this is just dumb. you can go on and off of keto. as long as you give your body the time to burn up all the sugar. i usually eat a normal carb meal once a week maybe twice. but i dont like how carbs make me feel, i cant do as many pull ups or push ups on carbs. and im hungry on carbs. keto is just a much better diet. at lest for me
I’m disgusted with the Mayo Clinic for putting this out. It’s tarnished my view of this institution. I don’t plan on ever changing my Keto lifestyle! I’m a mostly vegetarian, Keto diet, and intermittent fasting 47 year old who easily lost 30 pounds this summer. I didn’t even want to work out until a month into it. I find myself feeling so good, and with such great energy, that I look forward to going to the gym now. I feel better than I’ve ever felt! My insomnia is gone (since before I started working out), my anxiety is greatly reduced and manageable, my depression is gone, my snoring and sleep apnea is gone, and I’m enjoying amazing foods while also a whole new way of dressing myself. I’m eating more veggies than ever before and find my meals more delicious and satisfying than I ever imagined! My husband cured his high triglycerides and cholesterol with this (he’s a meat eating Keto person) and he’d been treated for years with meds, with no luck. We didn’t even eat as poorly as most mainstream Americans before but the typical diet was killing us slowly. I can’t wait to have my bloodwork done next month to see the difference this lifestyle has made for me. Keto is how many people have eaten, around the globe, for centuries. The Mayo Clinic is doing a disservice to people with this video. The only reason I’ve heard of people getting off Keto is the expense of fresh food and grass fed meats in America. I’ve lost my weight with fresh veggies and high protein alternatives to meat. It doesn’t have to break the bank. Keto is not Paleo. You aren’t supposed to consume huge amounts of meat on Keto anyway! Doing so just ups your glucose.
In 2018 the drug company Pfizer stopped spending BILLIONS on finding a way to remove amyloids from the brain because that’s NOT the problem when it comes to Alzheimer’s. Remember the old phrase, “you are what you est”? Well it’s true. The problem is to find which doctor has the best diet for YOU. What works for YOU is what is important. For example, for some people it’s a vegan diet or a Keto diet or the mediterranean diet. Do yourself a favor. Consult a nutritionist and a dietition and get a plan just for YOU.

Terribly explained. Your not on ketogenic diet, even if you claim to be. I can guarantee you unless you are eating heavy whipping cream (or something else with an extremely high fat content) with every meal your body is not getting enough fat to enter ketosis. You are losing weight by cutting processed foods, reducing calories intake, and eating more nutritious items. Kids with epilepsy will go on this diet to get their bodies off blood sugar and the meal plans are insane. Go look what a real medical ketogenic diet looks like. It’s great if you have lost weight following a similar meal plan, but your not losing weight for any other reason then what you should have already known (no processed foods ect)
Eating like the caveman ate is low carb, and Keto is like the Atkins diet, the caveman diet with more healthy choices. When you have metabolic resistance Keto, low carb is huge in helping you lose weight and feel good! Getting fat is easy for myself and low carb/ Keto/ caveman diets have helped me lose weight. Low-fat diets have actually given me low blood sugar and made me light-headed. I have to stay away from carbs, fructose and eat protein, fats and drink tons of water to be healthy. This might not work for you, but its what I need to do today for my health.
Please if you speak for a clinic inform yourself. Can’t believe it. After 34 years with asthma and daily symptom treatment i am an symptom free asthmatic. Just because a doctor wants to sell his book and makes a not addressed statement to catch people this should not be a clinic’s approach to health. So other posts from asthmatics that do not have asthma in ketosis or very low carb. I can just call out to the hard breathing people to try a very low carb diet for a week and see if it improves your condition and symptoms. I was almost out my mind. All the science and medication research on asthmatics and then such an easy fix for me, just no one knew about.
I lost 57 pounds on keto so far in about half a year. I occasionally eat other stuff, but always make healthy choices. Once you start eating healthy you realize how u healthy you felt before.

I’m on keto diet now
I used to to be gym freak 5 years ago. I was on around 10 % body fat. 2020 in quarantine I weighted 107kg and I’m 179 cm tall. That is obese. I’m doings keto for around 20 days now I weight 94 kg. My target is 87 85 kg, body fat around 15%. I sence I have a lot of muscle from my gym days. After that that, will be targeted keto. Not carbs, just some after a workout. That is the long term plan the doctor forgot to to mention. You can implement carbs just be smart with it.

I’ve struggled with diabetes for about 15 years. Though I lost most of my 67 pounds before on went on keto my blood sugars were still high. Eating bread, starchy foods made my blood sugar go up. I joined a gym and walked on average 5 miles a day. This helped a bit but not much. Personally I’m not big on fat or eating more meat than I usually did. I decided to take 1 year to figure this out for myself. I told my doctor I was taking responsibility for my own health. Medications and insulin though they helped for awhile my diabetes got worse. I was worried about going blind more than anything. It took me 9 months before I went on the keto diet. Dr. Jason Fung’s YouTube videos were amazingly helpful. I told my nurse practitioner that I would reverse my diabetes in 30 days and I did. When I went back for my 3 month check-up my A1C went from 13.6 to 6.1 (if your American multiply by 18). At worst I was prediabetic. I stopped taking my medications well before that as they were doing me more harm than good. I asked the nurse practitioner if in all the years she was at the clinic how many patients had reversed there diabetes she said only 1 (her father but he didn’t stay that way for long) He went back to bad eating habits.personally I would eat mud if it worked. To me the biggest lie by Diabetes Canada and other organizations is that the disease is progressive and cannot be reversed. So what hope do you give people. None. If you have no hope, then no wonder some patients give up in frustration. I want to make it clear there are many people who thrive on other diets. They didn’t work for me. I think the most important part of any approach to diet is to eat real food. Stay away as much as you can from processed foods. I am on a keto diet but I eat low carb salads and other veggies daily. I eat healthy fats like avacados, coconut and olive oil. I eat some fruit, mostly berries. I now love what i eat. I walk every day. My nuropthy is almost totally gone. I do have to get one cataract removed. If my journey inspires even one person, fantastic. Consult your doctor whatever approach you take. Seize the day!

I’ve lost 50 pounds over 6 months with blood test at start of keto diet and recently. All cholesterols and blood sugar showed drastic improvement. I ate “normal sized” meals but added MCT oil and cut all sugar and most carbs (can’t help it if some foods have some carbs. Target was 15 or less). Ate lots of green vegetables, fish along with all other meat categories. I’m feeling great and went from 7 items on my blood work out of range to one that was at the high limits. Wasn’t an easy diet to start (I am from south Louisiana) but became the new norm. When people ask how I lost all the pound I reply with….”I learned to make better food choices, that’s all”. It’s not for everyone, not a miracle diet, but it’s worth a try.

Am I the only one who finds keto way easier than other diets? Most food actually taste good and keep me full for hours. Also, if I’m ever craving any type of food (which doesn’t happen often since I started keto) i can just google a low carb recipe and cook it! It’s also easy to stay motivated because unlike the other times I tried dieting, keto doesn’t make me feel like crap. For once I have lots od energy and a clear mind! Agree that this video misses so much. It deomonizes not only Keto, but basically all other types of “diet”ary concepts. As with others, long term changes to eating habits takes time and there is no quick fix. You have to want it, research, and understand how ones own body works. No “diet” is a pill. In order to sustain, it has to be a comfortable part of ones own life. I have talked to so many people noticing my success and how I feel, but they are unwilling to want the same and only because of the high levell though in not having pasta…just cut it down. I gradually cut out at a comfortable pace. 8 months later and from 205 to 158….been 157-159 sustained for 4 months. I’m right where I want to be. I have created habits and I know when and how to adjust my intake. Also do intermittent fasting and enjoy doing it. Definitely a hogwash video with no substance.

It really is easer to live low(er) carb once you lose 30 lbs, clear up you skin problems, joint issues resolve, increase mussel tone without more exercise, drive you HDL way up, on and on. Sure I miss the occasional bread, cakes and such but if I binge even for a day or two I can feel it and that is enough of a motivation for me. To think it’s just OK to keep medicating people while watching obesity rates rocket upwards over the past 30 years is troubling.
Cured my diabetes, got rid of blood pressure meds. Worked really well. Keto is way to go.
