I don’t have time to make running my life so can I cut the longer distances out, chop the 5k into small chunk repeats, run them slightly faster than race pace and still produce a faster 5k?
hi.when dathan trains for the 5k, would you do shorter intervals first, then longer intervals, would you mix it up,or does it matter?
How to improve better timing for 5k? Now my best is under 23min, any tips to improve?
I watched Dathan run at a few high school races in Michigan including his record smashing 14:10 5k at states. What an amazing experience.
Dathan seems like a real gent. Just heard he retired. All the best Dathan.
I hadn’t ran in a year or so….
I started running again two days ago and on my second day I ran a 22:48 minute 5K.
Is that a bad time?
What’s a good time?
This was helpful but it really needed more screaming children.
Registrar: “Excuse me, is this an N or D in your son’s name?”
Dathan’s parents: “Yes”
I’m 16 and my 5k best is 18:49 but I’m struggling to get PRs. Any tips?
My current time for 5km is 20:45…My first 5km race will be on October 27,2019,it’s a Hilly road in Bokor Highlands Kampot,Cambodia.Looking forward to speed up my performance..This channel helps me a lot…Any advice for my upcoming race Sir?
What you need to do to train?? Start off with quarter mile repeats=6 to 10 @ race pace with quarter recovery in between. Do 1 a week for 3 weeks, then go to mile repeats= do 3 each @5k pace with quarter mile recovery in between. Of course with a mile warm up to start off and a mile recovery after completion. After the 3 mile repeats you should measure your progress with a race. Congrats!
Ran my fastest ever 5k on Saturday. Fastest old geezer of the race:-)
My current personal best is 21:36 this morning I ran 22:00 but I went out at like 4min kms which was too fast. I am 16 and have been running for 19 months
I have a fitness test next week for entry into the military, any tips? Thanks:)

My best 5k is 17:21 and I have regionals in 3 weeks and I want to get under 17, any tips?
Nate you want to be cool but you kind annoying. Change your approach. Good.luck
These tips will be helpful…I’m still at a point where I am unable to run a 5k non-stop. Can’t run for a minute without stopping. But I’m not quitting.
Going into my sr year of high school, season reasonable goal of 18:30 with a “stretch goal” of breaking 18. Any tips?
I am by far no expert everything he says I completely agree with. I would recommend joining a local running club as running with others does push you (like in an organised run event).
Can i train 5k 4 days a week for 24 minutes no rest in between. I have to run this for Police recruitment PET. Please reply
Okay, maybe for a beginner these may be good but for a intermediate to experienced runner this is nothing “new” to run your fastest 5k. I thought you guys would go more in depth but you only stayed at the surface.
It doesnt help at all if he doesnt give training plan examples!!!
my best 5k time was a result of working on my first half…..5k seemed like a breeze..must be Presidio or Letterman or one of those old Army posts that are now closed….regret never being stationed there……too late in my career before BRAC.
To run your fastest 5k, you have to be extremely skinny. Dathan is naturally going to run a 5k in under 13 minutes. No surprise there.
He definitely does not know what a neurotransmitter is and their function
I just started running this week. Yesterday was my first 5k ever, finished at 42:16. I ran it again today and got 39:30. Hopefully I keep progressing at this rate.
I have Junior Olympics coming up, in the 3000m can you give me any tips. If you can what about 1500m dash.
I don’t really get the difference between strides and speed work. Dathan says that strides are done at 90% effort -isn’t this basically the same as speed work?
13:00min 5k is ridiculous, i can´t even gasp what it would take to run this fast, incredible! Currently at 19:26min age 36 and i´m already happy with that!
Ritz is the man. True inspiration of hard work and dedication for American running at the world level.
I am 17 and my parkrun PB is 19:42 I got 2 months ago. Yesterday I ran 19:58 and I want to break 19 minutes as one of my goals. I am going to start doing other runs during the week because at the moment I only do parkrun 5k once a week
I’m still trying to smash that 30 min 5k barrier! yes, that’s right, over TWICE as slow as a good 5k runner
Awesome, what a great guy!! So humble as well…and as for a sub 13 5k….no words!
I’m 15 and my fastest 5k is a 17:55 I got freshman year but I’m afraid I’m plateauing, do you have any tips to help me shave my time down? btw I’m on my moms computer lol.
I’m kinda just beginning my running career like almost a year ago,
I’m about to do a 5k run today and my goal is to get sub 23 min
Here we go…
Can anyone trained me to get better at running and to get me prepared for xc
