Hello YWA community. I find the standing splits really challenging as I feel a lot of pressure in the hip of the standing leg, which I kind of fall into (pushing it to the side of my mat). Does anyone have any tips on how to correct this? Or is it just a matter of practice and improving my strength / flexibility?
All the repetition in todays practice was intimidating at first, but weirdly I seemed to be getting stronger as it kept going and felt great by the end! I also feel like I really got the float down today!:D

So I wasn’t feeling too up to doing this session today but I knew that it would be good for me. I knew it would be good for me physically but I didn’t anticipate how good it would be for me mentally. Yesterday I had an event from my life seriously off-balance. Instead of modifying things like I would a pose, I decided that everything had to stay the same and be perfect and at the same time I had to balance the situation that has popped up. The situation is a happy one, but being thrown off balance can result in frustration and anger. Doing this practice reminded me to smile when I am off balance and modify my life to get back into the swing of things. Thank you

I quit at about 3/4 way through. I sprained my right intercostals 3 days ago and they hurt too much with many of the moves for me to be sure I’m not doing more harm than good by continuing.
That’s one of the first videos I tried three months ago and it seemed extremely hard to do. I have been practicing daily since then with other videos. Today I revisited this practice through the June calendar and I got so emotional as I was understanding the “yoga talk” and how a little goes a long way. I felt so connected to my body and heart and that’s been my goal for a very long time. A million thanks to you Adriene, you’ve been a great teacher and such a good friend. I trust you and feel safe with you. You are making the world a better place♥️ Namaste

I’ve recently started getting up every morning at 7:00 to run a mile, do as many push-ups as I can, and then as many sit-ups as I can.
It has been Hell.
But today literally today I got from a 7:30 / 7:40 time to 7:10.
It may not seem like much to most people, but seeing a twenty second improvement made me really happy with my progress. I still want to run a 6:00 mile but I know it will take a while.
Then Jaiden mentioned diet and I looked down at my plate of sausage rolls from the local donut store.
Yeah, I should start eating a bit better.

Why didn’t you make the AirPod case cover out of the grey felt? Looks like there was enough for the case. Leather hole punch would work on felt for holes. It is the same color both sides, would still look cool + chic with gold screw + carabiner.
It’s sometimes hard to eat a meal fully when your anxious and your throat tightens so it feels like your gonna throw up. (It’s sucks)
would be a blank calendar or a upgradet whiteboard (like a diy frame) a better option.

If you ask me the weight for me is wherever I’m healthy not overweight and not underweight just eat healthy and do a bit of exercise I take long walk and I run so much Ive been told I burn off most of the calories I eat I’m feeling healthy so yeah. I feel as though I’m getting a bit overweight but I’ll be okay if I’m healthy.

I have never liked yoga. I have tried it a handful of times and always walk away with a feeling of ‘that was a waste of time’ or “I have no idea what I am doing”. This is my second video I have done with you and I loved both! I think it is that you are so reassuring about everything and let me know in a very real way that I will get there and it is OK if I am not, while at the same time pushing me to feel comfortable trying. It is all about my own body and what I can do.
I love your attitude as well. I have always felt that yoga was a little hokey and too spiritual for me. You draw upon that, but you don’t focus on it. I like the way you suggest it, but also let me know it is OK, if I don’t feel it. Maybe I will one day, but for now I am just enjoying a great workout! Thank you!

This Christmas I totally had good intentions of using fabric to make some reusable bags and some furoshiki wraps for gifts. And I totally failed. Mostly because I didn’t know where to start, what size to make them, and how to think about designing them. I know next holiday season is a long way off, but there are other gift wrapping occasions all year. This seems like a great thrift challenge for you. Or, if not thrifting, then another diy. Please please please show me what to do.

Maybe you can make that grid out of wood and stick it to the wood square (the one behind) just from the sides so you slide the paper through.
(Paper goes between the wooden grid and the full piece of wood)
That way every month you just slide the paper and have the same squares in wood rather than stamped. And you dont have to restamp ever again!

Oh my this was challenging as hell! But I did it through all the vinyasas and I’m damn proud of it.
Switched today’s Courage practice with this one, because tomorrow I’ll be marching against police brutality in France, and I wasn’t sure I would have the time nor the energy to squeeze a full hour of practice.
But damn, did this practice gave me courage.

But your body stores fat when it eats, as stored energy for later, but in modern day, where everyone has enough food, the fat never gets used. So starvation sounds bad, but think about it as hibernation, bears eat lots of food before it, as the body will use up all that fat in the duration. Safely fasting is okay. For us chubby ppl, we have enough fat for our body to function properly without food for a while. So no, starvation isn’t as bad as you thought, just don’t do it if you are pregnant, a normal weight, or under weight.

I thought you were going to make a wooden grid that is mounted to the wall, but also hovers off the wall so you can pull the paper down and through the grid so you could have a permanent calendar that only needs a new roll of blank paper replaced every once in awhile. I’m 15 years old and I have ben doing yoga for a year and a half now. Before starting practicing yoga I had anxiety and I was very insecure about my body. Yoga taught me to love my body and appreciate every single part if it. I like to think that yoga was my ‘saving’ it helped me to manage most of my panic attacks. I just did this workout and it reminded me of every thing I love about yoga. Thank you!:-)
First 10 minutes “hmm maybe this won’t be so hard” 30 minutes in shaking and blinded by sweat but feeling good! Adriene is the BEST!
I’m kind of a inactive thanks to pandemic (yep, seeing old videos, is 0:44 LOL) but when I was more active I was pretty good talking and smiling when new people came to train with us (martial arts with weapons) because sometimes the routine is lighter of what we usually do, even when I have a little extra weight on me (5 to 10 kg, not sure) I think that’s how they manage to do those videos (when they don’t have that many cuts in them), but the diet makes the real change, more protein, less carbs, more fiber, any fried stuff at minimum, less sodium, compared to when I was younger that I ate like a family with extra of everything (I could literally eat 2 dozen empanadas criollas without gaining weight when in my teens, crazy stuff for people around me), literally everything tastes different now, mostly richer flavor, but some cheap chocolates or other junk food taste like crap, which is AWESOME. I hope quarentine ends soon so I can go train again, here is really frustrating and depressing, I don’t have space to even fling my arms or legs, so my sticks and sword are a no-no (I hit both my lamps…luckily didnt broke any of them)
jotting down ideas yesterday and today. I like taking my time with creating the list, so I know what I really want for the new year.
I am sort of surprised at myself, but after trepidatiin, dug into this. As happens when I get out of my comfort zone and trust the process, I loved this. It wasnt exactly pretty, but felt soo good. Thank you so much.

Yesterday was rough. Got laid off, after being on temp lay off since march. I’ve lost all health insurance and other benefits. I pushed today to get onto my mat. I needed this practice, and I feel a ton better than i did before. Thanks:) ❤️

I was really unmotivated to do this practice, so I promised myself I would take it breath by breath… An hour later (where did the time go?!) I felt grateful and happy that your guidance through breath could help me through such a challenging practice!
The calendar had two mistakes: 1 January 2020 was a Wednesday, and the calendar should have had 6 rows, not 5!
Mine is to be positive on the inside and out, basically by positive inside is just the usual and on the outside is to look like I take car of myself, so look after my body, my skin, my hair etc

Here halfway through COURAGE and suddenly I can get my leg all the way up into a lunge. I didn’t think it would be possible!
Wow, this was intense, but I did it. Just like courage in life, the month of courage yoga is challenging but feels great when you follow through.
Yo I think I had that disorder as a kid cause there was once where I didn’t eat for like a week or 2 and when I did it was like half an apple
I had to get my partner to confirm that an hour did indeed pass and this practice wasn’t as short as it felt! Thank you Adriene for a beautiful strengthening practice, rising up into warrior 1 made me feel fierce AF!

Loved this one. Waited til later in the day to get my practice in and wasn’t really feeling the 1 hour video. But this one was awesome. Flew by once we got into the faster flows and I am actually starting to love standing split after this. One of my fave videos for sure:)

Totally agree with the calendar thing. We use a wall calendar as well as our phones so that we know each others schedules. Visual is better for us.
The mistake is that the January of 2020 starts with Wednesday 1st, but becky drew Saturday the 1st

The calendar was such a missed opportunity to thrift flip/upcycle something that is sustainable unlike a tear away calendar that cannot be reused.
It really stresses me out that they show themselves doing DIY in really pretty clothes…

The Graces is such a easy read! Obsessed, it is my all time favourite book
So I have two cats. One (Roku) is the gentlest cat I’ve ever seen and spent time with but doesn’t like hugs and skin contact in general. (if she can’t find a way out, would still endure without biting/scratching) The other one (Hachi) is a spoiled brat who’s all for hugs and everything & clingy as hell but he also gets pissed pretty easily and starts biting really hard at random times (apparently it’s also one of his favourite ways to show his love)
Since I started doing yoga, it became our bonding time with Roku. She loves it so much that she dashes to me as soon as she hears me starting even if she was sleeping (she lives for food and sleep & nothing else) She rubs all over me, kisses my face when I bend/lay down etc.. Basically it’s pure bliss for both of us. Hachi though, he either doesn’t care or (I guess) gets offended and starts attacking my thighs, toes and god, bites so hard that I have to pause and get him out of the room. Today though it was different in a funny way. =3
While Roku didn’t react to me starting doing my practice this time, Hachi came immediately and climbed into my lap. He was so determined to curl up on me, he even tried to lay down on my chest when I was lying down and hugging my knee.(He’s a big cat for that) It became especially sweet when I strectched my arm and he thought “yay! Sleepy time!” and lay on my arm and hugged my neck =w= For the whole hour it was me changing poses and him trying to settle on top of me. (Yeah I felt really guilty:’D) Anyway, I didn’t expect my comment to be this long but I couldn’t hold the urge to share:D Thanks as always, Adriene!

Day 13 of Courage. I wasn’t totally feeling a longer class today, but got on the mat anyway. I am leaving the mat energized and sweaty. When I read balancing practice, I imagined lots of warrior threes, tree poses, and falling. I really enjoyed this flow, and how it wasn’t what I was expecting. It confirmed the truth that you always feel better after being on your mat. Thank you, Adriene!

When I got up from this practice I felt I was in another world! It was my second hour long class as I usually daily do half hours but it was awesome. With one or two very short senior rests and lovely deep breaths, following yours Adriene, I made it through to lovely scissors and yummy happy baby. That cool down was so welcome see you tomorrow on the mat for Runners Yoga♀️♀️
Yay! I showed up loved the practice. I didn’t give up when I almost thought I would. Covid has been tremendously bad for the world. It has forced us all, to take a step back and re-think everything. For me, yoga has been the biggest takeaway. I have just started my journey, but with each day I am getting closer. Yoga teaches us, it’s never to late to begin what we have neglected. Day 13 of courage 2020 done. This was the most difficult practice so far, due to the sadness and anxiety that overwhelmed me yesterday. I woke up feeling low as well, too much on my mind. This practice helped me a bit to ground and remembered myself to take breaks. Even in yoga, I feel to need to “compete” with myself, but now I actually took a rest in child pose whenever I needed to! THANK YOU ADRIENE, YOU ROCK.

I enjoyed this class. I have SPMS, which means I have balance and strength issues. I am really finding daily practice is strengthening my body and improving my balance. I do what feels good for me.

I have been committing myself to the practice as my coping mechanism to address depression when it hit me in January of this year… The meditation, breathing exercises, calming vibes, and my progress in the poses help me feel better each day. One of your most challenging videos! When you said: “pivot on the right/left foot” I was like: “Not again?!” literally crying out loud. But eventually I did it! At the beginning I promised to Find What Feels Good. Throughout the practice I didn’t really follow this path because it was sometime really exhausting and I was longing to STOP. Somehow I did not but I carried on even if it was hard! BUT after finishing it I just realized that I actually found what felt good: a great challenge completed! Edit: I’ve just realized I posted with my dog’s channel but never mind, he loves downward facing dog too 😉
I love that you mentioned creating a punishment if you don’t follow through. So many people are afraid to use negative reinforcement for themselves. But really, it’s only “negative” when it’s imposed on us by others. It’s POWERFUL when we create it. I personally love the idea of anti-charities you have to donate to a charity you HATE. If that’s not motivating, I don’t know what it.

I’m 25 weeks pregnant and am reading a TON right now, it’s one of the only things my body can handle, ha ha. If you like beachy reads, Elin Hilderbrand has a trilogy of books that I just read book 1 and 2 for last week, that I could not put down. The 3rd book in the series comes out this Summer. Book one is: Winter in Paradise and book two is: What happens in Paradise. My two favorite books from last year are both by Taylor Jenkins Reid: The 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & the Six (both were awesome!) If you like Historic Fiction, read The Giver of Stars, it starts out a little slow and then becomes sooooo good around page 25. Also, Bringing Down the Duke, is historical fiction about the British Suffragette movement and it has some steamy bits (I read this book in like 24 hours, I couldn’t put it down and stayed up to the wee hours of the morning just so I could keep reading. Hope some of these appeal to you! I read a LOT, so I have lots of suggestions for the future if you need them! Sending Love from NY <3
Hi I just discovered your channel today! I´m 21 and from Germany and I really like the full body approach you have! And your attitude is brightening up my day:) I have 2 questions it would be great if you could answer them or refer me to a video of yours where the are discussed.
First question is if face yoga will make my face more tense as in less expressive in the long term. I am training to be an actress and I actually need to be more expressive with my face and I get told i look very serious and I should work on relaxing (softening) my face. I´m apparently having a “stone” face a lot or very skeptical expression or not being expressive enough. I feel insecure about showing big emotion on my face even though I am very emotional person and it´s important for my job. Will face yoga help with this or hinder and how?
Also I noticed that I have a way harscher line when smiling on one side and it even stay sometimes. Where does that come from and how can I train to not have these lines even when I smile and laugh a lot?

I discovered podcasts in 2018! I’ve also learned about how important it is to maintain boundaries. Having one day to yourself (besides school and work) is necessary! Eating 3 meals a day is a must! Always reach out for help; everyday if you can. Finally, I have learned that I don’t have to validate myself to the world constantly.
