My weight loss doctor had told when I was going through a weight loss journey it takes 3 weeks to break a habit and 3 months to create a new one so you need to be persistent and accept during that time it is ok to go through a period if adjustments. Breaking habits is not overnight. One other tip he gave me was we need to stop with food association. As most people eat out of mental associations we make rather than need. For example when you go to the movies you automatically associate popcorn and tell yourself I am at the movies, So I need popcorn, these association will always set us back if we don’t break the cycle

The only thing you need to give up, is giving up. I’ve been applying the attitudes you advise here for a few months now. And it’s had great results. Just some tips from myself:
If you’re sick of gaining weight and not losing any, putting it off til another day is the worst way to lose motivation. As soon as you can, get stuck into a regular routine. Being confident that you will not give in, even to tempation of your friends eating in front of you. Rely on yourself for motivation, otherwise it can fall apart if you cling onto somebody else to motivate you.
For exercises, if running is too hard, I suggest walking for 2-3 miles/kilometers at least 4 times a week, at the same time, every day. Allow that 4 days to become 5 or 6 days etc. If you need some sort of motivation, use music to push you further, matching the beat of the song to your workout rhythm.
Also, a quick (and some say unhealthy) way to lose weight is not eating before walking/running. Your body requires something to burn off, it might be harder, but your body burns fat faster and quicker. Don’t overwork yourself though.
And finally, be prepared to “torture yourself”. What I mean by that is to ignore cravings of food. It’s too easy to eat in between meals, but it’s important to let your body burn off an appropriate amount of food. Rather than feeding yourself. A good thing to
keep in mind is knowing you will be disappointed in yourself if you keep eating junk, and let yourself go on a proper diet. Cut obvious sugar & fat. High fiber cereal with fruit and no added sugar is always a good option.
Don’t believe the lie that you should “reward” yourself with some fries and something once you’ve worked out. The real reward is looking back in 3 months and seeing the change that you brought to yourself. Feeling happy and confident.

I did not like this video. Insulin does not turn all excess sugar into fat. Converting sugar to fat is VERY inefficient. Also, eating several small meals a day does not increase the metabolism and makes no difference for fat loss/gain. Also, exercise affects muscles not body fat. One example would be sumo wrestlers who get a LOT of exercise and are also very fat.

Thank you Dani. This video was very encouraging to me. I have been so disappointed in myself. I lost 55 lbs a few years ago due to my lab work showed that my glucose was a little bit higher than the normal range. After losing the weight my lab results were normal again. I very slowly put a small amount of weight back on over about a 2 year time span. After that, my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and I took early retirement to care for him. Instead of using my free time to get in better shape and start losing weight again, I acted like I was on vacation, eating with no boundaries. I had time now to cook all those comfort food recipes and we started eating out a lot just to get out of the house. Now I have put most of my weight back on and my blood sugar is a little higher than normal again. I have started making better choices, but weight loss is very very slow. The good news is my blood sugar is improving. Still I need to lose weight and be healthy so I can take care of my husband and enjoy my life the best that I can. I’m 62 and I don’t want to be a sick, fat, old lady. I definitely need to change my mindset. I’ll admit, I’m pretty down on myself. I keep asking myself, “ what was I thinking! How did I let this happen,” I feel that I know a lot of things that I should be doing, but I keep procrastinating and feel like I will just keep failing or I will be successful and then be fighting weight gain my whole life.

On my own, I tend to get lazy, forgetful, or I let stress, circumstances, and situations get the best of me. There have been times where I go to the supermarket, buy organic, juice up, etc. Then, boom, back to the same rut. The reason why I say this is bc I believe you are right. My own relationship with my self is not strong at all! My mindset has been, if you can’t beat them, join them. My husband is a junk food addict, and I ate it all until I got sick recently. I actually felt my stomach turning inside me bc of the junk food. I am now trying to get back to caring for myself, thanks to this video, which confirms what I feared. I need to get past my inclination to procrastinate, it is a very bad habit.

Lots of good tips but eating every 2 -3 hours does not give your body a chance to burn fat, it will only burn what you’ve eaten. The best advice is to leave 5 hours between eating, and walking is very good.

Dani I loved this video. I have struggled so long with restricting certain foods which made me miserable. Please make more of these videos.
Personally, I usually only eat breakfast (6-8 am) and dinner (4-7 pm) and a small snack if I’m hungry. I just naturally don’t ever feel hungry at lunch. I only count calories sometimes, but not too often. I tried reducing plate size, but we only have one size of plates so that was kind of off the table for me to do. I don’t exercise daily or weekly or do a sport (anymore). I only exercise when the mood strikes me. Also, I live in Japan where portion sizes are like 1/4 what they are in America, so that helps when eating out. I get around 6-8 hours of sleep usually. Sorry if this comment is long, I just really like to talk.
