my problem is, that i know i can do squats with more weight but my knees are bad and i don’t want to destroy them.

so I tried this out. Normally I do 20 diamond pushups (I know its not impressive, Im mostly sedentary) but I decided to do 100. After 25 my mind said “arent we done dude?” but I kept at it. Strangely after 30 I could only do about 1-2 at a time but after about 75 I was doing 5 at a time. At that point my mind stopped asking me to stop and I was in a focus. TL;DR I know but this message is life changing I think.

always wait at least 2 hours after eating until working out.
Idk if this has anything to do with why your knees hurt, but make sure you have the right form; your knees should never go over your toes while doing squats.
If you really can’t work out (which happens, don’t feel bad) you’re allowed to take a break. Just remember to continue eating healthy throughout the day:)

I really could use this advice in my everyday life, at school especially.
I think the problem with that approach is that it might work as a one-off or in the short -term but the more you do that the more you sabotage your body and mind in the long term. You will break your body down and burn your mind out.

I totally wanna quit sometimes too! good luck to you! I try to think about the end goal too I want when I wanna quit. I think about the body I want and how I want to be stronger. Sometime I don’t push myself when I workout then I think to myself, if I’m putting in the time to workout I might as well do it right.

I have been going to gym for about a month now to get my routine/form down and get used to weights…I loved this. I wasn’t sure how to push myself and switch up weights. Incidentally, I was on the treadmill watching this and saw how much u were sweating in your cardio….upped my incline and speed until I was working much harder and sweating too. I was slacking off. I know exactly what you mean. I breathe through my mouth a lot when I work out and it always makes my throat dry. Over time I’ve pretty much figured out the right amount of water to drink to soothe my throat without filling my stomach and making me sick. For me, about three or four SMALL sips will do it. But overall, just try to control your breathing; you’re not suppose to breathe entirely through your mouth, but it’s really hard not to; it just takes practice.
I agree. I mean, you should work hard. (hard breathing, sweating, muscle burning and all that) But you should listen to your body and stop when you’re feeling TOO pushed. Right?
Yeah! I confirm the rule; I once planned a 60km roller blade ride and ended up pushing one minute at a time up to 148km in 10 hours. I was not an athlete at the time and still aren’t. But after I thought I was about to die… yes, there was still 60% more. Thanks for the great motivation speech!

My throat gets sore/burns when I work out, so I drink water but then because I’ve drunk water it makes me feel sick in the stomach.

no… better to do 5 sets of 5 reps at 25lbs with “perfect form” and a drop set of 5 sets of 10 reps at 15lbs. for sculpting purposes..this will give u 1375lbs of volume with maximum building and sculpting with no chance of injury and perfect form.

I’ll walk to the gym through rain, hail, fire, I don’t care, I make sure I get there in the early a.m. I let nothing stand in my way. If something stands in my way I run it over. I hope you realize when you workout, or when you get uncomfortable, you only benefit yourself. Sure, you can stop, but what does that do? It makes you weaker. Don’t stop, keep going. You have this.
Your determination is truly inspirational. Usually if I feel even a litte tired, I stop and and eat something instead of finishing the workout. Basketball practices are always so hard. This helps me push through the pain
Going through hell lost my family went into financial downfall ruined credit and on top of it all lost my job. Through all this hell and adversity I never stopped training. Some days in the gym I would feel like crying and stop working out but something inside of me told me to continue. I can’t say how many times I wanted to just let everything go from the depression. But someone told me that this dark time is here to make me stronger mentally and that life does this to filter out the bad to make room for the good.

This video has good insight I would agree with. Not just for fitness but for everything in life. I often try to trust myself and my current actions in the moment. Most of the time it’s good not to double think. The mind is useful but sometimes the ego gets in the way with doubts and excuses amongst other things. For me It’s better to have a goal or an intention and get right to it without over analyzing it. Faith based action..Trust is the key..I’ve become my own mentor with these principles.

This is the rudimentary “no pain no gain” mentality that has created the parental “tough love” which is proven to be “ridiculous” and “void of emotional intelligence” if not “flatly counter-productive” or even “fucked up”.
I did something similar to that 100 pull-up exercise….When I finished, I vomited for an hour and my muscles were so swollen that I could not move for a few days.
Pretty sure it wasn’t a mental barrier stopping me, my body was just letting me know that I was doing a very dumb thing.

It’s great to push yourself but you also have to be smart about it… If you’re untrained and after you reach muscle failure “you’re only 40% done” you’re gonna hurt yourself eventually. In gym same as in life it’s about consistency and sustainability more than short term burst of effort.

The rule of 8 huh? I’m so excited to try this out, I usually do 8 reps but I often feel like I could do more. I haven’t worked out at all for about two months so I’vle lost a significant amount of muscle mass. But rather than letting that bring me down, I’m just gonna start over and go harder and truly turn this into my own project, by trying out the rule of 8. Thank you for being so inspiring!

This helped!!!! Actually did this this morning (not knowing the 8 rule) and feel better about my workout now. I went up in weight and was able to do 9 (struggling) but also did drop sets. I wasn’t able to get in 8 reps after that set and was getting in a bad mind set. Thank you for doing what you do, being who you are and letting us see the real side of strength.

How would this rule work with hypertrophy? I know 10-12 reps is ideal for growth so if choose a weight I can’t do more than 8 reps with, then like…that’s impossible? Lmao halp. How am I supposed to push myself when my goal is to growww?

In my unit we always called it “beyond suck.” Your comfort zone is 30-40%.. then there’s about 25% more in pain.. which sucks. Your body will go another 30-40% while numb. After this.. you will lose all motor control and your muscles simply won’t respond. Was always fun, on these days, to go to the mess hall and have to eat like a dog because you can’t lift a fork more than an inch or two above your plate. These days really helped build mental fortitude as much as muscle.

Get up at 4am and start your day with what is most important in your life. It´s not your work, your friends or even your family. It is Yourself!

As a fat fucker life was and still is very tough. I was put into care at 11. Mum died at 19 of cancer. I was drinking to excess I got to the point were I was slightly over 25 stone I i also I suffer with asperges syndrome I rescued a dog for companionship 18 month later I had to put him down. My life just fuck deteriorated. But I knew there was something inside me telling me to get up and stop feeling sorry for yourself enough is enough. Time to get the dreams u always wanted l. In January I decided to turn my life around and said I can. Since January I have now lost nearly six stone I have now to jobs 1 part time and 1full time job. I even now cycle 8 mile to work and back every single day I have gone from drinking and eating shit to working approximately 55 hours a week I am now going to start kickboxing I am also weightlifting now because I want to have the best built body in my town. I have typed this because I am proud of myself and I hope it also helps other people.
REMEMBER IT’S IS EASY TO CLIMB THE HILL. WHEN YOUR ON TOP IT IS HARDER SO ALWAYS TRUST YOURSELF AND SAY YES I CAN NOT YES I WILL.
