I would add, understand what motivates you. David Rock’s says that we’re all motivated in one of five ways that he defines as the SCARF model. We’re either motivated by Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness or Fairness. Understanding what keeps you motivated, especially during a training cycle, will help you pick the right personality and style of coach. If you’re motivated by relatedness, you may want a coach that is more nurturing. If you’re motivated by status you may want a more well known coach that can give you the tough love to make you your best.
You’re going to be an amazing coach!
I have been thinking about hiring a coach… thanks for this video. Great information.
Thank you for this! I have been looking for something like this and the links you provided. My favorite running channel! Always so positive and uplifting!!
Never heard or thought about this until recently but if it is affordable I think it would benefit me to get ready for my first set of runs after a few years away from running. Something definitely to think about since I am feeling overwhelmed with my training.
Ended yesterday my long run ( nike run club plan) 15 km with pace 4´43´´. Before i did understand that long runs may only be slower:)! Today was my recovery run 5 km with pace 4´49´´ and my legs are not tired:) at the age of 35. Race is at 22.08 as well. On this week i did some tempo run (5 km3´57´´) and interval training (8 x 400 mpace 3´34´´). Well lets go to be ready for tis competitionglad to represent my new club:)!
I have a tendency to overthink everything. That’s the reason I end up looking for information about “how to start running”… Good video, I basically have to run now:)
I am thinking about this, I really want to hire one if I eventually try to qualify for Boston. It could be a few years from now.
@Nike, Please bring up these series, love Coach Bennett and his charisma:D
Couldn’t agree more. Had a coach for initial weight-loss and she got me into running/helped me through my first half-marathon/challenge. I consider her a very good friend now. Trying another coach for the marathon (as I figured mine would have her hands full running Boston this year)….fingers crossed he can handle my complaining and I that I make it across the finish line!
What did I just watch? Awesome video…and I want a mustache like Coach.
That was so Keegan Michael Key the way the coach popped up in the background.
That colour combination nice. https://empirecollection.co.uk/
After doing tons of guided runs, Coach’s voice is making my brain wanting to run again right now…
