same with situps. A friend of mine was doing 200 reps in 2 series. After I shwoed him the variation which tenses his stomach and shoulder blades, he did like 10. before he couldn’t take it anymore. If you are doing 200 reps, you are doing it wrong. Simple as that. Especially since this friend of mine, trains very rarely so if he could do 200 technically correct sit ups it would be impossible without months of training.
i did knee push ups for about 2 months at around 110 kgs and now i can do about 3 push ups in a row without stopping and now i weight at 106
What about progression towards a real (not the often seen wobbly twisted version of the) one-arm pushup? A progression toward slow, proper one-arm pushup progression renders chest weight training for all of us beginner-intermediate practitioners redundant, sort of.

&Simeon Panda. U said bout ur wrists with those bands. Im not sayin u have bad technique at all. It is really good and ur actualy strong bro. But when u do explosive press ups. U land them with ur fingers first, then land on ur palm. Sorry. Not sure how to explain. Cos thw way u do it really damages the joints iver time. I had a bone stickin out of my wrist for a bit i think this is why. But use ur fingers to land first cos they absorb it and does no damage to ur joints
5:55 damn, he is human…see that little bit of shakiness. Slow push-ups are ridiculously hard, that one he did is almost equal to 10 rushed pushups. Great for perfecting your form, and finding out exactly where your weaknesses are….no momentum to carry you through “sticking points”, and no taking advantage of bouncing off of the elastic stretch to your muscles at the bottom. Another cool one is 4 stages of 4 counts, descend slowly for 4, hold at the lowest position for 4 (the killer), slowly come up for 4. then at the top push through you scapula to get 5 inches higher for 4 counts….it’s great cause you can do it to music and see how far you can get through your favorite song (or songs if your truly beast mode)

In one video you say, you need to have both low and high reps, the next you say you need 2 min resting time, and now you say have lesser resting times? It all contradicts itself.
Great video, but isn’t it bad for your arm joints to do explosive movements on concrete? I always ensure that the floor surface is cushioned.

What you called clapping push-ups should have been clap push-ups mine are clapping you gotta clap more than once and your explosive push-ups was not what we call explosive push-ups in the street you have to do more for it to be an explosive push-up like Clap Hands crossed arms Clap Hands that’s one push-up just do all three of those motions before you hit the ground that’s explosive

When doing knuckle push ups, I-as expected-tend to feel excruciating pain within the knuckles. I was wondering if maybe I should do them on a much softer surface such as a towel or a folded napkin or should I just press through the pain?

At least for me, knuckle pushups are much more comfortable for the wrists. Regular push-ups bend them so uncomfortably that it’s almost impossible to do them.
In my opinion knuckle pushups are better they put less strain on your wrists and it strengthens your hands that’s why a bunch of boxers do them

I can do a solid +10 reps of clapping and chest taps already. I noticed many said that the back claps and the superman isn’t that far away to be unlocked after you mastered the first 2 I mentioned.

As a Calisthenics guy, those movements are incorrect. Lack mobility.
What sucks is for 3yrs I have been doing them wrong..and shoulder blade movement is really the most neglected part…problem is you can’t see your back and that’s where everything screws up unless u record a video or someone monitors you…doing them properly even if less in numbers is really important else your back and/or chest might become uneven…quality beats quantity..

It’s not as simple as that.
1)Pronated hand position targets the triceps’ long head.
Supinated targets the lateral head.
Traditional push ups hit the long head of the triceps while knuckle push ups put the palm in between so it hits both the lateral and long head.
2)In my case at least, knuckle push ups are harder and I can do less reps with so it is a progression in weight over regular push ups.
It may be the same for most people or I just have much stronger lonh head, either way I can do less reps so I switched to knuckle push ups.
Doing knuckle push ups gives me a great stretch in the pecs, as if doing flys.
Because my triceps are not able to provide as much assistance the pecs have to work overtime to make up for it.

A few months ago I busted my chin open doing Superman pushups wrong now I got it right
I decided to try fist pushups this morning. I normally do five sets of 15 regular pushups. I got into fist push-up mode, started to go down for the first rep, and my fist flat collapsed. I got carpet burn on my knuckles and almost fell on my face. I don’t know what happened, but whatever it is, I was doing it wrong. Watching this vid, I think I may have had my hands out too wide for the fist version of pushups.

Hey Austinive been training calisthenics and a bit of weight training and ive noticed my dominant arm is visually cut more than my weaker left. I train the amount on each and maintain proper form on both sides so its not because of that. I do train boxing which could be responsible since both arms have different roles in the sport. I can do and do do about half over half of these but I cant yet do the rest because I’m a big guy
Really interesting. I was doing three sets of palms-splayed push-ups for a long time, and then all of a sudden it started making my one wrist ache like a son of a bitch. I sort of came up on my own with the idea of doing knuckle push-ups. It totally alleviates the wrist pain, but I didn’t realize it was actually strengthening my wrists as well. Since I’ve been doing the knuckle push-ups, I swear, I can really feel the burn more. At first I couldn’t do as many on my knuckles as when on my palms. It really seems like doing it on my knuckles works my chest muscles more. I don’t know. I definitely prefer the knuckle push-ups though.
Chuck Norris can do push ups with feet and hands in air. But still be connected to the ground. How?

Knuckle pushups work your core more as you don’t have your hands spread out which stabilizers you, there’s also less surface area to press from so you need to generate more force to make up for the inferior surface contact area. Your also at a mechanical disadvantage while doing knuckle pushups as you might not be able to get into that perfect press position that feels right for you. all in all, they’re a lot harder but easier on the wrists in the long run.
Can you pleaselease share a few suggestions for beginners? It will be great if you could suggest very simple, easy, scientific, and fearless way of pushups. Very slowly, step by step. It’s a lil hard to understand in one go.

I’ve only been able to do push ups on my knuckles for awhile now due to a wrist injury. They can make my hands pretty sore and stiff though if Im not on a mat.

I struggle with flat palm pushups a lot so I switched to knuckle pushups and are able to do a lot more pushups than I ever could with the former method.

I do 20 of these everyday, even on my rest days, and incorporate three different diamond push ups within my workout. It’s only been 2 weeks that I’m doing them every day, but I already feel stronger, and can do a lot more than I was able to 2 wks ago..Great video as usual, and learning a lot from your channel

Hello, I’m 15 years of age and I’ve just started gaining weight, when I was 13 I was 50 kilograms and 5’6, now I’m 57 kilograms with the height of 5’8. Is it ok If I start with 100 pushups a day and lift 3 sets of 6lbs dumbbells per arm?
with traditional push up I injured my hand, there were glad coming out from my hand, and I can’t carry my weight anymore until it healed because of the pain. But with knuckle push up I never suffer such things. What do you think?

Six months ago, somehow I managed to injure my wrist and now it pains when I try to do traditional push ups.
So I do the knuckle push ups

Would have help a bit more if you actually did a dozen of so knuckle push ups in this video. Also you need a front light since you are in shadow and you might want to wear a tighter shirt instead of that baggy pullover. The push up shown looked more like a stomach up instead of a chest push up.

Anything that says science shouldn’t be taken seriously anymore. Your chest are all made differently. Hit the angles that work for your chest type even if it’s in an awkward position as long as it’s not uncomfortable or painful for you.

trust me knuckle push ups are a lot better than the usual one. i’ve this community that basically made me do about 200 knuckle push ups on rocky terrain like aspalt and shit once a week, and yeah the result after 5 months is definitely worth it! not only for my biceps but also my triceps and chest. try it out for a month and i can assure you will feel the diffrence

I always felt like I was doing push-ups wrong somehow. Like my head is always touching the ground or my arms don’t bend fully. The tip that really helped me is the pelvis tilt and clenching the thighs. Seems to stop the body from sagging.
I did my knuckle push-up on the Basketball court. I can knock a horse down with one punch.

Knuckle push ups is much more effective than palm push ups. Works great for chest and triceps. You can feel the difference in triceps just by doing these and not any other triceps exercises. I did experience pain in wrists when doing regular palm push ups. Knuckle push ups is difficult but not painful on wrists.
Having fractured my wrist pretty badly this year, I found myself unable now to be able to perform flat-palm push-ups, but knuckle push-ups are much easier, and I hear that these are what martial artists use to strengthen the fists for fights anyway.

I (try) do knuckles pushups..but the best I can manage is 2 or 3 reps or whatever I can manage in max 7 sec AND not all the way down….if it makes any sense. But even with little, overall feeling is definitely good over a period of time. Got some good tips in this video..thank you

I am only able to do a knuckle push up but only with my thumb not wrapped across the fingers. If i try to it the way shown in this video, it causes almost unbearable pain. I guess there is reason why people tell me I have girly hands:(

Narrow is difficult. I can do max 15 reps wide push up but max 10 reps narrow. So as long as i do max reps, wide is still will help me better to building muscle.

Progression with pushups via decline orientation is also very effective!
I do, 10 push-ups
5 diamond push-ups
5 wide push-ups
5 staggered each side
3 sets with one min rest
BTW I do them all on knees because it’s too hard

15 push-ups
15 dips
15 floor dips
5 bicep push-ups, knees
3 incline
I do this on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Is this good to build some muscle and see results by summer? And by results I don’t mean shredded but noticeable muscles.

I can’t do traditional push ups, my wrists hurt since I cant bend my wrists too much so doing push ups on my knuckles is a lot easier for me.
I have a wrist injury that prevents me from a 90 degree wrist/hand position angle, so knucle/fist is my only alternative.

2) double: a person do a pushup on you when you’re doing a pushup
3) sitting: someone sits on you when you do a pushup
