It certainly does create muscle, i started doing 10k walks every other day and my legs have more muscle than ever before, also my back, neck and arms are a lot stronger. I am 69 yr old female struggling with nerve pain in my legs and hips.
I am doing 10 min./2% incline/2 mph right now.
I hope to be able to increase to 10 min. twice a day soon…. then maybe to three times a day.
I don’t tolerate long periods on the treadmill….I get bored.

I believe 10 min. is better than no minutes a day.
Walking on the treadmill I can hold on for balance.
I love to walk outside but in our city the sidewalks are not in good repair and many older adults have nasty falls.
The same with walking a wooded trail.

I love these workouts. I’ve done the ones on YouTube for awhile now with no problems. However I just purchased the app and they videos will not play well. They won’t start for 4-5 minutes after pushing play then they stop for several minutes after about 6-8 minutes. I can’t deal! I want the app and all of the workouts but want it to work right. I decided to try this vid after slowly rebuilding my body back up from a double knee injury. I restarted on 1 mile in June and incremented by 5 min every week. Today I did 40 min for the first time in a long time w/ no pain. I recognized this vid was from my 1st walking at home dvd set I had in 2014. These were my 2 fav segments out the entire set. I walk after breakfast in the morning and do house chores for about 3 hours. Then after lunch I walk for about 20 to 30 mins. And after and hour I go to my computer institute by walking. In the evening I walk for about 30 mins or 40 mins. And after dinner I walk for about 2 hours. Btw I’m 18 years old and I’m 5’1 tall and I weight about 37kgs or 38kgs. I eat about 800-950 calories a day.

I’m 53 and walked for at least 35 years. Sometimes a few miles sometimes up to 40. The benifit of walking clears my head, slows down the pace of life. I don’t plug in music just look around and listen to what’s around. When running you can miss stuff. After a reasonably good walk I come home calm and relaxed.
There’s no gym at the moment due to corona virus so I walk around my neighbourhood or to local nature spots. It helps everything.

One of the many virtues of owning a dog (particularly a breed that requires daily exercise) is that it will force you out of the house to walk, even in lousy weather. Unless it rains all day, I walk my dog at least a half hour to 45 minutes every day, at a minimum. For much of the year, we also do hikes of 3 to 10 miles two or three times a week.
I walk 2.5mile once a day and it takes 1hr. My 2 small chihuahuas and I all enjoy our walk together.
im finding walking is good to replace easy running in a running program of training. So, still do the hard fast runs….. but rest of time instead of easy running for an hour a day… I just crank up the incline on tread to 12% and walk 3.7 mph. And what happens is you get the low intensity cardio of easy pace running without the shock to joints… bones… tendons… etc… this means can fit more training in without injury…. can run harder on fast days too. Good stuff.

You just walk as fast as you can without hurting yourself. Since Lockdown began,I have started a physical training regime which includes a daily walk of 10k steps,which has been a revelation…it has turned me into something of an urban explorer,and has gotten me walking around neighbourhoods and parks away from my local area that I would never have any reason to visit otherwise…the mental,not to mention physical benefits of walking have been an eye opener…

Some days you tell yourself “I don’t feel like walking today”. Unless you are hurt or sick that is the best time to walk. You will thank yourself for it. I am one of those who can’t see the logic in using a treadmill. If you are going to walk then walk. Doing it out doors you have the added benefit of fresh air and sunshine. If the weather is bad an indoor track is still better than a treadmill. Take along some music to battle the boredom and monotony. Happy walking and happy health.

I also disagree, I hike on average 10 miles per day 5 days per week with a weighted pack. My entire body has toned up and I have drastically lost fat.

Awesome!!!!! I use to feel like I had to jog or run in order to get a good workout but I came to realize walking is a great exercise and sense I am older and gained some weight, it’s better on my joints. I try for 10000 steps a day on my fitbit. Cycling is another alternative for me too. Thanks for the info.

Walking is a useless exercise for weight loss for people who want to loose more than 5 kilos.
Fasting if not having any medical condition is much better.
Eating as much less as possible IS EASIER.
Only one meal a day if possible is AMAZING.
AVOID POTATO.RICE AND REFINED SUGAR.WEIGHT LOSS WILL BE RAPID.
people having 2 to 4 kilos extra weight can try walking.
But for obese people walking is
Useless.
very fast walking for only 20 minutes is enough for normal weight people.
For a slim figure eat minimum.
Also doing a number of physical activities like gardening sweeping the floor
SWIMMING CYCLING SURYANAMASKAR IS MUCH BETTER.
IN FACT WALKING CAN put stress on your mind because it gives very slow results.

i am addicted to walking…i am 65 and have been exerising all my life,,i feel sluggish if i go 2-3 days without exerising…
Great video. Walking helps control my BP and arthritis. I’m 64 and walk 4 to 5 miles a day (1-1/2 hrs/day). It’s also a great time to reflect, pray, meditate, Etc.
I’d like to know more about how different levels, such as speed, duration, and frequency of waking affect health.
I love your 30 min walk away the pounds,you make it so easy if it wasn’t for your videos I would have never recover from my foot surgery…..thank you…..

I have multiple lumbar spinal surgeries over 5 yrs ago and pain was unbearable. Now I’m started to walk daily if possible 30 mins to help ease the pain and gives me strength!

Absolutely love walking. My wife and family thinks I crazy but most of the time I walk from and to work. It is only a 1 mile walk. Most days I walk 10,000 steps.

Walking. There is benefits clearly. But the value is tiny. Or a small part of a total program/approach. Has to be a “proper diet” and there needs to be some vigorous exercise. Using weights would help greatly. Even if not trying to be the next Olympic Weightlifter, Powerlifting champion…..etc. Still benefits one more than ONLY walking. And the walking would need to be at a brisk pace…on uneven ground, up and down steep hills…etc.it’s “better than doing nothing at all” but has to be a part of a larger plan of attack for better fitness/health.
I’m 63 and used to walk 2 miles a day and did jazzercise for years. l fell off the wagon big time. And l sit all day working from home. I have to start walking again. My muscles are so tight from sitting

I walk 3 hours minimum in my work day and I’m not fit? I have a belly I feel tired as well. Not convinced walking is improving my health notably.

I walk at least 10.000 steps a day and most of the time 15000 I do one big session or 2 smaller. At least 45 min a day:) everytime I feel so good after and ready to boost myself and do other staff!

Walking is the easiest way to get in shape and stay in shape. The biggest surprise I found when walking was the benefits of my mindset. Oh my goodness this was a good one. I love how you added the cool down pieces. My 74 year old mother hung in there and completed the walk. The knee lifts she couldn’t coordinate so I advised her to relax and just walk but she kept giving it a try. Really good session. Thank you

I’m 44 years old I walk about 5 to 10 miles every day when it’s raining or snowing I use my Sole E35 for 99.99 minutes about 6 to 8 miles on that
I walk around 35-40 miles each week (I’m 32). I started walking very short distances when I was very obese to get into moving again. I increased the distances slowly, but it really helped. Now, 2 years later and 66 pounds lighter, I can’t live without my (long) daily walks anymore.

Benefits of my heel and toe walking Regime
For some time now my feet have been killing me, I did a lot of limping, I tried insoles and other stuff, no good at all, I went on line seeking help, one web site suggested what they call heel and toe walking, striking the floor with your heel, rolling the feet and taking off on your toes, I took it seriously, I think I must have been walking flat footed, here are the amazing things that happened.
Wonderful, life changing!
Balance.
Correct walking affects the muscles in the feet, the legs and beyond.
I don’t limp anymore the reason I started this method of walking.
For a short while my thigh muscles ached, that is good.
I can now wear shoes I was reluctant to wear because they hurt my feet.
I am not at all unsteady when I walk now.
Walking on cobbled streets in my home town I always avoided because I felt unsteady walking on them, not anymore I make a point of walking on them now.
Steps I avoided because I felt unsteady walking up and down them, much better.
I feel a lot more confident.

The Pelvic Floor Muscle.
I had prostate cancer some years ago and had to have it surgically removed resulting in incontinence, I did the kegal exercises but it was a waste of time so I gave up, I wear pads and change them every day sometimes twice a day, after doing my new walking regime after not very long I noticed one night when I took one off it was dry, never happened before, now they are either dry or not very wet, also every morning about six I need to pee, I had to grab my willy to stop myself peeing on the floor on my way to the toilet, not anymore, if I was caught short often I would wet myself as I undid my pants, not anymore, I wore my pads for three days with hardly any leakage!
One problem was drinking beer, bitter/real ale, if I tried a pint it was as if my body was a drain pipe, I quickly wet my pants, it’s a diuretic, Guinness and wine were OK, after the improvements with the pad I decided to try and drink a pint to see what would happen, I stayed dry, next day I had two pints, I stayed dry!
As I said wonderful and life changing.
Not bad for a man who is 79 years old!
