I have committed to a regular, mostly daily home yoga practise for over two years and its thanks to you and your programmes. I have noticed a difference physically for sure (i was rocking the core today, something that i used to dread and hate but now do with a smile on my face!) but for me its been about connecting with my spirit and my breath (so this practise was spot on!) and how its carried off my mat into my consciousness, the way i treat others, deal with my emotions and being able to observe my actions and reactions on a daily basis. Just “weighing in” (pun intended) as a 48 year old mom of 6…I have been an exerciser for over 25 years, so I was overall in good shape, but I could not lose that final flabbiness for years in my belly…it was quite disheartening…I switched to “yoga only” 6 months ago (plus walking) and the belly fat is gone! Seriously! Definitely eating healthy too makes a huge difference…I do a mix of restorative and power yoga…I believe the restorative yoga was an integral part of the weight loss, since it significantly reduced my stress (we homeschool and I have 3 special needs kids who are very challenging)…there is plenty of evidence that belly fat is stored by cortisol release (the hormone released with stress…google it to see) so the restorative yoga is just as important as the power yoga…it may not burn as many calories, but it helps the body in a different way…blessings to you, Erin and thanks for your videos! Couldn’t have done it without you

However some of the vedic texts allthough vague, have some guidelines for how yogis should eat. I do my morning yoga fasted and I eat mostly low fat raw vegan afterwards for that natural high and good digestion of course…

I try to start Yoga years ago twice, with no success I have always been a very nervous person with a lot of anxiety that I could not find the calm to enjoy YOGA. But After 2 month of practising daily, I finally can say I did find the secret of YOGA and I am also enjoying it a lot! All THANK YOU AND MYSELF of course! I still struggle with many things but I definitely see myself improving and every morning I do feel the need to practice even if is for 10 min. I would like to give a feedback about the subtitles sometimes when you practice from the floor is very difficult to see the position with the letter on top will be possible to put them on the top of the screen? Also, do you have any specific video to learn about positions? And I realize sometimes in some of them my knees are painful that could be as I am very overweight. It’s completely changed my life . I have C-ptsd, and before beginning yoga I hadn’t found anything that really helped manage it long-term. I’m a 14 year old girl (sorry if that’s irrelevant oof-) who’s always felt an unhealthy amount of tension in her lower and upper bodyand I’ve been looking for a good yoga session on YouTube for a while and, by far, this is the best one I’ve done! I just did this whole thing on the first try, and though it wasn’t easy, it felt great! I’ve never felt more relaxed yet so pumped up and ready to take on the day! here’s several ideas for doing yoga to lose weight
Find a reputable program locally or online and stick to it
Do yoga with a friend so you have someone to help you
(I discovered these and why they work on Yaras yoga tactics site )
Losing weight is like 90% diet, and 10% exercise, and you said nothing about diet.
Looking into it and doing some quick and rough math. If you do Vinyasa Yoga about an hour a day, you’ll lose about a pound of week if you don’t change your diet at all. If you’re doing a less intense type of yoga, you’ll have to do even more or lose weight slower. Who has that kind of time?
By contrast, if you can cut 500 calories per day out of your diet, you’ll also lose a pound a week (pound of fat = 3500 Calories). Which is easier: 1-2 hours of yoga per day, or don’t eat as much food?
Not saying yoga wouldn’t help, of course it would, but it’s only going to give you a little edge, you need to diet to really lose weight.
Honestly tho, it’s not one size fits all, like you say. I’ve seen stories and have friends who have lost weight doing only yoga. But it doesn’t mean it works for everyone.
As a medical professional… There is an element of Yoga that does induce weight loss. The activation of uncommonly used muscles to hold yoga poses requires a good amount of caloric energy. This accompanied with hormonal production biologically associated with excercise can induce weight loss. The “trick” to it is constant progression… By that I mean steady increase of difficulty. If your body aclimates to it, you will regress in weight loss. Diet is also important but there is a lot to be said for the effectiveness of yoga in assisting in weight loss. It’s also, in my opinion, THE MOST effective way to begin exercising after extended periods of inactivity. It can help “prepare” your body for the challenges of more rigorous exercise.

I just found this video. I’ve been doing her 30 day dedicate yoga challenge. I’m On day 13 and i’ve Lost 15lbs. I’ve hated working out my entire life. I LOVE doing yoga with her everyday. It’s the first workout that I get excited to do and that I wake up wanting to do it already even though I do it at night. Not only is the weight loss an accomplishment, but my mental health as well is so much better. Whenever I have a bad day, it makes me feel better. I love her so much. I would love to meet her someday

I started doing suryanamaskar everyday. Started with 15 then 21 then by end of the month 36. I lost weight and my skin is glowing. I also feel great mentally. It takes me 25 mins to do 36 suryanamaskars. I am loving it! I am a vegetarian.
I disagree. Doing vinyasa yoga or other yoga styles that incorporate a lot of movement are GREAT ways to exercise and burn calories as well as increase muscle tone. Not all yoga is just stretching and breathing. You can lose weight doing yoga if you’re doing the kind that gets your heart rate up.
If you go from a seditary lifestyle you will lose weight and build muscle. But eventually your going to reach a plateau and need to change your diet, and add cardio or weights.

I wasn’t live, but viewed this a LOT easier than periscope, but as always, I am good with whatever is good for you. Not sure what level i am. I get sick so often, i seam to stay a beginner, but not unhappily so. I don’t care if I ever do a handstand. I don’t mind a balance pose, etc, because our bodies need that, etc…and I love form reminders, but don’t always hae to have themdoes that say my level, lol.
Anyway, I love and need yoga and walking. When I am able to do log practices, I actually do lose weight. But even a little helps my cortisol levels, etc.. and I am not extremely lean, but not an extremelly unhealthy weight either.
Funny, I am one of the clumsiest people on earth, but my fiancee thinks I am so graceful when doing a practice, and like I am ethereal or i another place in myselfor like another part of me is there. Does that mae sense? Its not that I am going inward, but like it releases a part of me he usually doesn’t get to see.

I currently have CFS, and recovering slowly. I use very gentle yoga when I feel I can. Even just gentle stretches, but sometimes it makes me feel a bit poorly, maybe I’m doing a bit too much, or maybe I’m releasing bad energy

So basically any form of exercise that gets your heart rate UP into the cardio zone is considered cardio. However, yoga can be used as strength training along with other types of cardio. Or it can play as both! It really just depends on your heart rate being in the cardio zone, which is usually between 140-170 depending on weight.
Yes i do feel lighter. Nicer. Calmer. More limber. And also more balanced, both emotionally and physically.

I think yoga can definitely be used to loose fat, however for maximal results doing it in the morning before breakfast would be an interesting window of opportunity. Otherwise taking any class that lasts longer than half an hour emphesizing vinyassas should also work to reach the fat burning zone. When it comes to other cardio for fat-loss cycling or epliticals are the safest, cause unless you’re an experienced runner, most unfit runners are prone to injuries, fat-loss is slow during injuries. Maybe another Q&A question since you’ve mentioned “clean” eating, are you vegan? I also agree that it’s virtually impossible to out-train a poor diet.

So we can say that ultimately or indirectly yoga helps losing weight. I know my yogi friend who lost around 70kgs after her started practicing yoga. Before yoga he tried swimming, gyming but everywhere people asked him to control his food cravings which was not possible for him so he was left disappointed. When he started yoga asana, pranayama and meditation all, he stated feeling that his food cravings reduced and eventually he found himself eating only thing that was needed to eat and then he turned vegan. And fir all this he did not have to make any efforts, it was yoga that calmed his mind and stopped his cravings. So yoga does help in weight loss.

Ever since quarantine started, I have been doing your 20-30 minute yoga exercises twice a day. (Morning and night.) It’s amazing how I feel after completing your yoga, there are no words to explain. I’m a beginner and always been a contact sport athlete and bodybuilder. Got started in Yoga to connect with my wife and her fitness routine. The endorphin high after a Yoga class got me hooked and my weight loss motivation is to enhance my Yoga performance. My mindset has changed and is centered around control and mastery of my body’s abilities in a way I’ve never experienced in my 30+ years of athletics. Ya but this is still not a satisfying explanation because I wanted to have addressed the actual workout of an intense yoga flow class where you come out sweating and I always wonder how much calories I burnt (approximate) I know it depends on how each person put into it but I think there is actual calorie burning part that occurs and your muscles get toned and lifted which is related to fat burning?, fitness? and therefore some weight loss… I mean I get that you cant be eating 10 hamburgers and do a 30 min yoga class and expect to loose weight but I wasnt satisfied with the yoga as just a compliment to weight loss plan answer because I think I do believe depending on how hard you do your yoga, there is actually an intense calorie burn part to it as well??

Didn’t feel up to my normal exercise today and decided to do this yoga practice instead. So glad I did! Felt so nice to get energized but in a peaceful way.
I think it depends on the type of yoga and your personal fitness level. I was kickboxing twice a week and working out another additional 4 times a week and Bryan Kest’s power yoga videos from the 90s (on youtube) still kicked my behind, heart racing, muscles burning, sore the next day, kicked my butt. This is too subjective to be the final word on this, sorry, yoga can help you torch massive calories and build muscle which in turn torches calories. Yes, you can do yoga for weight loss.
I am so happy to find this channel. I am an Indian and yoga is something that’s taught to almost every person in India right from an early age as an extra-curricular activity. I completely agree with this!! I lift heavy weights and am a bodybuilder. I found myself there, and I love that grind. But, that also gets you “hopped up” and feeling a bit Hulk-ish. Yoga has centered me. It keeps me grounded. It makes me happy and “brings me down” from that Hulk-ish feeling. It also keeps me flexible to keep going back for more at the gym, too. And your videos challenge me in new ways, which I also love! But, without keeping my diet clean as well, even with hard workouts daily, I was not able to lose body fat. It is definitely a trifecta! Hard work on the mat, hard work in the gym, hard work in the kitchen!! And thank you for everything!!! You’re awesome! (And you introduced me to Sean Vigue who supports my fitness in a different way too! You both are part of my daily routine!)

Okay but I Litterally do three 25 minute yoga sessions a day and dropped 3 dress sizes in a few months… never changed my diet as I was already eating healthy so it’s worked for me….
I used to run and cycle for miles. I also used to do crossfit with a group and also had a personal trainer. I love the adrenaline of it all so I used to shun away from yoga at all costs because it was too ‘boring’ for my taste. Theeeeen I injured my back from work. It’s been almost a year and I’m still recovering…anyway I started doing yoga about a month and a half ago and its life changing!!! I’m still in beginner level because of my injury but I can feel a release in my muscles all around (and even my emotions) and new strength that I never got with previous exercises. I had a love/hate relationship with crossfit because afterwards I felt I was drained from my energy and almost felt lethargic yet felt accomplished for finishing, later I found I have pcos so that’s why I felt drained because my hormones were all over the place.
I’ve started DDP Yoga rehabilitation level and then I do another yoga video but I dont know which kind of yoga it is, description says sun power yoga. But I love that one. It’s like you said it inherently makes you love yourself somehow. It makes me feel so good!! I love yoga now I want to keep doing it as long as I can. But I would advise that anyone starting out dont be discouraged if you dont get it in the beginning your body will progress and it might be the instructor that you need to switch out. Everyone learns a slightly different way inso teaches a slightly different way. I think I’ve switched video instructors about 12x on YouTube and amazon prime. Does anyone else with low blood pressure struggle with all the forward folds? I get intense head rushes and start feeling incredibly nauseous after doing them so I have to skip them, but they’re in almost every one of Adriene’s videos. Good morning Adriene, so I have a friend who had never done yoga. She was feeling stiff in her back and sluggish, so I put down a couple mats and one of your videos. We practiced in her living room and at the end you sang a little tune. By the time we finished, her back felt better but your little song brought her warmth. She not only smiled but it made her laugh. So when I left she was a new girl and that was a few weeks ago. She is still talking about your cute little song. You are absolutely correct madam I reduced 4 to 5 kgs through some food diets but very frequently I am affected by cold…. sometimes I won’t be able to wash vessels also because running nose starts immediately Please suggest how to come out of this problem
