I’m wondering if I am diabetic. I’m getting it diagnosed this week. I think I’m hypoglcemic. If I work out for a long time or walk for a long time I get lightheaded and my nose and fingers get numb and my fingers curl. I feel sick and feel like puking and passing out. This is absolute gold…. i’m recovering from a bout of tennis elbow so I’ve been stuck with light and slow (and focusing on eccentric) for months but it’s been a revelation… i’ve corrected all sorts of problems in my form (that i never even knew i had) and i really feel like i’m in control of the weights now rather than like you said, shifting weights from A to B which is what i was definitely doing before. I would also 100% recommend anyone starting out training to do light and slow for months until they learn the correct form and know which muscles to focus their mind on as I’ve found that to be a fundamental part of lifting.
really good interesting vid thanks. I have type 1 and never appreciated all these effects of it when I go gym. The only reaI impact of it I felt was how I never had the energy or focus to go gym (or work hard if I was) when I had high sugars, it makes me lazy and lethargic. Im diabetic and am on a journey to become a body builder. I have a question: i have insulin then i have a feed, my BSL goes to around 14-15 but starts to drop almost immediatly and with in a hour or two its under 10. In short:
For shape/size gain, increasing volume is more important, which is the multiple of sets times reps times intensity(weight). 3-5 sets of 8-12 reps is the sweet spot.
For strength gain, lower reps are more important (1-5 reps per set with 85-100% 1rm)
I think your advice is dangerous. I read a research about protein intake. The 1.6 g was per kg not per pound. And it is the upper limit. Above that there are no benefits but danger of organ damage.

What I never understood is that when it comes to hypertrophy, people say to use moderate weights for high volume; however, when it comes to keeping muscle in a caloric deficit, they say use high weight in a lower volume. Wouldn’t that mean the best way to build muscle is to use high weights in low volume in a caloric surplus?

Hey jeff if i do a lot of exercises i don’t start burning from the first exercise i start burning from the start of the 2nd exercise should i restart the 1st exercise to for it to actually count. Like i did both if you don’t understand here is an example if i want to do 1 minute planche but i start burning from the 61th second should i restart my planche to 1 minute while burning meaning continuing to 2 minutes

I started lifting when I was 15 and made huge amounts of progress when it came to muscle size but strength was lacking up until I was 17 and started doing heavy sets with high reps. It seems to me that if you build endurance up when doing weight training is coincides with strength. I have a buddy who I workout with from time to time that does low reps and moderate weight and he’s strong but i do heavy weight with as many reps as I can do before failure.
I just thought I was skinny because I had a high metabolism and just accepted that fact. Today I learned something.

Been doing this now for just over three months. I’ve pretty much doubled the weight I can do in every exercise. At the start of the process I had a body composition printout done by my gym. I’ve recently had another one done and have dropped my body fat by 20%. Nothing massive to report on new muscle but, as stated above, I’m getting much more from existing muscle.

Tried it for the first time today. Thought I was pretty fit but time under tension soon highlighted my deficiency. Embarrassed by how light a weight I had to use. Certainly felt my muscles both whilst I was doing the exercises and afterwards.

I never understood why anyone would want to train for “strength”. Isnt the entire point of working out/exercising to be, feel, and mostly LOOK better!? Thanks for these videos man. I just subscribed! I’ve been type 1 for 21 years. You are 100% correct about hyperglycemia and the inability to grow muscle. After intense training I make sure to maintain excellent glucose levels in order for my body to heal myself and eliminate any possibilities of oxidative stress damage to my muscles and blood vessels. Stress is another another huge deal that many T1D don’t realize. I had a very stressful year and could not get my sugars to fall within acceptable range no matter what I was doing. It has to do with elevated cortisol levels, which in turn causes your glucose to go up. I can’t agree with you more about everything you said. A lot is trial and error, especially in the beginning of training. For all you other type1s, stay persistent and follow through and you will get there!!

Bro if you want muscle and strength just continue with progressive overload, especially if youre a natural training with less intensity but more volume isnt gonna do shit for you. This is how you work out and ik its like very complicated so bear with me, you first google how to do and what are the most important compound movements, next u go to the gym and u start doing those compound lifts with weights you can lift, you keep lifting that weight till it feels easy, after that u add more weight to the bar and guess what? Repeat till you hit a point in your training career where you cant go any further. Ik, super complicated shit. As for sets? 3 lol. Reps? Around 12 aka when the current weight feels easy aka when you should add more weight. There you go, now piss off and go lift instead of wasting your time with bullshit like this.

I’m a diabetic and I’ve been having trouble cause my hormones are messed up and for some reason my Dr does not care but most of the time doing something like running, heavy bag training, or cardio bag lowers my sugar. I went for a run yesterday and I thought I ate things that would raise my sugar a little high but I came back and my sugar was 78 so then I tried to eat something to get it more to normal levels and it jumped up to 203 but after an hour was down to 129 idk Its all crazy
When it comes to diet, how about alternating (for example) a weekly caloric surplus to caloric deficit? How would this work in relation to body composition? Because I have noticed that when I try to eat more than I normally would (caloric surplus) that my automatic tendency after a while is to start eating less again.

I think this is why its important to keep a diary. I err on the lighter side because i can always slow down and focus. But go too heavy and form goes out the window, risk of injury is greater, and i waste time taking plates off and starting over. Knowing how the weight affected me the last time gives me a better educated guess on where to start the next session. I put an up arrow if too light, a down if too heavy, and a line if it was good but maybe form suffered a little so i keep the weight until form is perfect. After a while it gets easier to guess and as long as im putting more plates on every week (even 5 lb ers) i know im doing something right.

I actually accidentally proved that eating more than the required amount of protein gives you amazing gains. Not that I’m amazing! But the speed you build is vastly different. Here’s what happened: two years ago, when I first tried lifting, I was reading food labels wrong, and buying certain meals that listed protein per 100 gr, while assuming that it was protein per the whole meal (such as breast + rice and other similar foods). I ended up making much more muscle that year than what I’m doing now while reading the labels correctly. And I didn’t lift at all last year, so it’s not that I’m “slowing down” I’m restarting.

Im 13 and I have very very high metabolism, it sucks, but recently I have started taking apetamin and it works!! I weigh 83 pounds and I am 4’9 I am supposed to intake 1,660 but I am intaking 2,250 at most. I recommend taking Ensure plus it has a lot of protein and it has 350 calories, I also bought my self protein powder, now it does taste nasty but I add it to my carnation (which is a powder kind of like nesquick and it also has a lot of calories and minerals)milk, and a banana. Each day I work out atleast 10 minutes with a pair or two of 10 pound dumbbells. This is only the beginning of my weight gain/ muscle journey but I believe it will work. This is interesting, as someone recently diagnosed with high blood glucose, I’ve also started hitting the weights again…I’ve actually noticed a pretty solid amount of progress in as little as a month. By progress I mean the changes in body composition, recovery times, and strength levels…maybe I’m just fortunate or maybe I’m just too early on but, I have not run into anything to suggest I’ve been suffering from these major/key drawbacks. I have a question about Protein: I’m French and we use kilograms. Over here, it’s said we should take 1,6g/1kg of bodyweight (not especially lean mass). 1kg = 2.2lb. Which means in France I already have to take around 200g-ish protein per day which is very high even with the best will…
So my question is, should I refer to my lean mass only, still in kilos and eat as much as i need protein which will be less than 200-ish and more around 180-ish g of protein. OR, should I convert my lean mass into lb and refer to that for my protein daily intake? Because that way, let’s say my lean mass is 85kg so x2.2 it’s 187lb x 1.6 = 299g of protein per day? That sounds already unachievable with 200g

Excellent! I heard about TUT training from a medical video. The doctor recommended it for improving/curing insulin resistance/diabetes. I can never get that burn when working my biceps but this worked with a pair of 6kg plastic toy dumbbells.

1) In working sets, should we ramp up weights in every set or should we keep the same? Also, if we are using the same weight how our reps target should be, should we try to achieve the same number of reps in every set? I’ve heard people saying using the same weight every working set doesn’t count.
2) After how many weeks should we change our splits and exercises?
3) I’ve heard people saying, for cutting do 15-16 reps. Is this correct and what should optimal rep range for cutting and bulking?

Sir my question is that i’ve heard it from my friends that the muscle building requires you to be on caloric surplus,is this true. If so then it will elevate the sugar levels causing hyperglycemia. So can we add a dose of fast acting insulin in afternoon time. Atm I’m taking 26 and 24 units of a slow acting insulin in morning and evening respectively. I’ve 5,6 nutrition plans,I got them from my friend. Half of them are fat loss programs and half are muscle building,they all have same protein to some extent but carbs are different.

Not everything I wanted was here, but, I have the incredibly high metabolism that doctors hate, and I still found great information here. hes right i can do 60 push ups fast all day and see no improvement after doing pushup slowly I saw results in 24 hours no joke.
20 sec (5 up, 5 hold up, 5 down, 5 down hold) x 8 reps is 2 min 40sec plus 12 more reps so let’s say 3 min tut. Isn’t 45-60 sec the avg tut per set the best? This is 3x as much….

I have been diabetic for 32 years. I also have chronic compartment syndrome. Basically when I run or do cardio or many other things my legs feel like a pop bottle that’s shaken up. Feels like they are gonna explode. I had surgery for this but it did not help. I get this same tightness in my forearms too. Know one seems to be able to help me with this problem and it effects my life so much. I was thinking maybe this condition is from my diabetes. Doctors say that diabetes should not cause the compartment syndrome symptoms though. So I’m posting this in hoped that.aybe someone out there has some similar issues or experience with these problems. I still think this may be an effect of my diabetes. Any input would be great?

Thanks for this. I used to work as a Paramedic & I usedbody weight exercises. It’s a good way to get lean muscle mass when one doesn’t have access to weight lifting equipment commonly used in today’s gyms. Pull ups are good to do. Resistance cables work well too. I love going to a weight room but sometimes life gets in the way & you can’t get there. Don’t take the easy way out. Do pullups. Pushups( wide grip, decline, incline,triceps) A set of adjustable dumbells work well too.
If your muscle gets bigger, it automatically gets stronger, so why all the bullshit about training for “size” or “strength” as separate categories.

here’s an anecdote from a 52 year old HARD gainer. currently 5’9″ 160. for several years I was working out (used to be in great shape) eating 2700 ish calories a day, I even tried T for a couple years and I got nothing but fat weight. I got lots of advise from people who claimed to “know” how to do it right; I gained nothing. I quit the juice back in December and quit working out for 6 mo. just started back a month ago, I am eating only about 1900 cal per day and not working out terribly hard but I made one change. while I was consuming about 180g of protein per day before it was clumped into bigger portions. For 30 days I have been eating 30 to 35g of protein EVERY 2 hours and it has made an enormous difference. In 30 days at 52 years old i just shed 3 lbs of fat and put on 6lbs of muscle per dexa scan. I am over the moon right now, what a huge epiphany.

this is what I try to tell my friend who is about 5,7 and 180 or so and he is trying to get back into working out because of work and everything, he already has really big arms so I told him that if he could do calisthenics with me for a couple months because he would look a lot better instead of gaining more size which he doesn’t need he would feel better if he got more definition and ripped and lose his stomach fat and look a lot better

Just a question. If you add weights to the pushups/pullups/pistol squats would it make your progression faster/easier? I don’t have access to a gym so I’ve been doing weighted pistols(around 15-20kg), I gave up on pushups because they were too easy and pullups because they were too hard haha. I want to gain both size and strength
I’m really into these videos. Everything’s kept fun and interesting, that’s always a good thing or I’ll just get bored of it. I watched your tips how to do a back handspring and back flip earlier, went to the local park in the evening and I was there for about half hour just practicing, haven’t done either yet though, it’s not lack of strength or flexibility, it’s still just lack of confidence doing those moves. Like you said though, repetition is important so I’ll be doing it often, I really hope to do them soon ; )

Nice to repattern wrong tehnics, but not for muscle growth imo. Shifting is a common newbie-problem connected with ambition to increase weights and low link between muscles and brain(to envolve a massive part of muscle fibers).

I’m supposedly type 2 and after a month of dieting the only time my blood glucose is over 6 is when I wake up, before I eat. I take 1 500 mg metformin at breakfast and by night after my workout my glucose is down to the 4’s. I’m starting to wonder if I even have type 2 diabetes. Taking metformin twice a day almost landed me in the hospital. I’m basically on a two small meal a day diet. Staying away from starches, sugars, and grains.
Im in my early 60’s and have had back surgery. I do love to weight train a little if im careful. Lighter weights suit me and i still have not bad muscle tone.

I think as long as you check your blood sugar level before the workout, have something before hand (but not if your level is high) and at your next meal do slightly less insulin to avoid a hypo as your body will be more sensitive to insulin after a workout.

The most important thing in doing bodyweight exercises is to do slow reps. Number of reps in not important. Quality of the reps is the key.

Hey love the information, I’m 23 and was diagnosed 3 years ago when trying to join the military and kept getting rejected at meps. Pretty disheartening because that’s what I felt destine to do. Ive never been over 170lb, I really want to try and build some mass as I’ve found exercising helps regulate with out insulin usage. I can’t seem to build and mass over 170. Does the book address weight loss also? I’m wanting to add muscle after losing more fat. I know muscle addition will quicken fat loss, but my focus is weight loss first then upping the lifting intensity to add more muscle.

If your muscular, but not as strong as you look then it’s a waste that you only build muscles instead of lifting heavy
Building both Muscles ands Strength makes you a classic strong guy, and there’s three things I want to achieve when working out:
1. Bulking up

Should you do controlled reps until failure? Or should you do them in like sets of 12 or something.
I eat healthy foods. I wanna be bigger but my abs won’t show up even though im working out 6days per wk. I want my abs to show up without flexing it. After wks i try to lessen carbs and it helps my abs to show up but my weight are decreasing. Its difficult for me to maintain it.

I quit my job when I learned of my diabetes. Now, I am surviving just fine but trying to deal handling life with diabetes on top of the recovery from the head injury. Isn’t strength mostly correlated to size of the muscle? How does the green line not produce more effective strength than the red?

I was just diagnosed with pre diabetes and little high cholesterol. It’s strange because I workout like 5 days a week, mostly weight training.
