I don’t know how people get constipated eating this way? From the first day in April 2019 to now….nope, it’s like a flush. I do NOT go after fiber or eat anything high in fiber anyways. I usually get only 4 10 grams of fiber a day and am fine. I actually feel my best with little to no fiber, fiber makes me bloated, diarrhea, dehydrated, peeing a lot because of dehydration, drinking a lot because of peeing…up all night peeing. You get the hint. I am finding even avoiding kale makes me feel better all day and night. I’m believing the “fiber myth” is real, as in, it’s just a myth. Our ancestors did not scavenge all day to get 28 grams of fiber a day. Inuit do not get any fiber pretty much.

Sauerkraut is good. Get the raw kind from a health food store (Mom’s Organic Market, etc) or make your own. If it is in a can or a package from a grocery store, it is pasteurized and the probiotics have been killed.

Prunes is a quick fix that works but dry fruits arent keto and the problem long term isn’t addressed but it beats stomach cramps.

I think like most people all are defining is constipation is that with a low-carb diet or keto diet you do not get the overwhelming urge to go. And when you go because you’re eating low fiber or low-residue the volume of the stool is much less as a matter of fact sometimes even coming out like rabbit pellets. On another note you brought out MCT oil I just started taking it yesterday and have suffered the Limited diarrhea and if you happen to be cooking and using coconut oil and you take the MCT just this morning I became rapidly tachycardic beating so fast I can hardly count but it was between 150 and 180 beats a minute. As a tribute to my coronary vasculature I suffered no tightness or pain or anything in my chest and after a few minutes at slow down to about 90. I reviewed what literature I can find on this and evidently this is common with people who are sensitive to MCT and or if you take MCT along with coconut oil it can cause arrhythmias. There is also the chance that I took a little too much because I did not measure I just kind of poured a little bit into my coffee cup. But I think this is a serious warning with regards to the potential side effects. Because if I had had any pre previous arrhythmias or cardiovascular disease it could have been a lot worse.

Carbs go through your system the fastest. So people with high carb diets are going to go more. Also, a lot of people don’t realize that you pee out fat not poop it. So of course on a higher fat diet you’ll poop less.
Too much cheese can constipate some people. I only have it a couple times a week anyway. Pork has always done the same, for me, for whatever reason.
I think we should pay attention to how we feel. If you just haven’t pooped in a couple days, you’re probably fine. If you feel backed up, you might wanna try some natural remedies. Like Metamucil or Seena(if it’s you’re first time using Seena tea. I’d only drink half and save the rest. It can be too powerful for some people.) A lot of other laxatives can cause your body to become dependant on them to go. Making things worse.

So, I think ketogenic diet is a winter diet. Harsh winter, the winter where you don’t really sweat. People who live in a warm to hot climates shouldnt really do keto because they will keep loosing a lot of minerals with sweat without replenishing them naturally.

I just have a coffee with milk as a quick fix solution… the carb content of milk in a small tea cup of coffee is minimal (5 mg) so you should be fine and still on ketosis… as the milk is important as that is what breaks down the stomach… even if throws you out of ketosis it’s for a couple of hours max… small price to pay

Constipation and bloating have been big problems for me since starting keto. I need to monitor the hydration, potassium and magnesium more closely, but I’m hoping adding the Muniq shakes to my diet will be a problem fixer. The ACV and psyllium husk fiber wasn’t helping and my stomach would get so big after a few days so I’ve been using a dulcolax pill every 3 days.
My friend says that “it hurts so much” when I enter the ‘back door’ with my powerhouse drill. But I’m not the one who talks about a bowel movement by saying “I just dropped a few brown logs”. That’s not a happy time, particularly when I find them on the bathroom floor.

Doctor, i followed your interview with Ivor Cummings June 2019 and iam trying to find out why my doctor has me on statins after my stent of 2014..! Constipation was a make-or-break keto issue for me as it led to actual impaction and total inability to move, requiring enema. Now I take 1 tablespoon of psyllium husk in 1/2 cup water with each of two keto meals a day, sipping at intervals to mix it well with the food. I follow that with 1 tablespoon of chia seeds in water. Outstanding results. It is hopeful to think that this may not be necessary as I get farther along in fat adaptation. Many thanks for all that you do.

I’ve done the Psy husks for years. They worked much better (for me) when I was on sugar. Now I add FG magnesium sulfate (Epsom Salts) if I lock up. It actually works best for me. Years ago, I remember an Adkins trainer saying, “If your turds don’t float, you are not getting enough fiber!”

The first 2 months, this was a huge issue for me, even though I started taking inulin every day. I heard a keto YouTuber say that it can be your gut bacteria having to re-balance to be more of non-sugar feeding guys. That must have been it, because I now eat less veggies, no inulin, and go regularly. Carnivore dieters have good points about fibre not helping the way we’ve been told. I believe them now.

Great tips for constipation. Not sure about tip no. 3 Fibre though. There does not appear to have any science to show that fibre helps bowel movement. In fact fibre might have the opposite effect as it makes the stools larger and therefore harder to pass through

Thank you for taking on this taboo subject. I want to share with you and your other subscribers what has helped me. It is in line with what you are saying in your video. I have added magnesium, digestive enzymes, L-Carnitine and buffered Vitamin C to my daily vitamins. This has been extremely helpful with regularity and comfort. I also would like your opinion on whether or not to consider adding potato starch to your diet? I have read that this can be helpful in promoting healthy gut bacteria.

Fiber both soluble and insoluble is actually the cause for digestive issues even in small quantity in a ketogenic diet. Our colon can no longer process fiber as well as herbivores. The small amount of ketones we get from short chain triglycerides via microbiome does not outweigh the benefits. There are also anti-nutrients, lechtins, oxalates, etc that some are more sensitive to than others. There is also FODMAPS that we need to be aware of. Try ZCHF keto (carnivore) for a few weeks and you would be surprised that any digestive issues and any other complications that LCHF keto can’t address may just get resolved. There may be a 1-week microbiome adjustment period but will be smooth sailing after. Dr Paul Mason and Dr Paul Saladino go into the scientific data analysis as fiber not being an essential just like how carbohydrate is a non-essential for humans.

I’m not positive about this any scientists out there? I just ferment my own it’s really simple and you can control the type of salt used and the flavor/texture based on how long you ferment.

There is no info backing up your theory. You have given no facts. Nothing saying where you got your information. So all this is, is just a theory of yours. Just about any good source of soluble fiber (applesauce, psyllium husk, oatmeal, maca powder) contains carbs.
Prior to a colonoscopy, I was given a prescription for polyethylene glycol 3350 NF. Instead of cleaning out my intestines, it locked them up like concrete. I’m wondering if anyone else has used this product and what their results were. It is water soluble and I believe more of a hydrating lubricant type of laxative. I do not believe the body could use it as an energy source carbohydrate or metabolize it.

All of this makes me question Keto. Maybe just a low carb diet ♂️. More veggies, some healthy facts, some complex carbs, and some protein. Just don’t eat trash. Don’t over eat. Plus Intermittent Fasting.
You guys are great…love your videos! Great advice yet some of these supplements are costly so, I go with the one least expensive, chia seeds! Seems chia seeds are helping. I’ll try adding them to my yogurt! I think my core muscles aren’t working properly since I’ve been constipated all of my adult life. What do you think about the herb, Cascara Sagrada? I use it periodically best thing I’ve found, really works. I read mixed reviews about it…some Drs say it’s wonderful, to, others, who’ve said it can cause cancer. Don’t know what to believe on that one??? Thanks mucho! Xx
I noticed that when I added 1 tbsp of MCT Oil to my routine that it helped to normalize my digestion. Before that I was almost starting to get concerned because my fiber was so low. I have started to try to get at least 9-10g a day of fiber in my diet to see how that impacts the diet. Undetermined results, but it has not adversely impacted my digestion.

Make yourself a keto cocoa. Mix 25g of unsweetened cocoa powder with boiling water and whatever you want and drink it. You can go to the toilet after.

I’m mostly carnivore now but I do eat apples, partly as a treat but they also move things right along. Sadly, most vegetables are high in oxalates, which might be problematic.

I put a little Himalayan salt to my food. Isn’t that enough? I have high blood pressure so I try and keep it under 1500 MG a day.
Careful with the chia seeds. There is at least one report of a man getting an esophageal obstruction and I am personally aware of a lady who had surgery for a bowel obstruction after consuming too much chia seeds. Take as directed!

WRONG!!!!!!!!!! Bulk while you are constipated will do nothing but clog you up worse than you already are. If you are dehydrated on top of constipated you have had it if you do the Chia seeds as you recommended.

Yes. Constipation was the first issue I had to deal with after I started keto.
I eat chia seed pudding when I notice that I’m not as regular and they really do help. I have noticed sometimes that they can irritate my stomach, but I know that they are healthy and will give me the results that I want in the bathroom!
Is there a minimum length of time that is safe/ok to NOT poop? It’s been 4 days now…it just seems too long! I don’t feel bloated at all and feel fine..but I was used to daily excrement! I will for sure do the salt, avocado, and other ideas here…
I’ll probably do all. I’m so sick of this rock hard stool of mine, to the point that i’m thinking of giving up on keto. But i will try these tips first tho and we’ll see.

It works!!! I made a stew with chicken broth and spinach-ELECTROLYTES and I had a half of avocado-POTASSIUM and than I had little bit of broccoli and mixed greens-FIBER. And some CHIA SEED to get it all going.
No dairy, no meat.

Hey Thomas, I think I may be dehydrated because I wake up with muscle cramps in my legs. There is mucus in my stool, I think, it looks like phlegm (whitish and soft). I have begun taking minerals and psyllium husk pills recently, so I will see if this helps. The mucus, I think, in my stool kind of freaks me out. Thanks.

Started taking a magnesium citrate with my evening meal, fixed the constipation right up.
This was helpful (and very timely). I’m new to a Lo-Carb diet and not on a Keto diet yet but I can see where I might have gone down the wrong route on overloading on meat/protein vs. more fiber.

We try to stay one meal a day and Keto. How to incorporate psillium hascks and Inuline? If I drink them before meal my stomach acids will be down. Have someone any idea?

I’m having this problem. Just finished 5 weeks. Maybe 3 BM in that time. Had to take a gentle softener for two of them. I faithfully drink 8 glasses of water in 16 oz glasses. That’s 2 gallons I think. I can’t imagine that I need mod. Anyone answer?
