In larger concentrations, it could be found in meat and dairy products, especially whey protein, and to a lesser extent in wheat germ, brown rice, soybeans, almonds, cashews, peas, lentils, and corn. The reason why most BCAA supplements contain a greater amount of L-Leucine is that it has a higher oxidation rate than isoleucine and valine. Leucine is also the most critical branched-chain amino acid in the muscle building process and ignites protein synthesis. But, before you go Amazon shopping for a 4:1:1 BCAA, keep reading friend.Leucine is an essential amino acid (EAA) and cannot be synthesized within the body.
Potent dietary sources of leucine include meat, fish, dairy, soy, and nuts (15). According to data collected by the NHANES III (16) for 1994–1998, the population, on average, consumed 6.08 g leucine/d.Specifically, rats were fed a standard casein or casein plus free leucine diet over 40 days of recovery from a period of hindlimb immobilization. Is leucine better than HCL Creatine? If so I will replace the creatine.
I feel uncomfortable seeing him shout in a gym like that. But I give this guy props for his confidence!
does anyone know the supplement Dr. Stoppani is talking about?
Many studies are skewed based on funding bias. Please provide study citation.
same old crap from those companies. thanks to people like jim, their profits have been decreasing and the supplemnt industry is becoming more legit. unfortunately they will always be around and get away with it for as long as they can
Dude jim is getting heated somebody find him a bench press
, I think I might start taking pre jym if it’s available when my other stuff runs outs

Wonderful to see how the intensity of your voice rises as we get further into the video.
Once again, great video!
But too sad that your products aren’t available in Denmark, Europe, and sold only on BODYBUILDING.COM!!!
If you are taking already whey protein can you take leucine supplements to?

Very informative, bring on the truth doc! I was wondering what you think of the novel new addition to pre workout supplements called Agmatine sulfate? Also, what do you think about silk amino acids? This info could really help the public! Thanks!
Where is the science?! Link articles or your video is useless
If someone was missing the amino acid Leucine, what genetic condition do you think they would have?
Very nice video, I subd and left 1 big Like.. visit my channel and let’s support each others..
How exactly you will have increased tryptophan->serotonin (and possibly melatonin as it is the final neurotransmitter on this pathway) while you training WHILE your epinephrine will be high?????Epinephrine increass during high intensity training.
Bca’s put you into ketogenesis you body feeds off from it’s own fat not the bcaas
Jim, I know this was an old publication but the truth is still the same, That, Science is today called Cheque Book Science. A company goes to the scientists and say: “This is what we want you to find, here’s $50,000. We’ll come back in a months time”.
BCAA is a scam. You need the whole protein profile to synthesize any protein.
PreJYM pre-workout and PreJYM plus 5g Leucine post-workout. Thoughts?
You have all my trust and support, haters will hate and “fake supplements” will always be on the market but thanks to you we are all being informed about the REAL deal. I took 2 weeks off from using PreJym….well it was the crappiest time of my life in the gym! This tells me your products WORK and give results. I’ve been on Alpha Jym for a week now and feel some positive changes already.
Sick video Bro, I think Leucine is definitely coming onto the scene more now.
What program did you use to edit the vid??
Just subed GEEZZ.
Great work in the video just subbed U, If you have time can U go check out my channel & sub me. THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT & MOTIVATION TO KEEP PUSHING FORWARD!!!!!!
I could feel the difference after the first time I mixed it with my post-workout. Even felt the difference the next morning.
oh god i WISH pre jym was only $34!! Up here in Canada, it’s almost 50!
I do a fasted AM workout with weights and cardio, and BCAAs are a game-changer for me. I have more energy and endurance during workout. I eat 2 balanced meals with at least 100+g of protein 2-3 hrs after and end up with better muscle recovery and retention. Btw, I’m 57 yo and post-menopausal so more muscle means higher metabolism.
subbed!!cool channel I love the leucine on nitro tech at the moment glad that has leucine in it
I pay less than 70 for a pound of great quality pure branch chained aminos and lucine. None GMO no additives micro filtered if i want too. Last nearly half a year i take it 4 times a day. 60 bucks for just a month Lucien is deff taking advantage of the fitness community.
youtube tip number #215: dont eat a Philly cheese steak sandwich right before your shoot
love the information you’re providing in your videos! great stuff! ive subscribed
leucine doea not cost 70 dollars per 20 servings. that is a rediculous claim on like 9 different levels.
Thank god he’s not doing any product placement or have any advertisement plastered on his cloths
I get all of my protein from plants and dairy… I am ripped and lean as fuck. I don’t care what anyone says, vegetarians can build amazing muscles. The secret: dairy. Milk is the highest natural source of leucine, not only that but the protein in milk breaks down into signalling peptides, which stimulate muscle-growth like none other! Milk is the most anabolic substance on Earth. Whole-milk and a low-fat starch-based diet to bulk… and skim-milk and a low-fat starch-based diet to cut… BOOM, you’re golden boi!
“I didn’t get my phd in the mail” I LOL’d. It doesn’t get any better than the jym product line.
Wait so BCAA’s aren’t a scam like half the people I know have told me?
Restaurant impossible chef robert Irvine takes leucine injection in his arms
Love this, great facts buddy so much rubbish and misinformation out there.
Only that carbohydrates (the healthy ones) do not cause insulin resistance.Lack of exercise MOSTLY influence insulin resistance.
How much grams of leucine does one have to consume daily for optimal muscle growth? Is there a study on that?
is mTOR not kinda the CANCER promoting and leucine stimulates mTOR as opposite of fasting
Curious to see what company was saying all this.. I had an opportunity to become a big time supplement company rep but turned them down cause I could NOT be apart of their company because what jim has taught me.. thanks doc!!!
It’s kinda cute how you get so flustered about manipulated science. I love watching your videos, I always learn something. I love pre jym, and you’re always my go-to for information on supps. Just wanted to give some love!
I owe you a lot dr stoppani. My wife wouldn’t allow be to use supplements until I showed her testimony from someone credible about their safety and benefits. She did her homework on you and now she does not question anything you say nor do I.
Finally someone is confronting the bullshit supplement industry. Keep it up. Like ur supps. Use to take almost exactly what’s in prejym but as separate ingredients for years but such a headache. Now just take prejym. I like the convenience and it works
Been using branched aminos for years now including L tyrosine NEVER experienced energy. Just incredible recovery and fastest muscle gain. L carnitine and L argenine is the only aminos that gives me incredible pump and energy and its dirt cheap for good quality too. I never buy these from GNC or in small expensive tubs. Even at 30 dollars it would be incredibly over priced.
if leucine spikes insulin should I take it on the ketogenic diet???
Thank god you cleared this up, have been supplementing with leucine pre workout for a few years now then read what AML said a few weeks ago and was pretty confused as to where this was all coming out of. great video, by the way you tattoos are badass
This is exactly why I exclusively use Jym products. I’m sick of being lied to, wasting my money, and compromising my body with shit products. Thank you Jim for all you are doing. We need all the help we can get. Jym Army!
Hey man, some great info right there!Liked and subscribed! If you could check out my channel would be great! Thanks!
Hey Jim, Just a heads up… On GNC, the overall reviews on the listing page ( http://www.gnc.com/Sports-Nutrition/Pre-Workout/family.jsp?categoryId=3984282&categoryId=3984282&fg=Brand&ff=PAD&fv=Brands%2FJym&fd=Jym&page=1&) does not match the product reviews for each product. It shows a very lower score.
gave you a sub brother! Love these videos man! Keep them coming. The information is great, and I actually watch a lot of videos like these on the daily lol. Very professional:)
this is seriously why i absolutely love this guy’s supplements. He knows his shit better than most of these bullshit companies. Yes his products are a bit spend but you get what you pay for.
everything in this video is wrong, you need all 9 of the eaa’s to benefit from it
well i also study biochemistry and the problem with branch chain amino acids is because they can block the tryptophan they can also cause depression because they take up tryptophans spot so the serotonin is lowered so its a double edge sword.you can either take branch chain amino acids and get good muscles and be a bit down or depressed or dont take it be happy but not get the muscle building benefits.if it was me wanting to build muscle id just eat eggs.eggs have certain acids that increase testosterone and build muscle faster than any supplement.eggs truly are the king of bodybuilding foods without eggs in your diet forget weight training thats how important eggs are i ate 3 eggs a day for 2 months and my testosterone actually doubled it was insane to see such a result from eggs alone.
Thanks for fighting the good fight, Jim! A lot of us appreciate a guy like you.
Great video bro seen ur comment on my page just subbed h number 55
The guy talks so slow I had to put the speed of the video to 1.5 speed.
Dr. Jim, is there a preferred dosage? I’m talking minimum and more importantly maximum dosage? I do take BCAA’s pre workout, but I buy leucine in bulk for post workout and mix the powder with my shake. I know everyone is different, but I figured you would be the best person to ask.
So if you take l leucine, and it activates mTor, Which open up the cells to receive the protein…..MEANS nothing if we don’t have adequate protein right?
You deserve 1 million subscribers
Keep goin you are helping a lot of people
If you take the free form powder l-leucine it will be insoluble in water because it is a nonpolar amino acid. I suggest taking leucine with whole fat milk.
Please develope some type of supplement geared toward the Military. Long missions, calorie burning during extreme ruck trails in Afghanistan or cold training in Alaska. Arctic MRE’s are too carb high. Maybe a water mixable powder. Easy to consume and benefits the mission.
can you take this product if you are doing a cut for a show and if you are on a low carb diet?
Although I don’t think I am overdosing, are there any health dangers or symptoms r/t leucine?
Leucine cost more like 20$ for 20 servings, not 70$, that’s waaaayy too much
I like how you rant around Dr, because it shows your passion. Science and Passion behind JYM that’s why I tried JYM and I totally recommended.
You should buy your leucine from Europe. It’s $50/Kg over here. I don’t know how much you are taking for a ‘serving’ but $34 for twenty “servings’ is stupid. Labs here recommend that you take 2-5g for ‘acute’ usage, so that 200 500 servings for $50 ; or $0.2 to $0.5 per serving if you are taking large amounts. I hardly think that a company charging $35 or $70 a tub for 20 servings of sugar and leucine will find that too expensive, especially since they will be buying in bulk and so getting it a lot cheaper than $50 per kilo.
Hello sir
What is the best time to use leucine intraworkout or after the workout as i take 5gms of glutamine post workout wid whey protein..??
Obviously, Doc is pissed off.
Respect to Jim for debunking myths!: )
Hey man just came across your channel and I really gotta say that it’s hooked me, I like this kind of content and it’s on your channel, so what I did was I subscribed and liked automatically bro haha! Hope you can do the same and we can support each other and grow together. Because with mutual support we can motivate each other, we can stimulate each other to keep pumping out content! What do you say?
Thank u Dr. Jim for the real information. The only trusted man
So does Leucine directly help build muscle, or is it Leucine activating mTOR that causes the increase in muscle? I know if you are lacking one amino during protein synthesis, production will stop. That is why I am wondering why I would specifically only want to supplement with Leucine, and not just supplement all of my amino acids. I have even seen videos on Youtube explicitly saying to not take amino acids, and only supplement leucine. Anyways great video! Hopefully, you can help me out!
i get 12510mg of leucine per 2000cal of my meal replacement shake:) ( not a supplement ) and i have 3500kcal of it every day and i get no muscle pains cramps or anything and strength is always rising, people need to be educated on this amino acid more in the workout community
Ok so what if you did a south beach diet for a week followed by 3 day fast followed by Adkins diet? Would this not be the perfect combination? You’re loading up on things that help elevate ketosis under the fasting while reducing actual glucose already prepping your body for ketosis prior to the fast. Then the Adkins after the fast helps your body readjust to food intake following the fast.
Hi Dr. Stoppani. I have done your shortcut to shred program before: results were stellar! I need more pre workout and protein. I will be purchasing your supplements. Also, I usually only take pre workout on low repetition days. Is this a good idea? Please advise.
Just subscribed I like this guy look him up he knows what he’s talking about!
You’ve got to get to the point and address the subject of leucine efficiently. I feel like addressing the criticism of other brands/companies vs bringing direct and useful information is low value. How many people care about the truth about Leucine vs some claim by a new company on the block? 14 mins is too long, you could have condensed this into 5 and instantly increased the value to your viewers. Love your products and I loved your workout plan on bodybuilding.
Love your philosophy on testing supplements out yourself instead of just relying on science and studies
Can somebody tell me which company hes talking about? Im curious
I take a protein supplement in the morning, before training, after training, and later at night. Aren’t I getting enough BCAA’s through my daily protein consumption?
This is why I only take your products. you are the people’s supplement company. It’s funny your now even starting to see companies like nutrex and such coming out with supplements based around your formulas
This guy has been talking so long that the protein shake on the table has settled back into layers, water on the top protein product on the bottom.
He was not wrong about he’s going to ramble. This could have been great if he’d just gotten to the points.
Even before this video i’ve noticed:
before i would yawn and “fatigue” quit often in the gym in the first 15 mins
now (while taking PreJym) I don’t yawn AT ALL… and before i know it, 2 hours have passed and i’m still killing it and want more, but reality hits me that i have to get home and prepare for work…
after watching this video, it all makes sense to me now.
Thanks for the video.
Is the mTOR signaling for muscle synthesis goes only for skeletal muscles or also to skin, tendons, ligaments…? Please does anybody knows?
Also, is dairy a good source of protein? I have heard there is a lot of leucine in cottage cheese which i eat almost daily.
5- 6:00 min: Apparently it is correct that leucine taken before exercises are being used as fuel and hence spare our glycogen deposits. This concept makes exercises rather expensive and for the most of us (for whom economy is not unimportant) it clearly is not a proper concept.
NB: I do believe there is a proper use of leucine in the reconstitutional phase after work out.
Hey mike! What would you advice for a transgender person who wants to be more manly? Basically, how do you rise testosterone the most in womens bodies? I don’t know if your interested in this topic but any kind of answer would probably help
Sick educational and informative vids man! keep up the good work and the videos coming subscribed and liked to support be cool if you could do the same
Can we add leucine to bcaa powder to get more leucine? What do you recommend
This video probably contains good information but this mic is annoying the hell out of me. It needs a pop filter. Or just don’t talk directly into it… Every time you say a P, B, T or D the air from your mouth enters the mic and makes this very annoying, unprofessional sound. That combined with the obvious fact that you didn’t draw the video kinda makes it sketchy and doesn’t feel trustworthy. I’m sure that’s not the case, but I’m just keeping it real.
Any time I ever added leucine to my stack I noticed the effect of it. I could feel more power in my workouts. You really do have to try things out for yourself and be skeptical of so called research.
When some protein brands list it as leucine or L leucine is it different? I know the ” L can make a big difference or example carnitine and l carnitine are very different. Approaching I’m currently drinking The protein I’m currently drinking has 3,140 mg of leucine,is that enough?
Just to add fuel to the fire since you seem to be going in that direction the true building blocks of the body are the atoms that make up the molecules of the proteins of the special types that you mention.
So, he’s putting down a supplement company but sits with his supplement right in front of hm. I would shy away from this guy.
Actually I don’t know about the whole signaling cascade I was just today for the first time encountering loosing in my introductory biology course.:-(
I wanted to find out more because it seemed like a very flexible molecule.
Was this guy high during this interview or is that just his sparkling personality
Hi I just subbed please sub back to my channel so we can support each other. If you leave a comment on my last video so I know you have subscribed I will be sure to turn on notifications and watch your future videos:)
I cannot wait until i have a salary and i can just buy jym supplements regularly
Whats crazy is that the product doesn’t look THAT bad… but $70? That’s insane. And the prop. blends… that pisses me off.
I rather hear this guy’s over the other douchebag from the internet
In my opinion EAAs are even better. You cant build muscle without EAAs and BCAAs are contained within EAAs.
I train fasted and you said leucine breaks your fast so which is it?
You are my personal hero. Subbed. I always thought vegan and vegetarians have a hard time, but it seems that the best leucine sources are plants. Lol.
Can you actually build muscle tissue in a deficit? In even a moderately trained individual, I don’t believe it is possible to do. Please correct me if I’m wrong. (no bro science please)
