Congrats! Help please! What would be the best trial bike to start praticing without any experience at all? Gasgas, Montesa, Sherco, Scorpa? And the model? I’m 1.80m and 85kg. Thanks.
“…..
it wont leave track marks on your arms, but prob just your but when you fall off” hahahaha
You should come over to England and ride at a place called cowm quarry
Im no pro and like to think im quite skilled in the art of not falling off, yet i watch these vids because every day is a school day and i think watching other riders is the best tuition anyone can learn from there wins and fails on the trails.Good to see im not the only bloke tackling some snotty stuff on the good old drz shes a go anywere machine
your bloody knobs from editing, my editing becomes bloody get edited…
Dude, these videos will help me alot. I haven’t even rode a bike since I was 14 (5 years ago) and I used to have great throttle control but I lost it mostly. My dad almost won the ISDE west coast (US) in 1996 and I want to be that good one day.
It is funny you just posted this. I tried a climb yesterday that I have been wanting to try. Pulled it first time. 1st one to pull it that i know of. Big time confidence booster.
That exact same thing happened to me at 5:21… It’s in pueblo Colorado and super sketch.
Love your channel! I’m laid up for a few weeks from surgery. Just got a small klx 250 dual sport. Can’t wait to hit the trails and try out some of these tips. Keep it up with the videos!
I can’t believe I keep watching this drivel… It has made me a better rider. I have visited far off lands (next door), I have met some really swell folks but come on. The shit is free??? Wow. Thanks Barry! See you at GB4?
It’s wild to me to see how often and quickly they shift weight from front to back, keeping weight on the pegs. This was an awesome video, thanks for the slow mo!
i love the disclaimers you put in the beginnings of each vid.:)
Ive been riding road bikes for the past 30 years and Im just getting into dirt bike riding, buying a Honda CRF250L, so this channel is a bloody gold mine. Thanks for making it
Tractions the only thing keeping me alive on black ice, momentum is key even when going through 2′ of snow and ice which can act like mud real quick, dont ride in too high of a gear for two instances, you have to drop down one to keep momentum and rpms the same for engine braking and not too low of rpms so the engine isnt being asked for more power than it has
Great video..my first log jump attempt caught my back wheel an donkey kicked me forward into a tree..lol…bike went to ground an I was hugging a tree like I was trying to climb up it..geesh
Hey, super keen to get a trials bike. Â Do you know of any clubs that are close to the northern end of the Sunshine Coast? Â
I love the slow pace of your talking. Just because it’s soothing
Awesome video! All the footage is great. Speaking of footage… I’m still waiting on your full review of the 360 one X camera review before I buy a camera new action cam. Will it be coming out soon? Or did I somehow miss it? Thanks ✌
Is it too late for a middle aged, slightly overweight man with diminished skill to get back in the saddle and tackle his first Clubman enduro?
Covid 19 has offered me time to get ready, what would you do to start to prepare?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I’m a Gumby but I hope to be a bloke someday. Or even a real man. How much does Mr. Jarvis charge to teach my bike so it can teach me?
I wish you guys would stop making want a trials bike so bad! Â haha, thanks for the videos though…lots of good tips!
“Avoid negative self-talk” everyone think that I, a litle scientist girl, can’t ride on enduro. And when it everyone everytime told you, you begin to believe. It’s the neverending war between my dreams and the others opinions. But I know I can do it!!!! And I never stop! 😉
sometimes you do have to acknowledge that its impossible and only Jarvis can do it
Is it ok to used 150 cc for practicing enduro skills? I am using klx150L
I need help with managing my gimp. Barry please direct me to this video immediately!
Watching your channel for some time I realized I needed an enduro bike. I bought a 2013 beta 250rr.. I do miss the yz125 hit but the difference is night and day. Really helped me learn to ride and not fight the bike.. 80% rider but a yz125 with no flywheel weight and a 230lb rider just won’t do what the beta will.. I find myself being able to actually apply clutch techniques like you’ve shown.. Thank you! Because I would have bought another mx bike and not understood why I can’t prevent tire spin. Load the suspension without looping out ect
Skipped the disclaimer. Saw comment below on how funny it was. Went back to read it. Still laughing.
I’ve watched several videos. I just finally paused to read fine print… I’ve now subscribed and need to rewatch all the others again for cv19 laughter relief.
Thanks a shit ton of polished turds for the tips and video gold.
You guys thanks for all the advice it has help me alot especialy having a diferent perspective riding, very informative vids keep it up
My wife will be pissed when I tell her she’s only 20%. Rusty buckles
Where is this I cant even look at ktm without some asshole asking for mommy or daddy signature….if 30 years old and work my ass of what’s mom and dad got to do with anything
Great stuff man.I’m battling a narcissist mom who keeps rattling the confidence of my now 13yr.old daughter that I’ve raised and teach on every level of life with patience+wisdom like yours. She is very skilled at self-defense,quading,motocrossing+now going for volleyball that I prepped her for.She went in to the camp training confident+did great but mom kept games on her to make her now nervous to play in real game.Goofin around I tapped her with a jumping kick+got met with the worst 4 letter word from her.I”can’t”do that!Darn it kiddo I have to prove again that’s why!2minutes later she was power kickin with an awesome jump kick.Your so right about the mind and your knowledge of it must have a lot to do with the awesome easy way you put forth heavy riding skills.
yea seen those video’s mate, say ya be flying now , maybe ya could do a video or 2 on your big bikes showing us guys less fortunate not to able to get birch schooling how’s it’s done
Just started in the states cause of you. Gonna send ya a bill for my broken neck! Thanks for everything you’ve done and are doing! KTM BABY!!
Like is said over and over… Seat time. Seat time. Seat time..
Spot on, mate! The mind is a terrible thing to waste. “The more you knowwww……” But seriously good advise. The best at anything, ANYTHING are the ones who obsessively visualize and practice in their sleep. You have to be hungry to grow. Love it, and love that you are contributing to the community!
Jajajajaja by far the best channel. Helps anyone to keep their feet on the ground. Saludos desde España
More addictive then heroin but won’t leave track marks on your arm. Best quote ever.
Well worth subscribing and becoming a paid member! Content from the other hemisphere keeps you going during the long winter months. Now I can crash with style!
I might comment this a bit too late, however here are my two bits: don’t apologize for your voice or the pace of your talking, it makes you Aussie accent bearable and understandable:). As for showing confidence, there is a saying: fake it till you own it.
Most importantly of all, find some decent dirt riding video from guys who actually know what they’re talking about…  Crap, NOW you tell me. I know you’ve prefaced this with every video you’ve made but it wasn’t until I heard it from your very own lips in your slow and monotone voice that I believed it to be true!  Just kidding, Love the videos and that Jarvis kid watches you guys for tips and tricks.
thanks for talk slowly & clearly, its really help. I like your style dude
May the seed from your loins be forever fruitful in your woman’s belly. Oh and thanks for the great vids:)
Thank you for all your efforts. Truth is hard to come by these days.
Making mistakes and realising that the world doesn’t instantly end helps me a lot. And carrying spare levers.
The most important part about finding traction is knowing which places you wont have traction
I 100% recommend this channel. I’ve been subscribed for years. It’s cost me a broken leg, hundreds of bruises, thousands in insurance deductibles, and many more thousands in dirt bikes, gear, gas, oil, parts, and supplies. Life changing!
Barry. You guys are the best ‘crappy’ channel out! Found it years ago.And look forward to all your content..from Middle aged gumby, who.got an E-mtb to recover from a big crash..And have the best fun i’ve had in years. Life is short.Get off the couch.Relax on trying to be cool.No one really cares. Be good to each other and have fun.
Dear Barry, To spend 60 hours a week is very noble act with little financial reward as still having to use your savings to stay afloat. Are we all worthy of this incredible generosity?
I have watched all you excellent videos and contributed nothing financially. This makes me feel awkward so now I must make amends. Can you help me now make a donation to you. Please other follows open your wallets and help this knight in shining off road body armour to keep up the brilliant work and stop using his savings:-)
Knowing your limits is probably the most important thing ive ever learned.
So as a supporter I can attest to the fact that we do get longer Gumby videos. They have become a fantastic sleep aid and for at least one day a week I am able to fall asleep at a reasonable time.
If only there would be semi regular content on the adventure channel. Like riding techniques and the same fun we have over here. Never ridden a dirtbike, never planning to because I might like it and in Germany we arent allowed to go offroad anywhere legally. At least not in the south. So adventure is where it’s at but last video was an ad 2 months ago and 5 months ago there was a travelling video.
great vids! dont know how you big guys ride???it be nice to be 160 lbs (for a day)
Still the Gold Standard for “Dodgy” vids featuring “Old Gumby Riders”. Absolutely love it! Re-Subscribing right now!
oh common, clutch control, balance, body positioning… are all that I lack but I still back flip 5th wheels on a 80 degree slope!
1:29 Oh, thank god! Here I was thinking he was gonna tell us to run 10k a day. Running is fecking bullshit
Any awesome right extreme enduro riding spots around the Gold Coast that you know of? Have you guys ever ridden ormeau or glass house mountains? If so would u class that as extreme enduro?
Many riders in the video seem to have fallen on their buttocks’s. Is there any protection gear available on the market that is designed for dirt riders and protects the tailbone and lower spine? Alpinestars has them for street riders but not for dirt riders.
Great video! Traction is a huge concern when you get half of a dirt bike stuck in muddy water holes. Over here in Florida we have sugar sand and 1 to 2 feet deep dips that fill with water when it rains. Those dips retain water extremely well and can be there for weeks and weeks after a storm. When I ride through them I either launch the bike from second gear enough that that front wheel is about 2-3 feet off of the ground, come at it with some speed from the get or pop the clutch in first so that front wheels is waaaaay up and when it comes down land/ on the other side of the hole outside of the muddy water so I don’t flip over the bar. I would LOVE to hear your break down on getting over muddy water holes that often come about in trails. I see and hear of people flipping over the handle bars all the time.
”How to keep a KTM running”….
That’s easy;
Fill tank
Put on Stand
Start
Shift into First gear
Let it run at idle while remaining on stand
–
Following these simple steps will have your KTM running for
several hours with zero issues. At the end of the tank
you may want to tear down the engine and remove the brass,
aluminum, and metal shavings, main bearings and crank,
and while you have it torn down,
it might be smart to just  go ahead and replace the entire engine
as well as the transmission, the starter should be good for another run,
the decals have a life time warranty.
ITS BEEN AWHILE SINCE THIS WAS RECORDED,BUT WERE THEIR 300CC TWO STROKES ABLE TO PULL THIS CLIMB IN SECOND GEAR?
Profound wisdom buried in this one. Thank you for the videos. PS fuck that Darren guy.
Im just doing a major rebuild on a ktm400exc which should see me lose 10kg when i switch from my crf250l to the ktm.
….most of it will be expelled through my bottom 1st time i send it…
pro tip: let the air out of your friend’s tires when they’r not looking for calling you a soft cock!
I smile when ever I see that white drz we need more of that bike in future vids
best advice i’ve heard yet on “training” to ride. endurance is built by, well, enduring. riding skill is improved by, well, riding. riding for fun is just the icing on the cake. i begged my mom to let me quit piano lessons when i was a kid because it was boring as all getout to me. yet, i taught myself how to play the guitar, because it was, well, fun. (however, now i’m 40, and i wish i’d have stuck with learning the piano as well.) Sounds fun now… maybe it’s time to give that a go again… NAW, I WANNA GO RIDE!!!
Thanks guys! I don’t have thousands to give to Chris whatshisname so I’ll just start with the content found here.
I am learning through my spouse (Which we all know hardly works and ends in frustration on both ends)
These videos are a life saver. Thanks man!
Hey, Tim is just like me rides for fun and fitness. (Its a pity I’m not like him though.)
Its helps me to listen to music or talk to my self when riding, when i do that i fly down trails
What is your most annoying riding thing? Mine is hitting neutral instead of second gear
You guys have the most informative as well as entertaining stuff a reintroduced rider could want. Thanks.
What would you pay for a kdx200 gonna offer 1500 for one with 801 miles?
I don’t think you talk to slow.
One of my favorite parts about these vids is how chill you are (riding and talking). People can get plenty of overstimulation elsewhere/everywhere.
This is still the best dirtbike channel I’ve found by a long shot!
You’re the calmest biker I know. You probably meditate daily:D
Me = Riding out of a wet paper bag skill level…… 0. Heading out for a week long camping & riding trip in the high desert and woods, will give your tips a go! thanks for the vids buddy!!
Seems at his skill level this vid isn’t realistic. Could you have him redo it on a KTM 1290, BMW R1200GS or Triumph 1200?
Best training is to get hours on the bike!! Ride with me on my channel!
amazing video but I think with 50cc is more difficult 😉 If you want pass on my channel
Please contact me and my buddies if you come to the UK. We will show our version of green lanes.
Really awesome & great job mate! from BASIC INTER ADVANCE training skills.
please never apologize for your tone of voice.. its actually the reason i bought a dirtbike:-)
If you ever come to US of Murica, I want to be a part of it! Cheers…
I’ve only had my 125cc pit bike for 3 weeks now and I ride terrain like in this video…I have way more confidence than skills, mountain biking also helps too, check out my videos. Thanks for your uploads, they help a lot and inspire me to ride better
I actually love the way you talk in these videos. It was what 1st turned me on to them, great information too. I have found these videos to be the most helpful ones for me on youtube
hay mate was wondering where you get these seat strap handles. cheers
this has got to be my favorite channel on YT rn. killing it & you’re right! this should be FUN, cut down some of the bullshit & get to the core of what we all love.
gonna push to do the same on my channel, thanks for the great content! check me out
I follow this channel, Joey Mac, Plaeco, Hard Enduro, TCtricks, Chris Birch, Taylor Roberts, and some other trials and hard Enduro channels I can’t name off hand…
I’m into bike control and technical skills/terrain
I have to say, I love your videos. They are very well done and informative and funny! I’m new to riding. My wife and I picked it up as a new hobby last year and are having a blast. And these videos really help with learning techniques so thank you!
21 mx instructors thumbed down:-).. its all acknowledging the masterrrr!!!!!!
Entirely agree with your disclaimer bit about talking slowly Baz. The sound of your dulcet tones irritates ‘her indoors’ like no other, but –
a) She knows nothing about dirt bikes and
b) Your (slightly taking the p*ss) drool makes me smile (or could be smirk) every time.
Never thought about the speed allowing non-native English speakers, better comprehension, but, yeah, you’re dead right.
Trust your instincts m8 and keep up the great vids Best on the web I’ve found 😉
Awesome videos put out by you guys. I ride a heavy honda 650 XR, can’t really do as much with this big bike.
I love your vids man! Starting riding a couple years ago got a 2018 beta 350 rr. Matchy match gear I suck but love it every day. Your vids get me through the hard times when I feel I’m not improving and to remember to have fun and laugh. My group calls me the masta beta. (They all ride Ktm!) maybe one day you can make a trip to Idaho great riding great people.
Took your advice on letting the air out of their tires… They had tubliss and it didn’t do anything.
im 10 i ride with my dad and want to be a rough rider is there any more vids i can watch cause u just boosted my confidence so i know that your good at what you do
ive got too much “yah, i can do it”
my brother brought by a kx110 and i instantly started doing things i probably wasnt ready for and wound up bruising a tendon in my left foot
then i got bored one day and found a trail with my klr650 with a lowered suspension (i got it used that way) and shinko 705 tires, and exasorbated the bruised tendon fucking around with log hops
I’m the same. Working out, walking or running is boring. I can’t make myself do any of that. I had lost about 20 pounds last year. Gained almost all of that back this winter. I’m 65 years old so being overweight is dangerous at my age. Trying to get myself motivated to ride a least two or three times a week. My bike is in a storage garage. So it’s a chore to drive there, load up, drive about 35 minutes to where I can ride. Drive back, unload and be at work at 11:30am during the week days. Need to try it and see how it goes. Riding is definitely the best exercise I can think of.
Hey mate I saw the couple of clips of fire tower hill out at glass house morantains and if your interested I’d love to meet up some time for a ride I’m still pretty new but might learn a thing or 2
should I get a cross instead of enduro (both 250) as first manual gear bike after a 150 scooter?
I have been learning so much from your videos! Also trying to practice the techniques out on the trails and passing on the info to my fellow riders. You’re knowledge has helped make my weekend riding more enjoyable and thank you for that. The whole stay positive thing is very true as well, never say never! (unless it’s a vertical cliff haha that made me laugh)
…And I thought I was the only one who stared at my bike.
It’s funny how life experience can affect your riding technique. Growing up here in Alaska, in the ’70’s I learned to drive in our family pickup truck, a two wheel drive ’68 Dodge half ton with a slant six and three on the tree (straight six engine and three speed steering column shift manual transmission). Two wheel drive in snow, you learn about traction fast! My dad was the master, I have to say. We didn’t have our first four wheel drive until ’78, and I think Dad was disappointed. He could get any car or truck unstuck, and the 4×4 was too easy! LOL!!
Many of the techniques you mention carried over instinctively to bikes for me. Don’t sit and spin, the roll back (amazingly effective, no matter how slight), rocking. Weighting of course is unique to motorcycles, but once you develop an instinct for traction, you get creative about finding it.
The number one lesson about traction, driving in snow and ice with two wheel drive, was not to lose it in the first place. It’s a rule that translates directly to dirt bikes and is a hallmark of my own technique to this day. Momentum is a key element, and when coupled with techniques of weighting/de-weighting, clutch and throttle control, can be a powerful tool. It is in fact what the pro’s are doing when we see them conquering impossible climbs.
When we first moved to Alaska in 1969, my dad was a teacher and school administrator in Homer. Among his duties was tending to the families schooling on correspondence (today it’s called home schooling). One of those families was the Kilcher family, who lived on a ranch far outside of town, way down a steep mountainside from the road. The Kilchers are the subject of the Discovery Channel program “Alaska: The Last Frontier”, and the brothers, cousins and other relatives of singer Jewel Kilcher (this was five years before she was born). Back in those days the family truly lived off the grid with mail service being their only connection, besides the road, to the world outside the ranch.
Dad had to meet with Atz, the patriarch of the clan, and so it was arranged that Atz would meet us at the top of their miles long, steep, icy driveway and take us down to the house. Dad brought my brother and I because Atz was famous for his driving technique on that icy hill and Dad knew we would enjoy it. We did! Oh my goodness, it opened a whole new world for my 9 year old brain! Atz drove then rare Subaru’s, but that was before they were four wheel drive. They were front wheel drive, which helped of course. But what a roller coaster ride it was! Sliding and speeding through snow and ice, splashing through creeks that would be frozen solid if they weren’t flowing so fast. It was crazy! But momentum was Atz’s great effective weapon in the battle for traction.
Momentum comes in many sizes, and as you point out in this vid, even a few inches of rolling can develop the modicum of momentum required to tract over an obstacle. So momentum doesn’t have to mean great speed (though it can!).
Great video Mr. Morris, I enjoyed it very much. Thank you sir.
Excellent tips! I see a lot of riders standing next to their bikes pushing with the wheel spinning…
With no weight on it the spinning isn’t doing much at all so the rider gets exhausted.
I was glad you showed tug ropes at the end since I think every bike should have them if any riding puts them in the situation where they need help.
I like simple soft-loop webbing tie-down straps. They are inexpensive, come in various lengths and colors, are super strong, and are sewn with a loop on each end (actually they are one loop sewn closed in the middle).
Pop the top triple clamp off and drop a loop over each fork leg and bolt the top clamp back on.
The rear loop may be a bit more challenging to mount depending on the frame layout but should be easy to figure out a good way to fasten it on if you want one. The front loop is going to be used a lot more than the rear.
hi Mate! I am ecited to finally tell you I took matters into my own hands and located an xtrainer 3hrs away and took the haul to buy it! got sick of waiting. short drive! check out my display video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBtNlBemNW0
This is a random tip but its handy to take weightlifting straps with you, if you get your bike stuck in bad mud or water you can wrap the straps around the bike like you would a weightlifting bar and it will save your back when pulling it out.
Basically, if you think you cant make it… fake it! And you might learn something useful in the process.
Your riding places looks so abandoned and lonely. But i like it.
What does it say about my riding if I am using your vids for visualization??
This works for me… all i do is visualize everyone laughing at me when I fall down and my body just makes me DO THE THING!
Man your vids are soooo good. I’m a motocross and enduro rider, now 50, so I can really relate to what your saying (injuries, etc)…I discovered the joy of trial/cross training-riding here on your channel; it’s a priceless discovery! Anyway I can contribute via paypal or something?
Could you please sell to me a 300 XTrainer?
Delivery to Brasil, Belo Horizonte.
The land of Red Bull Minas Rider Hard Enduro
My dream is that bike.
If anyone can do it, please contact me.
Graham Jarvis must be an alien because us primitive humans could never ride like that:D
As my strings (ya know music) teacher said, “if you cant do it, remember, you cant do it YET!”
Good stuff. I’m amazed at what hills I’ve climbed on my ktm x-w 500. I usually approach the hill in second gear and then shift down as needed. Is that ok? Some hills seem too steep to hit them in 1st.
Im 43 tomorrow and addicted to speed, rallye and road racing..I guess its a bit like you said Herion addiction. Its hard to forget the feeling of a two wheel drift on slicks thru turn one at Eastern creek quickly like a junky craves the next blissful hit shaving the edge of death without a thought for it, its that satisfying.
I can only guess trials is like going to church, you don’t want to go but when you come home your much better for it.( only those souls who were forced to go to church by their father will agree to this one 😉 I think its time to go back to church! The church of Trials.
Thanks for another well presented and spoken sermon:)
Video is too short! I didn’t get to laugh nearly long enough! P.S. Son ordered the Tubliss system this week. My turn next!
I thought there is another lawsuit… your youtube page was down for 12 hours… Your back!!!!! hapy hapy
80% the rider
20% the bike
Imma head out and shread on my chinese dirtbike!
Maybe a dumb question. (beginner enduro rider here) When im stuck on a hill and I need to let the bike roll back I always have issues with not letting it roll back too much. Is it something that you use the front break with? Or is it pure fluttering of the clutch to keep the bike steady?
This is a great video!
Not many riders think into it like this.
I recently in last 3 months have got a bike and started riding agian after a 15 year break after spending 10 years riding and competing in amature gncc racing.
I went on a ride the other day with riders 20 years younger stronger.
I didn’t hold back held strong all day riding fast not as fast as i could before. Coming down a dry slick logging road at fast pace and a moment of loss of confidence front washed bike flung me about 18 ft. Came down hard! Like its been along time since I hit the ground like that! All becuase I lost focus and froze up! Soon as the sprain heels up I be back out and will think about this vid
“…watching the top riders doing the stuff you want to do.”Why else would I be watching these dodgy videos? I imagine myself doing this all the time and when I finally get back on the bike to try it, I’ll prove to everyone that I really am a soft cock. I mean, uh, well, I need to practice first right?
What if you are stuck and your feet cant rich the rocks or soil..
THAN YOU! I have been an enduro rider for quite some time now, and I like to think I’m pretty good, but this video has improved my form and it has just helped me a lot.
I used to get stuck a lot, so i bought a DR650… problem solved
Moto therapy, always make me smile to watch those video …. and a bit envious too..
Genuinely your videos are amazing thank you 😉 Love the humour also
im pretty that chakra shit only works for the human body not mechanical objects. may be wrong but yeah
I’m glad I found some excellent quality videos I can enjoy while working toward my new dual sport / trials bike maybe. Super excited.
Enduro has the cool off-road riders and fans. Helping each other, rather than t-boning each other..
Dang it, I really wanted to be the “69th” person to like this video. Oh well, maybe next time.
The trick I use for getting over giant logs in one I learned somewhere is go in maybe 1st or second gear, stand up while you are leading up to it, compress the suspension and a blast of throttle will propel you over off camber logs that are slippery and big diameter logs or rocks that would otherwise slow you down and wear you out…
When are you guys coming g to South Africa? We have some of the best riding terrain nearby a city called Durban in KZN!
Great information, and we get to see you flaws too, thank you, subscribed…..North West Washington, enduro and Hare scrambler, 846y, M846n.
top traction tip just enploy a refugee to push me up the hills,
Great vid that bears revisiting every little while to remind us of the basics of TM
Your Cross Training Series are the best lessons I have ever seen.
Main advantages in my opinion:
briefly and about the most important (easy to refresh before training);
clear and measured speech without unnecessary chatter (important for non-English speakers);
music and ambient noises do not clog speech;
and of course a moderated subtle humor.
Thanks a many very lot, friends!
Another cool video i just aplied the tecnique of rocking and trail with awesome result thanks alot and keep going best regards from mexico

your videos have gotten me through the long Canadian winter! I have already arranged some skills days with my adventure group where we can practice some of the skills you have on your videos. Thanks so much guys!
Nice vid again!
Wow 4;39, i never see this technique, look like really nice!
Thx for your advices, and your good humour!
Great vids! Can you do some videos on the proper techniques to ride those nasty off camber trails, without sliding down the mountain side?
GREAT ONE! i keep waiting for some midnight oil or men at work back ground music, but it never happens……… wolfmother too would be cool.
Your films are great, but the slowmotion sound is horrible. You can change this in your editing software!
hahah in our group of riders, if they don’t have a tugger strap, we don’t help them!! Needless to say, the majority have a tugger strap now!
I’ve found it’s a bit of most things but lots of riding with good technique is king.
Re the ‘weights cause arm pump’
There is value in the gym but there’s a trick to it.
For me, the gym contributed to arm pump and general exhaustion on the because I was trying to ‘beat the bike’ by being stronger, not by riding with better technique. Big and strong always loses to the continual demands of the bike if the technique isn’t good. And if you’re in the gym to get a ‘pump’ ie ‘beach body’ then your priority is about looks not performance on a bike and you’re already pumped. What you eat has a huge effect on how your body responds to weights too.
Being stronger does help endurance as you can use less effort for a given application of strength the trick is to use technique to avoid significant exertion as much as possible and save it for, well, saving it. Lots of crashes can be saved with a bit more strength (lots more can be avoided with better technique).
I’ve been using a RacerX paid program that boils down to HIIT for cardio on the rower most of the week with 1-2 weights sessions per week for strength; plenty of flexibility/mobility too. It’s taken a few years of concious effort but I’m finally starting to be strong/flexible enough to ride faster and safer with the correct techniques/body position challenging if you’re tall, and older: I do drop one or two sessions a week to add in rest when needed.
If I start to feel I’m leaning on strength to develop speed on the bike (which results in early exhaustion), I drop the weights altogether and focus on technique on the bike: riding is king.
I want to see the bloopers. *whispers* what do you mean theres no bloopers for this video? *whispers* hes just that good after so much riding? Damn it.
Great video and great advice…also, I like the way you say,” mumbo jumbo”
If you ever wanted to bring out a line of clothing, I reckon the image at 3:49 would work wonders on the back of a t-shirt. Where can I buy one from?
I love your videos, I used to ride as a kid like I was a big balled pit bull, I just got on a bike in the dirt for the first time in 20 years and it was an eye opener, I was a fat out of shape unconditioned pig that could barely manhandle my 83 xl600r around a corner whiped out, washed out, recked, layed over, and somersaulted a few times, came home watched your videos went back out today and I ride like I did as a kid and only washed out once the whole ride
We did a tonne of challenging hill climbs (for me anyway) and it went pretty well but I can hardly move my arms now. I was standing with my weight to the rear, butt out and low, gripping the bike with my knees as much as I could but it felt like a constant struggle to just hang on. Was never able to relax my arms, and found it hard to maintain that box arm position. Am I doing something wrong or is this just what hill climbing is all about? Just looking for some feedback from any of you experienced folks out there.
Your guys vids are great me and my mate are 15 and 16 and have been watching your vids for a bit 3 yrs now and have learnt so much from just these videos. Keep making great content.
Blew my bike up today, about $1500 damage, a stick went through the radiator and caused a small leak, didnt notice it was too hot until it was too late.
Will be investing in some quality radiator guards.
At least i had 3 days in a row of riding i guess.
These are my favorite video’s, keep doing it your way! Great humor.
I’m still not sure who “Katie M.” is? Haha! Love your videos! Thanks!
Finally, a group that understands true dirt bikers. Smiling Thanks!
I hoped to learn a magic trick to never get stuck again. Guess it ain’t happening with my 200kg transalp on mitas e07’s
Is there a minimum power requirements for the bike for all this crosstraining? I.e. is it possible to do all tricks on smth like an XR250?
One thing that’s historically made me cautious is not wanting to damage the vintage bikes I ride. I felt like, with the aluminum gas tanks and whatnot, that they just won’t crash as well as these modern plastic deals. But then I started thinking about the radiators and brake disks that all these new bikes have, plus for some unholy reason it’s fashionable to have expansion chambers ludicrously exposed compared to the neatly tucked in-frame styles of yesteryear. And it’s not like my fenders aren’t plastic too… well except for the ’67 anyway…
So my conclusion is, all these people pushing their limits and smashing their bikes into the ground constantly, must just be richer than I am.
I prefer the unwitting newbie rider in the group to help push my bike over the slippery tree roots while I apply a generous handful of throttle.
what do you reckon about leaf hills? normally when it comes to rocks and stuff ill stay in the low revs but when it comes to a steep leaf hill I normally just gas it haha
The only complaint I would have about this channel is if you stopped making videos. That. Would. Suck.
As a fellow XC owner, I shed a tear seeing that poor unguarded linkage being battered!!!!
I find that just falling off and picking up my bike 10 times a ride helps with my fitness level. Does nothing for self image however.
The support your channel link doesn’t seem to be working, might just be my phone though
simple but practical, good stuff mate, have a xt660r which is not light and carry luggage, and from your tips and birch tips in your videos it’s got me out of tricky places as its always muddy and wet over here in the hills, thanks
That RR480 seems very nimble for a big bore 4 stroke, any idea how much that thing weighs?
Following your videos for some time now. We took your advice, and bought every family member a trial bike to practice!
Interestingly enough, I pretty much only experience arm-pump on a racetrack and usually only the small twisty ones, off the road, I often feel strain in clavicles and calves, especially since I’ve started riding on the balls of my feet the whole day, not just in tougher terrain, but it goes away after a day or two.The breathing is really good advice, it shocked me how much it helps to breathe deeply and calmly, it kind of settles your whole body down.
Can you please ask Tim to make a video on static zap on hillclimbs it’s one of the most difficult techniques I struggle with
confidence gives a way to progress.
good channel guys, watching you regularly, keep it going!
Thank you very nice video and demo. Please have you changed just the clutch lever instead of stock, or did you mount a complete system lever+hydraulic tank? I see on some US videos some Midwest clutch systems but I can not find it on the internet. Thanks and good fun!
Somewhat related, but what width back tire do you usually run? My KTM says a 110 stock but that seems a bit thin to me.
Just a disclaimer. I only pause it at the beginning to let the video load because my Internet is slooow. in this case slow is not fast 😉
Question(serious): Is this typical Aussie sarcasm or this one is more polite? I’ve met some mates and they were very gentle, didn’t notice them speak this way. Cheers
Yep on the bike training is the best way. I have tried in the past to do tons of cardio and endurance workouts over the winter and feel like I am in fantastic shape only to go for the first ride in the Spring and use muscles that never got touched over my extensive winter training efforts. I end up limping around after the first several rides. So now I just sit on my arse over the winter, go for the first ride and limp around after the first several rides!
Hello my gumby friends. I wanted to thank you for the vids they have really helped me improve my technical skills as well as basic stuff. thanks again!!
Instead of thinking what will go wrong, make a small plan of how you gonna make it over an obstacle. You may crash but that’s a part of the sport.
Enduro should be an Olympic sport or is it already? I dont know
Haha love the vids I’m a brand new subscriber
Love it, I will definitely become a supporter
Damn there are some very talented riders in the vids
Arm pump went away completely (mountain bike and moto)when I turned my levers almost horizontally. To be able to ride like that comfortably I had to work on ankleand wrist mobility first as well as being able to hip-hinge without loosing good posture in the lower back. Key advantage of horizontal levers for me is: I can put a lot of weight on the handlebar ( braking, steep downhill) without having to close my hands with force. I can leave them totally relaxed. Try it to understand what I mean.
Nothing like Seat Time as I call it…. the more hours in the saddle the more natural a rider you become. You get fitter as you go and less energy wasted. Never a truer word spoken by Tim. Really enjoy watching Tim ride…. precise and smooth. When you in UK Tim??
I heard before also…. the best thing to buy that will improve your performance….. is Petrol / Gas. I’m buying some of it on Sunday
Good advice. Not just for the dirt riding but for life’s lessons. I’m 52 and gonna go hit the mud.
Great to get a bit of insight into Tim’s race prep and training. He’s a hell of a nice guy, and very laid back it doesn’t surprise me one bit he tries to keep things “normal” when he’s under the pump.
Talk about making it look easy. There would be serious injuries on me within 6 seconds of that video starting.
Thanks for the vid again very helpful. I’m still struggling to get traction on hill climbs on my new 300 RR. 2 stroke is more challenging to figure out and I think I am still having bad habits from a year of riding my 500 exc…but Im sure it will come some day.
“But it all checks out if you do the research”
it literally never ever checks out outside of naturalnews, real double-blind scientific studies show nothing beyond the placebo effect with those claims. I mean if it builds confidence by making you think a rock empowers you to ride a motorcycle better it’s pretty harmless in this case, but still dude
My son has that ” quiet confidence” you talk about when riding and life, he is a great guy to ride with and is my best friend!
Tim Coleman doesn’t do what Tim Coleman does FOR Tim Coleman.
Tim Coleman does what Tim Coleman does because HE IS Tim Coleman
Hey my Aussie bros. So I have a DRZ 400s and its a great bike but I am ready for something a bit more capable leaving the street and I have been pretty much set on a KTM, that is until I started watching you on the Beta. There are very few of those here in the USA and that appeals to me. So I have inquired about the 430RS and 500 and they are around $10k out the door comparable to the KTM’s. Any pros and cons you fellas might have would be welcome for sure.
Great vid. English is my first language and I greatly appreciate your diction and speed of speech. It helps to fully understand what you are explaining the first time around.
You are Frikin Hilarious. ROFL. and yes I read your disclaimer..
Can someone tell me what bike is the white one at 2:20? Is that a DRZ400E? Thank you, I love your videos!
It’s funny, I’ve been subscribed for a few years but don’t even have a bike anymore and when I did it was a crotch rocket. Im 46 and I truely believe i will have a dirt bike before I’m 50. Your channel is fun and keeps my dream alive!
This camera look is really good, may I ask how she is there?
another great video. also very nice job on that log where you weight and deweight to the standing position land and then stop
The tug strap images on the Freeride. How is the rear tug strap installed? I have looked for a solution but haven’t stumbled upon a working one. I have lost quite a few bolts over time by experimenting with different attachment points. Front is easy and I use a cheap strap with a quick release so it doubles as a towing rope from time to time.
You’re doing a great job….you know you are…please keep going.
For the sexual coaching, does Birchy demonstrate in the bedroom with the missus or do we just send him the vids where I’ve knackered it up? She who must be obeyed would like to know…
I have lost 10 pounds over this pandemic. My riding has never been better.
I build my confidence up by wearing my under pants on the outside and wear a cape then I just think I’m a super hero and go for it
Jarvis does a lot more than just ride his bike. Walker does plenty of resistance training. Bulking up does not cause arm pump. What an odd video.
Is the bike that Ben is on, a lot lighter than Graham’s? It looks like it changes direction so much easier.
