Thanks Jeff. Stopped this exercise precisely because of the wrist banging!
Tip of the hat. Best video on the subject. You’re a great communicator.
Had to do double kettlebell squat snatch the other day and could barely do it with 16kg and th prescribed weight was 24kg
I’ve never tried Kettlebells but I will tomorrow. Any chance AthleanX could talk about dumbell snatches?
Jeff, all good but elbow is too far out and also remember to keep thumb closer to clavicle.
Thanks Jeff. That was a great tutorial on how to do a kettlebell clean…
How is this guys channel not bigger? Quality content right here
What’s agood weight to start with if you’re a newbie to exercise?
Perfect explanation, this is the reason I stayed away from cleans. Thanks
The key is to spiral the weight around the wrist. It’s timing and form. Gets harder after a few sets with the last couple of reps. God knows I’ve smashed my wrist a few times with a 24kg kb. Wrist guards are essential for the novice.
Great vid. When the wrist is in neutral both flexors and extensors or agonists and antagonists are flex at the same time. That’s pretty cool.
Great video. Learnt so much for both snatches and cleans. Loved it. Thanks so much.
WARNING this guy is clueless about kettlebell training. Sloppy form, doing it wrong, bad advice.
Amazing physique, clearly you do conventional weight training too?
Thanks Jeff. I’ve been training and bodybuilding for 30 years but have learned so much from your videos that have helped me correct some bad habits and technique. Now that we have this coronavirus pandemic, all the gyms are closed and I picked up a pair of adjustable kettlebells to get some workouts in at home. I’m still learning the kettlebell swing and I’ve watched many different videos that illustrate different variations and techniques. Did a search and seems like you do t have a video on the kettlebell swingpretty surprising considering you are a guru and maybe the most respected trainer on YouTube. If you have the time maybe you could post a video on the kettlebell swing as well as a few more basic kettlebell movements or excercise a that us bodybuilders can utilize while the gyms are shutdown. Would be much appreciated and while doing some ok e searches I’ve come across a few others who have also purchased kettlebells I. The past week 😉
Thanks Jeff and stay safe
That’s how the kettlebell naturally moves. No natural movement needs instruction.
You have thee most perfect physique. Now, here is a guy who knows how to keep it natural and not overdue it [and try to get more huge and ridiculously huge]. Congratulations on achieving such a well balanced approach, while being Mr. Ripped.
Love your videos brother Going to show my girl as she’s never done these. I know how to, but it’s easier if you have someone explain in simple and perfect terms as you do
Just started my clean and press, take a kettlebell with me in the van because I work away a lot. Thank you for the tip, it’s helped a lot
I understand the concept but I still can’t successfully do it in a doubke clean. My forearms are very swollen and bruised
Jeff Cavalier, and Steve Cotter. Two men you’d want to get your KB knowledge from.
Brilliant advice, made my wrist feel much better! So happy keep up the great work and tips cheers bro
As always you give great explanations. Please do more exercises using KB’s.
Thanks.
Hi Jeff, could you please make a video for Power clean and press (check list) using Bar and Dumbbells? Thank you
Hi whats the appropriate volume for kettle bell cleaning 1 rep for a set? Can you do hiit with it?
I was watching kettlebell sport today (first time) thought I’d try one of those style of workouts: I started with 1 arm, was gonna do 90s with 60s rest, 6 sets. First two sets were easy, so I doubled it up for the last 3….. way more challenging than I was expecting. At end of the sets I still felt good, so I kept going, I counted 125 reps in total, but the first two sets of Double arms I did not count. Brutal workout!
This is the only video you have on cleans….could we possibly get a video on barbell cleans? Maybe a check list or do’s and do nots?
I love that side snatch / traditional snatch sort of flow you did here. I can see myself having some fun with it, with additional weightlessness / juggling stuff in the middle. Great video! Thanks for sharing Dan!
I was gumming gor 6 months until this stupid lockdown happened. So I have decide to resume workout in some way at home but I only have a 3kg kettle bell. What kind of excercises can I do?
Thanks, Eric. Another good tip video. Fast becoming one of favourite youtube/instagram fitness channels. Really appreciated and just about to go smash one of your single kettlebell workouts. Thanks again.
Thank you, thank you, thank you jeff! I have started to do kettlebell. I have watched many videos, and all of them say the same thing that I have to flat my wrist when do the clean. and it hurt my forearm like hell!!! Even I don’t bang my wrist.(it just presses to my forearm) I’ve tried to find the video that show me how to fix this but none of them could.( Maybe it’s just me )
But after I watch this and I try to extend my wrist a little bit like you show me. Damn!!! It’s working! I don’t feel pain on my forearm anymore( Ok, maybe a little but I feel a lot better )
Please do more videos how to kettlebell.:)
We had to do twenty three 40-pound kettlebell cleans in a minute as a test in the military. The instructor didn’t teach us the proper way and we all banged our forearms like crazy lol
I wear those thick terry cloth wrist protectors for tennis players because I still can’t get that Kettlebell clean form right.
To the fingers would be best for light weight kettlebells, unless you’re really strong and can’t do that with the standard 24kg. I rip my hands sometimes but eventually, at least from what I’ve experienced, your hands toughen up over time. Additionally, I’ve found that chalk helps. That’s just me though.
This is by far the best explanation on youtube. Everyone keeps saying keep your wrists straight and this makes much more sense with the wrist extensions.
Great explanation. Finally I’m able to do that movement correctly. I kept trying to swing the kettlebell up instead of bringing it straight up. Which is bad on the rist.
Nice tips. I love this complex move and loved the breakdown you gave. 10/10
Im glad i was doing it right. Why swing a cannonbal around if you dont know how, or maybe its intentional to throw a cannonball around haha
If you had a good set/rep/rest scheme workout with these, what would you prescribe?
Great teachings For me after hurting my back and hip a bit, the dropping the kettlebell scares me most when heavy. I think I will stick with lowering like a cj & jerk
Who’s here because of pavel tsatsoulin, who was there because of Joe rogan, who was there because of that stoner guy from work?
YES! I was hoping for this one! Great explanation and detail, as always! Thank you Eric! You’re awesome!
I’m sure this hurts a lot of people’s feelings but he does not know how to work with the kettlebells.
He’s showing it the wrong way because I’m sure he never uses them if it isn’t to record a video for his channel.
Nothing personal, just saying!!
To drop the KB,….twist at top, twist at bottom.
No banging wrist.
No tearing hands
I had issues doing this. Thanks to this video I know can do this exercise without banging my wrist
Always pick that athleanx vid first when trying some equipment, YouTube is full of “personal trainers” Jeff is the king.
I have seen a lot of people that on youtube that try to do that with a swing! That has to be impossible right?
Im not talking about the snatch now.
I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more Kettlebell
Jeff, would you consider making a kettlebell program? I hope that you do? I love your programs. And videos. Stay strong
Jeff I love your videos and your straight forward no nonsense approach. I’ve been subscriber for years. But this time you’ve missed the mark. Check out videos on Kettlebell Sport. Steve Cotter has a good video on how to rack/clean the bell. There are other good videos too. You want your elbow in your iliac crest and the bell resting on top of the forearm with the weight centered over your hips. Bone on bone.
I think I got it…playing it at.25 speed helps to get the fine details.
Thanks to this video, I kettlebell snatch 24 kg like a boss!
interesting points,if anyone else needs to find out about workout with kettlebells try Renkarter Bell Fitness Report (just google it )? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my co-worker got cool results with it.
I learnt more from this demo than all the others on YouTube. Excellent tuition, thanks, subscribed
on the way up, what do you do to keep it from slamming your wrist? One video shows turning the bell to point vertical rather than horizontal but you keep it horizontal with no problem, how?
You should never flick the wrist at all. All you’re doing is accelerating the bell.
At least learn proper form before posting videos.
Thank Eric. Just when i was thinking about picking up this technique this week, this appears! Came right on time! Yay!
Lots of good points but there other key points to make particularly w a larger weight or for repetitions more than 10.
Jeff, how about exercises for men over sixty. No everyone is a young Spartan.
Easily the best instruction I’ve seen on the snatch. Excited to give it a try thanks!
Awesome video, very well explained and executed. What is the weight of the bell that you are using?
If you want to follow proper Kettlebell technique, make sure you keep the kettlebell closer to the center of the body on the way down so it lands back to the starting position. @ 4:37
How much the weight of kettlebell you used eric? Great video!
Don’t barbell cleans have the same impingement risks as upright rows?
I’ve watched maybe 6 kettlebell clean videos for the past week and I couldn’t perfect it. I watched your last night and been practicing and now I can do them lol. Now I’ll learn the snatch from you.
Just found your content joe
Inspirational!!!great technique and attitude
Thanks for the conformation. I started doing the cleans this way for the very reason you mentioned.
Entonces necesito esa muñequera porque estoi continuamente golpeandome el brazo??
Yes! This is how you do it! The only thing I’m missing (you’re doing it though) is where you grab the KB. Grab it “inward”.. (when grabbing with right hand..grab the KB more to the left)
I need help putting together a kettlebell routine, I hate cross fit and I every video I’ve watched doesn’t cover proper technique or grip so I can perform the exercises correctly. As motivated as I am to use kettlebells I need to proper training to see how each move works so I can improve my form. Can you put together a full kettlebell routine that covers all of the basic moves so I can practice the proper form so as I advance myself I will have my technique down?
Now you know the secrets to a good snatch, so get after it! Be sure to subscribe to my channel for weekly releases like this one!
& If you are ready to test out your skills and dive into a kettlebell program, you should check out my 8-week single kettlebell program!

I recently bought a few kettlebells and experienced banging into my wrist. This video helped me perform the move smoothly. I appreciate it!
Still don’t see how the kettlebell doesn’t hit your forearm. Trying this now and it is still banging.
