While both Locke and Miner have focused on goal setting exercises in a work context, these core principles can be applied to personal goal setting too.A desirable outcome of goal setting is hard work and achievement. Good work ethic is supported when goals are moderately difficult rather than too easy or extremely difficult.
Goals that are too easy tend to undermine motivation, whereas self-efficacy is jeopardized by goals perceived as overwhelming.Exercise adherers demonstrate an intrinsic (incentive to exercise based on the expected enjoyment) motivation to exercise (Huberty et al.). The influence of the exercise professional in empowering clients that they can ‘succeed with exercise’ is vitally important to exercise compliance.There are basically two parts that make up our motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.
Intrinsic motivation comes from internal states (i.e., enjoyment or personal satisfaction), so even if you could wave a magic wand that would make you healthy or thin or strong, you would still exercise purely for the joy that the activity brings you.Motivation to exercise varies individually for diverse reasons, and shifts meta-motivational states corresponding to circumstance and situation, eventually leading to the exercise cessation (Choi and Moon, 1999; Keele-Smith and Leon, 2003). One needs at least six months of steady exercise to acquire the joy of doing exercise, which is the core.
Motivational Activities. Goal setting is often best supported through coaching. One model of goal setting conversation is the Auerbach GOOD coaching model (2015).

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ziglar about 12 years ago at a luncheon. He related a very interesting fact. He had worked with prisoners for years and he said that 90% of prisoners either didn’t know who their fathers were, or hated their fathers. Makes you take pause, does it not? I have my first amateur kickboxing match in July, and something a little more difficult than motivation is discipline. Because some days I don’t feel motivated to run hills in the morning after a night of taking a ton of leg kicks, but I do it. Motivation gets you going, discipline keeps you going. Cheers guys!

Goal setting is a waste of time if everyone knows what you are doing. Why? People are naturally jealous and hate your guts for those goals. They want you to endorse their goals for you. Writing down the costs of inaction is genius! It forces your mind to look at things from a different perspective. This is a great thing to do if you are stuck or don’t know how to solve a challenge.
Motivation is BS it comes and goes like feelings it’s better to understand “why” what I mean by this is why are u working out If u know our “why” then u don’t need to be motivated people depend on motivation too much and that they quit because no matter who u are u gonna hit a wall where u don’t want to work out and u question urself “why I’m I doing this? I should just stay home” but knowing why would push u pass this wall that’s y I think motivation is BS it’s great and all but I don’t depend on it
I discovered Dr. Peterson a couple of weeks ago. Me and my former fiance went to counseling since then also, I’ve been trying to get her to go. Therapy has done well for m. One sessions has unraveled her and exposed that she experiences schizophrenia. It has been a tough week because she has been committed after having a mental breakdown and I have been advised by my therapist to break all ties with her. Dr. Peterson’s video definitely have given me light in this dark time for me, as I am also always working on my own mental health, career and life in general. Stay positive and enjoy life people, be kind to your fellow humans. I mediate everyday and pray for patience to have empathy for anyone going through something hard in life. If you are going through some things you are not alone.

Goals is the biggest nonsense of all time. Goals is like I wish something will happen. No what is needed is mapping the environment and opportunities and making the best of those opportunities. Someone with goals, minimizes himself or herself, when the true potential of the environment may be far greater. Someone that is in complete awareness of every opportunity in his life and environment and world does better, someone that constantly examines the environment and changes and adapts to changing circumstances. Survival of the quickest and most adaptable and most knowledgeable.

The most important exercise I do still to this day I would say,at least, once a quarter is something called fear setting. It is intended to help you overcome or,at least, analyze fears you have, so you can take important steps in different directions. Start new projects, end projects, start new relationships, end relationships. Make those very seemingly difficult decisions for which there is no good timing. Fear settings what is called. If you want the full exercise, you can go to Tim dot blog forward slash TED. I also gave a ted talk about this. You will see in video. There are four million plus views at this point. Also in text exactly all details for how to do this. I’m just gonna point out one peace that is I think under examined, underappreciated, and if you had to pick just one tiny component of the exercise, perhaps that would be it. And that is not just looking at the costs and risks of action, doing whatever it is you are considering doing, but looking at, and writing down the potential costs of inaction. Alright, staying still, not changing. If you are considering, let’s say quitting your job, you might look at all of the various worst case scenarios, the terrible things could happen had offset them right. So you make a list defining all of the specific things that could happen that would be bad that would cause you some type of anxiety, depression, fear, etc.. whatever might me, loss. What you might do, though, instead since that might be very obvious, is to write down similar list in detail, specificity is important, of all of the things that will cost you, all of the things that will happen if you don’t change, if you stay in your job, if you stay, for instance, in that relationship, if you telescope out, I recommend telescoping out, doing different time frames, so if in 6 months you don’t change anything, what will it cost you, make a list. In 12 months, what will it cost you, what will it cost the people you care for. Make a list. Alright, 18 months, 3 years. You could do those 4, and just write down for you, for the people you care for, for others what will it cost if you don’t take that action. Right, this is very simply not just looking at risks and costs of action, but looking at the risks and costs which are probably in many ways guaranteed, this is not a guesswork. And using that as impetus, using that as a list of reasons to take uncomfortable action. I’m moving 12 hrs away from my parents to have a better quality of life and so my husband and I can start a small business on the coast in SC. I refuse to rot in a small town with no opportunity just to be close to my parents. It’s very scary and tests my confidence. In my 32 years I’ve learned that it takes doing something to gain the confidence.

My motivation to keep on training is my reason. I don’t rely heavily on pure motivation because at the end of the day I know why I train. I won’t lie, I don’t like getting beat up, I don’t like exercising id rather be in bad, I don’t like dieting I rather eat what I want when I want, and I don’t like fighting others because violence is stupid imo but what’s even stronger than these mere dislikes is my hatred(I know sounds edgy) I hate feeling weak, I hate looking weak, I hate the feeling of fear and I hate the feeling of helplessness and these are my reasons I continue to train in and out the gym. You might say that hate isn’t a good motivator but through this hate I manage to learn to love martial arts and respect those who do it and now any day I don’t fight or train I can’t stop thinking about the next time I will. It’s odd how can someone not like fighting but learn martial arts? Well people have their reasons and I have mine.

This is just superb, I have been researching “goal categories life” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of Conoah Goalify Gotchie (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now )? Ive heard some great things about it and my friend got cool success with it.
I think something that should be mentioned is rest days. If you need a day off, and it is for good reason, don’t be afraid to take it. That one day won’t stray you from your goal. You don’t want to overwork your body and end up injured, so take that one day but don’t let that one day turn into two, three, four etc.

I have lots of projects/stuff I wanna do before it’s too late ( I’m not young anymore, I’m 33) but because of my financial situation atm it’s gonna be difficult. I want buy a better car, buy expensive jewellery: a diamond watch & a gold ring, want a couple of tattoos ( 2 or 3), a few piercings, dye my hair blond, buy some new clothes, afford to sleep with escorts, manage to hold on to a job for more than 1 month: my last job was a fixed contract of 1 month ( the longest job I had lasted only 3 months! even though I wanted to work a few more months) to save up to go on holiday this summer. I’d also like to visit many countries ( I’ve spent most of my time here in France, I haven’t been abroad to many countries). There’s so much more I want to do! I have so many projects & dreams but unless my financial situation improves significantly, all this will just remain a dream

Interestingly enough though, i find that i do my greatest work when i am at my lowest point. That is, “this sh*t needs to change right now…, then i make my plan and act on it.

This question is a little off topic: Why do people choose to train arts such Aikido rather than Jiu Jitsu, Kung Fu rather than Muay Thai, etc.? The “traditional” martial arts haven’t been proven to work as well/aren’t very consistent. Sure, you have someone everyone once in a while like GSP that does Karate, but more often than not Muay Thai or boxing wins.
Shane I got a fight on the 4th at 60 kg and on the 10th as well, the problem is that I’m 64 kg now and am struggling to cut the weight, what should I do without being drained

If I could script my life, I would say wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom. Why? Simply put your savvy and intellect rule everything, so if that’s out of whack nothing in the material world could ever work out. In other words, be smart and the work will follow that.
