What if i dont have the bar thing to do push ups? Clapping pushups or double ups?
That’s interesting apparently “correct form” is not to straighten your arms at the up when going for speed. During the instruction you go all the way up and straighten your arms, and showing the plates on the back for the progressive overload the arms go all the way straight, but when you do 100 “push-ups” in 1m15s or out on the deck you’re not even close to being fully extended.
@RezFitness It would be great to see 1) how long it takes you to do 100 push-ups with correct form; and 2) how many push-ups with correct form you can do in 1m15s. That would be a good comparison to what’s on this video.
BTW, I know you’re stronger than me (you should be, I’m 60!:) ), so I’m genuinely curious. Currently, I’m using the sub-maximal technique to build-up my push-ups. When I was likely your age, I could do 1,000 push-ups in an hour. (I know guys can do much more, but this is **me**.) As late as my early 50s I could still do 800 in an hour. My current goal is to get to 700, but we’ll see where I get to.

So last year my friend invited me to the Marine Physical training and um… I was the weakest person ever, and um I could only do 12 push ups and they went hardcore on everything we did 50 burpies, 50 push ups and sit ups…. ran 1 fucking mile none stopping Because they kept on Pushing you and pushing you until you suffer more the pain, plus the extra punishment which is more exercise….um about two weeks my body still hurt like HELL but aye I pulled it together:D

This instantly worked so well. I did as many pushups and pull-ups as I could alternating, and fatigued out at 50/35. Just when I thought I was done I tried plugging the nergy leaks and was able to crank out 10 more reps each, thanks jeff!
This really works I started off barely doing 7 per 1 set so that is about 63 and 2 weeks later Im doing 13 per set so that is 117 (I cannot do diamond pushups but I just do close grip pushups instead and im gradually getting my hands closer to beable to do diamonds)

Trust me this really works.I couldn’t even do even a single pushup.I started doing 8 negative pushups for the first week and second and third week I did 10 and 4th week 12.Finally now I am able to do my first pushup after 1 month of hardwork.Don’t forget to give 2 days rest per week.

Ok so this is great. Went from 24 to 40 in two weeks but, I feel that I’ve plateaued and haven’t been able to do many or really anymore reps past 40. Is there something I might be doing wrong. I always do all 4 sets sometimes they just aren’t evenly spaced or at the same time everyday. Could that be a problem?

Actually worked great. I work all day so I do my max at 7:30am 50% 6pm (before workout) and finish another set at 9:15 pm before bed

awful technique…he is not doing it with correct form. Its easy to do 100 the way he is doing it which is without the full range of motion. Guaranteed if he did it with correct form he would not do more than 50 max.

I do 6 sets of 75 slow controlled push ups every dayam 50 years old. TBH it’s not that difficult once you stop thinking it’s difficult. The key is to develop perfect form and never skip a workoutmake it as essential to your life as eating and sleeping.

If you made it into active duty, all of us just do half reps of push ups. I’ve never seen a single person do max reps of a full push up lol

Proper form for push ups or did you mean bar path and flared elbows while you were benching? Both seemed a bit off to me? 45° elbows to protect your shoulders. You want impingement or torn labrum? Also the bar path is more \ rather than | you understand I hope? Keep working on your videos man, all things considered you did good. Just remember there’s a lot of fitness guru channels. No pain, no gain is outdated and not good for anyone. If you are feeling pain during any exercise, something is wrong. You can exercise, even strenuously, WITHOUT PAIN! This man is saying pain means your muscles are reacting to new challenges. He’s wrong: mild soreness afterward is ok, pain means you injured yourself. Pain during the exercise means STOP, you’re causing damage.
This is especially true as we age!!!

I typically bench press my body weight and I’ve been trying to increase my push up reps by basically… increasing my push up reps… I tried starting at 30 and increasing by 1 every day for a month to get to 60. That was my objective.
But I’ve been unable to get past 51-52 with this approach. that has been my cap for a long time. After that the burn is too much and I can’t push anymore.
Somehow I haven’t thought about increasing the load… Will try it this month and see what happens.

I can do 1-2 now because I am still working on mastering knee push-up. Anyway your video stands out because from the very first seconds I found what I have been looking for proper push-up form. After watching some videos about push ups I just wanted come on no talking just show me your technique and I’ll judge by that if you have something interesting to say or not. he was showing a good form in the tutorial but not so while he was doing it without lock elbows. it’s a lot harder with them locked at the top on every rep. The best l have ever done is 120 reps on knuckles in 72 seconds.

Else you can do every alternate day increasing the numbers I did 25 first day and 27 day after that 30 in next followed by 32,35,37 and 40 yeah it will take more than a month but will reach 100 without alot of pain because it will pain for just few minutes after doing the exercise and you are also taking a whole day rest
I feel like the key here is even if you can only do 0 push ups, you’re just gonna have to grit your teeth and force your way through until you can
I’m 70. When I was in 8th grade, JFK was telling the country to get out and walk 50 miles. Look it up. It was all the rage for awhile. I think that morphed in my head into 50 push-ups. I didn’t like my skinny kid arms so my dad must’ve told me to do push-ups. I started Jan. 1 and did 10-8-8-8-8-8 before bed. Soon I was doing 30-20. By the spring I was doing 50 at a crack. Then I upped it to 55 every night. Then by summer I was up to 60 a night. I hit the floor with my chest and had my arms straight in the up position. I moved fast. 60 took more than a minute, less than two minutes. One night in August I kept going to see how far I could go. I did 90. I still have the record, written nightly in the diary I began that year. I went to a seminary for high school in September and the first night, the prefect told me to get off the floor next to my bed and knock it off. I was obedient and never hit 100. I still do push-ups from time to time and still struggle to get a routine going. I still dream of doing 50 good push-ups again and working up from there. These days I work out on a chin-up bar. Come fall, I’m gonna give the push-ups another shot. If I can get to 50 at a go, I think I’ll be encouraged to stay with it. Surprising how the older body still responds well to exercise. It just seems to take longer.
Guys this does work, went from 24 to 45 now after 3 weeks, don’t do every single day, the rest is important, you’ll normally circle your max reps but with rest between each day you do these you’ll increase your rep by 1 or 3. keep up the grind and good luck
Serious question tho, so if 1 set is the three pushups types done to exhaustion with 30 sec rests between them, and you have to do 3 sets, how long do you rest between each set or is it still 30 seconds. Thanks

The problem with folks after 40 and sedentary is when you push too hard, consecutively, u get shoulder impingement easily like I did, when your chest become way stronger than your rotator cuff. I was pushing from less than 10 to more than 50 consecutively then I realise how the f my left shoulder ache so badly that it did not recover for months even after seeing the ortho and pt, so be careful and listen to your body
Might try this. On my pt test I maxed at 86 in two minutes trying to get 100+

With this workout I increased my pushups from 30 to 40 in like 6-7 weeks but since I was doing it during my cut I lost chest fat and built muscle on my chest which really toned it up and for those of you who didn’t get that good results keep in mind this is supplementary and should be done while doing your normal work out routine and I think it’s a great workout. These are not full push-ups. You’re not locking your arms out at the top, not going all the way down, and your body is sagging in a couple places. 100 push-ups in a row becomes a lot harder if you’re doing to real thing.

After a month, i went from 0 to 25 push ups ez. Then about 2 weeks of slouching passes (i was doing 5 to 10 push ups instead of 25), and i went back to 5. Now i started training again and 2 weeks in i cant pass 10! Some days i do 15, maybe even 20. Others its a struggle getting to 10
i can do 35 proper form pushups in a row, hoping to be able to do 50 in a row by the end of the month

5 ways to incease your push ups
[ 03:26] 1. To do test your maximum push ups multiple times a day.
How does a good push up looks like and how should you place your hands. Place your hands in line with your shoulders and try to spread your fingers for more stabiliation. And from here you going to do as much as push ups possible.
A good method is to do 50 push ups in the morning, then in ther afternoon and in the evening you try to beat it again. The next day you take some rest and the day after you so it over again.
[ 04:35] 2. To do a lot of weighted push ups
They are really good to increase strength in your chest and shoulders. If you can do 20 push up with 15kg, bodyweight push ups become a lot easier.
I actually haven’t done much bodyweight push ups, but more way more weighted and i always tracked my progress in my logbook which played a crucial part in my progress.
[ 05:54] 3. To do straight arm planks
Your core will colapse when you are doing over a 100 push ups. Because you will be in this plank position for more than 4/5 minutes. At a certain point, its not yout chest that can’t hold it anymore, but your core.
So you want to strenghten your core in that straight arm plank position.
Stand in a push ups position and try to hold this for a minimum of 3 to 4 minutes. If you managed to reach this, you can move on to weighted straight-arm plank holds.
Place the weight on your lower back, because this is the area where it becomes heavy. Make sure that you’ll straigthen your arms completely. Don’t hang in your shoulders, but protract your scapula. Hold this as long as possible, minimal 1 minute. If you managed to this, you can move on to heavier weights.
[ 07:17] 4. To work on your scapula strength
You can do this with the scapula push ups.
Arms are straight and from here you protract and retract your scapula. Try to create a hollow back (Cat-pose). Try to make at least 6 reps, with good form.
When you stand for a longer period of time in push up position, you will feel the burden in your front and rear delt. So the stronger the scapula gets, the longer you can hold in this position.
[ 08:24] 5. Get as lean as possible
The more bodyfat you carry on, the harder bodyweight exercises become. So try to be as lean as possible.
This all comes down to your training methods and your nutrition intake.

Diamond push up: 15 reps
Normal push up: 20 reps

Diamond push up: 5 reps
Normal push up: 10 reps

US Army Military Police method. 1st week = 10 good push-ups every hour for 8 hrs / 2nd week = increase by 5 / 3rd week = increase by 10 by the 4th week should be able to do 25 to 30 each hr during an 8 hr day. Continue until you get to 50 in a row per hr. Push-ups will be too easy to do. after that during an actual physical fitness test.

I can hit 60-65 before I max out in one set. However 3x per week for me, not enough. I do every other day, typically works out 4 times a week, sometimes. 2 sets of 60 with a 90 second rest.
I think whats key is defining what level of ‘beginner’ you are? Like max out at 20, 40 etc etc. If you can do 40, then aiming for 70 3 x times a week is not enough.
Personally, push harder goal. Thats just me. Each to their own I guess.
