What about Pomegranate juice? I would like to start drinking one cup daily and it’s not concentrated its straight up Pomegranate juice no additive no additional sugar. I would like to drink it because of the health benefits I know it high in natural sugar and carbs. But my daily sugar and carb intake is super low from what I eat daily my only carbs and sugar come from my vegetables.
I make my own bacon it’s easy it’s cheap and taste better than the store bacon. Five or six days of curing and then I smoke it to 155°. Pancetta is similar to bacon just requires different spices and longer curing.

Consider that your body can only handle 1 tsp of sugar in the blood stream at a time, all carbohydrates break down to sugar. Carbohydrates are not a essential nutrient. The definition of essential nutrient is that your body will have a disease by a deficit of the food. There are zero diseases we will get if we don’t eat carbs. There are a host of diseases we will get if we eat too many carbs, starting with obesity, T2D, cardiovascular disease…
Whole grain breads still break down to sugar. Furthermore, we get calories from all of our intake, not just carbs. The body fuels itself and runs on more than just calories from carbs. One must consider how the food reacts metabolically. Does the carbohydrate load spike the insulin and how much load am I putting in my pancreas and liver?

You only need 4g of glucose, your body can make this itself! Gluconeogenesis!! These carbs will elevate your blood sugar, an insulin response is the last thing you want. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but have you noticed that it’s always big pharma telling you not to do something that actually works. For example, low carb diet has proven to help you lose weight and become more healthy, there are a million people who have done it successfully and have been unsuccessful on a low fat diet. They can’t make money on healthy people with no medical conditions so they keep peddling their crap to keep you going to the doctor for more and more medications that don’t help.

the most effective diet for me was not a diet at all. My diet is I can eat whatever I want but when I hit 1200 calories I have to stop. Can’t have anymore food for the rest of the day. I only eat breakfast and supper at 4- 4:30 and 2 small snacks in between. It is so easy. I’ve dropped upwards of 5lb in a week healthily. fasting is good for you and I spend about 16-17 hours in a fasting state every day and I only eat between 10 AM and 5. 7 hours. The rest of the time I am fasting.
Don’t believe anything anyone says about a diet before they at least properly define the diet. More often than not, the low carb diet comparisons are generally using a lower high carb diet, not anywhere near what low carbers consider low carb: < 10%

GI and IGI are the factors that really matter when it comes to carbs, not the spoons of sugar in them. Does this person still measure weight in stones or something?

Low fat diet has gotten me nowhere, except overweight. Low carb diet (healthy fat) with intermittent fasting has been a game changer for me. Only carbs I eat are veggies, 1 low GCI fruit per day, and oatmeal every other day with flax seed and cinnamon. Not going back to the bullshit spouted from the “medical community”.
Eliminating such healthy foods as legumes and fruits is ridiculous. All the benefits of low carb diet are nullified by excluding healthy whole foods like legumes and fruits. And exactly what am I left with to eat?.. Mine is a whole food diet that I’ve been on for a couple of years. Six months after I started, my high cholesterol, high blood pressure, fatty liver, and pre-diabetes were gone.

First of all, carbohydrates are not essential, and they should be consumed in moderation and not so much through the day as it advertised everywhere. Key is to keep insulin low and kickstart it once your body is best ready to absorb nutrients. That being said, no.. going full nuts on keto until you end up in a coffin shouldn’t be taken in consideration. Although fats and protein should be the primary center of your diet, with carbohydrates being used strategically ocassionally to load up on certain nutrients and provide muscles and brain a certain boost in the system. 😉

I think any long -term diet restriction is unhealthy for you, and difficult to stick with anyway. A balanced diet of natural foods that are not made in factory and exercise always works long term. Low Carb/Low Fat work short-term for many, but I ALWAYS hear about people gaining back the weight. There is no “magic” diet other than natural foods eaten in moderation and in balance.

Men who do heavy work can not be on this kind of diet. If you work in an office, sit down sometime or most of the time, have a fairly easy going job, have several breaks a day, then perhaps, but if you’re working in the middle of the sea, fishing trawlers, oil rigs, construction, metal factories, carrying heavy loads all day, you won’t last one day!

On keto you don’t need all the carbs for energy because the body switches to fat as it’s primary energy source. We have got it all wrong for years. Check out the books Keto Clarity, The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung and the Diabetes Code by Dr Jason Fung. You can also check out Dr. Jason Fung on YouTube. He also teaches on intermittent fasting which has been a game changer for me in conjunction with keto. I am down 50 pounds and have struggled with obesity for most of my adult life. Intermittent fasting and keto in conjunction has been a game changer for me though.
There are three major myths we have fallen for in western culture…
1. Fat is bad.
2. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
3. Eat 5 to 6 small meals per day to keep metabolism going.
This is just not true. Fat is not bad because when you cut carbs and follow a keto lifestyle your body will naturally burn the fat for energy. Intermittent fasting actually supports healthy metabolism as well as many other health benefits that I will not get into. You could check out Dr. Jason Fung on YouTube for more info on intermittent fasting. I will say this however… if you study human history you will see that our bodies are actually designed to go periods of time without eating. Intermittent fasting also helps to keep our insulin levels down. When our insulin levels are consistently high we gain weight. The only people that need to be careful with this are people with type one diabetes. However people with type two diabetes have been treated incorrectly by medical experts for years. Again check out Dr. Jason Fung for more information on type 2 diabetes and how he is helping his patients to reverse the disease through intermittent fasting. Lastly you have the myth of eating 5 to 6 times per day. As I said before that does not speed up your metabolism. All that does is keep your insulin levels high. And I have already explained the results of that. Again I am not sharing something that I have not tried. Intermittent fasting in conjunction with keto has been a complete game changer for me. We need to start being a little more open minded to these ideas because the fact is true that we have got it wrong for years. People are following low fat lifestyles and yet we are more obese and more unhealthy than ever before.

Only one diet has been shown to not only burn fat rapidly but is also fun to adopt. You get to eat fatty foods like cream, butter, bacon, and so on. Itís not as harsh as the paleo diet and itís not as boring as the Atkins diet.

I eat foods that raise my metabolism, so I can eat anything. Also, I keep the fiber low not essential and not digestible. I watch my calories.
My concern about watermelon and other melons, is the fructose. Berries are mostly glucose as well as grapefruit and lemons and lime. Fructose is much worse than glucose. Melon is highly not recommended by me on keto.

Hi Dr. Becky, I have a question. In April 2019 my A1C shot up to 10.9 after having been well-controlled previously with Trulicity. I immediately started fasting; all the variations of intermittent and then also alternate day fasting 36 hours water only followed by 12 hour eating window. I’ve done one 5-day water fast per month since April. I love fasting, especially the prolonged fasting because I have no hunger and no cravings. I began also to reduce carbohydrate consumption and slowly transitioned to Keto (50 g or less net carbs) and varied that with just low carb (100g or less net carbs) and also periods of time where eating resembled former patterns although to a lesser degree. By the end of August my A1C was 7.1 At the August blood work I had asked for a C-reactive protein and a blood insulin level (had not been tested for either before). My C-reactive protein was elevated at 15.3 as was the blood insulin at 21.8 I had new blood work in January 2020, fully expecting my C-reactive protein and blood insulin to both be much improved along with a lower A1C. My A1C was 6.9 which was better although not as low as I had hoped or expected. However, my C-reactive protein had risen sharply to now 51. Blood insulin was also higher at 24.2 My MD explained that as I become more insulin sensitive the blood insulin may rise temporarily because the insulin is being released from organs and other tissue but that it would normalize with time. I don’t know if that is right or not but it sounds reasonable. Neither my MD or my endocrinologist were the least bit concerned about the C-reactive protein. I also stopped eating inflammatory fats and cook all my meals at home; fats are KerryGold butter, avocado oil, duck fat, coconut oil, and olive oil but I don’t heat the olive oil. Meat is organic grass fed and grass finished beef, eggs are organic and pasture raised. Fish is Vital Choice wild Alaskan salmon. I’m stumped, I’ve completely changed what and how I eat and feel so much better although I know I have a long way to go to regain my health. I’m 57 years old, post menopausal (went through menopause in my 30’s), type 2 diabetic diagnosed about 15 years ago. 309 lbs., down from my top weight of 360 and down from 340 in April 2019. Carbohydrates are BAD for you. I was very fat for 20 years… I suffered abuse about eating cakes & biscuits but I wasn’t eating them!!! No, no, NO I was eating stuff like cereals, fruit out of season, vegetable oils, margarine… Anything labelled as “low fat”…. Well, about a year ago I discovered that if you avoid carbs as best you can from your diet, you will lose weight. I have lost around 180 pounds (with about 30 left to lose). Carbs cause your body to make INSULIN. For people who suffer from or have a propensity to get fat, (like me), we make too much insulin when carbs get in our bloodstream. Because too much sugar in the blood is very bad for all of us, people like me make slightly too much insulin. This overstrips the sugar out but then makes you hungry so you eat more because while the last residue vestiges of INSULIN are in your bloodstream, your body cannot make use of the fat stored on it. No-one gets badly overweight overnight; it happens because a small amount of over-production of insulin will make the sufferer retain perhaps 4 or 5 ounces over a week or so it’s enough to make you fat in the longer term. Want to lose weight? Stop actively eating carbohydrates and avoid refined sugars or foods containing it like the plague!

i dont consider avocados, olives, and tomatoes to be fruit, and i never eat starfish. so the only fruit mentioned here that i would consider are berries. and yet she said right at the end there that vegetables have all of the nutrients that fruit has, so that really, one can avoid fruits altogether and yet stay healthy

Im 66 years old retired and at 240 lbs. 5’11’ its very hard to stick to this plan…. but it is working slowly. I have found that having 2 good vegetable smoothies a day(no fruits in this) really helps me over the hump of hunger pangs, but mostly it keeps me away from the urge to take on carbs that I just love but dont costume this is my 5th day, I have lost 4.5 pounds so its working! i dont consider olives, avocados, or tomatoes to be fruit. they may be from a scientific point of view, but from a nutritional point of view, avocados are far more like nuts, while tomatoes are far more like vegetables. far more importantly, though, was one of the very last things that the lady in the video said here, namely that nutritionally, one does not really need fruits, that vegetables already have all the nutrients that fruits have, but with the added advantage that vegetables are not considered to be a form of sugar the way fruits are. still, there remains a part of me that thinks, “how can fruit possibly not be healthy to eat?” it seems to defy common sense

The NHS advocates AGAINST low carb diets. The NHS believes that low carb promotes ‘fat burning’, and must be stopped. The NHS also believes that low carb diets promote muscle loss. This was told to me by a diabetes nurse at South Tyneside Hospital. I argued against what she was saying, but she was adamant.
I reported this back to a doctor at my surgery in South Tyneside and was advised by the NHS doctor that I mustn’t disagree with qualified doctors when discussing diabetes (type 2, as i am). Any thoughts anybody?
Just to be absolutely clear; carbs are NOT evil. Especially naturally occurring carbs from unprocessed foods; they have a perfectly logical purpose in nature and no, it is not just to make you fat. Instead, think of carbs as a “tool” and should be used only for specific reasons. Also, (IMO) Keto shouldn’t be thought of as a “diet” either. Diet is a marketing term that makes most people roll their eyes. It should also be thought of as a tool that one uses to help achieve whatever your health goals are. If you plan to do Keto indefinitely, then it becomes a lifestyle.
I understand that this video is aimed at those who are attempting a Keto/Low-carb diet and it’s a pretty solid video overall but it feels like you’re telling people to “never” eat these foods “ever” while on Keto (even a little) because they will never lose weight if they do, even if they’re doing low-carb. Obviously, this is not true.
In my opinion, the primary benefit of Keto/low-carb lifestyles is the fact that you’re not constantly spiking your blood sugar all day and thus not spiking your insulin. Having lots of insulin in your blood all the time is the #1 reason (in my opinion) why most people don’t lose weight despite all the exercising and salads they eat. Sugar and carbs raise your blood sugar higher and faster then anything else, which causes the beta cells in your pancreas to secrete lots of insulin in order to regulate your blood sugar in order to prevent hyper/hypoglycemia. The insulin tells your cells to take the sugar out of your blood and use/store it. In other words, if you always have lots of insulin in your blood, it is basically impossible to lose body fat (especially as you get older). Also, flooding your blood with insulin all the time for years can lead to “insulin resistance” (among other serious problems), which is the pre-cursor to type II diabetes (when your cells basically start ignoring the insulin). The next time you see a guy at the gym who has bulky arms and chest but still has a “gut”, understand that guy basically has too much insulin in his body (most likely from the cheap, sugary whey proteins loaded with carbs that you see everywhere) because while carbs do help build muscle, too many carbs will prevent your existing fat from ever being used.
I have been doing “dirty” Keto for 3 months now. 5 days per weeks I have less then 10g of carbs (I do HIIT training on these days), 2 days per week I have between 25-40g of carbs (the days I do intense weight training). For those two days where I increase my carbs a little, I have them the night before so that when I do weight training the next morning, I get a little extra power for that first 30 minutes or so of lifting so I can go a bit longer and harder. Again, i use them sparingly as a “tool” to help with gaining muscle mass. I still rely on fats primarily for energy but that extra little chunk of carbs gives me that boost that I want when I hit the weights.
After three months, combined with intermittent fasting and daily exercise, I have lost roughly 25 pounds (at least 20 of that was visceral and subcutaneous fat per my DEXA scans). For the first time in 15 years, I can actually see my abs! Obviously, my situation is unique and I had to spend a lot of time experimenting and learning and I certainly wouldn’t guarantee my lifestyle would yield the same results for everyone, I just wanted to make the point that you don’t have to be afraid of carbs as long as you clearly understand their purpose and don’t over-indulge. The same can be said about anything; if you over-indulge, something bad will eventually happen.
I’ve eaten a low carb diet for almost twenty years and some of your choices as low carb aren’t. I would suggest rather than going by a list people who want low carb should download tables of carbs for most vegetables and fruit. You’ll find that tomatoes and peppers and onions are all to be eaten in very limited portions. Check out the carbs on a can of sauerkraut. It’s low per tablespoon but high per serving. I like nothing better than a couple of weenies on a plate of sauerkraut but the carbs add up quickly. I try to hold my carbs as low as possible thru out the day so I have a bit more leeway at dinner to enjoy a sit down meal.
It may be that living a low carb lifestyle is a skill that must be developed over time. Just like anything else, your not very good at doing anything at first but over time you get better and better. That may be the key. Trial and error until you find what works for you. A Korean friend once told me it takes about 30 days for your body to properly adapt to a new way of eating. So don’t expect to be an expert at low carb living over night. It takes time. However don’t forget to drink lots and lots of water. Most people don’t drink anything even remotely close to enough water. It’s really basic but so very vital to healthy living. You need that water to flush your system out of all the toxins in the digestive system. All those chemical reactions to convert food to energy produce waste and that waste needs to be flushed out every day.

I just started my plan of diet this 2020 since Jan. 4 and it is 10 days for now and I can feel my body is losing weight just eating 2 boiled egg and 1 banana in breakfast. And 2 pieces of boiled carrot in lunch with tuna and for dinner steamed chicken with okra and soy sauce. I will be back here if I got more improvement of my diet. I have been trying to find an easy to follow diet plan, I looked at Keto, Weight Watchers and a few others. Keto looks too confusing and Weight Watchers has changed so much since I followed in back in the early 70s. So I decided to just count calories and watch my foods heavy in carbs.

But if these things are low in carbs, why can’t we eat them? If there was “hidden sugars” in food, wouldn’t they be high in carbs? I have a bit of ketchup with my bacon. A tablespoon has 4 carbs. I went on Keto, stuck to it for 3 weeks, but I was constantly weak, constipated, and tired. I switched to low-carb, no sugar and I don’t lose the 4 lbs a week as I was on Keto, I’m losing about 2 lbs a week but feeling a lot better now.

I think after seeing this we can learn from it and eat the carbs in moderation. And as long as we exercise and burn most of the calories that we eat you’re still going to be lean. If you go by this you’re going to be unhealthy or to lean because you have not eaten properly for weeks and it will push you the other way and I’ll just give up.

Caution: low carb does NOT equal keto! Please read through some of these studies quoted by medical experts (if they even post them) and you’ll find that they are referring to diets with around 20% of calories coming from carbohydrates (any carbohydrate) and sometimes high protein, which is more than enough to keep insulin levels high and cause problems.
I’ve just recently noticed how my taste buds changed. I’ve been low-carbing now for about a month. My son offered me a sugar cookie and it was not sweet to me at all! It was like a mouthful of flour.
It is also important to look at trying to avoid the highest glycemic index carbs, right? I guess the carbs you recommend are complex carbs. I get into trouble with certain carbs and i suddenly have an endless appetite. And i bought dark choc by Lindt and it is very good, but says 85% cocoa, not cacao, so i am not sure ab it. Amazing taste. We also have 72% cacao choc chips. I like them in my Fage 5% plain yogurt with some walnuts and a drop of honey.
I am sorry, I am going to ignore your inclusion of sweet potatoes, which I will continue to enjoy, in moderation of course. Same with Taro. These are fantastic food with many nutrients and fibers, everybody should eat them!

I cannot get into burning weight on this kinosis diet. I did lose 167 lb keeping my carbs to 25 per meal. But it’s 61 my body is just not moving any of that weight. I’m riding on these sites just no good nobody ever answers you they make a video and disappear if I don’t hear from anybody I’m beginning to think all these people who have 16k followers it’s a bunch of horse pucky there’s nobody watching it at all they’re paying YouTube every month to make it look like they have followers as they do on Facebook and Twitter.
