Question for anyone currently in independent practice and employed by a hospital.
I'm a psychologist currently in independent practice and employed separately by a private hospital (my practice is in no way affiliated with the hospital). The program I work for in the hospital is grant funded, and when I was hired, I was credentialed with the hospital, but not with any of their private insurance contracts. I am paid through a separate system from other physicians/practitioners. I am credentialed/contracted with private insurance and Medicaid and Medicare in my private practice. In my private practive I primarily see individual therapy patients and occasioally perform psychological evaluations.
The hospital recently changed the source of my salary over to the system used to pay their physicians with the intent to have me be able to see patients outside of the program I was hired for. I requested this because my current program is slow, I wanted full time status (I'm part time now), and my supervisor (who is a physician supervising the program) supported the change and has other work/patients he can refer to me here. The change to a different pay system also includes credentialing me to accept insurance through the hospital. After some thought, it occurred to me that this could potentially impact my private practice contract with the insurance. I'm not sure in what way… so that's why I'm turning to you all for some guidance!
Thanks so much for your help. Any advice and feedback is appreciated!
