This is great. I took a traditional ashtanga class, and I did okay. But I would like to learn and practice sun salutations before I go again and not look like a complete newb. However, I can’t get to sun salutation A??? The video is set to private.
Please pronounce tadasana correctly. It is Taadaasana, not tadasana. The sanskrit requires correct pronunciation!

Hi Adriene, thanks so much for the lesson. I have two simple questions: 1. While in up dog, are the only things touching the floor the hands and feet, or are the lower legs also on the floor? and 2. After up dog, it seems typical to flip right back into down dog, but with cobra, one releases to the floor first, then rises up into plank and back into down dog, is this correct? This is not surya namaskar. First two steps are wrong. Also the last two steps. Dont modify ancient tradition with one as u wish. indians have been performing this for thousands of years.
My special Ed students are benefitting from sun salutations. I learned this more than 15 years ago and my body remembers every step like I just learned it. My 7-10 year olds with behavior issues really need this. All schools should begin day with ashtanga yoga! Namaste

Oh Hampi, so beautiful. Sadly I didn’t do any yoga there. I met a nepalese guy who smuggled Old Monk Rum in for us and we did that instead. I’ve no regrets, there’s plenty of time for yoga and plenty of time for rum. Although now I prefer yoga.

I am sorry, I dont think what you are doing is really Surya Namaskar. Please check with the traditional yogic schools in India. You may find physical goodness by modifying the old processes but I wish you should not get any negative effects in the subtle body. Thanks!

For all the peoples dont learn from these. Search soorya namaskaram. One man with dhoti will be performing. That is the real surya namaskar. In this video, if doing first two steps wrong. Also in the third step if should bring right foot back, not both. It ll hurt the spine.

I found myself by doing yoga. Iam happy I do YOga. I do it every day in the morning sometimes in the afternoon and sometimes in the evening. I want to learn to eat like a Yogi Thart would be good thing to do since I’m a Yogi. Iam going to do Yoga every day and Iam infact doing it every day. see ya later. This video is great. I do not appreciate you mentioning that you can use your knees if you lack arm strength. There are so many other parts of the Sun Salutes that are hard for me, but I have arm strength, though I’ve heard that possibility about one thousand times. Please give other types of hints for people who can’t do a correct sun salute, but who have arm strength.

My hands doesn’t touch the floor when I bend down. What should I do?
Just one simple suggestion: when you start, instead of starting right at the front of the mat, you may leave about one-thirds of the mat in front of you, and about two-thirds behind you. Then you would find that your students, who may not do it perfectly, will also be on the mat throughout surya namaskar.

● अब आँखें बंद करके दोनों भौहों के बीच आज्ञाचक्र पर ( जहाँ तिलक या बिंदी लगाते हैं ) गुरुदेव के चित्र को याद करके मन ही मन ( बिना होंठ जीभ हिलाए ) निरन्तर ‘संजीवनी मंत्र’ का 15 मिनिट तक मानसिक जाप करते रहे, इस दौरान अपनी आँखें बंद रखें।
● ध्यान के दौरान किसी भी प्रकार की यौगिक क्रिया ( आसन, बंध, मुद्रा व प्राणायाम आदि ) अथवा विशेष अनुभूति होने पर उन्हें रोकने का प्रयास न करें, डरे घबराए नहीं व उन्हें सहज में होने दें।
● ये यौगिक क्रियाएँ तन मन व आत्मा की शुद्धि के लिए मातृशक्ति कुण्डलिनी स्वयं अपने नियंत्रण में करवाती है।

You didn’t mention about breathing technique, in which posture to inhale and exhale, could you update on that pls.

Ok… I have dropped off the exercising since I switched up my diet. I went from Paleo to the autoimmune protocol to try to discover some possible food sensitivities. I’ve learned so much since then (1-5-14) and stayed doing some Zumba with my Xbox one. My hips have gotten extremely tight so I did your hip opener video. Well it lead me to this video and I said…why not!? It’s been a while. I knew the basic idea of the moves but figured since I hadn’t done anything in a while it’d be difficult. But anything worth doing is usually a challenge in some way or another. It turned out…I did this better than I ever did. I kept up and while it wasn’t easy it was so much more rewarding. Then I did it with you without instruction and even though I was a moment behind at times….I did it. I often get down because I have thyroid issues and still plenty of weight to lose. Its taken me 6 months to lose 10 pounds and I eat cleaner than anyone I know. I haven’t had soda in over a year and two months and 11 days. I work so hard with rarely a scale reward. But being able to do this I realized I am healing and I am being rewarded. I have tears of joy in my eyes. So I wanted to share a heartfelt thank you. Internet hugs Namaste.
