Running,jogging and walking are all crap for weight loss. Check out the car.o.l bike on YouTube. They have a fat specific program that lasts ten minutes and has been scientifically proven to be nine times more effective than running in reducing body fat.
Not to mention the pounding that runnin on your joints (knees, hips, spine) over time…

Great video. I eat a ketogenic diet to help combat my epilepsy. I also do fasting and intermittent fasting and go hiking while in a fasted state. I feel so much better exercising on ketones than I do carbs.
I think that is a great coverage on cortisol, however, from what I learned, it’s is like this: There is absolute no necessity to maintain steady levels of cortisol in your body, quite the contrary. The ability to react on stressors with an increase followed by a decrease of certain hormones is a sign of a healthy, functioning hormone system.
Only very high levels of stress (trauma) or chronic stress without the following decrease of stress hormones is what is harmful to your body and will on the long term result in inflammation, weight gain, high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.
Running, however, can be seen as a training for your stress system, the sudden increase in cortisol will most certainly be counteracted and result in relaxation and actually LESS stress for your body (“runners high”). This can counteract chronic stress and balance out the stress system.
So I have to disagree with your theory. (Not talking about excessive running here obviously, this can of course lead to burnout/adrenal fatigue).

Walking is preferred if you have years for weight loss. For most people who want to lose weight in a reasonable amount of time you have to run. There’s no easy way to do it, weight loss takes hard work and real commitment bottom line.

I unintentionally lost about 10 lbs from walking everywhere in a new city for about 3 months straight…i was already quite thin so i shouldve upped my meals…but now that i have some lbs to lose will definitely try it again! It just helps if you live in a nice city you enjoy sightseeing through.

What if you walk for 10-20 hours straight without breaks. Will that drop blood glucose and increase cortisol? Not doing power walking as talked in the video, just normal walk for that amount of time.
my current situation won’t let me cook regular food, I just have a microwave and a toaster. i have a mini fridge, no way to cook raw meat, it’s really hard to meal prep and be confident in my calorie counts like that. instead i have to keep track of each individual thing and enter it as i eat it, it’s annoying. i’d love to spend some time to measure out salad and put it in containers for the rest of the week, there’s just no room to do that in this place.

I always have trouble maintaining an exercise streak because the workouts I follow intimidate me and I find that I have to force myself to do it and I dread them. I have Morton’s Neuroma, walking too much will cause my nerve to swell. what other alternatives can I do? or is there an exercise to help build strength on my foot?
Running is good, BUT it has too many prerequisites to fulfill before you can enjoy the benefits e.g. proper running form, soft surface to run on instead of concrete sidewalks, nice pair of running shoes and a physically fit body to begin with.
Most people who “want” to run are either too sedentary in their life for a long time or overweight. Add in the facts that a decent pair of running shoes does not come cheap and proper running form is not something most people can grasp in a short amount of time, you can see why walking is not a bad alternative.
Of course, you can always bike or swim and still get the same benefits as running but your knees will love you.
I think my treadmill is way off… if I run 7.5 mph @ 1% incline for 1 hr it think i burn 300 cals. If I walk 1 hr at 3.7 mph @ 9% incline it think I burn 170 cals. I’m not even that light either.

I did running and Pilates for 2 years, then swapped the running for walking 10-13k steps a day. I still do Pilates. My overall body fat decreased and I gained muscle tone. Literally still baffled by this. I’m an endomorph, so maybe that’s why. ♀️

Whenever I’m intentionally doing more long distance walking my midsection fat level is at its lowest. It’s just about finding the time…walking 5 miles a day takes more time than I usually have, but it’s my preferred way of pushing into the sub 10% BF. I can’t be on a treadmill or stairmaster for more than 5 minutes without going crazy, but I’ll happily walk outside for 2 hours straight. I wish I had 5 hours a day to do it.

Hi Autumn I am new to your channel and I have so many questions but let me explain some things about myself. I am 50 years old I was born with rare form of MD. I am not wheelchair bound so I have some balance issues and obviously muscle issues so it is easier for me to do like in home walk in place videos then going outside, how effective is that compared to outdoors?

Walking changed my life in all honesty I found myself in just putting headphones in and exploring, 20k steps a day at work in a supermarket and one mountain climb a week, fat loss was slow, but it was enjoyable for me.

I’m 38 yrs old. 5’9″ 291lbs. A brisk walk on the treadmill keeps my heart rate at around 135 ish. This, I hope is plenty for me. I can speak normally and not out of breath. Based on my bmr, I can easily lose the weight to begin with because it is really hard to eat that many calories. (2k ish?) I know this from my previous attempt a few years ago to start a live lean lifestyle. I went from 275 lbs down to 225 lbs in a matter of months without even coming close to starving myself. I cut out most all carbs. Felt great. Now I’m starting over…because. reasons.
I would say it’s more time vs. distance. Walking a mile and running a mile have there respective benefits. But, running for 30min vs. walking 30min…. this is just a no-brainer.

It’s interesting. Something to think about. However, I do have to say that running specifically is the #1 thing that lowers my high anxiety levels. So for me personally, this would contradict the cortisol level theory or maybe it’s a fact. I wonder if it’s different for people.

I tried to explain this to my friend and he asked me why runners are so skinny then compared to walkers.
I eat 2000 calories a day, give or take. Doing IF with an 8 hour window eating twice a day. I walk for an hour every morning on an empty stomach, burning 400-500 calories. I’m down 25 pounds in 3 months. I have 25 more pounds to go. I’m slowly incorporating weights into my routine. But you can absolutely lose body fat just by walking. I’m happy with 1-2 pounds per week.

She’s right about the hormones balance thing. walking does lower androgens, but high intensity activities/running too much will cause hormone imbalance because the surrenal glands get overstimulated, and both adrenaline & androgens will get produced. bad thing if your a woman trying to loose weight, esp if you have pcos. thats why women can lose weight doing yoga regularly. women should do regular, long session (at least 1h ) of low impact/low intensity physical exercises.

I lived in Okinawa. They still farm and cut grass the old fashioned way (without machines) and eat fresh fish from the ports. They tend their animals on acreage and there are lots of hills. And, they don’t eat a lot of fast food or processed food.

I have hip troubles that made me stop moving altogether due to pain. Being T2D, and probably fitting into the obese category, I want to do something about it, so I have started walking indoors to walking videos. Now. In my quest to start moving more and LOSE FAT, I have eigh question: What, pray tell, is the difference between losing weight………… and losing FAT? I’m studying global nutrition and health, and you are literally going against what you’ve learnt in your curriculum… listen, cortisol is increased due to stress being applied on the body, that’s normal. That’s any kind of activity and the higher intensity, the higher stress on the body, the more cortisol! Easy right? The next thing is that so many studies says that it’s about your EE and how much kJ you intake. You lose weight if you expend more energy than you consume, it’s seen as a fact. Give me the studies saying otherwise, and I will give bias on the studies in no time! Theoretically running in the right circumstances is more effective in burning more energy than walking, but in practice other factors come into play, and no it’s not your body’s damn hormones (that only contributes to small percentages). The higher the intensity an exercise has the more energy from stored glucose in the liver and muscles is fueling the body, which will increase the need for carbohydrates/glucose in the system! You get hungry . So even though you burn more, you most likely will end up consuming more. Your end result is fine, but the reasonings you got there is just plain nonsense. It’s the same as saying you don’t burn any fat when insulin levels are elevated in the body. Stop spreading wrong information. If you really have these degrees you should know you are wrong.
Good thing with walking is it helps reduce your stress hormones, which If to high can stop you from losing weight too.

At 47 and 275 pounds with not a lot of muscle and lung issues, I was in a bad way! I was on 3 inhalers and going up 3 steps made me winded, I started by walking, and only walking, 5 minutes at a time, and progressed every day. Sometimes I did great sometimes I didn’t, but i kept going. I cut out processed food and added sugar, kept walking my way to losing 60lbs. Started lifting while still walking every day and lost a total of 120lbs! I’m now running obstacle courses and mudruns, still lifting and still walking everyday. Fat people burn more because of the energy required to move more mass…..the problem is many eat MORE than they walked out which is why it easier and less time consuming to just EAT LESS.

Walking is amazing if you are willing to put in the time and be consistent. I lost all of the weight I gained during my both pregnancies (50 and 55 lbs), it didn’t happen overnight but it took a few months with minimal effort. I started walking every morning for about an hour pushing my baby in the stroller, I wasn’t even walking fast, just a normal walk. After a couple of weeks it become like a second nature to go for our walk and if I couldn’t go because it was raining I would miss it. After a few months I lost almost all the baby weight and felt comfortable to go to the gym.

I went from 341lbs to 258lbs in just about 5 months. I did not try to lose weight as fast possible, I just ate healthy and walked 3 to 4 times a week for about 50 minutes per. I did start hiking up a mountain near my house a couple times a week after about two months. Thats all I did. After a couple months I started losing 7lbs per week. That lasted for several weeks. I went from a 6X shirt to a 2X shirt (which was loose) in just 5 months. If I can do it ANYONE CAN!!
This is all soooo true. My mother is from a Blue Zone, Nicoya Costa Rica. Her grandmother pases away at 99, lucid mind, remembered everyone’s birthday, her hearing was perfect. She was a teacher and would walk 4 miles from the top of a mountain to the valley to go to work. Healthy wholesome eating and daily excercise.
Now my mom, at 72, has taking to walking on a treadmill to waken those blue zone genes. But she looks well under 65, anyway. Must be those genes. But my mom always says, people dont walk anymore. You say it not about calories In and calories outyour example is that you loose less weight on starvetion mode because your BMR goes down… your augment makes no sense, if your BMR goes down then your calories out go then and as such validates the calories in and out theory. the question is wether you decrease your “calories in” by more than the decrease in “calories out”. furthermore starvation more has greater impact on NEAT than BMR….

Huh! Having kids had the exact opposite effect on me. I used to go out at whatever time of the day or night and walk, or run, or dance, or all of the above in some combination, a good portion of a day sometimes for weeks or even months at a time. But, walking to the grocery store, holding little hands, slows one down. Doing that while carrying groceries and walking on glare ice is highly dangerous. So, then, it is time to get a ride to the store, or, go to the store less often. And, having to dress children for the weather and deal with their stamina means shorter walks done less often. So, I went from being the sort of person who could walk 40 miles or so to the next town, walk around, get bored and walk home however long that took to being the sort of person who struggled to walk 1 mile to the store. Though, it wasn’t all kids. It was, a lot of it, stress and not being allowed to sleep due to marrying the wrong man.
I would have brief periods of time where i could get back to walking 26 miles to work (because, he wouldn’t or couldn’t take me), putting in a full shift or more and walking halfway or all the way home. Or, things like that. But, most of my adult life, after I had kids, was weight gain and being stuck at or close to home, or, in an office setting, whereas, before I had kids, most of my time was walking, swimming,dancing, running, lifting weights just for fun, chopping wood, hauling water… but, mostly, walking.
So can walking on incline be effective as well to improve fat loss?

Just discovered this during COVID19 lockdown. Tried HITT and jogging. Both hard and post workout soreness so days off exercise. Discovered walking. Began walking every day -10k steps and the weight is dropping off.

Question: What if my shift requires doing several “walk” throughs for my12 hours. On my job, I am required to conduct a check every 30 minutes. However, it ends up being WAY more than that throughout the night. Would this count for the “daily walk / cardio, or would doing more AFTER work be too much? Walking is such a gem. When I started college, I was 5’9 and 270lbs. The campus was in a bike-town yet never got a bike, so I just walked to get around.
After my freshman year, I went down to 230lbs, and grew to 6’1. By summer of next year, I was down to 175lbs.
Now I won’t say walking will make you taller, but it can wipe away many of your dietary sins with very minimal effort. Not to mention it clears your mind and helps with your sleep.

OF COURSE too much running is not good. That will cause a host of issues especially for women with the female athlete triad. But doing so responsibly is incredibly good for building lean muscle and improving cardiovascular health. All my runners, keep doing you.

This is so spot on! Underrated advice. I used to burn myself out trying to run and jog all the time. Hurting my knees etc. I started doing a 15% incline treadmill walk around 2.3 mph for 45 minutes. I can recover so quickly the next day; never sore. Knees feel great and I BURN a lot of calories400-500 in 45 minutes and I can hold my phone the whole time! haha If you try it DO NOT hold onto the top of the treadmill or put your hands on the handles or the incline doesn’t counta pet peeve of mine. Not to mention I have not experience hardly any delayed onset muscle soreness since I began lifting and walking. Even if I feel a little sore, e.g., calf muscles a little walk will take out the soreness. Go Bulls.

Great video Paul! I have been trying to run at 250 and really struggling with the pain in my lower legs. This video and my own thought about this made me decide to just walk until I am at a more manageable weight.
This is why I like doing landscaping. Outside all day using my body to work. I’m still fat lmao but it helps. Been incorporating more walking after work when I can. I think I can get from 225 to 170 by the end of this year, hopefully anyway. It is my goal.

Walking worked for me. Its all i did as far as exercise. I am a male 5’8 and i was 282lbs. I suffered with high blood pressure, diabetes depression. I negan to walk little by little starting with about 20-40 minutes up to an hour and it was not easy being so out of shape but i didnt give up. I also started eating only clean food. Walked my way down to 169lbs in a little over a year because there are several times i plateaud for a week or more bit still didnt give up. I walked a little longer and dropped my carbs to between 20-50 max per day and the weight just started falling off. Went from avput a 52 waist to a 32 and 3x shirts to mediums and felt like a new person.
No longer taking any medications, no stretch marks amd my docror was amazed and asked what i did and she couldnt believe i did it all by myself. Self driven and self motivated. If ot was early, late, hot,cold, rain or shine i put on my misic and hit the pavement and one day i just jad a little extra time so i walked a little over 23 miles and just stopped because i figured that was good enough but xould jave easily kept going. Im going to starr back up monday but from now on will be wearing a 40lb weight vest. And calisthenics. Good luck everyone. Lets do this!!

I haven’t exercised since 14. Always been skinny. Now I’m 39 with 3 kids and slim. But fat slim. So I started walking 40 minutes 4-5 days a week at a rate of 7.5km and I do 5 Km.
Burn around 355 calories in 40 minutes and I feel fantastic and my clothes are already getting looser ( I have been speed walking for 2 and half a weeks after a 25 year break mind).
