Hello one year later, i want to go to the gym but i am really scared, because my parents most my mom wants me to ( only the first time ) have like a ”teacher” that goes around the whole gym and explains how the machines work, and i’m really scared that everyone Will judge me Because If I want to go there i wanna be alone and not talk to anybody, and now I ( maybe ) has to have a teacher that is going to talk to me infront of everybody so everyone Will know that I’m new there. ok, so i’m a bigger guy. about 330 currently. but thankfully not all fat. at my skinniest i was about 260 and pretty much solid muscle (I was in the army in iraq at the time) i’m also 6’3″ if i got back down to a manageable weight, would it be feasible for me to start rock climbing? i’ve always been really interested in it and have climbed rock bluffs and things when on the coast. i’m sure that’s much easier than a rock wall, but i’ve always had in interest in climbing.

Before you start, you feel like everybody is judging you. Until a week or two and then it become the only place you feel you won’t get judged
Not to be a downer but really annoys me when people say no ones looking at you in the gym had to quit my gym because one of the people who works there would follow me about and try and talk to me and ask me out constantly, like everyday.
Being short has it’s advantages and disadvantages. Good for weight/grip ratio but when long reaches are needed I have to often jump more.

I am pretty overweight for my age and i was always so scared to go bc of other ppl jugding me but i LOVED IT..as soon as i came the owner/trainer was do kind to show me around and give me a begginer workout while explaining how to use certain machines and the ppl at the gym were minding their own workouts and didn’t really care about what am i doing which suprised me if you are still debating on should you go or not remember this: those who want it will always find a way and those who don’t want it always find an exuse!!!

Something to keep in mind make sure to stretch before and after! Doing it before warms up your muscles and after is a way to cool down.

I definitely started out using the treadmills. Eventually I got bored. So I started switching days of cardio and weight machines. I definitely would try to watch “without watching” people use the machines. Thank God at the time I went 5:30am. The people were so friendly. I’d have people encouraged me when on the treadmill. The weight machines there was an employee who got use to seeing me and he would suggest different things for me. Either more reps less weight or more more weights less reps. He was very helpful. I was always too afraid of the free weights for sure. I never entered that room. Unfortunately time, life and family events got in the way. It’s been over 2 years definitely unfortunately gained all the weight back I worked so hard to lose. Thankfully i will be getting a treadmill from someone my mom knows since I just moved closer to her. It’s very intimidating at first but eventually you get to a point where you think I’m here for me and start to enjoy going

My gym has everything, it has free weights area, it has cardio area, the normal weight machines, it has kickbox/fight room, it has a room for grouplessons which looks like a dancestudio it has saunas, tanningbeds a pool, cycling class, everything EXCEPT for an open free area for you to do whatever you want. Its so annoying

climbing gives you different vibes that somehow can change your outlook in life.
You only mentioned top rope and bouldering when there is also lead climbing and free solo climbing and free base climbing though free base is not recommended.

Sometimes when i change the lat pulldown bar, I will put the weight on the lightest setting and pull the cable down to change it so i don’t have to balance on the squishy seat

After years of putting off going to the gym because my social anxiety would hit the roof just thinking about it, I finally picked up my lady balls and went and oh my lord I dont know what I was scared of! At first when I walked in I was intimidated but 1 of my friends said to just take some headphones and a good playlist in my phone and block out the rest and so I did. Went alone, asked the trainers who work at the gym on how to use the machines, he gave me a run down and off I went with my headphones in.
First thoughts I had when I walked in was: “omg everyone in here is going to look and laugh at me, turn around and go home”
Last thoughts before I walked out the gym doors: “Wow everyone is in their own world and actually doesn’t give 2 flying F’s that Im here. Im going again!”
Honestly, I dont know why I took so long to go. People are there for the same reason, themselves! Their own personal goals! They dont care about you. Once I was in my own zone I found I didnt care what others were doing either.

my city/ village or whatever has a little gym. our school does a gym group you get to go there for free once a week for 7-9th graders. it teaches you very well about how to use the machines and stuff. also my dad goes to the gym with me and is kinda a personal trainer for me.

FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WORRYING ABOUT GETTING JUDGED.
I was 14, 4’9″ male, 280 lbs. Do the math, look at the chart. I was morbidly obese asf. I had my health reasons growing up in several factors that lead me there. I got judged in the hallways and in school as a fatty all the time.
In the gym, no one can say a single bad thing about you. You, by putting in effort, are in a way putting in more effort than most people there. The ones who get fitness in the gym are going to want to encourage you. Its initially scary, but don’t look at the faces. If you really wanna tune everyone out, I recommend a big hoodie that will give you some tunnel vision, so you only see whats in front of you, and maybe some headphones. worrying about judgement at the gym creates circular, looping logic that repeats the same patterns. break the pattern and sweat your ass off. I’m 170lbs and 5’4 at 26 and coming around again. it can be done.

Even if i decide one day to walk to the gym, i still feel like a question mark mainly because I’m not sure what exercises to perform. I wanna focus mainly on strength and cardio (including HIIT cardio). But as a beginner… where should i really start? Do i just walk in, warm up and then lift? Which dynastic warmups should i do ect and should i begin with bodyweight, machines?

If I be honest I go gym to spend time with my 18 yearold son mainly. He is really into aesthetics. He goes everyday and over the past 6-8 months is unrecognizable body size wise. Building myself up a bit and getting healthy is something I really want to do. But I feel like a spare wheel at the gym. Kind of out of place. I find it hard moving past ” this is something I do to have quality time with my son” to ” this is something I want to do for me”

Well I have a problem, I’m 14 and I might start going to the gym but I’m scared people will judge me because I’m 14 and i look even younger because I’m 4’7” ;-;
1. Wake up
2. Stay in bed for 2 more hours contemplating about life and that time you got beat-up by thugs or why you are fat
3. Get out of bed
4. Make a coffee
5. Drink it
6. Get dehidrated
7. Caffeine kicks in and anxiety moves in
8. Get a blood sugar drop and eat everything on site until arms stop tremoring
9. Get sleepy again after eating
10. Play on phone for 3 hours
11. Hate yourself for not having energy
12. Cry for being fat, single and lazy
13. Stare at the stationary bike that you dry your underware on and contamplate about doing some cardio
14. Out of 140 345 001 situations you actually get on
15. Do 7 minutes, feel exhuasted and quit
16. Staying with the sweat on till bedtime
17. Skip shower, play on xbox until 4 am
18. Go to bed
19. Think about life for 2 more hours until falling asleep
20. Enjoying nightmare about getting obese.

just a tip, if you’re not planing to work out on an athletic level, like boddybuilding and stuff, you don’t need protein shakes or powder, if you eat like a normal human and you work out with the intention to get in shape or lose some fat, the extra protein wont do shit because if you eat three meals a day with healthy food you’re gonna get more protein than your body needs for the workout

Can you turn this into a serious? Like all beginners work outs to start building muscle/strength.
