Sir i had acl surgery 2 year back and i want to try for Armed Forces..is it possible for me to get back to normal knee now???
Need your help sir! I tore my ACL in July 2018. It is 14th February 2019 as I post this comment. My reports indicated that I have a partial tear in my ACL. As of this day, I can do brisk walk, jump rope, hop on one leg (with my injured leg), climb stairs without surgery although I haven’t been able to go back to normal yet and by that I mean to say that my knee isn’t fully functional yet. I can not sprint,do agility work or intense workout. My doctor suggests me to undergo reconstruction if I have to go back to sports. Is surgery necessary in my case? Can I go back to sports without surgery?
It was 7 months, strong recovery, hard physical therapy and gym almost everyday working all parts of the body. Had a brace and did a slight movement. Think I tore my acl and meniscus this time
This video is very informative.
I’ve just done my surgery last week
I tore my ACL climbing, i was doing bouldering and i fell from 4 meters… I decided to have surgery, but I am very scared about going back on the wall because falling is part of the sport (in bouder you have no rope)… even watching competition so professional athletes i completely freak out when i see them falling…. probably this is due to the fact that i really considered myself as “unbreakable”… but i was super wrong, a bad landing from an unexpected fall and here I am 35 days post surgery and 3 months post injury
I had my ACL surgery 11 months back i could sprint but I couldn’t run slow. I have little pain when i am slowly running and I couldn’t sit on the floor fully bended the knee

Great video! I am just about 6 months post surgery with a hamstring graft and very happy with where I’m at. I feel like I am very close to returning to soccer, best advice i’ve got for anybody who has yet to go through this process would be to listen to your body!
I had my surgery just over 6 months ago (complete tear of ACL and meniscus). Today I ran 10k in 50 minutes. Not confident enough to be playing football/Soccer again though. Still aches, swells and feels unstable. Aiming to play some football next month.
Well I had the LCA reconstruction last week and I’m already with fear to train again and I’m not Even ready for It.
I know I’ll make it with baby steps, but I’m afraid to reach and overpass the Athletic point where I was when I injured.
Sir partial tear of ligament injury is necessary to do surgery… Plz answer me

I have full mobility and strength is going really well. doctors are amazed with my recovery but I am afraid there is something im missing. Should I keep going? or take a step back? I do all football drills with a knee brace and have minimal swelling after 2h+ practice. Thanks

I tore my ACL in October in a soccer game. And I waited 4 months to go to a doctor and I got surgery the 16th of February, I got meniscus surgery and my ACL. I don’t fear anything, but it’s but 5 weeks almost since my surgery and I still feel pain in my meniscus, is that normal or does that mean it’s healing?

I’m here because I’m afraid of Carson Wentz returning to football and being as great as he was.
Great video sir.
Due to medico-legal concerns and the sheer number of questions I receive from these videos, I can no longer answer questions left in the comments. If you have a medical issue and would like more information, go to https://www.drdavidgeier.com/resources/ for other ways I can help you.
I had acl surgery before 6months now again im started my soccer training also but my leg is skidding while playing im so sad about it…..

Hi I’m from india i had acl surgery.it has been 6 months but some time i feel pain in my knee,is it normal please tell me
It’s been 20 days since my surgery and I’m still wearing my Knee supporter (90 degrees ext.). I’m back at work and walking on my own with no pain. I do my own rehab exercises given to me by my trainer and I feel really good about my recovery. The swelling has decreased drastically and I am close to getting full extension when I remove the supporter. Doing squats and lunges at the moment.
Sir, chinmay from india I had acl surgery before 2 years still Iam not able to run properly.it swells & pains a lot.Iam under training bboy sir what would u suggest for me??
Hey! So I just retire my acl yesterday and would be my third time… I haven’t gotten an MRI because it’s swollen and I asked my therapist how long I should wait and he said 4 days…
Realistically do you think my career in sports or not even career but to actually be active is over??
Do you know any athletes who have overcome 3 acl injuries? Same knee by the way.
I’m devastated because I worked hard in therapy and I would have to do it all over again.. I feel like it’s torn for sure just because it’s really painful and I can’t even bend my knee backwards but an MRI is my best option. Thank you for this video!
I had acl surgery 10-10-17. I used to play competitive soccer and it was part of my life style. Now ive beem doing some reaserch to see when will i be able to play again. Based on the info ive been seeing/watching. I think im going to wait about a full year. Because supposly now and days is safe to wait 9 months but for every 1 month you wait, adds 50% of reducing reinjuring your acl. Based on the studies if you wait a full year your chances of re tearing your acl is reduced to less than 10 percent. Another study says if you RTS before 6 months your chances of re injuring are 33% to even 50%. I think its safe to say that the longer you wait the better. Also alot has to do with how strong you physically. Sadly i will wait a year but ill say after 8 months i will start trainning with my friends again.
Hello all! I had my ACL and meniscus reconstruction 28 days ago, and so far I am able to walk without crutches and walk easily up and down stairs! MY physio has helped a lot as I have physio 3 hours each day and I always ice a lot. If you believe in your self and work hard to recover, anything is possible. Remember, after 28 days I am able to walk up stairs without crutches and even swim and go to the beach smoothly, all the best to all!
I didn’t have surgery yet because my growth plate haven’t closed yet so im waiting
3 weeks post surgery today. Hamstring graft and meniscus trim because it wasn’t repairable. I am able to walk and climb stairs and have started box squats to stop my leg blowing away in the wind. I have full extension and can just about manage hyperextension (slight pain) with I’d say 120-130 degree flexion.
Nerve and calf pain is the worst part for me.
I can already cycle and hope to jog at 3 month mark.
Good luck everyone. Listen to your body and take it easy. Ice should be your best friend
My kneecap moves a little bit when I bend the leg. I feel like the knee is moving a muscle and it pops a little bit! I’m in the second week after ACL reconstruction
I had ACL Surgery as well as Meniscus, and I am officially back into full out training for gymnatics exactly one year after my surgery. HOWEVER I was doing A LOT of workouts for the sport at 7-8 months Just not full out
I tore my acl and mcl, combined with severe cartilage damage and a bruised meniscus on December 6, 2015 during a basketball game. Surgery followed on the 23th of december and after 7 months of rehab, I returned to playing high competitive basketball. Scans showed that the knee was indeed healed and my doctor and physical therapist cleared me for playing again. But after 3 weeks into pre-season, I re-injured that same knee again, tearing my acl and meniscus on August 19, 2016, without any symptoms. Fed up about the re-injury, I took some time of and eventually had a second acl reconstruction on February 1th. Now, after 7,5 months, I’m still rehabbing, struggling greatly against swelling but even more, struggling mentally. Scans already shown everything is structurally fine, even though I still experience pain caused by swelling. Are there any kind of tricks or tips you can teach to stimulate the rehab proces mentally?
It’s been a little over 6 months since my acl recon surgery. I’m mostly doing strength and agility exercises at the gym. I’ve also been playing light pick-up basketball for a month now. I can say that I’m about 70% in my recovery. The biggest challenge, i guess, is just getting the strength back in all the muscles around the knee. It’s a slow process that requires so much patience and discipline.
I’m two days post op using the hamstring graft and my leg feels like a ton.
after how much time i will start walking again as my University classes are missing….
I just had an ACL reconstruction with a patellar graft a couple of days ago. I can walk without crutches and with virtually no pain. I’ve been told that cycling and hiking help the recovery process a great deal. Is this true? If yes, by when sshould one consider getting back to this? I like being outdoors and I’d really like to get back to hiking asap. Thank you.
I tore my ACL 4 years ago and when I have the slightest pain in my other knee I, without a doubt, convince myself I’ve torn my other ACL. I have a huge fear of reinjury that has stuck with me for too long.
I ruptured my ACL while dancing in May… I just surgery using patellar tendon on June 11th. Recovery has been going super well physically, but mentally… I don’t know if I can ever do the tricks and jumps like I used to. I’m scared to re-injure or worse, tear my ACL on my good knee.
Thank you for your videos. I’m more open with my PT about my concerns and we are working on a plan to ease my worry. Again, thank you.
When can i go back to sports after my surgery of torn acl and minuscuse the sport i want to get back at are volleyball track cross country this is my first surgery and it happend on my birthday i was turning 13
Hi sir. My both knee acl was reconstruction. First was success but right knee acl was not recover by 2 yes. I can run normally but can not return to sport. Is their any knee brace to return sport or should I left sport. I am 34 yrs old. Please give ur opinion.

Hi, it’s been 3 months since my acl recon. but still now I sometimes feel pain while doing my regular physio.
I hope that I get well soon so that I can go back to running.
hi dr, i have done an acl/meniscus operation after my injury. After 4months, i still can not bend my leg completely. However, i’m now able to jog. Is that normal?
I will be on my 3rd month post op on the 27 of this month. My knee feels almost normal, I’m not quite running but I am doing stair master and other stuff like that. The only problem I have is my knee will sometimes click when I straighten it. Is that normal?
Dr. Geier, I am not an athlete and so after the 3 months of PT I did another month of going to the gym every day on my own. After that I went back to my normal life. It has been almost three years now. When I do exercise my knee gets inflamed and becomes stiff hours afterwards. If I sit for long periods of time when I get up I feel that stiffness again. What do your patients who are not athletes say about recovery? Will my knee always be weaker and sore? Thanks for your time.
Had ACL Cadaver Reconstruction, MCL tear, Meniscus tear. A lot of bone bruising. I am at week 12, still walking with 1 crutch, almost off of it, still have a limp, almost full ROM, achieved full extension. From the start, Ive seen huge progress every 3-4 weeks. I am expecting a pretty good recovery. My goal is to get back in to running and body lifting, I am a runner. No sports though, or contact sports.
I had acl and mcl surgery on June 7th, awful process, I’ve tried everything and still cannot get my extensions back

Hi, hope you’re well. It’s been about a year since my acl surgery and I feel like I’m doing good. The recover process is slow but I will not rush back into my sport (for obvious reasons). I have one minor issue, when I over extend my knee it kind of hurts, it feels more like a bruise fading away. Do you have any advice on that? I would greatly appreciate that.

Hi
I had an ACL reconstruction 13 months ago, after 6 months my physio discharged me and after 9 months my consultant discharged me and told me I was good to go.. I am doing physio on and off and have started doing jogging, and lot of other exercises after the 7th month, I have started playing light football with friends only recently and not gone back to leagues, I can play and keep up most of the times but scared to do twists turns like before and scared to go into contact tackles with opposition and keep thinking I will re-injur it..or re-tear it. and sometimes I get this pain on my bones/knee cap but very light and sometimes feels stiff but when I exercise it, it feels light..please give me
some advise from your experience…. Thanks
This is my third month just trying to see when could I start jogging

Hey, I would need some insight if you would be willing to help out. I’m 7 months post operation, been running for a month now taking it slow (this corona stuff came in handy) but everytime I run, my other knee is soo frickin painful next day.. Obviously Im feared that I tore my other knee too but after few days its back on normal.. What is up with that..
Had surgery in February, have 4 weeks till I start back running/jumping hopefully I can partially return to basketball in july
I’ve completed 4 months post-op after acl reconstruction and I’ve a fear or running/jogging again..
Am i fit to run again?
It’s been 2 years since I had my ACL reconstructed and I haven’t been able to return to sports. Fear is the only reason, I must admit. I exercise every day (running and boxing classes) but my only issue is that I get cramps and mild pain in the hamstrings area, same knee from ACL surgery, no swelling at all. Is this normal? Thanks you and great video.
My surgery was on oct 2 2019.. BPTB but after that i was unable to follow exercises.. now i can walk but not smooth… Extension and flextion is very difficult… Which exercises are good at this stage
Everyone should be aware that its a fear and a fear is irrational. If your ligament is fully restored and you have the same strenght as before (usually takes around 6 months to 18 months, depending on the athleticism) the chances for it to tear again are the same as before. So the fear is unfounded, because you didnt have the fear the first time you tore it. If its restored, its restored.
Hello, Doc. I am from Philippines and I have an ACL Injury for a year now. I got this during our volleyball game and up until now, no surgeries yet. I really want to go back to court, but I don’t have enough enough money to finance my reconstruction. I hope you can include me, if you have a medical mission here in the Philippines, soon. Thanks!
My first game is tomorrow it’s been 9 months I’ve been lifting also, I bought a shock doctor lvl 3 acl brace to play in
Does surgery affects performance and strength of athletes as we compare it to normal state if their knee
I tore my acl my sophmore year in football and it was devastating I had to go to therapy everyday after school I just wanted to get back into the game but I had to baby my knee and understand how long recovery was and I returned to football the 5th game of the season this year and it’s been fine ever since it just gets aggravated pretty often due to so much stress put on my knee
Hi Doctor!Im a Professional Football player in India and I had Acl surgery back in 8th March and Im recovering fast unbelievably. After 1month I can walk properly and now its nearly 7months and Im still doing rehab with my coach. But when I bend my knee theres still something like stiff on the lateral side of the knee,is this quite common. But when I ran or doing some agility things,I dont feel pain at all..Is this a problem or will it be gone? And what time will I able to play normal football,my coach says that 9 or 8 months?
David u r doing a great job i appreciate u man for that ur videos really helped me to get out of my fear after surgery
Tomorrow I have my first game back after my surgery in february
Sir my acl surgery completed on 18-04-2019, when I get back to sports and Running
Hi Doc. I had my ACL torn in November 2018 and did my ssurgery in Feb 2019.. It was anatomical single button acl reconstruction.. Wanted to know why this surgery was done… Prior to the operation I thought they would use the traditional method of 2 screws but instead they used 1 screw and 1 button… Will this button remain for life in my leg.. Is it harmful
I just got AcL repaired and I’m scared to go back and playing basketball and jumping

I had an ACL surgery from 14 days ago and iam being able to walk normally without crutches. I think that the psychological term is so important and its the most term that affects the recovery time. Once you have no fear and have a good self-confidence you will be able to pass over any difficulties you may face from this ingury.
I had ACL surgery 4 months ago and I still can’t jump because of the fear. I was playing volleyball and I really wanna turn back but I am really scared of turning back because of the story of reinjury that people told
Sir i had my surgery last june 8 2019 and for almost 2 weeks now i can walk slowly without the immobilzer but i keep using it now cus the PT said that i should use it not less than 3 weeks.. my question is it ok for me walk around cus im scared cus my quads is not yet strong maybe i’ll slip and re injuring may acl.. is it possible to re injured it again by just slipping?? Hope that u can response
Well… Fear of re-injury isn’t in the back of my mind anymore because it’s once again a very real reality today -sigh…. Had surgery about a year and some change ago followed by tons of PT and tons of gym training. Long story short I re-injured my knee this Saturday playing a VERY light game of basketball with my 13 yr old son, heck I was even being careful keeping conscious that my knee could possibly give out, and it did… FML!
I’m up for an acl reconstruction this coming may. My surgeon gave me alot of hope he is recommending a cadaver allograft. And went as far as saying that I will be 100% after the surgery. I was really put down when I got injured. I’m so use to being strong and lifting heavy weight but when you injure your knee it can be very humbling. Good luck to everyone struggling with this, peace.
i tore my ACL in the right knee november 2017, i play soccer and do bjj, i stopped the soccer for a year, played basketball a couple times and still trained jiu jitsu, i had a motorcycle accident on chriistmas of 2018 and tore the other ACL, supposed to get surgery on the 29th. worried about losing range of motion
Hello all. I am 35, tore my acl, lateral meniscus, and stress fracture tibial plateau… was an athlete before injury.. I will be having allograft surgery on my left knee.. will I be able to play sports again competitively?? As is running, cutting, spins, etc???? I am so worried… any info is good
Is it possible to strengthen your reconstructed knee as much as the original?
I’m 9 days post-op and I’ve got full extension but not full flexion yet. I’m still resting a lot with ice, using crutches and doing my exercises throughout the day, but suddenly feel anxious because I’ve seen vlogs and comments where people are at the bloody gym after 1 week and I’m not ready yet. I guess we all recover at different rates.
I just had my second ACL surgery on 10-16 ( 6 days ago) on my left knee. The first ACL surgery happened 10 1/2 years ago on my right knee. The fear never went away. I slipped in the bathroom 4 weeks ago and knew INSTANTLY what had happened. I suppose over the next few weeks the fear of reinjury either knee will only intensify. I never in my life wanted to go through this surgery again and well.. here I am, going through it again. I can only hope that I learned allot from the first recovery and will do better this time. Thank you for your videos. I am enjoying watching them.
I am planning to not go back to soccer for the rest 2019 and just focus on my body and work on my knee and do everything I possibly can to make it like I never tore it (it’s possible). I want to make sure I Eliminate the idea of going back right away when the doctor clears me. I think it’s good to take your time and not rush yourself back into action.
Hai I am Rohit from India, age 22, I have got ACL Tear. I am not a professional sports man, but i got this Injury while playing football. I am a get its reconstructed soon. How much time does it take me to get back to normal life (i.e, just like simple running causal walking etc..)
I want to get back to normal life.
thank you
The fear never goes away. I was never the same in soccer. Used to be fearless and just played never thought about injurying myself since I never broke or torn anything prior to my ACL/mencious. Now instead of just playing the game, I’m always thinking about re-injury and hesitating on moves or avoid play situations that prior to my knee injury I wouldn’t have a single thought about. I would just go for it.
Also, I have random flashbacks of my injury or thoughts of doing certain activities that could possibly tear my knee up. It’s horrible. It literally fucked me up in the head.
Its been three years post surgery and I never played soccer again. I used to also train in BJJ. I dont do that anymore either in fear of being twisted up and tearing something.
I’m not sure how to get over it..:/
I’m 2 days in and ready to get my on the field but also terrified at the same time bc this is a painful process and I would not like to have it happen again
Hello sir, I’m from Pakistan and I had tore my right knee Acl. Had Acl reconstruction from my hame string so my question is that. Which option is the best to Acl, Patteler or Hamestring????
Anxiously waiting to you reply
@Dr Geier
Also one last question does healing process vary as I am 38 and but have a very active lifestyle, was playing football 3 to 4 times a weeks before I torn my acl. or is the time frame same for everyone?
in my case what you suggest? ; )
many thanks

what if it’s not a sport you’re trying to get back? what if it’s just something as simple walking or driving a 5 speed car cause that’s what I want back so bad I’m not a very physical person as in I don’t do sports or run or exercise like I should I ride dirtbikes and love to walk and I want to be able to drive my car and my truck. I injured my all 5 days ago and going to see the doctor tomorrow idk what they’re gonna say is wrong with my knee (did I totally year my acl or partially tear it etc.) But but my knee feels unstable I can’t put much pressure on it I’m very nervous about what will happen to me I just want to have 100% or my knee muscle and mobility back I want it to feel stable and get back to my everyday activities.
You make me feel safe Dr. David Geier! More than my doctor, wish I had my surgery from you!

I’m gradually back to football now but my knee cap area still swells after the game and I’m unable to get complete hyper extention and complete bending. Please suggest and help, thank you very much.

I torn my right Acl partially from the bone while dancing on a football field. It’s going to be a year this month and to this day I am afraid of dancing again and exercising. My left knee moves the same way as if that ones torn too. It shocked my doctors and physical therapists and we are worried this one can eventually tear. Is there any way I can dance and exercise again without the fears of tearing both?
You sir deserve a show of your own! Thank you for all these tips!

Hey Doc
I’m Sagar from India. I am a professional volleyball player. My left knee was operated in January 2016 for ACL & meniscus & yet I am not able to get back to sports activities. Moreover now I have pain in my both knee’s. Doctor’s and physiotherapist are saying that you are suffering from anterior knee Pain (PFPS). I need to know what should I do to get back in game like diet & exercises or any help from your guidance???
What are your recommendations for/ thoughts on snowboarding after an ACL reconstruction?
Hello Doc, I’m 28 yrs old male and quite active in sports. I experienced a partial ACL tear from a fall two years ago and underwent diagnostic arthroscopy where the surgeon confirmed that the ACL is not completely torn. I’m experiencing some laxity in Lachman’s test and not able to fully recuperate from the injury. I’m managing it by using knee braces while running but having a tough time with the friction caused by it. Is it alright to continue using knee braces and if yes, please recommend a good product. Thanks.
how can i minimize pain in my ankle after reconstructive surgery over a year ago? i went to another orthopedic surgeon and he recommended to get it removed but i’m worried it will do more harm than good. hopefully you can help! thanks! Morgan
Can we return back to sports after an ACL surgery? And if yes that after how much time?
Hi DR., It’s been your advice to the ACL injury is very motivational. As I have ACL tear and its being 6 year. So I would like to know, whether it would be right time I can go for surgery. Please suggest your valuable advice. Thanks
Returned to football today 8-1-18 after having my acl,mcl and meniscus surgery 11-9-17. I tore it none contact and it really messed with me mentally. Through pt and my own time I trained like I was going to play but mentally I wasn’t sure if I was able to. My biggest suggestion to anyone coming back from a surgery is to understand your limits but forget about the chances of re injuring. If your scared about hurting it then chances are your gonna play scared which will not help you at all.
Hey doc can you tell me how IFT works? Apart from increasing the blood flow, how does it really cure the acl tear? I had a minor one and ift for 15 days took all the pain away, I didnt even exercise my knee as I was told to do.
I fcked up my left anle 2 times in 1 month, in order to heal i needed to rest but i wanted to come back so much that i risk it and get it injured again, after that i let myself relax and just heal doing some sort of strenghten exirces for the ankle, but reading all those things on the internet i though i will never play football again after resting for 6 months i come back motivated and started streching my ankle really good and etc and everything was ok in fact my ankle now is great but the other one(right) get injured last night so another 2 months out but i wlll use those months to motivate myself and to get better at everything i see alot of those ppls here comenting after getting injured they just fck it and stop doing sports like wtf just dont rush the process and work to better yourself + after getting injured you will definetly gain some knowledge so use it bros and good luck!
I broke my right leg in 2015……I broke my left ankle in the end of 2016……I broke my toe in 2018……I broke my thumb in 2018……I pulled a muscle in my lower back and it’s taking over 10 weeks to heal. I don’t know if it’s a tore muscle or it’s something in my spine. It’s gotten better though. I can sprint, jump, jog and do physical activities but it’s really sore. But in the mist of all of this I’m a middle linebacker that’s averaging 17 tackle’s and 2 sacks a game.
i pulled my hamstring last summer but i feel i wont be ready for this summer, its healed now and its strong but every time i work out i still feel pain in my hamstrings, i just don’t know whats happening, any tips????
I tore my ACL and meniscus last year when I was 18 at the peak of my physical fitness while training for my competitive sport. It affected my mental health hugely especially when I was doing pre-med as well. I never got into med and I gained 10kg…you can guess how bad things had gone. I’ve been given the green light to play and only the last few months I’ve been putting in the hard yards. I’m mad fueled to get back out there but I’m struggling with the weight loss. Any tips would be great!
