Currently im following a routine to build muscle and burn fat. In the morning, im performing strength exercises (squats, push ups) in a fasted state and having 35g of whey protein mixed with water. In the evening im performing home cardio, 10 to 12 reps of burpees for about 6 to 8 sets. Im having my dinner after this. My goal is to lose my body fat and build lean muscle.

Hey professor I have got one question. During the las two years I have been drinking 2 smoothies per day. One for breakfast and another one after my workout at 9 pm. For the last 4 months I have been getting up to go to toilet every single night,even in some occasions more than once, which has given me a lot of sleep problems. In order to try to change that have switched my 2 smoothie to lunch time, which means I don’t drink any protein both before and after my workout, as I always do it in the late afternoon/ evening because my job. Am I missing out in potential gains,since don’t drink any protein before and after my workout???? Yeah, I too am guilty of jumping from diet plan to others as well, I do believe that I need to have tried every single fat loss method that was available, but eventually not one of them helped me to reduce and keep the weight off. I ended up trying for the very last time with the Custokebon Secrets simply because my mate who told me unbelivable things about it and so far to date I have successfully dropped 18 pounds within 3 weeks!

Dr Mike I’m a 52-year-old girl bodybuilder here in China. I’m on 140g a day minimum to grow muscle and ward off the sarcopenia. The goal is an awesome physique at competitor level without actually competing ( I hate the dangerously low body fat requirements). How does this number sit with you? All the calcs seem to be for young men. Not older female bodybuilders so need more protein for us. Also I think in general fit healthy and interesting individuals like myself are overlooked as the world still has an outdated age discrimination negative bias that needs shattering given the 100 year life I am sure you are aware of in the medical literature. I’m trying to make some YT and my Insta shows how wrong, and outdated most people’s ideas are on women my age. OT rant over but yeah we need some support!! Maybe you can do a video on this topic?? Bro I done cut from 210-185 and now I am going to try this out to reach my goal of 175. The first 3 weeks were the hardest I ate 2-3 meals a day and anywhere from 1,000-1,500 calories a day and only lost 3 pounds while doing heavy weight training and 5sets of 45 push-ups and 45 squats for a cool down but once I got past the 3rd week weight started to melt off and i felt way better. though out my whole time dieting for the past 6 weeks I drank no sodas, no sports drinks, no candy, no chips and hardly any bread and it was so tempting to quit after the 3rd week to quit because of how much I was sacrificing and to barely see any results but I decided to kept my head down and kept going it eventually I got over that hill and everything losing weight was 10x easier.

Hmmm… saw this as a recommendation. So, I’m lean/slim athletic built. I don’t want a “gain”, or trying to get bigger since I like the slim/athletic build that I have. I just don’t want o be fat.:)) So,what’s the best protein powder to keep lean muscle and stave or hunger pains? I do take fat burner supplement just to give me extra boost for my work outs daily.:) My work out: band works( for arms, several, planks arm curls, side arm lifts, front arm lifts) ab work( on floor leg lifts, on back leg crunches, ab wheel) stretches. Final work out, 40 min cardio (elliptical machine.) I’m very discipline in my eating, snack in moderation(satisfy that craving). I’m 53, can’t believe how much good shape I’m in at 5’9″. Always had that athletic/chest build though and younger look (genes) ;o). Been trial and error, but working out since literally April 1992. Have been in 180’s And I was close to mid 20’s.

Im heading into day 3 and have had one smoothie and multiple gallons of water(daily intake of 1.5 to 2.5 gallons) on top of a couple of protein shakes to keep some type of energy. I’ll do it until June 5th or so. Hopefully I’ll lose more fat than muscle on top of doing this firefighting training.
The biochemistry behind this is similar to the keto diet (although the milk and protein would give more carbs than the max for keto). The body will first break down it’s sugar reserves, and this would be done in a day or two. Then, the body would begin to fall into ketosis as it tries to keep up with the caloric demand. The body will switch from breaking down mostly carbs and sugars to making sugar from extra amino acids as well as making ketone bodies for quick energy. This is why he said he was light headed while deadlifting and almost fainted. When ketone bodies, proteins, and amino acids are broken down they will create acidic molecules in the body. The increase in the acidity of the blood is raised more by the formation of lactic acid during workouts. The acid makes the bodily processes less efficient and can lead to acidosis which probably caused the light headedness. The unfortunate truth of this is he broke down most all of his fat reserves, and started breaking down proteins, some from muscle, which helped him lose more weight. This can be “healthy” in small time-frames but his body wasn’t receiving adequate vitamins with his protein unless he was also taking a vitamin supplement during this time (which could have speeded up his fat loss while helping to keep more muscle). If he continued this protein shake diet for another week or longer, his body would be much more lean as he shows only after one week, but it would also show signs of muscle loss, confusion as his brain gets less and less energy, and more muscle soreness as his muscles are broken down releasing proteins and byproducts into the blood. Interesting experiment with a diet, but the body needs some carbs fats, vitamins and minerals protein powder doesn’t have to minimize muscle loss in this diet. I am a Biochemist and molecular biologist, but to make sure I am correct on everything, make sure you do your own research as well! Awesome to see the results though!

electrolytes are very important when going into ketosis. when the glycogen buffers in the muscles are running low, then the water that is bound with it gets flushed out and takes electrolytes with it. i would suggest to take “snake juice”. that helps with low energy

Stop eating carbs. Is easy if you know what to eat and can cook well. Once you get used to it….gets easy. I used to weigh over 220 and have been able to hover around 150 for 20 years now by just not eating bread type products and pasta very often. I drink the hxx outta regular soft drinks too. Eat lots of candy…chocolate etc. So basically no bread or pasta…i think it’s got to do with being wheat more than sugar

I’m on day 6 of the protein shake challenge and I’ve lost 15 lbs.
I was actually using a dial scale which was completely inaccurate.
I thought I was 240 lbs and currently at 225.
But when I weighed myself on the digital scale I was still 235 so as it turns out I was actually 250 lbs this whole time.
Right now I’m 230 and I’m frustrated that the dial scale to lied to me.
But I’m not giving up.

I did this with vegan protein powder and only drank 2 liters of water with added coffee to the diet and no working out ended up losing 17.4 lbs in 2 weeks. Doing it with non lactose milk and the protein powder with a cup of coffee or so my calories was sometimes 940 or 620 depending if i had 3 cups of it a day or 2 cups.

Idk if you ingested any electrolytes, but if not then a good portion of the weight lost was likely water weight. Not a bad thing though, just need to be wary of dehydration
