drugs in those trials…
If there wouldn’t be a hazard, why would we need a trial? Not very convincing…
New rules…no more junk food ads on tv before 9pm and no more 2 for 1 offers on junk food either. A major rule of mine for over 15 years is simply do not drink your calories! A don’t drink any soda, etc, no sugar in teas, coffee, milks, no artificial sweeteners as well to mess up the body with confusion, no juices…. I save my calories for EATING. EAT the fruits, Eat along with my coffee, instead of sweetening it and also eating beside it… if you drink your calories, you are doubling up And absolutely no alcohol at all.
We do intermittent fasting 12 hours without eating sometimes 16 hours with keto diet…we have lost weight and feel great!..What do you think?

It’s estimated 60,270,708 people in the UK have some degree of Metabolic Syndrome! As it happens, calories in vs. calories out is not a story that matters. And, you can’t exercise your way to good health if you eat a bad diet. A bad diet is any diet that consumes a lot of fruit, vegetables, and/or grains, or products created from those ingredients. Even worse is a diet involving any amount of seed oils, commonly called vegetable oils. In short, if you want to be healthy and lose weight, you can maintain your current exercise regime at your current level and switch your diet to a variety of meat and fish with the fat still attached. Eat till you are full, eat when you are hungry. Don’t eat processed foods, plant mater, vegetable oil. Drink water or, if you must, black coffee or tea without sugar. Your Metabolic Syndrome will reverse and you will lose weight.

Is there anything we can do to off-set this problem from a workout point of view as a precautionary measure prior to any potential infection hitting patients? People seem to be getting volumetric muscle loss or degeneration that appears similar to the affects of aging when you look at before and after images from corona virus victims.

Yes, I too am guilty of jumping from diet plan to others as well, I think that I must have tested every weight loss program that was available, but in the end not one of them helped me to reduce and maintain the weight off. In my experience so far, good is neither cheap OR fast. It costs more to cook and eat healthy. This is why so many people are in the fast-cheap trap. Cheap food is not good. Fast food is not good either. Perhaps it depends on your definition of what good is.
As to overweight problems its not just what you eat its also the amount of physical activity you do Our lifestyles especialy in the work place have changed dramaticaly in the past few decades There was far less Obesity when many did physical jobs now the majority spend there entire day sitting down staring at screens or talking on the phone not good for burning off the calories not an easy problem to solve

It’s so great that some people are eating healthier and losing weight. It’s great to hear that. However, I would love to mention that even those who are losing and stopping drinking and smoking etc., can be out on a healthy run or eating properly and still have something go wrong and end up killing them. That also includes guns, knives, shootings, killings, fires falls, household accidents and the list is endless. Just because there’s Covid doesn’t mean that losing weight, quitting alcohol etc., will save one’s life. Take a look at traffic accidents. They don’t care how much alcohol or BMI you drink or are, do they? While this may be only for Covid related queries, take one look at Atikins and even Pritikin and where they are now. Perfect body weights and no heart issues. Hmmmmm…..

You have to eat carbs in order to even remotely have any power at all. Doesn’t matter what the keto ppl tell you, if you live and breath and move, you need carbs for energy, only when you depleted the atp pc and and fast glycolysis, only then your body starts burning fat, which means you work slow, low power but you can go for a long long time. In terms of exercise, it means you can’t do anything useful.

It’s unethical to expose people to a potentially deadly disease to see if a vaccine works, so can take far longer for monitoring the people that have had a new vaccine to see if it is effective. At least with sars-cov-2 having some cross over with other less severe coronaviruses, maybe the trials can expose people to one of those instead, to get a rough idea if any vaccine might be effective.
