So can you use those beans after? Are they OK to soak and cook after being baked? Thanks for the recipe xxx
I’ve always asked for a lemon meringue pie, but I’m now vegan and not sure how to make it
I was dying when u picked up ur piece of pie w/o using a fork, I did that and my mom always yelled at me every time
Caitlin your pie looks delicious we really enjoyed your video my favorite pie is Cherry and of course being Italian tiramisu
I have 10 lb of frozen blueberries in my freezer right now. My plan is to make two pies this weekend, using your videos as a guide. I have to admit, pie crust really intimidates me oh, but I’m going to give it a shot. Thank you for sharing your time and skills they are much appreciated!
Yo I totally get it I was raised vegetarian as well and I always asked for chocolate chess pie on my birthday instead of cake!! Maybe you should make a vegan alternative of that so I can relive my childhood birthdays…
I’m feeling the need to point out how nice that rolling pin is
I adore the colour you wear.dessert..no comments..niyam niyam ))))
you are a party saver:) thank you so much for an easy and delicious recipe:)
Absolutely love to add some chopped basil to the blueberries
My favourite desert growing up was the traditional Polish apple pie, my grandma used to bake this and her cheesecake every other week, I kind of miss it not gonna lie I probably should veganise it someday. My other favourite food of all time was always the traditional chicken broth that we used to have almost every sunday.
I never seem to have corn starch in my kitchen are there Anya replacements?
Btw I love you videos and your recipes always turn out delicious:)
I love how realistic Preppy Kitchen is, he really takes us along the journey of baking, mistakes and all. Such a great channel.
Caitlin thank you so much for making this recipe! I’ve been meaning to create a gf vegan blueberry pie recipe for my husband. Now I can just use yours! I know it will be awesome!!!
Thuper!:) I am BINGEING your vids during quarantine!! I simply ADORE you and your recipes. I love that you include little real-life/blooper type moments.
This looks sooo good! Blueberry pie is one of my childhood faves too, but we just made the crust from 1 part meltet butter, 1 part sugar and 2 parts flour. I just subbed vegan margarine, and now it’s vegan:D
Ooh this looks good! I think I’ll try this with a mixed berry filling! I love pumpkin pie! I always make my own so it’s dairy free, but I’m thinking about switching out the brown sugar with coconut sugar to make it healthy! Hopefully it turns out alright! One of the things I really loved was those cute little tarts with the fruit on top! Can you veganize that and make it healthy?:)
11:30 takes first bite with bare hand. “He’s too dangerous to be left alive”
In the video you are adding one egg to the crust but there is no egg in the written recipe. I am confused. Should I add it or not?
I love how you cook without vegan butters or oils. Thank you for developing recipes for those of us who are whole foods plant based no oil!
I have always asked for blueberry pie for my birthday too. It’s just so much better than birthday cake.
Love your recipes and your personality! You are a hilarious genius ❤
I’ve watched so many of his vids since quarantine and I think we need to start memes of John throwing flour and pushing his dishes too far so they fall off his counters
thanks i never had a blueberry pie at all… well we have something similar i had years ago when i was not vegan with raspberry jam and hazelnuts in the dough… but not blueberry unfortunate… i like many fruits i would probably put 3 or 4 different fruits in (mango, strawberry, raspberry and blueberries for example)
Is this dough recipe just for sweet pies. Could I not use this for a vegetable pie?
I love you!! Your pie crust recipe has helped me sooo much
Love your tutorials, thanks so much! What rolling pin do you use?
Haha! My brother has always requested birthday pie instead of cake for the last 58 years! He teases my daughter and I about being veggie/vegan but this pie may change his mind.
I need your cookbook, you made fall back into love with baking again
Turned out awesome… I made a few changes like added a splash of cinnamon and nutmeg… I didn’t have lemon zest but I did put lemon juice. I was very excited to see it wasn’t watery like the first time I made with a different recipe!! Thank you!
Hey Johnthe written recipe on your website does not have the 2 tbsp of butter grated on top of the blueberries. How come?
Yum! The pie looks awesome!
Zorro doesn’t look impressed tho 😉
Can i sub the tapioca flour for something else? I can’t find it in my grocery stores:/
I wonder how it would work with wild blueberries (which is what we have here). I am always shocked whenever I see your humongous American blueberries:))
I’m going to do this pie for Easter but instead of blueberry I’ll use huckleberries.
I loooove blueberry pie. My stepmom makes this blueberry pie that has goat cheese, almonds, and basil in it! sounds a bit strange but I used to love it so much and this inspired me to make a vegan version lol
why bake it with a weight on the pie crust?:) I never had a pie with the criss cross on top but always wanted to make it! Yummmmm
Yumm!!!! I don’t remember the last time I had pie let alone blueberry!! I am such a choco fiend I also just go for cake for brownies hehe. You made this look so easy and good I need to try it out!
What is the purpose of the “pie weights” / beans that you used when you prebaked the crust? Why can’t you just bake it as is?
I was looking for a good pie recipe for Easter, I’m totally making this!
This pie looks so good! And it’s so healthy and delicious! Thank you for sharing and for being such an inspiration!
I don’t really have favorite recipes from childhood, but I’m compensating now by creating a lot of vegan deliciousness:))
YASSS!!! It’s so hard to find a SIMPLE pie recipe that is refined sugar free. Thank you so much! My favorite pie would have to be either cherry or raspberry. Or chocolate cream. Or coconut cream. Or banana cream. I love pie hehe 😉
This looks so amazing! I am totally going to try arrowroot powder as a thickener! I love that idea! I had to use cornstarch in my last sauce video and I really wanted to try to find a replacement! This is awesome! thanks!
CAITLIN HAS A ROLLING PIN I REPEAT CAITLIN HAS A ROLLING PIN THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!! #ripglassbottles
Am I the only one who thinks this pie looks terrible? It kinda just looks like blueberries and crust. There’s really no filling. You should have used tapioca starch instead of cornstarch to make the filling thicker.
Can the vodka be left out in the recipe or is there a substitute for the vodka?
This just made my day I freakin’ love blueberries, so I’ll definitely try out this recipe! ☺ #blueberriesaremyfave
Childhood favorite: Brazilian cheese bread/balls ( pão de queijo). Have you ever had it? Loved the pie
Apple cider vinegar bottle got upgraded to a real rolling pin!!!!!
Love blueberry pie so this healthier version is definitely one I want to try!
Whole foods, blueberries, and pie: a handful of my favorite things all bunched up into a very nice package. Been watching and loving your videos, your processes, and your way of life for years-since before 20,000 subs; you’ve made a great impact on my life, and I can’t thank you enough.
Ooh nice rolling pin. Got to admit I miss the bottle of apple cider vinegar you used to use . The pie looks amazing definitely going to give it a go. I haven’t had a fruit pie in ages
Oh my gosh this looks so good!
I’m still so bothered by the misleading title, because maple syrup is refined sugar! Dr. Greger makes videos on his website NutritionFacts.org reviewing scientific journal articles on nutrition and laying out the facts about the healthiest way to eat (which is a plant based diet) You should check out his video on maple syrup. It’s hardly better than white sugar. In fact there are other sugar granules that are marginally healthier than it: https://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-healthiest-sweetener/
It’s an old one so it may look kinda goofy, but he links all his sources under the video.
If you’re oil free because it’s a whole food that has been refined to remove all the fiber, carbs, protein, and nutrients, and is now 100% pure fat empty calories, you should also be avoiding all sugar because it’s a whole food that’s been stripped of all fiber, protein, fat, and nutrients, and is now 100% pure carbs of empty calories. There are more studies that show that sugar is detrimental to our health than there are about oil. I personally avoid them both! This recipe could have easily and deliciously used dates to sweeten it:)
YUMMY THANKS YOU GOODNESS PREPPY AMAZING, ❤️ FAMILY DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS AWESOME BEAUTIFUL
Where did you come up with this recipe? I think I have seen it before
Favorite childhood snack was Vienna sausages, those are one thing they don’t make vegan, and I probably wouldn’t eat them if they did.
5 cups blueberry
Lemon juice and zest
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
Mix well
Take out uncooked crust from freezer
Before adding lattice grate 2 tbsp butter
425 20
375 40
Take foil off bake for extra 10
A question about starch, would arrowroot work in the Blueberries?
Sounds great but for anyone with low thyroid, use something other than tapioca!
Very good recipe. My pie crust dough was a little wet and it worked out. The receipe on the site says baked at 425 and then down to 325 but you said 375 in the video. I followed your video direction
MasyaALLAAH most beautifull pie who’s every girl fall in love that your cantixx berry pie
.. Thx for genius tutorial & recept.. Weu..
This is what I have every birthday instead of cake! Didn’t know other people did this!
Nice!! xx Do you know if it is okay to eat the black beans once they have been baked?
3:17 wen you can only see the rim of his glasses…so cute!
You’re a great teacher! I appreciate your attention to detail, but not obsessive about perfectionism. Your end results are always beautiful.
I appreciat your little pie crust tips and tricks/ failures haha
So many youtube cooks tend to not share those moments and we end up having a shrunked pie at the end.
Gonna apply your tricks to my apple pie recipe since my mom has been craving em in our quarantine days!
Will let you know how to goes.
This looks delicious…and good to make for Passover also!
I have watched so many YouTubers wh bake and John is by far the best one I have seen in years. It is not only the bakes but the way he interacts with his audience, he is a real breath of fresh air! I have tried so many of his recipes during the lockdown, I am at least 5 kg heavier. But who cares the bakes are so good!
You are not weird! I always requested key lime pie as my birthday “cake” growing up!
Yesss I will definitely be making this in the near future. ♀️ I love Blueberry Pie.
The blueberries looked like caviar when you were putting them in the pie
i like how he just put his fork down instead of eating with it
Caitlin how long were you vegetarian before going vegan? Just curious.
Awesome ingredients. so happy to have found an alternative for corn starch. Teaching my kids the importance of “pure” ingredients and how to cook. Thank you @weelicious and @sweet laurel.
3.14 foreva! Our family tends to have pies for birthdays too!
I like my crust to have some sweetness in it, any reason why u didn’t add any?
Caitlin your cat is funny with his waving tai!!! Hahaha …That’s blueberry pie is great! ❤ Thank’s for an inspiration
Not sure if you even know what they are, but more for nostalgia’s sake than me actually liking them, I really miss egg/custard tarts (usually served in Chinese dim-sum) Seeing them always makes me reminiscent of my childhood:’)
I used to love getting lemon meringue or sour cream lemon pie. Haven’t had those in years.
How many of those shirts do you have? Serious question, no shade intended—I have a similar one myself!
Looks delish! Do you think I can sunstitute the tapioca starch for the crust with corn starch?
Does it work with cherries too? I love your channel by the way, thanks for all the amazing recipes!
If you want thuper… thuper thin thrips, that made me laugh!
After rinsing blueberries I followed drying them with a spoonful of flour to perk up the flavor’s dancing moves right into my Mouth.
Made a lemon meringue pie yesterday over the weekend and burned the pie crust super epic fail I need more practice with my pie crust
Hello Caitlin, I’m 15 old in a non vegan house, my parents are always mad bc of the coasts of the fruits and vega idk how can I make it ok ( I can’t have a job)
Blueberry Pie is something you dont really see in the UK, I grow my own blueberries so am going to give this pie a try
Find someone that gives you the same look that John gives a blueberry pie after tasting it:D
7:34…take it from a black lady…the MIDDLE is the one that sits still the two outer ends wud be the one you twists
Hello, john!
I made my pie crust ( first time I have ever made pie) and I accidentally whizzed it a second too long. The butter combined with the flour into a buttery mixture (it was cold butter though)
and
when I added water it came together really fast.
I chilled it but IDK how its gonna come out.
Pray that it turns out good!
What do u think I might’ve done wrong other than over-whizzing?
Waiting for mine to finish! I forgot to get tinfoil but I’m hoping for the best
is baking a crust like that in metal tin okay? should i do it the same way as in glass or…
I am allergic to wheat flour. Can you makr more wheat free recipies❤️
Blueberry pie is my FAVORITE kind of pie! This looks so so delicious. I’d eat the WHOLE thing if I could!
I’m allergic to Blueberries man. I don’t want no Oompa Loompas dancing on my grave.
The link above is not a working one. If you want to see the full recipe, this one works just fine: https://thrivemarket.com/blog/paleo-blueberry-pie-recipe
Your recipes are fantastic! I appreciate your transparency about baking failures. You’re fun to watch! My recipe for blueberry pie was exactly like yours, delicious! Then, my sister gave me an old country cookbook. The blueberry pie recipe included 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg. I wasn’t sure about it, but tried it anyway. It’s amazing…just adds a depth of flavor, but you don’t really notice that it’s nutmeg. Happy baking!
02:57 it’s too much lemon you guys. I guess thats because this variety of gringo-lemon is not that acid? I follow his recipe and that much lemon juice with regular brazilian lemon (caipirinha’s lemon for everyone else) and the pie got very acid. so, this lemon part… have an eye on that and always be tasting the thing before baking it.
I am not vegan, but I fast so technically, I eat like a vegan And your recipes are by far the best! I now think I am going to transition to a vegan lifestyle..❤
Can you show me how to use pastry flour? My husband bought pastry flour by mistake. And I tried making a puff out it. But it didn’t cook. It was white even after an hour in th3 oven. But then it became a hard shell. Please help.
I’ll tell you what they don’t show in here. How yes add a good amount of sugar but also corn starch or the pie will be very runny
Now I just need a husband, children and bunch of nice neighbours to make this for
Awesoome! As always Also, I’ve always been curious about who eats all the food you cook/make if there’s anyone, cuz they so lucky
Yummy! Looks really good and the editing of this video is also nice:)
I tried this a couple of days and it was amazing my friends and my family were very satisfied and wanted me to make it again really thanks for the recipe
It’s a good recipe. We made an amazing pie, better than what you buy in a bakery. Ive reviewed several recipes, I don’t understand why other recipes only need 2.5 cups floor and less other ingredients. If you’re going to make a 8 inch double crust pie, 5 cups are needed. I tried 2.5 cup recipe and failed, definitely not enough to make 2 crusts. Use this recipe!
Yeah… I don’t do lemon. I want the bluberry flavor to be pure and unadulterated. It reminds me of those fucking “grape juice drinks”, which are about 1/4 apple juice, and you can taste it. And the thickening works WAY better if you use 50/50 corn starch and flour.
Definitely have burnt a couple pie crusts! We are remodeling and adding on; so I’m attempting to bake in one of those little counter top toaster ovens until I get my nice oven put in the kitchen (which is HARD for me because I LOVE baking and always being asked by family and friends to make cakes for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, etc.). Let Me Tell You…. that damn thing doesn’t bake anything the same way twice. I’m going to be making this pie. We will see what happens! LOL
meh, I don’t really like when the pie filling is falling out of the pie, so I would prefer having like a blueberry jelly inside. maybe I could make something with agar-agar? u guys know any recipes on YouTube that have the kind of blueberry pie that I want? would be great lol
Looks Delicious. I need a Blueberry pie recipe can I use frozen Blueberries for the recipe.
Would you recommend blind baking this pie before adding the blueberry filling? It seems like a rather moist pie!
This looks delicious and not so hard to make! Can’t wait to try it. I’ll try and substitute other fruits sometime…
What is that thing sticking out of your wall above your stove? I live in Europe and I don’t think we have that over here. I am so curious what it is and where you use it for?
Well ladies, I want to thank you so much! I started eating gluten and dairy free over a year ago due to an auto-immune condition and I have been feeling very lost, uninspired and depressed, but today I have gorged on your videos, I feel so much better, I’m re-inspired! I love your presentations, your nutritional advice and cooking tips, please make many more recipes.
Can we sub other fruit in here blueberries or even maybe diced peaches?
