Spironolactone will cause the elimination of water from the body, causing weight loss, but it does not cause fat loss directly. Losing body water is not the same as losing body fat through healthy nutrition and exercise. You may become less bloated using a diuretic, but the weight will return once body fluid levels return to normal.
There is no evidence that spironolactone works specifically for weight loss. But spironolactone might help reduce weight that’s related to fluid retention, especially in.Should You Take Spironolactone For Weight Loss There is no scientific evidence supports the effectiveness and reliability of spironolactone for weight loss. Being a diuretic pill helps in flushing out excess fluid retained in the body. Sudden loss of excess fluid from the body will definitely reduce your body weight for a short term period.
Spironolactone for weight loss has been shown to help relieve symptoms like fluid retention or other health conditions, but no evidence is shown for healthy weight loss. Spironolactone weight loss is also not encouraged since it is a water pill and can result in severe dehydration if misused. It’s also used to treat hyperaldosteronism, a condition related to an overactive adrenal gland. Weight Loss.
It is unclear whether spironolactone can help in the fight to lose weight. It definitely flushes fluid from the body, helping you to look and feel slimmer in the short term, and one of the side effects is a loss of appetite, according to the National Institutes of Health.PCOS has all sorts of related health issues, including those attached to weight, insulin tolerance, etc. The only time I ever had trouble with losing weight was being on BCP or anti-anxiety meds.
I only take Spiro (no birth control pills or IUD) and have.Be aware that though many people, and probably most women with PCOS, do lose weight on Metformin and Spiro, some actually gain weight from it. I was fine at the dose you’re on, and actually reached the lowest weight of my adult life last December while on it.You may take spironolactone with or without food, but take it the same way each time.
You will need frequent medical tests. This medicine can affect the results of certain medical tests. The side effects associated with spironolactone and the electrolyte imbalance (disturbance to the salt composition in your body) can cause significant harm and at best may achieve five pounds of weight loss, beyond which severe consequences will pose great risks to your health and well-being 1 ⭐ ⭐ This is a verified and trusted source.People should know that there are certain benefits and side effects that may occur when a person uses spironolactone.
First of all, people should not use this drug without the supervision of health provider. The only weight loss a person may experience due to the usage of this drug is because of all the fluids that are flushed out of the system.Spironolactone is generally safe, but it can lead to health problems if not taken correctly. Talk to your doctor before taking any other medications while taking spironolactone.
There are concerns that spironolactone can cause weight gain, but there isn’t much evidence it does. For example, the package insert for the drug doesn’t list weight gain as a side effect. Along with weight gain, many people worry that spironolactone will make their skin look worse when they first start taking it.Spironolactone is a drug that is prescribed for the treatment of conditions such as primary hyperaldosteronism, hormonal acne, hypokalemia, and hirsutism. Weight loss that might result following the use of spironolactone is due to its diuretic properties.
This Buzzle write-up.I also lost about 5 pounds with no dieting during the first two weeks of taking spiro. Spiro is a diuretic which causes you to lose water. A person can lose up to 10 pounds or more in water weight. I assumed my weight loss is due to that reason.
Aldactone (spironolactone) is a prescription diuretic used to remove the excess fluid caused by congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and kidney disease. Serious side effects include kidney failure, liver dysfunction, vasculitis, and low platelets. Drug interactions, dosage, and pregnancy and breastfeeding information are provided.

Great information. I dont know if I am doing something wrong. I feel like the metformin is not working. I am not going to the bathroom as much actually not at all. I have been on it for about a month. If I dont see any changes by the end of this month I am going to contact my doctor.
Is there any medication or vitamin that is healthy to help me gain weight?
Hi Dr Berry, Thank you for your channel I have just subscribed. I have been followi g keto for 2wks so still a newbie. I have lost no weight and my blood ketone is still at.1. I am taking Disulfiram at the moment. Can this be affecting my results? Thank you
Did you stop eating high potassium foods? That is my concern. I love spinach and salmon.
My doctor recommended Curcumin supplements for the symptoms while talking metformin
How did you have the strength to cut out processed, sugar, and dairy foods? It’s hard because so much of our diet consists of all that bad stuff and it make’s it hard to go out and eat when you’re not at home. I don’t know I feel like even eating at home makes it hard because everything is so processed now it’s hard to avoid it. And I feel like a rabbit only eating plant based foods and it feels like it’s helpless to avoid the bad foods. The exercise and portion controls aren’t bad but for me the worst part is avoiding processed foods since so much foods are processed it feels like a failing battle that no woman could ever win. I will try but honestly I feel like I have already lost when thinking about what I have to avoid. Only having to eat literally raw foods and some meats can get boring fast and It does and I hate it
Thank you so much for this video! We’re considering this medication for a minor child and I really wanted honest feedback of the side effects especially. Thank you!!
I am taking nadolol / corgard for genetic prolonged qt syndrome is this one of those beta blockers that cause weight gain? I’m also on spirnalactone for my hydranitis supprativa I feel like I have gained weight?
thanks so much for the info but cutting out diary do you mean that you don’t eat cheese like feta or yogurt at all?
Hi, are you still on spironolactone and if so how many milligrams do you take daily? Did you up your dosage since then? Are you still taking it to this day?
Thank you for all the informative videos you produce and for your vast knowledge of medicine and drugs. Wonder what you think about the LCHF movement and the new findings on the importance of cholesterol for the body and triglycerides, high sugar and carbohydrate being the culprit in heart disease rather than fats (advocated by doctors like Dr. David Diamond (twitter: @LDLSkeptic).
I was diagnosed with pcos when I was 16. Pcos is just horrible, unlike any other disease. It has ruined me so much, it’s like caring for a body which has failed to work as a normal body. It’s not even our fault that we have it, but by not dealing with it we destroy nothing but ourselves. It’s frusting(so much indeed). The worst part of having pcos is that it makes us not be yourselves. Feeling the fatigue kills us and our friends and families.
But it is so much comforting for me(hopefully for all of us) to see that we are in this fight together, and we are gonna handle that shitty problems as best as possible.
Please don’t give up and study your case because it’s different for everyone.
Remember: PCOS doesn’t makes us less than what we are, what we are capable of.
My good wishes with you.
@Dr Dray If a woman was precribed 50mg of Spironolactone for hair loss (receding hair lineso male pattern) AND facial hair growth on chin (after 2 laser tx6 sessions each), and then after taking it, started to see drastically MORE hair loss, is it possible that the medicine might be INCREASING the hair loss? It does not seem to be female pattern because it is a receding hair line, but there is a lot of chin hair growth. Please let me know what you think
I was just prescribed this for Malassezia folliculitis all over my body and scalp. I don’t even know if I wanna bother starting it cause I don’t think it will do anything as my skin and scalp issues are due to candida but EVERY candida treatment and anti fungals have failed me. What are ur thoughts will this help kill the yeast overgrowth?? As it will stop the oil production??
That start does seemed abnormally high. My derm had me take 50g for 2 weeks and then increase to 100g. Either way, I agree with you on the natural route.
You are beautiful
Weight gain mess I think make me gain weight. Amlodipine Besylate.5mg,,Isoorbide MNER 30mg,,,,Ropinrole.5mg,,,Finasteride5 mg
Since I’ve started metformin it’s impossible for me to eat three times a day. I eat here and there, and I get disgusted by my food. I ended up doing intermittent fasting since I don’t get hungry in the morning… my appetite is completely messed up
As far as make-up, thank Jesus I feel fine going out WITHOUT it!
I did find a light foundation & powder that DON’T bother my skin. I started using this a month after starting my spironolactone perscription, to cover the red marks left behind.
Clinique Acne Solutions liquid makeup (salicylic acid acne treatment) & Clinique redness solutions powder, it has probiotics. Both of these are fragrance free!
Would love ongoing updates. Like a 6 month and 1 year update think it would be useful for other women too. A lot of other people on the journey seem to stop.
This video really resonated with me! Thank you for being so honest in your journey:)
im on the verge of tears while watching. im so frustrated at how everyone thinks im just lazy hence why im gaining weight. for 3 months now i have been jogging for more than 2 hours a day just to lose weight. i have cut off a shit ton of food on my diet. im only eating twice a day but i never seem to lose any weight. i even tried drinking hot water before and after i eat because they told me it would help my weight loss. but everytime i talk to someone they just think its all because im lazy. i have worked hard to reverse my pcos while a lot of girls i know who are my age eat so much junk and dont exercise at all but dont even gain weight. i feel so wronged lol. idk i just. its so not fair.
i just weighed myself and i gained 3 kilos. and it sucks cause i have been exercising like craaazzzyyy
If you have insulin resistance it’s not good to eat many times throughout the day because it will spike your blood sugar every time you eat. It’s better to intermittent fast because it will make you more insulin sensitive
Hey Doctor Berry. How about estradiol and progesterone in menopause Love your videos. Thank you!
I read that topical can be used for men and dr Lee prescribes it for his Male patients
I have the slowest metabolic rate ever. It’s freaking hard. I eat regular like all my family and they don’t gain but I do:( the only time I lost weight was when I was super depressing strict with diet and hired a personal trainer and it was too expensive and I couldn’t keep up with all the restrictions
I tried it for about 2 years. It made migraines worse and actually gave me acne ( I have combination skin but never before full blown acne) among other side effects. My doctor dismissed my symptoms but I decided to not continue taking it as I only manifested side effects but marginal results ( hair loss was not progressing but did not improve)
I used spironolactone for almost 20 days,, the first week was okay but after that i couldn’t sleep,i really couldn’t sleep for days so i stopped it
The doctor put me on blood pressure meds, two kinds, gabapentin for pain in my shoulder and prednisone, all of these caused me to gain 16 pounds in three weeks. I didn’t need any of them. My blood pressure was up because I was in pain. When the pain was gone my pressure was good. IB Prophen and Tylenol worked just fine for pain, I didn’t need the others. I have gone off of those drugs about a month ago and have been able to get off ten pounds, but I still am battling the other 6 pounds.
Hi ladies! I see a lot of you commenting about how acne and body hair is a problem for you, well I got prescribed Spironolactone from my doctor and it really has helped me!! Plz ask your doctor about this my skin has cleared up soo much and well I never had a body hair issue but I can tell it grows in significantly slower!
I’m thinking about going on this drug. Can you please give us an update on how your doing now? Thanks!
At this point I’m genuinely curious about something: I’ve been on birth control since I was diagnosed and have stopped gaining weight, have no acne, my body hair has gone back to normal and all other symptoms I had were gone within the first month of taking it. Now it’s just a matter of losing the weight I had gained before BC (which is still very frustrating). Since my experience with BC was so positive, I’m curious as to why so many people seem to be against it having never tried it. I’m Italian and it’s quite normal here to take BC because of PCOS, no one even questions it. Could you guys explain to me why lots of people refuse to take it? I’m a bit ignorant on the matter, my doctor simply told me I’m not likely to be affected by the sideffects given my blood tests and stuff, but never really explained all of them.
So many American females are shrill and nasal. Listening to them is like fingernails on a blackboard.
I was diagnosed at 15. BC helped regulate my period and went off of it at 17. I got pregnant 4 times, but lost one ovary at 29. My diet is already limited, I can’t eat processed/dairy because of IBS, I can’t eat more than once a day (maybe 2 meals a day, if my blood sugar drops) and I eat smaller portions than my 10 year old. I’ve had three doctors say my body retains a lot of fluid (I once had so much fluid in my body, I had to have a catheter.) I gained 20lbs… I’ve gained at total of 70lbs over the past 5 years. I can’t even walk for two days out of the month due to cramping… If I cut out much more, I won’t eat anything aside from water.
Hey Dr Berry how about Minoxidil for Hi Blood pressure I’m taking that and Gabapentin OMG i’m in trouble
Spiro lowers one’s sex drive. It is used un geriatrics for pts with dementia who cannot control their sexual urges
What about Wellbutrin XL? I lost 10 pounds in the beginning, 8 months in I’ve gained it all back plus more!!!
I got diagnosed in October of 2018 at 12 years old, I am now 13 and I’m very scared to do anything. I’m 5’4” and 263 lbs. I have not had my period with blood, but my hormone doctor said that I’ve been having a period for three years, just no blood. I’ve tried almost everything and nothing helps.
Fabulous info!!!!!
Thanks Dr!!!
You ROCK!!!!!
At 58+ years old, no prescript meds here & rarely any OTC
Arthritis is an issue & I’m working on the diet to help control it
Sugar absolutely has an impact
as does a day or more of not moving enough
I have a regular date with my treadmill & light weights
Love physical work outside!!!
Come on spring!!!
Have a beautifully blessed day!!!!!
Thanks again!!!!!
Hi Dr. Dray! Is the ok to take spironolactone only a week before the acne starts to flare up around my period? Instead of the daily dose
Thank you for this information. I am on several medications. Can a combination of medications not on your list cause weight gain? Such as Effexor XR and blood pressure medications?
Great video Jovana, it inspired my girlfriend to try supplements to help her shed a few lbs. Although she felt amazing and great after taking a few, she found great results from Leptitox!
You can find it here: @t
Thanks for inspiring my girlfriend, I thought she looked amazing to begin with but your video helped her feel more positive about herself and motivated to continue her journey. Thanks Jovana!
I totally get it that you decided to try this medicine. It sounds great and the price really is surprisingly reasonable. I am having minor acne usually after my period and it bugs me to a certain point. And I’m 43 I wonder if that would work for me. Thank you so much for sharing!
I take that stuff for heartissues. My doctor told me 25mg a day but I take 50 mg
I’m almost 4 months on 100 mg Spirolactone and still waiting for results.. I’m gonna ask my doctor to higher my dose to 200 mg. I hope that will work because at this point I feel hopeless
I’ve been taking it for about 5 months. 50mg 3 months and 100mg for 2 months. The only side effects it gave me was the first week I peed a lot and it made me super nauseous because I took it in the morning. That doesn’t happen anymore because I take it a night and my body probably got used to it. I haven’t had my period since I started it though… (which I don’t complain about honestly) My acne has decreased a bit but nothing drastic:( I really hope it starts working soon.
Dr Berry, I been keto for a couple years in response to being told I was pre diabetic and had high blood pressure, now my doctor prescribed me Lisinopril because my blood pressure is still high. What is your opinion about Lisinopril?
Do you have to avoid potassium containing foods while you are on this? That’s a question I have for my derm, and you mentioned the potassium, so I thought I would ask. I don’t know if I could live without spinach, sweet potatoes, avocados (don’t eat that many bananas, but they have a lot too).
Make a video on dutasteride and finasteride for men’s and women’s hair loss
Spironolactone has been a miracle drug for me. I am on a high dose for acne, and while I still get some breakouts and my skin is still oily, I don’t get the awful, long-lasting, painful cystic bumps along my jawline anymore. The difference it has made on my self esteem is immeasurable.
Dr Dray can I use Spironolactone with topical retinoids like RetinA?
hi i’m 16 and i got my period when i was 14. my period was always irregular sometime i get it every month sometime every 3 months and up to 4 or 5 months i’m scared that i might have pcos cause my mother have same problem. but i’m little bit overweight 61 kg and im 1.68 cm
….. help me plz i want to have kids when i grow up. and i want to lose weight 57 kg is good.. but i’m a type O+ blood soo i need to eat meet and dairy and stuff non vegetarian but i don’t care i just want to get my period regularly and lose weight and be healthy with my type O+ blood and be abel to have kids
Is it safe to take Biotin in conjunction with 50mg of Spironolactone daily?
I suffer fibromyalgia and reumatoide arthritis. Do you have any suggestions?
I take birth control. But I dont take estrogen because it caused me a blood clot. Im 17 and my doctor is recommending me getting an IUD because my symptoms get finicky if I accidentally take it to late and im very forgetful. PCOS has ruined my life. I am overweight and prediabetic. It is really hard. Im trying to lose weight to help fix my insulin resistance
Everything else regarding insulin levels, says to eat less frequently, even intermittent fasting. It makes sense because when you eat carbs, insulin spikes. When you eat protein, insulin goes up a little, and when you eat fat, insulin barely goes up. Which leads to the keto diet…which freaking works…but is so hard for me! The Tedtalk on insulin by a dr Sarah was amazing. I did keto last year and lost a bunch of weight, cured all my cysts, and I got preg w #6 (not to mention, to my dr’s surprise, improved my triglycerides, cholesterol, and undid the advanced fatty liver damage I had). Now that I have 6 kids, I am having a hard time getting back into keto.:( And stress is inevitable w 6 kids. I love being their mom, and want to be healthy for them. Prayers please!
I just found out today I had pcos, I have been told by lots of happy go-skinny doctors just to “eat less” and “exercise more”. God if it was that easy if they knew what I had. But today there was this doctor that my size and told me that I had pcos. I am a wrestler and the exercise regimen they keep us on is pcos friendly but its not working. I have been at 190lbs for 6 months which is freaking holding me back from wrestling tournaments and matches. I just feel like crying and giving up on this because I have been exercising vigorously twice a day at school and incorporating lifting for 1hr and running doing bleachers 3 times a day plus running endless miles(3-5) for 3 times a week and I am freaking doing everything possible. I don’t want to give up but in the process of doing the right things I feel like a failure
DIM is a natural route that my dermatologist suggested before I started taking spironolactone. Oh and I also tried pantothenic acid that did reduce my acne but unfortunately didn’t clear it due to the severity of it. Try those out (:
Thank you for sharing your story. Might be the push I need to finally go see a dermatologist for my skin issues. I don’t know why I’ve put it off so long. It’s not like not being formally diagnosed with hormonal acne means I don’t have acne….I’ve always been scared of dermatologists being judgey about my skin though.
For bad acne try potatoe and lemon juice on your face. First make sure your face is very clean and free of makeup. Then grate a small potatoe and squeeze the juice from it into a small bowl. Then juice one lemon and mixed the juices together. I use a paper towel and soak up some of the juice on it. Then I put it all over my face, hands, arms, and neck. Leave this on for at least 30 minutes, but the longer the better. You may experience mild burning and itching from the lemon juice, especially if you have acne or open sores, but it will only last a few minutes. Try fanning any burning areas for relief from this. Over time this will also work for dark spots because the lemon juice is a natural bleach. After about a week you will notice a difference. My skin is as soft as a baby’s butt from this. Another thing I do is, after I rinse off the potatoe and lemon juice, I apply Gold Bond rough and bumpy skin lotion to my face, hands, and arms. This did work to get rid of my rough and bumpy skin I had on my arms in about a week and I had lived with that for years. I love the way my arms feel now! ☺
Someone share recipes for this healthy eating. Even vegetables and fruits are processed. Anyone got
Recipes that have a lot of veggies, fruits, and some meats?
How can you tell if it is making your hair loss worse?!? I’ve been on minoxidil 2 years and it helped a lot, but I still would have a lot of shedding. I think certain medicines or stress would cause TE. (I think I stopped the offending medicines, maybe Lo LoEstrin is a culprit?) I’ve been on Spironolactone 50 mg 2 x a day dose for a month and a half and I think my hair fall might be worse than ever. My kidney function blood test came back normal. I’m afraid about this shed. Some people said Spironolactone made their hair loss worse and then their hair never came back. I don’t know what to do except continue the minoxidil and see if I can stand this shed. Anyone else have this experience? Did it get better if you wait and see on Spironolactone?
I’m taking risperdal for about a month now 0.5 mg I feel tired all the time gained 7lbs….I was wondering do i have to wean myself off if only been on them for a month???? I dont see my psychiatrist for another month…
I’m so mad your doctor told you that going on birth control will ensure you get your period! On birth control, you only get a monthly bleed but you dont ovulate. That’s not a menstrual period! I guess he meant it does allow your endometrium to shed and that is true. But with PCOS after getting off birth control your body may have a lot of trouble ovulating on it’s own again so beware.
Hiii, I was diagnosed two days ago with PCOS and was prescribed metformin and yeah I got the loose stool. I saw this video was 9 months ago. How much weight have you lost now?
Metformin and regular exercise helped my insulin resistence issues most.
Hi!! I just started this. Kind of nervous but hoping it will work
Guess I’m going to stop taking my gabapentin STAT! I’d rather look and feel in shape than feel and look like a fat blob.
I also am on seroquel, which is a KNOWN “weight gainer”.
Which oral contraceptives are weight gainers? Sprintec? If so, please let me know! I’ll switch to something else. I wish I had a doctor like this one! Thanks for all the advice.
I workout at the gym 1.5-2 hours a day 24/7/365 so the idea of a medication causing me to not get in shape and waste all this time at the gym really bothers me.
Thank you SO much for the video!
So amazing! Thanks for sharing! I just started spironolactone today! I’m so excited!
I have an important question!! So I was prescribed 50mg but to take 2 tablets a day so 100mg all together. I been getting some side effects like lightheaded, dizziness, headaches here and there, irregular mental, sometime a little nauseous, and a little sluggish.
I just think I’m not taking it right. It’s only been a month right now I have been one it.
I’m NOT SURE how far apart I’m suppose to take them apart?
HELP PLEASE
I have also pcos and I took a lot of weight recently birth control didnt help me at all ok this side so I decide to stop it I will give a try for intermitent fasting hopefully see some result I saw some comments talking about body hair and pcos well for body hair I found a solution that can help some here give a try to flash light therapy at home I use the brand calor and it works great for me I do a session every 2 weeks or 1 in month and I almost have no hair on legs arms or belly it does also work on the face but didnt try it yet but it might work as well:)
Thanks for this! I think it’s really important that you should slowly change your diet. That’s what im doing right now because I recently found out that I do have PCOS. Although I consume a good amount of vegetables, I still am slowly cutting out the dairy and sugar out of my diet. Baby steps!
Did this allow you to keep the weight off after stopping the drug provided you kept your diet the same? THanks!
I had fried fish with a side of mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese which I could barely finish( I know carb-a-Holic) but I got so sick after eating it I couldn’t even look at food and had the really loose stools.
Lexapro is what my dr gave me for hot flashes. Ive been on it for over 2 years and my withdrawal is unbearable when i when i try to stop. Weening does not help. I have extremely bad brain zaps. Can you help. And does this drug cause me to loose ability to loose weight and my sex drive is Gone!
Wow I really loved your video. This was actually the first helpful video about pcos that I’ve come across
As a possible alternative to steroids for lung/bronchial inflammation, try a high quality coconut oil at least three times a day, some Braggs apple cider vinegar three times a day (two tbl spoons if you can), and a healthy dose of oregano oil in a small amount of water, to be swallowed right down… chaser, okay! Make sure the oregano oil has at least 80% Carvacrol. Hit these three together and hit them hard… don’t just give up after a day. Then take daily. Once the bronchitis bacteria get into your lungs/bronchia, they are nearly impossible to get rid of; but this stuff will keep them tamped down if you are diligent.
By the way, one Internet source says that steroids work AGAINST the discs in our spines… SO, another good reason to avoid them. Trust me, you DO NOT want your discs to pancake!!!!!!!
Hi DR. Does spironolactone cause birth defects after you are off the medication?? Can you please let me know or anyone let me know. Thank you
Please do you know an alternative or two to Mirtazapin I might ask my doctor about? I would like to see him somewhat with a plan what I would ask about to make it short I take that pill against anxiety and silly as it is, I am afraid to go to the doctor, too. Since I take this medicine, I am gaining slowly but surely weight. Now you are right, this really does not make me a happier person at all. What I did against this myself is I changed to a ketogenic diet Which I discovered in you channel. Thank you so much in advance. Greetings from Germany.
I was diagnosed with PCOS Feb 2019, I didn’t start Metformin until Dec. 2019 and I feel great! They could hold back on the diarrhea/loose stool though lol I used to be irritable but I noticed that has changed! Yes!! My sleep changed too! I used to wake up at 2-4am and my sleep sucked. I took long naps. I love it!! I am noticing a difference this first month
What if you have seen improvement and then you stop taking it will the acne come back? The first time I take it I had experience menstrual delay which I don’t like I don’t want to be dependent on this drug.
Just wanted to ask for all who commented here and get an idea… if you would be eyeing to take a pills should you consult an o gyme or a dermatologist?? Im always confused where to go
Can spirolactone be used to treat water retention from bulimia? I know some doctor will prescribed 25mg for their patients
Thank you for sharing, it’s so informative and that’s what I wanted to hear nor look into. I’m a new subscriber !!
I’m glad I’m not alone, thought I was alone, I just found out mine about a week ago ♀️ is just feels like trapped
Did your skin “purge” like breakout really bad when you started taking it?? Also do you have before pics?! I am struggling with the exact same thing, mild hormonal acne and my doctor just prescribed it
I’ve been taking this for over a year and I still get breakouts during my cycle but other than that my breakouts have ceased. Considering I used to break out every day, I’m pleasantly surprised with this treatment.
Why does Spironolactone make it hard for me to breathe? Just took 50 mg a few hours ago and I got chest tightness and breathing problems.
Thank you Dr. Berry for the information. Does my asthma medicine, Asmanex twisthaler 220mcg, (Mometasone furoate) cause me to gain weight? Is their an alternative?
There’s nothing wrong with being on birth control. At all. For any amount of time. I appreciate your video, but I wish people would stop saying it’s bad to be on birth control. It’s not. It works for some people and doesn’t for others. And taking hormones isn’t bad when you have PCOS. You have a hormonal imbalance, so you take hormones to balance it. It’s logical.
Wouldn’t taking something like BC or Aldactone be like putting a bandaid on the underlying issue? I’m speaking in the case of using it to control acne. I’ve also seen many people ask questions like “can this therapy be used life long or if l stop taking it, will my acne flare up”, but an answer has not been offered up. I understand that it’s a case by case thing, but in your experience what have you seen? Can one take Aldactone or BC for the rest of their life to control acne?
Thankyou Dr. Dray!! Could you do a video of Spironolactone vs OCPs for hormonal acne/pcos? In terms of side effects, efficacy, long term use.. Thank you!
Why does she talk like she’s pissed off about something lmfaooo
I’ve been diagnosed with T.E (Im not sure if its chronic yet). Ive been on BCP for over 5 years. Is Spironolactone something that could help with my T.E? I’ve seen my fam doctor, a dermatologist and an OBGYN about this and they all told me there’s nothing I can do about hair loss. Its been almost a year and I haven’t seen any regrowth, so Im at a loss as to what to do.
Hi are you still taking metformin? What’s your condition now?
Will this help both hormonal acne and non-hormonal acne? In addition will this grow longer hair?
I wish doctors would explain what a Diuretic means. This is the third time a doctor has said this was a Diuretic. When I hear Diuretic and go to the bathroom I thought it meant I would have diarrhea or have to poop more often. It took a nurse to explain that diuretic means peeing more often. Sometimes I think doctors forget to include some explainations that seem common but what their patients don’t know.
hi Dr. Dray! I love your videos. I was wondering if spironolactane will effect implant birth control such as nexplanon?
Thank you so much for this post. You explain so much and make this option less scary.
It’s totally not worth avoiding certain things it if you’re struggling to be more cruelty free or vegan. I get migraines soooo often and I take a decent amount of excedrin/ibuprofen. It’s not worth it to me to be laying in bed all day with a migraine, when I could take an excedrin and enjoy my life, or do something productive. Ya know what I mean? We all do the best we can!
Stubied doctors give medication to people like there animals am so a gry
Was diagnosed with pcos 2 weeks ago had higher a1c Started metformin today my dr recommended taking 250mg at first then increase to 500mg over time, I am also on a double hormone birth control pill and trying a low carb diet with at least 20min workout a day
I am type 2 diabetic, have had a c-peptide test, was told I was making virtually no insulin. If I don’t take insulin, my sugars run in the 400’s. I can’t take metformin, my body gets deathly ill. I have stage 4 CKD so can’t take a lot of the diabetic medications that send sugar out through the kidneys. I take both Lantus and Novalog. Since starting to take them I have gained over 70 pounds. I feel like I’m stuck. Even on the keto diet I still have to take Lantus because my liver is constantly cranking out sugar. I also take metoprolol because it is eliminated through the liver, not the kidneys. What do I do?
Dr Berry, what about humolin N and R and prednisolone eye drops?
I’ve was on efexor Xr 150mg was not eating properly i been on amitriptyline for a week im eating like there is no tomorrow
Iam on 47.5mg of metoprolol and the best thing I did was dieted b4 I started the medication and iam luck to continue losing weight as iam on the medication for my blood pressure.. I’ve lost 17kg in 2months witch I think is good
I really needed this video. Someone to explain it in simple terms, calmly and positively… Thank you <3
I really wish I had run into the “Yamzoko Weebly” (Gοoglε it) a long time ago. I lose 12 lbs in three weeks so far. There is certainly still need of work outs even just a couple of times a week as well as the foods to consume must be best. It showed astounding outcomes for me. Certainly, this plan is strongly suggested and I also do wish this would give good results to you too mainly because it did to me..
I was diagnosed PCOS, rosacea, adult acne and fibroids this year. I am on spirolactone and two anti biotics and metformin. I intend to use food as my medicine and get off of my prescriptions. God gave us what we need to heal out bodies. Last month I cut back on dairy, fried foods, and sugars, and meat and I feel a lot better. I’m basically doing a dairy free keto. I lost about 5 pounds which is not a lot, but I will keep tweaking until I figure out what works. I feel hopeful. I drink organic spearmint tea with sweetener or no sugar and its helped with my rosacea. I love mint tea. They road to healing is to research and know that you are NOT alone. Keep up the good fight ladies.
You are just so beautiful. I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago and have been vegan for just over 3 years. I’ve always been big and tried to lose weight. I’ve always eaten healthy and when i switched to being vegan I thought I’d lose something. But I keep piling on the pound. I’m getting really down about it. I have been for a while and I’m so tired of trying so hard, to just keep on getting fatter. What can I do.
Hello everyone, i’ve been taking spironolactone for 3 months and my hair started to fall out in clumps, did this happen to anyone…? I know it’s from spiro 100%
I’m 17 and i was recently diagnosed with pcos, i had my first period very early (i was 11) and when i was 13 i started having irregular periods with a heavy blood flow during periods combined with severe abdominal pain. I started gaining weight in just a few months i went from 45 to 55 lbs and more in the future. Now i know and i understand that it’s Soo hard to lose weight and maintain a steady weight, i mean I’m a teen and i have body image issues, so i started working out. The results are slow, very slow. All i can recommend is a HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING. Try it, i swear it works in every body type and it helps us with pcos. The other important thing is to not skip meals, have a good breakfast with all the elements and cut down on carbs. No dairy, i know it hurts i personally love dairy but no dairy. Exercise atleast 5-6 times a week. And above all don’t give up.
Is it dangerous to take it if I don’t have hormonal problems? Should I consult a doctor?
Hi Dr. Dre. My dermatologist put me on Spironolactone 100 mg in conjunction with using 5% benzyl peroxide in the morning and a lower prescription strength tretinoin at night. Do you think my acne make it worse before it gets better?
Everything she said was right on point these are the symptoms i go through. I am glad i seen this Video
I talked to my doctor about hair loss and he took me off birth control because a side effect was hair loss. I’m already on thyroid medication and numbers are good. This was 8 months ago. I have been patiently waiting because I know hair growth will take a while to see results but now I’m wondering if I need to see a dermatologist instead of my GP.
This is really helpful!! I think if there was less jump cuts it would be a smoother video. You’re the expert! No need to cut up the video
I had pcos and i was diagnosed at 16yo. I took pills for years and just 1 pill completely regulate my period completely but it made me fat. Im scared to try metformin because im afraid it could stop and make me irregular again. Please tell me i was wrong because I want to lose weight
I’m taking this soon. How long can you take it for and do u have to stay on it for it to control the hormone imbalance or will it balance it and you can stop taking the pills
I’m so over my PCOS. I was diagnosed back when I was 15 and have been on birth control ever since, however this last year I gained a TON of weight and started getting acne which I had never ever had before and it’s so depressing and disheartening to see old pictures of myself compared to me now. I started working out and eating what I think is health and I have had very little weight loss. I’m so fed up with it.
Thank you for sharing! I have a hormonal imbalance due to stage 4 endometriosis ( had my left ovary and Fallopian tube removed last year) and my skin completely changed and I developed hormonal acne quite rapidly. I started 100 mg Spiro last week and I think my skin is purging. My derm said some people experience purging and others don’t. Did you experience any? I’m hoping it clears relatively quickly:’(
Up to a couple years back I had struggled with a pretty bad acne for many years, tried so many otc treatments and prescription medications too and nothing would work long term. I finally decided to try isotretinoin (Accutane-like medicine) and it has done miracles for my skin. 3 years later it’s still free of acne. It’s not perfect, I still have have other issues with my skin, but comparing to what it looked like before, I feel so much more confident and happy to be able to walk outside of tge house without makeup that I don’t even care about the scarring or blackheads or occasional pimple. But I went on that therapy before I was vegan and cruelty free and I often find myself thinking if I would still do that now. And I guess that yes, I would, because it has improved my quality of life so immensely that it would be hard to explain to somebody who has never dealt with such a problem. I believe that science and medicine are wonderful iventions that we should be able to benefit from them and hopefuly, as we as the human kind progress, we will ditch the cruel outdated ways of testing all the drugs on animals. It’s a very complex subject but I’m so happy that you have such a reasonable attitude towards it! Thanks for making another awesome video girl!
I have pcos and I had facial hair, difficulty with losing weight, abnormal periods, and acne possibly more. Since I started exercising and taking metformin I lost weight, regular periods, no more acne and the hair doesn’t grow as much. But like she said what works for me, may not work for you. Seek professional help and also my doctor at one point told me I might not be able to conceive and I have two beautiful girls.
Thank you. This video pulled me out of a downward spiral induced by PCOS kicking my ass.
SPIRONOLACTONE FOR HORMONAL ACNE (WITH BEFORE + AFTER PICTURES) MY EXPERIENCE AND WHY I DECIDED TO STOP TAKING IT // In this video, I talk about how I got rid of my hormonal acne using spironolactone and show you before and after pictures. I also talk about my experience taking spironolactone and why I stopped taking it.
It made my acne worse but it did slightly decrease the amount of sebum my skin produced.
I just got diagnosed with PCOS about 4-6 months ago (I was 14 when I got diagnosed now I’m 15) so I’m glad people are open about it and I hope to start soon
Did metformin change your body shape and where you stored fat?
I’ve been on tretonion since December, it wasn’t prescribed by a doctor, my aunt got it for me from Mexico. My acne hasn’t improved yet.
Then I started the oral birth control pill on Jan 15. My acne hasn’t improved yet.
Then I started Spirinolactone March 16, so 1 1/2 weeks ago.
I kind of want to stop using Tretenion. Should I stop using it? Or continue along with the other stuff too?
Hi dr dre! I’ve been on spirno for several months now and have been on 75 milligrams per day now my urine is starting to smell odd and I’m kinda worried, any thoughts?
Does cystic hormonal acne that came on suddenly mean you have PCOS? I don’t believe I have any of the other symptoms, but I feel like it’s definitely representative of a hormonal imbalance.
I actually had a complete different experience with Spironolactone. My dermatologist started me with smaller doce and increased me up to 200mg and then after a couple of months lowered me and now im on as needed so i take it like once a week. My skin completely cleared up after 2 months, one of the weird side effects i had was that it helped my head hair look fuller and actually decreased!!!! the hair growth on the rest of my body so was a huge plus! lol Now i rarely shave..! ha (Not saying everyone has the same side effects) After being on it, my period regulated and its back to normal! I would say for everyone who has hormonal acne problems to at least give it a try. It super safe to use and as known this medication is used to treat high blood pressure, and your dermatologist will need labs every 3-6 months as your on the medication and make sure you are not feeling light headed or feeling tired (usual symptoms if your BP is low but can easily be fixed with the right diet, just have to ask your doctor what can you eat/what helps bring up your BP) for me was simply drinking a lot more water because IT DOES MAKE YOU PEE! i was going to the bathroom so much and i did notice i felt light headed because i was dehydrated. I am so thankful i was prescribed this medication and it helped balance my hormones!:)
Someone in here have a good experience with this medication and if this stop the hair loss????
Hey Dr! Please please comment on:
Spironolactone 25 mg(Acne, PCOS, hair loss) daily & Ashwagandha 250mg daily(For stress). Is this advisable?
I was prescribed this and I have been SO hesitant to take it because of the side effects I read! This was very helpful thank you!
Forgive me but as a long term user of Spironolactone in the U.K., I can say with authority that it’s a diuretic. I have an auto immune disease and use this medication daily, for water retention. The diuretic aspect is not a side effect, but it’s main function.
Hi Dr. Berry. I take metoprolol for Angina and blood pressure. What I want to know can I start a Keto Diet to help the weight gain. Please help!!!
Hi Dr Dray! Can spiro cause a dread shed after the first weeks of assumptions? Doctors told me no, but I see different opinions online… thank you!
I started my spiro today. I’m on 100 mg. 50mg twice a day. I have PCOS. I just had an iud placed. I didn’t want the iud to cause the acne to get worse. My doc is awesome. I hope I have clear beautiful skin like you soon.
Beautiful girl and your skin tone is amazing like gold. Great teaching.
Try Maca. I was numerous BC for over 10 years and within a 2 months I got regular periods. Now a year later regular periods as long as I take it every other day in capsule form.
I have been taking it for hormone issues. But it makes my blood pressure really low from 85 to below a hundred. My pulse is around 80 or higher. Anyone has the same problem?
What are your protein sources other than nuts and beans? I heard soy is not bad because it has estrogen in it unless it’s fermented
Just got put in spironolactone for my hairloss from accutane its really bad so hopefully this works
I’m on the same regimen; but using 75 mg. So thankful for this medicine and the tretinoin! Can we get a skincare routine? ❤️
how about zinc and life extension prostate formula will they make you gain weight
Is Clegenatur Methods helpful to have bigger and firmer breast naturally? We’ve learn many good things about Clegenatur Methods (look on google search engine).
Birth control is such a bad idea. Especially for women with PCOS.
Almost a month taking sprino and i have seen the result…my acne become lesser I love it
Does friocet cause weight gain? While it has helped my migraines I have noticed that when I have to take it more then once a day I gain weight
I’ve been on spironolactone for about 2-3 weeks & is it normal to have a purge phase? Bc My acne got a lotttt worse and I’m scared it will get worse. Does it get worse before it gets better?
Im on Carbamazepine ER… AKA Tegretol Please what do you know about this medication.. Thank you
Thank you for this video.. I’ve been watching so many people who inspire me to lose weight but they don’t have pcos. I’ve lost 30 pounds so far and I want to lose another 70. You inspire me!
Did the spironolactone affect ur period? I just started taking it today and I heard it can stop ur period and cause it to be irregular and cause random spotting
Iv been on methadone for the last 15 years
And its made me get flabby. Its nippy not being able to loose wait
As a person with PCOS, I guess I’m lucky that I can sometimes get away with eating some packaged and processed foods.
Sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with PCOS. I am 27 and I have dealt with it since I was 13. I am NOW getting my pcos under control lol (basically not listening to doctors who say the same basic info about losing weight and taking pills ) Doctors usually want to give you metformin and birth control. They help with some symptoms (masking it) but it doesn’t address the causes. Metformin helps in managing insulin resistance in most cases. Metformin helps for some. Personally, it did nothing for me besides making me go to the bathroom if I did not eat enough for it. I found alternate holistic approaches and have been controlling everything with regular periods (haven’t been on birth control since for 4 years). I kinda do keto but not strict with it. I just focus on what you shouldn’t consume too much of. Look into intermittent fasting. Definitely look into nutritionist and professionals who focus on addressing the root causes for PCOS. Check what vitamins and minerals you are deficient in. Metformin and PCOS, in general, makes you more deficient in certain vitamins. You will be surprised what causes your PCOS to get worst (carbs, dairy, etc). Also with working out, try HIIT and resistant training. Using weights and working out your muscles makes you more sensitive to insulin. Too much cardio just causes increased cortisol levels which in already an issue with most patients with PCOS. Good luck on your journey and listen to your body.
Thanks your sharing.. I bought spironlactone some days ago.I used with 100mg twice a day ( 50mg for morning, 50mg for evening). But i was confused and worried about that i had bad headache and dizzy, sometimes i wanna vomit. Can you explain for me the reason why i had some bad symtoms like that:(?
Dr. Dray would you still recommend taking spironolactone without birth control for androgenic alopecia? I’m hesitant to start BC again after previous bad reactions to the pill. Thank you! Your videos have been extremely helpful, especially with evaluating the potential long-term effect with spironolactone.
My pcp put me on Xanax 0.5 at QHS, Does it cause weight gain?
Dr. Berry, does bupropion tend to cause weight gain as well?
I took this for acne and hair loss and my periods completely went away. Now my husband and I want to try for a baby so I quit taking the medication and am wait to get my period back. Does anyone have any info for me on this? I’m so stressed it might not come back and no baby for me
Hi! So a year ago i had an insane hormonal acne breakout which caused milia as well and It made me really depressed. I even completely changed my diet to being a vegetarian and that still didnt help. I finally decided to consult a derma and she put me on Spironolactone 50mg! Its been week 3 and although i did go thru a bad purging stage, i can slowly start seeing progress. It’s controlled the acne flareups + my milia as well. As for side effects, i can feel myself getting more tired quicker but nothing too bad. I really to see my skin clear by the time CA is out of lockdown!
Wow. So glad I’ve watched this video. I started putting weight on few years ago and have tried everything to lose weight but couldn’t even lose 1 pound even though I only eat about 1400 cals a day (although I’ve switched to keto since Jan). I’ve seen doctors, dietician, endocrinologist, even paid to see a professor in endocrinology and got no answers. Has lots of tests to rule things out including ruling out Cushings. All the professionals were given a list of symptoms, diet and medication. Recently found a thread on a forum about the side effects of citalopram which I have been on for 3 and a half years. So many others having the same issues as me. So I started tapering off the drug 5 weeks ago. I’ve also been taking propranolol and naproxen for around 4 years! Omg no wonder I’m in this mess. I’ve recently been trying cbd oil to help with nerve pain and anxiety so I’m now going to replace both these other drugs with cbd and get off all 3. I’ve literally been driven to despair over all this and may possibly have my answers now. I can’t thank you enough Dr B.
Love your vids!
Im in nursing school and watch you and others (de fung) so greatful for drs like you!
Btw Tn is hime for me!
What do you think of enhance bust size naturally by using Clegenatur Methods? I see many people keep on speaking about Clegenatur Methods.
Dear Jovanathanks for sharing you knowledge it is helpful and you are so sweet. I struggle with the same condition. I have done hours and hours of research and I agree with you in terms of the “food is medicine.” By far that is consistant way to “heal’ I noticed that you mentioned birth control and I have heard that birth control can really affect a women’s body negatively and it just covers up the PCOS symptoms. Once you get off of it your irregular periods will return and you may also still struggle getting pregnant, danger of breast cancer. I see a Naturopathic doctor and she has given me supplements which can increase my insulin resistance or other things that can deal the PCOS symptoms thoroughlylike inositol (I do a brand called conceve from green first because the blend is good for youincreases insulin resistance and fertility), also cortisolv which helps with cortisol levels, progesterone during certain days within my period, spironalactin, etc. She also has me “chart my cycle” by following something that not all doctors do which is Creighton Model NFP or Napro Technology (they also advocate for organic birth control). It is good because allows the women to pay attention to her natural body symptoms and see what is really wrong with her particular cycle or PCOS, etc. She and her doctor can then help her body accordingly versus the one size fits all that may happen with birth control. All of this things I mentioned really deal with the wide range of issues. Although 2 of those things are prescriptions, they are better than the prescription birth control. I hope this helps I would be glad to share more links/info if you are interestedhere are some…1 https://www.fertilitycare.org/ (find out more about Creighton Model and Napro Technology) (here you can find doctors or trained health care providers that know about this too). This technology has proven to be good both for the women and also for those couples struggling to conceive ( you can still wait to conceive too) 2I also found a Doctor/author called Dr. Fiona Mcculloth https://drfionand.com/ she gives a lot of good info too and explainsshe had youtube videos too. I believe she also doesn’t like birth control for the same reasons I noted, I like 90% of her work, but I don’t like her IVF stuff and she doesn’t use the Creighton Model, otherwise she says a lot of the same things my doctor says and she backs it up with science. I hope you are doing well. I just wanted to share since you mentioned concerns about coming off the pill. Best wishes to you and feel free to reach out.
First few days on Metformin; most definitely curbs appetite. I tend to have sugar cravings during the later part of the day and was able to eat more mindfully with Metformin. Good stuff!
I’m currently waiting for my lab results to see if I have PCOS. I have all the symptoms. I used to have really beautiful thick hair but it’s been thinking so much and I’m super sensitive about it. As well as struggling with my weight, which has been hard since I was about 13. Your the first YouTuber/ YouTube video I’ve seen and your really nice, I can’t wait to see more of your videos:) ❤️
Hello Dr. Dray! Thank you for such informative video. I was wondering if spironolactone permanently treats the acne or will acne return back after I stop taking the pill. Also how long is the treatment with spironolactone recommended for? Is it safe for long term use?
Did you stop suddenly or taper off? The side effects have gotten bad for me so I’m considering stopping
I’ve suspected I have pcos for a short time due to my grand lack of my period. At some point I didn’t get my period for a year, and I get it once a year if I’m lucky. I noticed I have been getting random hairs under my chin, and my acne is a lot more stubborn. I gain weight so easily, and I swear to whatever higher power there might be, that even if I exercise persistently, the change I make seems to almost be non-existent; it makes me feel hopeless a lot of the times. I kept blaming everything on myself, because the people around me would always say thay maybe I didn’t want my weight loss “enough” or say negative things on my weight, but I am starting to think maybe it isn’t necesarily my fault after all. Problem is I have no medical insurance or anything like that whatsoever, and it’s just one of those things that adds more gasoline to the fire. I know no one will read, but just felt like putting that out my system, because everyone around me is thin, eat so much and don’t gain any weight, so nobody I know personally can relate. I’m trying a pursuing a new approach today, I hope it works, and like you said in your previous video, I’ll stay away from the scale. It really does drive me insane a lot of the times.
Hi Dr. Berry, So glad I found you! Questions about specific meds: Cymbalta, Accutane, Alprazolam. Thanks!
I took the maximum dose of Ibuprofen for 20+ years, knowing it was against advice, but not thinking I could survive my chronic pain without it. I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, and I was prescribed it for many of those years, and never told it could cause weight gain that I can remember. I was warned of stomach issues and possible liver, or kidney issues, or something, but not weight. The other thing I was not warned about was that it might make joint pain worse. I finally quit the Ibuprofen after more strong warnings from my doctor (or PA,) and asked for an alternative. I was given Nabumetone. I had been taking a fair bit of turmeric with pepper, and I quit the Ibuprofen and turmeric to begin the Nabumetone. The chronic pain in my left leg just wouldn’t seem to let up. A couple of mornings I put off taking the Nabumetone as early as I normally would, and it seemed better, so this morning I decided not to take it. After I got up, I searched “can nsaids cause pain” and was pretty startled by what I found about joint pain, osteoarthritis, and NSAIDs. From what I found, it would Seem that they can either cause damage to, or prevent the repair of, cartilage in joints. It seems such a contradiction, since they are prescribed as anti-inflammatories and given for that sort of pain all the time. I’m hoping you might have feedback on that Dr. Berry? I am also on Gabapentin, and have been for many years, but with that I was warned of the weight-gain issue. Oh, Metoprolol too though, and no warning there. The good news, I hope though, is that I have begun a carnivore way of eating, and am hoping for much improvement. I’ve had many small victories already, and some pretty big ones as well.
What exactly is Clegenatur Methods? How does this thing really work? I notice a lot of people keep on talking about this popular natural breast enhancement.
Hey I would Like to know which pills help gain weight quickly because I am too skinny and would like to gain some weight
Dr Dray! Thank you! for the vid, question, how long should spiro be taken max?
Hey Dr. Dray. So my problem is I struggle with bad facial hair along with daily constant inflammatory acne. Also severely oily skin but also very dry in winter. Anyways my derms and endocrinologists all say I have androgen sensitivity and that’s why I have these troubles. So they told me my only options are birth control which they won’t let me take due to my migraines. And spiro. Unfortunately I’m not supposed to take that due to my POTS. In the past all my doctors told me I need it desperately to save my skin but it’s too risky with POTS. Just showering is very hard thanks to POTS. I get terrible light headed dizziness, intense nausea waves, bad stomach pain etc. Well my new endocrinologist understands the severe damage my acne and bad facial hair have on my self esteem so she wants to try me on super low dose spiro at night to see if there’s any hope of me tolerating it. She says with POTS I’d be lucky to tolerate even a very small amount and probably it wouldn’t help much anyways. Is spiro ok to take if you have POTS? I have no idea what else I could even do
Do you feel that acne comes back when you’re not consistent at taking Spiro at a certain time? I was consistent for 18 days(started 18 days ago) and my skin started improving, but I fell off on Saturday night, because of the time change. So I feel like that really messed it up for me and my acne has came back! I have really bad breakouts on my face now.
Great video I tried this product and it worked really well for me: https://tinyurl.com/y2e266of
Eating with metformin really doesn’t help like ppl claim because you’re still going to get sick. Metformin will mess your stomach up…..JS
I have PCOS.
I have crazy periods like I’ve had one that lasted 3 whole months like every day for 3 months! And ive skipped 3 months. I’ve been trying to have a baby for 5 years now after a misscarage.
I took spironolactone for a while too..I didn’t notice much in side effects except for the peeing thing. It did seem to control the breakouts which made me happy. I’m glad you stopped when you did because the light headedness sounds really scary!
i’m on spironolactone and seysara for hormonal acne, but i still get cystic pimples and whiteheads sometimes. i was wondering if there’s anything i can do to the pimples (without popping them because i know that’s bad) to get rid of them?
When I was diagnosed I didn’t pay attention much about it being hard to loose weight until recently. I’ve been going to a trainer for a month and have made tremendous changes to my diet and didn’t looses much. Ian’s I’m starting to think it’s from pcos
I hate pcos it ruined my body my fertility and my whole life!!
What exactly is Clegenatur Methods? How does this thing really work? I notice lots of people keep on speaking about this popular breast enhancement.
I also have PCOS. I’m on metformin and progesterone prescribes by my endocrinologist. My mom had pcos as well but had a partial hysterectomy. The metformin will definitely mess your stomach up and as a college student I be struggling to get to class lol. My endocrinologist also warned me that metformin makes you extremely fertile so if you’re not interested in that please use contraceptives!
Dr. Berry, Thank you so much for all of your videos. They are so good and I refer people to them all the time. One question I haven’t been able to find an answer to is this. How do you recommend people with T2D come off of insulin when doing keto and intermittent fasting? In this video you say they shouldn’t be on insulin and so I am really curious what it looks like in your clinic when you have people go Keto and IF AND they are on insulin. I’m sure there are many other people who are on insulin and trying to reverse this with docs who just don’t know. What’s your opinion? Oral meds instead? Is that ok while fasting? Any help would be appreciated!
I am a 72 year old male. I weigh 280 pounds, I have gained 30 pounds in the last 3 months since being put on 25 units of insulin daily. have two compressed discs and get epidurals and take diclofenac and nortriptylline. I also take eliquis, metropolol, amlodipine and lisinopril for high blood pressure. I am lethargic and feel terrible. Can this intermittent fast and keto help me?
Would have loved before pictures, but so loving the thought of being better in 3 months, glad it worked for u! I was put on the same regiment for cystic hormonal acne, never experienced it before. (Annnnd my wedding is in three months )
Does spironolactone make you gain weight? Thanks for this video very informative
I’ve been on it for 5yrs. Please go & do your research before expecting some miracle drug to work without side effects. I’ve experienced horrible hair loss being on this medication. It’s literally falling out in clumps & has gone from being hydrated & shiny, to dry & brittle. I have 1/3 of the amt. of hair I used to. I’m tapering off slowly & really hope my hair comes back. Oh & by the way, the dermatologist told me people take this for hair growth…yeah, I got on it for acne, so unfortunately, it threw my hair into telogen effluvium.
Thank you for this! I have PCOS and have been thinking about trying metformin to help manage my symptoms. Have you noticed if it helps to regulate your period?
I just got a subscription from an online dermatologist for spironolactone and tretinoin. Wish me luck! I hope I have the same results you do!
I spent my teens and early twenties teetering on the edge of this, but what finally pushed me over was actually going on the pill. It was only one stupid month, right after I got married, and I hated it. So I quit, and spent the next year feeling very sick. My doctor told me my symptoms were all in my head, but of course this was the same doctor who thought it would be a good idea to give estrogen pills to an overweight woman with a history of thyroid issues. Body fat is already a source of excess estrogen, and estrogen slows thyroid function, which also means more weight gain. I’ve learned a lot from self study and the functional medicine crowd. The most helpful things I’ve tried have been changing how I eat, just as you’ve mentioned, studying the Fertility Awareness Method, timing my cycles with lunaception, addressing emotional trauma with somatic methods and mindful exercise, and taking a multivitamin for people with poor methylation, since that is how your body gets rid of estrogen. Next up, I’m trying the Fasting Mimicking Diet, which is supposed to be great for insulin resistance and inflammation, and N-Acetyl Cysteine, which I’ve heard is as effective as metformin. I’m also finally really going to try to dig in and lose the weight. Thanks for the encouragement!
Hi Dr Berry I take seasonal antihistamines for hayfever Telfast / 180mg one per day from April to August, i’m in the UK, the advice on NHS website here states that Fexofenadine isn’t known to cause weight gain. I was in a car accident in February which has left me with 7 prolapsed discs and alot of nerve damage nueropathy pain/spasms numbness and physical neck and back pain. I have a tens machine now. I was on pregabablin but this gave me bad side effects and terrible water retention and bloating/weight gain, I was on this for 2.5 months but came off this 3 weeks ago, cut down, had horrendous nerve pain issues so my GP prescribed Nortriptyline which is helping with the nerve pain but I still have a lot of numbness and eptopic pain symptoms. They are talking about pain injections which I know will cause even more weight gain. I had lost 2 stone when I had the accident by 5:2 diet and a lot of exercise, I’ve almost put all this back on in the past 4 months, which is upsetting and i’m so worried the nortryptaline will cause more. I am just trying some herbal medication to help with the nerve pain. Any advice. Thanks
Has anyone tried Clegenatur Methods? (do a google search) We’ve heard numerous amazing things about this popular breast enhancement.
i have pcos, hypothryodism and im insulin resistant… this is gonna be a loooonngg journey
Thankyou so much for making this video! I just recently got diagnosed. Just out of curiosity what were your symptoms?
Can you believe I’m 50, and still taking Spiro? I’ve been taking it for decades, it’s the only thing that helps my hormonal cystic acne. I’ve tried to lower the dose, it comes right back. It seems I’ll be on it like forever.
My doctor just upped my dosage and diarrhea has come full force when I was eating out. I lost a few pounds with exercise. Before with the high insulin resistance, I was not able to lose a pound in a week. It works
Does anybody know if acne comes back after the stop of use of Spiro?
I would love to understand gout.
This was a very helpful video btw! My androgens sky rocketed after coming off birth control with post menopausal range of progesterone in my twenties. I think my adrenals became overworked as the backup system. Since steroids are serving a purpose and keeping my bp from dropping too low I’m still hesitant to take it. I just hate the androgenic hair growth etc. no pcos found on ultrasound. Period normal etc.
Y’all, I was on it for a year and it helped in so many more ways. It grew back my hair on my head, cleared up the hair that was growing on my face, completely got rid of my anxiety AND I lost 25 pounds while on it ( no more crazy cravings ). I finally felt like I was really human. I stopped taking it because I grew up in a house where ” medicine is the devil” so I got worried and quit it. But my life has been hell since, so I’m going back on it. That, plus healthy diet and exercise, cutting out salt and caffeine I should be doing good again.
Thank you so much for sharing, for being realistic and encouraging!
HI GIRLS I WISH YOU ALL BEST!!! CHEER UP WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL❤️
btw I also have PCOS and I’m 16, where at my age physical appearance is such a biggie, I am slowly losing my confidence. I am really having a hard hard time rn, but I know yeah someday I will overcome this. WE will overcome this. So girls pls don’t look down on yourselves, it hurt me seeing girls struggling in losing their weight. Just trust in Him and your time will come.❤️
It’s great getting validation to what you think you knewby a Doctor. Your videos are incredibly helpful. Thank you!
Would you (or anyone) suggest having smaller meals through out the day but being aware of how much you’re eating? I count calories (not super super closely but just to get an estimate of how much I’ve had throughout the day). Do you think that will help? Thanks for the advice!!
My skin was completely clear with 50 mg within a few weeks.
***I wasn’t getting any new breakouts, but the existing cyctic pimples WEREN’T wanting to go! They stayed at few months, while the rest of my skin was clear.
I also purchased an oil free skincare line from my dermotologist called “Faith Lamelabo”. Use the Moisture Lotion BEFORE the Moisture gel light, the lotion is actually a watery serum & the gel is actually a lotion!
These are from Japan & they label things differently.
1)Faith Lamebo gel Cleanse
2)Restorsea Pro Foaming facial cleanser
3)Skin Ceuticals Phloretin CF (this has acids), use a few drops
4)Faith Lamelabo Moisture Lotion, use 2-3 pumps
5)Faith Lamelabo Gel Light, use 1-2 pumps.
6)ISDIN Ultralight Emulsion Broad Sprectrum SPF 50+
Hi, Dr. Dray. I’ve heard that birth control pills are good for the hair. Can generic birth control pills help hair to be healthy and grow looking good? I’m not particularly worried about hair loss, but I’d like to know if that’s an effective method to improve hair’s look and health in men. Thanks in advance.
Hi doctor
What about Janumet 100/50
I believe that I have gained 10 kg within 3 month
Please advise.
Thank you so much for this video! I was finally diagnosed at 19, about 5 years ago. I was given no knowledge about it or tips and I’ve learned over the years doing our own research is better! You mentioned how we should really have more of a long term goal of fighting our PCOS. Last year I hired a trained and I ate healthier and worked out so I lost a lot of weight I was really healthy! But it didn’t fix my PCOS symptoms. And of course I gained that weight back. So I just want to say thank you for the reminder of how important it is to eat WHOLE foods and also how important our mental health is. Thanks girl you rock!
I am currently taking 16 pills per day and have gained a lot of weight. I recently started the intermittent fasting routine and have experienced many benefits so far. The meds that I am not sure cause weight gain are: Amlodipine Besylate, Metformin, Rosuvastatin, Hydrochlorothiazide, Escitalopram, Ramipril, and Divalproex Sodium. Can you tell me if these drugs I’ve listed cause weight gain?
Thank you so much for this informative video. I sat and watched the whole thing. But i would love for you to have a larger audience, I recommend you work on your thumbnail so more viewers can click on your videos, and also have detailed hashtags on your title. thank you again.
Oh wow, I’m so glad this worked out for you! Acne really is the worst I totally agree with you on taking prescription drugs even if it’s not technically life threatening, it’s also not worth feeling miserable!
Love your videos! Does DIM and spironolactone work the same though? I was on spironolactone for a year and went off it 6 months ago because of the side affects as well and I keep hearing about DIM but don’t know much about it. Thanks!
Dr. My friend is transgender and takes Spironolactone for their transition… and it has helped with a previous burning sensation up and down her back and cold feeling pain in her legs. Also eliminates her tremors and bubbly feeling in her lower back.
What does this mean?
Is Sun Chips okay? Sorry, I’m curious. And this would include not adding even just a couple packs raw sugar right? Thank you
Hey girl.
I love ur video. I got diagnosed pcos too and I’m on meftoin now.
Would you consider doing a new update video on how you are feeling and how you are eating now? That would be great.
Greetings from Germany. ☀️❤️
For a 85 year old woman with NO heart failure or serious heart problem, doctor has given Amlopres-5 (Cipla) half a pill in the morning and Spironolactone 25 mg one at noon, for high blood pressure. Not sure if she is a good candidate for Spironolactone specially with its side effects. Also should there be tests for kidneys, liver and potassium after taking this medicine for a few weeks. Also she takes multivitamins that has potassium.
Great review of the drug, though I wish you explained more about using spironolactone in heart failure.
I told my doc back year ago Gabapentin was making me gain weight and want to eat like I was starving. She told me she’d never heard of such a thing and basically acted like I was crazy. I stopped taking them anyway and figured out another way to deal.
I’m only taking 25 mg of aldactone its effective if only take that small dosage only?
So does this slow the growth of my actual hair on my head? I just started this medication
Did you go to your regular doctor when you skipped your period or to a gyno?
Helo mam… i hav a query.. for how long one needs to take spironolactone? Can it be stopped after desired effect is achieved or it is continued life long??
Just started metformin and oh my god when my doctor said diarrhea i didnt know she meant this!
Dr. Berry, wondering if Amlodipine & Spironolactone cause weight gain. I’ve been on these medications since March & I’ve been pretty active the entire time (exercise 3+ days a week). I’ve been eating a keto diet for the past 2 yrs, but only recently (the last 4 months) had a hard time getting the weight off & managing my bp.
Did you ever notice dry skin? I’m just starting week 2 and my skin feels like sandpaper.
Hi Dr Dray,
Please do a video on Metformin for PCOS acne sufferers. ❤️❤️❤️
Dr dray, I’m taking a birth control without estrogen due to breastfeeding. I suffer with severe acne. And I hear this type of birth control can only make it worse? True?:(
I started taking Celebrex for Bursitis the first week of June and noticed I’m gaining weight. I’ve been Keto for 15 months and this is freaking me out! What’s a natural diuretic I can take to get rid of water weight gain?
Today is my first day starting this medication due to my acne. For people who have used it for acne, how long it it take before you saw results?
You said eat whole foods but no gluten. Do you not eat bread?
I would like to point out that I also experienced the same symptoms that more than a few have commented here on spironolactone. Increased abdominal cramps as if I was back in middle school, fatigue, night panic (really bad, never experienced this..only on spiro), dark thoughts, and insane dizziness! It was just too intense. What a mess; never again.
Yes my mustache was gone and no pimples but not worth it ;lol I will leave my hormones (and frida kahlo weekdays) alone.:)
I too suffered from severe acne my whole life. I was on accutane in high school and have tried it all! I figured out I react to yeast and since I cut it from my diet my acne has completely cleared up. And it only took a week!!! I highly suggest allergy testing but super smart to get to the root causeI really believe that’s the only way to do it!
Great review:)
My wife has put on about 50pds being on prozac, Abilify and another one I forgot the name of. She wants to try KETO but her doctor said he is concerned about her slowly lowering her doses. I’m a bit ticked off that he did not let her at least lower some.
Should she try KETO anyway while on the meds, and then go demand that the doc start bring her off meds slowly?
Hey Dr Dray. I started taking Spiro about 4 days ago. 100 mg a day, (50mg nightly, 50 mg daily). I wanted to ask would it be bad if I were to not take them exactly 12 hours apart? Ideally, for me, I’d like to take one at like 10am and then 8pm at night. Would that be okay?
Also, Dr. Berry, What about Larin FE? And is there an oral contraceptive that’s less likely to cause weight gain? Thanks!
What happens if I become pregnant while under the influence of sprino? Will this affect my baby
Thanks for the video! I’ve been diagnosed since i was 17. I had lost about 40# after a baby and it helped so much. But i cant seem to loose it again. Acne sucks. And the thing thats the worst for me is the thinness of my hair right now just keeps getting worse. They want me to weigh 93# at 4 foot 11 inches. There’s no way…
Thank you for sharing. I’ve been on seroquel for 6 months now and have ballooned from 175 to 275 lbs! None of my clothes fit and now I have high blood pressure and am prediabetic. The worst part has been where I’ve gained most of the weight (my belly), I’ve gone from a size 32 to a size 44 because of the weight gain. I’m only 19 so I never expected I’d gain any weight, let alone 100 lbs.
I had very bad headaches for a whole week, I have regular periods but the worse for me is constantly feeling like I’m going to vomit, weak, dizzy, blurry vision I was prescribed it from my doctor, really wanna stop taking it because I heard it can make you have a baby with spinal bifida
PCOS is a disorder, not a disease. Also, Metformin does not take away PCOS. It helps with maintaining our weight, which is difficult when you have PCOS. Weight gain increases our risk for pre-diabetes/Diabetes, which is something Metformin also helps control, WITH a healthy diet and exercise.
I’m on Spiro now. I was wondering if Spiro can change your period in any way. I’m having some unusual things happen concerning my period & I think Spiro has something to do with that.
I’ve had similar symptoms one being irregular periods and I’ve talked to my doctor. She told me to get an ultrasound. My appointment is tomorrow and I’m scared but I really want to find out what’s going on with my body.
Hi everyone, I just found out I have pcos and really would love some supportive girlies to talk to.
To anyone that wants to read. I just feel so stuck. 37 years old. Have never had acne all of my life. Last summer, I began suffering with GI issues (severe bloat, etc) and ACNE. Since then I’ve been using topical clindamycyn, retin-a and have been on 100mg daily of doxycycline for 5 months. All of this with little to no improvements. My derm just seems “annoyed” by me when I come in and appears to be annoyed that I do so much acne research on my own. I asked yesterday about spironolactone and she just said “yeah we can do that”. I want to get off of doxycycline because being on an antiobiotic for so long worries me but she didn’t mention that being on an oral birth control would help the spironolactone to work better. I cannot do this because it could flare up old melasma. My acne is not even that bad compared to some poor soles, but to me, someone who has never had it before…it is devastating. Embarrassing and really effects my life and confidence. I don’t know what the best treatment is for me and it doesn’t seem like my derm does either or that they really care all that much. I have an apt for a second opinion at another place but they can’t get me in till DECEMBER! Does spironolactone have a chance to be effective on me if I do not take birth control? Is there a link to gut health and skin health? All of this started the same time. I posed that question to the derm and they said yes and just blew me off. Why do doctors not want to help me? In the meantime, my skin is scarring and residual red spots are being left behind and are marking up the entire lower half of my face. It’s just all so frustrating. Spironolactone may be the only other option for me but…I am scared to make the switch from doxycycline.
I just started Spiro today and this video gave me so much comfort, because I am very similar to you in my thoughts regarding drugs, etc. I truly hope I have a wonderful experience like you! I do fear taking it forever as I know the acne comes back when you stop, but for now I see it as a way to get a handle on this problem I’ve dealt with for so long. You’re gorgeous and your kindness shines through! Thanks so much <3
I starved myself for a week…..no weightloss….workout and eat healthy for 2 weeks….no change. It’s tough
I have a team of docs that are great. I have multiple autoimmune diseases including lupus. Then separate Lyme induced fibromyalgia, degenerate joint disease and other fun things I am on 6 out of 7 they are helping me lower my meds to help me lose weight. I lost a lot of weight before I was diagnosed then gained a lot with all the meds. It’s tough. It like climbing steps and almost getting all the way up and someone pushing you down each time. I feel so much better on keto. It’s amazing but in a flare I’m down for the count and have to take care of my 2 kids 4 n 5 yo ( on the autism spectrum) but they r amazing kids and work overnights as a pharmacists so no time to rest and no time to cook. That’s the hardest part. My husband is finally going it with me. We are going a meal plan for the week so we know what we are making. I have to keep trying. Down 15 lbs fighting the meds is hard bc I have to slowly taper or in too much pain. Thank you dr berry for all your help
I was on 25mg and I hoed my dosage to 50mg and when I uped it, it made me break out is that normal?
Hello Dr Dray thank you for your video. Do you have any information about the effectiveness and safety of topical spironolactone for hair?
Is it ok to take 100 mg spiro with a Tetracycline antibiotic? Is it really safe to take spiro for the rest of my life(unless pregnant)? Ps i dont have any hormonal imbalance in blood counts. Considering to take it only for acne
I did a video on Spironolactone for heart failure treatment.
Because of the diuretic properties of Spironolactone, will discontinuance result in rebound water retention? I went a few days without taking it and noticed that I felt like a marshmallow, as if I was holding onto much more water. Thank you! I’ve learned so much from your channel.
I just started spiro five days ago. My normal BP before spiro is about 96 over 60. Heartrate normally 80. Now on Spiro My BP is 110 over 75 and heartrate is 95. I feel anxious and shakey and almost threw up today. I’m on 25mg. Im contemplating stopping but don’t know if I should. I started feeling worse when I added my BCP two days ago. Is this normal? Lot of anxiety today.
Am skinny i wanna get fat and am in Africa, kenya which medicine will i use?
After so many years spent looking to help my hormonal acne, my Derm. Prescribed Spiro ❤️ my goodness it’s a dream come true. Been on it for a year. I’m on 75 mg twice a day. Side effect is continuous bleeding. Last month I bled for 4 weeks in a row and my Derm. Explained there’s nothing we can do so I decreased the dosage to 50 mg twice a day and it resolved however the acne came back. Needless to say, I’m back at my perfect dosage and bleeding/cramping again
Hi Dr. Dray Can I take roaccutane while waiting for Spiro to kickin(to take effect) sine roaccutane is an antibiotic, I dont just want more pimples to come out since ro accutane is faster
Please let us know, how is your natural healing will go. 100mg is not effective for me((
I just wonder how your colleagues respond to you sharing this great information to us that many of them lie about daily knowingly.
What I hate with spironolactone is that when you stop everything comes back…
So true food is medicine. Im Mexican and when i decide to go vegan for my pcos and over all health i was like this is gonna be so hard. It started a little tricky at the beginning but started making my favorite foods plant based and healthy. Ive been plant based for 8 years now and it has really changed my pcos and life. Eating lots of greens has helped i know that sounds boring but i became creative with my meals. Pcos is a bitch it can make you prone to cancer and diabetes all you can do is choose your health.
Can someone please help me.
Does any one have any of these symptoms?
I have brown patches between my breasts i scrub it and it does not come off!
In 2018 I was around 180 and in the middle of 2019 I came up to 250 pounds!!
I have like 2 hairs on my chin
I have not had my period since May of 2019 and right now it’s July of 2020 still no period!!!
Please let me know if any of you have the exact symtoms of mines
Do you think I have PCOS??
I’m so scared I won’t he able to have babies in the future!! I’m 22!
fuck, I love dairy T-T I used to have a cup of milk every day… no wonder I look like Chewbacca
Taking 20 mg Lipitor a day for heart. I understand it reduces cholesterol but I believe that could effect my testosterone which in turn could cause trouble losing wt. I am starting a mediterranean keto diet to really reduce saturated fat but will have plenty of essential fats from fish, olives, etc. Your thoughts please. Thanks Dr Berry. i subscribed about a week ago and am enjoying the content
Dr. Berry Thank you
How do you feel about hydroxychloroquine?
so, I must stay on my antidepressant, will keto work for me?
My blood pressure meds and prednisone for back pain made me gain weight, 15 pounds in three weeks. I didn’t need either one of these. My blood pressure wasn’t normally high when I am not sick and the IBProphen and Tylenol worked better than the Prednisone. I have been taking IBProphen regularly for a pinched nerve in the neck. Will that cause me to gain weight? I have used Gabapentin for neck pain but it caused several side effects. I see now that several I have been taking have caused this weight gain. Now how do I get it off? I have gone off all of them because I don’t think I need them and I am doing fine except I need to get the weight off.
I am glad the decisions your healthteam have made are helping you! You sound happy about the changes and I am happy for you. I look forward to more updates and education on PCOS.
Rogaine will stop a keto diet dead in it’s tracks. Stall you out and cause you to gain weight.
I was diagnosed with PCOS around 2014, I have tried Metformin twice now but the diarrhoea is INSANE. I literally cannot stop the constant tummy pain, nausea and diarrhoea when I’m on it. It helps though in so many ways and I desperately wanna take it ugh.
When I cut out all oil, dairy, gluten, processed sugar, soy, intermediate fasting, increase water intake, Vitimins and no changes after 5 months I knew I needed spirolactone. I just got it last week but I’m so afraid to bite to billet and just take it…
Does.anyone know if I could stop taking my birth control with spiro? I’m scared i will break out again if I quit my birth control while on this medication.
I have pcos and I’m taking metformin but I cant tell a difference at all.
Girl, I keep going back to your videos. I have been struggling to eat a typical “healthy ” diet, including all food categories. It just doesn’t work…I feel like I’m not going anywhere. I’m eating so much healthier than before, and I’m still at a plateau. I’m still having cravings, especially at night when my baby wakes up…it’s just horrible.
I’m not getting enough sleep, I admit, and this might be the main saboteur along with the stress of caring for a baby. I am considering going whole food vegan, because at this point it’s the only way I can begin seeing any changes in my appetite and weight. And seeing that I can fit into old clothes would seriously improve my self esteem.
I have tried vegan before and I lost 7 kg in a month and a half. I felt amazing, my cravings were gone, I wasn’t even visually attracted to other foods anymore. I went on vacation and had to eat whatever was available, and eventually thought I could eat normally again. Gained the weight back, and now I’m back from scratch trying to get healthy.
It’s just…I’m not a very predictable schedule person. I don’t have time to be counting calories. I barely have time to look at my macros. I wasn’t raised to count macros. Not even to eat intuitively. So it’s a HUGE struggle to have to overthink these things on a daily basis.
I guess I’m just looking to learn a handful of recipes and stick to those boring recipes until I have time to learn new ones. Being a mom is really stressful and time consuming, and I’m soo prone to depression and hormonal imbalances right now. I feel like a hot mess.
You give me hope. I love you.
Me having a melt down cause Im fat and unlovable so I look up pocs weightloss, watched this video
Me: okay… okay I can do this bye chicken nuggets, bye chip I just cant give up choccy milk I love it too much
Video: limit dairy
Me: starts crying again
I’m so glad you mentioned that Metformin starts your period. I’m on a time-release Metformin of 500mg and I started my full period (more than spotting) The very next day of my first dose. With PCOS I get my period for 2 weeks, don’t ask me why but I do as opposed to the 7 days I used to get it. I have a doctor’s appt coming soon and will ask her if this is normal.
Eat more often??? That sounds like very bad advise, the more you eat, the more your blood sugar spikes. That can’t be good for people who are prone to blood sugar problems.
I take 50 mg of Spiro for the past 2 months and it helps keep away the acne flares. I do get the occasional acne but it’s not as bad as before which I don’t mind. My last period was late and it took a week and 2 days! No cramping, though. But I thought it would not stop. My major issue is it is also known to keep your potassium levels high and this freaks me out as most foods have potassium. But I’m so conflicted wether to stop as my face looks so much clearer. I had awful red bumps all over my jawline and in clusters. I see my derm this week and we’ll see.
Are you still on spironolactone? Also were you on any birth control contraceptives?
I have been on spironolactone for about a year now, I first started on 100mg to now 200mg (2 pills) daily. I took spironolactone for hair loss which has greatly improved my hair and my hair is fully back, I’ve never experienced any acne or anything else so I take this purely for hair. Recently end of last year I increased my dose and not long after I have noticed a few flat red dots on my thighs, getting concerned I went to a gp who said it was ezcema but it didn’t itch or wasn’t bumpy. Since moisturising more and using creams the rash has faded but then a tiny spot reappears, no flaky or anything just appears. Only recently I have a feeling my increased Spiro may have caused this rash since I take a high dose, I might talk to my dermo about adjusting my dose, I could be wrong and I am not a professional but I have a feeling that’s the cause of the rash. If anyone else has a similar experience please let me know. The major side effects I get are thirst, period irregular, less bloating and my boobs are bigger. That’s my experience
Hi Dr. Thank you so much for this video. Here is my dilemma and I’d be forever grateful if you responded. I was put on mirtazepine for insomnia. Severe insomnia. I do have a strong history of depression but cipralex has made me stable. 4 months ago I warned off the mirtazipine. It was an absolutely awful experience. Since then I have been tried on zopiclone, trazadone and anitriptiline. None of them helped or worked as well as the mirtazipine for me for sleep. My dr has recommended me to go back on mirtazipine 7.5mg a night and to not go above that dose. My question is this….if I can control the food cravings and make smart choices will I still gain weight? Does the medication slow my metabolism or is the weight gain come from the increased appetite/eating? I don’t know what to do. Thanks so much -Abbey
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It sounds like I’ve had the same kind of breakouts as you (before my period…jawline, behind ears, some on neck). I’m so happy it worked for you so quickly! I’m starting it on Monday and I’m very nervous. You’re very lucky your derm prescribed this for you right away! I’ve been to SEVERAL derms. Probably about 4 or 5 before I finally got the Rx!
Anyway, I am SO happy for you! I hope to be in your shoes in 3 months.
Heyyy, i’ve started taking this pill today but my doctor told me to take it during 3weeks then a week to let my periods come and like this for 6 months. Is it the same for you or you just took the pill without interruption? (Sorry if my english isn’t really good, i’m french) ☺
Hi. There. My doctor gave me. Levothyroxine 80 mcg. Just wondering if that will make me gain weight. Thank you.
In Europe we actually use something more effective with less sideeffects. It’s called dienogest. It comes as a birth control pill with ethylestradiol. It has worked wonders for my acne. In Germany a years supply costs about 60 euros. I moved to the US and here it costs 2400 for a years supply. Unfortunately my insurance doesn’t cover it, so I’m switching to spironolactone, because it is covered. I’m very bummed about this, because dienogest has helped me so much better. You can notice the effect after a week. If you have good health insurance ask your doctor for natazia or qlaira birth control. They contain dienogest.
Hi Doc………i have just one thing to say…..”Holy Snappin Arseholes!”….i take meteprolol, amitriptoline and pregabalin!!!!….seeing a doctor Monday!…..thanks so much for the info!…
I was diagnosed with pcos in August of 2019. My dr prescribed me this medication(metformin) because my blood levels were a bit high. Ive been trying to conceive for over a year. Im so afraid of medications and ive taken letrozole and provera. . I wish pcos on NOBODY! But im keeping faith because my fiance and i want a child. Please leave any tips for me. I have to take one pill per day at night then i move to 2 pills a day. Please comment any foods that you think i should be eating! Thank you all! I pray successful journeys for us all
Being on birth control is not bad or terrible, it is a way to manage symptoms. I was on the pill for 20 years to control my PCOS. I would feel guilty about needing “toxic” meds, go off then have my uterine lining build up because my body just does not cycle correctly. Birth control helps the lining stay thin, which in turn helps with cancer prevention. Now I am on Mirena IUD and love it. My point is that sometimes medicine is a need, it is not terrible, there is absolutely no shame in taking it to address your health. ❤
I love this video!!! I have PCOS too but hated Metformin for myself.. the side effects are definitely forreal
Ok so I was recently diagnosed by my second doctor with pcos. Because the first one told me I didn’t have it now my experience with everything is a bit different…. I haven’t experienced anything that everyone is talking about as far as body hair acne so on and so forth but I did recently gain weight and o did notice a change in my period it just went away for a year and I’ve always been regular my problem is I struggle with accepting that it’s truly pcos like I feel like idk if it really is almost want to get s third opinion my doctor told me it was odd to see it in s women who’s more lean rather than super over weight but I am 180 I’m normally 160 she did tell me also I should have no problem being regular again since I always have been and that I should be 100 percent fine we just need to work on my period being regular again but has anyone ever been diagnosed but always been regular and didn’t ever experience the face hair and acne Ect Ect? One last thing she told me was that my testosterone was suppose to be at 6 it was at an 8 so not super high but still should be brought down so I’m so confused
Hey how is the medication working for you now? My doctor recommended it for me I have PCOS and I’m pre-diabetic and I haven’t had my period in a year. I’ve seen how they’re going to recall the medication because supposedly it causes cancer. And now I’m scared to take it
I’m so tired of working out just to keep gaining weight, I’m so tired of seeing people eat regular food with out gaining anything, I’m so tired of having doctors tell me to loose weight, I’m just so tired. I feel like I’m trying so hard and not getting anything in return. I just feel like giving up all the time or I feel so helpless. I’m glad I found this video because I’m finding so many other people that feel the same
I’ve lost 34 lbs on the PCOS diet. No dairy, gluten, added sugar, or caffeine. I replaced coffee with chai tea, milk with almond milk, and eat so much protein that bread doesn’t even enter my mind. I also do 10-15 min exercise a day. Distressing and removing stress triggers was the turning point for me. Loved the video, thx for sharing. ❤
Priyanka chopra: google her. Damn you look so much like her. Wow
As an anti-androgen, does Spiro impact muscle building for women?
Omg you’re so beautiful girly! you had me cracking up when it kicked your sugar cravings and you said “this is what it feels like to be normal??” Lmaooo I feel the same way! Thanks for sharing your video ❤️
Thank you

It’s it ok for there to be a dred shed at the beginning and will it stop after a while? Thank you
I take metformin and YES you can not eat Fatty foods! that’s why it’s a little difficult to be on keto because of the added fat. I always eat small portions so I wont have the blow up. My a1c did go down for my diabetes. also I barely can eat chocolate because I get heartburn because metformin dont like it! My b12 was 98 I had to get a shot and take 1000mcg b12…. Glad your doing better
I’m wondering about the antidepressant Lexapro or Escitalopram?
What about cards? I keep hearing that carbohydrates should be limited.
My Dermatologist wanted me to start this medication because my hair is shedding a lot due to stress but I’m seeing that the side effects include hair shedding lol ironically. I also read what you mentioned about it lowering your blood pressure and I have no issues with blood pressure I don’t want it actually causing problems in that aspect and I happen to be quite sensitive to antibiotics or prescribed drugs so I think I’m just not even gonna try. I rather try pantothenic acid for acne and biotin along with a multivitamin for my hair cuz yeah no.
I was on Ocella for 7 years for acne and decided to stop as it was affecting my overall health, plus I was starting to have some breakouts after being clear for all this time. I transitioned to Spiro (50mg/day) the same week. It’s only been one week, but my skin is going crazy, with cystic acne breakouts on chin and jawline. I understand my body is withdrawing from the Ocella birth control but it’s very frustrating. After all, isn’t the main Ocella ingredient, drospirenone, and derivative of spironalactone? Why would I be purging? I would think my transition would be easier. I can’t seem to find any stories from other women who transitioned from Ocella (Yasmin generic) to Spiro. Any advice would be appreciated.
Honestly I looking for something to gain weight cause I’m underweight. I tried every natural alternative and still no change.

I had absolutely no clue that I had PCOS until recently. A couple years ago I gained a lot of weight and couldn’t put any of it off. I got off the birth control pill and popped in an IUD thinking that would help but I only noticed more problems. My doctor told me I had some cyst action going on on my ovaries and that it should go away thinking it was from IUD. Never really felt any relief. I saw something about the mistreatment of animals around that time and became conscious of my diet and started making more plant based choices and suddenly started to lose weight and have less health issues. I guess I got on my own little diet targeting PCOS without even realizing it. Plant based is definitely the way to go for decreasing the symptoms and to help you feel better.
Thank you for sharing! I’m also on metformin going on almost 3 weeks. Your so right my cravings for sweets have subsided, I don’t crave carbs as much, and my appetite has gone down as well. Side effects no joke it does send you to the bathroom but if you eat clean your good. My b12 was way low too and I was given b complex pills and it gives me the energy I need. I was also given myo inositol pills that helps with pcos. I also bought maca and a blend of herbal supplements that help with pcos such as vitex, licorice root, dong Quai, white peony and saw palmetto. It helps decrease the symptoms of pcos such as the growth of those annoying facial hairs.I’m gonna try the paleo diet to see how it goes as well.
I have it to and I gained at least over 50 lbs I’m depressed! People judge me more and I notice it’s a shift in the way that people treat me. When I was smaller I was treated better, when I gained weight people where mean.
Have you experienced a period that’s like not on a normal cycle? Like maybe skip sometimes? I’ve started taking it & my period sometimes starts a little late or just gets spotty. You’re also stunning! xx
I was diagnosed 11 years ago, i was on birth control for a few months but the birth control always gave me horrible side affects so stoped taking them it took me and my husband 4 years to conceive my son after MANY miscarriages and alot of medication. i have been 200 lbs for years, i’ve tried EVERY diet, several workout programs and diet pills my doctor prescribed me. I have been eating a strict all plant diet and only water for 4 months now along with strong diet medication and im to the point were im selling all my stuff so i can get liposuction done. but i have such a horrible case of pcos and it affects my everyday life.
Did they send you to a nutritionist to personalize a ketosis diet for hormonal stabilization (reduce insulin levels) naturally before they pushed meds?
I’m scared to start this will it mess with my period? Also I’m mildly anemic should I be worried?
Iknow. I need to loose weight. Dont know wich one to take she prescribe, Cymbalta and celebrex but both of them it says I can get diabetes and gsin weght. And want to take one without those side effects. Monday want to go talk to her and change it. Also I became pre-diabetic.
Spironolactone. Caused estrogen dominance and weight gain in me within 3 weeks.
Finally, someone who gives the real and raw details. I noticed the same terrible side effects after eating fried food. I was on metformin for years but I had surgery for endo two years ago. Thank u so much for sharing your experience and wishing you all the best
I took 100 mg / day for about 6 months, helped with my skin so much, but my libido dropped to 0…
Nice video my friend thanks for sharing your experience with the acne and glad you clear it out. It’s always good to take breaks on our skin once in a while.
i’m a really broke student in the UK and i cant really join any support groups or get taken seriously with a nurse because i’m a transman, does anyone have any good tips for affordable substitutes in food? i’m in uni a lot so i struggle to find time to cook a lot );
Thx for coming back and updating us on your journey. Fast foods are greasy that is why you have to use the bathroom so often. Also if you eat foods that have too much sugar will have you running to the bathroom as well on Metformin. My patients have told me that. Thx for sharing.
