I started Keto nearly a year ago and my chronic insomnia and migraines are gone. Also the depression and anxiety. I have never felt so good or this healthy. It’s amazing and just wish I had known about keto 30 years ago!! I’m grateful
I’m not fat or overweight. I tried keto and made me lose too much energy to the point I wanted to sleep several times a day. Anyone else have this issue with no energy on keto?
Yes, low carb will help you drop some weight (if you can stay with it long enough. Jimmy Moore is a perfect example of a guy who can’t). And yes, low carb will improve certain marker, but markers aren’t the disease. All low carb does is control the numbers. It doesn’t cure anything. Drugs will also drop you blood pressure. So, the marker (blood pressure) is reduced, but you didn’t fix the problem that caused you blood pressure to got high in the first place. Low carb will help you control the marker for type 2 which is blood sugar, but it won’t cure the disease which is insulin resistance. You’ve got these 50 year old low carb you tubers telling you how wonderful low carb works for them. However, every time they eat carbs in one of their online experiments their blood sugar spikes just as high as 20 years earlier when they started low carbing. Another way of controlling blood sugar numbers is to take a pills or pills, or if things get bad inject insulin, but you haven’t fixed the disease all you’re going is playing with the numbers. That’s what low carb does. It tricks you into thinking you’re getting better. But sadly, the small amount of carbs you do eat might not spike your blood sugar but you insulin is spiking from 3X to 5X the amount needed to control the small amount of carbs you do eat. And in the process you are getting more insulin resistant and sicker. High insulin levels do just as much damage as high blood sugar levels. Fix the underlying problem and get back to being able to eat just about anything you want without spiking your blood sugar.
I have to add a bit to my comment on this Taubes presentation. It’s really sad to see this beaten man still trying to believe and push his pet theory on insulin/carbs. His NuSu organization which was supposed to prove his hypothesis collapsed when the first study they did trying to prove this theory bombed and proved that in fact a calorie is a calorie and that high fat diets didn’t burn anymore fat or calories than did a high carb diet and that high carb diets don’t make you fat. So, all that Taubes accomplished was to prove that insulin DOES NOT make you fat. It’s a shame that he was so angry at the results of that study the he himself set up and had funded that he tried to suppress those findings to prevent them from being published and presented. As a result that main researchers who were promised no interfere quit and the 42 million in funding provided by the Arnold Foundation dried up and they had to lay off most of their staff and stop all research. But of course Taube’s book sales and income result specifically from his theory that insulin as a result from eating carbs is what makes you fat. Now that has proven not to be true and this guy looks like a broken man. His last hope is to believe that his diet doesn’t make you sick long term. Sadly, that won’t prove to be true either.
Obesity is excess calories, nothing more
This is easily demonstrated by overfeeding studies, and the weird accounts of people eating primarily ice cream/twinkies/mcdonalds etc but reduced calories.. and SURPRISE!
They lose weight
Unless these people still think carbs make you fat?
Great interview
Very honestly answered
So how does Propolis have an influence on our diets
Propolis has over 4000 compounds in it
Thanks for such a concise presentation on sugar. Though I would like to add that the tobacco industry did target sugar with introduction of menthol into their cigarettes to make them palatable. Furthermore, protagonists or role models from television programs were shown to smoke and yet remain very healthy.
I guess people in Hollywood have been eating babies and drinking their blood for decades now, is that keto? Alzheimer’s is caused by aluminum. He’s right about the gut, the gut is huge!! They need to cut up all the people in Hollywood and feed the hungry with their flesh, like soilent green. I have no idea what this guy is taking about but I’m doing keto immediately! I’ve tried MCT oils but I usually shit myself.
This sounds crazy but imagine if we could do something to make bitter foods taste good and sweet taste bitter or bad, problem solved!
My mother is 94 and sharp as a tack. She says ” to live these days with all my wits is taxing.” She can’t eat many things due to stomach problems but eats tons of oysters that she loves. Zinc!!! Thanx.
Using the word moderation seems odd when talking about a scientific topic especially obesity (Which is quantifiable). The word moderation means nothing unless it is defined in quantifiable terms
Obesity the gift that keeps on giving -money making people sick and addicted then make the big bucks in healthcare and as an added bonus people are easier to control -sounds like a good business model to me.
All evidence points low carb high fat is anti disease anti inflammatory. As the years go on and studies mount up no one will be able to escape the truth that carbs have been doing more harm than good and the lies that we have all be told to keep us sick for doctors and big pharma to cash in
Wow been doing keto for about 4 months, and it’s great, but this is an infomercial
the issues with weight gain are complex across the world. People want simple…Low carb is simple. Once you get to low carb/high fiber/higher fat & correct the protein, hopefully people will look at what’s next. Stop pointing at the victim…Look at the environment because that is the ultimate cause. Air, water, lack of any physical movement, sleep disturbances.
KETO, INTERMITTENT FASTING AND FASTING helped me lose 50 pounds. Here’s exactly what I did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnmXsGvAZ7o&feature=youtu.be
C’mon… You’re better than clickbait titles. Thumbs-down for that, regardless of content.
Nonsense, it’s whole grains, fruit/ veg, we are meant for the most part to live of the land [ plant based] not animal meats. How many Americans are eating whole grains, fruit / veg, hardly any and look at the results. Science says we are made from the elements of the ground [ NOT ANIMAL MEATS] which interestingly the bible backs up Gen 3: 19
This was such an incredible interview… I gained so much. TY both
Day ten on keto and down 15 lbs…my wife can’t believe I’m down 15 lbs. I am also doing omad for five days now..I make it I’ll about 3pm before I feel hungry and I push through till 6 then eat..I like how I am feeling, more alert, more energy and my constant dry skin feels like it’s healing..not sure why I guess the fats are working through the whole body..

Wtf tom, I didnt think you are like those people, you make the title say that there is something very wrong about ketos that you will expose, this is a misleading title tom, and you meant it to be so for clicks, dont be that shitting, i may endup not watching you
What the Keto diet seems to achieve is drastically reducing inflammation in the body. The weight loss is just a side effect, and a good one! But ultimately, reducing that inflammation is what will change your life.
I really respect Gary’s work! He fears no one when it comes to questioning the status quo. Bravo! Get well soon Gary.
I was reading something that said the Ketogenic diet could be a cure for cancer as tumers feed off the glucose in your blood and by switching to keto
you’re basicly starving them to death
When starting keto do it slowly. If u go cold turkey u will feel like dirt for a bit which can be self defeating.
I have been on it for about 15 months now. After about 9 months i weaned off one antidrpressant med. Now I am weaning off the last one. At 62 i have more physical & mental energy than Ive had since my thirties. Even as a kid my fave food group was fats, not sweets. In my 50s i noticed carbs were really making me feel bad. Once i learned about keto the light bulb lit up! I rarely crave carbs now. But when i do i will eat them. But even that is short lived. I dont miss them.
I eat mostly keto, but live in France and the food I’d have to cut out would be too much. Eating every second day does the same thing as ‘eating Keto’… ketones are very high on the fast day and stay moderately high on the eating day. Only really drink wine, have a baguette or croissant on one or two days a week, but I stay in high ketosis with Alternate Day Fasting.
I’m so thankful there are doctors like you to teach the rest of us. I’ve been practicing emergency medicine in US for 18 yrs. I feel like I’ve committed malpractice all these years giving patients the wrong advice. Now I talk to every patient about LCHF. Here’s where I feel like I can actually make a difference in saving lives.
Excellent talk. Thank you Dr. Andy Galpin and Eric Ruiz for such an informative discussion.
Yeah..agree there. Gary’s “calorie book” was the eye and mind-opener for me many years ago. Here again he just explains it so wonderfully nice, as always! Thanks!
Tom have you looked into the liver being able to synthesize our own Vitamin C.
Over decades I’ve tried lots of these highly-restrictive diets. And why are there so many of them? Why can’t we find that “perfect” one? Ha. I’ve heard this term “keto” for a while now, but never felt spurred to learn about it. As I sort of suggested, I’m kinda over highly-restrictive ways of eating. But oh how they persist, heh. But I decided to find out the basics of this one just now. In an article I was reading, I came upon a paragraph that spoke of the things to avoid. Started with “fruit,” and the rest of the list was sh*t food that I never eat anyway (processed junk, flour-y baked goods and all, dairy, refined sugar). What came to me, “throwing out the baby with the bath water.” Just seems awful to put fruit in that list of truly junk food. It makes no sense to me. I eat most of the good foods on the keto “good” list. In fact forcing oneself to eat a whole bunch of this and none or almost none of that (all among good healthy foods), makes no sense to me. I think, like many of these very restrictive diets, ppl have initial health improvement because they eliminate, well, the “bath water”(truly junk food). And that part is a good thing, and likely the first time they’ve done it. But eliminating awesome natural food we call “fruit”? What an awful way to live, under such restrictions, and who knows the long-term effects. And eliminating the joy of eating wonderful real food, with all its juice-y goodness and nutrition. And just maybe it has some magical joo-joo we don’t know about? lol 😉 Just seems, um, not wise to shun our phenomenal fruit babies. shrugs Best health advice ever, variety and moderation.
I like taubes but he’s been giving the same exact speech for ten years.
Gary is starting to resemble Abraham Lincoln. He may be as important as well
What is the human state? From decades of learning about our history, which started with the reading of the Britannica Encyclopedias, and seeing the negative effects that took place. I can say, people are not close to living as humans should be living, today.
What if, you could eat anything, our body and brain can process anything. What if, you only needed one meal a day or a meal in two days? How much energy does a calm, quite brain take from the body in a day? Compared to a active, not so calm brain?I firmly believe based on my life experiences and the earliest civilizations, when, people lived for centuries, that how you use your brain will determine more so on how long you live, than, what you eat.
I live in Houston, less than 40 minutes away from the campus where you had Low Carb Houston 2018. I regret that I couldn’t make it, as I had to go out of town on a work related conference on that week. Thank you so much for posting that video, for those who couldn’t be there.
Dropped and impressive 14 lbs in 3 weeks of keto. No longer do I feel inflamed and angry/depressed. Energy levels are through the roof, and I’m accomplishing all my goals in study and work. I’m soon going to make double the money I’m making right now all thanks to Keto.
Everything in life works great when my brain is in keto
My Greek father in law is 81yrs old and has parkinson’s. I am doing a carnivore diet and I am regularly in ketosis. My father in law is about 5’8″ tall and weighed about 200lbs. His diet was 90% beans, okra, lentils and such. He was so swollen and inflamed from the ankles and up and could not even get off the chair by himself. He is now doing a very strict keto diet, um for about 3 weeks now consisting of 1 egg a day, a variety of meats and some hard greek cheese called Graviera. Also a few vegies like cucumbers, romaine olive oil and vinager. THe swelling has greatly diminished and he can now get up by himself and his weight is way down, (he wont allow me to take his weight. He say after 1 month. I make sure he gets his elektrolytes. He was so sick and afraid of dying that he gave this way of eating a try. It took a few weeks of talking with him out of love for him and his health. Please dont give up!
Coming in from 2019…just left the hospital….last meal was ziti, garlic bread, and fruit cocktail from a can.. nothings is changing in the medical community after all these years.
I have been on keto for over a year. I started it because I read that I had to stay away from sugar and carbs for my rheumatoid arthritis. My doctor said it wasn’t true, but, I was on it 2 months already and was off one of my pills. I decided to stay on it and have lost over 50 lbs. and off all my medication for rheumatoid arthritis. I am very happy and have no arthritis pain in my body. I am very happy with the recipes and will always eat this way. Shockingly I do not miss pasta, sweets and ice cream. I have all substitutes that are just as good. I am 73 and feel the best I ever did.
Ok, so I’ve been looking around on-line and can’t seem to find a good source of Acetoacetate. The video says that you take BHB with Acetoacetate at 3:30
I was on keto for about a year or year and a half. Then, I changed jobs, moved back home, and got off keto. I slowly started becoming less mentally quick. I was having problems with stress and depression. I have got back on keto and I feel better all the way around. I don’t care about the fitness or athletic part just the mental well-being benefits of keto make me want to stay on this permanently.
I have had to work hard at getting into spices and herbs when cooking and get away from sugar. Everything I eat now is spicy, complex herbal flavors, healthy fats, moderate protein. And I eat a lot less than I used to.
damn, Gary looks bad. I’m getting off this keto diet right now.
I have Taubes’ books on hand to distribute as needed. A few recipients include:
the resident and dietician at the hospital after my brother’s heart attack;
staff members at my mom’s nursing home who want to control their weight and diabetes “like your family”;
the Ubiquinol product sampler at Costco;
my college roommate who joined me for Low Carb USA conference;
the inmates I work with who realize that sugar often triggers their cravings;
members of my monthly Low Carb Meetup group;
any doctor I go to;
pretty much anyone!
I am so fucking averse to believing the credibility of the information in this video, because of that stupid ass click bait title. What self respecting academic uses bullshit titles like that. Don’t even get me started on the thumbnail.
And yet again talking about fatness when the majority of people with metabolic syndrome are thin people…
Which clinical trials published where? Seems important to site what studies you base your conclusions on.
It’s great to question orthodoxy and experts but if you get to sure of yourself your doing exactly the same thing as them. Open-mindedness and transparency seem very important
Not too much food, in regards to obesity, too many calories.
Has anything been done with free diving, and breath holding?
I found his talk to be incoherent.I hear a lot of what it’s not caused by and not much of why it is. Make better. There is a place for bluntness. Seems like a well studied guy though.
For anyone us who have had the “pleasure” of eating MRE’s, it would be interesting to see the nutritional value of those meals.
Let us take the same amount of energy in two fluids. If I put the same amount of energy in my car in the form of gasoline or in the form or water do you think it will affect how the car runs and it’s performance?
I didnt understand your answer if starch was processed differently or in a non deleterious manner compared to sugar.
Be really hungry at some point of each day. Don’t eat until you are. You’re welcome.
I know you are telling the truth my sister and I ate the same thing for years. She stayed around 98 to 110, oh not me I gained and gained I went up to 155. I went on a diet like what they said to eat, I gained.
The keto diet has changed my life, I lost 5 kilos in a month, only changing my diet… Also, I was able to reverse my type 2 diabetes… I love keto food and cooking delicious
Thanks man. I love listening to smart people…hoping some of it rubs off i guess lol.
You’re a hero, Gary…. thank you…. please please keep it up…. we are benefiting already from your work….
I have a long time client, she has been on Keto for 10 months, she lost 30 lbs, off of her high blood pressure meds, off of her Diabetes meds, skin looks clear and she looks great. However as her stylist I noticed that between her last appt(3 months) she had lost I would est, about 30 percent of her hair. Has anyone heard of this? Is it related? Common?
KETO literally saved my life, lost 60 lbs, T2D gone!!!!
I now understand! Eight days of ZERO carbs I have lost eight pounds of weight. Eight days after a diagnosis of type two diabetes. The diabetes nurse insisted that I follow a a low fat, low calorie diet!
News for you sweetheart, I’ve lived my whole life on your advice and ended up with diabetes anyway. My next appointment will be in two months….. watch this space!
Officially a month into Keto. Inflammation from Hashimoto’s disease all the way down. My body looks completely different. My energy is so high I do not wake up tired. I can go long without my first cup of coffee which is HUGE for me because I was a heavy coffee drinker, couldn’t function without it! Also, I used to wake up with joint pain and foot pain that is all gone!!! I am amazed at how much better I feel now at 33 than I did in my early 20s. I am grateful for this lifestyle change. It’s amazing! oh and the added perk looking even younger.:-)
This is my 3rd day of Keto and it has made me ravenously hungry:( why??
So eloquently spoken with great confidence. Shows how sure he is about every word he is speaking
What is Penlargerem System? I have heard many amazing things about this popular male enhancement.
Listen, I like the diet but you guys are starting to sound like vegans. I will keep up keto, but you fucks can keep your weird little cult shit.
I didn’t need no Keto diet, that diet may cause some possible problems like liver, kidney and heart issues…..My story…..I’m a 63 year old man. I was 31% body fat, a BMI of 29..depressed and got out of breath quickly. My doc said I needed to change, or else..so, I first cut out sugar. When that happened, my depression virtually vanished…THAT is the best thing a person can do. I sweeten using Stevia, a healthy substitute. I upped my green intake a LOT, slowed WAY down on carbs, especially breads and most pastas. It’s ok to indulge once in a while..Rice is OK, as long as the glycemic load is low, like basmati (medium) but black or wild rice is best. Very high in anti-oxidants.I made sure to check glycemic LOADS of foods, not the number. I QUIT DRINKING BEER, high in carbs and sugars….red wine is good for you I eat more plant based protein but still eat fish and chicken, hardly any red meat. I started weight training and I workout about 5 hours a week and moderate cardio. Lots of brisk walking. So, after about a year and a half, I have a BMI of 23.5 and a body fat % of 14, and I look REAL good…Like I said, the BEST thing is to quit sugar. That was a game changer for me.
Keep doing keto
Wait for your arteries to harden
And your heart to fail
Jeff Volek has shown in talks that there are studies demonstrating the atherogenicity of LDL depends on the predominate pattern. Pattern A is not atherogenic. And what results in more pattern A and less pattern B? You guessed it, LCHF. Jeff also said “omega 6” fatty acids also seem to be elevated on LCHF but they have a job to do in the body and in the presence of an LCHF diet, it’s theorized that they’re “protected” if you will from being acted upon by reactive oxygen species or free radicals, possibly because less ROS and free radicals are produced when oxidizing fat for fuel in ketosis instead of glucose.
Won’t work with the current administration? Talk about elitist. There are people to be saved from horrible diseases and early death. Please swallow your pride and political bias and work with anyone who can help you help the masses.

How would you explain Kempners rice diet if Carb is driving fat via insulin?
he thinks that “grass fed” beef is a nonindustrialized practice. Grass fed doesn’t mean they are roaming green pastures as they would like us to think. They are mostly eating bundled dried hay “grass” (timothy, legumes; alfalfa, clover) like all other beef stock. Whether they also get silage or additional corn/grains varies and is typical. The type of marbling you see in the butcher cuts tend to involve fattening grains.
I agree that there is genetic variability in the human population that results in diffrent body types, metabolisms etc, but Taubes idea that there are lots of people eating a healthy diet that are overweight and obese is factually incorrect. Excess body weight is a result of a diet high in calorie density. This idea of eating in moderation is vague, I eat alot of food, but the calorie density of my diet is not high and I am very active…
Keto Diet is simply eating natural food the way it was intended by nature, and to follow the natural cycles of the body instead of forcing it into artificial schedules.
I am lucky I’ve been doing this all my life without even realizing it. I love natural food and Ive usually just eaten once a day. I’m 40 years old and everyone thinks I’m in my twenties.
I had heard information about how carbohydrates were correlated to weight gain and therefore basically to avoid carbohydrate, still had at no time thought of utilizing them to lose the weight. The most important strategy behind the 4 interval fat loss treatment is to teach your entire body to burn off fat for energy rather than carbs. https://tinyurl.com/y92nuszy
Calories are the culprit, When I got fat eating bread thickened with butter was it the fat or the carbs? A COMBINATION OF BOTH, but I tell you what, it was the butter that was the driver!!!!!
I cut off sugar and carbs since 2 weeks. I hate vegetables but since then I am drawn to it. I just love carrots! the natural sweetness of a carrot is just 1000 times better than all that sugar bombed sweets. Keto was the best decision I ever made. Also my mood improved!
Guys throw away the sugar and carbs!
3-5 days will be hard but after that you will feel like a teenager again.
I also always had problems to take deep breath. It’s gone since I stopped sugar and carbs. I think it was the Gluten because Gluten like the name says is a glue protein and it glues your lungs!
I never understood how someone can keep feeding themselves junk when everyone around them is begging them to change. That’s a level of stubborn I’ll never understand. A form of idiocy beyond words. I call it the “fuck it mentality”.
Your health is all you really have in this world, but so many people are outright careless. They’d rather eat pizza every day and lose 20 years of potentially healthy lifespan. I hope you REALLY enjoy that pizza.
Will power is all you need to kick any habit.
In college I had a thin, slothful roommate/best friend and I decided I would eat bite for bite the exact same food as she ate..expecting to lose weight. What I learned was she never bothered to eat vegetables at all and ate way more chips and salty snacks than I did….after 2 months I had gained 6.5 pounds, and felt less healthy so I quit…
I think this sentence 2:54 clearly highlights what’s happening to the USA under the current government.
As a person who has been keto for two years I was really enjoying this until things took a weird turn talking about tying a person with Alzheimer’s arms back and making them eat. So weird and horrific actually.
Those raising livestock have always known that some are ‘easy keepers’ and get fat on minimal amounts of food, while others are ‘had keepers’. and tend to stay lean. Why would the human animal be any different?
There has long been a tendency to blame people for their problems. ‘Bad karma’ from a former life… ‘eveything happens for a reason’ when cancer or a tsunami hits… and glutony and laziness if people are overweight. Even now, most physicians think that obesity causes Type 2 diabetes, instead of insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes causing the person to become oveweight.
What is it in our environment/food that has caused 70% of the population to be carb sensitive/addictive?How has our bodies self regulation process been compromised? Hypothalamus?
So inspired…My husband and I are in our 60s had issue with weight all our lives…Keto has freed us.. he’s no longer diabetic and I am free of calorie counting..ty for your research..now I need to educate my Drs
Am i the only one who have a crush on him with the biology teacher beard
I found out the shocking truth when after 6 weeks of stumbling through this diet that i lost 20lbs… how do you just lose 20lbs, my fat ass just didn’t walk away… or did it!
Taubes brought this to light, I figure. I wonder how much health it has bettered.
I would like to hear a rebuttal to the ketogenic diet. It’s my understanding that people in Blue Zones consume a lot of carbs. Sure you can lose weight rapidly. Atkins showed us how to do it. But is the ketogenic diet a healthy approach to eating for the long-term? That is what many people are pondering Personally, I always felt fatigued on a low carb diet. Sometimes, I would plop down on my sofa at 3 PM and feel so fatigued, I felt like I was going into a coma. It was dangerous. It was scary.
I’m very skeptical of people saying they have more energy on a ketogenic diet. Sounds like a placebo effect to me. How many can stay on the diet even for a year? Atkins’ patients had a high dropout rate. Most people find it too restrictive. I did too, but it was great for weight loss. Just not a permanent life style.
Right now I am very thin, but eating more carbs, mainly Muesli with no added sugar. Of course, it has sugar in it from fruit and a lot of carbs. My energy level is high. I rarely feel the need to lie down in the afternoon. I can go the whole day with high energy. My fasting blood sugar has always been low normal, like 77-80, but I want to have a 2 hour glucose tolerance test to see how well I am metabolizing carbs. That will tell me whether I can eat the current level of carbs, or need to restrict.
Whole grains are good, vs. whole grains are bad is another debate I would love to hear. There are compelling arguments on both sides. A large % of adults in this country are insulin resistant, meaning they can’t process carbs, so for them I think carb restriction is necessary. What about the non-insulin resistant population?
Love Gary! I just don’t understand why he has to throw politics into an otherwise amazing talk. “….six WHITE men…”, “….an administration I wasn’t willing to work with.” What a time we live in, where it seems Kim and Kanye are the only ones big enough to get over themselves. smh
But there is also another point of view:

One apple a day paused fat loss….wow….maybe Dr Berg didn’t make up that story….or he plagiarized….lol
His theory is bogus. The latest science suggests that dietary fat might be more of a driver of overeating than carbs, and if we look at the most popular fast foods it’s all very high fat eg. fried chicken is America’s favorite fast food by far.
I’m so grateful for people like Gary Taubes. He actually cares about people and their well being, unlike those organizations and individuals who have only pretended to care about public health for the last 50 years. Conflicts of interest have caused untold pain in the lives of millions. Thanks, Keto Dudes.
Jesus I can’t watch all of this. How fast does she speak. My head hurts
“We eat what lean people eat, and it makes us fat.” 3:40 Exactly. In the 1990s, the Doctors told me I was fat because I ate too much fat. Now, the Doctors tell me I’m fat because I eat too much carbs. This is despite the fact that I long ago eliminated soda, fruit juice, sweet fruit, junk food, etc. They just tell me that whatever I eat must be wrong, because I still look like the rest of my family. It doesn’t seem like progress to me, especially since the hatred has increased exponentially. It’s extremely difficult to get any sort of medical treatment. Even the dentists want to lecture me about their favorite diet instead of filling my teeth. Maybe if fat people were actually able to get decent medical care, they would be healthier.
I had high expectations from this talk. None met. To summarise: diet and nutrition is subjective and there is no size that fits all. Rest, go figure.
NO! ce n’est pas le cerveav qvi dirige le corps mais l’inverse cad le micro6iome
Some parts of the brain actually need glucose to function. The liver will make that glucose when you’re not eating carbs so abruptly cutting out all sugar wouldn’t hurt you other than going through sugar withdrawals.
Absolutely!! It’s not a starvation diet, or a diet for that matter at all! You’re not denying yourself from eating, you are just simply delaying the process! I lost 73 lbs in 5 months with IF, IT DEFINITELY WORKS! Great video and points made
This is exactly what has been going on in my 80 year old body these past few years. Someone should study me. Intuitively by paying attention to my body I’ve been driven to a keto / carnivor lifestyle. No formal testing, just feedback from my body.
My brain, attitudes body have all responded so well.
Gary Taubes’ Good Calories, Bad Calories changed my life. A true hero in the low carb movement. A brilliant Harvard and Stanford educated investigator, journalist, who started out simply to learn more about why low carb was an issue.
Interesting to hear what the last guy was mentioning about specific lipid profiles. Since going much lower carb my HDL went very high, my triglycerides went very low but my cholesterol is very high. I am of normal weight, good blood pressure and I run. My own doctor did not seem to concerned. Gary Taubes is great.
Loved the lecture, thank you. Any idea why a female who followed a strict zero carb diet for well over 3 months would gain weight rapidly? Would it be due to a hormonal disorder/issue? It seems that would be the only reason… could I be wrong?
The calorie theory of weight loss is treated as though it is a logical consequence of the 2nd law of thermodynamics. But that is absolutely false. It is not true that the 2nd law of thermodynamics implies the calorie theory of weight loss (or of weight gain).
The title could be the same as the talk Gary gave in 2014, four years ago on YouTube Gary Taubes Why We Get Fat: The Diet/Weight Relationship, An Alternative Hypothesis. Many of the same slides as in this talk. Big Food and Big Pharma want to keep us fat and sick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEuIlQONcHw&t=13s
So basically we have a worldwide obesity and chronic disease because of anti German and anti Atkins bigotry? That’s just pathetic and tragic all in one.
Keto is a diet for the rich. Intermittent fasting with moderation while breaking fast is best… Keto diet wasn’t for me.
This guy knows exactly what he’s talking about. No one has thought about this more than Taubes. yeah, Gladwell types were exactly the problem educated upper middle class that didn’t fatten easily. They acted as examples that supported the low fat dogma. There was a strange affirmative elitism to it. Think Marion Nestle.
10 weeks on Keto, I Lost 25 pounds blood sugar back to normal off metformin, wish found Keto 10 years ago
Poor baby. I’ve followed, Mr. Taubes for years and he knows what he’s talking about. But, what a shame his personal feelings about Donald Trump will stop him from working with “this administration.” Yes, you know what you’re talking about when it comes to this subject, but you might want to stay out of politics. Mr.Taubes.
You look like you slept on that couch. Try wearing a nice shirt and shave.
Thank you so much to Dr. D’Agostino, you and your team to get me the access of wisdom and knowledge to live better and to be extraordinary. I wish you live forever:)
Wow does Gary have cancer. He lost a lot of weight. Low carb must be working for him.
In the 1950’s, welfare food assistance was little, & mostly was occasional box of nonfat dry milk powder, canned spam, & velvet a cheese.
Today’s welfare food is supposedly choice using food assistance, but, that fund is insufficient to buy nutrient-dense food; one can only afford poverty foods that are dominantly empty calories….
Bread became empty calories & a source of glyphosate residues, over 30 years ago. Commercial bread makers use a standard basic cellulose fluff dough, and add coloring, flavoring, etc. to make breads look special…but they aren’t. Not even the token few vitamins they are mandated to put back into it, is remotely enough.
Now, there’s a company that crowd-sourced a recipe to make a meal replacement of soy…which is also a source of gmo & glyphosate chemistry….and that company’s dream is to sell it to the welfare system in every State, to feed welfare recipients their “Soylent” as food, instead of giving out food funds.
The Soylent company thinks their formula would be healthier, & more cost-effective, than food stamps/EBT card funds.
Any wonder that welfare recipients are unhealthy?
Now, according to info in this video, maybe, making sure the poor had a ketone supplement, Might make better sense.
Great talk, great guy maybe next time don’t have him sit with the podium between himself and the camera and half the audience.
Actually, regarding the AIDS/HIV HYPOTHESIS, there have been many questions raised but they are being silenced…and I’m not talking about some radical conspiracy theory. There are basic tenets of science that are not met, but once the govt. said HIV is the cause, it became official. Please watch House of Numbers Documentary on YouTube…look up Joan Shenton & Peter Duesberg.
The logic is that 75% needed calories from polyunsaturated fats to drive the body to burn stored fat for the other 25%.
About right?
38:00 The stuff on Bauer triumphing over N. from 1941 to 1958 and then vanishing from the literature-never to be cited again until Taubes comes along is amazing. Blake Donaldson’s Strong Medicine was written in 1962, and he speaks as if he isn’t saying anything provocative when he says “Calorie counting is for the birds.” There was a point in the mid-20th century when the medical community understood and accepted hormones (not calories) as the driving force behind adiposity. Since then, American nutritional science has been nothing but researchers bowing and scraping before the marketing forces who co-opted the entire enterprise.
I love coffee. And I am addicted to coffee. Since keto I don’t like coffee anymore. It makes me to nervous!
It would be interesting to review research /use of hormones / antibiotics to fatten animals and how this can cross into our food. Also the role of the hypothalamus if there are differences in carb sensitive and non carb sensitive people.
I’ve lost alot of weight from intermittent fasting. I’m a mechanic not a doctor but the main points I’ve learned from my personal research is intermittent fasting causes an increased production of Bile from the Liver. Bile helps with digestion by breaking down fats. The More bile the more the pancreas also produces enzymes for digestion. Thats why bowel movements are intense, smelly and oily. High bile production leads to water loss in the body. If not properly hydrated headaches can occur. Also fasting reduces insulin resulting in your body burning fat instead of storing it. Adding apple cider Vinegar and green tea to the fast enhances this process significantly.
*Thanks for the Great video lesson!
I live in an asian country for 10 years…. when I arrived, women where thin-skinny as teenage girls, you could hardly see a difference, now women are fat as fuck, not all of them (yet) and girls are getting obese… pesticides, kfc, sugar laden drinks, 7/11, macDeath…
what is thi…and why oh why did i click on this shit…?……….KETO On folks…..it works.
Very well spoken…. congratulations…..keep up the good work…….. greetings form Mexico……( the country who sadly is number one in the consumption of sugary drinks) ignorance and poverty are the main causes for this
Love your current look (hair cut and beard.) Loved your brief political dig, amen. But, I ‘m struggling to understand how knee surgery leads to weight loss??? Most people gain weight with immobility. Please tell??
He used to be surrounded by hostiles. He would be the only one in the room talking like this. His only friend at the time might be Atkins.
This guy is brilliant! Thanks Gary. As an aside, does anyone else think Gary is starting to look a bit like Trent Gowdy with the additional weight loss he has had?
you can’t just show up with a t-shirt and not mentioning where we can get it. you’re mean.
I want what sold to the government military.
They expect results.
They are working on the government guidelines for nutrition again we need to get them to change it if you were working with keto and have a good experience we all need to tweet about it etc. save our government a lot of money save us a lot of taxes and a lot of money for illnesses please Tom see if you can get Dom A’gostino to get involved they’re working with the guidelines on July 11 please notify your congressman and do everything you can to keep people from being sick on the sad diet
All the “doctors” and “dieticians” and “medical field” for decades didn’t even know how the human biochemistry system worked.
This talk was super informative and helpful. It’s so frustrating when some people keep forcing their idea of a silver bullet on others when it comes to health and nutrition. We’re all different in all other aspects of life, so it just makes sense that we’re different in what works or doesn’t work for us in terms of diet and exercise, too.
Present government doesnt beleive in climate change…big oil…big coal..big$$$. Why would they beleive new reseach on obesity…big food..big drug big $$$. HmmmNot Donald hes not that kinda guy. To him health is more important than $$$ lol.
Interesting points about longevity. Andy Galpin says around min 33:00 someone with strong legs and high VO2 max and overweight is likely to outlive a skinny unfit person.
What happens though, if the overweight person is losing his fitness, which takes only 6 weeks of inactivity?
It takes years for someone to lose fat ( not water weight like during diets)
The down votes baffle me. I thought that was a legit interview.
That conventional thinking was based on athlete’s bodies…high carb for energy burning works great for them…and it prevents the rest of us from ever becoming athletes…
Its not a belief system that is the problem its the fact that selling high calorie dense processed foods is profitable and treating the disease is profitable. There is no problem, in fact there are many people successfully earning a living on selling pleasure rich foods and treating diseases of excess.
I am 52 and I fell into depression eating crap like donuts and breads, I got overweight and got more depressed then last September I realised how fat I got. I got onto Keto just before Christmas. I have lost weight, I am coming out of depression I have lots of energy and I have never experienced such mental clarity as I have since Keto and increasing MCT oil intake. Although I miss bread now and then, I have no interest in sweets any more and I do not crave sugar. Since I have increased my Apple Cider Vinegar and Zinc I have lost more
That was an excellent talk, thank you so much, 2 Keto Dudes, for posting it.
It IS possible to stop chilren from eating junk foodParents must SYOP buying these for them. At PTA meetings, parents must halt all sales of junk food. It can be done if parents realise the damage it is doing to their child’s health. Pack lunches will be a good idea and do not give their kids pocket money without monitoring what they buy with it. Yes, all hospitals throughout the world have these small shops that sell magazines, snacks and newspapers plus a plethora of soft drinks and a variety of sweets, chocolates and candies. We have them in every hospitals in Malaysia too. At the National Heart Inst of Malaysia, one can buy these same stuff. Patients who can walk to these shops and canteens eat very unhealthy foods and top it down with sugary juices and beverages. without batting an eyelid. If they can’t fo themselves, visitors are more than willing to oblige. No body stops them. If only security guards are given the authority to apprehend these patients,
I’ve been doing keto for 2 and 1/2 years. I started because I wanted to lose a little weight but I’ve stuck with it and intend to stick with it for the rest of my life because I’ve never felt better. I feel physically and mentally energetic, clear, and alive in a way that I haven’t before. I fell off the wagon twice for about a month or two and went back to eating regular food and felt foggy, lethargic, anxious and bloated. I realized I could never go back to that full time again. It’s keto for life for me. It’s just a no-brainer I feel so amazing and I eat such delicious food it’s not a hard diet to stick to now that how to cook and eat this way has become second nature.
Excercise does NOT aid weight loss, many studies have clearly demonstrated that but it does have other biochemical benefits.
Thanks Aseem, good outline of some important facts… Doctors look at it as Too many Calories In, Too little Exercise Out, when they should look at their own failure of not recognizing it as a “Fat Accumulation Disorder” and diagnose it as such. Evidence now shows that like any growth defect, obesity is primarily a “Response”, not a “Cause”. No amount of a bad diet or exercise will cure it.
70 Going On 100 … the Centenarian Diet … maybe 70 Going On 128 … the Hayflick Limit, … or if a fan of Ray Kurzweil … then this is all a Moot Point.
