Me and a friend just decided to go, money wise how did you handle that? I just started researching so this may seem dumb but did you use american currency? is it all cash or can I use a card? If it’s not all cash how much should I bring for 2ish months?
So I went to India 3 years back and we went in the nice weather when it was 80°-90° daily and so where I live it was 14° and snowy since we went In February but anywho we didn’t bring a jacket because psh who needs em in that weather well we didn’t think until when we were flying back home and we saw snow on the ground and it was -14° yeah so even if you aren’t going somewhere that needs it bring it for an occasion like this
Cool channel, helpful interesting, good luck with your next Marathon, how many marathons & half marathons have you done? What’s your best times for marathon & half? I just subscribed to you, could you please subscribe to me?I have started uploading some running videos, mainly for, how to run train for a half marathon for forties & over, thanks
What do you need the headphones for? Everyone cant seem to go anywhere without constant music.
Planning my first backpacking trip to SEA trip for January this is exactly what I needed a no nonsense guide to packing
Awesome video! watched it 2x and ordered a ton of items mentioned in the video from your Amazon storefront. I will be starting my 5 month South East Asia backpack tour next month (mid Sept 2019). Starting in Bangkok, Thailand. Thanks for the tips!
Nice video guys. Traveling is awesome! We have been rving for nine years now. Recently downsized to a 21′ Roadtrek van so now life is even smaller. LOL Always learn something new. Thanks for sharing. Happy travels 😉
should you also bring Gatorade or water with you even if they have it at marathon?
This is the backpacking equivalent of Glamping. Warning to anyone watching this: This is NOT how you pack if you intend to travel backpacking-style.
If you have a phone then don’t worry about a clunky ipad. You can watch netflix etc on your phone too..
Hi Maury! What was that corn starch for? Great video! How do you carry your gels?
Great idea showing us exactly what you are bringing. Always helpful to see what others are doing.
Lip gloss. Deorant. Swimsuit, make up lot, umbrella. Hiking gear for millenials.
This was incredibly helpful! very specific and covers each detail thoroughly. Thank man! Feeling much safer for my trip!!!!
“Pumpwe” is another essential (just look it up on yt or google)
There is a large section of this trail through AZ that basically follows the powerlines, those aside its a beautiful view
Super helpful info. Keep it coming. Many of us don’t have a large local network of runners to get this kind of golden race info from. Hope the race was a success!
Enjoy Trip! You have inspired an old 230 pounder to get some Beacons. Now down to 220. Time for faster shoe ordered Mizuno wave riders…..seem like good choice for my weight.
I’m sorry I cannot walk around with a crushable fedora and swim trunks to work out in. I may need to travel and I may need to travel light but I will still travel fresh.
Do you like to journal by pen as opposed to on a table tor laptop? I type so much faster than I write, lol.
nice video, but please, check again how to say Merino wool… that was annoying to hear:D
your camera! gh5 right? where do you put it? in your bag?
Come for the gear but loved the run footage at the beginning!
Most of you enjoy these great videos for free. Why shouldn’t they make a little bit of money from product placement?
What about hydration? Do you carry water or just utilize the race water stops? Thanks.
The cacti in this video are so cool, would love to see that out on a hike
Get the NOMATIC! The backpack that I use here: https://www.nomatic.com/?utm_source=Youtube%20%26%20Instagram&utm_campaign=Alex%20Travelbum
And use the code Alexander15 for 15%
I believe it’s the best travel bag out there right now. Check it out
By chance are those Goodr sunnies that you’re sporting during the trail run you open the vlog with?
Flying overseas for the NYC marathon next month. This is gold.
Thanks! The more detail on the gear the better for us when we’re making our gear buying decisions:-)
IMO, this is an excellent video. I learned a lot about a few new items even though I have lived and backpacked in S.E. Asia for many years. One joke: Do not take the barking dog because Asia is a place where the people are friendlier than the dogs (i.e., this is my favorite saying about Thailand). Am sharing this video on to all of my friends on Facebook. Thank you, Alexander The Great Traveler!
QD Pay for TSA Prechek and always park on the top deck of the garage (harder to forget when it’s always the same floor)
I’ve been binging on steep life vlogs. I’m a mt biker that is slowly turning to trail running(gasp!) Cannot get that intro song out of my head. What is it??
Really like this video!!
We (as starting longdistance runners) can learn a lot of these type of videos.
Btw, very happy the videos are back!
Great video! when running (in first 3 mins of video) are you holding the camera or some mount? GoPro?
Still running with the Ambit 3 peak? In search for a good GPS watch now…..recommendations?
Hey Bros, thanks for sharing your minimalistic thoughts. I am a flight attendant and film student and made a video about packing less and less while conforming the airline rules. I am happy if you have a look https://youtu.be/BPodC_0AQI4
I just traveled yesterday from Mexico city to Amsterdam. On the security control before embarking they took all my energy gels away.
My recommendation:
never take them again on the hand bag.
You pretty well pack everything except one thing…. Your brain.
Great idea with the cup, do we have them in the US yet? Small compact “my hiking cup by Sea to Summit” collapses but too ridged for running
Hey Jam! Are you gonna post any footage from your Hong Kong 100k? @runsteepgethigh
So amazing to have you back doing the Steep Life episodes. It’s like seeing an old friend again after a long time. I know it’s a big task doing almost daily videos, but I really hope that you will have the time and energy to start doing them again on a regular basis. Good luck with your training and racing towards Barkley. I will be following along from Denmark.
I gotta say that burrito is pretty lame. Can’t you just put them in a small pocket…?
Hey, What’s the name of your photo specific carry on bag? I’m considering taking my camera. Thanks!
It seems like a Salomon product advertising…but tin tee shirt is from Salomon also?
Casually flashing your Magnum sized Love Gloves to 1.7 million people, i see what you guys did there.. Sweet move
I appreciate the video, super helpful! I am planning a big trip to Southeast Asia and other Asian places next year, and I need all the help I can get because I’m only 19 lmao. But props to you for these amazing videos. Keep it up brother:^)
Nice tips. I’d say it’s funny how well this correlated with backpacking ideology, but they’re essentially the same thing apart from the “environment” you’re in.
I may have missed this but whats the make of the camera bag please?
Now that your all Salomoned out we might have a hard time recognizing you minus the board shorts and wacky Target socks.
Do you prefer the BD Distance Carbon Z poles over the non-carbon (aluminum) Z poles? I hear the carbon ones tend to break. Any issues?
Thank you for your videos! Can you please answer my question: did you do any vaccination before you backpacking trip to Southeast Asia? I plan to go there in Octobre for a long time.
Great video as always Jamil. My first 100 miler next weekend so this is a good reminder of checklist for me!
Dude, those sunglasses looked sweet. What brand/model are they?
Don’t need most of the stuff u r carrying.hair dryer?so many shoes?
Love it! I watched your previous video and got the redwing 50. We leave in 3 weeks! 4 months of travel Just a little worried about the 7KG carry on rule from AirAsia:/ Any advice? Just worried bc I’ll have my camera in my bag
bringing condoms and being in a relationship is not a good idea lmfao. I’d rather let those people figure it out themselves than get in trouble with my girl
Hey cool trail in the beginning. I was wondering could you possibly show a video of how to build and maintain a trail?
Sex outside of marriage is fornication an is a sin, don’t promote sin!
Hi Maury! Thanks for the helpful video. Do you stuff your Gu gels in your belt while you run too?? Seems like a small pouch on the belt. Let me know please:-)
I would have been interested to see a list of links of some items you have shown like that flashlight that also works as a mini lantern, your tents, sleeping bags etc etc.
Clothing looks good….I wonder about all the gu, sugary foods and crap yo eat….in time you are set up for type 2 diabetes….check out this high fat ultra runner:
https://youtu.be/96VZFklUM_Q
More so than specific brands, the most general thing about clothing is just that cotton kind of sucks while travelling. Polyester mixes and wool dry in a fraction of the time, which matters if you get caught in the rain, land in a puddle, or need to dry the clothes after washing them in a bathtub, as ya do.
How come you have Slovenian flag patch on your backpack?:D
What brand is your collapsible cup? I want it. Best of luck at the race, mate!
I always enjoy your videos, JamJam. It was nice to see a, ‘gear’ video. The new trails look dope, too.
Hey Jamil, Did you mention what pack you use. I know I’ve seen you use a few different colored ones in your videos, but are they the same? Thanks JamJam, STEEPLIFE!!!
What the heck are those eyeshades? LOL Also, how in the world do you hang a nalgene on the seat in front of you? Where is there something to hook a carribeaner to on a seat?
I like those shorts/3 piece system. Do you have a coupon code for them? those jokers are expensive…
Loved the run and good insight into your ‘kit’. I’m so glad Steep Life is back! I’ve missed it. As always the music is right on. Thanks Jamil and crew!
1) donuts 2) “I like to eat real food..” = Subscribe also love you film your races
I’m so glad you are back. With old intro too! Good stuff. You got a fan base in Sweden. Keep the inspiration coming.:)
Daaaaaamn. That’s a LOT of stuff for backpacking and traveling.
How long are you going for?
I moved to the other state for work for 3 months and I had way less than that
Good luck anyways!
Great video. Have you found the global entry card worth it for you? Faster through airports? I would also suggest bug/mosquito repellent spray. Observation: your link to backpacks for the Kelty Redwing 50 seems to no longer have the comfort fit model you displayed and it just looked different hence I did not order it.
Platypus collapsible water bottles, Sawyer water filter, rain poncho, Garmin GPS if renting a car
I have a crazy tip about running and international flights with multiple stops. When transferring, if there is a long enough wait, you can still get a good exercise session in by looking for a quiet corner or by going to a wing of the airport that is not in use because the takeoffs are not soon and by doing a 5bx session (the exercises are old so you have to do them in a modern format). Because you work up a sweat you have to wash yourself down before the next flight. I said it was crazy. When I used to fly very very often, this routine kept me sane. So basically I an saying that sometimes you have to do something crazy to be sane…. who sang that?
3kg are actually quite heavy for a 2 person tent with such a small vestibule.
Hey!! So in 4 days I’m going on a school trip for 3 weeks in a third world country and we’ll be hiking and all sorts of other stuff! Your videos helped me out so so much so thank you!!! Xx
Oh my, you carry a lot more stuff than I do! Not really minimalist…
Keep em coming Jamil. You planning on racing in the UK anytime soon?
What is the name of the backgound music that starts at 7:02? They always use it on the food porn subcription on snapchat!
QD: for traveling, I personally love to take my R8 recovery roller. Maybe not as good as an actual roller, but you can use it while sitting down in the plane. Ok, each time I have done that I have been sitting next to my wife, so that helps. Also, it fits in your backpack.
I’m gonna do my first backpacking camping in a few days. Wish me luck. I’m so excited!
I currently have the Ambit 3 Run from Suunto and love it. Only thing is it has about 10-11 hours of best accuracy GPS settings. (1 sec gps fixes) I want to run a 100 miler and think I need about 24 hours of battery. The Ambit 3 Peak says it can do 24 hours on 5 sec accuracy which should be good enough. Would appreciate tips from Jamil or others that have the Peak on what to expect. The 1 min gps udate gives 100 hours on the ambit 3 run I have but that is way to rough for my liking..
I’ve been a flight attendant for 7 years and got 1200 flights under my belt. I have seen a lot of strange things, but I’m yet to see someone foam roll onboard
Lol i love this guy
He’s like yeah that’s my spoon
That’s everything
Your friend should play basketball with those extra long limbs!
so you cover boys and girls, what about the other 500 genders? i represent the attack helicopters, but there are many other genders out there
More great advice, thanks so much! Jamil, you mentioned in a video a while back when you were running a UTMB race that some guys didn’t know how to run downhill properly; how about some vids on running form/technique?
Oh boy, I do not have that big suitcase for a 3 weeks vacation
Therefore QOD: Travel light! Going just for a race some place, I only have my carry on baggage.
Have fun Seth
I just did 7 months in Se Asia. But i drove allover. No plain, train or buses. 23000 km. i was not dress warm enough so i had miserable time in Laos and didn’t go to north Vietnam because too rainy and cold. I don’t know where you sleept because rooms without AC are rare and if so, they will all have a fan. A mosquitoes net is essential and i always carry emergency gears for camping. i only used twice but if someone doesn’t need a shower every night and wants to travel really cheap, a hamac and a wind breaker will be useful because i notice there are many many abandon houses or shacks or shelters one can squat for a night for free along roads.. I don’t plan to ever go back. Once has been enough. But i m glad to have done it. Thail;and, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Cambodia again, Thailand again, Myanmar, and Thailand again.
Welp female has no idea what she’s talking about, nobody brings a shirt for every day of the week. To much clothes, plastic wear is garbage it breaks, no knife, idk what’s going on here
Make up really?! haha I strongly disagree with that item, but, you know, your back your choice 😉
Whats your itinerary looking like? when do you head out and what countries are you planning to visit
This is so helpful! Me and my best friend love hiking and camping but wanted to do both at the same time and didn’t know how to pack light enough for the two of us.
Going to south east Asia in 2 days! Thanks so much brother! You’re a life saver!
Packing List: His and Hers https://abroadfornow.wordpress.com/2019/02/20/packing-list-his-and-hers/
Just because you are using a backpack, it doesn’t mean that you are backpacking.
Guys, do you think I will be OK with this list if I am leaving on Monday for Colombia and doing 6 months all the way around South America and I will not be in Southern Argentina and other places that have opposite seasons as us until around May/June, so I am afraid that it will be super cold in the Andes, etc.
Thank you for 10.09…deodorant! some tourist forget about it! It´s not nice for local people.
Nice video. The main things you want to spend money are: your shoes, your pack and your sleeping system. As long as you are warm and don’t get hurt by your shoes or a bad pack you can keep going. I like to take a compressible or inflatable pillow as a luxury item (I sleep much better with it)
Military MRE are able to be found easy and purchased cheap and they ain’t half bad! Find them all over the states
Everyone is saying that Nadine packed too much, but you have to remember she is travelling to two different climates, one of which happens to be Patagonia. Patagonia weather is fairly unpredictable, I’d rather pack lots and be safe than not enough and be sorry. As well, there’s nothing wrong with bringing a hairdryer, it hardly takes up space and can help to control hair when drying.
You’re clearly not going backpacking. You don’t have fire asking tools, no shelter or shelter making tools. This is just a non luxury vacation with a shit ton of luxury items.
i have a little tip its the app maps.my it works off line and its free and it haves al the roads on it for walking
I plan to dehydrate my apples and bananas for snacks. Cook my meals the dehydrate it to preserve. Then when ready to eat it i’ll just pour hot water in it.
Thanks Jam Jam! Do you ever consider waterproof shoes for conditions like you describe? Gore-Tex or Altra Neo etc? I use Saucony Xodis GTX for sloppy/slushy/snowy.
Check out my minimalist list
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh1EqGrtCE4
really nice video. its one stop shop for amateurs to learn how to pack a backpack. thanks
Great video as always! Can’t wait for the 1st impressions on the Wave Rider 23’s!!!!!
great tip to hook up (try to) with a local running group to get updates on local trails excellent tip!
Please get a better multi tool that Chinese 2$ poor excuse for a multi tool is an insult for the whole fucking universe.
And please don’t call it a Swiss are you knife because it’s really fucking different.
Seth what do you do for work, you mentioned getting back from work the other day
For 4 months I have a 45 L gregory octal (4 outfits+sandals, hikers, day shoes) I can get more cloths on site if needed.. toiletries(no makeup), and first aid kit + electronics/journal.. and including my camera as a small side satchel, no day bag. Go for the experience not the items:)
Get a thermal shirt, it’s light, you can roll it up small, it reflects your body temperature and keeps you warm.
Good video. Very nice personality. I enjoyed the entire description of your backpacks content, advice and experiences. How much your backpack load weights including food and everything? Thank you so much for sharing in this video. God bless you.
What do you think the best shoe is for a track 10k? I was going to wear a spike, but I figured I might need some more cushion/support for that distance
I’m American only watched this for a future backpacking trip here in California to Yosemite or sequoia mountains or any trip in USA only?
Hi, just found your Chanel and finding it really helpful as I’m a new runner. My biggest problem is that no matter what I try I get a stitch if I drink whilst running. I was hoping to progress from a 10K to a half marathon and know that water would be essential, any suggestions? Thanks
Good to see you back and competing. Congrats again on the Salomon gig
Hey, I have really enjoyed watching your youtube channel. I know this video is from 2 years ago, but I was wondering which Salomon shoes you prefer now. I am transitioning to Salomon for distance running and I am looking for the best shoe for 50k or longer. It seems to me, that their shoes are so similar in fit and cushioning.
Are these back packs good for Carry-on when flying? I just bought a Farpoint 40 and not sure if I should upgrade to the 55 for general travel. I bought it to save money in luggage fees but unsure if I should buy a larger bag for longer stays.
A water proof shoes like Salomon Men’s Xa Pro 3D GTX a good. Or should you go with other shoes that aren’t Water proof.
In the UK we have thing called fell running it’s so hard-core what’s your guys thoughts
So much more helpful and practical than the female packing videos. Thank you!
How well does the BONATTI PRO WP JKT keep you dry in heavy rain? Last time I ran in moderate rain I used a Smartwool Merino Sport Ultra Light Hoodie and my jacket underneath still got soaked.
Where do you store the BONATTI PRO WP JKT? Do you keep it folded up into its own pocket or do you stuff it into one of the other pockets in your vest/pack for easier access while you are running? Which pocket?

You are mis pronouncing the shit out of merino! It’s not “Meriano.”
Great video otherwise.
All flight in SE Asia have a carry-on limit of 7kg, but the baggage fees are not as exorbitant as those in N. America. A one-bag carry-on travel bag is not going to work over here. I know because I make over 20 flights per year around this region
Interesting what a girl packs as opposed to a guy. That wasn’t meant the way it sounds. I can relate to some form of calming influence, whether tea, meditation, etc. I always get keyed up before a race and I’ve been racing for 30 years. Two things I would add to your list are some form of topical Lidocane for sore muscles, and something for blisters. Your multi-port USB charger is nice, but for those who don’t have one, most flat screen TVs have several. Enjoy!
Ahaha guy has no space for more than 3 pairs of underware..but has room for a usb powered fan..really
“When you are doing a backpacking trip you have to kind of plan on where you are going and plan accordingly”…
Yeah no shit
I think mentioning weight restrictions on flights in SE Asia and Australia is worthwhile. I see Americans pouting like children at the airport on every trip when their bag gets weighed and they are told they must check it. 7kg MAX weight is strictly enforced.
You guys forgot the most important, where is the condoms
Tell @DanBell to add some content to his page. I’d love to see more of his videos as well as yours.
Took a trip to Cali the other day and had my Hoka Slides and Compression socks on walking through the airport folks looked at me like I was crazy. IDGAF about looks at this point. Good vid bro
Love this video! We’ve also recently launched running alarms at noizeenoizee.com
Nobody…I mean like NOBODY ever asks other people for condoms. You guys are dumb.
interesting way of packing:D your bag/backpack is amazing! I do it a bit different, but in all I take pretty much the same things, but f.e. not a water purifier, normally you can fill up your own bottle at almost any place. But I even had the fan, because my old Laptop heated up like crazy. you can buy one f.e. in Hanoi for 5 $, so no need to bring it to Asia. sink stopper! never heard about this before! must have. I used the dustbin sometimes to do small laundry. Did I miss it or did you forget a torch? and may be you take some Aspirin (ASS) and Ibuprofen, in Asia in many countries is only Paracetamol (Panadol) available, and that is not good for every case of pain. Diclofenac could also be useful as pill or as gel if you have some accident. but don’t carry around half of a pharmacy. most things you can buy everywhere. very good, your packing list!
nice video!!
Come to my channel. You can enjoy the wonderful scenery of Korea.
Here’s mine Alex! Thanks for some good advice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh1EqGrtCE4
Allergic to feather, peanuts and you have asthma? If you can backpack, so can I!! Great video guy’s x
I just bought my first backpack (65 litres) and I am planning on going backpacking soon. This video was really helpful. Thanks guys! Also, my sleeping bag is so huge, I need to get a more compact one. Do you guys have any ideas?
Good video minus the underwear thing. That’s a little nasty dude.. Sure they are odor resistant and maybe bacteria resistant, but you can’t get away from that ball sweat over there… Poor ladies if you hooked up with any during your travels.
“Girls, we won’t mention make-up because it’s not 100% necessary, sorry bout that” but absolutely no mention of women’s toiletries that ARE 100% necessary.
I like to take some thin nylon rope to use for drying my clothes since it takes up no room
QOD: top tip, don’t forget your trainers……I’ve done that before!!
Thanks so much for these packing videos man, they are super helpful and will save people finding out they are missing things on their travels, myself included!!!
is that nomatic bag used as a carryon? some airline only allow 11 pounds or less how do you bypass that?
So essentially:
-backpack with good straps, have a waterproof cover for it
SLEEPING GEAR
-lightweight, waterproof tent
-sleeping mat
-sleeping bag rated for extremely cold weather
FOOD
-gas powered stove top, REMEMBER LIGHTER
-Cooking pot with a metal lid
-bowl, cup, utensils
-warm breakfast food
-snack bars for lunch
-Trail mix, dried fruits and nuts
-MREs or dehydrated food that you add water to cook for dinner
-Water purifying tablets, or life straw water bottle
-Water pack
CLOTHING
-Hiking boots, BREAK THEM IN -BEFORE THE TRIP
-Lots of socks, probably 1 pair for every day +1-2 extra
-Thermal undergarments
-Underwear, bottoms should probably have a pair for each day cuz we don’t need y’all getting swamp ass out here
-shorts/comfy pants depending on weather
-(females only) Sports bras (probably like 2-3 for a week of camping)
-T-shirts

I think you guys just saved my life. I COMPLETELY forgot about my passport. Thank you!
Love your videos Jamil. Is the vest a salomon s-lab sense ultra 8?
Cool video! Which gears are you using to make videos like this? By the way, if you like traveling blogs, check out my newly made channel, I will appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

Bro, you need to visit the Philippines in December, because we know how to celebrate Christmas season.
Thanks for this, man! Very informative. I know you didn’t mean to make it a Solomon commercial, but I think I’m gonna start looking them up!
P.s. what kind of shoes do you usually run trails in?
Man you are the best packer as you are really minimiliastic ✌️✌️
Typically the credit card companies already know when/where you are traveling due to their algorithms. Even the company whose card you didn’t use to book the airline/hotel tickets will know for this same reason. Call them anyway for peace of mind, but mostly-call your BANK FOR YOUR ATM card to continue working. Don’t leave your atm card at home because even if you bring a set amount of money, you WILL need more. We ran into this problem in Rome and tried using our credit card in an atm for a cash advance and we got locked out because we didn’t have a 4-digit security code set up. So do that, too.
Sacks for women? She has wider shoulders and more muscles than the dude. lol
I’d recommend snake bite kit, first aid kit, extra lighters, flint, matches, and an emergency phone that texts through radio waves for emergency purposes
I love these videos! Where’d you go Mari? You’re videos are great, get lots of views, lots of subs! Hope all us well. Sending you best wishes.
Awesome video!
What camera are you using for VLOGing these days Jamil?
Compression sleeves!!! A must on a plane before and after a race, and even when not racing.
One of the first! I have your notifications on. I’m leaving on August 28th to go to Thailand. Perhaps we can make YouTube videos and meet up on the road!
Love the channel and all the information you’re dropping!
Having lived in central AZ about forty-five years ago, I enjoy seeing the open desert country. Thanks.
Great vid. Had to give a thumbs up. It would have been good to show how to pack in all items in bag.
How much did the trip cost over how many months?! Planning on going soon!
More like. He doesnt want his feet to be fucked by being wet. But doesnt mind smelling.
Hey I’m just buying all of the items I need for my solo backpacking trip to Europe for 3 months once I’m 18. So excited! Thanks for all your videos!
Some runners are like I need a keto non gmo organic grass feed bulletproof breakfast, some are like just a bowl of fruit and kale and others are like donuts and cookies for breakfast!! I love it. Great videos!!!
Love the of the requirement to carry a collapsable cup at a trail event yesterday in Ireland and easily a couple hundred plastic cups used/wasted. I’ll start to promote this idea here!
As much as I love traveling light I think one pare of shorts isn’t enough
Spikes are no stress! Been using 18mm at the most, and never been a hickup
love your stuff, leaving for SEA later this year and you make me even more excited:D
When you said lighter I brought a whole pack just yo be useful
Wait, why do you have an Slovenian badge on your backpack, i need to know!:D
I have the same pack as you, Nadine! I love how mine has a daypack, too! We’ve got all new and lightest gear, but had to postpone our trips since Nov 2018, because I fell down a whole flight of stairs in the dark and rolled end over end the last 5 steps, hitting my neck on the edge of each stair…thought id broke it, but finally got mri last week May 2019) and have severe muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders. I can’t wait to heal so I can use our new gear. My hubby has the Osprey 85 and we also each have bear boxes for the mtns, where we usually camp, but we hate that they take up so much room. Happy hiking!
Seth, we miss the nice piano music you used to put in the end of each video and also the small clip of you running at night. would be great if you added them back, for me at least they were a nice ending to wrap up everything.
btw congratulations on 1st place today, saw your Instagram story.
Would love to interview you for our new podcast, http://www.runningdrummer.com.. Let me know how to go about that or if you have the time. Thanks [email protected] gmail.com
Have a great race Seth! Have never flown to a race so can’t comment on that but crossed the border from Manitoba to Fargo, ND at a small crossing this past May on way to Fargo Marathon. Had my big blue foam roller along and border guard looked at us a bit funny so had to explain what that was. It was all good though. Friendliest border crossing ever!
Is that music? That f.. noise is so annoying. Great gear tho!
my favorite tip was to take a picture of the parking spot. I lose my car at the local mall.
I think she is trolling us. This must be some kind of joke/parody or something. This can’t be real.
A minimalist/3-1-1 “hack” is to make toothpaste dots. Put down a pea-sized dab of toothpaste and let it dry. After that you can put them in a snack sized ziplock and it will not count as a liquid. When you’re ready, wet your brush wet the dot, put it on your brush get down to business.
If you like painting/sketching, take a few pieces of good paper, cut them in half, fold them again depending on the size you want, then either stitch or staple them together with a piece of Manila folder as a cover. The flat style of toothbrush travel container will hold six pencils, or grab a water brush and either a travel size watercolor palette or make one using tubed watercolor paint. Take a piece of that good paper, fold it like a greeting card then on the inside put dots of paint spaced out (just like the toothpaste) and let it dry. When It’s completely dry put it inside the book you made and you’re off.
All these complaints about “how expensive” these items are were written in the back of coach in a middle seat… Calm down people.
Where can you go in the Denver area to try on running vests? None of the “running” stores seem to carry any stock. Super frustrating. Congratulations on your 1st place today!!
What a fantastic vid!Do you feel interested in testing our microphone? That is a kind of microphones which is suitable for travelers.:)
My travel tips? Taking Airborne for a week before an event if I’m flying. Getting sick before the start, not good! Bringing a battery operated alarm clock to coincide with my watch alarm and hotel clock(if there is one available).
Starting off by discussing how condoms are essential for a traveler? With strange partners? Yeah great way to exhibit American (im)morality. And yeah.. that’s your priority when traveling? A couple Jerks
Loved the gear covering section. I’ve been looking for a good new pair of compression shorts and now I know what to buy:-)
Seth for flights you gotta get a Hypervolt massage gun. It’s quiet and a must on flights for runners. Gotta have it sitting on top of your carry on bag when you go thru security so they don’t freak out. It’s not cheap but worth it. Hyperice.com
those ski gloves probably didn’t breathe well. how were your hands on this?
Mad respect for starting out with condoms. Keep yourselves safe above all other concerns.
Hi and thanks for your video..lots of really helpful tips. I’m going to use your advice on the check bag. Going to my first marathon in Chicago this weekend. My husband says not to check in a bag since our hotel is very close to the finish line. After watching your video I would really love to have a towel, jacket and dry hat available. So I’ll prob do so thanks again!
Just watch out for the total weight of carry-on packs. Some carriers in SE Asia, just like Australia and New Zealand, have 7kg carry on limits, and they will weigh your pack. Consider the weight of your bag, the weight of your stuff there’s a reason why Alexander packs so minimally.
What a shit review. I’ve been travelling SE Asia for four years and not once have I ever needed a fan or a sink stopper all rooms/dorms come with either air con or very large fan. Your suggested shitty little fan just adds weight to your checked or carry-on luggage. Even your dog knows you’re talking shit, which is why he/she barks whilst you prattle your nonsense. Who gives a fuck about what bag you think is best!! Here are my essentials: 4 pairs of shorts (attire and water sports combo; 8 t-shirts, a pair of beach plimsolls (so you can jog on beach or walk on boats whilst diving/snorkalling they’re very light), Also a good pair of flip-flops, and most importantly, you’ll need mosquito repellent available from 7-11 all over SE Asia. Also, should you be bitten by a Mosquito, which is bloody itchy, get some balm also available from 7-11. Actually, Alexander, you inspire me to write a proper review. Most importantly DO NOT TRAVEL WITHOUT INSURANCE WITH THIS VIRUS ABOUT!! That will save you thousands of quid. I think I’ll create a review with all the essentials.
QD: Rather for trail runners always check whether you can take your foldable poles in carry-on or not!
Never had issue with gels being taken by security, I just remember to put them outside like a toothpaste/liquids and had to explain what it is several times.
a COMPASS!! how can you go out without a compass?
from British Columbia Canada and we have a name for people who go out hiking without a compass. LOST! but that’s Ok search and rescue usually find them. not always alive. and eventually someone might find the skeleton but kind of rare for that to happen. you will walk in a gradual turn to the left or right.
a hatchet a knife a folding shovel rope small 10×10 tarp a candle.
up here we also carry a rifle and a fishing rod. anti gun nuts usually carry bear spray or bear banger’s. techno guys carry personal locator beacons that hook up to the satellite system pretty good idea to have.
Hello there!!! What bag do you use for your filming gears? I bring my drone, DSLR and go pro with me all the time, with the tripod and go pro dome lol it’s a lot!
Great video Seth! It’s always fun to hear others tips/ideas. One flying tip I have is to sit in an aisle seat so it’s easy to get up and move around during the flight so you can stretch your legs. That way you don’t have to crawl over people. Btw I love travel running and I even wrote a book all about travel running tips. If you’re interested, I can send you a copy! https://www.amazon.com/Runners-Guide-Travel-Running-While-ebook/dp/B01GLININU
::wakes up on international flight; sees guy foam rolling in plane aisle; presses flight attendant call button::
Good luck Seth! I notice that you don’t mention your “unmentionables” ever. Am curious if you have a favorite brand of underwear for runners though. Maybe you could post or do a VLOG on that topic. I think you could do it without being too graphic.
Nadine from where you bought those cube bags and other bags also?
Thank you so much for this video! I’m going on a road trip in Scotland and we’re going to do camping so I’m really excited
Check out how i have packed for a short thailand trip!

The train in Denver to the airport is super easy and convenient if you don’t want to pay for parking. We always Lyft to the train station and then take the train to the airport.

Once again,very informative video.
I backpacked with a guy who brought bananas, but packed them outside his pack. I like to bring boiled eggs for breakfast. Most cooked items will last 3 to 4 days in cool to cold weather. Best thing to do is experiment at home, like single serving spam, salmon, quick cook items such as pasta. Your meal is limited to your imagination and weight you can carry. In bear country I don’t bring smelly things such as spam, sardines, or salmon; unless you want to bait a bear.
Another amazing video Seth these vlogs make my day just that bit better
Thanks for the video, you inspired me to start my channel, subscribe to my youtube channel for tips on what you need to know before taking a family vacation.Thank you
Lmfao! “Even if your in a relationship bring condoms, someone is always asking for them”
Ya that’ll go over well when your girlfriend finds them in your bag lol
The portable fan has got me contemplating! I went without one last time and I remember being fine with it, but that could be a nice luxury to have.:O
QD: Learn how to ranger roll clothes for the race. Ranger rolling is the most effective way to pack clothes in the smallest places. There are many videos on YouTube on how to ranger roll everything including tshirts, jackets, socks, and shorts
Please come back. Your videos have been so helpful in preparation of my first marathon, they’re great!
Great video, but is not that difficult to pack for a triathlon. Only longer. You should try once to do a triathlon, really funny.
Oh, and I also LOVE my Stance socks! My son wore a pair for his homecoming dance
Vitamin B1 helps with mosquitoes and watch out with vitamin b6, if you got to much voor a long time you could get problems with you body.
Thanks for the timely tips. Running first ultra this weekend (Everglades Ultra 50k) and have been stressing what to put in vest, and drop bags. Sunny and hot forecast (Damn!) has taken a bit of uncertainty out of the process. Please keep up these “How to” videos, they are very informative.
great video my biggest one is the same as yours use Carry on for critical gear one issue though if you are doing mountain races with poles you cant bring them in your carry on worried me on the last big race I did but they got there safe and sound
If they ever make a live movie of el dorado they need to cast these guys!
Absolutely love this! This makes me want to book my next trip asap. Definitely going to subscribe. We just started a couples travel vlog so this is motivation! Check us out! We’re a smaller channel but hoping to grow and support other channels with travel inspo like this one!❤️
I’m supposed to be going camping in a about a month or two from now. We are waiting for the end of August. We are going to Mineral Wells State Park in Texas.
You mention Google Maps but if you’re travelling in a country whose language you don’t speak fluently, Google Translate is a godsend. You can download language packs to use offline and call it up anytime for quick translations. I always like Duolingoing a language for a few weeks or months before departure too, but obviously that’s a lot more work and only gets you so far.
lots of gold nuggets in this video. I havent went backpacking yet, this makes me excited!
nice! have you tried the Kahtoola NanoSpikes? most of us Colorado runners use them more than the MicroSpikes. they are lighter and less abrasive on your shoes/feet than the Micro’s…plenty of traction, however. check ’em out sometime! Dharma Blessings from the high San Juans and kill it in Utah!
Seth, you shouldn’t wear compression calf sleeves on flights. Particularly long haul flights. Wear the full sock sleeve. Your feet swell and the calf ones limit the circulation. I’ve worn the full sock ones one several long haul fights and their great. Good luck in Utah!
For the multi plug its also verry important to know, that in some countrys there are different currents (in us about 110v, in Europe 230v) and not all products will work with it or even get broken when u try it!
Hey Nadine!!!
I would like to know the brand of that daypack. Could you tell me, please???
Nice video!!!
Thanks for showing what you bring. Very helpful for an upcoming Ultra for me
I don’t think I’ve ever gone on a trip with anything bigger then my 45L bag with 15lbs fully loaded. Girl what you doing? Bringing two towels? A full bag of detergent?
fun fact…it’s easier for your body to actually process cold food than warm food…especially when it comes to complex carbs such as oats:)
Whoa! The first person I’ve heard is allergic to feathers too. I thought I was the only one, my genetics are from Scott land England border like this guy.
Apex Clima shield is a savior but soooo bulky
Thanks for this man! I’m running my first ultra in October this year. It’s the shawnee 50 mile and I’m super excited and nervous about it. Seeing your gear really helps me plan for mine. Thanks again!
Don’t forget to click SUBSCRIBE (& the bell) for new travel advice and adventures! And add me on Instagram instagram.com/heynadine for all my travel photos!
Yes….this video is amazing! I am going to watch this video each time I pack for international travel from now on!! #travelpacking
Wow your bag can hold so much!!! I like you packing video it show the amount of stuff you can pack. Great job.
Happy Easter, can you please come back soon, we miss you and your fantastic knowledge
BTW The only other thing that I’d recommend making sure that you take with you on a journey is 2 pens. Keep on on your person at all time,s and pack the other away in a ziplock bag for an emergency. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten a pen which created real problems when trying to fill out customs forms at the end of a long flight. Hope this helps someone:-)
Hey gents, you forgot to mention the cellphone should be SIM UNLOCKED. For phones nowadays that means you can just purchase a sim card in the destination country and avoid the roaming charges and have cellphone service for dirt cheap. I had a 1 month plan in Australia for $10 last time and could use it because my phone is unlocked. Saved a ton of money there that way.
6:57 My mind went directly to Sephen and Damon. HELLO vampire diaries.
So many salty ppl. It is not ”on a budget” video. If you have a hobby you spend alot of time with its resonable to buy some expensive and good stuff.
According to the FAA report, over 80 percent of travelers, travel with some sort of laptop or tablet. Checkout Instagram.com/osterempress for the revolutionary aluminum carry-on bag
I’ve not travelled overseas to race yet. I am intrigued about running gels. Is there any issue with carry on / quantity?
My lightweight backpack weights less than your powerbank. Your metal torch is for SWAT or an old lady i guess. Im not dislikinganyone learns by pain.
that looks really uncomfortable carry those bags going through a busy airport i dont think she will make it to the gate.
Travel tip: pick an isle seat next to an empty middle seatyou might get lucky and have an empty seat next to you for the flight.
Would a Male with narrower shoulders and short torso be better off with a female pack? I’m 5’6″ my shoulder width about 17″ wide
As a kiwi, hearing her mis-pronounce merino constantly triggers me a tad. I appreciated the explanations of her choices though
This is the best thing I’ve seen on this subject. I’m planning to spend a year there traveling, and it never occurred to me that I should bring a jacket. I can’t stand cold temperatures, especially air conditioning. Appreciate the advice.
What brand is the main backpack from? It looks better than the one I bought not long time ago from deuter. U can fit in alot in yours and what size and brand is your tripod? It looks pretty smal and I like that
Hey guys!
We are all so excited for the summer. If you started to get your summer essentials, Hencely beach towels will be your saviour. They are lightweight, quickdrying and long lasting. So just a one is fairly enough.
Check us out at https://hencely.com/ if you are interested!
Hope to see you guys there! <3
The girls reminds me Dido, the singer..
And the boys reminds me Leroy Dane, the footballer..
HELLO… I thing the mosquito repellent is a very important as a sun cream too. Good information guys.
Congratulations Seth, already know about the race, so i can’t wait for tomorrows video.
Thanks for the tips bro! When are you heading back to Asia? I will be there from September to May!
This deserves way more attention, truly a masterpiece. Keep up with the good work and lets make hiking great again
“Selfies”, “Binge watching a tv series on the plane”, “Noise canceling BEATS”… god.
Great to see the videos back in play, Jamil! They always inspire me to get out to the trails. I really like my Sense Rides, but could use a more robust rock plate. They’re the first pair of Salamons that have the forefoot room I like. How do the Ultra Pros compare in width?
Thanks for posting this! Now I have an idea of something that I could pack and use for my first marathon!:)
Also bring an ATM card? Wow… who knew that you would need one to draw currency?
3:35 If your headphones are Bluetooth headphones, there will not be a slot for a cord so not sure what you are saying there….
Thank you for the great advice, as well as the Kelly reference
Can I fly internationally with my Katadyn pocket model filter in my carry on?
Travelled to xc races with 15mm spikes in and never had a problem, always had them in hand luggage
Really like the videos of you and others running. Also your videos of races where you follow runners. Miller vs Hawks was epic! Basically your camera going up and down mountains.
Handsome guys like you need condoms. People like me need earplugs and an eye mask.
damn that’s a lot of shit no way I can travel light with all of that.
You put the link to a banana holder and your expensive camera and a backpack you don’t even have, but you’re not putting things like this fan or the towel? OK makes sense because you earns less money
Guys, i’m killing myself over here. WHAT SONG IS ON THE VID? fucking love it @ 2:23 and no, not with those annoying rap lyrics from g curtis.
See, this I can get on board with I refuse to watch any more videos where they won’t shut up about ‘minimalism’ I want to travel, I want packing tips, I also want to feel good and not be lectured about the fact that I refuse to bring literally 1 pair of underwear and no makeup! Loved this video!
Wow, you’re backing loads:D Great tips. Here’s how I’m packing for a backpacking adventure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bck9JFtojDo
The long pants are good for visiting temples! A long skirt is a good alternative for women.
excellent and comprehensive backpack tutorial. I am going to peru for a month and this helped immensely.
You guys are great but Mnimalists? Even in the winter I pack less bulk. And alot of those fancy things can be replaced with less bulky stuff like plain old ziplock bags, and items from the dollar store or the thrift store.
this is the least minimalistic backpacking set I have seen online to date. This video misses the point of backpacking, please reflect
Kelty to Motherlode to Nomatic. Interesting evolution. But what happened to the Hawaiian shirts? Not so sure about the fan. It seems a bit too much. Definitely agree about sunscreen being overly expensive. Not a water person so prefer a decent camera. I like snacks since sinxe airport food is poor. I love having a kindle just incase the entertainment system fails.
Thanks this was super helpful! I’m planning on backpacking soon, and this video pointed out some things to bring!
Watched your og vid of how to pack for SE Asia a while back even got the redwing 50, your content really inspired me im currently In Thailand gonna be over in seasia for 3 months.
I highly recommend Vitamin C. I take my normal dosage of 2000IUs/day, and then pack anywhere from 1000-3000IUs extra for a few days before going back home, as well as increasing the dosage by atleast 1000IUs for about a week before I get on the plane. Vitamin C is highly effective to ward off colds, flus, etc. It is nontoxic as whatever your body doesn’t need, it excretes. Vitamin C is antimicrobial, antifungal, and just all around great for keeping you health.
Maury, if I could make a suggestion, you might try taking Melatonin 2 nights before the race instead of Ibuprofen PM, no need to take Ibuprofen if no muscle involvement and you are just needing rest. Melatonin works much better and is a natural alternative. God Bless.:-)
For the vitamin pills do you need to inform the airline about it before the flight? Or just bring it and tell them its vitamin?
Nice video guys!
Just a heads-up from a New Zealander:-) You are saying “Merry-AH-no” wool … it is actually pronounced “Ma-REE-no” wool. (Merino wool). And you’re right, its great stuff. Good video:-) Have fun on your travels.
the aspect of minimalism that i enjoy is purchasing (sometimes) expensive items that LAST a year or more!!!!!
Marko speaks hindi
I am soo happy by hearing it baksheesh
1. SeaToSummit XL UltraLight FastDry Travel Towel. It works as a neck warmer.
2. Mini Soap Bars
3. Universal Power Charger and Cables
4. A batik sarong (connected and sewn)… it is multipurpose….use it for anything.
5. Windproof UV Jacket
6. Good quality U shaped inflatable neck pillow
Awesome! Would like to see how those items performed for you and which you ended up using!
Dude, I’m allergic to nuts… and have asthma. I’ve never used my pen. WERE LIKE FAMILY lol
http://www.premieroutlook.co.in/important-things-to-keep-in-mind-before-going-on-a-trip/
In march I’m going to Kalahari with my friends for 2 days (when I’m making this comment I haven’t watched the entire video yet) and her mom is going to pick us up from school, how can I pack all my stuff in a school backpack without it being too noticeable?
Tip: drink water, drink water, drink water… and undo your laces top to bottom. Air is very dry and your feet will swell. Then earplugs or noise cancelling headset… peace!
I would recommend replacing the flip-flops with slides or light weight sandals because you can wear them with socks to keep your feet warm on chilly mornings or evenings indoors.
As a fellow human being obsessed with being organised, I salute you.
Hey Maury do you always keep same blanket from last marathon you ran? I pack some shorts, pants, and water with energy gel.
I love that there is no fragile masculinity in this video! They know they need lip balm and they’re not afraid to say so. The way guys should be!
Wow!
I usually travel with 50L (for 1 month or more with also hiking stuff) and put everything in there. Sometimes I bring a purse to put my passport or so.
Best regards!
I do everything in my power to get an aisle seat so I can stretch my legs and walk around often without having to be a total pain to the people next to me.
Trail mix. People use chocolate chips made for baking cookies. They won’t melt.
Continue with what are you doing, you are doing good, you are cool and professional, you have my like for your work
Looking for recommendations on Salomon shoes for Western States, which two pairs of shoes would you recommend I try specifically for that race?
The Corona era will include: face mask, face shield, head scarves and liquid mascara. Best to travel as a transgender muslim backpacker.Wearing head scarves and under which a gas mask or a surgical mask.
What a multi tool with a knife? Tf? What do you tell the TSA??
dude you need to get real food in your system, doing ultra is already really stressful for the body, the donuts are really unnecessary, there is nothing more inflammatory than processed food with refined oils, sugars, additives, preservatives, and probably dairy!
you need WHOLE FOODS like porridge with berries and banana, etc, you will feel so much better and will be able to run faster and for long period of time and you will improve recovery,
peace and plants brother
I’m thinking about backpacking and looking to learn. That looks like an aweful lot of unnecessary stuff. I notice there is no tent, sleeping bag, mat, cooking stove. Yoiu are extremely organized though.
