5 Common Uppercut Mistakes: Land’em More Effectively!
Video taken from the channel: fightTIPS
The uppercut punching fist tightens on impact and SHOULD LAND RIGHT AFTER THE HIPS ROTATE. Just like a hook, the left uppercut should land right as the right heel touches the ground; vice versa, the right uppercut will land as the left heel touches the ground (the left heel may already be grounded if the previous punch was only the jab.).When you perform an uppercut the primary muscles activated include the biceps on the front of the upper arm and the deltoid muscles which shape the shoulder.
The anterior deltoid (front of the shoulder) is most active, although the medial (middle) and posterior (back) deltoid are also engaged to support the movement. The basic mechanism of the uppercut involves your hips moving downward whereas your punch rising upwards. With hip rotation and your body planted on the mat, you put your body in gear 2. If you jump off the ground, you’ll lose all the power and momentum required for an uppercut. The rear hand is going to be, again, protecting the other side of the head, and the uppercut wants to split the guard. You want to come up the middle and land it on the chin.
Remember, not leaving.Body rotation. You have to rotate your lower body and hips to generate power for the punch. Pivot your corresponding foot when throwing the uppercut.
When throwing a left uppercut, pivot the left foot and rotate the hips towards the punch.Uppercut Start in boxing stance. Rotate right hip forward, pivot on ball of right foot, loop and swing right hand up as if punching someone in the chin. Protect chin with left hand throughout the movement.
The Rear (Right) Uppercut Begin with your gloves tucked in front of your face, elbows pointing down. Pivot on your rear foot as you drop your right shoulder slightly and drive through your hips. Your right glove should drop down a couple of inches your before firing to your adversaries chin or your training partners focus mitt.
Be sure to avoid these 5 common beginner mistakes when throwing an uppercut to land them more effectively in boxing, MMA, and Muay Thai. Subscribe to fightTI.Shoulder roll the uppercut If you can tell which side the punches are coming from, you can avoid them easily by rolling your shoulders perfectly in rhythm. Uppercuts are easily defended when you turn your side into them because they’ll end up hitting your arms. The uppercut to the body is safer than throwing an uppercut to the head because it leaves you less exposed and is quicker to reach the target.
The most effective method is to duck under your opponent’s punch and then immediately shoot the uppercut to their mid-section.Get into your basic boxing stance. You can throw the uppercut from any stance but for now we’ll stick to a neutral stance. Position yourself for the uppercut the same way that you would for a right cross or left hook.
The COMMON MISTAKE is to try and duck down or bend your knees or drop your hands low to “prepare” for the uppercut. So let’s work the left uppercut. All right, so Terry is going to lean ever so slightly, with a little bit of pivot, just a hair, all right, and he is going to rip his uppercut right through and.Sit down on your uppercuts and fire your shoulders and hips.
Don’t lead with them because you can leave yourself open for too long.Once you hit an uppercut bag, the proper feel and resistance make you lift it using your legs, while directing the punch upwards from the level of the floor to the direction of the ceiling at an angle matching your target. The rock-solid feel of a correctly thrown uppercut affects your body from fist to foot.Uppercut combines a boxing workout with music and lifestyle elements all in one centrally located space.

Thank you for this! My husband is saying that I shouldn’t twist and bend my knees when I do my uppercuts. Been thinking I may be wrong as I see some trainees do #5. Now I’m convinced my coach is right all along!
uppercuts are the trickiest for me to learn compared to other basic punches, thanks for the video
Coach Anthony is always putting out great content. I stopped following precision striking it just wasn’t doing it for me anymore, but coach Anthony is great.
Your chin is the house and somebody always has to be home. Classic. Great analogy
can u make a video explaining how to throw the left hook and uppercuts with shoulder leverage and snap like tyson please.
Arm punches are more like of a Muhammad Alis joke punch when he used to throw some against his opponents I guess.
Donald no love smith, 6 foot amateur star f turned ko artist fighting at 126, thank God for tev best role model and spar part net maybe in all of boxing and soon a superstar

That’s my battlecry now when throwing uppercut
Hi Shane, great video! I wonder if I could use a very short clip for a Golf training video? We use an almost identical technique to to generate power in a golf swing. Of course I will credit your channel and put a link in the description.
I louve you coach I always follow you and use your movements
Great tips! I was taught that (generally) when slipping or evading a punch, it should put you in the most favorable position for the counter strike, and then safely get out of the way. One move sets up another move, in MMA I notice that they like to throw their shots over the opponents shots or get hit to land one, I don’t always agree with that lol. I thought the purpose was to hit and not get hit lol. I like the classic style boxing styles much better.
Sir ExpertBoxing, what are your thoughts on variations in execution given a muscular triceps & back area? I find myself unable to mimic your execution. If I try hard, my triceps jam and I end up losing power.
No wonder why Ippo had a hard time against Ozuma. The uppercut distance
This is a good vid for those ready for intermediate concepts.
best coach ever ik I knew all this but I like to check my progress
I really fo not understand shy aj or wilder go on about percent purses….do 50 50….and who ever wins….in next fight do 70/30 to the winner…both say want unify the belts….i think they both trying to avoid each other….out pricing each other….miller could end world champion…hope not….cause his comments bout wilders lady….and joshuas mum……dont give him a right to title shot…..the guy is a bully numpty….
All Wrong! because Gard is not complete And No Foot Dance!⚠️⚠️
Logan paul should fight shane. Shane’d fuck him up BAD but it would b fun to watch.
Awesome video, when you mentionned the long range Uppercut, i directly thought of jds vs werdum and stephens dos Anjos. I understand it is mma, and that you can still be countered, but damn that looked good!
Freaking love this guy. Made an iPad mount so I can watch while hitting the bag.
How do you feel about shovel hooks? Would you say it’s more of a sloppy uppercut than a hook? Or can they be implemented safely and effectively???
why isnt he opening up his arm more? the uppercuts that have always hurt me the most have a pretty long arc, somewhat with the shoulder pull but mostly with the bicep contraction. maybe he’s focusing on the lower body more
Another good video. You can tell he’s been doing this for a while cause it’s great how he 1st delivers the proper way to execute then goes over the common mistakes people may make before they even get started. What I never could figure out is, why do boxers place so much emphasis on physical conditioning while martial artists seem to leave it out? You don’t see fat boxers but you see fat judo guys all the time. I think it’s because western boxers have a more realistic view of fighting than do people of the east. Boxers expect to get hit and train to be ready for it whereas people who study judo and even karate don’t even plan to get hit, at least that’s my take on it. Anyway thanks for the video.
The sound effects hahaha, but good video bro, thanks a whole lot for teaching me the upper cut!
Everytime I learn something new from my boxing class u come up thanks
ik you won’t awnser this but do you know those 15-20$ everlasting have horrible stitching and protection
Love these videos… Should make a DVD series probably are made one lol, but if not look into it..

can you find me an amateur boxing fight on 5’2 aT a hundred and four pounds..
I’m only 20. PLEASEEEEE..?
A 6th mistake of doing an uppercut is they don’t pivot there feet
The golf hip action is key to the uppercut power. You do have to open the angle a lttle and it has to land with the elbow on front of you, not the side.Relaxation is power. Zab Judah was a great uppercut launcher.
I thought you’re supposed to train your uppercuts actually squatting a little but?
Uppercuts can be thrown from outside, just as hooks can be thrown from outside. The first thing I teach is that an uppercut is a straight punch that’s redirected. You don’t lean sideways or dip down to throw it. You just rotate and dip your hand, then snap it up in an arc that works for the situation. I had a “coach” in our gym who told all the boxers that hooks are strictly inside punches. We let him get away with it until one boxer lost a match because he wouldn’t pull the trigger when his opponent pulled back with his hands down. A left uppercut from outside is referred to as an upjab. It’s a setup punch, just like a regular jab. You can turn it into a power shot by shifting your feet.
This is a punch I just can’t master… I just can’t seem to get the right kinda leverage, they always feel awkward and weak, much rather throw a few jabs, hooks and straights then follow up with some massive thai kicks to the ribs while they’re gaurding their head.
Dope video brother I honestly respect the tips you offer. Exactly how you are throwing the uppercuts is proper
I am a beginner boxer thank u for correct my mistake! Ur video Very helpful
This uppercut is for the many times my dad abused me as a kid ☺️ a nice little gift back
Thanks for all the videos coach, very helpful for me as a beginner, makes it even more fun when I have your great ideas to work with during my training
Rear uppercut is probably my favorite punch, followed by the right hand.
Johnny, you are one of the best boxing instructors on the net, but I have to disagree with your first main point here: The mechanics of an UC are not at ALL the same as a hook. (Not a SHORT hook, which is what you are referring to.) The hook is thrown off the back foot, as you know. The left uppercut is thrown off the front foot, as you yourself say later in this video. And so is the right UC, ideally, if you want maximum power.
Watch Mike Tyson, his best right UC’s were thrown in a switch-stance, to get his right foot forward. Same with Hagler, Riddick Bowe, & many others.
Also, the short hook can be thrown with the elbow up, or down. the former style (better defensively) is even further away from the mechanics of an UC.
That lead uppercut opens up a nasty headkick from your power side if you fight Muay Thai.
Thanks Coach
The Dip on your uppecut is way far too, deep, the skill of the the power, of the uppercut is the old ways, is twist the wrist for maximum power. & perfectly accurate ) 10 out of 10.. try it.. watch jamal charlo, the most perfect upper cut
I want to be a ufc fighter please help me achieve my dream I am 13
Lead uppercut vs counter overhand…Maybe safer to bend knees and throw uppercut on the way up than reaching. A well timed overhand taking head of line would be a devastating counter.
I think he is laughing in a good way cause he is his coach and he appreciates how serious he takes his job. Not a bad laugh.
Don’t try to start a black & white fight in here bro. If you want to do that do it on the only place it counts. On the ring.
I can see your style is pro. but when i watch tyson throw an uppercut, that inspires me to burn energies. You crouch low, coming up with power uppercut. Most of tyson’s uppercuts are concentrated for maximum damage with full breath and ferocious impart.
Shoutout to coach Anthony. Respect and gratitude go out to you from me whole heartedly for the knowledge you share in this crafty skill.
Im 15 and 5 ft 8 which is not short for my age but I know I won’t grow much more due to past cancer treatment. So my point is the uppercut is my favourite shot. In the rib or the chin. Most effective. I remember one of my first fights. I was heavily the underdog and ended him with one shot to the side of his ribs
Hy from Romania, i want learn everfing, thanks for the video. You are very good teacher, I wish many realized. Sorry for englis.
just waiting for the VR boxing game to come out so I can use these skills im learning from youtube lol
Hi nice vid. Can you make more on boxing tips on left hook, boxing drills. Thank you. I subscribed.
Mayweather brothas know what the hell they are talking about when it comes to boxing you critics need the shut up
AJ can you teach us how to duck great fighters..”….like you do
Hello, I invite you to visit my page of you tube, cuban boxing.
For me I prefer faking the right hand and shooting that lead upper cut. Because if I throw a straight right hand,,to opponent moves away backwards making him not to be within the range for upper cut shot.
This is expert boxing advice unlike that troll idiot Johnny Tran who is a quack.
..I watched joe Frazier
That helped me a lot
Edit: though this was the left hook vid
Genius stuff, Mr.Mayweather.
Never in my life would have I thought to COMBINE the aural intrigues of the ASMR world with boxing/martial arts technique tutorials!!!
So simple but so brilliant.
when in my stance should i have a bit more weight on my lead leg foot
awwwwww ur a mayweather right””” then get” ur boy” to blend & use his knees””””” or he’ll get KO””””” like you use too
AJ is scared to death of Fury, Wilder and Ortiz! AJ is not shit until he fights those men!
I haven’t seen all your videos yet, but when it comes to the uppercut. Is it odd to use your fist with your hands parallel to your body? Using my uppercut with palms towards the body restricts free movement and over tenses muscles when your fist clenches. Using shoulder rotation with your glove to the side frees tension and also allows good roll to a slip or second uppercut from other hand.
I love the jab, right uppercut, and left hook to the body combo
King of Wankanda! The Black Panther! The Next Undisputed HW Champion!
I had a 13yo 75lb boxer at Silver Gloves last week too. His dad is also a coach and made the trip. I wish that I had went so I could have shaked your hand for the content that you put on YouTube. You’re making a great impact and promote our sport well.
Well, the corkscrew uppercut isn’t a jab.
When you jab you aim for your opponents face.
When you throw a corkscrew uppercut you aim for your opponents chin, which, if you hit his chin his head will tilt back and he won’t see the next punch coming. So it’s a useful punch and not just a fancy jab.
Do you have to bend knees and squat before the uppercut? or is this technique ok?
Go yo lecciones de boxeo técnica del cuyo HERNÁNDEZ there you going to learn how send yours pounches like Ricardo finito lopez or Juan Manuel Marquez.the real deal..
Also, I like your uppercut motion. If you wanted to, you can use it to fake an uppercut to the body then hook to the head since you stated that hook has a similar motion as the uppercut.
good video tips. Next time, you should show your full body during your demonstration, instead of showing just your upper body. I learn my opponents movements or when or how they throw their punches through their foot work and body movement.
I like Coach’s videos before I even finish watching as I know the content will be on point
I swearntgrre is finally a new movement in American boxing where pugilist r re turning to our history and getting back our fundamentals,
Do you know any coaches/trainers in the pacific northwest? I believe I have what it takes and am going to participate in the BC 2021 gold gloves
wish I could dislike this forever instead of once your tech is so messed DO NOT TRY THIS garenteed Hand brake
Trajectory is up so not hips twist for power its bend knees go upward look at tyson throwing them its perfect
I thought I’m good at uppercut. But nobody told me to keep head behind to see opponent.
Hmmmm… there is always something to learn. Your teaching techniques are different but good. Thumb up.
Dear expert: How do i sync this with the feet? I am usually too far away to just throw it, it’s too short range. Can you explain how to step? Do I step first or simultaneous with the uppercut?
I love the bolo uppercut. But it is underused in boxing. Probably because of the glove size.
he said dont do that to have power in your punches you have to be able to used your legs so your punches have more meaning and power
The best time to uppercut is when someone gets too close to your face aggresively
Wait, so you only shift weight while throwing a punch if you are throwing a combination? You said this makes the uppercut more powerful. Is this true for every punch?
Awsome thank you Ive been doing it wrong Ive been dropping my arms
Joshua didn’t even know he’d thrown the upper cut against klitchko it was a fluke……fight deontay you coward
Thanks for the tip training in boxing but was not sure if I was doing right….
Doesn’t his training partner look a little like Floyd Mayweather?
Bernard Hopkins delivered the Mexican uppercut on De La Hoya
Hi, i see many of your videos. I find it very useful; but in this video i think that the tecnique it doesnt correct.
I think the correct tecnique for an uppercut is incline the upper body to the side of the arm to that we’ll go to throw, and we bend lighly the knees. When we throw the punch, this up to the chin, and we upper the knees for add power.
So:
Bend the knees and when throw “unbend” for add power.
Incline the upper body to the side of the arm to throw for get out of the line of attack of our opponent.
And my uppercuts up to the chin so much straight, in the video it seems to me that they up in diagonal.
Sorry for my english, i know that its far to be good.
It’s not bad advice but this uppercut is not going to have power on it. You really need to drive that right foot into the ground and less of a twist unlike a straight. If you’re throwing a left uppercut as ortho you’re better off going switch unless it’s a counter. Left uppercuts are unnatural and should be thrown sparingly.
Hey Shane I’ve been messing around lately with my punches and some fighters I watch snap hooks and punches using there elbow and hip is this a special techniqe. I think Connor McGregor does it and Stipe Miocic I’m pretty sure I saw Nick Diaz do it to
Yes and no. It depends on the context. If you’re throwing a combination, shifting weight can help set up the next punch. But it’s also possible to throw a powerful punch without shifting weight. Of course, the power would have to be generated in a different way.
In your ebook ‘How to box in 10 days’ you say to shift weight to the opposite leg of the punching hand. However here you say to bring your body to the site you’re throwing it from which puts the weight on your lead leg for a left uppercut and right leg for a rear uppercut. You do mention that in a combination you can shift weight. I like the shifting weight to the side you’re throwing from more then shifting to opposite sides I think
weightlifting power behind ur uppercut? r u kidding? there’s no speed there, that’s just pushing! why does every boxing coach teach this bull? you don’t bob your stance to do a powerful uppercut you just lock it in your arm does the movement not your stance, else you’re too slow and over-reaching thus have no defence and are easy to counter.
no wonder mcgregor totally schooled mayweather for two and a half rounds until he became tired and turned into a punchbag. boxing is so full of bull, it’s not advanced much since the days of the leaning back fisticuffs stance. no wonder guys like josh kelly and tyson fury can totally take the mick of ‘learned’ boxers by leaving hands down or behind back and waiting for the bull to turn up then exploiting it.
Adam Colberg is the best boxing instructor worldwide. He is vivid and down to the point.. YOU ARE WONDERFUL!!!
I’m not talking about breathing. I’m talking about what’s causing the heavy breathing.
Hey nice videos. I’m just wondering is it possible to uppercut someone around 6-8 inches taller?
Next up… the Asian uppercut, Black uppercut, Indian uppercut then samoan uppercut
Aj pre PED’S or as eddie would put it “before he had his wheetabix”
lol some1 has to be home, dont let it be the burglars, amazing tuition, u can see why maywweather is the best
U pivot on every shot!!!! We throw that same body shot always with a pivot! Its not a Mexican uppercut its a shovel hook
All youtube boxing gurus in a tournament….now…pay per view…lol
yo, Coach…
what do you think about the Right (trailing or rear) uppercut, to the head as an effective tool, against an orthodox bodypuncher, who wants to use the Left hook, to the body?
(think ‘kovalev v canelo’)
i believe kovalev should have been able to use it to keep canelo out and under the pressure of the ‘one/one/two’.
Yes, I do from time to time. Contact me through a private message if you’re serious.
What is the difference between a lead uppercut and a rear uppercut???
So you need gloves just to hit the air? I was doing it wrong all the way.
The few people who gave a thumbs down on this video, in the words of Roger Mayweather ” You don’t know shit about boxing”
When u thought u knew it all about the uppercut….Coach Anthony take u back to fundamentals. Awesome work Coach!
Brazeale got knocked out by throwing the lead left uppercut under a power straight right
he is teaching right to be able to excute a uppercut punch you have to lean to the side of that punch that you are throwing
Why the hell people picking on the instructor? He could knock you all in one punch.
Coach, love your videos…i think you should organise your uploaded videos into playlists. That would make it easier to access the specific content that people look for
I think it’s his signature move, he have KO lot of oppenenets with this uppercut!
Throw the uppercut FROM your face after you dip down. Dropping it down to your pocket first is BEG’N for NiteNite.
C’mon coach?
SHORYUKEN! ahem Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Great tip on not letting the hips rise with the uppercut, I felt it was hindering me the most during the movement. The rest is spot on with what my kickboxing coach has taught me: tight movement (hand not too low, quick snap back), proper foot pivoting and hip rotation. Getting underneath the punch feels just right.
Let me take the chance (timing is important 😉 to say that your site is a veritable cavern of treasures, where each article gives us prospective boxers a wealth of advice on not just technique but also attitude and most important of all, heart. Which is something that easily transpires from your writing.
Guilty Secret: I learned the basics of proper punching form from Sagat’s animation sprites in Street Fighter Alpha 3.:-P Shows how much of a fighting geek I am… And yes, he IS my favorite character. TIGER UPPERCUT!:-D

Everytime i throw a right uppercut i lose my Balance
can u help më or say what i am doing wrong
So in the combination I can do the uppercut with or without lifting the lead foot?
Watching it so I can play fitness boxing properly, anyone else? LOL. Very informative and helped immensely. The in game tutorial was not very accurate… the whole time I felt my movements were not a smooth flow, because I was doing things wrong haha!
Anybody have a video that shows how to uppercut the heavy bag? I want to know the part of the hand that is supposed to hit the bag.
There is also a wall-mounted bag thing at my gym that I think might be better suited to uppercuts. Are there any videos that show how to use that properly?
I like to combine fron jab with front upercat cuz many people dont expect that
He’s skinny here because its a very olldddd video, he was amateur here. Also all of you need to watch interviews by Eddie Hearn. He explains everything going on with AJ/Wilder fight. Stop yapping!
Johnny if I’m w eager to get opponent down ill jump with my uppercuts and it works. I saw Roy Jones do it. Ofcourse on the inside when opponent is fine do not jump. Windmill uppercut. Like the mention of Tyson pantented combo.
Is this actually good? I can’t really tell as I’m new to the discipline?
started boxing training with my Girlfriend mostly for exercise but your videos have helped her learn how to throw punches as well as helping me learn to fix the bad habits I picked up in the military thanks for the content. Wish i could show you the improvement just in my Ladies jabs its like day and night and we have been shadow boxing for like a week and watching your videos.
What do you think about shooting uppercuts with your heel down versus lifting your heel and pivoting on your toes? Normally if I know I wanna double up that lead hook I stay on my heel for a body shot then lift it for the second head shot. Some coaches want you to lift your heel every time but I think you wanna set up that second shot with a quick first hook.
I click the link in description but it takes me back to youtube..please help anyone

Thanks for these:). Stuck in during the lockdown and trying to improve my fundamentals at home!
So simple and logical, very well explained. All the info you need, just need to put in the practice myself.
Coach Anthony can you make a video on a shorter boxer fighting a taller opponent
Step 1 Take testosterone
Step 2 Take Clenbuterol
Step 3 Take a diuretic
love this guy; short, straight to the point. every time. I understood so much in a 4 mins video than a $40/1hr class in a local gym.
That’s the problem, it takes too much energy out. You’ll run out of endurance for the entire match.
Thanks man I really enjoy that video! Your uppercut looks smooth.
Great tips!!!! Sorry I like me a long upper love your channel…..huge fam of yours
I love how you always mention the opposite stance, since I’m a southpaw
I’m watching this because I want to protect myself not just for fun
The hip toe stance emphasis immediately increased my speed. Less pull back time
Added a lot of these tricks n tips into my sparring this shit fucking works happy I came across this channel!
he,s looking abit on the thin side? or is my hangover deceiving me
Thanks for the tutorial on upper cuts..!
Can you show us how to fight for the WBC belt..!
idk man, uppercuts go out not straight up…an uppercut thrown straight up can be avoided by pulling back, also dropping the arm before you fire it…a savvy opponent would make you pay if you throw that shot again..when i watch kid gavilan throw lead uppercuts they look hookercuts..and look safer and more practical, but tahts just me!
You upper cuts are more like a 45 degree punch…….Which in it’s self a powerful tool in one’s arsenal of punching technique……..A true upper cut should be thrown almost Straight up………Your videos are for the most part very good….This one is also!.. I just want to point out a detail regarding angle.
Could you make a video to teach a boxer how to fight a runner?
“nobody home” in my head…….thats what my wife says….. Great lesson, Thanks.
Thank you really helps me
Been problem to me that I can’t do uppercut but this video helps me a lot to do it correctly and more powerful.

Hi Shane, if you look at Conor Mcgregor he lands those long uppercuts, and it’s effective…
Good stuff man! Y’all quit crying, your getting this for free! Where your legs? Probley spread out, if your asking!
Could you, if you haven’t already, put a curriculum together? Or a playlist to learn step-by-step?
nice explanation! I didnt know that the uppercut was like a hook but upwards cause my coach told me to move my body a little lower and look at the oppenent’s chin or look at the guard while my head is down.Takes alot of time and chances of me getting countered. But anyways thanks for the tip its very helpfu. For now I dont get chance of being countered for that effortless uppercut.:D
oh I see there South Korea flag Thanks C.A. You help me a lot Good luck to you.
man….I love the way u said: Your chin is your house, so must be have people in your house
No Mortal Kombat? So I can’t punch them through the ceiling to change the stage?
@coachanthony excellent videos could you do one on eye placement. Should I look in their eyes or should I look at them center mass
Imagine if you told AJ in video he would be the world best Harvey weight champion and had WBA, IBF and IBO
Hardest part of the uppercut is learning the weight transfer from back leg to front while squatting at the same time
I disagree on the range from which it could be thrown effectively. Especially if you are a tall lanky boxer, you could throw it from long to mid range with ease and get that head of line of dire either as a counter or a part of an offensive combination. You going to derive the necessary leverage for it to be effective by scooping a bit with it without moving your elbow backwards and while landing twist it in at a 45° to the body or the head. To the body could be heart, kidney or solar flex. Pricing type shot.
Guys can y’all pray for me I’m 5-0 my dream is to become a professional boxer
Very useful! My uppercut always felt sloppy but after using the instructions in this video I’ve made it far smoother.
Coach Ant can we get a video on going into pockets when you punch?
Omg bro I was thinking today in the straight heavy bag how come I can get these uppercuts off (head) I’ve answered all my questions..I can go sleep now thanks bro
one thing I’m kind of confused with my coach said for the left upper cut normal stance should be using the back foot as a spring I don’t quite understand weight transfer for it?
When you throw that uppercut, do you imagine that you are holding a knife and slicing someone upwards? Can I exercise the technique this way?
grab opponents head in the 11th round with your left arm, right uppercut his chin.
I follow a lot of coaches on the internet, but you’re clearly the most prolific of all. Thank you.
big up man….ur videos r amazing… i am currently learning boxing techniques on my own with the help of ur vidz…thanks alot bro
Very helpful! I’m new to boxing, and I could definitely tell what I was doing was wrong because it felt so unnatural to me. Using your tips makes it feel a lot more intuitive. Thanks!

McCracken was originally cited as giving Joshua advice not to fight in the United States despite a $50m offer from Wilder’s team, with a latest interview conducted with the long-time promoter going one further and revealing the former Team GB head was against the fight happening at all right now.
“It is a decent fight. Povetkin is an old campaigner, he will be dangerous for three or four rounds and then what normally happens in fights for him is he starts running out of gas,” Warren told IFL TV.
“I would have preferred to have seen him in with Wilder but obviously that wasn’t to be.”
On why talks broke down, Warren say’s it Joshua’s trainer who didn’t want the fight to go ahead at this moment in time.
“They don’t seem like they want it. 100 percent Matchroom don’t want it. Robert McCracken doesn’t want it and everybody knows it.
“I told you from the beginning when they were all talking about this fight. I said it months before that he will be fighting Povetkin and that’s how it turned out to be,” he added.
Fat Ruiz is going to KO you Anthony. Better duck him. Tip from the future. Don’t ignore this ok.
Greets from Philippines
Great stuff coach! Much love from Central Cali.. 559 Fresno Ca
Joshua’s uppercut is lethal…and fast…nearly took wlads head off with it
YeAh, they’d being drinking houch for a few days before the video was shot. They can’t even get up on their toes!!
I know how to throw an uppercut. I want to know how you dodge the 900-pound gorilla sitting in the middle of the room. and meanwhile Dodge the 9 hundred pound media gorilla sitting in the middle of the room. oh yeah I’m not ready no mas no mas
Would love to see a foundation video talking about weight shift in your hips coach!
Easy trick to help improve your lead uppercut: don’t throw a lead uppercut.
what camera are you using to record these videos? I want to record myself doing various boxing punches and compare my form to yours. Your videos are awesome and have really helped me a lot, so thank you.
Best boxing channel on YouTube. Keep it up and you’ll have 100k+ subscribers in no time.
Great video! I always find nuggets of insight I hadn’t thought of on this channel.
As to #5, I like to have my students practice uppercuts off of a slip, drawing the shoulder toward the opposite knee to produce the body movement you demonstrated here. Also, for those who keep using too much arm, I have them grab their ear when loading up for the punch and then they can let go once they stand up into the uppercut.
Thanks for this awesome content!
Wilder watching these and learning how to throw a proper punch
uppercuts center mass kept tight to the for close range as a distraction for the knock out hooks punches.
You should be throwing a uppercut from your guard, which yours is poor.Your elbows are too much around to your sides which is leaving your body wide open which then makes you carry your hands too low!!
I think you need to go back to your fundamentals again
Joshua can hustle rock on the block till wilder fury fights out the way blah blah sky liking his bum hole clean well Eddie wipes up the wet
Hey Coach, I got a question: What are the pros and cons of changing into a heavier / lighter glove?
I’ve been using 16oz gloves since the start and I was thinking of using a 14oz glove for an amateur fight since you know, lighter means faster punches (?). Hope to hear from you.
More power to you Coach!
Even drunk, I would say that LITERALLY the opposite of what you’re saying is what generates maximum power.

Any drills to do to get fitness for a fight. Like so you don’t get really drained in the later rounds
He looked like a “Little Spaghetti hoop man” before the Steroids.
Legs like match-sticks here, I wonder what his weight was, I think around 15 and a half stone.. he looks at least two stone lighter then he is now.
The uppercut developed into Joshuas most potent weapon as a professional.
Teach us Anthony, and show the opponents how it’s done ✅ like Klitschko and Whyte
lololol. i was about to post something else but after seeing the way how he punched loll’ed med
He was so much smaller. He does have a wicked uppercut whether you like him or not.
i learned from this bus driver in Ohio already, and my battle cry when i throww an uppercut is you going to jail
Yes he missed with the hook vs Klitschko, but he followed it up by pushing down his head with his elbow. He’s never beaten a single world class opponent without having life and death, whyte he was rocked bad, Klitschko he was almost finished, Parker he refused to fight.
My breathing is powerful because it’s efficient. I’ve got strong lungs and breathing ability so everything I do has power in it. It doesn’t take me anymore energy to breathe this way.
Anthony Joshua usually grabs people by that back of the head and then uppercut opponent it’s called cheating
An uppercut is a much more linear strike than a hook. The mechanics are not the same. This dude usually knows his shit, but this is bad advice. Don’t throw your lead uppercut like a lead hook, that’s straight up wrong.
LOL, people who go down and up with their uppercuts. This isn’t Mortal Kombat.
The distance thing is super important in uppercuts AND hooks. I threw a hook from too far away in sparring last week and was already thinking about the next shot in my head so I flexed my arm too late. My buddy blocked right before I flexed my arm (my hand was also too high above my shoulder angle-wise) and my shoulder popped right out. Ouch… Always be in close when you throw that stuff and stay calm + concentrate on what youre throwing when you’re throwing it.
I like these videos very much and like to be professional boxer one day, these improves my skills
I want to tone my triceps. Is the uppercut a boxing move I could use?
Sir..can you post a video how to combine punch in heavy bag workout? I’ve trained your beginner, intermediate, and advanced heavy bag and need variation in combination, thanks Sir
I uppercut small children with this technique and they kick my ass, not clear enough instruction.
Just kidding, thanks!
Idk about the distance thing, i feel like in mma like connor does a lot, uppercuts from a distance is pretty effective
Do you have a favorite piece of equipment to work uppercut power?
Im really getting good now and i have another fight coming up, if i ever become pro i wont forget you <3
Your instructional technique is some of the best I’ve seen on YouTube; I particularly like how you show the move over and over again while you verbally describe it. And you show it from multiple angles.
