The Nalgene OTG Tritan is made of clear, hard, impact-resistant Eastman Tritan plastic. As of 2008, the Nalgene OTG Tritan is BPA-free even though it has a numeral 7 inside the recycling triangle on the bottom of the bottle. Years ago, when BPA was prevalent in plastic water bottles, people were told to avoid bottles with a 7 designation.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for NALGENE Tritan OTG BPA-Free Water Bottle 24 Oz at Amazon.com.

What is Tritan? It is a new plastic—not simply BPA-free polycarbonate. This, alas, raises a bit of a shadow of safety concerns.

I’ve just bought my first nalgene. I’m so happy I want more.
The most I carry depends on my trip. Two 48 oz nalgen. 1 2 lt cnoc a grayl filter. Sometimes I sun a stainless steel for a nalgen. A 900 ml cup always. That would be for a very long trek
i know its really off topic but i love that watch and have been looking for one like it. what kind is it?
I can run over my Nalgene bottle, but you’re right, it’s bulky. It took me forever to trust the buying of one. I’ll consider one of yours after I do a lot of research first…
Thank you! Keep up good work! Your 3rd one-Hydrapak Collapsible BPA & PVC Free is my favorite.
But I love my nalgene…..how dare you try to dethrone our King.
Haha lol jk. I have a 100 ounce (just over 3 L) Platypus bladder that I’ve had for years and years using it quite a bit and have never had a problem with it. I love it.
I believe the OTF is the replacement for the OTG. The Multidrink has the most potential. The cap dimensions are the standard Nalgene 63mm diameter. I think it should fit all Nalgene wide-mouth bottles.
HI, This is a nicely presented video and I’m not here to be a jerk to the presenter or to Nalgene. But you may want to do some research on choosing the multi-drink model. Even on the Nalgene website the multi-drink gets some bad reviews for durability. It seems the screw lid cracks and breaks very easily, even when used with care.It still seems to be a problem as of early 2013. I’m just suggesting you do some research before making a choice and purchase.Best Regards,Bob
What jacket are you wearing? Been looking for one like yours for a while.
Informative video. I tend to use power-aid type bottles that are lighter and fit the pack pockets better because they are a little skinnier. Love your personality. Makes things more interesting.
Are those bags BPA free?
How difficult are they to clean properly? thanks
@TacZakk1911 The watch is made by Bertucci and it is the Matte Titanium A-2T EL model. I love the watch. It has a raised crown so it protects the crystal and has taken lots of abuse and still looks brand new.
Nalgene also makes collapsable bottles….just so you know. LOVE Nalgene.
my teacher drinks out of the nalgene bottle without that white thing and nothing spills on her. so you are wrong.
I also have a nalgene bottle. But I also found a same quality bottle. a roadeavour. its good too..
Old smart water bottles. Lightweight and somewhat durable. Plus any Sawyer water filter screws right on.
I once threw my nalgene at a wall to test it and the wall broke. The bottle was fine.
I like the lid on the Takeya tritan bottles a little better it’s made out of the same tritan plastic
What’s this liter crap. This its merica damn it we use gallons Andydrew
I wish you would have gone over cleaning methods for the wide mouth. I have scrubbed my bottle for hours and it still smells like ball sack.
Still loving the videos. Have any of these filters you’d like to show us or compare any in another video?
Nalgene bottles don’t really waste space. Think about it, you carry in a certain volume in your pack, a one litre volume of water in a solid, leak proof, crush proof bottle and you carry out that same volume, no difference in terms of your pack volume but now you drank the water your pack weight is one kilo lighter anyway. I like them, easy to keep clean. And if you are worried about the volume on your way out, stick your trash in the empty bottle or anything else, small items, dirty socks…maybe not! But you get the point, right?
@AsianUnlimited Haven’t tried that yet. Interesting idea though.
OTG on the go(на ходу).
These are some awesome options. But they do not fill all of the needs that a stainless steel, single wall bottle does.
But hey, you’re talking hiking. You are not talking a survival situation or bushcrafting situation.
I just bought this bottle from Target for $10.50. Hope it lasts.
I’ve been backpacking for awhile now. Although I carry smart water bottles, nalgene bottles really don’t weigh much. People are going overboard on this ultra lite weight shit. Yes I do believe you can cut weight in some areas but its getting outa hand. Ohh and after folding that collapsible bladder it will eventually crack or split
Take a bottle weighing 300 grams in which you can boil water. Or take 300 grams of medicine for diarrhea and other joys of wild life. The weight of your luggage will not change. But your personal weight will change, of course if you survive.
@AsianUnlimited why not? Just make sure that is filled only 3/4. Or the physic will work against you.
I wanted to disagree with you but those last two bottles are awesome. A reason I always went with a Nalgene is because I want a top that’s large enough to fit a life-straw into. At camp it’s easy to filter but when you’re on the move it’s much easier to just fill a bottle with unfiltered stream water and drink with the life straw. Thanks for this, going to pick those up!
Seems to me companies have updated the traditional leather drinking bota.
Sorry, but I just can’t give up my Hydroflask 40 and 64oz growler. I live in Savannah and nothing else keeps my drank ice cold, all day long when kayaking or camping. It’s well worth the weight.
While those you mention are great alternatives, Nalgene bottles work for many of us and have so for many years.
Hello brother!
It will be great if u make some videos about 18650 internal resistance, voltage, current, discharge, charge how they work

Big fan of the 1L SmartWater bottles. Super durable, smaller diameter helps stuffing in backpack side pockets, works well with Sawyer system (the flip top/squeeze cap is a perfect fit for backwashing your water filter). Also, while they are meant to be disposable, I’ve been using one of the bottles I have for the past 3 years of backpacking trips. Not sure about the BPA content tho..
When I first got a Nalgene bottle, I used the sipper at first. Turns out it has a nasty habit of cultivating bacteria as it would smell foul after a while. I put an OTF cap on the bottle and clean it out with bleach after every use, so far it is holding up.
Hi there, Nice video. Exactly what I’m looking for. Just ordered my own OTF today. You might want to change the title of your video as it says OTG and not OTF.
David, what’s the story with this bottle being exposed in the sun? Since it’s plastic, I’m concerned with the possible harmful effects of sun exposure when on hikes, on the lake, etc.
Distraction to not buy Nalgene!(Say”Negative about it,and then say”My water(Insert Product here!) can do this!)But don’t tell the Nalgene can be dunked into water?(Which water?Out of a faucet,but when not near a faucet?)Misdirection isn’t only a magician’s trick it’s a salesman’s trick!All most all,are most do the same,others better than most?
Anyone else wanna point out that you can’t boil water for sterilization in those like you can in a ss bottle? That’s one of the biggest reasons that people who spend any time out in the wild use them.
I just ordered a blue Nalgene with a white easy sipper.Everything you review is a definite staple and all are high quality/performance. Can’t wait to see what other products/lessons you have in store. Have a great week.Peace Bro..
Closed this tab and ordered another Nalgene from their website. Cheers.
I’ve had so many platypus bottles and those other expensive brand plastic bags break on me. They don’t last long!
I’ll keep my Nalgene bottles! Only plastic bag I use is my Katadyn BeFree filter bag. So far it’s the only one that hasn’t let me down.
i currently use hydro flask it shape similar to nalgene except it insulated.
Short to the point and informative… Good youtuber right here. Take notes people
Great video, never liked nalgene bottles myself either. The main advantage is that there are a lot of metal cups that slide over the outside, and the wide mouth. The metal equivalent in size/shape, like the pathfinder bottle from Dave Canterbury, main advantage is you can boil water in it. Popular with a lot of bushcrafters. There are a lot of the cheaper roll up bottles in pound shop/dollar store, best bit i got from this video was to use a bottle as a seatpad/pillow. Awesome idea. Im getting a sawyer water filter soon, it connects to a lot of standard thread bottles and looks like it might connect to the 1st/2nd bottle, going to see if I can find this gear in the UK. Andrew for future videos you might want to get UK amazon affiliate links as well.
My favourite bottle that I use is a 39 year old fisher price water bottle. 500ml, came as part of a childrens explorers kit when I was 5, and its still going strong, small version of US canteen but bright yellow! ive got value for money out of that one.
I know the size and the weight of a Nalgene is not much attractive than the products you recommend. But when you’re camping, most of the time you have to put water which just has been boiled. The Nalgene could do the job. And yours will….
There is more difference in weight (and technology) between your blue jeans and a good trail pants than the nalgene bottle and one of those bladders.
I’m not saying you can’t gain some weight and space savings with the bottles but I’d start with the pants.
I never liked the nalgene style bottles. They big and clunky. I’ve got a few collapsible ones myself. I can’t stand things that waste so much space
Hyping a silly fad product. I have used my 2 Nalgene bottles for nearly 20 years. I have used my Stainless bottles almost daily for nearly 5 years. I’ll let you in on a little secret… they are not that heavy. And those bladders won’t last that long and are a pain to clean and dry. But, hey it’s your money… I’m the type of person who prefers to buy once.
Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen? Have you ever looked with lust, Jesus said that is committing adultery in your heart. If you stand before God would you be Innocent or guilty? You would be guilty. But God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for are sins. Taking are punishment and he rose again defeating death. What you have to do to be saved is repent. (TURN AWAY FROM SIN) and trust Jesus like a parachute!
Disagree respectfully. 95% protection is not enough when it comes to the most important thing you’re carrying with you. Plus, it has other uses other than carrying water the plastic bags don’t
The minimal amount of weight my stainless bottle has is nothing compared to being able to boil water in it if need be. Can’t do that with bladders. I also carry bladders, but only use them at base camp
Does this water bottle sweat a lot when filling with ice cold water?
The Nalgene army are in the house, good vid tho mate for those weight dumping
Best accessory is a Nalgene OTF Cap; I promise you won’t regret it.
This was enlightening, i just carry a bunch if water bottles around in a backpack and it puts a lot strain on my shoulders. Hiking is something i greatly enjoy.
But the cool thing with the nalgene is that it’s bpa free, thats often not the case with soft plastic.
I tried to use them but they always end up with a little hole in them and after the third one I was like nah I think those are for people who go for hikes for just a few hours or biking were you go home after but we go hunting or scouting usually rough places and they just don’t hold up in the truck or in the bush were your really down in the dirt, nice for a day pack though
or a haversack.
Wow God we didn’t know this kind of bottles! Know try boil water when you are out there to really disinfect water, cause your filter will just do it’s best but not disinfect.
People that use steel bottles usually dont go for 3 hours walk, for this we can use bottles of water which we can also use afterwards when empty
great video please comment one of our videos and subscribe us as well:)
Some people “suck” when they drink the water, and some else have more of a pour and let more air in when they drink. So I guess, the lid is best for those who pour the water…
I consider wery strongly to buy this bottle. As I drink 3l or more of water daily, Im going with 1l or even 1.5 if it is available. Its triton but do you know if it is polypropylene (PP) a triangle and with the number 5 on it?
I usually carry around a gallon bottle… But they may indeed be a tad more convenient! Thanks, Andrew!
i came here JUST TO DISLIKE this video and leave a contrary comment. people like you think you have the best idea in the world for all people and you don’t. and I”m not going to stick around to find out if you have any actual valuable comments on anything else because I very much dislike how you approached a topic that is NOT OBJECTIVE, and very subjective and then you diss everyone who doesn’t feel the way you do now. I bet at one time you would change your tune and want a nalgene bottle. you don’t know the real need to use them do you? I think you’re an amateur. because a real pro would know right away that a nalgene bottle is almost indestructable. perhaps you never make a mistake. hahahahahahaha. i doubt that. i doubt that very much.
Cool. I like the second one and I use those packs all the time to replace electrolytes.
This a was a great, informative video. Think you have the basis for a good series of videos if you wanted to cover some other basic and/or weight saving tips. For example, best practices for a 2 hr hike for one video, best for a 2 day hike another. You’re already covering the products; reframing it for a more general audience may get you more eyeballs.
Think there’s a balance you can find between hardcore enthusiast and mass appeal where everyone can learn something.
I acknowledge that soft flasks are great for lots of uses specially if you are running, and when there are empty they pack to nothing, but they don’t last long and I’ve used all the big brands that make soft flasks and with all of them the water always taste plastic specially if it gets hot. For a back pack trip, you are going to lose some 20 grams by changing from a nalgene to a soft flask, wish is totally irrelevant in terms of weight loss, and your nalgene will last till the end of times always keeping your water tasting like water not plastic. Other thing…if you transport your precious water on a long trip far from civilization and reliable water points, on the outside of your backpack, for sure you will not wanna risk a puncture on that soft flask by rubbing it on some rock or thorn….
Yeah, I do get pretty tired of haulin around clunky plastic jank. For some reason I still carry bottles … Very cool options thanks! Love the pillow idea.
