Food manufacturers often use saccharin because it’s fairly stable and has a long shelf life. It’s safe to consume even after years of storage. In addition to carbonated diet drinks, saccharin is.
Drug Basics & Safety. Commonly Abused Drugs; his spill set the stage for the development of saccharin an artificial sweetener known today to many seasoned dieters as Sweet-n-Low.Saccharin is the artificial sweetener that gives Sweet ‘N Low its sweet taste. It contains no calories because it is not digested by the body. Saccharin has been around for over 100 years and has.
Saccharin has been the subject of extensive scientific research and is one of the most studied food ingredients in the food supply. In fact, saccharin’s safety is supported by 30 human studies, a century of safe use, the approval of the World Health Organization and 100 countries around the world as well as leading health groups.Saccharin Saccharin is approved for use in food as a non-nutritive sweetener. Saccharin brand names include Sweet and Low®, Sweet Twin®, Sweet’N Low®, and Necta Sweet®.
It is 200 to 700 times.Saccharin commonly known as Sweet N’ Low is an artificial sweetener that’s long drawn controversy. The Canadian government banned it in in 1977 over a possible link to bladder cancer in rats. The FDA tried to do the same and was met with a public outcry. They put a moratorium on the ban until further research could be done.
Sweet and Low (saccharin): Sweet and Low is one of the first available artificial sweeteners and used in foods, medicine, and even in toothpaste. Saccharin is around 300 to 400 times sweeter than.Congress Passes Bill to Remove Saccharin Warning Label from Sweet’N Low (12/21/2000) “We are extremely gratified that Congress has passed legislation to remove the saccharin warning label on Sweet’N Low.This announcement supports what we have known all along: saccharin is safe for human consumption,” said Marvin Eisenstadt, president of Cumberland Packing Corp., manufacturer of.According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), sucralose is safe for everyone to consume, including pregnant women.
Artificial Sweeteners that are NOT safe to use during pregnancy Saccharin: (Sweet ‘N Low) Although it is not used as much today as in the past, it still appears in many foods, beverages, and other substances. In fact, he is quoted as saying, “ [Saccharin is] a coal tar product totally devoid of food value and extremely injurious to health.” 2. And the USDA and FDA have flip-flopped virtually ever since. In 1911, they stated that foods with saccharin were “adulterated,” then in 1912, said that saccharin wasn’t harmful.
Yes, saccharin is safe to consume. It’s one of eight low and no-calorie sweeteners permitted by the FDA for use in the US food supply. All eight have been rigorously tested and reviewed. In its 130-year history saccharin has been a laboratory accident, a wonder drug, a dangerous carcinogen, and a consumer cause célèbre. The story of saccharin’s rise, its long reign as king of the artificial sweeteners, and its eventual decline illustrates a central tension within the American consumer’s psyche.
Saccharin and aspartame are two artificial sweeteners that are both deemed safe for consumption. So for a 150-pound person, 340 milligrams of saccharin a day would be in the safe range. One packet of Sweet n’ Low contains 36 milligrams of saccharin. Aspartame Aspartame (also known as Equal) is one of the most popular artificial sweeteners, adding sweetness to diet sodas, desserts, cereals, and many other foods and beverages.Saccharin, was first discovered and used in 1879, before the current food additive approval process came into effect in 1958.
Brand names include Sweet‘N Low Aspartame, first approved for use in.

I wouldn’t recommend either, but if you really want a soda or something, it’s better to drink the artificial sweetener one
I appreciate when you and Jeff do these analytical breakdown videos. I wish there was more content like this available on youtube. Not everything you guys do is relevant to me, but the ones that are have been fantastic resources for information.
I didn’t know that looking for a sweetener is that complicated.
Until they tell me that not cutting down on BOTH sugar and sweeteners causes a face-hugger to burst through my chest in 15 minutes, i think i’ll just take the hit in the health department.
It would be interesting to separate out these studies into government funded and private research to see if differences exist. Given the debacle of the “climate change” pseudo-science I suspect that we might find different results given different political agendas.
It just takes self control. Artificial sweeteners may cause sweetness addiction but it takes self control. I am a 14 year old who has been having a very very low amount of added sugar since New Years. I use fake sugars like aspartame and sucralose and stevia. I have learned self control. Those packets that are red, blue, or yellow still contain one net carb because they contain dextrose (an anticaking agent) that does cause a minor spike in insulin. They still are better though than sugar because we need way less due to the fact of them being sweeter than sucrose (table sugar).
Anyone else notice the camera bumping around a bit in this one?
Ad hominem attack in the comments section on Laci Green:-* come on she doesn’t own Discovery News.
If it’s not natural it’s probably bad for you. My general rule. There are better options like beet sugar, agave syrup, and stevia.
Oh my goodness! an incredible video dude. Thank you However Im experiencing situation with ur rss. Don’t know why Unable to subscribe to it. Is there anybody getting identical rss problem? Anybody who knows kindly respond. Thnkx
WONDERFUL Post.thanks for share..extra wait..
I love how all the corporations that make different food products Always by people off with bogus research to say their products are not harmful yet when you take sucralose too much she get headaches every single time if they want to try to convince us that their product is not giving us headaches. I’m pretty good with algebra when x equals y you need to get rid of x. Everything we consume is a chemical compound of some sort whether natural or synthetic. And synthetic compounds do not have a zero effect on the system they affect it somehow and someway. First I would recommend people get rid of sugar as much as possible from their diets. Secondly they should attempt to live off a little artificial sweeteners as much as possible. Maybe they don’t give them diabetes but they might just screw up their brain matter or liver.
Good or bad, they don’t label foods ‘chemically sweetened’ they call them ‘no added sugar’ so what are they trying to hide?
My concern isn’t necessarily with just artificial sweeteners but with processed foods in general. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that the body doesn’t know how to digest man-made chemicals found in a lot of processed foods, so it stores those chemicals in your fat cells, thus increasing the size of your fat cells, leading to weight gain. Do you have any knowledge on this?
artificial sweeteners are very safe for consumption, in that they will not harm you in any substantial way. what I’ve found to be more important is determining how your insulin response functions toward artificial sweeteners. if you don’t have a particularly strong response to artificial sweeteners, then feel free to consume as you like. It probably won’t cause you any problems and it may help you control your weight if you maintain an otherwise healthy diet. I have a particularly strong response to artificial sweeteners and can taste artificial sweeteners, non-caloric sweeteners, and sugar alcohols. Artificial sweeteners will also give me headaches, even when I an not initially aware of my consumption of artificial sweeteners. I can get away with consuming them if it is done following the consumption of a relatively large amount of carbohydrates.
I am a faithful user of stevia & know it has a bitter aftertaste esp when used in XS but im used 2 it by now & so does erythritol, which I find 2b worse. However bc stevia doesnt really xlate well in baking, I recently got Swerve 4 the 1st time & it was INFINITELY better but I had to cut serving size bc of that nasty erythritol taste. However I just now purchased a couple of others-ZenSweet and Lokanto Monkfruit Sweeteners. The latter I’m already familiar with bc of their maple syrup (which I also use in my baking). IMO out of all three, ZenSweet tastes the best with Lokanto coming in very close second and Swerve last. I left this LONG comment cuz I thought this clip was referring to brands instead of general types of sweeteners, so if u thought so too, perhaps this’ll help.
It’s deeper than calories. It’s aspartame turning into formaldehyde in your body.
she is only saying that regular amount of sugar is fine and artificial sweetner may not be necessary. what’s wrong?
Fantastic work! Thanks for sorting through all the data and presenting it in such an easy to understand form.
Maybe I should switch to diet soda, not because I need to lose weight, I’m actually underweight, but I know too much sugar carries many more more risks than just weight gain.
Go ahead eat and drink? Here is the link for people who would like to read them self:

Thank you for making this. Alot of my family and friends (including myself) are always hearing horror stories of sweeteners from the internet. It’s a relief to hear from a doctor citing peer reviewed studies on the reality of these rumours. I’ve really appreciated these videos and thank you for making them.
Ok, so artificial sweeteners aren’t the best, but are they still better than sugar overall? e.g. If someone craves sweet things all the time and going cold turkey isn’t realistic, are they better of switching to artificial sweeteners? Have there been any studies comparing sugar use to artificial sweetener use?
Bears also natural. But it kill people faster than uranium. Almost forgot uranium also natural.
I like your “just got outa bed after getting laid last night” look 😉
So basically, the verdict on artificial sweeteners is still out, but the verdict on sugar is out and damning. So there is no reason not to switch to artificial sugars from sugar if you are going to consume one or the other anyway
I’m pretty sure the sugar substitute in Diet Coke gives me insomnia. And, no, it’s not the caffeine. I’m super sensitive to caffeine, so I know my limits in that regard. Diet Coke affects my sleep worse than a normal Coke drunk at the same time of day. But it’s hard to find literature or articles on this, so I wonder…. Anyone know anything about this?
I’ve shared this video with so many friends over the past few years. Every time someone posts one of those fear-mongering “Aspartame is poison” articles, I politely stick this in their FB comments as a counterpoint:-). Thanks for helping me correct misinformation!
You obviously are in the pocket of these companies. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, if I have any artificial sweeteners, I wind up hospitalized. I have a reaction with a migraine, stars, will my left side goes completely paralyzed, I don’t even know who I am anymore and I cannot see, vomiting violently. This only happens when I have an artificial sweeteners. I know many people that get migraines from them. This whole studies show it’s inconclusive is absolute BS. May your money lined pocket Karma find you on your judgment day. So mote it be.
Diet Food tastes like crap but people eat to prove they are good people Thanks Mr Atkins and others for crap all over the store.
I am having sugar free solution for 3 years and have lost 38 kgs, it helps a lot….
MAKE SURE STEVIA DOESNT CONTAIN MALTODEXTRIN!! the maltodextrin will spike your insulin
Bullshit!! Eat aspartame in gum and you’ll feel sick or have a headache!!!!!!!!!!!
can’t you just stop using sweetener and limit your sugar intake? grow some self control, geez…
HI. So I just wanted to thank. I watched this video first when it got released 2 years ago and actually saved it. Now I got an assignment from my English teacher to write a discursive essay. I chose this topic. This video is very helpful to me because it covers all the bases and the major arguments regarding this topic. So thank you once again for putting in the hard work and effort in reseaching this topic. It served me well.
brain does make you release insulin, like what in the cephalic phase of digestion.
could anyone direct me to if formaldehyde is created from when artificial sugar Acesulfame-K is left for a few days. I have noticed that it smells very strong of some type of paint thinners like acetone of some sort. I read that in Gulf war the Coke turned to formaldehyde under the tarps in the hot sun. So I am guessing similar mightt be occurring.I find this occurs in any juice concentrate that has Acesulfame-Kin it. Like Ribeana etc
I’d love to hear if there is any studies about makeup being harmful?
Erythritol spikes my blood sugar, and I’m not alone. It also causes horrible stomach pains and gas in lots of people.
So far, stevia is the only sweetener that doesn’t affect my blood sugar but only if I use really sparingly. I realize my experience is not the norm but blanket statements like “Erythritol does not spike blood sugar” are misleading. Checking with a glucometer is the best way to find what’s ok for you.
Im on day 12 KETO I love sugar in my coffee and teas. So I’m trying STEVIA and MonkFruit and I’m loving it. Although I noticed I need more of the MonkFruit to taste it.
What about sucralose? There’s a hypothesis that Sucralose alters indigenous bacterial balance in the GIT.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3856475/#R3
I use a 1/16 a cup of sweet and low a day in my Tea to use sugar it would take a cup.
So glad I found your channel, I’ve been using xylitol for a few years, I shall now change to Stevia. Thank you!
Something I read in a medical report, once, that it might not be the artificial sweetener used in the drinks that are causing the diabetes, but, the fact that some people, not all, think that because they are consuming diet drinks, that it gives them a go-ahead to consume more treats with sugars in them; donuts, twinkies, cakes, pies, etc. I’m sure someone will correct me on this. And, no, I only consume two, maybe three, packs of pink stuff a day, in coffee or tea, and detest desserts.
If you understand that health is closely related to evolution, you should understand that putting things in your body that don’t naturally occur in nature is not a good idea.
For hundreds of thousands of years, humans only ate meats, vegetables, fruits and the like. Then about 10,000 years ago we started farming and eating grains and breads.
Then in the last century, humans started synthesizing foods that don’t occur in nature.
These foods include trans fats, vegetable oils, and yes, artificial sweeteners.
What do you thing the human body is going to do with a substance ingested that it does not recognize?
I contend that cancer is probably caused by ingesting substances that don’t occur in nature, and artificial sweeteners are non natural chemicals.
Now I doubt small amounts of non natural foods probably won’t hurt, but if you are anything like my brother, who is addicted to diet coke, you might get cancer, you might not, but eating synthetic foods is not compatible with evolution.
I don’t think it is good for your health.
Let’s get this straight…artificial sweeteners are not food.
They are man-made chemicals.
Humans are not designed to eat man-made chemicals. This is a fact.
I have always craved sweet stuff so i try to reduce sugar intake as much as possible and i do replace it with various artificial sweeteners. I am aware of the possibility that the brain gets weird signals from not getting sugar energy with the sweeteners so i often try to consume sweeteners with something that provides energy. That way there is some energy boost to go along with the sweetness.
Suggestion: Adopt a mentality of only consume drinks free from added sweetener (table sugar, cane sugar, high fructose corn syrup, stevia, artificial sugar replacement, etc); eat vegetable first before protein and carbs (example: a piece of chicken must be accompanied by a piece of vegetable before they are put in the mouth for eating); and avoid all foods that are meant to be sweet from the outset (sweets, chocolates, cakes, donuts, etc).
Have personally lost three inches of waistline over a period of a month and three weeks, and continue to lose weight as of Feb 9, 2020.
Artificial sweeteners continue to get a bad reputation with the general public because of misinformation being presented and interpreted incorrectly through medical studies. As the video states bladder cancer increased in rats, this is a fact the general public understands. What the general public then fails to read is the fact that increased bladder cancer in rats has not been linked to an increase in cancer in humans. This has led people to believe that drinking or consuming items which have been sweetened with artificial sweetener will put them at a greater risk for bladder cancer. I recently took a semester long nutrition class where we discussed this exact topic and found evidence that supports this video as well. Artificial sweeteners are not harmful to your health. I believe also that another aspect of people believing that artificial sweeteners are harmful is that people believe by using them they will lose weight which is not the case. Weight loss is both a combination of actively making healthy choices everyday and participating in physical activity. I believe that this video did a great job on pointing out the separation of health effects and weight loss. If the general public would look more into information they hear I believe this issue could be resolved of thinking artificial sweeteners are harmful.
One day, we’re all going to die somehow and somewhere so for now, let’s enjoy life for goodness sake!
Great vid again! Is there a reason you won’t give your kids “caffeine-sodas”? Hyperactivity maybe? In another video “Coffee! It’s Not Bad for You, and It might Even be Good!” you say caffeine is not bad (I don’t remember if for kids)
Artificial sweeteners cause memory loss. You didn’t address this on your video.
By the way most Lab Rats only live about 2 years 1 and 1/2 years is quite a long time in fact many times Lab Rats will only be used for about a year. In the wild they only live a year. Many are produced to feed reptiles for the pet community. Many more are ill treated as pets and probably don’t live a full year. Though there are a good number that are growing that are getting very good care and some living as long as four and five years. Though it’s very hard and very unusual to get that age!
They can help you you lose weight just don’t binge afterwards enjoy your sweet treat or meal and be happy your on a better path
The problem with sweeteners isn’t that they cause cancer, it’s that they’re neurotoxic, right?
For anyone wondering how many sweeteners to consume in a day the average number of artificial sweetener packets a person should have per day is 1-23. I was curious about this and found the answer on http://www.ajc.com. So for drinks if you use 4 packets per drink that’s close to 6 drinks. But also keep in mind that Kool aids or Crystal Light flavored pitcher drinks, diet cola, and bottled drinks are flavored with artificial sweeteners that is probably close to the average amount of 23 packets. For me I think keeping it close to 8 packets a day is a better bet for health. Less is better

Are there any RCTs on aspertaine and ibs or nausea? I’ve always gotten a very upset tummy from diet soda and so do my kids and my mother.
Looks like you are taking way too much sugar yourself you’re too hype up…( but fine looking mamacita)
Allulose sucks. Hard on the stomach too. Nasty stuff for me anyway.
Also I made straw ice cream last Mon & again on Wednesday. l then made the pnut butter swerve cookies on that same week on Saturday. Ate a few bc u know, they are small. But then Sat night my head started spinning when my head hit the pillow. This was the same feeling I had 10 yrs ago from consuming foods & diet items made w aspertame.
Somethings I am curious about while watching this video were the test groups between the monkeys and rats! Are monkeys and rats digestive and immune system on par of that with a human being and could testing these on humans lead to no advancements on artificial sweeteners? Also I am curios about the vast majority of different and highly complex artificial sweeteners that were not talked about in this video? Lastly, Is cancer the only thing that can be obtained through artificial sweeteners or can they also lead to increase blood pressure and volume? Yet, overall the facts brought up were interesting and could be perceived as an answer to the many problems that could be brought on by artificial sweeteners. Never the less Cancer is one of the largest and most erratic problems we face in today’s health care world. So starting off from here may lead a serious of events to gather new information.
Diet cola wrecks your brain, It feels like your brain is put on a blender and your trippin on acid, causes anxiety, irritablity, mood swings etc, Dont drink diet soda you will go through withdrawls
Simply amazing, well researched! Everything I needed to know.
Currently prepping for a competition and have prepped multiple times indulging in artificial sweeteners when I have a craving (for me means that women thing that happens once a month lol) and I never gained weight, I was always in a caloric deficit obviously when prepping and I neither retained water nor gained weight with artificial. Everything in moderation and a balanced diet is the key to success people! Great job steph! I really liked this video… don’t believe everything you hear on the news people! Do your scientific research I.e. peer based review and scientific journal sources
I really enjoyed this video. As i made my coffee this morning and put 2 packets of artificial sweeteners in it i did not even think twice. We’ve always heard our friends or family shoot down artificial sweetener or even diet pop saying ” if you drink that you’re gonna get cancer.” But, in fact the research proves that there is no link between cancer and artificial sweeteners. Another thing I enjoyed about this video is how he disclaims any use of research on rats. I feel the same way rats are always getting cancer no matter what they are given. His point on how rats can get cancer even when given vitamin C. Why isn’t that published if they see cancer in rats with vitamin C and we take vitamin C? Until there is concrete research showing a correlation between artificial sweeteners and cancer their should not be skepticism, people are usually to quickly to believe someone rather than finding out for them self.
I made pnut butter cookies w monkfruit last week. I did not like them bc it gave me that cooling aftertaste. Then I made a batch w Swerve confectioners sugar which were yummy. But I found using different recipes w other sweeteners works out just fine.
We should use life long criminals, mass murders and homicidal maniacs as test subjects…make use of them…coz they have no use in society…or we could use them as fuel instead of coal…
I find artificial sweeteners highly disgusting. I can’t stand them.
Allulose!
Been Keto for 3 years now.
Allulose is virtually indistinguishable from sugar in almost every way.
I am not sure if you are aware of this but one of the commercials put before this video was talking about the “unnatural chemicals” being put into food (like artificial sweeteners) during food processing. They then talked about how their “natural” products are better. This is different message than the one you talked about in this video. Little wonder there is confusion about what to believe in Nutritional Science. I feel the advertiser debased what you were trying to say by framing its ideas in the minds of the viewers first before your video played.
Do you have any current data on pure monk sweetener? It is in powder form. I don’t think it comes on liquid. I have had very good results making whipped cream with it.
Aspartame manufacturer Searle manufactured their testing data when filing with the FDA. It was so bad the US Attorney started an investigation of Searle. Six months into the investigation the same US attorney was hired by Searle.
Searle then hired a congressman and hired former secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld to be its CEO. The statute of limitations expired on the investigation and, despite increasing support by independent studies that aspartame was a poison, the Reagan administration approved use of aspartame in dry foods.
Methanol is poisonous. The foods that contain methanol also contain ethanol which counteracts the harmful properties.
Phenylalanine accumulates in the brain and leads to depressed levels of seratonin.
Etc etc etc.
Basically every “scientific” organization that has written in support of the safety of artificial sweeteners is funded by Monsanto.
Videos like yours With your cheery smile are dangerous.
No. It is not dangerous. It does not affect your blood sugar/insulin and has no nutritional value but is fine.
aspartame is fine, no worse than the others, and if it helps maintain your diet then it is the least of all evils. You face far greater danger from charring your meat where acrylamide is know carcinogenic. I would never touch Stevia it is said to destroy the gut biome by one professor who ripped it apart in a lecture I saw.
Were the people in the studies still eating dairy and fatty animal flesh? Hmmm weird to think why they were getting diabetes
If studies on rats do not necessarily translate to the same thing in human physiology, why do we still keep using animals for testing? That’s just inhumane, right?
Can i use brown sugr on keto plzz do me reply…plzz as soon as posbl..em on keto from 11 days
Diet soda is still not healthy. Carbonic acid will ruin your teeth, and again, there are some perhaps legitimate concerns about insulin response.
I will direct you to Dr. Robert Lustig, who is an actual endocrinologist rather than a GP like our hose, and suggest that you watch some of his lectures on YouTube or check out Fed Up on Netflix or online.
That dietician sounds like a sugar industry apologist towards the end… Jus’ sayin’
Are artificial sweeteners harmful? No. They don’t cause cancer, or any other issues. That being said, they’re not healthy, but neither is consuming large amounts of sugar. It’s absolutely astonishing how stories without evidence to back it up, spreads like wildfire due to the media and social outlets. Humans are not rats, and we will not react the same way they do when being tested for something. It’s one of the major flaws of how our research is conducted, but it’s completely unethical to test on humans in the early stages of any research. Anyways, just because a rat that’s predisposed to bladder cancer just happens to get it after consuming aspartame, or any artificial sweetener, does not mean it was the cause of the cancer. And it certainly does not mean humans will develop cancer from consuming the same artificial sweeteners. If you want to be healthy, focus on the right things to eat, and then you shouldn’t be worried about artificial sweeteners anyway.

why does this chick look like she just made the “walk of shame” like an hour before this video was shot?
Laci u r really really very sweet. I would be more happy if u slow down a liiiiittle bit. May be 10% slower would help me significantly.
That was good. But people report other issues with AS like insomnia, arthritis, etc.
Very informative and easy to understand,
Awesome job keep up the good work.

You might find this really interesting also, even though it doesn’t explain the overall impact of Ace-K on people life.
Ok i have some questions. Did those rats eats a normal diet with occasional sweeteners or just a massive diet of sweeteners? Which isn’t that realistic
As humans we have more “free will” than rats. We can control our behavior. So if I occasionally drink soda, is it better to drink one with sugar or sweeteners? It’s not like if I crave soda and buy a can of diet soda, but then drink 6 of them because I can’t stop. So if I drink one regular soda i will be satisfied and not drink more? Empirically I don’t behave like that. I don’t drink more soda if it’s diet, I drink the same amount of it were regular. So pound for pound, sweeteners still seem better.
you would rather eat something made from coal tare or petroleum oil (chemicals) and say it is better for you. Before chemicals were used to eat, inject, rub all over our bodies, and wear on our skin what did Huemans do before that. Do you know can you give some research on that. Tell me what Huemans ate, rub all over their bodies, and wore on their body? The origin of something is a good indication of what you get from it. These chemical sugar replacements are terrible for your health and our environment!!
We just happen to have the first sugar or the first thing that was really sweet that was made for Hueman naturally and talked about in the BIBLE /THE WORD many times!!! we call it Organic honey they called it honey becase they would of thought your were crazy if you processed honey!! I agree with the Huemans from back in the day when honey was honey. EVERYTIME YOU HERE SUGAR REPLACEMENT THEY REALLY MEAN HONEY REPLACEMENT!! The replacers need to be replaced and not the honey. DON’T REPLACE THE HONEY GO AND BUY OUR ORGANIC HONEY THAT YOU CAN CARRY WITH YOU WHERE EVER YOU GO AND FIND OUT WHY POOH BEAR HAD TO HAVE HIS HONEY!!
I will tell you a few things the original sugar or sweetener will help you lose weight, regulate your insulin, maintain blood sugar levels for Huemans and since your are doing are health channel I want you to tell me what health issue do we have today that causes one sugar to be out of wack or makes people gain weight or deregulates one insulin!! Do a special interview with our companies representative to get more facts that you can do your own research on just by doing things your self.
order you mobile organic honey at buygoodness.biz
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP REAL HEALTHY SUGAR OR SWEETENER THEN HELP SAVE ORGANIC BEES!!

Lets do our study buy my organic honey and processed honey and chemical re placer and have you and your family eat the same amount straight for 2 weeks or a month and you all can give the results by telling us how you feel and getting a checkup to tell us how the body is feeling. Take each product for 2 weeks straight then take other for same time period after waiting 4 days before starting a different product.
I have bought Stevia and made sweets from it and it tastes really bitter what to do?
Eating any amount of sugar makes you fat. Eating any amount of articifial chemicals nobody needs makes you…. unknown.
I love splenda natural!
The best in my opinion.
2 tablespoons acv
2 tablespoons lemon juice
30 oz water
1 packet spenda natural
YUMMY
Collective waistline. Americans need to eat less and excercise more.
Artificially sweetened chewing gum and/or soft drinks containing aspartame tend to make one fart a lot.
Streaming “Sweetener” by Ariana Grande will not give you diabetes
Thank you for the video!
I LOVE your academic content, I find it very inspiring.
I would really like to see more scientific content in your instagram:)
Great video. I always thought aspartame caused you to gain weight by stoping your fat burning hormones. Gonna have to look more into this now.
I thought diet sodas were actually worse because they have MORE sugar than traditional sodas….
Why was the Dr. on the left even there, and why are processed sugar substitutes worse? Why are they universally seen as negative?
Why do they put it in foods and drinks if it might not be safe
Happy 2018! Hope you enjoy this video! I spent a long time preparing it so I would really appreciate it if you let me know if you like this type of long form content from me Or if you’d rather short “to the point” videos. Much love xoxo ❤️
American diets aren’t even overloaded with sugar… Its worse than that. Its high fructose corn syrup. The body doesn’t even recognize it as a sugar. So hello type 2 diabetes.
I can assume you are A a synthetic robot or An Angel. And if your not human what are you.
I’m confused, so, is sweetened protein powder also bad for you? I eat a LOT of it.
Its adequate to say sweeteners are chemical materials, if you are consuming then there should be consequences and unknown interactions inside your body!
:30 It’s not the sugar that makes you fat, it’s the fat that makes you fat.
Oh, artificial sweetener are bad! Go get your high fructose corn syrup!
So I’ll put this out there… about a year ago I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 26. Shocking right? Turns out my diet was massively to blame, lots of sugary drinks at work (I work in food so they were free) caused a huge issue. Besides that, I had a huge carb intake in my normal diet as well which compounded the issue. I only noticed it when I started losing my vision after taking some steroids to help me get better from a cold that wouldn’t go away. Long story short, I monitored my diet, ate less carbs overall and found a semi balance with the things I eat. It’s still a work in progress, but I’ll note this here, a change in my drinking habits definitely helped along with my diet changes. I almost instantly changed from sugary drinks to artificial sweeteners and while it was a very slow going process, I lost weight and controlled my diabetes because of the lost weight. Currently I’m not on medication and I haven’t had any spike in my blood sugar levels, even when I gorge myself on occasion. You can turn yourself around. Just takes some creativity and knowing what you are eating. Talk to a nutritionist, it can change your life.
I left a “like” because I think this video is very well researched and informative.
My personal view of artificial sweeteners is that their sole purpose is to make something taste good that wouldn’t have otherwise. If I wouldn’t have eaten something in the first place, I’m not going to eat it just because it was artificially sweetened.
Apparently aspartame in artificial sweeteners interferes with insulin & leptin production which is responsible for body fat metabolism in the body.
I’ve been trying to find out why I can’t seem to get under 120 kilograms of body weight, despite weighing 140 kilograms before & losing 20 kilograms by replacing sugar based foods & beverages with aspartame based products, I’m trying to get down to my ideal weight of 90 kilograms.
I believe that aspartame based sweeteners have been causing that so I’m looking to buy a sucralose based sweetener next time such as this one for example: https://www.splenda.com.au/products/sachets?gclid=CjwKCAiAoNTUBRBUEiwAWje2lk0W4BLz6Ta19LUPve_Bm9A5x4XmPjDr9OCOjRtrKPS8lwEdrdy9JhoCdxAQAvD_BwE#open-menu
Good discussion, but your background music, while not overly loud, is completely unnecessary.
It’s really nice to see someone who’s so influential, covering this topic in a rational, science based approach.
Why is there so much negative press about artificial sweeteners when they haven’t been proven harmful? Well, imagine you grew and sold a shit-tonne of corn and/or sugar beet, and you realised that an increase in demand for diet-sodas with no sugar would reduce the price of your produce. So you come up with slander and misinformation about the “supposed benefits” or “potentially cancer causing” artificial sweeteners to try and reduce demand for them, and keep demand for your high-fructose corn syrup nice and high. I could be wrong, but…. what do you think?
could anyone direct me to if formaldehyde is created from when artificial sugar Acesulfame-K is left for a few days. I have noticed that it smells very strong of some type of paint thinners like acetone of some sort. I read that in Gulf war the Coke turned to formaldehyde under the tarps in the hot sun. So I am guessing similar mightt be occurring.

I noticed since i took artificial sweetners for 2 years my waist got wider no matter how much weight i lost. And as soon as i stopped, after several months my waist looked smaller, and yet i was the same or 5-10 lbs heavier. I kinda want to keep doing that experiment for myself, but at the same time, i missed my waist to hip ratio. It’s been a year since. Still same weight and bmi of 25.
The gain wait because they order fried chicken and putter sticks with Diet Coke.
I love how people go by the word of the study, yea i rather go with my bodies sense of whats good and bad for it. If you want to live longer and healthier then avoid artificial food and stop over feeding your selves.
Just found your channel..love the content! Thanks for all the time and research you put in to help us
You really shouldn’t be spreading nonsense like this about artificial sweeteners. The evidence just isn’t there. Worse, media outlets like DNews create the impression that normal sugar and artificial sweeteners are similarly damaging to your health. They just aren’t. Not by a long shot. This is bad science and irresponsible journalism: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/28/upshot/the-evidence-supports-artificial-sweeteners-over-sugar.html. http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/artificial-sweeteners/art-20046936.
Sooo, I generally avoid sweeteners and try to keep an eye on my sugar intake in all it’s different label forms… is Stevia OK? I’ve used it in both the crytalised processed form and as my own grown form (trying to ignore the slightly bitter after taste of the fresh leaves, and doing my best to about not using too much bc the leaves do pack a very sweet punch!)
Fat people get diabetes. Fat people eat sweeteners to feel better. DUh… Nothin in common.
hey you “humpty-Dumpty”.your geek smile ruin my day. Also you need comb & drink lots of green tea.
you should remake this video with updated information. “CSPI Downgrades Sucralose from “Caution” to “Avoid”” The link is below,
https://cspinet.org/new/201602081.html
Instead of ARTIFICIAL sweeteners, JUST USE LESS SUGAR! It can be done, if the change is gradual enough. Over a 6 month span we went from 2 cups per gallon of sweet tea to 1/2. For convenience, I eyeball an 1/8 cup instead of measuring. 1 7/8, 1 3/4, 1 5/8, 1 1/2 all the way to 1/2.
“but I LIKE sweet tea!”: I’m not suggesting you drink anything you don’t like. By dropping it only by an 1/8 cup every 2 weeks the change will be so gradual that you wil barely notice.
“What about restaurants?”: Order 50/50 blend of sweet & unsweet.
BONUS: WE ARE NOT HEALTH NUTS! The ONLY reason we cut the sugar, is because sweet drinks makes your mouth all gummy in the summer, thus making the reduced blend more refreshing. We did it slowly because we LIKED sweet tea as well, and didn’t want to drink nasty tea.
“I don’t like tea”: Although not tried, I’m guessing this technique would work with kool-aid as well.
“I’m diabetic.”: At a 1/2 cup to 1 gallon ratio this LOW sugar blend should be more tolerant. I am not sure how to do the weaning process. I guess you would need to slowly cut back on sweetener overtime until you are ready to switch to the 1/2 cup blend.
I have nothing against you, but if anyone wants links to videos providing research and actual citations with respect to artificial sweeteners, rather than just being told about them—please see the following:
http://nutritionfacts.org/video/aspartame-and-the-brain/
http://nutritionfacts.org/video/aspartame-induced-fibromyalgia/
http://nutritionfacts.org/video/effect-of-sucralose-splenda-on-the-microbiome/
Only analyzing one route of adverse effects (e.g. cancer) is either disingenuous or ignorantly erroneous when considering the complexity of human physiology, especially when one looks at epigenetics and the influence on gut flora (especially considering aspartame is converted into formaldehyde during metabolism).
i hate this fucking bitch. I’m unsubscribing from this channel
Whatever your saying is alredi on Wikipedia, so there’s no difference, right babe?
Why worry about drinking cancer when you follow cancer? #Feminism
isn’t see that dumb bitch who was crying when trump was elected for president shame on you!!
I wish I would have seen this video before purchasing a huge bag of coconut sugar since it states it’s low on carbs…
i am still crushing on her. i hope she stops doing feminism sjw vids.
almost subscribed until I clicked on this video. bye laci green.
The graph you mentioned used sucralose from the brand Splenda, which has maltodextrin. Sucralose actually has a 0 GI.
A good question would also be: Are there any artificial sweeteners that DON’T TASTE FREAKING WEIRD? I’d be more willing to try diet stuff occasionally if it didn’t have gross chemical aftertaste. It’s like the uncanny valley of the sense of taste. (Something nice and normal but when you come closer OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT?!) Eww.
Need an update for Stevia! It’s really a plant that grows similar to mint, which I grew in my backyard (Colorado annual). The leaves are super sweet. The leaves dried and ground to a powder work great for my coffee (I add it with the coffee in the filter). And the dried leaves are green like the brand color.
I’m just wondering if Sucralose is processed the same in my body as sugar. Theses drinks have it but no sugar and am wondering if I should still drink it
I don’t know where to find Monkfruit here so I use Equal Naturals Stevia, doesn’t have bitter aftertaste so I’m fine with it for now. I used to consume 1/2kg of sugar a week for my coffee!
Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that can cause diarrhea and other stomach problems. They must be paying people to push it because that part is never mentioned. Interesting that this is stated for other sugar alcohols but norpt erythritol. All over youtube people are pushing it.
Hi, Dr. Aaron CarrollI would love it if you did a video sometime on food intolerance. For me personally, I have a food intolerance towards every no-calorie sweetener I have tried. I get headaches from them, which eventually turns into a migraine if I don’t take any pain killers (after about 4-12 hours or so depending on dosage).
My backstory on this: I never had the problem until I was about 27 or so, and it was intermittent headaches at first for a couple years (meaning I didn’t always have a reaction when I ingested no calorie sweeteners), and I didn’t know exactly what was causing them. Eventually it became every time I had diet soda, or anything with sacharine, aspartame, stevia or sucralose. Like, 100% of the time, even tho it wasn’t like that at first. I could typically feel a sort of “tightening”within about two minutes of ingesting even about a cup worth of diet sodain my temples. I’ve ruled out entirely some sort of psychosomatic or placebo reaction, it happens whether I know there’s artificial sweetener in the food or noton countless occasions after I’ve gotten a headache then looked up the ingredients of something to find that it had sucralose in it (I also don’t have anything against artificial sweeteners). It’s something my grandma had too, apparently she would get headaches from diet coke. My dad is a (retired, recently) ER doctor, and if I recall he was fairly certain that it’s a food intolerance (on a side note, you must be a pretty good doctor! watching your video was almost spookily verbatim the listening end of conversations I’ve had with my dad) and said it had something to do with my enzymes being stupid jerks, if I recall.
I obviously can (and do) research this on my own, but I like your videos a lot!
Side note to potential commenters: Feel free to refrain from nasty or accusatory comments. I’m not some hippy on a crusade against “unnatural” this or thatBut I know when my head hurts; you telling me why It’s not the way I say it is and can’t possibly be artificial sweeteners at fault does not change that I am me, and I have lived with this for about 7 years now, and have deduced all this with basic pattern recognition skillsIt’s undoubtedly artificial sweeteners (or natural no-calorie sweeteners). Comments involving facts or educated reasoning are welcomenay, encouraged.
Very well done and informative video! Really appreciate all the research you did to create this. Plus I gotta say, your one smart cookie:)
some times your right laci…maybe sometimes i like you as a person xD
Between sugar and artificial sweetener, the sugar is worse. As a direct replacement to sugar in reasonable eating, switching has a significant impact. My weight is much more under control than when I had sugar in my life.
Lies check out http://www.sweetmiseryapoisandworld.com and http://www.vaxxed.com and http://www.prescriptionfordisaster.com and http://www.burzynskinovie.com this information can be confirmed by doctor Joseph mercola at http://www.mercola.com get your facts right
Nope, not safe Splenda is not the answer to lose weight, praying is the answer to lose weight!!! Talk to Jesus how you feel
And if you have a history of disease or developing disease don’t eat them
I use things like sparkling water now, no sugar, no sweeteners, just me and the burning bubbles
I’ve tried to stay away from artificial sweeteners since the whole thing with it becoming common knowledge that aspartame is no good for you
And even steer clear of foods that say diet on them because I don’t want to eat artificial sweeteners most of the foods most likely to have them
Can you or anyone discuss the recently published article discussing the association between artificial sweeteners and dementia? Is concerning since we’ve learned that they are safe.
American Cancer Society is looking for more Customers, those that believe the “diet and zero” line are suckers.
Artificial sweeteners make me get stomach ache and diarrhea, so ill stick with sugar any time.
Damn, this dude looks like god played Mister Potato Head with him. His dumpy lady body isn’t helping him either. Yikes!
Wait, doesn’t normal sugar also send the same message? How would using real sugar make you eat less of it? What a crappy argument.
I’m so glad that I found Stephanie’s channel. I’m actually learning something from her videos. She makes complex topics so fun and easy to understand:)
0:24 s. The first artificial sweetener (belive it or not) was Lead.
“Lead: The Ancient (And Deadly) Artificial Sweetener”
https://www.scienceabc.com/eyeopeners/lead-the-ancient-and-deadly-artificial-sweetener.html
0:32 Well… I thought the appetite is directly affected by our insulin response? Which these sweeteners don’t give compared to normal sugar. Can someone explain this to me more clearly?
Wow! Not much science, more like LACK of SCIshow. Sugar did not “break’ anything. Sugar substitutes do NOT cause confusion, people choose not to stop eating, nothing to do with sweeteners, ugh! Take responsibility for your actions, don’t blame sweeteners and STOP EATING so damn much!
The Meta-crap uses 50,000 people, they can anything and they do. Cane sugar comes form plants like honey, duh, pfft
Do artificial sweeteners still trigger an insulin spike that can lead to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes?
Making a risk comparison between regular and artificially sweetened sodas ignores healthy unsweetened options.
1:35 this argument is unclear since they don‘t show over what period of time
I had bacon and eggs for breakfast this morning. I purchased all natural bacon with no preservatives. I noticed it tasted a little sweet and when I looked at the ingredients it had turbinado sugar in it. Did I kick myself out of keto?
Example 1 of why we don’t believe everything that’s on the internet
1:33 You failed to mention over what period of time. If it was one year then yes it isn’t much, but if it’s a week it is!
Shes fat and why is she teaching people about shit on discovery channel
What about products like Sparkling Ice sparkling water that has pure sucralose in it or jello that has aspartame in it? Is it gonna spike my blood sugar? Is it bad to consume?
Finally! Thank you very much for this awesome review. I can take Whey again
I just training myself to drink black coffee with no sugar or no sweeteners. Want to play it safe? Simply avoid it all.
I don’t understand why people don’t do their own research or why this lady is dismissing the studies that show that ingesting sweeteners cause an insulin spike as badly as sugar in some cases. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23633524
In fact what the heck is this lady talking about? One of the studies she posted show how both aspartame and stevia have a higher insulinogenic index than sugar. What am I not understanding here? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2900484/
You should be careful about encouraging consumption of these. Aside from harmful alcohols used to make them that destroy insulin balance in the body, The brain itself can be damaged by aspartame as well as other parts of the body. U start out with a message about being over reactive n most stop there. These artificial sweeteners do spike blood sugar and I’ve watched it do so in elderly patients with no other change in diet but Splenda and powdered sugar free drinks.. Views should not supersede good information. My dad watched a few seconds n went ah hah I told u it wasn’t hurting me. Just so you and others know….. aspartame especially… google the affects of aspartame…
This ignores the fact that all artificial sweeteners aren’t the same and that such natural wood alcohol sweeteners like erythritol will cause nausea and gastric problems when consumed in large quantities such as in drinks.
I see you commented on, or ‘liked’ some comments that mentioned Sweve. However, I don’t see where Swerve is mentioned in the video.
What does Ruled.me think of Swerve?
Where does it rank?
Switching to diet soda helped me lose a lot of weight, but my anti-gmo all-organic sister told me I’d get tumors from the aspartame. Then I remembered healthcare triage and looked to see if you’d done a video on this. You guys never disappoint.
I think artificial sweeteners are not metabolized, they build up and induce biological chemical rebounds. Thereby; chemical dependancy. But it is not absorbed in our G.I. system thereby irritating all other nutritional absorptions and permeability. I used stevia, hated it after about 3 days I got headaches and more symptoms I did not like. The “trade off” was not worth it. I use raw sugar in a controlled amount. Self control is healthier.
Do u think u could give us a few replacements of artificial sweeteners like honey…
Having people unwilling to cut sweet tastes and instead consume products with artificial sweeteners proves that sugar is one hell of a drug but nobody cares.
Many can’t even have a coffe without sugar, or can’t live without soft drinks.
Ffs, now she canibalizes on science? I guess boobs sell…..
My question is who pays forthe false results of these fslse studies
stevia and erythritol are your go to sweetners for drinks and cooking. try micro dosing to start. It took me awhile to get used to them. Now I enjoy them a lot more. If you want to lose weight and get healthy. The alternative is no sweetners. No sugar.. that’s the fact. Go for it..
Artificial sweeteners give me migraines. That’s enough for me to stay away
i can confirm this, i drink monster energy sugar free and i am hungry much more often then when i do not. luckily i don’t drink it as a diet but instead i drink it because i get acne from regular sugar drinks. i also sometimes feel much weaker than normal after having on. i think thats my body wondering why theres no energy boost from the sugar. sounds extremely plausible
i just bought stevia today and was disappointed when i got home and read the package. the first ingredient was dextrose. i don’t understand why. so 4 packages has 2mg of carbs. it made me mad.
I can confirm as someone that drinks Splenda tea and diet soda only, I am dieting just fine without hunger. Hunger comes from sugar and carbs. If you just give your diet a few days you will adjust.
I used to be addicted to soda. I started having symptoms of prediabetes. I switched to diet soda and the symptoms went away, though I quit altogether later, the switch to diet soda kept me from being diabetic.
All I know is when I drink or eat something with artificial sweeteners my stomach gets upset or queasy and doesn’t feel good.
America tests on Rats. Extrapolates it to humans. Gets Nobel Prize
Maybe people are freaked out, because what host they use to put the artificial sweetener on…. fecal matter from E coli
I lost 80kg/176lbs while drinking 1,5liters Cola Zero every day and still do.
Saccharine started out as an experimental rat poison. A lab tech “tasted” it.. instead of “testing” it.
Since I already am a diabetic (have been type-1 for almost 52 years), I don’t see any reason to not continue using Splenda, (I use it mostly to flavor hot drinks).
I don’t over do it; in fact, what’s truly weird is that if I feel my blood-sugar is low, I’ll grab a packet of Splenda, dump it down my craw, and feel many degrees better! (This may be due to the fact that the first ingredient in Splenda, as well as other artificial sweeteners, is dextrose, a type of sugar…)
Of course, I will then proceed to eat something more substantial… but for my immediate relief, keeping that yellow packet around has proven invaluable.
I always check the label. If it contains Aspartame, it’s going back on the shelf. It’s even found in some crisps (Potato chips) too.
Everything in moderation apart.from artificial sweetener which tastes mildly sweet, but also shares a lot of tastes with aspirin and has that nasty bitter after taste.
Mayo Clinic is trying to reduce the boost in the 0-Cal Sweetner market and its not gonna work.
Useless without brand names….I,dont care to get a PhD degree in chemistry in addition to the PhD I already HAVE! Just silly.
what about studies that have shown that artificial sweeteners taste sweeter than regular table sugar, and can potentially be a risk for needing more sugar when you consume the regular type (things taste less sweet the more artificial sweeteners you take)
We just need to control our calories intake along with diet sweetener (average use).
Thanks for the explantation. I bought some stevia here in Germany, it looks like refined sugar but it has 0 cal. it is 98% carb. how can this be?
I find stevia very bitter. I bought it, used it once then chucked it in the bin and it was never cheap
There are numerous studies showing how global warming doesn’t exist. Some studies presented by drug companies show amazing results for medications with copious amounts of data to back it.
There are many harmful chemicals that are approved by the FDA.
Thank you. Actually non biased information. All other videos are for keto diet and they are all about sweetener
Really?? Artificially sweetened beverages are better than beverages with real sugars? I just can’t buy that. I think sodas with real sugars are terrible, but those with artificial chemicals are much worse
artificial sweeteners just taste nasty and way too chemically to me
I know this not make much sense but I used to drink a ton of diet pop and never had a problem, but recently ive been buying crystal light with caffeine and I put it in water. Then I ate a bunch of food and went to town on my favorite diet soda and I had a huge stomach ache. I have had 3 bad stomach aches since I switched over to the crystal light. So drinking the carbonated soda mixed with my crystal light gut and it is giving stomach aches. Also I purchased 50 dollars worth of chewing gum to attemp quitting smoking last year, I never swallow the gum but I think that is whats giving me the stomach aches as well. Plus I eat like a pig, love my pizza and stuff. My father drank diet soda his whole life though and he developed diabetes in his 60’s. Looks like I need to make some changes…
I started drinking Coke Zero rather than regular coke (I rarely drink it anyway) and I found that it has a better taste than regular coke and it doesn’t give me horrible headaches! I think these headaches are because of the rush of sugar from the beverage.
I am still not sure which sweetener is the best for diabetics. I was told that monkfruit is good but I watch these videos and there are too many choices. A lot have bulk bags of almond or coconut flour, the husk thickener and make sure u put this sugar with that sugar or it will taste bitter. Is there no simple solution for diabetics? Which sugar is best for the diabetic, be it for baking or otherwise? Thank you.
I know this is an older vid of yours but I really appreciate it. This eases my anxiety about having a reasonable amount of artificial sweeteners. I really enjoy having a can of fruity sparkling water a sugar-free jello cup everyday.
Aspartame and Sucralose are terrible migraine triggers for me and my sister. I wonder how many other people experience migraines triggered by artificial sweeteners?
Saccharin is the only artificial sweetener I can use and the only one that doesn’t have a funky chemical taste.
So you take away honey but cookies and ice cream are okay, well that is a pretty messed up kind of diet
I’m drinking Pepsi max and other sugar free sodas every day. I only drink 1 can and I have some days I only drink it every second day. Should I be worried? I can’t really seem to stop drinking it since it tastes good. I drink about 2-3 liters of water every day doo with it, so I’m not only drinking the aspartame stuff. Also I’m chewing aspartame gum everyday since my teeth wouldn’t like sugar gum:)
I love this! I love these information. It helps me know what to put in my body. I enjoy all your videos, but these are my favorites because I can get educated as I’m working out and it makes me more aware of what my next meal will be. Thank you for all your hard work!! ❤❤
I still think the best tasting and simple sweetener out there is Lakanto Monkfruit, 0 cal, 0 glycemic, 0 carbs, and 2 ingredients, non-gmo Erythritol, and the natural Monkfruit, that’s it.
Hi, Stephanie! Yesterday I had an argument with a friend regarding this same topic: “are artificial sweeteners harmful?”. I said no, explained that effects of artificial sweeteners have been studied, but I also referenced him to this video! I just wanted to tell you that this type of in depth content is awesome. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this! Yes, xylitol is the one that makes me sick! So glad you mentioned that because I’ve been wary of using any of these sugar replacements, because I remembered getting sick once from eating something sugar-free, but didn’t know it was the xylitol.
If you really don’t like licorice, that’s why so many don’t care for stevia. But you’ve also got to know, sugar substitutes in liquid form are sugar free, however once its made to a powder, it can add carbs and sugar. The powder used to make the sugar sub is what you need to keep an eye on. And if you’re diabetic, check your glucose, if it doesn’t raise my blood sugar, that doesn’t mean it won’t raise yours
Brilliant video. Stevia has some after taste. Erithritol is good but sweetness is little low. So Xylitol n Allulose is good but has some effect on stomach. So best way is to combine all the 4. Can u suggest the ratio for combination of all 4 to bring a decent sweetness powder with less calorie n Glycemic index with decent sweetness. Thanks n love from india
That was a lot of info! Hats off for all that digging around & presentation! I really enjoyed it, thank you!
Im fasting when i eat splenda. I dont get hungry. Mayo clinic? WTF
What about Monk fruit? I’ve heard that there’s a sweetener that is half Stevia and half Monk fruit. My aunt says it tastes great and I’m guna give it a try. I’ve gone down 35lbs in the last 3 months on Keto and I’m excited for what next year holds.
Today I Found Out please delete or redo this video you. As an engineer/scientists I find it appalling how videos of such incredibly harmful misinformation get spread. Aspartame is extreme dangerous and it’s rise to acceptance is a terrifying example of the high level corruption that happens in a capitalistic country. Any study you read that ignores or downplays the effects of aspartame are likely sponsored by the very company that has the most to gain from its use. Almost every truly independent study reveals multiple significant side effects.
Monkfruit is the best sweetener of all IMO. The closest thing to sugar. Just expensive.
Ariana Grande’s Sweetener album is shaking so badly right now
“People are suspicious of chemicals.” EVERYTHING is made of chemicals. There is not a single concrete thing, except vacuum, that is not made of chemicals.
i only use 100% sucralose poweder without maltodextrin taste like sugar but have zero calories
The conclusion that you should cut back on artificial sweeteners just to be safe isn’t appealing when crave sweets but don’t want to resort to rotting your teeth, becoming obese and possibly diabetic. So far there’s no reason aspartame can directly influence weight gain.
Would love to hear what you think about the studies done on gut bacteria and non nutritive sweeteners. Here is an article that references one study, but I think there was a study of humans specifically showing weight gain with an artificial sweetener, with a correlation to a specific gut bacteria. https://www.usnews.com/news/health-care-news/articles/2018-10-01/study-artificial-sweeteners-toxic-to-digestive-gut-bacteria
Only 2 million people consume aspartame around the world regularly? This doesn’t make sense.
1:31 No artificial sweeteners won’t make you lose weight. But lowering sugar consumption does. Therefore going from a lot of sugars to a lot of sweeteners and little sugar will make you lose a lot of weight.
Of course, one example doesn’t prove anything but personally, consuming significant amounts of sweeteners (e.g. from sweet beverages) always makes me hungry within less than an hour.
Who funded the aspartame studies? Are the companies who make these sweetners funding the studies?
ASPERTAME = Neurotoxin.
I was just going to breeze by and go back to mini meat Jeffs videos but then you went with the great for children to end the segment.
You really have been in a lot of schooling read indoctrination haven’t you.
For an Internet personality I would assume that you source information from the intuitive groups around you, or those with issues (from industrial food stuffs smh) that would give them a perspective on these chemicals?
What do Crohn’s disease, gluten intolerants, and any number of people with food allergies say?
What do people in and around the myriad of different health movements say?
I could point you to about 100 better sources than the big University totally financially tied up with big business based literature that you just espoused.
What would really anyone with a modicum of mind body connection or kinesthetic sense say… Certainly not the corporate line like Suzy school girl.
Aspartame is a neurotoxin.
You just breezed over the actual controversy and set of issues associated with it.
The link between big business, Ag, food, science, food science, nutrition, health, health literature is well documented.
This is an airhead take.
When you get into acceptable levels you should think about Rachael Carson Silent Spring written 60 years ago.
It explains how there is no such thing as a herbicide.. it is a biocide.
This packet of chemistry doesn’t discriminate, it doesn’t hurt you in the same way it hurts a bug but it hurts you in a chronic, homeopathic, trace amount way.
The analogy is plain.
The companies write this literature.
My high school girlfriend became a Dentist.. her name was Stephanie, and no.. I don’t think the however many years of school un airheaded her.
To the contrary.
Only a real intellect, and self individualized person can suffer the indoctrination and come out the other side a free thinking, humanity serving physician.
Think Patch Adams.
The line between pharma sales chick and doc babe is getting mighty thin lass.
Please reconsider the spectrum of sourcing on this info.
This isn’t muscle meat head glute fiber science based.
I know your trying to do a thing here… like Bro Jeff,
when you start saying that Aspartame is great for kids
Doing wayyy to much.
I stopped using all artificial sweeteners because they seem to cause oily skin and face bumps.
Aspartame makes me feel like shit. Sucralose hasn’t harmed me yet though.
What about sugar alcohols like erythritol and xylitol? Have those been studied much? (Of course, theyr’re not entirely non-caloric, but pretty close.)
I think this is very dangerous information. Even though cancer risk might not be a heavy factor, there are tons of other reasons, why artificial sweeteners are very unhealthy.
They make you more fat than real sugar, they are addictive, they let your pancres produce insulin because of the sweet taste, even though no sugar is incoming, which then can lead to an increased tolerance of insulin (what makes you fat), they slow metabolism.
Don’t take my, or his word for it, just do a little research on your own to be sure.
If you want to jump around https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhzpxjuwZy0
So until a scientific study comes out to say otherwise. Then go to town. Sweet!
The studies I’ve seen show them to mess with metabolism and gut flora, but not increase appetite or mess with blood glucose/insulin.
lol because fat people blame diet soda for diabetes and weight.. its got nothing to do with the rest of your diet and lifestyle. Some scientists are dumb af too.
I like all these people pushing Stevia so hard (don’t get me wrong, I like it too) when not much is known about it yet. Where as Aspartame seems to more thoroughly studied and it seems like there isn’t solid evidence against it yet.
I can’t believe she said drinking 21 cans of diet soda a day is okay for you lol
In my experience, the more sugar I eat, the more I want. Her last sentence didn’t feel right to me
lots of reading in the description? youtube is for watching videos, not clicking links to read
Well, I doubt beer can be made from artificial sweeteners, so, what good are they???
This channel is awesome! I love how the cooking videos are short and have no one talking in them-they are easy to understand and not too long. I can’t find the testimonials of other people’s success though. I’ve looked through the playlists. Can someone help? I’m only on Day 7 so far, but the scale says I’m already down 6 lbs, and that is 6 lbs OFF of my injured spine! A back injury is what pushed me to do keto. I need to lose 100lbs or so. I’m gonna do it!
Could you do a video on sugar alcohols? I recently read a couple of places that they can increase loose stool, especially in those with preexisting intestinal problems like IBD and IBS, but their references didn’t seem all that great, and I’d like to know more about whether is does or not, as I fall into the preexisting category. There seems to be a correlation between them and my loose stools, looking at my trigger foods, but obviously the issue of confirmation bias and other contributors make it hard for me to figure it all out and if it really is a causal factor.
The effect of sweetener on the microbiome has not been completely elucidated. My opinion is that they are detrimental to the microbiota and you would be best just having moderate amounts of actual sugar.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6363527/
I’m sticking with a teeny portion of honey can’t trust these bitchass companies
I bought stevia but when I read it’s ingredients it contains maltodextrin. Is it a safe ingredient?
Is that a can of coke zero with a “diet soda” tag taped on? I love it.
I wonder if the sugar industry funds some of these scientists who do the clinical studies on artificial sweeteners
0 cal sweeteners teach your brain carbohydrate taste = no actual calories. This makes you REALLY hungry.
Also natural!= good, artificial!= bad. Don’t trust stevia just because it’s not made from coal tar, and don’t not trust saccharin because it’s made from coal tar.
I’m concerned about two small packages a day good or bad long-term?
Stephanie, you are brilliant, gorgeous, and such an inspiration! Thank you for your academic content, fitness and diet tips, and for letting us see your raw, genuine character! ❤️
Thank you Sci Show for stating the facts and not your bias…. unlike the “what I’ve learnt” channel.
I loved this video!
one thing i was very expecting in this video but didn’t see you tuch unfortently was the assumption that many people get digestive issues from artifical sweetners? would love to hear your opinion on that.
I know it’s an old video but i still hope youll read this. and I really edmier you for going all in and sharing, vournbilty is much more unique and needed in social media than a lot of other shitty content out there.
Nothing is dangerous to you. Because you get the info from the source. The makers will not admit what they are selling you is bad.
I use Zensweet Monk Fruit Sweetener ordered on Amazon. Did not affect my blood sugar and had no strange taste like I would have with other sweeteners.
Some people, like myself, are extremely sensitive to artificial sweeteners. I have always been thin, underweight, so was drawn to them only out of curiosity, thinking that theoretically it would be a good alternative to having a sugary drink for the sake of my teeth, if I were out and about and not in a place where I wanted to go brush my teeth. When it was first introduced, I also thought Gatorade (which was artificially sweetened) would be a good electrolyte replacement for when I was exercising and sweating a lot. I bought it a few times, but hated it, and couldn’t really drink it.
My reaction to drinking 2 oz. of an artificially sweetened diet drink is to get a slight headache (and I am not headache prone at all), constriction in my throat (which goes away after an hour), and a mood change to depressed and feeling of being very unwell which can last hours and into half of the day following. I am not prone to depression and so in the rare instances when I am depressed, it is alarming and unusual.
The taste of artificial sweeteners rot in my mouth. I think it is possible that is a natural signal my body gives me that it is poison for me. I detect the sweetness fine, but the rest of the taste is rotten, horrible tasting, like how could people drink this stuff? Of course, it doesn’t taste that way to most people, or they’d be like me, unable to use it.
I realized one day that if I brushed my teeth too much in one day, like four times, I would feel sick, and that it was from the artificial sweetener in the toothpaste, even though I rinse five times. I switched to using just a tiny amount of toothpaste and combining it with baking soda, and I’m okay with that.
Starting in about 1960, my father was diagnosed with mild Type 2 diabetes, and he controlled it for the rest of his life with diet only, by avoiding sugars including fruit, and staying low in starches. But he struggled for his whole life with depression, and I wonder now if it’s possible it was because of the artificial sweetener he used in his coffee and other foods.
I’m confused as to why monk fruit would not have been mentioned at all. Also, some people are seeing insulin spikes with Stevia, I am hearing?
This was one of our lectures in a healthy aging course that I took last semester. Now while I am open to the topic of using artificial sweeteners I found it difficult to agree with some of studies. First of all I find it hard fathom the thought of consuming coal tar (saccharine) to slim down my waistline, but if that suit your fancy go for it. Another thing that we talked about in our lecture was the fact that the substitute sweetener packets say “two times sweeter than sugar.” My thought on this is that it would increase the bad habits of those consuming those products. As mentioned in the video it is up to the person to regulate their own habits when concerning their diet, but there is some truth to wanting more sugar. This could be part of the reason that many who use artificial sweetener are gaining weight. Furthermore it is important to look into who is doing the research and who is paying for them.
I’ve read your body still reacts as though sugar has come into the body ie blood glucose levels go up, this is partly why diabetes happens more in people using sweeteners. Plus the cravings it creates and the potential over indulging even more than if you just had sugar (which you at least get energy for.) The cravings lead to over eating & overindulgence, as they can be as much as 200 times more sweet.
Do Zevia teas spike insulin? It is zero carb and zero calories. Its sweetened with stevia but is fruit flavored.
The way you adressed the link of sweeteners to insulin secretion is kind of a strawman argument.
Interesting about Xylitol. KetoConnect.net did a broad test (search on YouTube) of sweeteners and found a very high blood sugar response to that particular sugar alcohol. As in a 21 and 25% spike. Of course, that’s just the two of them, but it was 100% of the two of them. Makes me want to try it myself, though I just use erythritol and don’t really care about Xylitol.
Also, would love to know your take on Monkfruit (Lakanto). I haven’t gotten around to testing myself and clearly need to remind myself to do so.
Love your work, Sarah!
Steph, you are the best!!!! I wish all social media influencers were like you, science based and worried about providing the best content. Congrats from a food scientist! <3
isn’t sucralose a sucrose (glucose bonded to fructose) chain? like starch and galactos are shugar chains?
This was such piss poor research, what about the link to fatty liver? Autoimmune disorders? Heart disease? Cancer? Inflammation? You are dangerous to your subscribers.
So late to watch this but I appreciate the amount of research you did for this!
Studies are flawed Average rats weigh 7 ounces, the average rats eats about 12-15 grams of food, so one ounce is 2.8 grams so a mouce essentially eats almost it’s entire body weight in food some days… People don’t!!!
Sooo now I can tell my friends that Stevia, labeled as a natural sweetener, is still artificial?? Haha they can’t get on me with what I drink now.
“Am I drinking cancer?” what difference does it make when you ARE cancer.
The problem I have with artificial sweeteners is that they’re not natural. Your body isn’t meant to consume the chemicals used to make the sweeteners. Aspartame and Sucralose are the worst. They most likely aren’t going to cause cancer or any other fatal illness, (I’ll agree, people over exaggerate on that one) but they will cause weight gain. Your body doesn’t understand what you’re putting into it, therefore it will store it as fat because it thinks “you may need it later”, or if you don’t exercise/ burn off the calories. With cane sugar, it is very sweet because it’s PURE, but your body recognizes it and is more likely to burn it off rather than store it as fat. I’m not saying that it won’t cause you to gain weight, because it definitely will. To much of anything will cause weight gain. However, a major contribution to the obesity epidemic right now is people being brainwashed with the “fat free will not make me get fat”. That’s not true at all. Since the companies are taking all of the fat out of the product, they still have to make it taste good. So guess what! They add sugar! Sugar is more likely to cause weight gain than fat. The FDA and food companies could care less about your health, they just care about making money. (Think about it; why are the FDA working together if they are separate things? The Drug Department of the FDA makes money off of sick people, so the food department will distribute the fat free and processed foods to kind of “make people gain weight/ get sick”. Then they’ll go buy medicine and drugs to lose weight and get better) Now I know I’m probably going to get a lot of replies telling me off on this, but I don’t want to argue; just remember, everything in moderation.
Well there is 1 minute of my life wasted. I’ll never trust the Mayo Clinic again.
I can’t stand the taste of most artificial sweeteners. I’ll stick to sugar. Actually, I prefer salty and don’t consume a lot of sugar anyway, so that’s probably why I don’t like them.
I am glad that this video is discussing the safety of artificial sweeteners and in particular talks about aspartame. I completely agree with him about how once a myth is out their and the media has a frenzy with it, it becomes extremely difficult to debunk a myth. Today I often here people who say they no longer drink diet sodas because of the aspartame and how it “causes cancer”. I appreciate how this video goes into detail to show how that link and connection between the two is just not true. More people need to be educated on this topic about these artificial sweeteners and learn not to believe everything that is in the media.
Stevia has always been my go-to for sweetening coffee or healthy desserts
YOu are talking NONSENSE Alcohol sugars are SUGARS and will have the highest impact (NOT THE LOWEST) on blood sugar. They dont have as much calories as sugar but its up there. Your whole take on “Bulking agents” and liquids is nonsense. If you use Aspartame and Sucralose in powerded form There is NO bulking agents unless you buy Splenda and Nutrasweet. Go on Amazon there are hundreds of powdered options for 100% product with no bulking agents.
Artificial sweeteners hijack your brain and disregulate your dopamine receptors so that over the years you start eating exclusively for pleasure rather than for nutrition. I fell victim to this. 5 years ago, I started by drinking 1 can of Diet Coke a day. A few years later, I was obese, drinking entire bottles of it like it was nothing on a daily basis, not because I wanted it, but because I was treating it as a stimulant and loved the high that I got from it. I stopped drinking it, a year later I lost hella weight. I don’t understand how a dose dependent response is weak evidence. How much stronger evidence can you possibly find in a nutrition study
Great breakdown on sweeteners and the referenced site has an excellent chart. Stick to the liquid.
Best to stay away from all “sweeteners”, period. I have been on a sugar-free diet for some months now. I had some protein powder with sucralose yesterday and I had a serious reaction to it. Blood sugar went THROUGH THE ROOF, I felt nauseous and very sleepy, and the rest of the day I felt like I was hungover from drinking. Never doing that again. Nearly all artificial (read, NOT NATURAL) sweeteners are devastating to your gut bacteria, and they can raise blood level and insulin more than real sugar. Stay away.
It’s a shame that you’re opening the gate to artificial sweeteners. The path leads to diabetes, IBS, and Crohn’s disease. Check out long-term effects
Sweeteners = slow kill, also too much caffiene causes dehydration and strain your kidneys wake up people your governments lie….ps look at propaganda globe earth on that TV lol.. this pretty face/shill is there to brainwash you…. No artificial sweeteners are safe
I keep hearing about erythritol but it’s loaded with carbs yet no one is explaining it?
My blood sugar is 250. I am a diabetic, can not have white sugar, it could damage my health. Now another group of people say we should ban all artificial sweeteners because I say so. They keep misquoting the same studies they misquoted years ago but since I’m now misquoting the studies what I say is true. You know what, if you fed a lab rat as much sugar as they fed them artificial sweeteners in these studies you know what would happen? They end up diabetic and have to eat aspartame to help control their blood sugar like the rest of us. If the product isn’t meant for you just ignore it.
A fantastic video with very good information…Thank you doc.
Sorry for so many questions…looked at the chart on the website, allulose and erythritol both have a GI of 0 but allulose has Net Carbs listed 0-5 and erythritol is listed as 5, every site I’ve ever looked as has said to SUBTRACT these from the carb count because they DONT contribute to Net Carbs so why are they being counted as net carbs on your chart. Im new to keto and trying to learn. Thank you for any help!!!
There’s a new one on the market called PureCane, ever heard of it? Where does it fall if you have?
People are so misguiding. Watching this guy makes me sick to my stomach
Is there any body who can answer my question? Is cafe al fresco sugar free sweetner keto friendly???
LOL every single video on this channel is a joke. There have been more complaints put into the FDA about aspartame than EVERY OTHER FOOD AND DRUG COMBINED!!! This video was brought to you by a complete idiot.
Diet soda was initially thought of as a way to help combat the obesity epidemic in the United States. Of course after some studies found a link between artificial sweeteners and an increase in bladder cancer in rats, media headlines promoted this idea to the public. Since that time it seems that everywhere you look someone is trying to make a point about the dangers of diet sodas. Listening to this video really brought to light the actual factual evidence that does not support this idea. For one, I thought it was very interesting that Vitamin C in large quantities could also be found to cause bladder cancer in rats. Further discussion also shows that this research cannot be replicated in humans, and thus far there has been no link between an increase in cancer and artificial sweeteners. Apparently some people have commented on the fact that there is methanol in diet soda as well, but he makes a great point that there is more methanol in fruits and vegetables in diet soda. He concludes with a powerful statement about the abundance of evidence that points to an increased intake of sugar in the diet leading to health problems, but a lack of evidence that artificial sweeteners are doing the same. Even though he makes listeners aware that he is not promoting diet drinks as a “diet tool”, it was important to make note that the weight gain associated with diet drinks is often the fault of the behaviors of those that are consuming them.
your not making a statement by not doing your hair, you just look bad
0:03 recent research? pretty sure sugar has been known to be bad for our teeth and overall heath for centuries
The latest health fad seems to be all about hating anything artificial whether it be gmos or artificial sweeteners.
One of the most popular sweeteners being used by bodybuilders I know is Sugar Twin. I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned. Great video though!
regular sugar is not good for the body because they use a bleaching process to make it white and sugar does have small amounts of bleach in it,…its best to use honey or agave regular sugar also feeds cancer cells to grow as well,..
It amazes me how almost anything that comes out now is criticized by the U.S. as being bad for you because some random journal or study suddenly came out saying it was. People need to be informed that some of these studies are complete crap and you shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet or see on television unless its by a valid source. Artificial sweeteners where never proven bad for you the studies show it has never caused any certain kinds of cancers though I am kind of afraid of there findings from when they tested the chimps because they are closer to us in relatives and cancers that might be common to them might be common to us. So it could possibly point out that artificial sweeteners do cause some harm, but I guess that was proven wrong. But its things like this that make people afraid of certain things then scientists spend money doing these studies to prove there is nothing wrong, when that money could be used to do more important tests and studies.
i died from diabetis was brought back to life and told to exrecise and stay off sugar and for 5 years i am still alive…but i saw peter made an icecream with 10 grams of sorbitol and i had 400 grams and the next day i went into a semi tyred comea type lazyness i contributed to the ice cream.. if that had been sugar it might have been worse since ice crwam can have 50 grams of suigar i it so i dont have it any more until they lower it to 10 milligrams a thousand times less in my blood.. now heinz has similer bake beans but no where will they tell me how much is in the tin so i measure my blood and how i fel the next day but i feel they are not telling me the truth and my life depends on this.. thamnk you skeatesybubbygoddess 2020
Just aknowlegde that refined sugar is also an artificial sweetner
Artificial sweeteners are my favorite constipation relief! Taste the best too lol
I’m kinda curious as to what you think about the effects on gut microbiome is it significant enough for us to worry about? Thanks:) this video was very helpful
I’m type one diabetic and my insulin injection is less than half amount since trying out the keto diet ✨ loving the pyure sweetener
If artificial sweeteners are safe, then Darth Vader is Princess Leia…
This seems overly personal and biased-especially the weird rant about micromanaging your own family’s diet. Whatever a doctor is willing to do to their children does not count as scientific evidence. There is, however, a scientific study that showed that rats that consumed artificially sweetened yogurt ate more total calories than rats that ate sugar-sweetened yogurt, and also studies that concluded that sweet tastes cause the pancreas to release more insulin. I really don’t understand why physicians in particular can’t seen to grasp the idea that hormones affect behavior-All hormones-even those released in the pancreas! It’s like saying sex hormones couldn’t possibly affect behavior because they are released by the gonads and not the brain. LOL This was a weird one
It would be helpful if you did updates to the research on this topic annually. I heard that artificial sweeteners can cause metabolic syndrome, which I have. So I stopped all soda and now am trying to remove them from my morning tea. I can do without it in ice tea but my morning hot tea is so difficult. It would be great to know if it is really a high risk and necessary to do or not. Updates on it as a carcinogen would be helpful too.
Your lying. I use Splenda only and I lost weight. Bunch study baloney’s
This has got to be the least productive 60 seconds I’ve ever experienced.
Aspartame and also causes Juicy Fruit gum and big red gum to have horrible aftertaste since they decided to make it a low sugar product.
I’m wanting to buy maple syrup but it has Sorbitol, Sucralose are these 2 ok? Label Said 0.1 carbs and 0 sugar. Looks good?
3 Lovely little fact. Crimes were committed to put aspartame on the market, and they were not prosecuted because of statute of limitations. When your body metabolizes it, it splits into its three constituents. A neurotoxin, a carcinogen, and methanol. The body thinks that it is sugar and releases insulin.
Drink up
Artifical sweeteners cause release of Insulin just like sugar, however as that Insulin isn’t used up to regulate blood sugar (because there isn’t any) this increases Insulin resistance over time. Enjoy your diabeetuz
I was once lectured by my friend’s wife about how diet soda was building formaldehyde in my brain and that it would kill me. Her source: a Netflix ‘documentary’. The topic in question is if artificial sweeteners are harmful, and according to science, the answer is no. The question is not whether we should drink water instead, of course that’s a better choice, but that is steering away from the topic. Dr. Carroll makes a point when mentioning methanol, that chemicals are in everything and that they are unavoidable. Unfortunately as he described several ‘arguments’ against diet soda, we can better see that there is a missing link between the general public and actual science. As always, we fall back onto the fact that there were some rats (who are prone to bladder cancer) that developed bladder cancer during a study where they were ingesting very large amounts of artificial sweetener. Even if this is causation and not correlation, the study could not be replicated in monkeys (within reason) and has continuously not shown evidence of being the case in humans. There was one very clear message in this video, and that involved the overdose of sugar induced caloric intake with regular soda, and that this can be alleviated when a diet soda replaces that beverage. There is an epidemic of obesity in America, and obesity does not just mean someone is fat, it means possible diabetes, heart disease, decreased mobility, and a laundry list of other secondary effects. By arguing that artificial sweeteners are harmful when the science says otherwise, is not only annoying those who know better, however it could be harming those who are not afraid to switch. The media hysteria that is becoming all too prevalent in the world is partially to blame; although this firestorm is only facilitated by the lack of scientific knowledge in the vast majority of the general public to whom they preach.
His nose points a bit to his left. I know it’s not from the subject of the video, but now I can’t unsee it.
There is another dark side to artificial sweeteners. A small percentage of people are hypersensitive or allergic to them. I am one of those people. Since I have never been overweight in my life, and hated the vile, rotten taste of anything with saccharin in it, I didn’t grasp how sensitive I was. I mostly avoided drinks with it, except one time recently, after retiring. It was then I discovered I am sensitive to the amounts of sodium saccharin commonly found in things like toothpaste. It is also used in some mouthwash, although I don’t usually use mouthwash. I remember years ago trying a plaque-reducing rinse that worked very well but I could not use it because I felt so sick from it. More recently, I had switched to a new toothpaste that was much sweeter, and evidentially loaded with saccharin compared to what I was using before. It made my throat close up slightly. And when I brush my teeth, I rinse copiously.
It was an incident a few months before that made me consider my sensitivity to artificial sweeteners again to even make the connection between toothpaste and the feeling in my throat. By mistake, I got artificially sweetened lemonade from a spout in a restaurant and felt really sick after drinking an ounce of it, although I could tell right away it was artificially sweetened. My throat started closing up very quickly. I knew it was artificially sweetened but thought I’d be okay drinking only an ounce. It also changed my mood in a way that shocked me. I felt a sudden and severe depression, which is very rare for me as I am at the other end of the scale, usually content. It lifted by the next day and I felt normal and well.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a portion, maybe 1%, of people with clinical depression are that way because of drinking artificial sweeteners.
Lost an aunt a couple of years ago to Pancreatic Cancer. She only used Sweet N Low and similar brands of “sugar”. I don’t touch the stuff.
Curious, did you go straight to the manufacturers of these products to get your info?
Thank you for all the effort:-) have an important question.. What about using diet sugar thats made from Stevia? is that ok? I couldnt find any of the sweetners u talked about n my country except for stevia which is rare here and doesnt even taste good:(
the one I have is Candrel:
https://www.missmysupermarket.com/canderel-green-stevia-sweetener-75g.html
Hi Stephanie,
Found this useful, has anything changed in recent years? Also I’ve heard sucralose use in cooking / heating is linked to cancer. https://www.treehugger.com/health/baking-and-cooking-splenda-releases-carcinogens-food.html
Monk fruit sweetner is delicious, natural and no wierd aftertaste.
This is very helpful and well made. Appreciate the research.
still, i would recommend things like Stevia. This only because the sweetness profile of most other sweeteners just lasts too long.
Can i use just 1 tsp of honey per day to sweeten my coffee? I dont snack nor crave for sweet but just cant drink coffee bitter
Artificial Sweeteners are being exported from china in large quantity. Buyers needs to know more about the data and Manufacturer’s Information.
Thoughts on the effect of artificial sweeteners on the gut microbiota?
Regular sugar and regular soda is perfectly fine. I have drank and used it for years. I’m 45 and still the same weight 160 that I was when I was 18. Every dr visit blood pressure blood work all is normal.
Also make sure your stevia doesn’t have maltodextrin as a filler.
Thought i had my sweet tooth fix figured out with sugar free popsickles from wally mart. Didnt look too closely at label. Double fisting those things like they were gonna stop makin them tomorrow. 13 grams of carbs per. Couldnt figure out why i was blowin up like a xmas wino. How the hell do jamb 13 into a sugar free popsickle?
What about ham, I have bought this ham and it has 1g of sugar do you think it would be good if I ate it
Is there any plausible relationship between artificial sweeteners and kidney or liver problems?
I know this is a fake new site… http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/20/health/diet-sodas-stroke-dementia-study/index.html Seems there’s at least correlation between daily artificially sweet drink consumption and stroke/dementia. Will be interested to see if other studies and can confirm this or not.
In the nicest possible way I think you are being perhaps a bit too forgiving on the negatives effects of artificial sweeteners see study below showing sucralose destroying the microbiome by 50% and other negative outcomes.

I have been researching Keto for three years and have done the Keto diet on an off. I did lose weight, but because of the mis-information out there, I didn’t do that well. People really are mislead by many websites and folks that are not really experts on Keto. I’m sure they mean well. Your website is awesome! You have provided accurate information and the recipes look awesome! I can’t wait to try some of your recipes. The content and organization of your website is excellent. It’s easy to navigate and all the information I’ve read is spot on. Thank you for the time and energy you’ve put into informing so many people about your story and providing a platform for others to succeed. I also appreciate the fact that you emphasize using clean (organic) ingredients. That matters! Keep up the great work!!!
Is stevia with potassium sorbate and ascorbic acid safe to use?
Artificial sxeeteneer is not good for health! https://share.rainmoney.co/register.php?referral=cebu194
LOVE THIS! Please more. There is so much confusing nutrition content on the internet…yours is science-based and your presentation of it was on point. Thank you!
So I would have to drink over 20 cans of diet coke a day every day to increase risk of type 2 diabetes? Am I understanding right?
I’ve also heard that Artificial sweeteners can be bad for the liver. I wonder if that’s true.
Doesn’t matter which one, they all taste like “medicine….nasty medicine. You can’t fake sugar.
My erythritol shows zero calories but 100% carbohydrates, I am confused, I can not give up drinking tea,I need a sweetner that is good for Keto diet I need to drink tea without breaking my keto diet
WTF D News? Is that laci green? You people were that fucking stupid once?
Detrimental effects of sugar?? Or detrimental effect of sugar because industries put sugar in all our food..?
could anyone direct me to if formaldehyde is created from when artificial sugar Acesulfame-K is left for a few days.
I am wondering about taking granulated sugar subs and making powdered sugar. I have found several that call for corn starch. Is it necessary? Could you use Psyllium Husk or Xanthan Gum
instead of Corn starch? Is it a one to one if so?
ruled me is a women i thought it was a man when i was watching those dessert recipes
