Done this today from memory, got it all wrong haha. I set it up nearer to shoulder height and had my arms bent! Needed this refresher, even if it is 9 years old! Cheers Scott.
Why not split firewood for real? I have an extra maul, you can join me anytime.
Hi, would you recommend doing these on every height of the cable machine to target different areas of the midsection? Also, if you stand facing the opposite side of the machine, would this target the back? Finally, I was told this exercise is not good for women as it will build the mid section, do you agree?
Блять иди нахуй чорт сука ебаный ты тупое хуйло ты придумал хуйню ты придурок ты осознаешь что ты блять сделал тебе пиздец иди нахуй йобаный сынок ты блять ты блять…
Whoever recorded this should have done a full body angle. This was poorly recorded and hard to follow.
i’m so glad i got rid of my tv in the corner livingroom and invested in a cable machine. You choose, 2 hours of tv or 2 hours of livin right and workin your ass
Is it bad to do that then the torso rotator machine? I hurt my lower back doing that. But it was already hurting before I went to the gym.
Never stop making this videos please. Workout out is great and getting swole is even better but what you do is go into depth on and show us, the audience, the correct form for each work out so we can get the maximum results we are looking for. Please continue studying the body and help us as viewers understand how each workout, and the way you perform each work out, can continuously help us reach our maximum goal.
As always, you’re great; breaking it down, well explained, no yelling or obnoxious music. Thanks!
I liked this guide for woodchoppers. Been struggling to consistently do it well.
Everyone I see doing this rotates their hips(and shoulders to some degree), if you are aiming for an ab/oblique exercise then why not isolate it and keep the hips and shoulders locked only rotating from the trunk?
This guy has fucked with my mind… the boston accent is there and not there does he have a twin??? Alternate reality??? I cant tell who he is anymore
Thank you for this good demonstration. I just learned that this is a good exercise for people who are 50 and older. I need to tone my abdomen, so I will start doing this to see if it helps me.
Based on the orientation of the fibers of the obliques, you’ll probably get more activation of the muscle and stronger contraction, if the hands started above your head. Take a look at this anatomy video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXa4U5oztsg
Never rotate your leg on your toe like that unless you want to get punched
Love the fact this guy doesn’t look like a juice head monkey his physique looks achievable for us guys who don’t do drugs lol
This channel is amazing!! Literally every workout that I do during my 5 day split I come here for the right form. Your content is so good, to the point hence easy to follow. I must have saved a fortune by not spending on a personal trainer thanks to these free videos. Amazing work Scott!!
Fuck after all these years i’m doing wood chopper wrong. Thanks Scott.
The cable kept touching my body and I knew i wasn’t doing it quite right! Thank you, now I know exactly what to do! My positioning was off a tad bit
I actually get this. Its pretty much like a batter’s stance as if you were stepping to homeplate. Love your vids man. I’ve been getting lessons in proper form from you for a while now.
If I feel more of a strain in my back leg while twisting, is the load too heavy for me to turn while maintaining my footing?
is one angle better than the other? (low to high vs high to low woodchops)
I have never done these in my life, thanks for recommending them in the story section of YT Scott. My obliques are nonexistent so it’s time to start taking that area of my body seriously.
FINALLY GOOD FORM ON YOUTUBE. i was looking to perfect my woodchop form but found 3 vids in a row showing BAD BAD FORM. like they didn’t know the meaning of RESISTANCE. you renewed my faith in bodybuilding and youtube. thanks
Just tried this out earlier today. Felt great. Thanks for this one Scott:D
Thanks Scott,
You are right on with your information and demonstrations. Your shoulder warmups have me feeling really good after exercising, also your comments concering elbow and shoulder positioning during certain lifts are helping me stay injury free. Thanks man.
CLICK THAT NOTIFICATION BELL SO YOU NEVER MISS AN UPLOAD!
This is my all time favorite oblique exercise to this day! The feeling of ripping and tearing them with this always feels AWESOME!!!
Thanks very much, clear simple advice. Too many channels give technical jargon. +1 subscriber!
This exercise has changed my life!! It was very difficult to do at first (not that it’s an easier or fun now but I definitely struggled more) but now I look forward to doing these bc I see the amazing results.
One again I had to pauseand press the like button for the awesome intro
This workout is GREAT for producing POWERFUL lead and rear hooks!
Hello. Thanks for this video.
Only one position is sufficient for obliques? I mean, a variation of the
cable low/mid (as you presented it) /high isn’t necessary?
Thanks a lot!
Do this everday and play baseball. Man, that ball gonna fly to the moon.
Yum. I’m cold. I need you to come chop some wood. Let’s start a fire.
You can also do this without the equipment using a self stretch resistance method. Adopt same position and do one series with hand arm pulling and other hand arm resisting. Then do the same except one hand arm is pushing and the other resisting then the reverse.
Added these to my oblique workouts. I felt I wasn’t doing them 100% correct but still felt a little burn. This video really helped, keep up the good work guys!
Trying to figure out how to do this on a home gym. I have a lat pull down on it and wonder if I can have a higher angle but still hit the obliques.
I’ve viewed dozens of your videos. Clear and concise, no time wasted, well done. Very helpful and thank you.
All thumbs down are for fat asses who cannot perform this exercise. Good Stuff Scott!
I did these today! Def felt amazing. How many times a week during workouts do you recommend doing these??
Good video. Like how someone brings up another way of doing it and you didn’t immediately bash it.
great video bud, should have waited till those useless jabber boxes in the background pissed off
if this explanation were water i sure as hell wouldn’t want to take a dive
Im not a pro but it just seems like there’s too much movement
I tried this, only got burns in my shoulders and arms. Does anyone have an idea what i might have down wrong?
MY FAVORITE 12 DUMBBELL EXERCISES: https://youtu.be/31OrSOYUvVg
Shirts are coming off, shirts are going on, people are changing, what’s going ONNNN?!?!?!
Just google woodprix 😉 I made my own thanks to woodprix instructions:)
Is this an exercise you can do everyday or should you rest 48 hours between workout days? How many sets?
great content, ive always seen this one done by people. looks like lots do it wrong. thanks!
The feet should be planted while the upper body ONLY does the twist.
Slow the speed way down-you don’t want momentum to take away the burn.
I’ve been doing them wrong this whole time. I let the weights fully go down, and I pivot.
Thank god you made this video guys, I really didn’t know how to activate oblique with this exercise, I hope I can fix the problem with this video, thanks a lot
Now I know how to do the exercise right after watching the video. Great information I needed to target my obliques correctly.
It’s like you read my mind, I’ve been looking for ways to hit the obliques
ive actually surprisingly never tried this one, only Russian Twists. going to give it a go tomorrow in the gym!
Only problem I have with this video was the ad, it was for Dominos pizza great info otherwise. Thanks
I can see doing it both ways. Stationary hips to work the obliques and moving hips to simulate throwing the shotput and discus.
I was literally lost today at the gym trying to think of a killer oblique workout, thank you
“let me tell you something right now” -famous words from the sal
Lol, this video was definitely demonetized because of that background music
So funny to see a video you uploaded today in 2018 and then catch these ones when you are like 12… haha!! Great stuff, man.
didnt really show the foot placement and give it an in depth explanation
3 guys standing around and having a fuckin mother’s meeting!!
Is there a app that lets you know how to do exercise and form like exercise for each body part
Nice job. Great demonstration, gives the impression you’re a great instructor. Very professional.
Hey Mindpump: Will you teach us the woodchop with the kettlebell? Thanks!
This is literally my favorite exercise at the gym! i have amazing Z lines LOL
I used to get a great feed back from doing these exercises then when I improved with only modest weight increase really screwed my knees.
Apparently the’re not designed for side stress. Took six months to come right. Don’t go there.
This has become one of my favourite movements lately. Nice demo Josh.
I like the way you guys break down the technique….Keep doing what you are doing because you are great…
My name is Korg. This is Meek. We’re going to do some cable wood chops. Want to come with?
The biggest problem with this exercise is that the arms and shoulders take over. Leaving nothing being done to the obliques.
Hi Scott, thanks for the video!
Sorry to criticize, but the camera is to close. Would you please make future video with the whole body in the frame so it would e.g. be possible to see in which direction the feeds face.
A static camera would also have advantages.
Thank you!
would you keep a slight bend in the knees or have your knees locked?
Always feels awkward when I do these, but defo will follow this demonstration thanks
agree. but locking the fingers together brings more strain, why not use the rope for triceps or bigger grip? Have been doing this exercise very good……, but the knuckles to knuckles is definatley not comfortable. I choose a wider handle or the ropes, doesn’t matter the type of handle, it only depends on the motion, bravo…keep it up!
Great videos guys!
Can I ask, there is a dumbbell or no cable version for this exercise? In my gym there isn’t a “mid height” cable (there’s a high cable, or low cable). Or other oblique exercise that could be easily loaded with resistance? Thanks guys anyways! Keep up the good videos:)
My Dawgs really workouing out in dad shoes and polo shirts⚰
I don’t think you’re gonna cut much wood with this technique, but goddamn if you’re not gonna look good afterwards
you are a perfect black queen babe, and your excercise are great
Very helpful. Finally understood the stance and the kinesis.
To say I’ve been doing these “wrong” would be a huge understatement. My footwork was nonexistent, so I was putting lots of torque on my lower back. Thank you!
More midsection vids thanks bro. I heard the standard crunches aren’t as good as other core workouts.
Perfect. I shall use this while holding my katana so that I may strike down my foes. Just one more technique to aid my blade studies.
Good explanation but not the right form. You got to keep your arms straightened with elbows locked at all times and not pivot is needed. The foot just needs to be pointed out with the direction you are rotating as not to hurt your knees. Keep the body straight is key as this provides a resistance as you rotate your torso that targets obliques. Hope it helps.
Thanks so much for this video. Very informative compared to many of the others I’ve come across.
sILLY GIRL! THIS MOVEMENT IS dangerous. compress spine & no abs.
just look at the pressure… it in ON the spine. D/B WORK IN OPPOSITION TO GRAVITY. to make it an ab movement must hang horizontal. maybe off the hyperextension rack.
great demo, I’ve been doing these with an un-resistant exercise band and since I don’t own a cable machine, I’m going to try these thanks Kai!
I can just see hammer throwers using this to improve their technique when they’re winding up to throw.
Dope Video. I did the work out and it’s helping my body improve. I definitely feel it in my abs. Thanks.
I’ve been trying to do all three bottom to top, top to bottom, an the side wood chop. Is it necessary to do all three?
It’s simple, Just go to woodprix page and enter the Wood World.
Well articulated. great teacher! I’m a trainer in the making and appreciate your videos! keep it up!
This is a very nice video but I’m sorry to tell that this isn’t the correct way to do the woodchopper. The focus of this exercise lies in the obliques yet you are not actually using them. The exercise consists out of 3 movements: a twist, a squat and a pulldown with straight arms so analyse how the muscles in those exercises work and then you will figure out where you went wrong.
Greetings
I’ve seen this video a few years ago and have done woodchoppers this way ever since. It’s good to rewatch it to refresh my memory in case I forgot a tip. Love your form and explanation Scott. The way you do it is in a very athletic stance, great for training the hips. Love the functionality of it and it hits the obliques harder, excuse me haddah!! ♂️
I would buy the phone case if you had it for iPhone 11 Pro not pro max pro is smaller than both Max and 11
This video shows in detail the most efficient method to carry the exercise. It corrected a number of errors I was not aware of. Many, many thanks.
If I feel pain in my shoulders and elbows, can I set the cable to shoulder height and bend my elbow?
pff it’s about the obliques. if you move your entire body like that, you haven’t acomplished shit
i came to learn the woodchop and stayed for everything else.
Super models/models should be looking like that, not anorexic or overweight people.
Thanks Kai for the precise instructions and demo. That’s an exercise I’m not familiar with but want to try it out as it looks like it works the body through all 3 planes of movement.
WANT TO STRENGTHEN YOUR OBLIQUES? WATCH THIS! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPONcEAgxgs&t=27s
I’ve been watching many, many videos on dumbbell woodchopping and you explain and demonstrate it the BEST. Your explanation is phenomenal, so keep it up, thank you!!
Nice explanation. I was doing the exercise while my whole core and lower body are stationary. Will try your method.
your precision in explaining these exercises is greatly appreciated
These don’t work without cables. There’s no resistance in just moving a dumbbell like that.
Now I get it. It is like golf rather than slashing with a katana
