They went out of business and their servers are now defunct, leaving us with useless plastic. If anyone has an alternative app for this, that would be great. I spent money on nothing!..
Jawbone isn’t honoring my warranty on my UP3 bracelet, broke after less than 6 months. I won’t ever buy another Jawbone product!
Fit bit took our GREAT sleep record and gave us a DOWNGRADE that is useless, we can get the good one back if we pay $50.00 per. year, so are any other activity trackers doing this, I want to know who to avoid!
Ben, Thank you for the review. It was pretty straightforward. I’d like to ask you something.. I have a heavy sleep, sometimes I won’t wake up with my iPhone alarm buzzing really loud. What happens if you don’t awake to the first “alarm session” on the UP3? Does it keeps buzzing? Also.. Is there a way to set up an alarm with sound using the Smart Alarm feature?
bought it 6 months ago, that’s how long it worked for me.. issues started when app showed I was sleping when I was actually active. Wrote to support. Never received reply for assistance. It is says connected but does not track any activity. It tries to synch and phone get expremely hot.. sad it didnt last even one year:( so dispointed…
Thanks for talking about it being uncomfortable for typing. I had the up24 (2nd gen) and I stopped wearing it because it was very uncomfortable while typing on a laptop. I was curious if this was still a problem with the newer model. Any suggestions on a comfortable fitness tracker that also has plenty of features like heart rate monitor and sleep tracking?
After a week the product has stopped working, the Jawbone support site does not respond when that the Amazon reseller is not authorized personally by reading the numerous negative comments, I discourage the purchase.
Do you have fitbit charge HR review?
Also do u have UP3 and charge HR comparison video?
I’ve been researching fitness activity bands and finally decided to go with the Jawbone UP3 for the following reasons:
1) my primary reason is one that many might find the #1 reason NOT to choose the Jawbone because it DOESN’T have all the bells and whistles on the band itself or the related app. I already wear a watch, so no display isn’t an issue. But, most importantly, I tend to get overly detailed with apps and tech stuff. Not only is it time consuming, but it can’t be maintained at the level I invest and then it causes me anxiety when I don’t fill everything in every day. And nobody should be subject to e-mails, texts, reminders and phone calls by something attached to your body. We can always mute our phone or leave our laptop off. If we’re lucky, the U.S. will take the lead of companies in other countries and prohibit work related e-mails, texts and phone calls on the weekend or during non-work hours. Until then, the UP3 is a great way to take control and lower your stress level!
2) my daughter has used one for months now and loves it. She also knows me, my tendencies and my limitations, so her recommendation means a lot
3) the UP3 seems to be a front-runner in the feature that is most important for my needs advanced sleep tracking. Other bands offer sleep tracking but most can only track basic data at the most, awake, asleep and restless. The UP3 offers these as well as different levels/sleep phases. I suffer from several sleep disorders, so this advanced capability is a must have that not only provides information for my own personal analysis and identifies changes in my sleep patterns, but allows me to send the data to my doctor or specialists in between formal sleep studies.
4) It’s compatible with one of the best fitness apps (no device required) out there: My Fitness Pal. This makes it possible to connect with, track and support friends who use other fitness bands that can also text data to My Fitness Pal (and other compatible systems)
5) both the UP app and the My Fitness Pal app have versions for all three major platforms: iOS, Android and Windows (though the Windows app is not nearly as detailed as the version for Android. I simply use my old Android phone or view all the detailed data and charts on my laptop.)
6) It looks more like jewelry, very elegant yet subtle, and therefore doesn’t distract from the watches or jewelry.
I got mine for Christmas & it is not even a month and it does not work anymore.
hope you do a comparison video between the jawbone up3 and fitbit charge hr. can’t decide between them
hi…in the video [1m 45sec] you mention that it tracks body temperature…..I cant seem to find that on mine..can you help?
Forget the Jawbone if you are sight impaired because of the way you have to charge it.
Not really fair to complain about the strap… No one says anything about watch bands being an issue while typing, even though they are just the same.
Hi, thanks for the review! One question, can you see a graph of your skin temperature and galvanic skin response?
Anyone wants to duel on Jawbone? Please add me, Deniz Erdogan! Cheers!
This video was 2 years ago, where do we stand today?, is it still good?, ive heard jawbone is bleeding money and not doing good, and the UP3 is too cheap, is it worth it or not?, HELP
thank you for the set up video. Can you let me know how I access the food ligs? you didn’t go to that one in your video and I can’t find it: (
Hi. When it comes to sleep staging.. the app has a mistake. REM and deep sleep mean the same. How is it different from each other according to the app.
Excellent review and I appreciate your thoroughness. I have had two UP24 bands. One lasted right at a year and I exercise 3 to 4 times per week. the 2nd one only lasted 3 months but I accidentally started to wear it into the ocean and it got splashed and then the button fell off. The company has gone above and beyond the call of duty and have offered to give me an UP2 for free (black) or a 50% discount on all other products. I was not expecting this kind of customer service and they have earned my loyalty.
Great review as usual, just bought the UP4 myself, never really track my heart rate as soon as I woke up, only a training, was a bit of a shock to find out it was 44 bpm LOL on a regular basis, lol just going to cryogenic sleep Parrant Lee every night
I cannot get mine to pair I feel cursed by this company. I bought one of Jawbone’s items previous and had a horrible time with it. Now I have tried again and got the UP3 and it just will not pair. Can you help?
This might be a really obvious question but better safe than sorry, right?
So, my question is: “Does the Up3 need to be connected to my phone all the time or do I sync it by switching bluetooth one like once a day and everything happens automatically?”
btw, love your channel, great quality and very consumer oriantated!
Very professional and nicely done in all aspects. I have an Up 2 and now since I watched this video, I wished I had an Up 3. When do you think that firmware is going to come out to have constant HR monitoring vice only resting HR? Also, perhaps I missed it, but have you reviewed the TomTom Spark Cardio watch yet? Run, Bike, Swim, HR, Music and Waterproofjust looking at some reviews, but curious to know what you think of it.
I am getting ready to return my last jawbone product. Their hardware and software is great, but the average life expectancy of their products is three months! Of course, this never comes up in web reviews!
Jawbone is capitalizing on the fact that reviews like these only test the product for a few days, weeks tops. They know professional reviewers need to review other products, and they can’t afford to post their reviews months after a product is release.
After three months of wearing the band everywhere, but taking it off in the shower (because I’ve had jawbones before and know their splash-proof promise is BS), the band stopped charging. The seam between the front and back is starting to open, and when I tried to press it back in place, it actually opened wider on the opposite end, revealing a lid that is held on only by a thin layer of glue. No screws, no snaps, just glue that’s wearing off.
See what I mean? They know reviewers will never use it to the point where the glue wears off. They probably know of the wear and tear that comes from wearing something for three months straight! But they don’t care.
Right now I’m considering a Fitbit Charge HR or a Withings Activité Pop.
It is the best one among all videos I have seen. Very nice presentation and good quality sound… very nice.
Mine came with a little plastic piece that holds the clasp in place when you close it so it doesn’t come loose. Just al small thing that makes it more wearable.
So, after almost a year now…still no passive heart sensors..
Hello sir Jim, how is it when you are a Night owl, i work at night, could it possibly have a problem tracking things out? Thank you
One of the best set of reviews for activity trackers. Love your videos and reviews from an average users point of view.
Thanks for the reviews.
@jimsreviewroom do you need your phone with you all the time for it to work?
Man, thats how reviews have to be made Thank you for the very well done information video
I love your videos. But I have one question, does the UP2 have the really cool smart coach. I will be very happy if you could please reply.
Please still make amazing videos
Realy outstanding Review! Subscribed!
What camera are you using?:)
ben my up3 i had used for 4 days and today it shows battery low. and appear moon light. i had put on charging for more than 1 hour still no change. can you help me?
dude, that’s a cool review, I just have one question, I just can’t get it to charge what do I do?
6:55, if this Jawbone up 3 band is only splash prove, why does it have a swimming option?
Please help! I can’t get past the create profile page. A Did you know tab comes out and covers the ‘next’ box. I’ve tapped everyone and no results. Any suggestions to fix this is much appreciated. Thank you!!
So glad I found this video. It was much more helpful than anything else I looked at online.
It has been nearly 6 months where is the realtime heart rate firmware update?:(
Very helpful video. Thanks. I find that I have to charge my UP3 more frequently than every seven days. It’s more like twice a week. And it does seem difficut to get the USB cable connected to the UP3 so that it will charge. That and the difficult clasp are the weakest things about the UP3.
never seen such a professional and at the same time trendy review of something. 100 thumbs up jim!!
amazing review. never seen such a world class and polished review. this is now my benchmark for reviews
Hi Jim, awesome review! I work mostly in front of a computer and I’d like to know if it tracks movements this way? ie: thereby giving a false reading on actual activity? Thanks
hey jim i know its been awhile but i have a question..if i shake me wrist does it count as steps? like the fitbit..and how is it with wearing a long sleeve shirt or jacket? will it toggle the bands options? like when you showed in the shower? thx!!
What activity band do you recommend as a student that does sports 5 days out of 7 and does gym workout 2-4 times a week?
is this able to use music controls, such as Sony Smartband 2?
I just realised I have to purchase the UP app before I can use
Hello Jim, you did not mention anywhere whether you are able to see your HR during workouts, does it alarm you when you hit your HR goal, does it have HR zones?
The best review video I have ever seen. Good job sir! Keep rolling like this or even better if possible 😉
Jim I have gotten the Jawbone Up24, a second one because my first was broken in case of quarantee and they replaced it rapidly so do you recommend the UP3? is it worth to buy?
So I am a little confused does this watch track your heart rate during a workout or not? And if so does this appear on the app by telling you how much fat you’ve burned?
Has there been any significant improvements to the HR tracking with software updates yet?
So glad I found this video. It is so much more helpful than anything else I looked at. Thanks
hi Jim, I love all your videos they are great, and I’m looking for a new fitness band/watch. you’ve tested a lot but if you had too choose one band which one would you pick? thanks a lot.
I want a smart watch that shows my notifications, shows me sleep and has a vibrating alarm any ideas?
Hey Jim, have they had any updates which have added the features they talked about yet? Or is it all talk:(
bought it 6 months ago, that’s how long it worked for me.. issues started when app showed I was sleping when I was actually active. Wrote to support. Never received reply for assistance. It is says connected but does not track any activity. It tries to synch and phone get expremely hot.. sad it didnt last even one year:( so dispointed…
if i want to track running, do i need to press the start butting(like strava and runkeeper) or is it auto? thanks.
Thanks for the review. As a Charge HR user, I wouldn’t switch to the UP3, even though ‘Smart Coach’ seems quite interesting. The band is DOA in term of design i.e. the uncomfortable protruding sensors and clunky latch system. A huge let down, what were they thinking?
Amazon reviews say that this is horrible…Has your opinion changed since this review??
Hi,
Nice review, does any one use motorbike as vehicle and noticed any problem with the accelerometer, I mean did you notice that detect extra KM or FLOOR while driving?
Okay, I see a lot of comments asking about if Fitbit hr or up3 is better, well, I can’t say that one is better than the other one, but I can tell you the difference. So my brother got the fitbit hr, so I am going to tell you what I know about this one. With the fitbit hr you can allways check the time, the heart rate, steps taken and calories burned. The fitbit hr is a bit thicker than the up3 and might suit a male better.
With the up3 you can’t check everything on the “watch”, but the app is easy to use to check that stuff. As I know from my days with the up3 I can check the sleep very well and it suits me a lot better than the Fitbit hr, but it’s a personal choice. Just so you know, I am a female and use the white and gold one. It looks so pretty on my arm, so I don’t mind it at all. If you are a female I think that the up3 could suit you better (but it also suits a lot males). But as I mentioned above, it’s a personal choice. Sorry for my English.
fitbit charge hr… just because its the only one with a watch band style buckle and not some dumb tension or post and hole closure. why do fitness trackers all have to try and come up with a new way of half ass securing it to your wrist with each model instead of a watch clasp that works?
Hey Jim! Would you please do a review for the Razer Nabu X wearable?
the up3 seems to be thicker, is that correct or just an optical illusion?
how do i download the firmware update to my up3? please help
The Jawbone UP3 isn’t water proof its only splash proof so how do we put it on and forget it till we need to charge it? Think you should be careful what you say as some people might not know this info already! Just saying!
Does the UP3 auto switch to sleep and active mode from waking up or going to sleep? Because in you UP2 review, it was mentioned that the UP2 does not have such feature. Please respond.
Do you have to keep your phone constantly with you to have the jawbone working or can you do a run without the phone and sync the data afterwards?
This video and all of your other videos are well executed! Hats off to you good sir:) awesome review
Great review man! I am looking for a fitness band with best sleep tracking. What would you recommend to buy?
Is the up4 water proof. Shame this one isn’t:( I’m a swimmer
@JimsReviewRoom Jim what are your thoughts about the Philips bt6000 bluetooth speaker?
Choosing between this and a apple watch for running mostly.
Watch is almost double the price but I think it will give me more functionality and it got pretty nice potential in general. The money isnt a problem, I want some accurate readings and a fun toy.
Sane?
Please check out the Philips A5 Pro. Those $500 cans are something to check out.
Doesn’t look like a good buy at all. I think fitness bands are past their novelty shelf life. This latest iteration looks uncomfortable to get the right fit on as well as getting accurate data.
@JimsReviewRoom With all that what you said, Jawbone didnt give enough incentive to switch from a (especially recently) bought Fitbit Charge HR.
And if i didnt had a Fitbit… i would… probably still get either the Charge or Surge HR.
(Altough i didnt got the Surge mainly because of wearing long sleved shirts, and a bit of the price.
Im really impress’d by the material of the Fitbit and the locking mechanism that is basically a simple watch style lock. I dont really trust Jawbones for some reason… it looks kinda flimsy sort of.
Lets see what they deliver with the Up4.
As a side comment: im not to keen on waiting for the fulfillment of firmware update promises with added features etc. Id rather just wait for the next product.
But competition is anyway good and maybe Fitbit will later on Release a Charge HR2 that is submersible “proof”. (Altough i wash mine and once also wore it under the shower, officialy it is not). But its good that there are compeditors on the market, thats what drives innovation!
Good review! As Always, mr Dotcom 😉
Hey! Does the apps appearance change to which band you have? I have an UP24 and my app looks slightly different. I have an iPhone 6, so it wouldn’t be the size of things. I will probably pick this up when it is available in the UK! Awesome review man, thanks:)
Useless in my opinion. When I go biking I rather grab my polar watch. Even with sweat it tracks my heart rate.
Hey Jim another GREAT review! I was waiting for you to review this before I made a purchase. I like the up3 and the garmin vivosmart. Which one do you like better and how do they compare regarding size? I’m leaning towards the vivosmart because it has the time which is big for me because I usually work without my phone on me. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks and keep the videos coming!
Wow! I’m surprised they went with the same latch and touch sensitivity as the UP 2. Had to send my UP 2 back since it would switch between awake and sleep modes during running and jump rope. Also the latch would continue to fall off no matter how tight I had it.
I know the jawbone up 3 does not have GPS. Can it import GPS data that has been taken from runkeeper, map my run etc?
I was so hyped for the jawbone but then as the delays kicked in and I kind of gave up. Once it got released most of the reviews said it sucked but your review makes me really want to buy it:) Nice review Jim!
Great video Jim. I preordered this back in February and within a couple days of getting it was really disappointed. It’s good to hear that they’re going to have like HR monitoring in the future. I kept the band but bought a fitbit ChargeHR and it’s been pretty good, although I’m skeptical about the accuracy of the heart rate monitoring.
Love your reviews. High quality stuff. But I have a question here about UP3:
HR will be introduced…. umm….. at some point
Skin Temperature?
Galvanic Skin Response?
They claim so much and deliver…. almost nothing. Makes me thinking that this is first generation model (without those sensors) and we have to wait for the Real Hardware in gen2?
Do you have any information about this?
Thanks
Thank you, thank you thank you…I am old school 61! I wouldn’t been able to get going without your you tube help!
Hey, I had 2 questions:
Does the constant connection with your phone not kill your phone’s battery life? And is it necessary, will the jawbone stop working if you disconnect it or is it just for updates?
How long does it take to charge? Is it an overnight thing, or can it be done when you’re at your desk for an hour? And again, will it stop functioning if it doesn’t read anything from you? Thinking in terms of the inactivity timer thing, is that ruined for the time it is charging?
Cheers man!
How accurate is the information you’ve received, based on your opinion? I tried the FitBit and since I move my arms a lot for work, it counted steps even when I wasn’t actually walking.
What would we do without you Jim?! Seriously, thanks for another great video!!!!
thanks for explanations but it doesn’t work with my Iphone 5…is correct?
Jawbone isn’t honoring my warranty the bracelet broke after less than 6 months, I won’t ever buy another Jawbone product ever!
fucking piece of shit don’t work I am going to smash it with a hammer now…
hello sir… can u help me… which is the best fitness band…. fitbit hr or up 3?
Hey,
I can not see Luxemburgish as language:D but i will get on with french, english or german:D
Not working at all I just bought up3 and cannot synchronise it with my phone their up is not working. Why they still sell this products if they cannot support with an app. Isn’t this illegal?
Impossible to connect good thing I was given this LOL buy a reputable product from Fitbit, Garmin etc.
No automatic sleep mode is a no go for me. I tried with the original up. I just can’t consistently remember to put it in sleep mode. Has to be auto.
Unable to setup app as the server has been down since May 2018
if you only take it off every 6 days to charge it, does that mean you wear it in the shower?
Im having issues with my Up2, it has full charge, the red runner light is on when it’s on the charging stick, but when you take it off it goes off! no sync, no nothing and when I am going to create an alarm in my app it say “your device is not connected” and The TAP thing doesn’t work at all, I have tried several times, Read the ONLINE manual too, nothing seems to be working.
Any solution??
Thanks,
Dont waste your money on this shit $ 130 keeps unsyncing what a load of crap
Solid review, great a/v quality and consistency, thanks for this!
I can not get it to show any lights unless charging & it wont pair with my phone
i can’t get to the company i wrote to them on their website never calls back charging is a pain in the backside i do not want to hold the thing for a hr if i even get the blue light to bling very annoying don’t buy it bring back
@JimsReviewRoom Just a friendly suggestion. For your videos, use outside location. Your videos in my opinion are great but would do better with shooting outdoors or changing location. It’s getting a bit monotonous with the dark shade wooden table…
Other than that, u r doing great.Keep up the good work. Cheers
We have the same birthday. highlight of the video for me! thanks for the info
Excellent review and detail. Thank you for your time and efforts making the video. Best regards.
thank you for the video… but unfortunately UP3 by Jawbone is not a durable wearable and cannot last more than 6 months… here is why… and what happens… I am doing this cause I was a real fan of UP3 and Jawbone App but they left me down… thanks for understanding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJbjh3I_tbw
i was unable to update the firmware it would just spin for over 2 hours so i gave up and now it wont even charge
a very good and nice video. thank you, now I know how to use it
The Jawbone 3 kept falling off my wrist even with the security clip provided, they have not addressed this yet.I tend to think this is a sponsored review and not independent as it is a known fault and you fail to mention it
I currently have an iPhone 5 which this does not sync to, will it work with the new iPhone SE, if you know?
Help I just purchased the Jawbone 3 ( 2016) i can not find the heart rate on the app. I have searched every where looked at your video and your came up perfect. Did I buy ( or did they give me) the wrong Jawbone? My receipt says Jawbone 3
Jawbone up 3, Fitbit Charge HR or Fitbit Surge? I can’t decide:(
Helpful video. Thanks for your sharing.
Btw you really really remember your password?
I set up an account using up2. Do I need a new account for up3
This product is pure shit, I was given yesterday, it only shows the running man while charging and if I take it off the charger its dead, the app is a psycho maker I’m connected to internet my bracelet is fully charged but that bitch still asks for internet connection.
I bought one of the products of this shitty company and of course by my comment you can guess how it turned out. It was a complete fucking diaster. The product never synced with my phone after I took it off the charger and it was the worst experience trying to get this stupid thing on. Do your soul a favor and stay away from any company that starts or ends with “jaw” or “bone”.
hello just wondering if I connect the jawbone up3 on my tablet. would I need to carry the tablet around or could I just leave it and just sync it later on that day?
You said you like the jawbone over the fitbit surge but I don’t see it.
So glad I found this video. It is so much more helpful than anything else I looked at. Thanks
i have the UP2,and having a problem with it pairing, what am i doing wrong, i even tried to hold and press the band, but still not going through
DO NOT BUY anything from Jawbone! They virtually have no customer service and no warranty. My device stopped working and I have not been able to reach anyone via email… and their customer service phone is disconnected… just try calling if you don’t believe… and look at their FB page… people (including me) are super frustrated in trying to get them to respond
I would tell everyone to avoid a Jawbone fitness tracker. They have an average life of 90 days and the company will replace one for you, but the second time around they will do their best to avoid making you whole, citing their ridiculous policy. Best to simply avoid the trouble and look elsewhere with so many companies producing these gadgets these days.
Is it waterproof? Is it the pest i need something to track my sleep and health and heart will be good and good looking please advice,
Thanks.
