Marathon 101 What shoes to run a marathon in!
Video taken from the channel: Colin McCourt
On marathon day, wear shoes that have about 40 to 50 miles on them, so they still have most of their cushioning left. So, you can buy a new pair of running shoes about three weeks before your race and do several short runs and one longer run in them.I believe that most marathoners should race the marathon in a lightweight training shoe, and only those who are relatively fast and relatively lightweight with good biomechanics should wear a.
Don’t get a new pair of running shoes the day before your marathon plan ahead to give you time to break them in. Ideally, your shoes are ready for a marathon after you’ve walked about 40 miles. You should look to change out a pair of running shoes every 300 – 500 miles. At the same time, running shoes need to be broken in. A brand-new pair of running shoes need a few miles on them before they are race-ready.
When it comes to marathon preparation, here’s how I like to do i.Skechers continues to stay relevant by introducing a fast, carbon-plated running shoe for marathon competitors.OP, I think you’re fine if you decide to run in the same shoes during your marathon, but definitely don’t try to wear a new pair (especially if it’s a different shoe style/brand) than the one you have currently been wearing.Comfort will also take on all new importance, as you’ll be spending a lot of time in your new shoes, whether that time involves training for a marathon or just upping your mileage for the joy.
A good way to tell you need new shoes is if you notice your shoes are a bit thinner, they don’t bounce back enough, or you are more sore than usual after runs. To make your shoes last longer, rotate two pairs of running shoes and make sure they are completely dry in between uses. The bouncy midsole foam in a pair of new shoes will absorb impact associated with running, saving your feet and joints from taking a pounding.
As your shoes age, though, the foam loses some of its ability to rebound, like if you put a brick on top of a marshmallow. Nagging aches and pains.“If you’re running in stability trainers like the New Balance 860 for all of your long runs, then it makes sense to wear a stability-oriented racing flat.Just like the car you buy depends on what you will be using it for, the shoe you wear should be catering to the activity you are using it for.
If you are the kind of person that lives in your running shoespicks up the kids from school, goes grocery shopping, gardening, etc.you DEFINITELY need more than one pair.If you are swapping to race specific shoes for your marathon then make sure that you run some miles in them beforehand, rather than wearing them fresh out of the box. This ensures that they’re suitably worn in and will help to reduce the risk of getting blisters. In general, a pair of running shoes should last between 400 to 500 miles of running (3 or 4 months for regular runners).
Take a look at your shoes and check if the midsoles and outsoles are compressed or worn. If they are, it may be time for a new pair. Learn more about when to replace your running shoes.Marathon Walking. Walking marathons—or even three-day ultra-marathons—is another form of athletic challenge that is growing in popularity.
How you walk one of these events will dictate what you should wear. Most marathon walkers use everyday fitness walking technique, so walking shoes or lightweight running shoes are appropriate.Marathon shoes should give you plenty of support and running clothes like a marathon shirt and shorts (or pants) should be light and breathable. Dress appropriately in layers if the weather calls for it.

I am planning of a Hoka Clifton 4, are they any good mate?or can you suggest any cheap good ones please?
Spends 30 mins on hair then in vid says my hair looks bad. Just like a woman.
Long Runs Hoka Clifton’s

Looking to add another pair into the mix. Really considering the NB Beacons, but none of my local running stores have them to try on and I haven’t had a NB in years.
Hi Seth,
Just to let you know that if you’re running in the flynit they can get a little heavier in damp conditions, where as I find the Vapourweave lets the moisture out.
Just food for thought, best of luck
New balance minimus mt10 is the only shoe that i can run injury free in, why would that be?
Distance: Altra Torin Knit 3.5
Track/Tempo: Merrell Trail Glove 4
Race: Altra Escalante Racer
I just switched to Altra racer after loving the Torin and feeling the Merrell getting slightly narrow/restrictive. I’d been running lesser 15 ish mile weeks soley in Merrells for years.
I don’t really get it the human body has limits, that’s what technology for. Records are meant to be broken.
LR Pegasus Turbo
Tempo Zoom Flyknit
Race Carbon Rocket 5k
4% and as of today Next % 10k and over
Shoes are shoes get over it if it is an unfair advantage then buy them yourself
In my opinion, they should only be banned if they’re prohibitively expensive and give rich people an unfair advantage. The problem with doping is that it has adverse side effects, creating a prisoner’s dilemma.
On that matter, I would also say something about genetically modified people. You know how the paraolympics was created to give disabled people a chance to compete? Perhaps the inverse can be created for genetically superior people so that they don’t destroy the competition for the normal olympics.
I feel like innovation shouldn’t be stopped because of the fear of it crushing competition but do it the swim wear way with regulation
Hi i wear mizuno and hoka Clifton 4s but cant decide what new shoe to buy i got mizuno wave 19 my gait test what shoe would you suggest for full marathons and fast shoes cheers
Mo Farah wore the Nike Vaporfly Next% Flyknit (Nike By You) because he has Achilles problems. That’s why Nike cuts the back of his Pegasuses for him. So there is nothing to irritate the Achilles.
I have both the 4% and Next% and I think that the Next% is much better because it’s a little bit stiffer, more stable and easier to lace. There is the problem that the Vaporweave is overlapping itself but when I run I don’t really know. Even the heel collar suits me better because it provides better foot lockdown. Maybe that’s just me because I have pronation problems.
Anyway, good video and good luck in your marathon!
Other than the Vomero, what other shoes are good for “heavy” (over 200 lbs) runners?
Love it! Stay patient you are son doing great in the recovery process. Love you bro! I use brooks ghost for running. I wear NB at work. Looking forward to your marathon training vids once you’re back into training! Through God’s grace You can do it! Just believe!!!
Love the On all whites. I had a pair of On Cloudflow’s, they were instantly comfortable, but they only lasted 250(ish) miles before some of the pods fell apart.Shame, but £120 for 250 miles isn’t a great ratio on my budget.
I ran in the Pegasus turbo and my foot was getting sore real quick. Not sure why.
The Kenyans dominate for a # of reasons….1. Hungerthe need to sacrifice n succeed. I had that when I was a little kid. 2. Kenya’s highest point is over 5,000 feet above sea level. 3. The Kenyans run 10 miles a day to get to school n some must negotiate some wild beasts a day long the way. That said God bless these children and I guess we all sow the depth of what we reapthat said I’m still limping from my last marathon 10yrs ago. We have cars now. But being limber and healthy is inparallel.
Problem is from an evolutionary point, most of us are not meant to be running on artificial surfaces like asphalt and this leads to injuries. If I can wear shoes that lessen injuries and instead allow me to save more energy and be more free to run, then I think it is a must to have shoes like these.

If it’s that big of a deal then give them to every runner at the race
Loving the channel! The Next% upper is designed to allow some extra room in the toe box for foot swelling on long runs! I find that to be a huge benefit. I’ve never run a marathon, but anything over 10k, My feet definitely swell a bit.
I just picked up the ON Cloudflow to be my new marathon shoe. I previously used the zoom fly flyknit though.

I’m feeling those Sketchers.! I want some with speed on the side lol
My ears perked when u said adios 5 is on the way!! I’m still a fan of the adios 3 (still have an unworn pair)

St. George marathon in 2 days. I’ll be wearing the Carbon X. It was a close call between those and the Zoom Fly FKs but I think over the course of 26 I will appreciate the greater stability of the Carbon X in the later miles.

QD:
Easy days: I’m always wearing those allrounders for easy days that aren’t new anymore. When a shoe pair has for example 300+ miles I notice that it’s not as fast as it was in the beginning. Then I start to wear it for easy and recovery runs. At the moment I have Skechers GOrun Ride 7, Nike Pegasus 35 and Nike Zoom Elite 9 for that
Lactate or tempo: on treadmill, any shoe that is fast, on the track the shoe needs to hug the feet also really well because of the curves. Hoka Mach 2 is the newest one for this category that I have. Need to get other pairs soon.
Middle-distance and long runs: The new Hoka Clifton 6 just arrived. Need to get new pairs for faster long runs
Uphill running: we don’t have mountains here but I run hills on asphalt. My favorite is the Adidas Boston Boost. It has an amazing ground feel and very good traction
Strides: I run strides on track (10x100m) 2-4 times a month in the middle of a 10K run. I could wear any faster shoe for that purpose but my favorite pair is a 6 years old adidas Adios 2. It doesn’t have a lot of cushioning because it’s from pre-Boost era and has more than 300mls already but somehow I like it a lot. Especially when it’s a little bit softer track. For hard surface the situation would be different but I like to run strides on bouncier track.

Doesnt switching shows all the time sorta mess up your feet?
Oh man time fly’s, 3 more weeks, hope that you ask for videos from Amsterdam, like pikes peak. so you can share it with us. We are rooting for you.
I will be running in the Hoka One One Clifton 6’s at the Route 66 Marathon in November!!!!!
Why didn’t we get to see any results from the treadmill test at the end? No measurements? Just an anecdotal response from the runner. This is weird reporting, you set up a test, then don’t actually tell us anything about the results.
Good you mention that heel/achilles blister. Because I too got the same blister. It seems the materials keeps stabbing up into my achilles.
I have a 10k today in the NB rebels which are amazing for running quickly, though I am nit yet fast enough on the marathon to really profit from them. So, for my first marathon, it will be the Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit
If you wasn’t so fortunate to own so many the decision would be easier
Well that’s the longest ad I’ve ever watched! New Balance Fresh foam Vongo v3s size UK 10.5. come on!!!
It’s funny I love the vapor fly 4% Flyknit but I cannot get the heel to lock down in that thing at all the only way I can do it is to tighten the shoes so tight that it causes me pain. I’ve run three marathons in them and I think they’re a great shoe but it sucks for that lock down at least for the shape of my foot. The next percent I can get them to lock down perfectly first try and I’ve got the lacing adjusted pretty well and it just works for me, so it’s weird how different people get different feelings out of the same shoe.
Shouldn’t be banned imo, years from now similar technology will be common place for running shoes
Wouldn’t it make more sense, for easy/recovery runs, to use the shoe type that places less strain on your body higher drop, not too flexible, well cushioned, and fairly supportive upper? Like a Cumulus, Vomero, Solar Glide, or Wave Rider? The point is not having your feet and legs work too much so they can recover and be ready for quality days. A very flexible shoe, or a lower-drop one, takes away from recovery.
Then a lighter, faster shoe for tempos, fartlecks, etc., which for most people will be the shoe they race long distance in.
Just have a look at the pros. Big bulky trainer for anything but tempos, intervals and race-pace workouts. Jordan Hasay does strides in Vomeros!
Keep up the good work, Seth! And good luck with your injury.
Long Easy Runs: Hoka Clifton 1These things are without a doubt my favorite shoe. They’re light, pillowy, and keep the legs feeling fresh for the rest of the week.
Short Easy/ Tempo: Saucony Freedom ISOThese are my workhorse shoes that can do it all. Fast enough, soft enough, bouncy enough and DURABLE. The midsole lasts forever so I comfortably put 400+ miles in them and they still feel great!
Hard Tempo/ Intervals: New Balance Zante v4They are stiff at first, but once you get going fast in them, I don’t think any other shoe I’ve tried can compare. At faster effort, they feel bouncy and snappy, and they make a perfect workout shoe.
This video helps me, I have the 4%’s and plan on racing them at CIM. My only concern is if the roads are wet, would they hold up? I don’t have the Next %’s but it seems that outsole would hold up in wet conditions. Hopefully I don’t have to worry about that..
I don’t have a marathon coming up but I ran a marathon last summer with zoomfly Flyknit
Banning a shoe.. that’s just dumb. Athletic equipment has always improved over time
I’m having issues feeling like the Next% is holding sweat in much more than the 4%. I feel like I’m in a puddle during and after a long hard run.
everybody in the marathon should use those shoes so that “world athletics” will determine what makes the person win the competition. Yeah, shoes can be one of the reasons why a person can win it but not everybody has the stamina. Doping thru taking it internally is the one to be considered cheating because the medicine is enhancing the person’s stamina way above its normal range. Just my perspective.
Mo Farah ran the great north run in Next% with Flyknit. I think he did so because he has achilles issues. He trains in Pegasus shoes which have a lowered heel cap.
I expect Kipchoge to run the INEOS challenge in Next% with Elite Flyprint 3D upper. Kipchoge was seen wearing this upper a couple of times. It’s supposed to be even lighter. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Can anyone confirm what he is saying about the New Balance having a plate in it? I have them and I still don’t think they have one.
I just spent some big bucks on the next%. I feel obliged to wear them in the Melbourne marathon in a few weeks. I’ve been using the zoom fly 3 to train in and really hoping that the next% feels better over the long run.

Running the Chicago Marathon (Oct 13) with the New Balance Zante Pursuit. Nothing flashy but they should do the trick.
Great Video. I love that New Balance running shirt you have on, too bad it matches the Next%. Great choice on the 4%, I have the same issue too Next% vs 4%. Both great Vaporfly shoes. All the best for the Marathon.
I’m running Chicago in 2 weeks. I got my Next Percents last week and can definitely attest the “boat like” feeling Seth describes (as well as the issue with the heel). But I’m running 20-25 secs faster per mile in them at what was my race pace effort. Wish I would have seen this video first — probably would have gone for the 4%s.
I personally much prefer the next%, I feel much more locked in and more stable, I also don’t sink into the foam in the next% whereas I do in the 4%
Seth, but as I know you can order Next% with any upper through Nike iD(Mesh,Flyknit,Vaporweave)…In such case, will you still take 4% over Next%?
More like with a world-wide pandemic just around the corner…
Woohoo! 4% for the win!
QD: Next (half) marathon race is the Las Vegas Rock & Roll on November 17th and gonna wear my 4% as well
But if it is considered cheating? Would it all even out if they all wore the same shoe?
I’m running the Detroit marathon in the Next%. Unfortunately I’ve never worn the 4% Flyknit as I was unable to find a men’s US size 14.

I wore Hoka Rincon’s on my second marathon earlier this month. Great support and cushioning for a mixed trail and road race. Got some Nike’s Pegasus Zoom Turbo’s but when wearing the Rincon’s my quads and calves just seem to feel not as beat up on the longer distances. Rincon’s weighed in at 240g for UK 10.5 / US 11 which is my lightest cushioned shoe. Good luck at Amsterdam Seth:-)
Its true shoes matter, but this story is more of a advertisement for nikw instead of educational or news.. The exageration of it all.. If ur fast ur fast. Have shoes or barefoot fastest will win
Can you do a video including the vaporfly 4% or the zoom fly
How about they don’t wear shoes! If they win again, they will tell them its “Still” illegal!
What do you recommend for a well rounded show for us that can’t afford a lot of shoes?
Damn dude calm down and stay off the crystal meth lol! But love the review and shoe choices. What do you think about the hoka clifton 5 for a marathon?
As sports progress people expect better achievements. However, as humans, we can only go to a certain limit. Athletes of the past are the same as now. the reason for better records is technology, diet and specialized body types. now that we have achieved that were else can we go? nowhere, so we use technology to advance sports. We keep wanting better records when the human body has a limit. It has to stop somewhere. Nike wants to sell shoes, as long as records are broken more shoes are sold. But how far are we willing to go?
The problem is it’s not an unfair advantage. Literally every competitor can use it, so it’s not unfair. By that logic, a runner that has a good diet could also be considered an unfair advantage
Next race is October 5th. 50k trail race. I’ll be rocking the Altra Lone Peak 4s
QD: Ran my first marathon Sept. 15th. I ran in the Nike Pegasus 35. My next race is a local half and I chose the Saucony Liberty Iso 2.
There’s a difference between doping (which causes health issues and potentially death) and legal advantages such as better equipment, natural genetic variants, scientific advances in training and improvements in nutrition. Sure, we should find ways to improve the performance of the human body. That’s the point of competition. But we shouldn’t injure, sterilize or kill people in the name of entertainment, nor should athletes be faced with a choice between dodgy injections and failing qualifications. If those fancy shoes are safe for the feet, why not?
I’m just sitting here at home and really wanting the NB fresh foam. I really want that 1080 shoe, so i can feel good and run fast to. I hoped i would say this live, but now i can only write that i want a size 12.5:)
Peak 2 Creek, Nike 4%… unless it is raining. I hear the next % work better than the 4% in the rain. I hate racing in the rain so I will be going back to my trainer just like I did in Boston 2018, the Clifton 4. Yes I still train in the Clifton 4, I didn’t like the 5, after this training/race cycle I will try the 6.
well, it’s a trail 50k on Saturday, not a road marathon…however, i wanted to wear the Hoka ATV, yet? with less than 40 hours on the shoe? it just combusted; the outsole tread had exposed flappers on heels and the mesh uppers/sidewalls ripped wide open on both shoes! so? by default, gotta go with my Hoka Speedgoats which have been very durable. very disappointed with the ATV. thanks for the vid!
Hi guys. Great show. New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 V8 Blue Men’s 10.5

I’m still on the fence wether or not I should give myself a second try 4 weeks after my peakrace. It was just too hot and I ran 3:24h for the second time this year (aim was 3:15). If I’ll go for it, it will be in the Hoka Carbon X.
Completely agree regarding the heel counter, the Next% rubs every time and means I have too over tighten to try and counter this which obviously doesn’t feel great for 26.2 miles!
All the more reason for everyone to get this shoe. Rather than surpressing inventions, we should really move forward. So silly.
All of the best marathon times were performed by Ethiopian or Kenyan runners, doesnt everyone else in the world is at an unfair advantage then?
I love your website, my bugbear is that i can never find shoes in my size on the site. I’m a UK 8 but through trial and error, realise i need to run in a women’s 8.5 (only brand I can run in at size 8 is Nike). Bought a pair of Adizero Adiós from PDR and LOVE them but I’m killing them!
I’d go for the New Balance Vongo v3 equivalent of a UK 8.5.

I wore the 4% Flyknit for my most recent marathons but I’ll be wearing the next% for a few upcoming halfs (and next full) close call though! Could definitely be worth traveling with the Next% as a backup if it’s bad weather in Amsterdam, as the upper doesn’t retain as much moisture + the outsole rubber is designed to cope better in wet conditions…

*Controversial shoes that make people run a sub 2-hour marathon.
Yeah just give it a year and everyone will have this kind shoes. Obviously they still can’t finish a marathon in under 3 hours.
People just don’t get the idea that equipment just gets better overtime. Imagine back then telling the first NBA player that wore knee pads on the court, “that’s illegal buddy”. It sounds dumb but it could’ve happened… A world where athletes don’t wear pads or a world where football players wear wooden helmets cause metal ones are too ‘protective’.
Great introductory video guys. I would love the New Balance Vongo V3 size 8.
I would like to see a feature on the pro’s and con’s on running clothing (tops, shorts, socks, jackets etc)…budget buys Vs branded products please….where can I save a few £’s…Cheers.
Chicago. No way I’m toying the start line in anything else than Vaporfly. But this one really threw me sideways. Love FK and have been thinking of buying Next%. Don’t like that upper either (in ZF3) so may just buy a new pair of 4%. Thank you sir. This may save my race.
Great show, found it really helpful, thank you. Saucony Kinvara would be great size 11UK

Seems to me that the shoe is relatively affordable, doesn’t endanger the user (ala steroids), and doesn’t endanger other competitors (ala aluminum bats). The only thing it does endanger is current records. Well…records were made to be broken. People are getting stronger and faster anyway and older records are going to get broken. (shrug) C’est la vie.

Seth, i live 15 minutes away from Amsterdam.. if the weather is close to anything like today (where it has been raining almost all day long), then i feel the sole pattern of the next% will be a better choice as it seems like it can move more water away (similar like car tires) and due to that will not be as slippery..
I understand that you made your choice based on other very valid points, but if i were you i would at least take them with you on your trip, and take the weather into consideration when you’re here.

I just use the adidas pure boost dpr for all my road runs and I’ve just bought the speed cross 4s for my trail runs
U guys know nice training plans for 10k? try to run under 40 min
Dang. Nothing against you, Seth. I love your channel a lot. But whatever happened to the days when we just threw on a pair of running shoes and got the job done? I’ll never forget the days of my parents only being able to afford one pair of shoes every XC and Track season (And I’m super grateful for that because it could’ve been worse). In college, we were fortunate to not have to pay, but we still only had a one pair of trainers and one pair of race spikes at a time. Its crazy to think how much has advanced in this sport and its incredibly mind blowing how easy it is as a consumer/fan of the sport to trick ourselves into thinking we need all this stuff. I am guilty of this myself and thinking about it now has me thinking to myself like…WTF man?! Sorry for the rant…but your video got me thinking haha.

Hi Seth-I was wondering if you could review the hoka Mach 2 once you’re healthy. Thinking about getting this
Ended up running my best half ever in the Saucony Ride ISO Sunday. I’ve been using the newer pair for races and long runs and the pair that about needs to be retired for easy days. I did my tempos in the Freedom ISO and some speed in the Kinvara 10. Kinvara 10 is my 10k or less race shoe at the moment. Guess I’ve inadvertently become a Saucony loyalist.
Rig your baseball bat with a metal rod and YOU’LL be just fine it’s not cheating
My all around shoe has been the Adidas Adios 3 for quite a while which I’ve used from 5k up to half marathon without issue, although my fastest 5k has been in an Adidas Sub2 (I’m a bit of a plodder so couldn’t wear them long distance). Have entered my first marathon this coming Autumn (think I’ll be looking at around 4h30) and am currently trying some Pegasus Turbos as my shoe for that.
Interesting overview… I am also a forefoot striker and its worth noting that for runners like us there is very very little point in getting into the whole stability vs neutral debate. Those types of shoes control the ankle, and are focussed on those who heel-strike. I also find that cushioning on the forefoot is less of an issue as forefoot runners tend to have a ‘springier’ running style and dont thump the ground. Personally, I have a pairs of Asics Cumulus and Brooks Ravenna that I mix between for roads, and Asics Fuji Attack that I use for trails.
Looking forward to the nutrition debate its a minefield! I try to carry proper food on long runs flapjack, cake bars, nakd bars. I am also a big fan of tailwind.
It’s all perfect marketing for Nike. Couldn’t have gone better for them

The Pegasus bothers my Achilles. So I picked up the beacons and they create hot spots on my heel but I’m not giving up on them. (The Clifton’s are my favorite shoe)
got a strange question for u.
If u carried a 20kg bag pack, how fast would your mile be??
This is not something new in sports, the same thing happened in Swimming. Due to the ankle-length sharkskin suits that were created, everyone started breaking world records. It helps reduce drag and increase buoyancy due to the material. Advances in equipment will happen but it cannot be so drastic that it significantly makes the sport easier.
I think this controversy is just due to the lack of regulation.
Edit: just saw the end of the video

im training for my first marathon using my 5 year old nike free that i got as,a birthday gift. any recommendations on a long distance running shoes? looking for a budget shoes that looks decent/nice…..something not too ugly lol
i know you’re eager to get back out there, but make sure you only come back when you’re ready. the time will be here before you know it. and we’ll be here waiting. well, no one has left. we’re all here with you.
good luck with the marathon Seth, if i happen to see you here (i will be running as well, but not the full marathon), i will say hi:)

I know it shouldn’t still be $150 but the 1080 v9 is superior to the Vomero 14 IMO for quality of cushioning and fit of the upper. Awesome long run shoe. Not super light but i like to have a little heft to my training shoes.

Race day, well, It used to be NB 890s with a 1080 insole switched in or NB Vazee Prism. Man, they are so pink but I love them. I’m changing it up now though and just ordered a pair of Hoka Carbon X. I’ll at least look fast. Butter my bread, butter my bread.
If someone went back in time to the 80’s or even 90’s with a pair of current gen Adidas, people would say that the Adidas is cheating.
Recently picked up a Pegasus Turbo from the outlets because I wanted to have a replacement for my Clifton 3’s for longer runs, and seems like I’m having problems…. on long runs Both my feet feel hot and my heel-midfoot area start to sweat heavily around 15-20km (which I never encountered on other shoes) Seems I’m the only one experiencing this lol
What about Epic React 2? I just ran 100k race in them worked OK, but not sure they are meant for that?

quick question, How long are the strides you mentioned? I’m thinking 400m?
This man compared comfortable shoes…. and steroids…… I quit
Totally agree on the Ultra Boost’s. I bought some thinking they would be amazing, but you just covered it. Throw you all over the place. Maybe a good 5k shoe, but high mileage….No chance!
But now as I put the 4% on, I too got to make a decision. I’ll just take both of them to Indianapolis.

QOD… I have Clifton 5 in my rotation right now… my Bondi 5s are about done… so I train in them and I race in them… and that’s it… a guy does what he can afford…. cheers!
They need to outlaw all shoes in marathons. Having shoes is an unfair advantage.
Next Marathon. Belgian Championship Marathon in Eindhoven Marathon 13/10. Shoe: Nike Vaporfly 4% FK Crimson Red. Ran 2h44m16s in this shoe in Rotterdam 2019 earlier this year.
I like the Altra Torin for recovery and easy runs; Brooks Glycerin for long runs, to include marathon distance.
Running the Bayshore Marathon this Saturday, in the Brooks.
Can you do a video like this for 2020 but for us poor folks lol
Seth, what would you your top choice(s) be for racing a marathon?
Maybe other companies should make better running shoes, to compete,
It’s mind blowing that 2 runners from Kenya won their marathons must be the shoes. Did WSJ snipe this from VICE?

A guy from the office flew to his marathon only2 figure out in the morning he forgot his shoes. He used his office shoes n did his usual best! Now, if only men can run, awe let’s say a 3mile race in healsI’ll b impressed.
seth, you should invest in the custom next% with a flynit upper! it is expensive but it is worth the extra 15% zoomx foam. especially from my experience with the next%
Stating that “deliberately doing something to gain an unfair advantage” is the definition of cheating can make anything seem like cheating. Why not include training at altitude, hiring a nutritionist, or hiring a physical therapist? Those will also deliberately give you an advantage over someone who cannot afford the expenses. It’s unfair if you do not have the financial means.
Hi guys great video these new balance fresh foam 1080V8 blue look amazing size 9
You think Adidas solar Glide are good running shoes for marathons?
This is obviously a marketing ploy to sell the customers of some type of unnatural benefit of these shoes.
I’m taking both the Next % and the Flyknit 4% for Chicago the following weekend, and the decision will be based on whether or not there will be rain. In my experience, the Flyknit 4% retains moisture way more that than the Next %. Both great shoes and equally capable of good performance.
Good luck with your race!!! You are going to crush it!!!
Kipchoge will be wearing a new Vaporfly shoe with a new midsole for the Vienna race. It will have zoom air in the forefoot and more carbon fiber plates. So even more crazy than the next%!!
If this is really such a big problem just force all the runners to wear the same shoe?
People crying cause they dont like or want to run Nike. They made a good shoe. Wear it yourself or dont.
Great videos lads it was really informative and I really enjoyed the running tips part of it. Hope there’s more kit videos to come especially about the colder weather because I’m just not sure what wear in these arctic conditions! Men’s Fresh Foam 1080v8 UK10.5
I will run the Jakarta Marathon at the end of Oct 2019 in my Hoka Carbon X.
Coz it’s so light and the sole is comfortable. Why did the Olympic committee ban this shoe?
Doping and shoes is like comparing apples and oranges. Dumb regulators. If you really want “fair” martahon comoetition, let the runners run barefeet.
QD: Easy, MD, LR: NB all terrain and adidas energy boost. Tempo, interval: adios tempo and pegasus 35. Road race: pegasus 35.
I’d like to buy clifton 6 for marathon. What do u think?
That introduction undermines Kipchoge still being absolutely amazing at running but yeah the shoe is definitely insane
How is this different from shoe technology improving throughout running history? Not to mention track surfaces, jumping shoes, pole vault poles,… should we just say that a record doesn’t count unless it was run on a cinder track in spikes from 1890?
Hi Seth, I recently bought a vaporfly flyknit in a size 12. I normally wear an 11 in Nike shoes but when I tried it in store it felt a little tight. Now that I’ve put the shoe through a couple of miles, the lockdown of the shoe feels a little loose. I can’t return it anymore and can’t buy a new one so do you have any tips on how to get a more secure lockdown? Thinking of changing to a thicker insole
Agree with your pick! Nike needs to redesign the Next%, mainly reducing the stackheight (too high) but keep the outsole…
This just shows that no other shoe from other brand can match this shoe
If you really think about it the Professional sports records are really a joke, and pretty meaningless. How is it fair that a runner, swimmer or athete today that has all the technology at his or her advantage has the right to break a record set my someone who didn’t have the same technology. Thats like saying a horse and carriage has the same advantage a Ferrari..it makes no sense. And theres not really anyway to regulate the inequility that results from world records being broken today due to technology in its various forms because what is new today is old tomorrow.
3:05 that is not the definition of cheating, that’s the definition of tactics.
I’m wearing the my Next% Flynit at my Indianapolis Monumental marathon. It feels like home just like the 4%. I did not like the vapor weave at all.
I’m running Chicago in a few weeks and was planning on wearing the 4%s. I’ve recently developed PF and am afraid they don’t have enough support. Do you think the Carbon Xs would provide a little more cushion.?
Instant L for under armour. JK great videos and really useful!
QD: I just have a pair of Hoka Clifton 5s that I use for everything, I feel like I should at least have a different pair for race day but shoes are too expensive.
Eindhoven Marathon 13 October. Asics Dynaflyte 4. Why? Because I have US 15 sized feet and they are a good fit for my hobbit feet.
GMO dog’s are used to cause mania and “have to be in front’ syndrome.
I mean come on, as with any other sport, such as football (not called soccer), the technology of the boots, shoes and gloves are always evolving… i bet that within 10 years, the majority of the running shoe industry will be using such technology in their shoes. If you use the same argument against keepers in football, it would be saying, “nope you cant use those Adidas gloves, because the grip you have when holding the ball “gives an advantage” against the opposition strikers”…. cry a bit more, if you were a good enough runner, you would be sponsored by NIKE, to run in them… again even though the guys running in the nikes are wearing those shoes they would probably stille be faster than the other Olympic runners, if they wore a pair of VANS…. just my thoughts
How to sell millions of shoes: Pay a company to do an investigation on your shoe and have them say the technology is so good it should be banned. Well played Nike….well played.
That sole of the shoe is waay too thick no carbon plates or any non rubber materials its rediculous its like oscar pistorius legs
Easy: saucony triumph 5
Tempo/long run: nike pegasus 35 turbo

In videos like these I love it when you say that one of the beauty’s of the sport is that is no equipment, just a pair of shoes and go outside. So maybe mention that and maybe even make a video with a name like “if I only could afford one pair…”
Keep it up:)
Can we talk about how that guy ran 2 miles and isn’t even sweating lol
Wow, sounds like a bunch of crybabies don’t want to spend money on some Nike shoes.
lol we all knew you were gonna pick one of the 2 VaporFlies.
As far the uncomfort you feel with the Next, maybe you’re tightening it up a little bit too much.
Do you have any more videos just like this one. Recent subscriber. New commentator

You mentioning your hair in that manner just ruins the video, and it gives of a bad vibe.

New Balance fresh foam 1080 v8 UK size 11.
Great video guys, would love to hear about building speed work into an endurance training block. Or a similar feature on trail shoes.
Currently running in one and a half year old adidas ultraboosts and three year old nike free 4.0 flyknits. I recently got back into running, hence the older shoes. Just got a new pair of the nike zoom fly flyknits and will be getting the adidas adios 4 soon. Those two shoes and the nike frees (they’re old but I haven’t really used them much) will be my current rotation. Retiring the ultraboosts for casual wear only. I mostly use the nike frees for treadmill runs because they have little to no cushioning and support.
It’s not like the shoes have rocket boosters. You still have to put in the hard works plus, these shoes are accessible to everyone
Comparing shoes to doping is the most stupid and poorly thought out comparison I’ve ever heard
Honestly, I’ve been using my New Balance Beacon’s for everything. Ran a 20 miler a couple of months back in them, whilst I agree they don’t lock down like a racing shoe, they’re extremely lightweight AND cushioned which over a long distance is a perfect combination for me.
For trail Hoka Torrent, fairly lightweight all rounder, perhaps slightly aggressive lugs but I use them onwet muddy trails and bone dry trails and they’re just so comfy.
I’ve put 400 miles in my Clifton 5’s, and after the Beacons I just really don’t like them very much. Unstable and a little clunky!
Many people are using it, so i don’t think this counts as cheating by any means. This just means the competing brands are just not innovative enough.
This video still doesn’t explain exactly why this shoe provides an unfair advantage. Doesn’t every shoe company design running shoes which are supposed to improve athletic performance? What a waste of eight and a half minutes!
You say so much stuff, most of it is meaningless. Constantly repeating what you’ve already said.
It’s just efficiency, nothing wrong with that. Runners wear special aerodynamic clothes and that’s not cheating.
It just likes road cycling. People move from mechanical shifter to electronics shifters, from heavy steel bikes to light carbon fiber bike, even the helmet innovates from letter and foam to more protection and more aerodynamics.
If Olympic, or other organization, really want a “fair” environment for athletes, then just provides the same gear to every athlete. Whatever is the “cheating gear” or is the outdated gear, now the gear that people used are the same and that’s fair, right? (but I’m afraid no one wants to do that, including those organizations). And people will still be yelling, saying somebody is “cheating”, is unfair because of other XYZ reasons…
I don’t understand how it’s an ‘unfair’ advantage. What is stopping other competitors from going and buying a pair of Nike Vaporflys?
easy: Nike zoomfly flyknit, hoka clifton 1, Nike zoomfly
tempo/workout: saucony fastwitch 8, Nike zoomfly flyknit
race: Nike zoomfly, saucony fastwitch 8
what’s the main difference between the vaporfly 4% and the zoom fly flyknit??
New Balance Fresh Foam 1080V8 Blue Size 7
Love the video would love to see a review of race day gear or like a what is in my running bag video
I did a quick first impressions on the next% and talked a lot about the fly knit vs vaporweave upper. Had a much different impression but that could be due to a wider foot? What do you guys think? https://youtu.be/GzpKAJ6UgBA
I think they should all run barefoot.. then it would be fair.
we were meant to run barefoot so you could look at it that any shoe is considered cheating ♂️
ban the shoe. 275$ ist extrem gready, lasting for about 3 marathons. Poor people need a sport which is not limited by money. or nike sells them for 100$. Innovation is fine but the advantage bought by much money is to big.
