A torn meniscus is a common knee injury in sports and running. Learn about the symptoms, causes, treatment, and prevention of a meniscus tear.Meniscus Tear Injury: Symptoms, Treatment, and Prevention Causes. A twist of the knee is enough to tear the meniscus, which in some cases breaks and catches the knee joint, Symptoms. A knee injury can cause severe pain in the knee region, which makes it difficult for you to identify the exact.
Not every torn meniscus is the same, and not every meniscus tear requires the same type of treatment. Moreover, meniscus tears are very common, so try not to get discouraged if you injure yours. With proper physical therapy and care, most people heal well and return to.
If your meniscus tear is not severe, your doctor will likely recommend the following treatment: Rest – Avoid any activities that aggravate the knee. You should especially avoid activities that cause you to pivot, rotate, or twist the knee. Ice – Ice can reduce pain and swelling.Causes of a meniscus tear The meniscus can be torn during activities that cause direct contact or pressure from a forced twist or rotation.
A sudden pivot or turn, deep squatting, or heavy lifting.Treatment for a meniscus tear. Specific treatment for a meniscus tear will be determined by your doctor based on: Your age.
Your overall health and medical history. How bad your injury is. How well you can tolerate specific medications, procedures, and therapies. The length of time it will take to heal. Your opinion or preference.
Treatment may.In practice, a variety of factors are used to determine the ideal treatment of a meniscus tear. Some of these factors include the age of the patient, results of nonsurgical treatment, and if there is other damage than just a torn meniscus. In addition, the specific type of meniscus tear can determine the most appropriate treatment.
In the case of meniscus tears, some people think the injury will heal over time on its own. But the truth is that there are different types of meniscus tears — and some tears won’t heal without treatment. If your tear is on the outer one-third of the meniscus, it may heal on its own or be repaired surgically.A torn meniscus causes a knee pain that often worsens over the span of a few days. For some people with a torn meniscus, a doctor may recommend physical therapy to.
A torn meniscus occurs because of trauma caused by forceful twisting or hyper-flexing of the knee joint. Symptoms of a torn meniscus include knee pain, swelling, popping, and giving way. Treatment of a torn meniscus may include observation and physical therapy with muscle strengthening to.Sudden meniscus tears often happen during sports.
Players may squat and twist the knee, causing a tear. Direct contact, like a tackle, is sometimes involved. Older people are more likely to have degenerative meniscus tears. Two C-shaped pads of cartilage, known as the meniscus, cushion your knee and provide stability.
Contact sports or wear and tear over time can raise your chances of this common injury.A meniscectomy involves shaving of the torn or frayed portion of the meniscus to reduce catching and irritation. A repair of the meniscus involves suturing of the tear. In most cases, treatment starts with a course of PT before any surgical intervention is considered.
Meniscus tears. Tackles, twisting, aging, and arthritis can each damage the knee’s meniscus, its shock-absorbing cartilage. A person may feel the knee “locking” or experience discomfort.A torn meniscus is a tear in the cartilage of the knee.
The meniscus functions to improve the fit between the femur and the tibia, to absorb shock and distribute load in the knee, and to help move lubricating fluid around the knee. The meniscus can tear from either trauma or injury or from degeneration.

I just found out that my meniscus is torn from the front to the back of my knee. Surgery to come soon.
1 year post op: All days are painfull. Can’t even walk. Bulshit surgery. Can’t work, stand on my feets etc… 27 years old only. Life sounds fucked.
If you’re going to include physical examination testing please include cliometric properties such as sensitivity, specificity and likelihood ratios. These properties help us choose the most effective physical tests using an evidence based approach. With that being said I wouldn’t choose the McMurray test personally, and there is a valid reason why.
Wonderful information, you answered all my questions, except, is an MRI necessary to diagnose the tear, can it be detected by X-ray?
Thanks a lot for the video!
If someone has a meniscus tear for 2 years and they havent done any exercises regularly…is that an indication for surgery as well? Or it still has chances to heal?
Excellent interview and very informative. I think that this is what I have. I feel the pain specially when I do jogging (impact activity). Normally when I walk I do not feel any pain. Also when I go to the gym and I do legs I do not feel any pain.
For years already; I’ve been struggling with knee pain and osteoarthritis. Furthermore, I developed partial labral tears in both hips…before 37 years of age. Taking this knee discomfort medication “Yοyοkοn Vxy” (Google it)for just two weeks along with fish oil capsules and I am not simply feeling greater, I am PAIN FREE IN A FITNESS CENTER KICKING ASS. Just in 14 days!
Thank you for the ver thorough explanation. Is there a SportsMed or physical therapy affiliate in New Jersey you would recommend?
Can you tear the meniscus just from falling straight on the knee could this happen to me about 6 weeks ago I’m waiting for the MRI for the schedule but I’ve been having constant pain and it feels like growing pains
Wow, what an incredible video.. I’ve learnt so much, thank you Doctor!!
hmmm at 2.11 “The problem with meniscus tears is that they do not heal on their own” then at 3.17 “Sometimes people get better on their own…”
Hi Doctor,
My daughter aged 10 years has “complex tear of the lateral meniscus with a flipped meniscal fragment lying posteriorly” in her right knee. She donot have any pain or swelling.Nor she has knee locked. Doctor suggested to go for Arthroscopic surgery. Please let us know if she really needs operation as she has no symptoms of meniscus tear in her right knee.
She had ungergone Arthroscopic surgery for her left knee 6 months back due to “Discoid lateral meniscus with complex tear” and her knee got locked. Couple of days back we took MRI of her right knee just to make sure her right knee is fine.
Please let us know if she really needs operation for right knee.
Thanks
Balabharat
I thank you for the Q&A. I was given the results of my MRI today and was told I have multiple tears in my meniscus and would need surgery to repair them. I didn’t know exactly what questions to ask the doctor so your information was very helpful!
Hello I’m 15 and currently 5’8 I had gotten a torn meniscus when I was 13 and I’m wondering if it stunts growth
Ehlers danlos syndrome! Please don’t forget us!
Learning this is promising that I will actually go in because getting turned away because I have constant subluxation and dislocations commonly with EDS.
Please fo a video about us.
I’m wondering because I have symptoms of a meniscus tear. I feel popping and have a locked knee when it comes to straightening it. I can bend it fully though from knee to chest and heel to butt. When trying to straighten it, locked knee stops it. But not because of pain. I can squat, do leg extensions, dead lift, with no pain or instability. Has this ever been heard of before?
Thanks for the video!! 3 weeks after a full blown non working right knee (Swollen with bruising) now I nearly have full use (Folding and straight leg). Dx: Arthritis. Hope I am lucky. The bruising is slowly dissolving. Knee still has some swelling.
PLEASE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE EXPLANATION OF THE KNEE I HAVE RIGHT KNEE TURN MENISCUS ALL THE DOCTORS WONT TO DO IS KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY BUT THEY DID NOT EXPLAIN IT IN TO DETAILS.CAN STEM CELL SURGERY HELPS MENISCUS PAIN? I DONE STEM CELLS I HOPE IT WILL HELP ME TO GET BETTER. THANKS
I’ve got maybe this maybe mild I hope I do not want surgery, how long should I go before I start running the injurie was there mild but a month ago i made it worst i clicked and stiffened up and it was very hard to walk on after a run but its improved loads i dont wont surgery even if it means going longer with out running
If you have a torn meniscus and your leg locks sit with your leg hanging it pulls the joint apart a little so the torn part of the meniscus can get unstuck or do what i did and lay down with your leg hanging off the side of the bed. Hope this helps
I got pain played Football, now my meniscus and Acl diffuser interstitials involving tear,, how i get recover from it, if and DOING freely playing again without surgery, thanks in advance sir
I had X-rays on my knees as I have played basketball for years, my knees hurt all the time. the results came back-The knee joints are congruent. There are small to moderate suprapatellar joint effusion bilaterally. No significant joint space loss or degenerative changes are detected. I don’t like taking pain med anymore and getting tired of taking them. I had injections in my both knees as well.
Any idea what else can be done. Think I’d need surgery?
Ive had keyjole surgery and Ive had a sore knee for 6 weeks now. Ive regrets abput this operatio and wander will i ever get a day where im not hsving a tight nand around my knee. Its worse now than what it was before and im disyressed about it im praying maybe in time. But 6 weeks is i feel a long time and no let up from it
When i bend my knee from time to time iy pops with a lot of pain is this the meniscus tear
TB 500 and BPC 157. Unless your locking up or can’t walk, don’t have surgery. Use BPC everyday with sub q injection 250 mg for 4 weeks then 3 times per week. Use TB for 6 weeks, 5 gram per day twice per week. Then 5 gram per month. It gets more costly than BPC but it heals more than your knee. Remarkable stuff. Research for yourself.
Great video. Really good information in easy to understand terms. Thanks doc.
Thank you very much for the information. Love to hear from professional like you
Honey..the thigh bone and the chin bones are the femur and the tibia. Please, do not assume the viewers are ignorant boobs. We know our anatomy.
hello sir i have Grade 1 signal in posterior horn of medial meniscus what should i do now
I can’t bend my knee much past 90 degrees. And when I place my knees on the ground, if I put too much pressure on the affected knee, it feels real sensitive. I have done some activities on my knees and almost everytime, it would swell up real big and be swollen for about 36 hours. It has been over 2 years since it was first injured. I have basically avoided putting the knee on the ground, hoping that it would heal. It has healed some, but I am not confident that I can put pressure on it, when it is bent and being weighted.
I can lay on my back and pull the knee to my chest for stretching purposes, but I don’t go much past a 90 bend. Any chance they can inject it with some cells and it will grow back?
I tore my meniscus skateboarding. I was just doing a turn up a ramp. It has swollen a lot and I have had lots of pains.
I am having a grade-3 tear in the medial meniscus
I feel pinching type of pain while climbing stairs or walking for longer
is surgery is needed for getting back to sports?
I used to do Olympic weightlifting like snatch & clean & jerk
A doctor serious on helping others would answer atleast a few of the questions posted. Shame on JH for simply posting some infor without any heed to public need for answers. yes everything “depends”…….. No suggestions on use of Chondrotin sulfate, MSM turmeric, hyaluronic acid, Collagen combos with ultrasonic massage.
My did it took about a year. The doctor said I was going to need surgery. I took a lot of Advil. Now it fix.
Fucking miniscus all i was doing was squats and there you go!
Hey soo question.. I tore my meniscus ACL and some other ligs uhhh is it possible to return to my previous speed and or possibly be faster??????????
I have been in pain for three years after a injury to my knee they said it was a deep bruise when after a x-ray and at 11 i just listened to my doctor but now at 14 almost 15 I’m fed up with this pain and when to a orthopedic specialist and they said after examining it after my x-ray coming back normal and im now scheduled for a mri to confirm it
how we in treatment meniscus tear with alternative medications? for example marigold flower help threatment meniscus pain?
Having my scope surgery on June 12th…lateral meniscus tear(outside of my left knee). Some of the signs i have and rotations and movements i experience mite help some ppl out so here it goes. Side to side movement..example when i have my left leg at 90 degree angle and move or rotate my leg/knee left its a sharp stabbing pain. Getting out the car since i had to rotate move my leg to do so produce the same pain. Bending my knee sitting in chairs do so too. Sitting down and straigthen my leg out and moving it sideways produce the same pain. Sitting down having my foot planted and simply moving my knee side to side produce the pain. Lifting my leg alot of pressure and the same pain. Hell at first it was hard for me to walk. Sleeping is the hardest part imo feel like i want to rip my leg off shit hurt so bad. Laying down is the worse..its produce the same pain 5 times worse. Shit..is horrible and my tear is a normal size tear shit aint even big!! I HURT MYSELF BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR..so i wasnt a overnight thing..i had xrays..mri..a corizone shot or whatever..i did everything in 5-6 months and the pain the same. Point is depending if the tear at the part of the meniscus that doesnt heal you fucked over time its only going to get bigger. So nothing going to heal it. My surgery on the 12th of June.
I tore my meniscus 4 years ago playing soccer and never had surgery. Here’s my experience with this stupid injury. I can run, walk, do normal activities, and live life with no discomfort what’s so ever.. like a normal knee. But if i play soccer, or any sport, on any pivoting move my knee will buckle (from minimal, to severe buckle, which will hurt depending how bad the buckle was.) knowing this I have several angles and moves I can’t do because my knee isn’t fully stabilized hence: causing the knee to buckle. Normally when it buckles it will hurt a little, to really bad. If it’s a small buckle, I can keep playing knowing I’ll have small inflammation later but not too serious. But if the buckle is bad it will hurt a lot and I will have to stop playing immediately, then I’ll have to rest 4-5 days for the inflammation and pain to go away. To combat this I now always wear 2 knee braces. The 1st is a slim brace and he 2nd is a big brace with metal supports that I wear over the slim one. Keeping the knee tight. This has allowed me to play soccer again. Mind you even with 2 braces I still hurt it minimally here and there but it’s hell of a lot better than without them.
I have been suffering from mendal meniscus tear and my treatment is going on with mendicine ( two month is completed) and it was difficulty to up and down stairs it’s paining
My righr mri report is, grade 3 signal in body and posterior horn of medial meniscus possibly postop changes…. What is meaning… Pls give suggession what to do now
My knees feel like they are on fire! Usually in the evenings before Bed.
Can you have a torn meniscus even if you cand fullt straighten and bend your knee and also there is no swelling, but only localised pain?
Tore mine and it’s been a year and did not repair itself yet
It’s been 3 years since my surgery of my medial meniscus and.. Idk why i think i cant be normal anymore cause sometimes when i am too tired the pain will back again, is it my fault because i didnt do exercise much after surgery? I am even still unable to do squat or run anymore. Depressing.
4:39 How long would you need to have a meniscus tear before the X-ray shows the Osteoarthritis?
i had pain in my right knee xmas 12.i play soccer so was doing alot of sprinting and changing direction alot.in centre midfield every game is a battle.i got the op in april 13 now its fine but my left knee now needs meniscus repair
Is the IT BAND (illio tibial band) being a tight tendon have a contribution to knee not healing from pulling of tendon tightness? Being why swelling isn’t going away permanently?
My knee started hurting in soccer training the day after we played a game, it wasn’t swollen. I rested for a week and then played a game, everything felt fine, the knee wasn’t 100%, but it wasn’t hurting that much so I played. The next day my knee was swollen and it hasn’t gone down for 3 days. It doesn’t hurt that much and I can run and walk easily, but it is still swollen. Any ideas on what this is?
Had to have surgery was and is not pleasant! But slowly getting better.
So recently I was told that I might have a tear in my meiscus. I went to my trainer after school and she told me that she does believe that it is s meniscus tear. She is setting me up an appointment with a doctor. It doesn’t hurt that bad other then when I Ben my knee and it feels like there’s something popping in and out of place when I bend my knee. It hurts then and when I stay with my leg straight for a long time. If it is serious how long does recovery take? Would I be able to play football during this time?
I hurt my knee on December 21 and wasn’t able to walk until 20 days later while having a knee mobilizer on making my knee stiff that day I took the mobilizer off and had a knee brace put on I found out I had a meniscus tear at the root of my inner left knee due to a snowboarding accident I don’t feel any pain but haven’t bent my knee past 90degrees yet and I’m going to start therapy soon but I really don’t want to get surgery due to that fact I work and will be in pain again out of work so hopefully it heals on it’s own and I also got a slight acl tear which is more likely to heal but surgery at 18 man it sucks
Please suggest me. Should i reqire surgery..?
My MRI report point is..
1. There is T2WI hyperintensity and irregularity of ACL suggestive of grade ll injury with stretching of PCL.
2. LCLgrade l injury. MCL are normal in appearance.
3. There is grade l injury of posterior horn of medial miniscus:grade lll injury of anterior horn of leteral miniscus.
4. Non diplaced fracture of tibial spine noted. Small contusions seen in leteral condyles of femur and tibia. the visualised joints appear normal.
5. Joint alignment is maintained.
6. Joint effusion noted.
I had a tear miniscus in my both knees and i made a surgery My question is whether I can play football and practice sport activities again? ☹
I have a very straightforward question. I have been diagnosed with degenerative meniscus, level 2, with no contact with the lower or upper surface of the meniscus. The doctor said i should not operate it. But…if i don’t, this means that it will continue deteriorating, even if i do not practice sports? And..the big question is….does 2nd level degenerative meniscus heal itself? And of so…how long does it take? Please, answer…some doctors say it can hear, some say ot doesn’t, especialy the degerative type of damage….and i do not know what to belive anymore….Thank you so much in advance and please don t judge my poor english, i am not a native english speaker.
I feel like I’m going to have a meniscus tear. How can I prevent this?
reached cortisone injections advise and closed the video. Common…. it such an old and harmful technique for the long run.
I have a torn meniscus and torn ach. I am 41 should i have surgery.
I have very minimal discomfort
Has anyone let this go without repair for years and then continued to be real rough on it due to alcohol or drug use,so then the pain was not active while high or drunk on a daily basis. After years can the pain travel to the hip or upper leg
hello, I just found out after two years after my initial injury that I have a horizontal tear in my meniscus, in those two years I continued my sport but, I’ve stopped my cheerleading now. my doctor is making me wait two months before finding out if I have to get surgery or my treatment plan. Could the meniscus have worn down or my injury have gotten worse? I have pretty severe pain after standing on my knee at work for 5 hours or more. Thank you:)
I tried everything I could to fix my sore knee. After 6 months had meniscus repair surgey. The original pain is gone within 4 weeks and the knee is getting stronger everyday.
Acl complete tear
Grade II tear posterior horn of medial meniscus MRI report Sir please advise me
Thanks….i have this….it popped out a couple of months ago and now pain when i walk allot
Tall Dr, stop cutting off short Dr. I want to hear what he has to say
I recently had an injury where I had an impact on the leg while it was locked out. Kinda like when you think there is one more step on the stairs, only I was trail running. Anyway, I have no pain but its a aches and my muscles get sore after exercise. Also I have a lot of crepitus, sounds like balling up a piece of paper! Whats your 5 sec diagnosis? Thanks in advanced docs
Hai sir complex tear involving so surgery or physiotherapy healing method pls tell sir…
My knee only locks when I make an awkward movement. It locked probably once or twice this whole year. It doesn’t hurt all that much, it just feels very weird when it does and putting it back is even weirder. It makes me sick to my stomach. Weight loss helped me tremendously. Went on keto diet and went from 230 lbs to 190 lbs. Now I can even play soccer, not as good and strong as I used to be, but I can play. I can never sprint full speed, though.
My meniscus got shaved %50 on the left side and my Doctor said I need to look in my ACL 3 surgeries in same knee medial tear, ACL first, repaired meniscus and now %50 shaved, national guard hopes gone
Please suggest me. Should i reqire surgery..?

Apparently there are artificial meniscus implants already in use by surgeons, with new versions under development. So keeping surgery in mind as a last resort, a knee transplant or artificial joint implant may not be the only answer.
Like this vdo very much,,,,most informative vdo,,,,well explained so that non medico person also get proper idea of what exact is happened in our knee,,,
I am non medico,,,and have meniscus tear and suggested arthroscopic surgery so surfing for vdos to get an idea of the surgery,,, resection or repair which is better for meniscus tear
Very informative. Wish I had this information 11 years ago before my surgery. Now my knee is worse than ever and it looks as though I have a meniscus tear again.
I need help I’m a 16 year old boy who has pain whenever I fold my knee and go to extend it I hear these loud cracks followed by pain behind each crack and my left knee dont do this I’m scared
Thanks for this. I had surgery three and a half weeks ago and still not able to walk normally without pain or a cane. With the information I was given generally by the NHS, perhaps I was over optimistic that I would be back working now (back at work 3 days office, 2 weeks physical, 4 athletic). I have degenerative osteoarthritis in the joint and the consultant surgeon recommends knee replacement surgery if not better after 6 weeks. At 67 but very active normally running a business which is high on physical activity, I have been working out overdrive on physiotherapy. Of all the info on here, this is the very best in terms of professional presentation and the overall reality of expectations across the board taking into account age etc. It’s been very reassuring for me. Thank you so much for sharing this.
My left leg meniscus tear sir I am getting full of pain I can’t stand able to walk some time… Will I have to go for surgery r no can u tell me what should I do
My inner knees started to hurt after using a thigh toner. I stopped using it immediately and 2 weeks later my knees still hurt when I’m seated for a long time, not when I’m moving.
I tore my meniscus 3-ish years ago and the symptoms went away with physical therapy… now it’s back. Oh no.
Does small horizontal lateral meniscus tear requires surgery? Please Answer faster I need to go for surgery
Let’s see. There’s the tears of a child, the tears of a scorned woman, the tears of a man.
Apparently it can, because I tore my meniscus in my 20s and recently had a CT scan and it’s healed. I’ve always been a bit of a poor man’s wolverine. I always seem to heal enough to get back on the basketball court. Not 100%, but enough.
Thanks Dr. Nabil Ebrahim. That was the best video explaining Meniscus Tear, very simple and understandable.
can i go back home after meniscus surgery which is 8 hours flight from Heathrow and i had surgery 2 months and 7 days ago just start walking slowly slowly a week ago with a little bit pain in knee lets say less than 5%, doing my excercises 3 hours every day. please assist me really appreciate for that
About to undergo my 4th meniscus surgery. Been there done that, this is unfortunately a constant thing with my body. The first ortho I went to said my,meniscus makes him, think of onion paper and at the rate of, how active I am (even with carp knees!) My genetics, surgical history, etc.. Ill need a full knee replacement before I’m 30 due to my right knee meniscus being so damaged and now that my left knee meniscus is torn and appears to be the same.. I’m screwed.
For all those who are scared. Don’t be. Easier said than done, I know. But honestly the hardest part is when your stiches get stuck in your pants and they pull. I’m serious. Crutches suck but pending if its a full removal or just a repair you could be walking out (with crutches!).
I was told, full removal is rare but does happen and could be in a chair or scooter for awhile but still nothing major.
My scars are little plus signs. Maybe the size of a dime each? Pending on your line of work you could be out for maybe 2 weeks? 6 weeks at the most again pending on your job.
Every doctor is different, every person is different, and every case is different but I can honestly say the surgery isnt bad.
The process is easy recovery sucks but is easy.
Go in get checked. Usually xray is done, then to an MRI, then cortisone injection and PT, then surgery.
That’s how a lot of insurance companies require the process get done so they wont have to pay for surgery but sometimes you can get away with MRI, then surgery.
Cortisone injection HURTS like a mother….. And after it feels like a jello knee but even then its not horrible.
Long story short surgery isn’t bad. Seems scary but it really isn’t. I’m 24, going on surgery 4.
I was back to normal after about a year from a skiing mishap (getting off the lift learning to snowboard somehow ending up in a position with the board literally turned 360 degrees with me flat on my back). Had to baby things for about 3 months and then even at 6 months or so would not have considered sports or anything that I’d need lateral strength for. I did a lot of cycling which I was surprisingly able to do after a month or so. The straight forward movement bothered me not, but I think it helped heal big time. I feel lucky but have no intention of ever putting myself on the slopes again. I love my knees.
My question of the hour and the past year do I have surgery? Perhaps leaning towards surgery I am doing my own physical therapy since late March 2019.
I tore my meniscus on my birthday (march 19,2013)8 months ago. I am finally getting surgery this coming Friday…hopefully it is a successful surgery.
grant it that he’s a pro, and has a massive team around him but Connor McDavid had suffered a completely torn PCL, tears to both his medial and lateral menisci, a completely torn popliteus muscle, and tibial plateau fracture. and he rehab. it in like 7 months.
I guess you have drawn the wrong direction of tear in A and C
Thanks! U gve me peace of mind that my knee would still heal!
I have a posterior horn horizontal medial meniscus Tear. How do I know whether the tear is in red zone or white zone? Plz reply sir.
Sir, I had my ACL reconstruction surgery one n half yrs ago, still having pain and locking in my knees although the MRI, X-ray and Doppler tests showing everything is normal, Do I have any meniscus problem???
Doctors saying to have an arthroscopic test to clear that but after going through those painful days of surgery and not so good recovery I am doubtful, can we heal it physiotherapy only?
2 days ago my knee cracked loud by me bending both knees down to my ankles to grab a piece of trash at work. It didn’t hurt just felt odd because my knee never cracked so loud by bending down. My knee now hurts and can barely stand on it. I haven’t seen the doctor hoping icing it would help. Any recommendations?
I’m trying to figure out what’s wrong with my knee, it doesn’t hurt to do squats, but when my knee is straightened when i’m sitting on my bed or something, it hurts on the inside of my knee on the left side on my right leg. My little brother tackled me and it twisted the wrong way and I could feel it pop, but i can’t seem to figure out what’s wrong with it.

I tore mine a year ago at 18 and I wish it would heal by itself but won’t and I really don’t want surgery
Hello Dr. I have torn medial miniscus which was detected in MRI of right knee ayear back. I have been advised arthoscopy which haven’t done but doing yoga. The pain is better and I wear a knee brace. Do u advice arthoscopy? As drs do not gaurntee that pain will go away
I’m having ac joint meniscus stretched.Does is cause arthritis?? Can a streched meniscus heal??????? Please anyone help me I’m on depression now no more interested in anything
4:20 his glasses have magnets on them and he pulled them apart and put them on his face. funniest thing i have seen all day
Hello. I just cancelled a meniscus arthroscopy at a hospital because they insisted on inserting a breathing tube in my throat to administer anesthesia in addition to the intravenous and local anesthesia. My orthopedic doctor didn’t think it was necessary at all, but the anesthesiologist insisted upon it. It seemed like too much anesthesia to me. I didn’t want the pain, sore throat and nausea afterwards, so I walked. I inquired of others about their meniscus surgery and no one else had this thrust upon them except for one person who needed to use his own cpap machine for sleep apnea. What do you think about this?
I have loose body in knee but MRI showing that its completely normal. And MRI have been done two times
I’m overthingking almost dying. because right now I’m having a meniscus problem. I saw my x-ray and please 1 like 1 prayer for my meniscus
Can a trauma to the meniscus be caused by a contusion toward the knee?
Doctor appointments are a waste of time and money… The shitty doctors always recommend surgery or won’t even go over on rehabilitation methods
40 percent of those 50 percent who had success with pt only go on to get surgery with even better results.
Whether you should have surgery or not depends on the type of tear and your pain level and how it affects your activities of daily living, period. There is no one yes/no answer. If tear is on the outer 3rd, where there is some blood supply, it can heal on its own. If It’s a root/horn tear, a radial or horizontal tear, then you will get arthritis quickly, develop bone spurs, and eventually need full knee replacement. In this case, surgery is suggested to prevent and postpone arthritis and knee replacement. If the root tear was degenerative, and not due to an injury, then you already have arthritis and surgery is less likely to help, but depends how much space is still left between the bones to get in there and fix it.
If you have a root tear, you have to find a specialist that does those repairs, not all orthopedic knee surgeons do root tear surgery, it’s a special skill, the tension has to be exact. They will hoop the end of the meniscus and pull it back in place and secure it with a button screw in the tibia. Always get a second opinion at the best hospital in your area. I had a partial root tear, doc left it, 4 yrs later it’s a full tear and pushed out of the joint causing bone spurs, arthritis, and now my ACL had degenerated from the stress. So, I would suggest get an MRI every year and fix it before it gets worse and causes more damage, talk to a specialist.
“oblique tearin body and posterior horn of medial meniscus with suspicious small flipped fragment in the inferomedial gutter” the MRI shows this what is the appropriate treatment? also can braces help?which type?
I have a L1 tear in my right knee and bone spurs and arthritis builds up in my right knee.
My son’s had pain in his right knee for over 5 years. The past 3 have been worse and have sent him into pain management that he hates. One knee surgeon ran an MRI that didn’t show a tear. Did another one with dye to check for arthritis. That one didn’t show anything either. He had a motorcycle accident 4 years ago which is what we thought caused the additional pain. Ended up with a broken collar bone and a fractured pelvis.
After the MRI’s showed nothing, the doctor sent him for nerve conduction testing (also negative), and then to a hip doctor who did more tests and an MRI… still nothing.
The original knee doctor is no longer doing surgeries, so we did a follow up with yet another knee surgeon. He’s diagnosed him with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. From what I’ve read on that, it’s not what he has. He’s had the knee pain for far too long and no other issues (sweating, swelling, burning pain, etc). He’s getting a bone scan in another week or two that the most recent surgeon says can confirm if it’s actually CRPS.
I don’t believe it is, but I’m at a complete loss as to what’s causing this or how to find anyone to figure it out. I don’t even know where to go to ask at this point. I personally had a torn meniscus that didn’t show up on my MRI, but the surgeon was willing to operate due to the symptoms I had from a past work injury. From my experience, I thought my son had torn his too since he had similar symptoms. But my surgeon wasn’t willing to operate on him from the symptoms alone like he did with mine.
Are there any other tests to be done? Are there other causes for pain like this? My son is going to be 33 next month and has a worse quality of life at this point than I do, and my knee is bone-on-bone at this point! My son’s had pain in his right knee for over 5 years. An absolutely detailed, thorough, informative video. Excellent presentation. The pain is almost bearable knowing what it could be.
I had a burst bakers cyst in my left knee, that was over a year ago and ultra sound has shown that it has not healed.
It is very painful and is most effected when geting up from sitting position leaving you rather unstable in terms of walking.
I had another ultrasoundbdone a year later, still xhowing the tear, at that time the lady doing the scan ask to take a look at the other knee and pointed out that the was also a bakers cyst on the other knee.
None of this has improved over the last year or so, but nobody seems to want to do a nything about it, and it is slowly getting worse.
Are there any sugestions as to what i should do.
Just found out mine is a small tear due to a bump on a wall. Should heal in 3 weeks. I’m damn happy
i hurt my knee almost a year ago and i never went to the doctor and it never healed and it still hurts but im scared to go to the doctors
Great video gentlemen, very well explained in a short time
Tore my meniscus playing softball this past April; doc says have surgery (end of august) because it still hurt…. last 2 weeks I’ve had no pain or very little… surgery is scheduled for December bc of work… should I reconsider??
” Should You have surgery? Nope until popping, clicking and hurting you. ”
oh I am relieved. Thank you sir!
I didnt get the right knee brace for three months, knee kept popping open! No surgery, nothing!!! Its not right, never given proper help on time!!!
I went to a private orthopedist who recommended a surgery. I was lucky because my insurance did not cover the surgery. After that I went to public orthopedist who told me that he can take my symptoms away with a surgery but I will come back after few years. He recommended for people of my size to not have a surgery. Wait for 6 months.
I went to a gym trained my knee with really small weights. Started swimming. After 6 months I was able to run a bit. After 12 months the symptoms did not have effect to my life. I got better even after that. Sometimes I might have some weird feeling in the knee. Not pain. Something might move inside my knee. After couple of years the knee is still good. I have to be careful if I I example start to jogging after a long brake. I have to increase the length of each exercise with patient. With regular running I can run over 40km in a week free without symptons. I can climb or play badminton.
My advice is that if your knee does not lock. It is not really painful when walking. If you can leave with it. Do not take a surgery. Even it is recommended ask if there is a possibility to avoid surgery. I know that it was usual to have a surgery in every cases back in the days. There are older doctors who might recommend a surgery when they should not. It will not fix anything it makes thing worse. You need your meniscus. Have a second opinion. Go to a gym. Have a another look after 6-12 months.
What an amazing video anyone who is concerned about the knee pain must watch it you can learn a lot about it thank you Dr.
Does HA (Hyalourinc Acid/Gel) treatment and PRP help for “High grade mucoid degeneration in the posterior horn of medial meniscus”?
Guys thank you for the FREE info… you guys are very informative but i have to say you need better microphones…
I am basically thrilled at exactly how speedy this unique knee problem treatment “Yοyοkοn Vxy” (Google it)starting working. Immediately after 7 days of usage I seen a vast improvement in my knee problem and also am not anymore taking pain pills. Thank you very much Sir for all valuable teaching you post on the YouTube!!
I’ve had this pain for a year and it hurts every single day.
DRY FAST YOU DUMB FUCKS! It healed me. Your body has all the tools you need to heal. Period. Do the research, try dry fasting 2-3 days a week for a month then come back and tell me to fuck off. Do it then talk, otherwise shut your pie hole. You’re welcome.
Medial meniscus tear & pain sir What doing sir suggestion please sir
By my experience: No. I roll on my knees to get them
in shape. I was told i have no patella left.
Ok? I had a tear on my interior aspect of my knee? Was never diagnosed. Excruciating pain with movement and sleeping at night. Had 10 laser treatments with my chiropractor and it’s healed! HEALED! No surgery! I didn’t have time to take off work (no short term disability) laser therapy heals from the inside
Being overweight can turn your entire world upside down! No more suffering from knee pain, even if you are overweight. Try out these easy to do exercises for a quick relief.
I tore my meniscus when I went running with my dog and I even sprained my calf at the same time and I have tendonitis and LT Band Syndrom. I haven’t been able to walk on my leg for 3 weeks now even after an MRI and medication, and bracing.
Dr. Osaoji on youtube is truly a life saver, finally free from herpes
I had physical therapy for my tear and it was a bad idea. Should of went to surgery. Reason being, it was ripped at initial injury. Went to physical therapy and ripped it going upstairs again. Then, gave up therapy and it ripped even more so at work. Three times. Should of went to surgery from the getgo to prevent further tearing. small tear to bigger tear. like a ripped pair of jeans getting larger.
Excellent video content! Excuse me for chiming in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you heard the talk about Dinanlinson Rocky Position Approach (do a google search)? It is a smashing exclusive product for learning how to fix chronic knee pain minus the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin after a lifetime of fighting got excellent results with it.
so how can i get her please if any idea m suffering from 2yrs after i got an accident
Your video is very informative only if can diagnosed what best can be done in current situation
I have pooping sensation with a mild pain on my left knee with no swelling and other symptom….does it means meniscus tear????any recommendations
I suffered a lateral meniscus tear and I’m only 14 years young, I tore it playing basketball, I went to thearpy for about 3 months, I didn’t need surgery and I thank god for that, I’m now done with my thearpy and In two months they’ll finally clear me:) it took me a full year to recover but I’m glad to be back on the court In two months #striveforgreatness
Hi In MRI report DR conclusion is. I have right posterior horn of medial meniscus tear with joint effusion, My knee was twisted a few days ago. is there any treatment with out surgery.I can walk but feel pain.
Some other things you can try besides waiting, surgery and rehab.
Injections that may help heal it:
1. PRP
2. Stem cell
3. Prolotherapy
4. Peptides: BPC 157, TB500, AOD9604 and maybe ipamorelin (growth hormone secretagogue)
5. Growth hormone injections
I would stay away from partial meniscectomy if you consider surgery. That might make you feel better in the short run, but likely lead to arthritis studies say even if they cut out a little.
Tore my meniscus for the second time.
Trying peptides now.
Hello, how the the lumbar disc herniation can affect the meniscus?
i think i have this in my left knee cause it so painful when it pops and and it locks up
can be there a meniscus tear without swelling? just pain comes and goes.
Just had surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus in February. Today I’m doing some light jogging, squatting, lunging, light lateral/forward hops. What has helped me is knowing my pain threshold, and also doing my best to do my therapy exercises everyday.
I have a tear in the posterior horn of my medial meniscus confirmed by MRI. I have read and seen many videos about the issue and this video is by far the best and most complete I’ve seen. Thank you for this! My choice has been not to do surgery but this video is perfect for understanding your condition and reviewing options.
Thank doctor for your effort
i have Grade I degeneration of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus
how can I fix this problem
Ripped my meniscus 5 years ago at 18 due to injury, still cracks like a water bottle when I crouch down. I use it as a party trick
His accent cracked me up but in the best way possible! Loved it! Such a well explained video! It made it very effortless to understand the subject matter. Thanks so much!
I have this knee clicking 5-6 months ago while playing basketball i reduced my activities…..thn after sometimes i thought to strengthen my knee, as i was not feeling any pain or inflammation so i started working out i started slowly but one day i exaggerated pressure on my knee and after some hours of workout, my knee started to pain, i wasnt even able to walk properly thn i applied a balm of muscle strain the pain was gone…now i m having no pain no swelling it clicks sometimes i can bend it any way..but while walking fastly and jumping and climbing stairs fastly i sometimes feel tht my knee is not good and i fear tht again if i will have my workout i will worsen my knee..i m literally in a great dilemma plz plz plz tell me wht should i do to return back to my natural leg i dont know its been like 6-8 months..tell me whether i have to rest or strengthen, i havent gone for mri coz my parents will stop my basketball plz plz plz tell me how to heal this it just normal when i walk nothing no pain no swelling i want to get back at my natural position plz i will do anything..plz plz plz help me i shall be highly obliged
When I squeeze my knee I feel sharp pain should I go see doc
Problem is if the meniscus doesn’t give you symptoms or pain you can live with it, if it hurts to walk then you better off having the scope surgery to smoothe it out.
Lovely explanation. I thought I had a medial meniscus problem after a knee bump but on MRI it turned out to be bone edema, although some minor meniscus wear was apparent (cyclist 51 years, 6 year vegan). Complete recovery after 2 months.
I had a minicus tear in 2007. I had no surgery and after a couple of weeks pain was gone and no trouble since
I can’t imagine how efficient is this extraordinary knee pain remedy “Yοyοkοn Vxy” (Google it). In only a matter of One week, I observe improvements and pain medications usually are useless for my knee pain. It is astounding how this guide provide results so swiftly and also efficient. I would endorse this guide..
Excellent video! Thank-you very much for education. Very helpful.
Courtesy of my MSK professor: to remember the McMurray test findings, remember “LIME” (Lateral tear w Internal rotation; Medial tear w External rotation). And thanks Osmosis!:)
I will keep my fingers cross that I don’t need surgery but my knee hurts like hell
Hi doc I had a partial meniscetomy for a bucket handle tear and my surgeon. Said the surgery was a success and for my post op. He checked my knee strength and he was very impressed he said my knee was very strong and he said that. That I may or MAY not developed arthritis. So in this video are you saying that I won’t get arthritis?
I had scoop in 2016 but still having pain. knee is crocked. I wear a knee lift but not comfortable.
I have been waiting for an MRI for a month a half. This has been the most informative video I have seen so far. I now know what questions to ask during my next doctors visit. Hoping for an MRI soon.
hopefully somebody can help me, i had surgery on my meniscus back in 2015, and to this day it constantly hurts, nothing crazy, i can walk and run normally, pain is at like a 2 most of the day, some nights it can get as high as a 4, again, nothing crazy, my life hasn’t been impacted in any negative fortunately
I worry though, is there a risk to develop arthritis or further long term damage? I’m 22 and I frankly can not afford surgery or even PT, I’ve been doing exercises on and off, but i guess the main reason I haven’t exercised as much as I should is because I fear I will damage my knee, for the most part I can take it, I go hiking, but can’t take more than 4 mile hikes before my knee becomes an issue, cold weather obviously exacerbates it
any advice? Should i pay for an MRI? Should I seek surgery? Basically wondering what I should do to rule out (or confirm) needing surgery before I actually go to the doctor and pay for a surgery I can’t afford
hopefully somebody can provide me with some insight, thanks in advance!
Dr. Please how or where can we communicate with you for a diagnosis of a severe case please?
My age 29 my medial minuscus is have a cut inside normal swaling I have. Want to some questions from you.
Best video I’ve seen! I’m convinced that I have messed up my meniscus. Gonna make an appointment Monday morning!
What kind of doctor should we consult about this problem? I have a lot of pain.
I’m going in for an knee MRI and this is the most informative video I’ve seen since researching my problem. Thanks!
Thank you to Doc for reaching his dream to treat those in pain & suffering.

I’ve had meniscus debridement on my right knee in 2014 and have been virtually pain free since.
hi. can I ask a question? if the patient have an ACL injury it is possible to have a miniscus injury if the ACL injury is not having an surgery for a long time?
1:05 medial and lateral menisci are the opposites, and the Unhappy triad usually involves the medial meniscus
How bad is it if you tear your meniscus from compression from leg pressing?
I tore my lateral meniscus (the tear crosses all three zones) and I’m going to get part of the meniscus removed and part repaired. (I’m 13) To anyone who went through something similar; What was your recovery like?
i shot myself in the knee with a 12 gauge. Should i go see a doctor about this? I have a sharp pain in my leg.:P
Sir my problem is 1.minimal joint effusion.
2.posterior horn of medial meniscus, subtle stir hyperintensity. No E/o tear.
3.focal hyperintensity at tibial attachment of anterior cruciate ligament. This is my problems sir, I partispate running events it is possible or not please tell me major problem or minor problem
Having had the procedure at age 17, and now at 79 an other tear has occurred on the same knee. I found your explanation to be very good!
i have medial menicus tear grade 1 from 3 month i m not able to seat on floor how many month it will take to cure when i seat on flur plz rply
If you have a torn lateral meniscus, you WILL need arthroscopic surgery.
Hi, I really learned alot from this video, now I feel confident I understand what my doctor was explaining to me about my injury. How ever, the diagnostic methods explained in this video were of no help. I guess my case fell to the 30% that could not be diagnosed with the traditional manipulation tests.
I’m 32 year old male with an active lifestyle.I had a medial meniscus tear on my left knee, with no clear cause for the tear. The surgeon ended up partially removing the medial meniscus and partially repairing the tear wtih a scorpion suture. Some signs of arthritis in the posterior horn are also present. The McMurray’s test or any other manipulation tests did not give a positive dianose of any injury to the knee only after MRI I demanded to get and was initially refused gave a clear diagnose of the situation.. Longer walks or even a few running steps caused severe pain and partioa immobility of the knee, MRI images gave a clear picture of the condition of the knee. Bucket handle tear and possible arthritis. Also a bakers cyst and a meniscal cyst were found. In some cases the traditional diagnostic tools are not enough. This was also the case with my right knee 10 years ago. My doctor ended up telling me that my injuries would have probably been less severe and problematic if the diagnosis were to be accurate the first time I went to see a doctor with this issue.
At 09:00 Minutes is the Meniscular Trans-Plant Done with a Cadaver or Donor ¿¿¿¿
That Sectional view at 50 Seconds is that looking down at the Left Knee or Right Knee, or is it looking Up at the Right Knee or the Left Knee ¿¿¿¿ xxxx
Please suggest me. Should i reqire operation..?
I injured my right knee in a car accident back in 2000. I ended up having surgery to address a meniscus tear, and a lateral release to “realign” my kneecap.
Just my luck I fell last week on the 8th, aggravated my right knee, and really did a number on my left knee. I’m having pain and swelling above my kneecap, on the inside of the knee, and on the back of the knee. It hurts to fully extend my leg, or to do a deep knee squat. It can bear my weight, but not for prolonged periods of time. If I walk on it too much, I’m in agony.
I’ve been treating it with ice, started with heat just as of yesterday, elevation and rest whenever I can. Knee injuries aren’t as painful (to me) as much as they are inconvenient. I happened to fall while I’m currently out of work.
I have knee injury. While playing a football, I mate with contact injury. My problem is swelling, cracking, popping sound and cannot walk up and down. My MRI shows 1. Focal area of marrow oedema seen involving the proximal tibia including the tibial spine. 2. Grade I change involving the medial meniscus (Not a tear). Please what is the possible treatment. It’s been 2 years. Please help.
Thank you very muvh for your great information on the Meniscus.
MaMurray test is no longer recommended in the NICE guidelines due to concerns that it may exacerbate the injury and due to its low diagnostic accuracy. Is it true? thanks
Sir please upload some stretching or strengthen exercises for the problem thank you
I understand much better after viewing this video..thank you
I have a full thickness radial tear on my lateral meniscus 3 years ago, and my dream of being a professional muaythai fighter was finished completely in an instant. Now, i don’t even know what to do with my life.
Sir mera grade 3 meniscus tear hai me…….(COERIP…Rosehip ) capsule use kar raha hon mughe bahat yada relax milraha hai pehele se bahat healing hua hai ase lag raha hai me 3 month use Kia hai ye medicine or kitene din use karu

I have got an injury in my right knee during jumping before 4 months. X ray report was normal. But I’m still facing problems like pain and especially ascending and descending problem in the stairs.
Please give me some suggestions how can I get rid of this.
Thank you again
The medial aspect of my right knee seems to pop out of joint, and there is an audible “pop” when my knee goes back into joint. When it pops out, it sort of locks my knee in a painful position. It is getting worse. I was helping my neighbor change a tire on a full size pickup truck. The tire hit me on the side of my knee, as I was taking it off of the vehicle. What do this think are the chances of this healing itself?
Small radial tear of the anterior horn of lateral meniscus how to repair
Hello sir i’m sonu from india i’m a national field hockey player m suffering from meniscus tear help me sir plzz…How can I talk to u??? Plz reply
Iam carrying a meniscus tear since 7yrs. I have taken no treatment whatsoever so far. A torn meniscus can never be reversed, modern orthoscopy can only trim the edges. I hope with medical advancement, a cure of reversing the torn meniscus is also found. This will be boon to many millions who are suffering from a torn meniscus.
I’ve a grade 3 meniscus tear and torn acl in both knees. No locking of the knees in any direction.
Swelling and pain is there.
Can yu advise something?
how long would be recovery for a torn meniscus tear and scar tissue and need a patella femoral replacement getting surgery soon how long before you can play sports again
I went through one already, the right. Now it’s the left’s turn. This thing hurts.
This is incredible you don’t much concentrate on pharmacology
excellent video sir. step by step therapeutic teaching. am from Chennai, India. well explained the differential diagnosis of knee pain. thanking you sir.
Let me get this straight, I’m fucked, and It won’t heal on its own, all I can do is take pain meds or suck it up w/ physical therapy but won’t rlly be 100% good to know
Ive been living with left knee meniscus tears and every 5 years a flare up. Stabbing pain on the outside of my knee with a little swelling then it goes away

Hey thanks for this video. My MRI scan showed that I have complex tear in posterior horn and body segment of medial meniscus. Radial tear at the free edge of the body segment. I am able to walk freely without pain. It only pains when I put more pressure on my left knee. My doctor suggesting me to have surgery. But I don’t want to have one. Please suggest your appoinion. I am doing some knee strengthening exercise at home.
can we talk about oesteochodoral donor transfer of the knee thats what i am getting done soon
I tore my meniscus on the football field and I went to the doctor and they did the XRAY and everything and they told me it was small and itll heal on it’s own, i was limping for a whole year, it was the worst year ever ☹, but now it’s been healed ever since
My knee has been slightly giving away for about 3 years but never delevoped any real pain. A few months ago, after running seriously for several months, my knee began to hurt quite a lot when to the point where I couldn’t walk without limping. The pain has now stopped but I regularly feel sharp pains when getting out of my car or making turns when I walk. Is this what I could have? I feel no aching pain and my knee never swells.
Thanks. Very informative. I’m going through meniscus surgery deliberation.
1:32 the image on the left represents the left tibial plate as seen from above. ACL and PCL are inverted
I just had ACL replaced…I’m 39… officially one wk since surgery. originally it was a torn acl, mcl, and pcl. My leg snapped backwards at the knee. Mcl repaired itself. Pcl repaired itself. Acl was too damaged and needed replaced. Why is that?
Bull shit, meniskus heals on its own, don’t listen to this, this is Sergury promotion.. for Mony, fucking west man fucking capitalism, they will lie to their own mother for profit.
I tore my meniscus nearly 3 years ago I tore 2 ligaments and a tendon, bakers cyst, I went through arthroscopy, was the worst thing I ever did, my knee locks and can’t lunge at gym, cost me a fortune
Sir i am having a small phereparal minuscius tear in my right knee sir what about ur Suggestions sir
Am 29 years am a soccer player i get knee pain after that i went to see docter he ask mi for to take MRI the results was grade 1 cleavage tear is been 8 months now i can squat stretch my knee bt am.asking can it heal by it self
Has this ever been heard of before?
this helped, ive injured my left knee 3 months ago, and i havent got any mri’s yet cause i thought it would be good by now but actually ive started experiencing a sudden clicking or snapping in my left knee everytime i rotate it
whish your video would have included testing that is done to determine what kind of injury or cause of pain would be
Hey I like the video and very informative, but what I have noticed is no one in the medical field wants to talk about nutrition and how a proper diet will not only help more people to heal on their own but many can heal much faster. That has to do with all ailments.
Doctor… i have a horizontal oblique tear on lateral meniscus… is surgery or physiotherapy is needed to fix this
thank you doctor. in case you read this, this is my mri results
horizontal tear in the medial meniscus involving most of the body and posterior horn. There is also a small radial tear in the posterior meniscal root.
how bad is this? do I need surgery?
I can’t get in with a doctor where I live even though I’ve had an mri. this is the best info I have gotten so far. i’m still a little confused about what direction I should take with mine but at least this give me a better idea. I can’t get in with an orthopedic doctor for a couple of months and my family doctor has referred me to them and won’t see me for this. meantime, i’m walking around in pain, not able to work full time and don’t understand who much trouble I am actually in or going to get in.
one I was running. I felt small pain in knee. and the pain increses with walking. I consult a doctor then he told me that you have medial meniscus problem. now 1 week is gone. I still felt pain. going upstairs. please tell me treatment without medicine
Surprised u didn’t draw the ‘ bucket handle tear’(on board )

I bodybuild. Recently when I was doing a leg routine i was Leg pressing 360lbs when doing the Movement. I twisted my right knee and felt s shap ice pick like pain on it. And the popping sound. I rested for 30 mins and the pain went away. But everytime i bent my knee it returns.
So to be safe. I stop training for 2-3 months not applying R.I.C.E. and just let it heal on its own. Lately i hear that familiar popping sound but No pain.
Then when i started to train again it came back like a Bitch! Everytime i do a leg routine. I.E sqauts, lunges especially it hurts. Like hell then goes away. Only hurts when i bend but not everytime. I can run, jump, Walk. Mostly un inpeded but how do i get rid of thiz. Should i apply more R.I.C.E on this. TY
This is exactly whats going on in my knee! couldn’t of said it better myself. Its been at least 3 yrs now and its killing me.I have had my knee done a cpl of times in the past, but i was tryin to bite the bullet. also i have a lcl tear on the same side as the meniscus tear. not sure what to fix first?? anyone?? thx
I messed up something in my knee about 11 months ago while I was doing box jumps. For about 5 months I couldn’t really do anything with it but it finally started getting better and I was able to squat and do my old normal leg exercises. However yesterday while at the beach I moved wrong and my knee made huge pop sound and my friends around me heard it and today my knee is really swollen and it hurts to extend it all the way and bend it in. Could it be my meniscus? Please help.
I have a meniscus tear. Im wondering if Ok to wear a knee brace since I work as a server and I have to be walking around.
How do they know the meniscus don’t heal? Do they do follow ups on those who have tears with MRIs? I’m thinking they mostly only deal with people with severe tears that have no hope of healing so they think that all tears can’t. I’m just wondering because I had a meniscus tear that cleared up after a month and haven’t had any issues since.
Thanks for the video, I am 26 years old and i have torn my left knee’s ACL playing sports 2 weeks ago and other damages were followed as per the MRI such as:
Torn posterior horn of lateral meniscus.
Degenerated posterior horn of medial meniscus.
Grad I injury of medial collateral ligament.
Lateral femoral and both tibial Condyles bone contusions with underlying fissuring.
Mild knee joint effusion.
I am wondering if it is necessary to make the surgery right away or can i wait 3 months without causing more damage to my knee? I currently can’t bend my knee more than 90 degrees and it is also swelled. Please advise, thanks in advance.
I was 18 when I had the surgery but they had to remove the fragment and it is troubling me again. What should i do to keep my leg healthy.
Sir my self rohit yadav 26 yrsold last year i m lateral meniscus surgery now i can do workout in gym like leg workout. Its possible i m confused. My email [email protected] gmail.com

If joint space narrowing appear in both knees after wrong continuous twist then what maniscus is damaged and is it repairable?
Thank you doctor, this is the best explanation of this type of injure. I got to diagnose myself due to the quarantine. I think I got a left knee lateral tear. I have been doing some exercises I found on the web, and I have improve my mobility a lot, the only remaining symptom is a click, no pain most of the time, but still bother a lot.
I tore mine in slip and fall I gotta have knee and back surgery
I might have one. I’m 16 and I dance contemporary and ballet and I had this happen to me out of a jump. I can’t straighten my leg or put any weight on my leg. Is that a symptom? I’m getting a MRI but I just would like to know beforehand. Thx you for this video, very helpful
I have to do it again at what the ER doctor said so I hope my knee pain this time I will do therapy list to doctor just pray for my recovery
i find it hard to believe that over millions of years of evolution the human body has not figured out a way to handle such a common injury.
great stuff guys! Till this day I do not know how I tore my meniscus. Mine is not that bad as there is no locking but I still wanna get this looked at. Thanks awesome video.
6 months or longer?! holy shit ♂️ i think i have very small tear
Thank you so much. I felt a stiffness during cycling yesterday on my lateral knee but definitely no swelling or pain. I can extend my knee fully, and bend it fully too.. but i still got a wierd feeling laterally. Does any one have a thought?
I tore mine after my birthdayand just yesterday i got surgery
My dr recommended me going to the gym for quads. And a brace again. I had full knee surgery two years ago. I got reinjured. Im still walking on it.
I was at wrestling practice last week and my knee was twisted in an awkward position. Now I have severe pain in the interior side of my knee. Also my knee pops with every time I take a step. Should I see a doctor?
some bloody stupid questions here.. “can the meniscus get torn a second time ” FFS
I was lifting 40-50lbs on a regular basis for hours at a timemultiple times per week. I experienced a LOT of pain and for the last hour or 2 on my shift I would have to work through the pain. i have stopped working for a month now but still experience heavy knee pain and fatigue from just walking. I have trouble standing from a kneeling position as well. Meniscus problem?
I can run sprint and do everything just fine but when I bend my knee it feels like the bone below just pops out and it takes straightening the knee for it to pop back in, it’s been almost 5 months, not sure if I could return to wrestling
So, you trim out the piece that has become an issue……..now what? Does your body re-grow more Meniscus matter, or are you destined to have a knee implant of some artificial type of Meniscus padding?
Same here. I was walking back to the huddle and some guy came across the field and dove right at the side of my knee. I tore my lateral meniscus.. It tore in half into two separate pieces. I’ve had two major surgeries. I’ve been on crutches for pretty much 9 out of 12 months of the year. It’s a nightmare to go through.
Thank you for the info. My MRI was diagnosed with fracture of meniscus tear on the inner part of medial meniscus. (Horizontal, grade3) Having refrained from extreme activities, I don’t have daily symptom now after a year since injury but is surgery “ultimately” necessary for fractured meniscus to get back to heavy sports and prevent potential arthritis?
Exactly like she described it. After I heard my knee pop, it swelled after being challenged off the ball in a casual soccer game.
