I’ve gone from drinking at least 6 cans of coke a day to drinking 2-2.5 liters of sparkling mineral water a day. I’ve looked into whether or not sparkling water is bad for you, and hey, it’s not. But apart from dropping about a kilo in the first day or two, I’m pretty much at the same weight. I’m eating less because the water being carbonated makes me feel full, and I’m not eating so much junk…….. WTF?????

Dr Berg is an incredible and wonderful doctor. I lost 90% of my excess wait only since I started watching his videos despite I don’t exercise and I don’t go as strict as he recommend, but if you go strict with his approach, the results will be very very guaranteed. I tried several diets other than keto, but nothing worked and I was thinking of surgery as a last resort, and I was very lucky that I discovered his channel and his ideas and no need to surgery anymore. Dr Berg’s approach is the only thing worked with me, and I discovered that everything he says is true, nothing false!

Yeah but what the heck is too much water? I drink about 1,5 liters by thirst, would it be harmful to drink 2 liters? 3 liters? 4 liters? If your pee is light yellow or clear you are hydrated and dont constantly need water. It also sucks having to pee constantly. Most of us at our jobs cannot be stopping every few minutes to go pee

Try not drinking enough water and watch what happens, a little thing called hematuria (blood in the urine) it’s really hard on the kidneys. While over hydration could be bad so can under hydration. I believe 8 glasses of water a day is not over doing it. In order to die from over hydration you would need to drink gallons a day not one gallon but many many gallons.

What do you understand by speaking of water? In Europe we think of a liquid that on one hand transports magnesium, sodium etc. Into my body and on the other cleanses the kidneys. You have good videos, but i would challenge you on this one. Water can flush excess salt obtained from eating processed food. Furthermore, i think that the body is smarter in preserving necessary minerals than losing it. It’s 1 gallon and not 10 gallons; so the body has the time to analyze and decide what to keep and what to remove. Excess water may be helpful in removing excess salt
I stared exercising one hour every day and drinking lots of water just because everybody does it, and I swear that I gained weight I’m 5’5 and I was 132 pounds and now two months later I wait 140 and is not muscle and the worst part is that now I’m eating a lot less then before I stared exercising before I started with my routine I was eating everything I wanted and I was skinny . I get up at half 5 I run for a hour then train martial arts and train in the gym until 9 am and drink quite allot of water about 4 pints and eat until 12 and then i don’t really drink or eat anything until the next day is that okay considering I exercise allot

I’m a kidney transplant patient..according to labs when i don’t drink enough water (2000 to 2500) ml..my creatinine goes up..when I drink 3000ml water +500 electrolytes i see much of an improvement.
Hey Doc love your videos! I am on 80 mg of Torsemide and 80 mg of Potassium daily among many others. I have to drink more water (even though I don’t drink enough) and If I don’t drink water to replace when I go, I have noticed my gout can act up. But I see what your saying as it applies to normal, non-congestive heart failure patients or heart transplant patients. And being on Warfarin doesn’t help either. Keep up the great work!

In my experience drinking more water does nothing for me. If you do something like a week long water fast and drink a normal amount of water, say 1 liter a day, then do a week long water fast and drink a gallon of water a day and note the difference, there will be no difference. Of course there are a lot of factors that need to be accounted for so that the only difference is the amount of water, everything else is about the same (amount of sleep, what you eat before each fast and how much, your hydration level before each fast, your electrolytes before and during the fast, etc).

true, one shouldn’t drink too much, but its more common to drink too little, be dehydrated and not realise it, because true thirst doesn’t kick in until you’re pretty badly dehydrated.
I don’t think anyone sensible would think water dissolves fat, however, recent studies have shown it can increase resting metabolic rate.

I think drinking water helps you lose weight if you drink it when you think you’re hungry and then wait 10-20 min. If you’re still hungry then eat. Sometimes we confuse hunger with thirst.
Someone told my mother that drinking 8 glasses of water on an empty stomach would prevent all problems…few days later I had to rush her to emergency..she had full body edema…she had heart problems so that water could actually have killed her
Urologist told me to drink a gallon a day to keep the renal stones washed out.
There may be no science in the volume of water to drink however, my personal experience is that when I drink water based on my weight, I feel better. Congestion improves, body aches improve, etc.
The only thing I’d add to this video is “if you drink an 8Oz glass of water right before you go to eat a meal, you’ll eat less, and that can help you lose weight.”
That works for those who were not abused as children. Those that lived through it have disengaged from their body to escape pain. It takes literally decades to heal that damage. So people like me find it very hard to know if they are hungry or not or if they now need water. I find that drinking water helps me to avoid snacking. But after watching this I will drink less. Water.. My Urologist told me to ensure a water intake enough to produce a light ‘Chenin Blanc’ urine flow.
I drink 2 two small glasses of water with my ‘pills’.. Blood Pressure and Vit C (the kitchen ‘beaker’.. 250 ml) on rising in the morning.. it seems to ‘energise’ me for the day ahead. Thereafter.. on demand.. as and when required. Although, at 70, sometimes just the sight or sound of water has my Bladder dragging me to the Porcelain .
Military Service in the Southern African Bush and 30+ years in the Deep Level Gold Mining Industry taught me to hydrate.. hydrate.. hydrate! Four litres being an absolute minimum required for a four hour underground Supervisory Shift.
Some ‘Useless Information’.. The only research that I know of where water intake was specified, was by the South African Chamber of Mines Research Organisation, Industrial Hygiene Division.. ‘Acclimatisation of Workers for Hot Underground Conditions’.. for the Prevention of Heat Stroke. This took place in specially designed ‘Climatic Chambers’ under strictly monitored Conditions.
If I recall correctly, 300ml water at a temperature of 18°C (for optimum palatability) every 30 minutes during the four hour session.
Drink water to ‘lose weight’.. Naah.. As useful as wearing plastic ‘sweat suits’ to sweat off fat.

I hardly ever want plain water unless I believe it to be pure. Seeing a programme on TV showing how the water in London is recycled around 10times, and is processed, put me off even more, and how plastic leaks, did not increase my thirst, although I do drink coffee made with it. The only time I thirst for it is when I see it in the fountains providing it chilled, and then only a small cupful. Whilst on holiday, I was fortunate enough to find some pouring from rocks and it turned out to be one of the purest mineral waters, and was famed for its purity. London tap water is hard, and contains chlorine, I believe. If left in a glass for a couple of days or more it leaves a slightly slimy residue. Whether this is because of the fluoride added to it, or not, I cannot be sure.. I would not refuse it if I craved with thirst, in fact I would be grateful, but other than that, it has to have been boiled, although I doubt if boiling actually removes anything. In Wales the water is much nicer.

first, I for one mistake thirst for hunger, and this has been the main reason for my weight gain and this has been extensively studied do a quick search and you will find a shitload of studies done on this. second, i don’t believe i have to say this but water is in most of the body and is absolutely essential for human survival. third, we live in a world where we are exposed (even in keto diet) to dehydrating drinks and diuretics that tend to latch into the water making the gut less hydrated. lastly, in a keto diet, you obviously need all that water for the metabolism of fats….it takes more than screaming at a camera to be able to cite scientific knowledge

Hey Dr. My understanding or the link between water and weight loss is that drinking more water helps you lose weight. Not because your body needs a large amount of water, but because water is 0 calories and processing water causes your body to burn more calories. Just a thought. Im not a Dr. though.

Doctor, when you say it will not help you lose weight I understand that however. Could you argue that by making the conscious decision to ingest water, rather than a sugary beverage or alcohol, would then lead an individual to weight loss and ultimately a healthier lifestyle?

I heard comments from an MD, you shouldn’t drink this. You shouldn’t drink that. It’s dehydrating. But my urine color is pale yellow or clear. So that’s a lie. All you have to do is go by urine color and adjust fluids up if needed.
I almost agree with you, but I show symptoms of dehydration quit frequently before I ever feel thirsty, so a basic guide line does help me to drink more. The only way drinking water would help you lose weight is if your not drinking sugary sodas and empty sugary calories.

Thank you for your common sense approach. I was taught 25 years ago in physical therapy school, that the feeling of being thirsty can often decrease with age. Considering this “fact”, and that an estimated 1/3 of elderly patients admitted to the hospital are dehydrated (yes there are good studies on this) I encourage all of my older patients not to rely solely on thirst to judge hydration levels. (On the other hand, this video was referring specifically to hydration’s effect on weight loss). I guess what I’m saying is 8 glasses a day is dumb, but not drinking enough can be worse.
We’ve been programmed with almost all that we claim to know! This applies to most of humanity. I’m learning this more and more everyday. Ugh, de-program and listen to the body. Eat as healthy as possible and drinking water can be good for your skin anyway .

You body tells you that greasy foods taste better, and sense is not so common with most people: In the dark ages, the mortality rate was about 30 years old. Few lived beyond that point. Inherently, people go for what’s convenient and what taste good, rather than what’s good for you. Don’t just listen to your body, GOD gave you a mind so you can go beyond just what “you feel like doing”. Water is no exeption; too little cause dehydration, and too much can cause Headaches bloating Nausea and vomiting or even death. Take all things in moderation and educate your self. I remember my mother telling me about drinking 8 full glasses of water per 24 hour day. Truthfully speaking, I HATED the taste when I was much younger. The only way I could tolerate it was with ice in it. When I became diabetic, two years ago, doctor said to drink one half my body weight IN water. I was constantly going to the restroom!! I’m from GA, and used to the heat and humidity. Went on a Christmas cruise in 2019 to western Caribbean. Stayed too long in a hot tub on Christmas day, without drinking enough. Wound up in the ships ER, drastically dehydrated. Got 2 bags of IV fluids.
I typically ONLY drink when I’m thirsty. Discovered that hot tubs and Caribbean air dont mix. Stupid mistake on my part.

The main problem with this idea, is that yes people will drink liquids, but they won’t drink WATER! They will drink crap full of sugar, and yes you need to drink more water to clean out you kidneys, liver, and other organs! So they can break down fat and then your body gets rid of it in your pee! Look that up and I’m sure you will find all kinds of research. Are bodies are 65-72% water, So getting your water out of all the stuff you eat or drink isn’t enough!

This dr is a phoney. Drinking water does help you loose weight especially if you drink it and don’t intake any soda coffee or any carbonated drinks! Water is great for hydration and you are supposed to drink half of your body weight in water or close to it to stay hydrated, boost your energy, add exercise and you will see results. Water cleanse and detoxifys your body for better. Cause when you stay drinking carbonated drinks you stay sluggish. When you drink water your energy sky rockets and you stay motivated to keep exercising.

Anyways, I literally run at least six days a week, and I box 4 to 5 times a week (sometimes I train twice a day). Thank you for your insight, Dr. Berg. Drinking water does stimulate the metabolism thoo. Your body has to use energy to process anything! Drinking a glass of water burns about 12 cal. Drinking a ice cold glass of water an additional 8. 20 calories does not sounds like a lot. But for people that bodybuild and drink a crap ton of water, like 2 gal a day myself. Suddenly that became a lot of water! Times that by a week times that by 4. After about a month of drinking a lot of water which I would do anyways. I got like almost an extra 10,000 calories burned in a month. So this guy is wrong!

I do OMAD. But I recently discovered sometime when I eat something bad I drink lots of water behind it for rest of day. It make me Feel like my body just flushed it out or something and make me not feel not as guilty and a lot better

Hey Doc, I love your contents and I’ve been binging hard on your videos and Keto + IF related videos.
There’s one conflicted thing that I’m confused by. Drinking water during Keto & IF. Both keto and Intermittent fasting increases your ketone body level and increase your “cell recycling” process. This means there’s a lot more waste that needs to be flushed out, which means you should drink more water. But in some videos you tell us that you don’t need to drink a lot of water.
What am I missing here?

hey doc, I’ve taken a number of things over the years and nothing had a noticeable effect on me. I now take black seed oil and I noticed that I have more energy, could you please do a video about the benefits of black seed oil?
Ketogenic diet does not work well for me long term. As someone who works out a lot I lose strength and endurance quickly while in ketosis. I can eat keto for two weeks at a time to drop some fat without major muscle loss but after that I need to carb up to keep in condition.

Not only will it hydrate you and aid the biological processes of your body, but it will also cause your body to burn energy due to the cold temperature of the water.

I always lose a lot of weight once I’m back to 3 liters of water a day. That’s because I have water retantion. And I get rid of that very fast. I don’t mind if it’s not fat that I’m losing, because water retention also gives you a bloated look, which is not pretty.

I stop drinking a gallon of water threw out the day, now i only drink my water or diet drinks with my 3 meals, i stop drinking between meals and im getting way better results losing weight.

I am going to tell you all how I dropped 12 pounds in 45 days…..I quit sugar cold turkey and cut my carbs down significantly,,,but not entirely. I work out with weights,,,so I lost some size going from 202 to 190….but there were many positives…BP dropped significantly to a con sistent 115/78 down from 145/90. My fasting glucose used to always come in at 92-98….now it’s 78-82. It works,,,,and works fast. Though I lost some of my size,,,my health has improved significantly. Just some advice,,,,never thought reducing sugar and carbs would have such an impact on BP,,,,,I grew up hearing salt and fat were the culprits,,,WRONG!
Doctors now a days don’t even give an advise without money and you’re doing all this for free. Hatsoff!

It’s great for a flush and water weight loss ONLY if you add a good electrolyte supplement like Dr Berg’s powder stuff and natural diuretics to your diet, like a lot of lemons, to flush out the gunk that’s been f*cking your sh*t up. A bit of exercise and sauna time will help too.

I’ve been drinking 96 to 108 ozs of water every day, for many years! I don’t drink any sodas/pop/soft drinks, or juices. I also drink smoothies that I made myself with lots of vegetables and some fruits, and all the edible roughage intact. Whenever I have fruits I consume the whole fruit; I don’t ever drink juices!

I recently discovered for me, that one single forced prolonged fast (3 days) makes the following short term fasting (up to 24 hours) much easier every day. I mean, this 3 day fast was very hard for me, because I felt very weak and had severe hunger pain. Will not do this again. But since that my IF up to 24 hours is much easier (I do IF since almost 2 years and it never felt that easy). I wonder if this is science-based.
The obesity problem in the USA is a growing problem. What’s worse is the majority of these overweight and obese people are doing NOTHING about it. These same people will spend hundreds of dollars and maybe sacrifice an entire weekend if their car has a minor problem, but their own body with a major problem is being ignored. Anyone who takes a walk around a shopping mall will see hundreds or many dozens of these overweight and obese people waddling around the food courts to shovel more food into their body. The absolute worse is when you see young children with them also showing signs of obesity… I’m not talking about a little extra fat, I’m talking unhealthy obese children!

Have with water the same approach than with food. Drink water when you’re thirsty. Eat when you’re hungry. Why this modern tendency that one thing will magically do all the job that depends on a lot of factors in order to get it done?
Stop creating needs that you don’t have. I need to eat only apples, I need to drink X gallons of water every day, I need to excercise at 5 am for at least 2 hours, etc. This is the mind ritualizing everything. The search for truth out there like God is hiding behind this one thing. Completely unnecessary and irrational, the product of anxiety caused by stress, which in turn is caused by this unhealthy modern lifestyle, the search for meaning in life, American idealism, overexaggerating, blowing things out of proportion, the unnatural way of doing things as rule, fear taking over to the point where one cannot make a rational decision anymore, money as the equivalent of success, as a measure for intelligence, self-abasement as a consequence of not succeeding, unreal goals, sickness, poor taste, lack of criteria becoming the norm, conformity seen as a sign of belonging (I’m miserable and he’s miserable too, no envy there, sense of parthership), hate towards people who have the courage to oppose, etc.
All byproducts of this corrupt, unhealthy, uncritical way of living. Eating and consuming unconsciously for the benefit of companies and businesses. The own personality erased so others can turn in huge profits, sacrificing one’s entire life without even knowing it, unawareness of companies and governments mechanisms of control. As a result lies and myths are readily believed. Poor nutrition as a vicious circle.

I was told to drink a gallon of water a day, well actually heard it on youtube, im quite a big man, around 15 and a half stone (sorry its stones and pounds in the UK) and yeah people are saying a gallon a day which over here is 4 litres, and damn I really cant stop going to the toilet peeing, I know this would happen but they said after a few weeks your body will adjust and not pee so much, is this true? as it happens at the most annoying times like half way though sex (sorry people) and when im trying to sleep etc, or have i watched the videos people put up that are not true?
