Jeeze Louise, why is this all about algebra?? Cripes, I sucked at math!! Here’s what I do, get my phone, put the ear buds in, play my music (loudly), I walk fast, jog a bit, then fast walk again. And, NO ALGEBRA INCLUDED!!! Holy shit, this is crazy stupidness. Speaking dumbbell????
Folks, your body cannot metabolize 25lbs of fat in 30 days. It’s humanly impossible to do that. At best you can do about 1.0-1.2% of your body weight in a week if you’re obese, less if you are only a little overweight. You lose fat by sweating, breathing, taking dumps, but mostly breathing. Your body can only burn it so fast, doesn’t matter how much exercise you get. More exercise isn’t always better cause at some point your body will start eating it’s own muscle and shedding water, and at that point your metabolism slows way the hell down and you stop burning fat even.
Yall in the comments are so fucking annoying like stop complaining you clicked the video so… I personally found this informative I didn’t know adding weight while walking would help for weight loss.
Walking up hills seems rad until you realize the trip back is all downhill.. its a zero sum game homie. I’m not my grandpa, I cant walk uphill both ways.
True… inclination makes you burn more….walking with weight is a punishment in the army to burn excess fat for lazy guys☺
Funny…videos like these…are…..4/5 of BS and the rest….how to….
If you live in a city, use parking garages. Here in Houston we do hill work running and walking in the parking garages. Does an awesome job.
Why does everybody use 7000 words to say what they can say in 2 sentences??
already a walker…but some good tips,..variety of route, cooling down exercises and breathy talking!!…refreshing not to have someone trying to sell you something..go coach!
Starting off today July 14th 2020. Am 40 years height 5.8 weighing 203 pounds. I walked 5 kilometers carrying an 8 pound weight bar. Will keep updating you
Oh I can’t stand the sqeeky noise of the marker. Can’t watch the video due to this. It gives me goose bumps
Couldn’t understand a thing about the numbers! What does that breakdown in miles.. inches… feet.. calories?
Great explanation up until the exaggerated math “10 times!”. Weight increase x distance increase was 9/7 x 1.173 = 1.51. That’s 1.5 times, ie 50% more calories burned in the same amount of time (300 calories becomes 450, not 3000). Still solid and worth doing though
My ankle weights, to use on my daily walks, arrived today.
And later your video shows up as a recommendation. Hmmm…
Wow.. Just realized I’m already on the loosing end.. I’m walking 9 k steps a day.. Intermittent fasting feeling crappy.. And barely loosing weight.. I’m.exausted and at this point close to depression.
He does not know simple Physics. The unit for force is Newtons and not kg. I stopped watching when I saw that.
I mean Goku did it on his way preparing to battle Frieza on Namek. I think it would work to make you stronger by adding the extra weight.
Walking is a great way to increase N.E.A.T. which is non-exercise activity thermogenesis which is the calories you burn when not doing an intense exercise. It’s about tracking the steps you take each day and slowly try to increase them as you drop weight so you don’t plateau
New approache to me, worth trying; make sense! Thank you. Hope to see some results.
Food for thought as I actually chose walking to loose some weight: I’m just shy of 90kg, burning 2000 kcal over 22km walk that takes me about 3:40h. Let’s calculate: 25 Ibs in 30 days is 0.83 lbs per day, so about 2900 kcal per day so about 30km of walking per day EVERY DAY for 30 days straight. ^^’
For you crap-ass comments… simple idea…put a crap load of weight on your back an get this…walk your ass Up Hill!!! Great video walking guy
Walking with weights hurts my back and knees….so…leaving now.
I have been walking for months, and have lost only a couple of pounds. Sigh.
There’s 10 minutes of my life wasted on clickbait. The only thing that made it worth my time was reading all the people complaining about the metric system. You know there’s only like 3 countries in the entire world that still use imperial?
I was a very lazy ass.. if I can do it anyone can do it….I was 120 KG and just by walking 8 km daily in 1 hour 20 min I have lost 30 KG weight in 4 Months. Also My hunger is suppressed, I eat 40% proteins 40% Fibrous carbs and just 20% starchy carbs.. it’s tough to control in the beginning for 3 weeks but you will be motivated by seeing results for sure and it will become a part of your lifestyle. Still Doing it….. All the best for your Future…
It’s not so much of walking!!! It is mainly what you put in your mouth!!!!
He needs to hire an editor to make it simpler, clearer, and less detours.
Very cool. I’ve been walking a lot lately I will definitely consider adding a weight to my back pack moving forward.
Super great tips here Greg. I love it so much that I have included your video in my latest blog post about the benefits of walking http://www.fitnesstipsforlife.com/walking-to-lose-weight-a-simple-but-effective-method.html
Is there any apps whic can track Mobile as well as record in pc.
Ok so wearing a weighted chest pack and walking in an incline. Ok got it.
Using treadmills are stupid.
Go outside and get some sunlight.
Go to a skyscraper and ask to use the stairs to practice for climbing a mountain.
I can’t even walk more that 10 minutes on a manual incline treadmill, my legs started hurting. What to do to increase the time? How can I get rid of such pain
I lost 20 lbs in 30 days by walking and switching my diet to keto…
Will you get the same benefit when walking downhill as walking uphill? When you walk uphill, you will eventually need to return where you start.
Me n my friend, gossiping, while walking 5-7km everyday ..
Thanks for the tips, but let’s not forget that you don’t want to be out of breath to maximize fat burn, otherwise you just burn carbs in that unaerobic state. Low intensity for longer will priorities fat burn better.
In addition Yuri, as an engineer, I have to say that the math is really off. I would say that Energy in walking is more the activation of your legs and not the weight of the torso it carries, so I think more efficient is to put the weights on your legs ankles and not the west around your torso.
Nevertheless, the end point is good, use more energy for same time and pase
I lost 18 pounds in one months from walking about 6km to 8km.
before watching this video
OMG! Like it or not, we dont learn the metric system in the US.
U lost me. Thank god learned what the hell u were talking about from comments.
Agreed, but the downside of the vest is that it increases compression of the column, and agravates/creates back problems
I find that walking slightly faster than I’m comfortable with also gives a good workout. Example, it takes 6 minutes to the train station so I walk it in 4 minutes.
I agree with everything he said. It is good advice. There is one negative element though. An overweight person is already straining their joints such as knees, hips and back. If you add weight to that, you are adding even more stress onto your skeletal system particularly all your joints. If you are moderately overweight then go for it. If you are really big though, then I suggest not using weights, but do everything more gently. The better increase is simply an increase in distance. When you are only moderately overweight but fairly fit, then by all means throw on a pack and include some hills. If you are in dreadful shape, or a bit older, or very sedentary, its good to get a doc to check you over first. running up a steep hill with a 20 kgs or more pack is a good method to get a heart attack if you have any preexisting condition.
Interesting video. However it doesn’t take into account another interesting aspect about walking: it’s not just about burning calories but it also helps lower cortisol and stress which helps stimulate more fat burning. So increasing workload in of itself may not necessarily be helpful for weight loss if it adds more stress to the body.
Surprisingly he didn’t lose me at w=Fxd. It was the 70 kilograms that fell on dead ears. Obviously math was not my favorite subject.
i walked 10 miles a day for a week, now I’m 70 miles from home!
This is great! Thanks! But Toronto is NOT flat, only portions of it. I walk in the ravines a lot, lots of up and down.
I lost 25 lbs in brain cells waiting for the mad professor to get to the point!!! Sorry dude you’re obviously book smart, but quick social tip… Get to the point 9 minutes faster and without the math lesson.
Ohh my God.. Don’t do this to Physics, Maths and finally to people. Work = Force * Displacement basically when they are in same direction. The Weight is the Force basically in perpendicular direction to the Displacement here..so the Work done is 0. In the last part, the total work Done is.173*Force*Distance assuming Theta is about 30 Degrees. So the Total Work done is 90*9.81(Acceleration due to Gravity) * 1000 *.173
this is the only video that makes too much sense.. less talk and awesome input thanks
Some good tips here. However two points are incorrect:
1) Do NOT attempt to build up to walking 7 days a week… this is bad advice. Walking 6 days a week should be your goal. Always take at least one complete rest day per week. (yes even from walking)
2) Cooling down is pointless. It literally does NOTHING… but if you enjoy wasting time, or you have time to waste… then knock yourself out. But it is not necessary at all.
So for women, a relaxing walk is for reducing stress and so reducing cortisol that contributes to belly fat. That being said I think this style of workout walking has it’s place, but maybe not everyday.
I am sooo confused with my engineering basics atm. Thank you
Does walking speed affect the amount of weight loss/work done?
Walking with extra weights will certainly help in losing weight faster, but like everything in life their is a trade off.
If you need to put on weights to lose the weight that would mean you have not been very active which means your body is not ready and you need to allow the body to adapt to walking normally without weights.Once you are stronger then small amounts of weights can be slowly added. If you dont do this your back, hips, knees, ankles and feet will pay the price.
I heard you can get water in your knees if you use weights in a vest… is this true or just a misconception.
Your calculation is wrong, the angle actually decrease work because you are multiplying it by 0.5 if your angle is 60° that is same as dividing by 2. But I get your whole idea to do the exact same work you need to apply more force since F=w/d cos ፀ
“Really, I’m trying to make this as simple as possible.” ( 6:52) Liar, liar, pants on fire. Who do you think you’re talking to? An advanced engineering class at M.I.T.? Listen, ace, I grew up in Colorado and I know all about uphill trails and 70-pound backpacks, how much weight you can lose during a week in the high country, and how awesome it feels to take that pack OFF at a campsite. Then there was “humping the boonies” in Vietnam, carrying 60 or 70 pounds of gear. It causes PAIN & SUFFERING, even at age 20. Now I’m 68. Maybe 25 pounds of groceries, 3 or 4 miles?
His kg to lbs is backwards. 90kg = approx 200 lbs.
50lbs = approx 22 kg
Heaven help us, he’s an engineer. He loves equations, not words. He introduces TRIGONOMETRY FUNCTIONS in an exercise video. And he has barking dogS (plural.) I’ll never understand why almost 2 million people made it through this video. I’m at 5:38 and wondering how much longer I can last.
Already started walking I do about 3 to 4 miles per day I intend to increase my distance
What about speed walking? I think that was popular for awhile in the 90s?
Walk for the enjoyment of being outside getting fresh air. If you want to add weights for a workout, then that’s your decision. Whatever you do, just enjoy it and have fun.
Wise Monkey says before giving a mule the fireman’s lift up a hill, think of your knees. Go swift and light Grasshopper.
But the hand rails are so much easier to hold on to lol
Thanks for the tips…also from TO.
