The legs barely leaving the ground + the crossover gait of the legs is actually quite similar to my natural running form!
I know there are ten year olds taking notes right now. They tryna get to lunch as fast as possible without running
you should make a video of how to put the shoes on because i’m stuck at this step
jog/run if you want to do exercise, and do sit ups to define your abs and save yourself the shame:)
I don’t know if it’s a he or she. But I know he or she is related to justin bieber.
Honestly, racewalking is fucking retarded. Just go on a fast paced walk, or jog/run if you feel like it. You don’t need any proper technique to get out and go on a walk.
good content, however was the narration computer voice generated? as a professional announcer i find that type very difficult to listen to? compared to a human.
For those who can’t manage the running impact on knees and back. I guess no excuses with this one.
Most under rated sport ever, it’s probably one of the most technical. In Italy it’s called il bel gioco.
how much training before I can wear a full blue suit with a sonic like helmet, hehe, anybody? heck yeah, appreciate the video, it seems I might be a natural racewalker, still practicing though I’m not fast, but I want to loose weight. do you think race walking burns more calories?
The giggles in the end is priceless lol great technique thanks a lot!
4:13 “and then he turned purple” bwahahaha….best part of the video: demonstrates that they have lots of air (and are having fun)
Thank you!!! for the detailed instruction on race walking!!!!!! always wanted to know how but did not realize there was so much detail in the proper way to do so!!!
Similar to dancing the twist! You sure have a great memory! Nice video though heel to toe walking seems to have many advocates.
if you’re gonna make this video..can you get an ACTUAL racewalker to do it?
Thanks for the suggestion to avoid the rules! Your demo and explanation make much better sense than the training method I’ve used.
Another great video for racewalking. Thank you Ian for advancing the sport in a scientific methodology for beginners. Your efforts will pay off in 5 or 10 years! Jesi and Tori will be on the USA National Team for years. Cheers!
@Alexcsgsp I think it’s cool music, but should at least be turned down.
He’s saying (for him/for some) technique is not the main point, but rather the gender of the person demonstrating.
You can get best workout for 10 dollars, just look on Unflexal website.
I achieved a lot of walk race technique through your explanation. Thank you so much and keep on.
she;s a woman? i thought she was he.. in the very beginning…
lmao how could i have been so blind after all thease years i do not know how walk my leggs were like spaghetti nodules until this sheman came along
For me, the interesting thing about racewalking is the combination of exertion and restraint. I can just imagine it: here I am, walking just as fast as I can, and there is this one guy ahead of me. I push myself harder, I try my best, I do everything I can to pass this guy who is BEATING ME… except of course for the one thing that would let me fly right past him: I don’t run.
Exertion/Restraint
That’s what makes it interesting to me.
Stretching before exercise is a way to cause injury, not prevent it. You shouldn’t stretch unless your muscles are warm, plus it serves no purpose before exercise. After exercise it’s useful to reduce stiffness and DOMS. Those shoes are also not great for any kind of walking/running or anything, too much offset and cushioning, although I’m sure the maximalist brigade would appreciate the cushioning.
Interesting that during slo-mo video there is NO double contact phase. As a racewalker years ago I always questioned the subjective judging as it pertains to “lifting”. My thought is that if every elite racewalker is lifting all the time how can that rule be inforced. Some walkers are clearly able to camouflage this infraction better than others.
Have a good suggestion for what we should teach the boy next? Leave your ideas in the comments!
The thing about racewalking is that it’s so technically difficult that even some of the Olympic walkers accidentally get disqualified because both their feet leave the ground.
It’s a dumb sport but in my experience requires way more concentration than running.
step 12 scream “get that spider off of my back cuz’ i can’t bend my hands backward!” as loud as you can.
Congratulations… you now look like you’ve been trying too much ^_^
Is it possible to racewalk at a 13 min per mile pace carrying a backpack weighing perhaps 45 lbs?
Trying to learn to race walk after an injury has made running at a decent pace essentially physiologically impossible for me. Hopeful I can racewalk instead.
I have watched many useless vidoes, this one is up there. Half the video is about preparing to “racewalk”
sorry for all the hurtful comments. Thanks for sharing your technique
If you would like additional information check out Racewalk Clinic. com
Thank you! It means that I can take that big TV with the cassette player for the original tape of this off of the dryer in the garage!
My local shoe store doesn’t have a Racewalk Shoe section…FUCK
Hi there i tor my cartilage a few years ago and had 2 ops to sort them out. I was a fairly good runner but now it takes 30 mins for a 5k run. I took part in triathlons etc. This year im taking part in another triathlon with a 13 mile run at the end. Im thinking of trying the race walking method for the run section what do you think of the idea. Will it be easy to learn to race walk it seems pretty quick and looks like it may be easier on my knees
Jogging doesn’t really make you look that pretty though… actually you could just look at people who run far for a living and it’s not a pretty sight, at least when you look at men =) imo
WOW!..old skool…including Dave McGovern with a PONYTAIL!..BONUS!
Thank you for the tips! Can’t wait to try race walking in the park. Now all I need are proper shoes. Any recommendations?
Very thankful you had the transcript included in your description (which I didn’t see until after I watched video, wishing the entire time that the soundtrack wasn’t louder than the voice talking!! 😉 Was just about to suggest that the music soundtrack be redone at a lower volume and the instructor’s voice up a notch or two in volume. Might not be a bad idea to do that anyway, but definitely KEEP the transcript.
yea @pdblouin33 I was wondering that too I guess really gentle stretches ok?
womans face, mans haircut, womans boobs, mans body… WHAT IS DAT THING?
Those are NOT good shoes for racewalking. And static stretching before working out? Definitely not what the latest recommendations and research say.
Yes, racewalking isn’t CrossFit, power lifting, competitive weightlifting or P90x. But, let me tell you that it is not as easy as you think. I have tried it, and it is challenging. Also, in competitions, your feet must say in contact with the ground at all times. So I wouldn’t knock it.
good afternoon, sir/ma’am. what a nice video. may i ask po about the title of the song played on the opening of the video?thanks a lot po.
I have been doing Fitness Intervals on my walks, walking as fast as I could for 1/2 laps and then a 1/2 lap of recovery. Once I saw your video, I decided to try with the next step at the belly button rather than the parallel gate. It has been a bit tricky, but I am glad I saw this video and expect to make it a regular part of my routine. thanks for the clarity of the description of the technique.
My new favorite, please subscribe everybody. Looking forward to more 😉
