I’ve just got back into walking again with quarantine. It is something I have enjoyed since a young child. I started going to the gym 3 years ago (I’m 57) had a wonderful time learning and loving weightlifting but not losing any weight…..upped my walking during the last few months and voila…..and it’s just steady state. I think it’s easy to pick up pace by week. I started week one at 10mins, then week 2 at 20mins ect until I eventually got to 2hours, which is where I’m at now. I think it’s important beginners start slowly and what’s comfortable for them due to different muscle building rates and fitness levels ect

Then add one more block of 5 minutes out of the 45 for the next 6 weeks and violá! You are now running for 45min straight! Combine this with roughly 3,5 liters (or 1 gallon) of water daily. Don’t eat more than normal and make sure 2 out of 3 meals are healthy per day minimum (an unhealthy meal/snack/entire cheat day per week won’t kill you) and you’ll be in great shape within 10 weeks!

too bad no exercise plan will work without good diet. when it comes to losing weight, healthy diet is 95% that matters and exercise like 5%. if you are keep eating whatever you want, whenever you want, as much as you want like me, working out 2-3 hours a day hard won’t get you anywhere. I spend like 60-80 mins of weight lifting 3-4 times a week, 30 mins stretching everyday plus 60-90 mins running(speed 6-7 miles an hour) or inclined power walking. I’ve been working out like this for past 15 years on and off and I pretty much stayed same intensity for at least 9 months during each year(yes, I went easy for 3 months and being lazy, lol). the result? I am fat muscular guy. I was like 7% body fat at 5’11″/180lbs when I was staying super clean diet but when i stay on bad diet eating like 5000 calories a day for months, I gain incredible amount of weight. I’ve been staying unhealthy diet for past 2 years and now I am at 247lbs, 28% body fat. lol. no amount of work out will make you lose weight if you don’t eat right. unless of course, you are born with special type of body that never gains weight no matter how much you shove in bad foods but most average people like me aren’t born that way. You gotta eat under 2500 calories a day break into 5-6 small meals and eat clean. that plus work is only way to lose weight. there is no magical pill or workout plan that will make you thin while you are on bad diet.

Mam, what do you mean by 10,000 steps per day..is it overall steps in a day or 10,000 steps for exercising apart from steps for normal daily life?

I walk 40 min in the morning (130 steps in 60 seconds). And 40 min in evening followed by 10 min skipping rope and 30 min yoga i am feeling very good and very light and feeling that i have lost little weight

Come if I run my heel and ancles and joints hurt and people get injured every year well u have been doing it wrong for a long time I’ll let u figure it out your self watch just grab your phone or somethin play in in slow motion with ur shoes on run oh look I’m landing on my heel take ur shoes off and do a fast jog and now look on slow motion look where ur landing and that the natural way to run and all ur injuries will go away and u will full benefit from running everyday. If u do want to just know and not be lazy I’ll tell u. If forefoot and midfoot striking its better plus with ur bulky THICC shoes nice fomy comfortable shoes they actually deform ur foot. Why isnt going to work ever considered for excercise. My job is very physical. My steps are 7ooo-9000 a day just at work. That doesnt include all the lifting and fast pace. With the quarantine and all the gyms shut, I started doing +10K steps a day. Some days, I do less and other days, I do more. However, I lost a significant amount of body fat. This works especially when you combine it with about 16 hours of fasting 5 to 6 times a week.

I no longer do once a week grocery buys. I walk to my nearest grocery store with my reusable bag. I buy what I need to that day and walk back home. It feels like I’m going hunting for my food. My grocery store takes around 20 mins to walk to. sometimes i just go to just get one thing I need like milk. Not everyone lives close to the grocery store but the point is to incorporate walking into something you do everyday. If I didn’t live in such a big city I’d probably ditch my car

I walk 20000-25000 steps 3 to 4 days a week and eat mostly just protein macros on those days. Sometimes I eat so little my calories are only 500 or so because I walked so many calories off. But then next day on my work out days eat full macros, even beyond a bit. It makes cutting so much more enjoyable since I never really feel deprived like when doing a -500 every day cut like. I lose a lot of fat and generally keep my muscle and strength.
At first I wasn’t going outside and doing nothing. Then I downloaded noom (I got rid of it) it gave a daily walking goal. Started with 2000 then 2500 then 3000 then 3500. I was doing that indoors. Once I got rid of noom I got up to 5000 steps a day then moved to 10,000 all indoors. I’ve been going outside starting in May. I get between 10,000-14,000 a day give or take maybe every other day sometimes. Before quarantine I would get 10,000 easy between the trip to work and walking at work.

I started walking to work every morning, as well as walking home which is a bit uphill. It takes about 35-45 minutes each direction. I also do construction, so we are always walking. I never noticed any change until I took my diet serious, in which case, after only 3 days of eating salad for lunch and a light dinner, im seeing results in my belly fat.

Yes, walking do burn calories. Also for the people looking to burn more calories, you all should try hiking with a backpack. Then start increasing weight to your backpack. In the military we call this rucking. I stay shredded with doing this every morning for an hour when I was in the Marines.
1 hour walking burns about 300 calories maximum..meanwhile 15 minutes of jumping rope for instance burns the same amount of calories for the same person’s wight without getting bored walking in your room for an hour)

I started walking more at the end of May, my average daily step count was only 2-3k steps. I started walking around the house literally all day, I’ve went from 299 lbs to 244.8. My current average step count is at 31k per day. I’m averaging a 4-5lb weight loss ever 7 days. Answering to some of the common questions I got in the comments:
1. You don’t have to try and finish 10,000 steps in one go…that’s your target for the whole day,..however it would be nice if you could cover 5k-6k in one go.
2. You can walk on a treadmill, but I personally feel walking in outdoors is always better than walking in close doors

This is true. I could tell you with my experience..I think sometime low intensity workout is more effective then height intensity.. I used to go gym but due to COVID I have been going for race walking. It’s been a month and I can see changes. My fat percentage came down from 35 to 30 and weight is reducing gradually..

you just have to eat enough protein its not rocket science. i hate when people make things more complicated than what it is. if you don’t eat enough protein in a day your metabolism will automatically slow down your body takes more energy to break down protein than any other nutrient.

I walk while talking in phone. For any call received I get up and start walking while talking. For instance adding all call minutes official and personal, daily it is easily 2.5-3 hrs, and this is enough to get 8k-10k step range daily.:)
