I’ve been heavy drinking for 20 years and have been sober for 9 days now. I’ve fell in to the trap of eating loads of sweets throughout the day.. Rome wasn’t built in a day and do feel much better without the drink. No bloated stomach and pains.. I’ll stick to it tho and try cut out the sugary temptation

This video is lame! Unfortunately it takes much longer to make any legitimate gains than 30 days. That’s the beginning, and you have to start somewhere. I did a lot of sleeping in the beginning. I stopped completely on January 20, 2019 and it has completely changed my life. I doubt that whoever made this video has ever even stopped for a month. The ending is the worst part.

Thanks for this video. I’m trying to kick the booze and one of my motivators is that I’m eager to get some unwanted weight off and getting more energy to get my lazy backside to the gym to burn those calories. I’ve put on another post that I weigh 4 stone more now than I did three years ago. Alcohol definately causes major weight gain and puts you at risk of diabetes.
After I quit drinking I started noticing a few things that I hadn’t really noticed beforelike stop signs and red lights.
Alcohol is a poison. I’m a recovered alcoholic going on a year. It was very hard cutting the nightly pint of gin. On the weekend I would go full on binge drinking with friends. I did this for almost 10 years. It got to the point where I felt like my body was dying. I felt bloated all the time. My face looked full. It sucked! I decided to pray to Jesus to cut the habit. I’ve been sober going on a year now and I feel great. It takes time for the body and liver to heal but be patient, it’s well worth it. Your life depends on it.

Anyone who is considering quitting drinking, don’t try it alone, and don’t stop cold turkey. Do under doctors supervision or rehab program if possible. I heard a sad story about a guy, heavy drinker, who stopped drinking cold turkey because his girlfriend said she would leave him if he didn’t quit. Well, his body went into severe withdrawals and he died of low body temperature and heart failure. Very sad.

The last 2 years of my life have been plagued by heavy drinking. I always swore I’d never get into alcohol because I saw what it did to my family members, but somehow it got me too. I am 28. I have pretty much been drinking daily since I turned 21. Instantly became an alcoholic. No friends what so ever. Lost everything. Never been arrested sober but have been arrested about 8 times after drinking. I started this year to put the bottle down and Holy cow have things changed. I feel sane now. I was at the point I could not tell the difference between reality and dreaming. I was at the point I would have to check my car every time I woke up from drinking just to see if I even drove. I came across your video because i was searching for alcohol & weight. I drink 1/2-1 bottle Whiskey a day EVERY night for the past 5 years. Had to give up working because of a disability at 50 was a “reason” i went from 90kg to now 130kg, lack of mobility and sitting all day is another reason why i put on weight and of course Alcohol. For a week or so i have stabbing pain around my Liver area and i know its because of my drinking. For the past 3 days i didnt drink any whiskey, just water and honestly i dont feel that good, i cant sleep at all and i feel cold and hot. I dont know if i can go on, because i have nothing else to do, i cant go out for a walk instead. Just sitting all day and watch TV

53 days in, and I can say. I’ve saved $229. My sleep is solid. My skin texture, and appearance has improved. As for the claim about weight loss, it depends, on you. I switched to candy, and ice cream, so no. Concentration, and memory has improved. I read more, and do more mental activities. My blood pressure has stabalized. I cut off FB because some were discouraging me from this goal. Overall, I agree with everything that was said. No AA, no prayers from others, no whining about process, I just did it. Don’t make it complicated. I used EasyQuitDrinking app to help.

How do you quit? Shit it’s hard to stop 3 days out of the week. I go to work and think I’m not drinking tonight. By noonish my mind completely switches to I’m having beers tonight. That mind switch is powerful and hard to control. I’d rather drink during work week instead of the weekend. Obviously I don’t have stress on weekends and totally easy for a sober day on Saturday. I enjoy a sober day and want more but, I feel like I don’t have the discipline it takes due to lack of mind control.
I quit alcohol for 2 yrs and lost 20lb, I relapse and gain 40 pounds. Now I figure it out. 1. I quit alcohol & negative people 2. Intermittent fasting 16/8 3. I went vegan 4. Exercise every day. In 30days I’ve lost 25lb!!!
So many programs out there that promise you’ll quit drinking from one day to the other and feel great for the rest of your life. Sounds like quite the stretch. Listen, Steffon Barkload’s Quit Drinking Forever takes a lighter, safer approach which you decide to go with on your own terms. IDK maybe you wanna look it up.

Only one I disagree with is the losing weight thing. I don’t think this is necessarily true. Alcohol often reduces appetite, and also I don’t believe 100 calories of alcohol equal 100 food calories. Your body gets rid of the alcohol calories right away.

Very informative and helpful video. I’ve noticed I’ve been eating more however it could just be me since a lot of it is taking the place of alcohol. I never drank on a full stomach but always stuffed my face after ward. I bet I averaged 18 to 30 drinks a week at lets say 130 calories per drink plus add on another 3000 calories of crappy food to go with it. That’s alot of combined calories. I am 8 days in with no alcohol the longest stretch in over 10 yrs. Alcohol is alway in my immediate plans and my immediate past for the last 20 years. I just hope my eating to fill the space does not accumulate even though I’m training fitness wise at least 5 days a week,

I quit drinking 30 days ago and started exercising last week. I assume the weight will start to come off shortly. I figure I was gaining 1 lbs every week not exercising then drinking alcohol and eating alot of takeout after alcohol consumption. At least i’m not gaining weight at the moment.

I stopped doing coke and drinking quite a few bottles a week. I could stop entirely but those 2 glasses wine on sunday while i listen to music and doing creative things is too enjoyable to let it go.

I’m dealing with alcohol addiction. I went from 140 to 175. I literally cry once a week when trying on clothes. I’m now depressed on top of it. I am a business owner and have 3 small kids. I mix drinks every night. I don’t know how to quit. I’m at my wits end. Very lost.

I quit drinking alcohol last May. I was 285 pounds. I am now over a year sober…and I am now 220.
I haven’t drank in a month or so and I’m still the same weight. I’ve been exercising but still.

Hangovers have pushed me to stop drinking, it’s just not worth feeling so shitty anymore. I do still enjoy a drink or two here and there, I haven’t quit 100% but I can easily have just one glass of wine on a nice occasion or one beer at the bar. I just love feeling good too much to even have the urge to get drunk again!
Hypothetically speaking I guarantee that if alcohol was just discovered a few years ago it would be lost illegal and in the same category with heroin or meth.

When I gave up alcohol, I lost 30lbs in 9 months. That doesn’t sound much, but I didn’t exercise and had big breakfasts and sausage and chips for lunch quite often.
Started drinking again a year later, and the weight started to go back on. Eating healthy and exercise wouldn’t stop the weight gain. Definitely going dry again.
Yup you are correct sir I went from 235-240 down too 188-190. It’s been 4 yrs approx I feel like a million bucks. Keep up the good work the best is yet to come

Most of the ways I can significantly improve my life involve STOPPING. Stop eating so much, drinking so much, watching p^^^ and m^^^^^^^^^^^, and watching too much damn YouTube. Lol
I’ve been over 3 weeks sober now. I had progressively turned into a binge drinking alcoholic over 10 years. I’m 36 now. I decided to quit after a binge that landed me in the ER last month and my liver was taking a beating. My father came in from out of town to watch over me through my withdraws (DT’S) for a week. I went through tremors, anxiety, panic attacks, profuse sweating, and even visual and audio hallucinations during this time. I couldn’t stand without feeling like falling and could barely walk up my stairs. I had ZERO strength and my hands would shake so much I couldn’t even send a text. I was prescribed benzodiazapines (xanax) to lighten the symptoms. It was hell. I am now almost a month sober and feel like a new man with a second chance. I am an Iraq war vet with PTSD and treated my condition with booze since 2007. I could never let my father and mother worry for my health as such again. They were in tears. I also have a 9 year old son, he doesn’t live with me but I see him as often as I can. He’s my reason for and motivation to change. I have always been a “functional” alcoholic, working full time since I’ve been out of the military. NO MORE. I was drinking through a handle of whiskey in 2-3 days before. A 12 pack of beer barely would get me buzzed. This is the longest I’ve been sober in 10 years. I feel better every day and wouldn’t trade this feeling for a drink.

I would say, IMHO, the #1 thing was how it ruins your REM sleep. Back in my drinking days I would think I’m sleeping until I heard the slightest noise and I was wide awake instantly. To me, that meant I wasn’t really “sleeping”. Strange stuff, alcohol..for me it was boredom that would make me drink, I found just staying busy was the trick.

I’ve been drinking about 5-7 days a week for about 7 years. I just want to stop. Hell I’ve wanted to stop for almost a year but I guess I’m too weak.
I WAS DRINKING AT THE LEAST 5 100ML BOTTLES OF FIREBALL WHISKEY AND A 12PK OF BEER. MY BODY SAID THATS IT I QUIT AND I GOT SICK AND WOULD THROW UP EVERYTHING SO I QUIT DRINKING. THAT MADE ME MORE SICK AND COULD NOT EAT SO FOR 2 WEEKS I FELT HORRIBLE. AT THE 2 WEEK MARK I STARTED TO BE ABLE TO HOLD DOWN BLAND FOOD SO I TOOK THE OPPRUTUNITY TO EAT HEALTHIER. LOST 10LBS THOSE FIRST TWO WEEKS AND DROPPING FAST I WAS CONSUMING OVER 10,000 CALORIES A DAY. MY STOMACH IS LESS BLOATED LOOKING AND STARTING TO FEEL BETTER. MY SKIN IS ALSO LOOKING BETTER.
15 days sober. I go to the gym maybe 2 times a week i need to go more cause i do stay up late at night now cause i can’t sleep.
Im 35. Im 9 days no drink. I hate aa meetings, feels like a colt to me so i dont like them. I still dont sleep good i stay up late at night watching videos like this on YouTube. I haven’t told anyone i stopped yet. I want to wait until day 30 to tell everyone i stopped drinking. I never been so dedicated to something in my life i got this.

I definitely relate to the “being the party girl’ of my friends and I’ve met so many great people while drinking Im afraid I won’t be fun. I had heart failure from drinking. I quit for a year and started again, I gained 45 lbs. I’m now 7 days sober again.
I quit for 30 days again this year, and now I’m on day 35. Shooting for 100 days now. I feel so good mentally and physically, I’m so much more productive, and I’m rarely tired anymore. Plus, I’m a few hundred bucks richer. We’ll see what happens after 100 days. Maybe I’ll just quit for good. Booze gets old after a while.

Thank you so much for this your are such and inspiration to me right now in my darkest of times. I let my depression take over everything and drinking became a new addiction to numb myself (had a opioid addiction and went to rehab and quit) but now it’s been a yr with alcohol and it’s gotten worse and worse and it made me gain all the weight I was so happy and proud to lose and it’s made me so much more depressed to gain it and I feel like a fat ugly whale so I drink more to numb that pain and then more depression comes it’s a very ugly cycle.
I need to stop for my health both mentally and physically, thank you for being brave to put yourself out there and inspire others. It means a lot ❤️❤️.
well not initially at least. I am in my first weeks, and it seems that all the alcohol that I am not drinking I have replaced by sugar plus coffee. I now have three coffee per day instead of my usual 1-1.5. And coffee automatically goes with something sweet for me, like a piece of chocolate or a cookie for me. So I actually gained a little bit. The brain needs that pleasure from something.
I’m on day six and I am ashamed to say the only reason I stopped is because my funds are low. But now I’m thinking how much I’m spending on it a week or month and what I’m doing to myself.
Can’t wait for results day 2 sober off alcohol not off weed tho haha

I was stuck in several cycles. I didnt eat properly because i was never hungry in the morning because of the beer from night before. but at night i would drink beer to fill me up. I couldnt sleep bc i didnt get enough exercise bc i had no energy from drinking, which also helped me sleep

i find it so hard the next day, i struggle with it the whole day and even the next few day i feel depressed and down. over university i used to drink far too much and black out, and im much better at managing it now. HOWEVER i definitely prefer not drinking at all, nothing better than going out sober waking up the next day for week and feeling nothing except a little tired! its the peer pressure i find hard….GOOD ON YOU

My record is walking 22 miles in four days and eating over 20 pounds of oranges that week!
I’ve been off the beer for two weeks now. I was a daily drinker (all day, every day about a pint an hour) and my appetite was tiny. I think because my stomach was always processing the liquid, I never really felt hungry, and when I did eat I was full after a few mouthfuls. Since stopping drinking my appetite has come back a bit, but I’m surprised at how much I’m craving sweet/chocolate stuff. Jam Wagon Wheels are my current ‘go to’ snack. While I was drinking I never used to touch chocolate. So while I’m not pumping in the calories through alcohol, I’m eating miles more sweet stuff then I ever used to.
I was about 77/80kg when I stopped drinking. Gonna weigh myself after 4 weeks and see what the deal is.

I just found your channel but I completely relate to so much of what you said! I had terrible experiences in uni and started drinking and binge eating to cover up how sad I was, I ended up having to quit the course because of how down I became but I just drank more and more every time. I’ve always been known as the “party girl” and the amount of times I’d come into work and realize everyone was talking and laughing about how I acted the night before was horrendous. My anxiety got so bad I couldn’t do anything the day after drinking I’d just lie in bed the whole day. Recently with quarantine I’ve been drinking too much at home and it’s been making my depression so much worse again, I’d ended up falling out with family and friends while I’m pissed. I’ve been slowly gaining weight too so this has really inspired me to give up alcohol, I’m currently a week down (not much but it’s a start) anyway I really like your videos and you seem like such a nice person, hope you are doing well! <3 xx

It’s been 2 and half years i have quit alcohol, from past 3 days i have left cigarettes.
I gained weight when I stopped drinking. I was very underweight because I used to drink and not eat for days sometimes. After stopping drinking my appetite returned within a few days and I started gaining weight.
