I used to do step workouts many years ago and loved it. So here’s my plan, I going to buy a new step and follow Jenny ford.
Will it lead to health hazards, if I do it twice a day? Say 30 min in the morning and repeat session in the evening??

6:24 I don’t have any of those bars (don’t even know what to call them to search Amazon for them), but I have a doorframe pullup bar like the one he has at 6:51, so I just draped a thick towing chain over the two neutral-grip handles that stick out towards the user and pull myself up like that to complete the first exercise. (Just thought I’d share in case someone else doesn’t have them or know where to get them either.)

Cheers for this, been searching for “calisthenics only workout” for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across Jamescan Calisthenics Caboshed (do a google search )? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my cousin got excellent success with it.
Good circuit for beginners, not too strenuous but can make anyone get a sweat on if you turn up.the intensity.
The fact that it can be done anywhere really helps.

Why is the lady in burgundy doing her own version of some of the workout? It is a bit distracting.
Does the plank count as the easiest/1st step for hinge type of exercises? I’ve found that I can’t even do one lying tuck properly (my back arches up), I can hold a plank for 1.5 minutes though.
EDIT: Just did the workout, 1.5 minutes is only when it’s the only exercise performed. Can’t hold more than 45 seconds if I do negative pullups/squats/pushups beforehand, I guess that means I have weak core.

I am currently at day 8 of my weight loss journey and used your video for a workout and I have to say it was hard the first two times, but today I actually got through the WHOLE video without stopping! because i’m rlly weak and overweight, i’ve decided to warm up with this workout every morning
every week i bump it up to an additional round! last week was only one round, and for this week it will be two rounds. i’ll keep doing it until i reach 10 rounds! (in 10 weeks). i’ll also try to eat less and more healthier. i wonder what i can accomplish in 10 weeks?:)

Really like the different style of crunches, this is actually exactly what I was looking for. I used to work out all the time in high school but got lazy and am now 28, hitting a weight that I’m really not proud of at all. So the plan is about 30 minutes a day until 30 minutes is too easy. Here we go…
edit and the first day of working out went well but holy shit… I used to easily do 100 crunches in a row and I couldn’t even barely do the ten in this video. How embarrassing. I’ve also got a killer headache now, I think from straining so hard to do those crunches. Super unpleasant. Hopefully I can just stay motivated and force myself to do this every day though. If only I had a friend like the guy in this video, he’s friendly and motivating.
This is a very helpful video. I didn’t know how to start calisthenics and get a little confused and lost during my research my initial plan is to focus on four exercises until I master them before going to the intermediate level and thankfully your instructions made my plan executionanble with goal.

I loved doing step workouts in the 90’s. I remembered what a great workout it was and started looking for new ones a couple of months ago. When I found you on Amazon and YouTube, I started doing step and your marching workouts. I love how you are motivating without being intimidating.
Hand stands are but can you help me understand why that is. I really want to begin handstand practice. Loved as a younger person but I never knew why it was helpful for my body. I suffer back pain. I would imagine that it would be very helpful for back pain.
This is what I needed. I’m a certified trainer, service vet, used to play sports so fitness isn’t a stranger to me. However, calisthenics is and I have been really wanting to learn more and get into it. I’ve used weights throughout the majority of my journey, but I want to learn to master my body and its natural strength. Problem I had was a lot of videos weren’t always clear so I appreciate this break down a lot. Some of the information I knew, but it was helpful to see the progressions, and what a circuit can look like. I was doing 6-8 exercises per workout, not 4 lol so that helped put things in perspective as far as investment on time, and what is needed. Sometimes I’m overly aggressive with my goals.
I am wondering, was 4 the suggested number only for beginners? As you become more advanced, does the number of exercises increaseor just the advancement of them?

It’s very rare to find any form of exercise (or really anything) I can do without my medical shoes on but I got through the whole 30mins on the first go barefoot. I’m disabled from the Achilles tendon up and because I have a surprising amount of limitations, I’m well overweight (which puts more pressure on my disability). Had difficulty figuring out how to do the kicks in the tiny space I have to work in tho haha
Gained quite a bit of weight during quarantine from depression and just being inside all the time, finally bought an aerobics bench and this video worked so well! I had to stop at 20min though, will do it everyday and hopefully get back to my old weight!
Great video, well explained, I love it! One question, you talked about explosive movements for the push ups and pull ups. Would it not be better to be slow in the eccentric movement and then explosive in the concentric movement? For example the push up, go down 2s, hold for 2s and then go fastly up? I like the video BUUUUUT, the dude doing bench press is wrong. Bench press i actually a compound movement, it shall involve arching, buttocks, bridge (with ass as a touchdown point) etc. So I and of course many other people will disagree. Provide a thorough example of a Bench press. please:)

This is great! I really enjoy doing the exercises. Usually I get bored easily with classes/gym. I miss my aquafit. I find it difficult in lockdown to do anything. This is a great low impact work for a transplant recipient.:) hopefully it can help me lose some weight too x
Wha do you think about a circuit where I do: Dips, squats, push-ups, chin-ups, hanging leg raises X 5 times. it would take me between 15 and 20 minutes? I was doing this workout last summer 4-5 times / week.
First time i did this around 2 weeks ago i had to pause 2 times to catch my breath and have a sip of water, i gave up at the mark of 20 mins mainly cause I couldn’t get my breathing under control and felt really fatigued. Now i tried again and made it to the end without pausing. Just shows you have good and bad days when it comes to working out!

I did 17 minutes. It’s my first day doing your step. I’m using stairs inside my house because of the Lockdown. Your program is nice and clear. I’ll gradually finish the whole class. Are you suppose to to every exercise to failure? Then progress to the harder variation of the exercise, and again do them to failure?

Hey guys. I was hoping you could give some advice to a rookie. I Just bought 2 handweights and been working out at home for a month now. I do 50 pushups, 15-20 curls, 15-20 chest press, 15-20 shoulder press, 30 tricep dumbbell kickback, 20 dumbbell raise and 45 bench dips. I do this routine 3 times. My question is am i waisting my time? Should i rather spent the hour in a gym doing exercises like in this video?

Serious question here. Why is the upper body push pull but lower body is only push. The pulling of the hamstring is always neglected but shouldn’t be. Even beginners will benefit greatly from push and PULL of lower body. Just my opinion

In a month, I lost 5-6 kg (by doing keto diet at the same time), and shaped my body a bit. Super nice exercises and easy to do. When I lost few kg, I felt like I don’t have energy to do more. Initially I could do some exercises easily, now its getting harder. What caused that?

Don’t train for a six pack abs, but train for a strong core. six packs abs will follow. It’s like the recipe for women. If you be the best version of yourself, women will follow.
I used to do a lot of step aerobics in the 90s and loved it. I’m trying again now (heading towards 60). Wow that made me sweat. Just had a couple of marching it out breaks but my goal is to finish it without the march out

Me a few days later doing the workout: *cant do more than 6 pull-ups per set. Sweating like a pig after doing 10 one leg squats on each leg, and doing poopoo form hanging knee to chest…gets nauseous after 4 sets of the circuit
Only thing that was easy was the 10 reps of pushups. My ego has left the chat ♂️

This is a brilliant work out, I used to do this in another life (long ago). Fortunately I still had my step and had a go. First time I managed 22 minutes second time 25 minutes, now I can do 30 minutes I love it.

For those who prefer written instructions, here is what I gleaned from watching the video a few times.
General Instructions
Start wherever you need to in the progression for each section. For example, some people might start with 1 for pull, push, and hinge, and 2 for squat.
Do reps until failure or you hit the target. The target is listed with the movement (eg pull-ups x10). Push and Hinge targets are all 10 reps.
Between reps, take a few deep breaths and start the next movement immediately if able. If you need more time between reps then take it. Remember, quality over quantity.
Rest for at least 2 minutes between circuits when first starting out. As you progress, reduce the rest to 1-2 minutes.
Level up when you are able to hit the target number of reps for a movement for all 4 circuits.
Equipment

Warm-Up
2 minutes of cardio, choose 1:
1. Jumping jacks
2. Burpees
3. Mountain climbers
4. Jump rope
Pull
1. Bent-leg bodyweight rows with dip bar x10
2. Straight-leg bodyweight rows with dip bar x10
3. Pull up negatives x5
4. Assisted pull-ups (with resistance band) x10
5. Pull-ups x10
6. Tucked front-level pull-ups
Squat
1. Half squat (thighs almost parallel) x30
2. Full squat x30 (optional calf raise)
3. Hop squat x20 (target not listed in video but I’ve put 20 here to match what he says for lunges)
4. Lunge x20
5. Switching lunges
6. Tuck-jump squats
Push
10 reps
1. Wall push-ups
2. Incline push-ups (use stairs, chair, etc)
3. Standard push ups
4. Diamond push-ups
5. Archer push-ups
6. Clapping push-ups
Hinge
10 reps
1. Lying Tucks (lying on the floor with legs extended, tuck your knees into your chest)
2. Lying leg raises
3. Hanging knee raises
4. Hanging leg raises
5. Inverted leg raises (headstand with leg ‘raises’)
Cooldown
Move around, do something very light, don’t just sit on the couch.
great vid. I would do the lunges stepping back instead of forward to save the pressure on the knee.
Nope, can’t do those crunches (which is terrifying, I used to be pretty fit) but I’ll get there love your attitude
I did 3 circuits of:
Negative Pull-Ups: 5 reps
Full Squats: 40 reps
Regular Push-Ups: 12 reps
Lying Leg Raises: 10 reps
I struggled terribly & felt like vomiting towards the end after eating fast food.
Hopefully, I can do all the circuits with appropriate form and adequate rest! Let’s go!

Great workout!! Moves are simple & easy to understand. Have saved this one to along with my other workouts to do during the week.
I m 34yrs old, 6ft tall. I was a sportsman and maintained weight at 72kgs for about 10yrs. But due to personal problms, jobs, etc i left sports n almost all exercise for about 1 yrs or more. I m noticing that my wieght is gradually increasing (presently 78kg), but more importantly the form n v shape is fading. Kindly recomend me a routine tht i follow regularly at home, without weights or gym so as to keep toned up.

Is there a rep range to the circuit or are each of them to failure?
Hello guys. May I know whether once we are able to do the stated amount of reps for a certain workout, are we supposed to move to the next workout although I can’t do the complete set of reps for the next workout? for example, i can do a standard push ups for 10 reps but the next progression of diamond push ups i can only do about 5 to 6 in one go, so do I just build from here or how?

Yay! Great, concise explanation and unpretentious presentation! My only problem is: My wrists don’t handle the floor well, there’s a lot of pressure on the bottom ends(?) of my hand, and I’m not sure if I should work against that discomfort or change something. It doesn’t seem like I can redistribute the weight evenly through my hand. It doesn’t really hurt (yet) but I feel like it will soon. Help?

Tried it again for a second time and I really like this workout but again very difficult to follow as when I turn my back to do some of the moves I have a hard time doing the next move. I feel like I have to do my own thing because I don’t wanna lose my stamina. You doing the workout facing the audience makes it that much more difficult. I’m not giving up and I will try again!
I think off days are really really good for flexibility and anyone can benefit from doing that. I think that should be stressed since if you stretch right your not necessarily putting undue strain on your muscles…
I’m going to do this because I am in desperate need of losing weight! Question though, for optimal weight loss should I do this before or after I eat? Like if I did it first thing in the morning should it be on an empty stomach? There is so much information out there I feel so lost

I am from Pakistan. Bhai itne kamzoor kyon ho. Vegetarian bodybuilder ho kia? Nodoubt you are ripped, but in our gym 90% guys have bigger muscle size than yours. Even I do have double the size than yours. Maybe you are over training your body.

Holy hell! I’ve been doing yoga for a long time, so my muscles had no problems with what was happening. But my heart rate, wow! After 8 minutes it felt like my heart was exploding, but I decided to power through. I tried this workout again for a third time and it’s not easy to follow at all. The ladies are all doing different steps. They aren’t following the instructor making it harder to follow. Also notice a few times you say 3 knees but in fact your doing 1 knee and 3 pulse. I’m a little disappointed because I really like the steps. I will try the other video tmrw and see how it is.
It’s lucky I’m a postal worker because you get a lot of cardio running steps.

It’s been 3 years i haven’t yet done the arthroscopic surgery which I’m planning to do sometimes next year. Can i do all your exercises? I stopped doing your workout after couple of days as I hated doing Burpees lol.
But couple weeks ago I found certain someone that made me fall in love with burpees. Now that I think about it your workout is definitely the best anyone can find. It’s simple, it got covered chest, triceps, biceps, legs, cardio and abs in one small workout. Awesomeness!!
Edit: Forgot to mention I’m gonna start this tomorrow and try to manage all fifteen intervals before next month starts or atleast 8 intervals would be nice. Haha Good Video.

When i change progrssion for a movt from ex1 to ex2, i will not be able to get ten reps right away, do you recommend working in like single reps up to 10 till i can do ten straight or doing one set of 5 or 6 and then moving on to the next exercise and trying to get max reps up every workout till i get the movt for 10 reps across all 4 circuits?

Wait I am 14 years old and I used to weigh 148 but I lost 11 pounds then I started working out and i am way stronger but I barely have a two pack but I can do alot of core workouts good so am I ready for calisthenics.

Hi to everyone just starting this out! I just finished my first workout which was 4 circuits. I kinda finished the whole thing within 15mins. Is that okay? I didn’t take 2-min breaks but more on 30-secs to 1-min breaks. I’ve been doing bodyweight exercises for almost 3 weeks now so I think i’m still at a beginner level. How long did it take you to finish your circuits when you first started? (I also used bridges for 20-secs instead of pull-ups and 20reps of leg raises)
Hey minus the gym I have just subed but i have a question. There are 4 categories and let’s say we take the pull category. You show us a couple of exercises negetives pull up on a dip bar so my question can I put more exercises in one category and which ones and how many raps should I do for every exercise. I have been training for 2 week 3 days training every week but i did not do a full body workout 2 days Australian pull ups and 1 day dips and between these days i traint my abs. I use to love taking step classes in the late 90s early 2000s great workout lots of fun, then they faded away and all these other classes started becoming popular and I lost interest in exercising and going to gym.

Hoi, ik ben nogal nieuw. Ik trainde net maanden in de sportschool toen de lockdown ontstond. Ik liep wel iedere dag al gemiddeld 2uur intens aan stuk op krukken per dag. Hierdoor 27kg kwijt in 3.5maand. Krukken heb ik Ivm een beenamputatie. Ben lichaam is eigenlijk al bijna vetvrij en aardig spiermassa. Ik begon door de lockdown thuis, pushups naast kracht en lopen te doen. Minimaal 1000 per dag met sessies van 60 per x. Ik merk echter dat mijn kracht voor een pull-up nog niet aanwezig is. Hoe kan ik die doormiddel van lichaamsgewicht opbouwen? Ik merk dat ik nogal zweef tussen de overload aan info overal. Maar mijn motivatie is bizar, vooral door mn lichaamsverandering. Ik heb dus ook maar een been maar zie dat niet als beperking met deze sport. Ik heb veel respect voor jullie. Tips zijn welkom. Gr Roel

As a true beginner I found this poor. I recomend you actually show the moves at the beginning and you are constantly saying form, what form? This made me so frustrated, you dont know your audience very well. Nothing about it motivating or energizing. I will search for true beginner classes and then maybe return after I have learned the basics including form.

Thx man…Im jus starting I had a bad opiate addiction and finally beat it and been clean 7 months and have bulked up almost 40lbs but I haven’t been working out just eating as much as I can to put weight on…i was very sickly I was 135 lbs and I’m 6ft 4…but now I’m up to 175 and starting to build muscle with ur exercise routine…sorry for the long comment but I jus found u and u gave me exactly what I needed…u seem like a cool dude and not judgemental at all…thx bud

Too many reps, that’s why you don’t grow muscle. You should also rethink your form. Check the channel FitnessFAQs, you have a lot to learn from him before teaching anyone.

Thank you so much for this workout! I used to do Kathy Smith step workouts many years ago, and this was just as good. I had to break it into segments, but this was my first workout after months of inactivity and I’m in my 50s. I welcome the challenge to do the entire workout without breaks.

Stopped exercising during lockdown but need to kick myself back into gear this was a great starter to move myself will definitely try and do this one a couple of times each day to build my stamina back up

I enjoyed this workout. Thank you for posting it! To those who are struggling there are a few other channels that offer some much more basic step workouts. You might want to try those out and come back to this when you’ve become more comfortable. Don’t give up though, you’ll get the hang of it!

I feel this class is intermediate with all the “special” steps added. If you cannot stick to the basic beginner way then allow someone else because it throws us beginners off when you improvise.

I don’t know why, but I can’t find this in LA. Last class I did was at a YMCA over a decade ago. Quite sad Zumba, spin and yoga seem to have taken over.

It would be so much better if your video had louder music. It’s hard to be motivated when it’s very much background. I know we need to hear the directions, but the music is just too low.

Wow. Super effective. I tried it for the first time and yes… I finished it but in pain and sweat. Also nice the little cool down and stretch. Thanx a lot

I can do 30-40 clean pushups but I struggle at doing just 10 pull-ups:c

Anyone else here doing some covid-19 workouts? I feel and have always felt like those two women diagonally going back in any class that requires coordination.

I love this video, for the first time ever I see real people. not just silm people working out I love the lady in the purple top, she is not trying to be perfect but she keeps trying and she doing amazing, and the other lady behind her who is also a large lady is working it, these two inspire me, sending to my Big SisTars now.

Nice video, as usual. Ill keep it in the repertoire. I think our rec staff is about to ditch the 25-30 green “Step” benches and risers soon. But I dont see how $30 is expensive either, unless where that person lives the shipping is $150!
