hey Stefan, nice review and thanks for sharing! I’ve had a couple friends who’ve invested around 1k in just a liftable desk (so you can stand or sit). So to have the trendmill component for a only a few hundred more makes it a great deal. My only concern would be getting motion sickness while using/working with it. Never been one to read or write while on a treadmill at the gym. Maybe the slow walking pace makes it easier for you.
Here’s a hot take, the human body is not immortal and any and all activities will incur biological decay in one way or another
What other videos should I cover next on our Research Explained series? Let me know! Here’s the rest of the Research Explained videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Arpoo8I0dI&list=PL2ADAFpTg5aZuS2_hpaRbSTvouWVuCR0x
Thank you for such a thorough review. I can identify so many parallels (rigors of collegiate programs, etc.). I like that you have highlighted the importance of considering one’s own physical fitness in pursuing a life best lived. You look and sound happy and healthy. Here is to many more years of the same!
Standing burns 40-60 more calories and hour than standing.
That’s the only fact I need.
You mentioned a Treadmill deskthat sounded good but you dropped the subject. Also, could you do a video on tDCS devices? Since they are so expensive, I would love to see someone call them a scam!!!
Perhaps standing desks are a good solution for people with ADHD? I find myself focusing far better when I pace the room back and forth on phone calls and thinking that standing will help.
I may doubt the claims on standing with mortality/overhealth health; BUT I think it’s kind of crazy to suggest it doesn’t help your back (as you seem to agree at 8:00). I think this is the key takeaway. Don’t skip out on a standing desk before finishing the video!
This was great! Informative and inspiring! You look amazing! I want to do this… curious how fast you usually walk? Different speeds for different activities?
Hi! Thank you for this video. Can you give us links to papers that you cited?
The way I see it, you’re not at your desk to work out or lose weight you’re there to work. You can’t work to your full quality if you’re standing for 8+ hrs in one spot, it’s boring, uncomfortable, and stressful on your joints, especially if you’re already overweight or suffer from chronic pain. Get yourself a nice ergonomic office chair, and just take a break to move around every couple hours, even if it’s just to get yourself a drink or go to the loo. You can work on your health outside of the office. Naturally if you already have a standing desk and you’re happy with it then continue to use it. It’s always good to try new things, so play around and find what works best for you individually.
This video is very well done! I have used both standing desks and sitting desks for months at a time, and I have found that vigorous overall activity makes a much greater difference in my energy level, attitude, and well-being than what desk I use. So I make sure to do frequent and vigorous yard work, bike riding, and walking/hiking to offset my relatively sedentary desk time.
I focus the best while walking. Needles to say, not really doable while working on a computer. Maybe we’ll get that treadmill desk some day…
Isn’t obvious tho you shouldn’t either sit or stand for too long?
Alternate between sitting and standing and take a 5 minute walk every hour. Still need to workout and have a healthy diet.
I stand on a wobble board and rock while I stand at my desk. When I sit, I pedal an under the desk cycle.
You said in the video itself that a standing desk has concrete benefits for both posture and relieving back pain related to prolonged sitting. That seems like a clear advantage, no? Most of the disadvantages you brought up are related to prolonged static positioning *in general*, regardless of posture during that time. So they obvious solution seems to be “use a standing desk, but take some breaks to move during the day”.
this was super helpful to watch considering i’m building my next setup around a convertible standing desk (video making and game streaming) i really dont want to fall into the trap of beginning to slouch in a gaming chair but also don’t want to constantly stand either.
I used a standing desk for a few months, loved it and plan on returning to it in the future(probably going to buy some electric sit/stand legs and build my own desk). Now after about a year of sitting, I have found that I much prefer standing. I just get really lazy when sitting, and only get up once every 4 hours or so, mainly just to get food or go to the bathroom. When I was standing, my general rule was 5min of moving/sitting per every hour, so it ended up being every 2 hours I would take a quick 10min walking/sitting break.
Overall, I just feel I was much more active and productive while standing. Which is weird, since I generally hear the opposite from people who use standing desks.
Hi there! Thank you for this fantastic review. It is super informative and extremely encouraging! Could you please comment on using the keyboard/mouse, very specifically I am concerned about the ergonomics? I am getting a TON of upper body pain from working on a sitting computer desk/chair. I’m wondering if I would be exchanging one set of issues for another.
These people say treadmill desks & keyboards have it all wrong: https://youtu.be/L09blXhpjOQ but they’re super expensive. What do you think? Did you have any ergonomics issues using the LifeSpan?
Thank you so much in advance!!! <3 <3
Half standing desk with for example HAG Capisco saddle chairs ^^
Unrelated to the video, but how well does Final Cut Pro X work on that MacBook?
First use a treadmill and a standing desk. Then if you get a little bit wasted, stop the treadmill.
And at the end you can sit down. Dont do one of those the whole time.
lifespan was not made to lasts with us. Customer service asked us to let it be checked with an electrician who charged us same amount as the equipment! just be warned
Oh man, I’ve wanted one of these for years, and your review just further cemented that want. I do worry about the noise, though—I live in a duplex on the top floor, and our floors are wooden/squeaky in places. Do you think a bike mat and/or rug would prevent noise transfer to our neighbors? It’s such a cool thing and I’d use the crap out of it, but I’m afraid to make the investment if it arrives and I realize it’s probably going to be loud for the neighbors.
I just got a desk that switches back and forth, mostly for my back and my hip flexors.
Humans just standing immobile on two legs for hours is actually putting alot of stress on the spine. The best answer is to sit and work for 40 ish minutes plus sometimes walking around or lying on your back for 10 minutes or so.
How can standing be unhealthy, that sounds so stupid. Standing is the next best thing to walking.
wow im glad to hear such an informative and honest review. i personally have a desk cycle, which i wish i had done more research on in terms of brand because it clicks at every rotation, driving me insane! and the resistance is like none.
i watched u today after ages and OMG u lost soo much weight.
Wow. What a thorough, and well done review. I have not seen a single walking treadmill review that is this well done. You cover every topic I was interested in hearing about. Incredible A+
Standing desk with a running band. Sitting desk with bicycle below.
Hey Lucy,
big thanks for the video.
It was super informative and is a very rare catch on that topic!
I heard about “Under desk treadmills” about 2014 and I always was keen about the idea.
At that time, I wasn’t idling that much in front of my PC.
Now I also wanted to buy a TM, because times changed. 😉
I’m having a wooden floor.. would you recommend putting a big mat or carpet underneath to reduce noise?
Great vid. I never really thought about this beyond weight loss but it seems like the endorphins might improve your mindset at work as well. I’ll check this brand out. Thanks for the info and review.
This was a really great video. Clear and concise and it had a lot of data and research to back it up
Great Video!! I’m buying one of these ASAP because after spending the past 20 years sitting in front of the computer for hours on end it has destroyed my lower back. I’m super excited to buy a treadmill desk. It’s truly a disaster how many hours people sit and even worse how some people don’t realize the highly detrimental effects in doing so. Humans are not meant to sit for hours we are meant to move!!:)
Just wanted to return to this video to let you know that thanks to THIS video, I decided to finally pull the trigger on an under-desk treadmill. I was really hesitant, given the price. Your video pushed me to do it, and I’m SO GLAD that you did. It’s been 1 month now and I’ve walked 150,000 steps and something like 50+ miles walked. The BEST part is BACK PAIN AT NIGHT IS GONE!!!!!!!! I used to wake up multiple times a night due to lower back pain. I haven’t had to do that ever since I started walking every day. So thank you for taking the time to make a quality, in-depth, well done video. It’s what inspired me to make a purchase that has really benefited my life. So again, thank you.
There is no mention of postural benefits form alternating between sitting and standing. Going back and forth between the two definitely helps alleviating my upper-back neck pain. I doubt anyone is mistaking sit-to-stand desks for exercising replacement. Significant omission for a study claiming to unravel the TRUTH
So all other factors being equal, standing desks are better. Got it.
THIS is a load of crap. Just stand more, sit less, and keep exercising
After finding I tended to get backache sitting at my consulting room desk I bought a Scandinavian kneeling seat. This is excellent and very flexible. My back problem was solved immediately. It was great for examining children when I sat on the lower support to bring me down to their level. For injecting knees the patient put their foot on the lower support while I sat on the main seat, everything lined up nicely to inject through the front of the joint (not suitable if you need to aspirate it as well). A great, although rather expensive, seat which I used until I retired when I gave it to my sister who had a lot of back pain. I wish I had kept it. It was the best desk chair I had ever had. Only problem is that it does scuff the toes of your shoes on the floor.
This channel is a gift that keeps on giving. It’s the type of channel that restores your faith that youtube can be informative and educational rather than banal, vapid and ridiculous. Well done.
Dan Pena put you up to the office treadmill at your desk didn’t he?
Nailed it. I have a job where i stand and walk constantly. My gf has a job where she sits most of the day. On my time off, I probably spend half my time lounging. She spends almost all her time off staying active.
1:40 that’s not really accurate. sedentary life style is not incompatible with practicing sport regularly. (likke: running in the morning, or going to your gym does not fix the fact that you sit all day aside from that. and study have shown that the more sedentary you are: the more enegetic your workout is (two extremes in the same day instead of a smooth consuption)
The problem standing desk wants to resolve is the folowing: breaking sedentary behaviour.
A sendentary life style is when you are in a sedentary behaviour for a long ininterupted period in a day.
So standing desk are not desk that aim to make you stand up ALL the time. but more like allowing you to KEEP working while taking that “siting break”. By itself, standing desk do not fix anything. It is but a piece. It just forces you to change your position, to stand up and to move your legs a bit.
Hand-on? more like “LEGS-on” hahahahaaa
nope, not that funny..
I want one soooo bad! But this is way out of my budget right now unfortunately.
Would you consider filming a clip of you using your desk (tying, writing, watching)? I’m very curious how difficult it would be.
Moderation for everything and change up things frequently. This is the golden science since thousands of years ago, no need reading papers from one side or the other… I filled up my cup half way or one third, so I would move to get more drink more frequently.
my back hurst more when i stand, I sit all day and my back never hurts, but if I stand for 10 minutes I get strong lombar pains
Please don’t buy bottled water, it’s better to get a reusable cup (or thermos) and drink filtered water, think about the environment.
Doesn’t the risk of varicose veins increase on standing for prolonged period’s of time
Very interesting stuff, I like your style and content. Keep it up!
like anything… if we don’t have the data then moderation if usually the answer. for me I stand up at my desk in the morning. After lunch it’s sit down. This seems to help my lower back.
I’ve found that standing whilst smoking is about the same as sitting. The important thing, is to move around whilst you’re smoking. Take regular smoke breaks.
Examples of moving whilst smoking, is getting the car and getting some drive-through fast food. If you use the highway, you move much faster.
You can also go to the refrigerator and get a cold beer. This exercises the arms as well as the legs. The more beer you drink, the more you need to move both your legs to get the beer and your arms to drink the beer. It’s a win win.
In other news, it has been conclusively proven by scientists that living is dangerous and by far the default state, for most people, is to be dead. These facts are conclusively ratified by the simple fact that there’s more dead people, over the course of human history, than there are living people.
How many hours a day would you walk on this treadmill?
I have lots of physical pain that is just as bad as yours. My knees constantly hurt and lock up with an unknown cause except for the only evidence being genetic. It didn’t help that I spoil my cat and carry her up and down the stairs every time she follows me around the house. I also have a love of food but dieting to prevent weight gain had gone to the point where I couldn’t eat enough to keep me properly nourished with vitamins, because my metabolism has hit a rock bottom.
Luckily I’m going to university for free because of a scholarship and they have a gym that I plan to use as much as possible to become healthy again and that’s why I’m asking about how many hours you walk on the treadmill.
So, what happened to your corset training? Coz now i can’t see you in hour Glass shape anymore..
Oh my gosh! Have you seen the Nordic Trak Desk Treadmill? The desk is moveable, the track can incline, the motor is at a 3.0 chp and….the track is a fold-up!!!
Holy Wow! I just saw it today on Amazon! Check it out and please review?! Thanks!: ))
For me prolonged sitting desk creates a problem for my sciatica. There are desk that allow you to sit and stand throughout the day, smart desk. And, when sitting I prefer to sit on a ball.
Gaming on my standing desk makes me slightly sick, and I’m one of those animated player so some times almost fall over, but it has been better for the rest of my puter activities.
Thank you for the super informative video. I like how you got into detail, that we understand your journey and why you bought one. Being satisfied or dissatisfied about a product is also very much connected to the expectations of the buyer and the reason why they bought the item in the first place, so it’s good to know the background. And I’m grateful for all the details like price and electricity usage, it’s something that is difficult to estimate yourself if you don’t have the product.
I have a few extra questions for you or commenters who have a treadmill desk.
1. Is it easy to type while walking and do you need (several hours/days) to adjust to walking and typing at the same time?
2. What about the noise? I’m thinking watching movies or youtube videos or if you want to play some background music. Do you always need to wear headphones or put the music louder than you would normally or not? Is the noise of the machine hindering/disruptive in any way?
3. Can you just put any chair on the treadmill when you want to sit down? Could a chair or sitting on a chair on the treadmill for a while damage the treadmill? Sitting on a chair on the ground or on a treadmill, does it feel any different, if so is it more or less comfortable?
Thanks for the detailed review. I won’t be able financially and spacially to buy one in at least the next year. But I’ll save the video and save the idea of a teadmill desk, because it seems super interesting. I’m really overweight and I sit down too much in a day. Recently I have started to run. I’ve started running many times during my life and generally I give up after a few days or weeks. But this time is the first time that I run and I don’t hate every second of it, I actually have moments where I enjoy running while lip-syncing to my music. So I’m very hopeful that I’ll keep it up this time. I accidentaly heard about a treadmill desk and had no clue what it was, so the moment I looked for it on google images, it seemed interesting but I wasn’t convinced that you could work like that. You’re video was so interesting and informative to watch, it really seems like a good product.
if it is too expensive for you, look at this: @ cheaper, smaller, better? your decision
I have a standing desk and a tall stool. Most of the time I rest one butt-cheek on the chair while standing on the opposite leg. I find I move about more freely with a standing desk, remember to take breaks, and it is waaaaay better on my back (which was broken eight years ago). I also have a really nice leather office chair (sitting) which I use if I’m reading material or filing in lower file drawers. I don’t have one now, but I also used to have a kneeling chair I liked that a lot, but that was before I broke my back.
Well after watching this video I’ve decided to just get a Yoga mat for now, and go stretch every hour. Save a few bucks while doing some research on a good standing desk that either wont burn the motor out or the crank not strip. Ty for the info brother.
got a bit of lordosis there, have you seen a physio for that?
This is why $#!+ standing up. The standing toilet patent pending.
got mine yesterday. walking as I watch. thanks. good content
Thank you for putting together this video! I ordered a LifeSpan treadmill yesterday, and your video came up on my feed today. 6.6 Million steps in the first year! That is very impressive! You are an inspiration!
Did anyone try play videogames on treadmill desk?
Can you play videogames while walking?
It might be worth investing in a good height adjustable monitor as well. I understand the reasons you have the keyboard at an angle, but I would say it would be better to have the desk at the right height (slightly over waist I, lower arms at 90-degree angle) and the monitor as well (top slightly below eyes).
My screen is positioned lower than my head, since it’s easier to look down one’s nose and eyes are resting more when doing that.
In conclusion: Human body is trash. Cats sleep all day long and they are agiles AF
“every 2 hours you sit you take 2 hours off your life.” Jesus Fucking Christ.
Your an idiot if you believe that. All through school, all through college, through most careers, anywhere you drive, anytime your eating food, what do people do? They sit. Even if you are super active, you will be sitting for at least 8 hours a day. That doesn’t mean it has to be at a desk on a computer. By that 2 hours logic, everyone should be dying around the age 45.
After hearing you repeat such an absurd comment I’m not even going to bother watching the rest of the video. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing negative to say about standing or walking desks… just that idiotic statement.
They want us getting sick, before it was all go go go, we as humans walked, hunted and physically worked for our survival
Whoa. You ar eamazing. I found this looking for a review of the treadmill, and I am blown away by how smart you are about it, and how engaging you are. I have never even seen a corset in real life, but I’m going to go watch one of those videos just because you’re so cool!
I definitely agree with you that standing for 20 minutes for each hour is way better for you health
I like your perspective. Investing in the items that you use everyday that can transform your life. I agree its a small price for something that can have a big impact especially over time.
Thanks for the video. I’ve been looking at something like this and this video greatly helped push me in the right direction. I just hit 300lbs and I think this is a good initial move to a healthier me. I appreciate you taking the time you took to make it.
Just bought a treadmill desk today! I can’t wait until it comes in!! Thank you for the video! Super excited now!
A walking desk is something I have contemplated for a few years too. I have become sedentary because my lifestyle has changed and I am someone who needs their exercise to have a purpose. So decided that a treadmill desk might be a good help. So it’s great to see a review. The video didn’t feel as long as it was.
Hi hun, I do a lot of crafting and sitting for hours per day. What height would you say would be best for the table to be standing. I guess it would be different than using a computer because I wouldn’t be looking directly in front of me more down at the table especially when hand sewing etc. I am struggling to find a foldable treadmill here in england that flips over and halfs its size to store away. Can you recommend where I should look. Thank you.
This was a great video. I really appreciate that you took the time to do it. I was thinking the automatic height adjustment wasn’t necessary but now I know it is! Do you think I will be happy with the mid-range treadmill?
Just bought this tonight after watching this. I’ve been looking at this product for over a week now. Software Engineer and work from home all day long, I’ve gained so much weight and looking forward to a new me in 2017.
I’m thinking about some compact treadmill and a standing desk converter, so even though my boss is not going to buy us a treadmill desks, I would have one on my own, and if I decide to change jobs, I would be able to take my “treadmill desk kit” with me!
THanks for the review. I think the adjusting feature is important. Did you look at Life Fitness?
Your videos have helped improve my life in many different ways. Thanks buddy.
awesome review! I’m buying one soon. They have a 3 and 5 year warranty. Do you think it’s worth it?
Yeah, on one of these videos…….a programmer who sat for 10-12 hours per day……developed pulmonary embolism……he also knew others who had developed problems.
I would like to get one of those if I didn’t have to use a wheelchair.
What about proper position when sitting? No word abour that!!
Thanks Stefan this video has just shifted my mindset on the impacts of sitting down while working, you’ve inspired me to try and stand more while I work. Thanks again!
Thank you for the detailed review. In my research to find an under desk treadmill, I came across your video. You helped me make up my mind to purchased the LifeSpan Treadmill. I have to do something, because I went from walking maybe 6,000 8,000 steps a day in the office to barely walking at all. Now, working from home, I may get in about 1,000 2,000 steps, and I am really starting to feel the results of that. I even stopped wearing my fitbit because I thought, what’s the point. When I figure how to sync that thing to my phone again, I will be putting it back to good use. So again, thank you for the review.
This video was freakin awesome! Short, clear and to the point! Good job,:)
For each 20min, there should be a break time with full body movement. That’s what I get from this.
@Project Life Mastery what about those of us that can’t walk and chew gum at the same time
so to speak
I so want one of these but I don’t know if I would be able to focus
I don’t think many people are considering standing permanently at their desk. The idea behind desk raisers is to, every 20-40 minutes of sitting, do 2-15 minutes of standing. Also, no one stands perfectly still. This video makes it sound like you have to choose between 2 extremes.
Why do you say that you’d need both a treadmill and a sitting desk? Aren’t there any treadmills that can moved away during the periods of sitting at an adjustable height desk? Or are they a nightmare to move? I’m considering a treadmill adjustable height desk but don’t have space for yet another sitting static desk or can afford the super supper treadmill desk that goes up when sitting.
I have a LifeSpan, and couldn’t be happier! The features suit me just fine!
If I weren’t a broke college student with 9 month rent contracts I would totally get one of these, walking and swimming are my favourite forms of activity.
if it is too expensive for you, look at this: @ cheaper, smaller, better? your decision
I’m looking into treadmill desks not necessarily for the health benefits more so the thinking benefits. Whenever I walk I think better to the point that I’ll pace in a room just to think about something, in other words my mind works best when I’m slightly distracted by something. Have any other people with ADHD or something like it, seen benefits from walking desks? I really wish there was a way to try one in a convenient way, because I do think it could be something that benefits me a lot.
Standing led to improved psychological well-being. Sooooo people felt better because they THOUGHT they were doing the right thing.
I’d recommend getting an external keyboard, since the keyboard needs to be horizontal (that tilted angle can be really bad for the wrists). Also, for productivity, getting some screens is really worth the money. My minimum is 3 27″ screens.
Exceptionally good>>> ur2.pl/911 It has a quiet and smooth operation. The electronics are more than adequate. We do NOT run on it, so I can’t evaluate that, but the walking experience is extremely favorable. Then the best news, we had a problem with the treadmill that required the “dreaded” call to Customer Service and a repair person. I CANNOT express how pleased I was with their customer service and the repair technician. Absolutely top-notch!! Highly recommend the company and this treadmill!
riding a bike is a sitting activity too. With motions in short range wich will lead to shortened muscles. So riding a bike is moving but its moving while sitting. Same for the gym most machines let u sit while doing ur exercises. Its beneficial to restore the body and natural positions and movements wich where lost over the years of sitting. Where just not made for our lifestyle and the fix for this is to change our lifestyle. I would go for the standing desk and switch between sitting and standing every hour or so and do some exercices. And the most important walk and do it barefoot like god or the superior alien race wich created us created us for. We also degenerate with every new generation. The weak can replicate and our genes degenerate couse we dont have to use our body like it was ment to be.
1 minute of information and 8 minutes of pure fluff to extend the run time… the quality of YouTube videos is just worse and worse these days.
Hi Lucy, What a GR8 thing!! You are positively getting your monies worth. Just think of what you will be gaining from what you are doing. There comes a time in all our lives when bone mass and keeping it becomes an issue, what your doing now is literally slowing the clock down for you, that is great!! I must admit, when you showed the price, I thought for a treadmill, yikes, but then as you talked through all the benefits I can easily see where you probably have already got all you monies worth from it.
Thanks for the link on the compression socks. I have a had time finding compression socks the fit right because of my skinny legs!! LOL
I looked at the size chart for calf measurements and I am at the very low end, but I might try them, also are they up to the calf fit or below the knee fit? Thanks:)
You have me thinking, there are so many benefits from simple walking, you are doing A-OK!! Keep it up:)
I like the stool, your neighbors were going to through it away???? I wish I had neighbors like that!! LOL
Yeh, what a difference, from before and after, your face looks younger after the 2 + years of using it, ( more thinking, LOL about one for me ).
Anyway, thanks for the video, another great idea, courtesy of Lucy,:) Thanks, take care, summer is closing in!! Gary
I finally had the chance to try this model yesterday! I can attest that it is a solid motor and a fine and quiet walker! I’m in the process of replacing a Proform beast with a 12-inch step up, and have been watching and wading through various reviews, looking for features I am now desiring in a treadmill. Treadmills are a bit of an expense, so……Nice review. 2 thumbs up! Thank you! 60 pounds?!!!
I DESPERATELY need to get one of this. After ROTTING in front of a computer for the past 20 years and has DESTROYED my lower back. It’s awful!! Will I be able to job slowly on this thing or will it damage it?? I HOPE I can also do that on it? I’d be really grateful to know.. Thanks!:)
If I’ve been offered a job position on a company without chairs. I’ll leave first day.
Do you realize in this video we are seeing two images of you talking.
Can you run on that Treadmill or is it made just for walking?
Excellent advice, Tread talks, all of it. I’ve been using a Treadmill Desk for two years, in fact, I’m typing from one now. I know Treadmill Desks seem gimmicky but THEY WORK. I typically walk 12,000 steps/day and over six miles BEFORE I hit the gym. I am sharper mentally and never get that lethargic feeling in the afternoon. I now find I’m way MORE productive than when I sat all day. I do all of my desk work while walking. I only sit to take a break or eat.
Full disclosure: I got so into Treadmill Desks, I sold all my office chairs on eBay and started a Treadmill Desk company, http://www.UnSit.com. We make a unique under desk treadmills and Treadmill Desks. Our design solves the space problem presented by typical treadmill desks.
Not sure if you’re in bed with LifeSpan or not, but if not, let’s connect and compare notes.
Whether or not you buy an UnSit Treadmill Desk, GET UP AND MOVE, its the best thing you can do for your MIND AND BODY.

I have a standard threadmill and i never heard someone say: sorry, the button indication are erase coz I use it so much. I need one. I seat at lest 40hrs/h in front of a computer. Your review is way better than some professionnel reporters.
I have (imperfectly) designedand build an upsliding desktop so I can stands or sit and change it as soon I feel the need and BONUS: my poor design make the change a bit chore and force me to exercise more 😉
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this it could have been an hour longer and I’d still have enjoyed it. You talk very pleasantly! I watched this on my treadmill.
I bought that Treadmill about 3 weeks ago and I’ve already lost 5kg just from walking around 3 hours per day. I’m really excited about that because despite numerous attempts all my life I’ve actually never succeeded in losing weight any other way. This is too easy I can’t do any other exercise because I get knee pain but walking I can do that easily, I just need to integrate it into my life because it does take a lot of time and finding time can be a challenge. Treadmills make it easier to do.
It occurred to me that I’m actually going to be wanting to do this for the rest of my life because of the psychological benefits (I too suffer from anxiety but it’s basically gone from all this walking) so I realised I’d probably need a treadmill desk because that would be even more time efficient. At the moment I use my treadmill to listen to music and watch TV shows but it would be even more productive if I could use for reading articles, completing my studies, working from home etc. Hence I stumbled upon your video.
I’m rambling. Thank you for your video, keep up the great content, congratulations on your success and happy walking!

I prefer standing it allows me to move my legs around. A treadmill desk is better.
I have one of those pedal things, like on a bike but you can sit on any chair you’d like. I use it while I watch Netflix or play video games, it amazes me that I can be productive while wasting my time haha
The video gives a lot of information about “what” studies say, but not “why” or how credible they are. The advice at the end is sound, but is irrelevant to which choice you should make because the “why” and credibility check are missing. Having those two elements would be more informative!
Great review. I’m wondering if you’ve actually noticed an increase in endurance in the legs, and if so, do you believe this translates to walking and running outside or on a treadmill? I’m trying to figure out if this is an effective way to build up the legs for running, while also working at my desk.
The desk is the new fad for the high performance lifestyle. The big trick is to get the monitors in the right hight and angle. Great job getting the word out.
The solution is just have someone else do your work for you while you take your yacht to the best surf spots in the world.
Conclusion: Labor demand of hours of work in front of display under capitalist economy drive us all mad and ill not matter if you are stand or sit.
“TrEaD talks” Awesome video, I am looking for one of these, my diy working bicycle desk is not that great.
Hi Lucy! I have been wandering your website for many years (I do medieval/renaissance reenactment to Yay Corsets!) I happened upon this video because I am considering a treadmill desk for my home. (I have a sit/stand desk at work). I was wondering if you had an opinion on:
1. impact of being morbidly obese while using a treadmill desk
2. difference between using a treadmill desk and just walking in place at your desk.
Any thoughts?
This is why I love your channel. Your reviews are so thorough and informative, and not just the one’s pertaining to Corsets! I trust your opinion very much, so thank you for this, as it’s beyond helpful!! I’ve been meaning to find one myself, and the universe is funny, because lo and behold, this pops up!
Thank you for the inspiration,
30 yr old male from Canada, originally from India,
much appreciated.
Can you run on this treadmill and do you have to have a desk?
Brilliant, I have my treadmill desk for work every day.. I’m managing 3/4 hours walking now after really pushing myself to do it. I mostly do calls on it and I look out to sea. Being stationery was really bad for sleep, mental health and general well being. Th aka for this I was researching for ages before I bought, not 4 years and there were really bad reviews but this is great, thanks
Liked your video. I’ve came to the same conclusions over the years, but it’s nice hearing someone else’s opinion also.
Thank you for your authentic review and sharing your experience! Soooo relatable
Yes…..i think do always new moves burn calories and make you injury free body…..

How long did it take you to lose 60 lbs? Did you change your diet too or just start walking at your desk? How many hours a day do you use it? Would it be as effective to have a sit/stand desk and walk in place instead? (Sorry for peppering you with questions! You sound well read on the topic and I am really considering this. )
Do we need walking desks then? Dr. Michael Greger often is on his treadmill working away with his presentations and talks.
I’ve been using a standing desk for the past 2 years. Now the only time I use it in standing mode is to battle my post lunch crash. It works like magic. For the most part of the day I’m sitting as it increases my productivity way more than standing.
wow. this is the most thorough review i’ve ever seen. 2.5 years. congratulations, by the way:D
Are you still using this? I am thinking of buying one of these for my home.
hi there, how is the treadmill holding up. I am not sure if I should go with the A1 or go with a more expensive one? thx
I just got a flat under desk walking treadmill for myself, and for my puppy. I plan to use it for those bad weather days, watching movies after work, and for while doing simple computer tasks.
When you mentioned you lost about 25lbs in 2 months, can you tell me how many hours per day/week did you use it? Did you keep a log of hours per week walking on it?
Really thanks so much for your honest, motivational review about desk treadmills. As a working mom I had to come to terms that there are so many days that I can’t go out walking and wandering outdoors hiking or walking around the city or riding a bike for hours as much as I did before having kids.
With our new puppy I walk around a track and field only as long as puppy can tolerate in the cold. I clearly need more exercise.
I’m looking forward to living a long healthy life and losing some of this weight I’ve been carrying around for too many years. It’s a start and I’m motivated and hopeful for some positive changes in using my new walking treadmill.
Hi Lucy, would you like to test this treadmill desk as well? https://youtu.be/mCyFHHD6vog
Just switched to standing but my arms aren’t in an ideal position it feels
I think I’m going to end up MORE productive on a treadmill desk. I was a very active person before getting into the tech industry, and I HATE how much I sit now as a programmer. I have this horrible conflict, where…. I feel like I have to destroy my body and my health in order to improve my financial situation, and in order to improve my health, I have to avoid making money… since every time I sit down to make money, I’m sitting which ruins my health.
Every time I sit I’m anxious, just waiting for my 2 hour time limit to be done so I can get up and walk around. So even when i’m working I’m pre-occupied with the thought of moving around.
I’m a woman and don’t go for girls☺️but I must say you are stunning! Thanks for video!
Looking down at a laptop is an ergonomic nightmare. Get a keyboard, and raise that laptop up in the air. Use a box or shelf. I ♥ the Roost laptop stand to get that laptop screen up high (I have the original model).
Awesome way to stay active while working. Now try eating while walking and working.
First you are amazing. Second I’m purchasing a used one for $100. I will start really slow and still have my regular desk. I appreciate you.
I have a problem with sitting down. I noticed that if I sit too long, my butt would just ache and I would get this huge urge to walk around. This is why I’d rather take the train for 1 hour than ride a car for 30 minutes. I’m hoping to buy the treadmill desk soon. It’s pretty expensive tho.
this review was v v insightful and honest and packed with REAL FACTS… although I live in an apartment with limited space and share the room with a sibling plus its pricey investment (BUT GOOD ONE ) might not be able to get this desk… but this video has definitely opened my mind more about JUST PLAIN WALKING and its benefits…
im curious,do you ever get tired? does it feel like you not even walking around the first month of useing it? i want to get one.im always at my desk sitting and really need to get walking more, but its very cold or very hot my town. also how do you know what to lube the tredmil? i never own one before.and how do u do it or use?
Thank you so much for your review! I was also in an accident that caused me to experience similar issues, so seeing your honest review made me feel a lot better about my situation (and strengthened my interest in investing in a treadmill desk). I did not expect such a thorough and meaningful review, so it was very refreshing.
Awesome review Lucy, I loved the detail you went in. Even with the calculations around the average cost of electricity! Also, the fact that you’re reviewing this after 2.5years is crazy.
The StepBet thing is genius, too.
I typically run 25-35km per week, and I want to supplement the days where I don’t go out with a treadmill like this (I’m also considering a stationary exercise bike) for when I work from home.
Your video definitely helped me gain some new perspectives on the benefits of having one. I don’t have a ton of space, and I’m trying to be conscious about that.
I’m still on the wall, and trying to figure it out. But this video definitely clarified a lot of the questions I had.
So all that to say, thank you for taking the time to share:)
How hard is it to move this desk around. If someone needs to move this desk into another room.
Thank you for this video. I recently obtained a portable treadmill that can be used underneath a standing desk. I don’t use it in that way. I just use it like a regular treadmill. I never thought of just walking on it continuously. I would never have thought the results would be that dramatic form that type of walking. I have some of the same issues that you had with your knees and I also have tendinitis in my foot. It’s hard to walk at a fast pace right now so I haven’t been using the treadmill that much. I’m going to start walking while I watch TV in the evening. You have inspired me. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
You have long fingers, u r typing style in nice and fast. Do you code
Not too sure if I buy it. For the past 30,000 years or more humans lived in large social groups. We have been evolving to sit down with family after farming and hunting and other things like enjoying festivals and entertainment. I’m not sure if just two hours of sitting could negatively impact your life.
Man.. I wanted one of these ever since Tai Lopez made a similar video. I just bought a rebounder (you definitely helped convince me) so now I have to start saving again. I used to think these things (rebounder, treadmill desk etc.) were nice but not necessary, especially considering the money. Now I’m starting to believe you can’t afford not to have them.
Thanks for posting this! I have been saying for a long time how bad sitting is for humans.
Thanks so much for this review! Really helped inform my purchase for a treadmill desk:)
Fantastic review. I work from home at a computer, hence a very sedentary life. Over the last two years I have put on so much weight, especially around the hips and weight because I am sat down all day at my desk when working and then on the sofa in the evenings. Its got to the point where even taking the dog for a walk for 20 minutes is a chore and exhausting. I think I will look into buying a treadmill desk to improve my stamina and health.
I started with a standing desk almost two years ago. This is the next step! (*see what I did there?)
I always think better walking around… and I have serious focus and mental readiness working while sitting. I thought about the standing desks but I never tried it. Now that I’m watching this video I simply placed my small table on top of the desk and it becomes a standing desk. As simple as that… and I quickly experience more mental clarity and focus… I wanted to continue working while standing…
Flaws are too much, integration with health app is a major
I stumbled on to this while looking for a treadmill for my desk. Great review, super detailed. Thanks for taking the time to do it.
I was very interested in getting a standing desk for similar reasons. I recently put my Mac on a box so I could stand and work. I never heard of a treadmill desk until now. I really wish I had the funds to buy one of these because I think it would help with my fibromyalgia, especially on days when I can’t drag myself outside to exercise. I would have no excuse.
Excellent review! Thorough and really good analysis of your investment! Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. I struggle with a ton of similar chronic pain and have been researching treadmills/standing desks and this is exactly what I needed to know. And as a cosplayer I’m glad I found your channel for corset information!:D
Thanks for the video, where did you find the special computer stand for the desk?
Do you find it hard to concentrate on your work and walk at the same time? I’d love to get one but thats my biggest reservation!
I would love to have option of walking desk at work, but that’s not gonna happen:-D But with additional sit-sewing or just watching videos at home, my carpal tunels started wanting more attention more often. I am little bit countering it while working out, but i need to come up with routine for home and ideally for every day. I am also just about to invest in my desk/sewing place and chair, so hopefully the improvements will be felt soon:)
Really nice review. You look amazingly fit.:)
Fitoffice for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV6G1LnU_Mg 😉

I think the key takeaway from this part is the “Occupations” involving primarily standing. Not desk jobs! I bet there is a positive correlation with morbidity and these types of jobs. People that are low SES have over all worse health out comes and often have jobs that require standing. So you should probably stand more but don’t get a job where that’s a requirement.
Damn girl! My notifications must have been messed up. I hadnt gotten one from you in months and just wemt to your page and this vid popped up, i haven’t seen you in months and my jaw hit the floor! Lol You look amazing! You looked amazing before, always but im just so in awe of your dedication and self control. I wish i was more like you amd when i say ima do something, actually do it. Ive wanted to lose 20-30 lbs since i had mt daughter 5 yrs ago haha but i became disabled after having her and wasnt able to bounce back as fast as i did with my oldest.
Thank you, this video resonated with me in so many ways. This has really helped me to know im not alone and that its possible. I wont ever be able to afford a tread mill desk but ive got a new puppy and a 5 yr old to drag me around the neighborhood .
LOVE this setup, will get it, too! Did it annoy you that both when on the treadmill and when sitting the desk always had a skewed curvature, or is it comfortable? As you are not sitting in the middle of the desk/curvature.
How is your peformance while doing other things? Did it hinder your ability to type, or focus at the computer at all or just an adjustment period?:o
Standing height desk is best imo. That way you can easily alternate between a bar stool or bar height chair and standing.
Awesome video! Thank you! Congrats on the weight loss alsoI was wondering if you were going to mention how much you lost.
I’d buy one if it could get up to 5mph so that I could at least dual purpose it for speed walking fitness. A 4mph pace (15 minute mile) is just too slow for me. Dual purpose is the key.
Very thorough, indeed. You confirmed for me how much less you spend medically, which makes up for your purchase. When I have walked long distances, I have been in better overall shape, improving energy and mood, as well. Between that and doing planks and lunges, I should be good in a couple of months-if I regularly keep up the protocol. Congratulations on your wise investment. I’m especially glad your health has improved. That is really what it is all about.
So good to see you in a much better emotional state. You look and sound much happier.
adjustable height is great if you have a wife and 8 year old
Hi Lucy,,,, I always enjoy you overviews, you learn all the good stuff we need to know….
