Hunger Hormones Ghrelin.. A hormone produced by the stomach and small intestine when your stomach is empty. Adiponectin.. A hormone secreted by fat cells in your body. Cholecystokinin.. This hormone is produced in the small intestine during and after a meal. Peptide YY.. Made.Well, let me introduce you to some hormones that do just those things: the ” hunger hormones,” leptin and ghrelin.
Leptin is a hormone, made by fat cells, that decreases your appetite. Ghrelin is a.Digestive hormones Gastrin, Secretin, cholecystokinin, Gastric Inhibitory Peptide and Motilin; it helps and regulates the human digestive process.
Digestive hormones (gut hormones) are chemical ‘messengers’ which signal the gastrointestinal tract and accessory organs to perform different actions in order to coordinate the digestive process. It may act on an entire organ, part of the organ or specific tissues and cells to: Secrete enzymes for digestion – chemical digestion.Stress management is key.
There’s more! Cortisol. Cortisol, “the stress hormone,” is also thought to impact our appetite.
This hormone is release during times of fasting (including dieting and food restriction!!), food ingestion, exercising, and at times when one is under psychosocial stress.Once food enters your stomach, hormones help break down the food. According to the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, the main hormones that control digestion are gastrin, secretin, and cholecystokinin (CCK). They are produced and released by cells in the mucus linings of the stomach and small intestine. On the other side, unhealthy foods such as high glycemic foods, sugar, and alcohol can negatively impact your hormones, so it’s essential only to eat these foods in moderation. [Also Read: How to Manage Hunger Hormones] Foods That Regulate Hormones. Here’s how to balance hormones through diet, try eating these 9 foods. 1. Avocado.
In fact, abnormally high levels of ghrelin can make and keep you “hangry” all the time. As a result, you tend to consume more food and calories, and gain weight in the process. To lose weight and to control appetite, you need to control ghrelin levels. In this post, we will explore 15 ways to control hunger hormone ghrelin to lose weight.secretin: A peptide hormone secreted by the duodenum that serves to regulate its acidity.
There are five main hormones that aid in regulation of the digestive system in mammals. There are variations across the vertebrates, such as birds, so arrangements are complex and additional details are.Hypothalamus. While some people don’t consider it a gland, the hypothalamus produces multiple hormones that control the pituitary gland. It’s also involved in.
Leptin and ghrelin are two hunger hormones that play a significant role in your body’s energy balance. Leptin is a hormone produced by fat cells. High levels of this hormone decrease your appetite.
Typically, thinner people will have lower levels of leptin, and heavier people will have higher levels.Ghrelin is made in the stomach. It stimulates hunger by entering the brain and acting on the neurons in the hypothalamus to increase the activity of.The role of gastrointestinal hormones in the regulation of appetite is reviewed. The gastrointestinal tract is the largest endocrine organ in the body.
Gut hormones function to optimize the process of digestion and absorption of nutrients by the gut.Appetite and hormone fats differing in fatty acid chain length and saturation level differentially affect the secretion of metabolites and hormones that regulate food intake. Fat digestion. One of the important factors under hormonal control is the stomach acid environment.
During the gastric phase, the hormone gastrin is secreted by G cells in the stomach in response to the presence of proteins. Gastrin stimulates the release of stomach acid, or hydrochloric acid (HCl) which aids in the digestion of the proteins.

GREAT! Thank you!!
(just didn’t like the robotic narrator or music lol)
If leptin levels don’t change when we eat a fatty meal, how does it get communicated to the brain to stop eating in case of a fully fatty meal?
Hi! Could you please make a video about autophagy? How to activate it, etc. I tried not eating meat today and stopped eating right after breakfast but eventually felt terrible (also because I had coffee and took Lactofiltrum which probably washes out nutrients out of human body).
I didn’t last a minute, I can’t concentrate with that robotic voice
So if fat consumed doesn’t make a significant difference in leptin levels then how does it signal to the brain that your full. For example is you are straight butter, you would feel full but what’s the mechanism that explains that?
A teacher was hungry after school. This is what happened to his brain.
All common problems….Digestive system is key to health….Acid reflux,acid indigestion Nausea,stress hurts…
Im not learning this for school but im just interested about this topic! Especially because im trying to lose weight:)
I’ve not read infant formula, supplements since my own were born. We followed WIC and peds suggestions with input. I’ve always known they need be better. Mother’s milk does lack. No body is perfect.
I loved the Ghrelin part.
good way to remember the name.
🙂
THANKS
Can i ask for the narrated copy that you discussed?thank you.
rather than deep breathing, follow YOGIC BREATHING, it is the best yoga breathing exist on earth
Here is some Wisdom for you and the whole world
Gospel of John 7:38
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Thanks

Next meal is after body wastes urine excreta sweating are discharged.
Well, mine is forever gone, i have incurable LPR due to a damage to vagus nerve from a virus.
Love, love, love the homage to accepting people of all types at the end
9:08 Acceptance and body-positivity is nice, but that only helps with mental-health, it doesn’t help with body-health. Being accepted won’t stop cardiomyopathy or diabetes or joint-degradation; it’s called morbid-obesity for a reason. There’s nothing wrong with fixing people if they’re so big that it’s killing them—which is becoming the case for more and more people with each passing day.:-\ We need to change society in both acceptance and diet and exercise; they’re not mutually-exclusive.
Love this! My 72 yo mom and most people I know need this and someone like you to be their Nutritional and wellness counselor,
I need to become one, it’s been my dream for a while…
Pradi Willi syndrome is a bloody nightmare for a person to have I would not wish it on anyone
At 12:51 she mentions “the primary nerve that influences digestion.” Can anyone tell me the name of this nerve? She said it in the context of deep belly breathing, and that this breathing engages the nerve. Interesting… I’d like to know more:)
It’s not fat it’s peptides and amino acids that cause stimulation to release cck
Thank you so much and very much appreciate your work! This video explained it perfectly for me yet concisely in 5:39 mins.
Great material but the voice and pronounciation are bad….any way many thanks great effort
Thanks! Digestion wasn’t explained overly clearly in my physiology lectures, which doesn’t bode well for my final tomorrow. I feel much calmer about it now.
Great lesson, however i think you should mention how Leptin, Insulin and Ghrelin acts within the hypothalamus and more specificaly in the arcuate nucleus.
E.G Ghrelin interaction with NPY/AGRP and Insulin interaction with POMC.
I shared this with my K ETO community I have been doing some intensive reading about leptin and grehlin as I just celebrated 100 days without Binge eating as I am a former binge eater. I just did a video talking about how looking back even as far as 30 years ago I was always so confused at why I could consume enormous amounts of food and never feel full, or consume food and an hour later feel like I’m starving. Videos like this are so incredibly helpful to people like myself that are trying to take charge of my health and undo the vicious cycle of yo yo diet. Please continue making videos that are easy to understand for those of us without nutrition certifications. I’ve probably watched a 100 at different videos talking about leptin and grelon and this by far was the best one yet.
A bigger concern is that insulin blocks leptin at the hypothalamus. Obesity from high saturated fats doesn’t happen unless it’s on top of a high-carb diet. Don’t worry about the fat, worry about the Glucose & Fructose.
Am I the only one who dislikes how she pronounces “digestion”?
His hi Alila medical Media! A video about cellular immunity would be amazing. More about infections would be amazing!!
Very good, ´´take a few deep breaths before mealtime´´
´´rest and digest state´´ ´´practice slow deep belly breathing´´ ´´chew your food until it liquefies and then swallow´´ ´´say words of gratitude before mealtime.´´ ´´Digestion begins in the brain´´ ´´You are what you absorb´´ ´´Our entire digestion system is regulated by our nervous system´´ ´´no chocolate, no alcohol, and no coffee ´´
Trying to learn about this material while being taught by a robot is exceptionally frustrating. Please restrain from this in the future.
Seriously? “We all can read” What we are actually looking for is explanation & clarification of the mechanisms of these hormones & how they work simultaneously or independently and how that applies to our lives.
great video! The tone of the automated voice was not the best. I prefer to listen to something less robotic.
The narrator seems to have an endocrine pathology affecting his voice chords.
this is extremely helpful. worth more than the lecs students have to sit through
Fiber is the fourth macronutrient. The short chain fatty acids produced by fermentation are necessary for optimum health. These fats are the preferential energy substrate for the GI tract. I think the health benefits purported by advocates against eating meat are not so much the result of not eating meat, but of displacing it with dietary fiber.
So you already know this is a great descriptive video. And you already know the robotic voice is hard to keep up with, but what I’ve not read from comments was the problem with the Robot Voice has perhaps more to do with the TEMPO. The speed of your delivery was way too fast coupled with the robotic voice it was like one loooong run on sentence. Content and picture diagram was super great!
I do understand using the voice changer. Perhaps, if you don’t feel comfortable with your voice, slow down a bit. The speed was attractive to get a fast review and that I do like. Maybe break down into categories if you’re looking for review likes.
And I did choose this to view and ReView to review! But I had to stop and write, pause and think, very often because it’s sooooo fast.
Great work though! Looking forward to more! And I agree with the others, no background music.
Nice speaker, but i disagree many animals big cats, deer, rodents etc are under a state of high alert when eating looking out for danger of predators or food stealers. Ditch all packaged food and all foods not created by nature and digestion will take of itself.
You are awesome…. Very helpful video. I dnt need my boring professor anymore. my new professor for my next physiology exam is you. thank you so much bro
Can you remove the background music? It’s too distracting. This is a very helpful video.
Hello sir do parasympathetic defecation reflex increase number of waves or just intensify only?
Really great video! Although I’m pretty sure that G-cells are the ones to release gastrin
I can’t thank you enough for making these videos. You make it so interesting to learn. I watch all of your videos and your the reason I have an A in anatomy and physiology! THANKKK YOUUUU!
Thank you.Sat through all the videos this morning, maintained my interest and was extremely helpful.
Video is very good explanation
But the voice is very low please can elevate it
And thank you again ✨
Hello, this videos are good. I think It is better to have a white background.
the background music was distracting also having a real person talking and seeing them talk and explain would be better than just computer stuff
Thanks for the speech this was given to our question paper for our biology exam
The Grace prayer is a divine design for good health. Who knew.
TL;DR
1. Take a few deep, stomach breaths before meal
2. Be grateful for food you have
3. Chew, chew, chew, until food becomes a liquid
Thank you for this wonderful, informative talk!
A very informative video. Just, pleass, speak slower and take your time
Great points, also loved the way the speaker delivered in a very calm and composed tone.
Thanks to our Rab. Elhamdulillah. ALLAH create us for nullity. Just not create, Allah conquer our all needings. Vessalam.
what about Cholecystokinin (CCK)? Does it also go through the same pathway as leptin and insulin?
great… except for the fact that she did not know that salmon is one of the most unhealthy foods you can ever eat. And B12 is in everything that haven´t been cleaned.
What a sleeping pill that woman is. Doesnt come to the point, talks slowly, almost falls asleep while talking, says nothing really important. Make a 3 Minute video out of it. EASY THUMBS DOWN.
Wait, I thought Gastrin and Histamine were not involved in Peptic secretion?! I thought that was purely Vagal?
Wonderful and very important video! There are few who cannot gain weight whereas some who cannot lose weight. You can blame it all on metabolism. If you have tried the gym, diet and everything else and yet wondering why aren’t you losing your weight your hormone and metabolism is playing a big role. People should be aware that once the set point of the weight is broken, the body takes a big turn where your hormone needs only a bariatric surgeries intervention. Obesity has become an epidemic and every one in three people are suffering from it. We have treated Asia’s heaviest women and heaviest British and hold the world record for the same. We have seen thousands of patients and the number is sadly increasing. Read my blogs and understand the math behind metabolism. stay tuned at @t
7:04 Man saw what another man did there. This is what happened to his facial expression.
enlighten me pls, what is gastrointestinal energy delivery:(
it was getting tough to understand robotic voice human voice is more understandable but video has all content which I needed… thanks keep It up.
Our mindset at mealtime does influence our digestion. “pay attention not only to what we eat but also how we eat”. -Thoughtful statement
What a pleasing tone!! Thank you beautiful lady with a beautiful message.
Amazing video! Thanks for sharing. Digestion Support Capsules of Planet Ayurveda is very effective in the treatment of digestion related problems.
In my native land, we have a saying about digesting: Do not even move after eating even when you hear the death news of your parents.
Enjoyed the video, nothing groundbreaking but nice reminder to take your time and make eating a priority. These comments thou are spooky, such a wild mix of crazy “real knowledge” about dietary concepts and the working of the human body.
Hi, I need news about cellular immunity, too It will be perfect. Thanks
I was hoping POMC and maybe even AgRP neurons would be elaborated on:( I feel like the coursework I do is for the most part too advanced for online instructional tutorials because I can’t seem to find much on YouTube, or videos explaining the concepts at all for that matter. Just research papers on researchgate and other health/med databases
Gastrointestinal smooth muscle is beta or alpha receptors???!!!!!!
Great presentation, you did a wonderful job of tying your point together objectively
If you are what you eat. Im delicious, because I eat pizza all the time. Sorry for the bad joke
from the first 30seconds I understood what I couldnt by reading my teacher’s slides, life is not fair
This was so good. You just condensed my 2 hr lecture into a 10 min video! Thank you!
One of the target of CCK is brain due to signals SATIETY. Moreover, when we have glucose in duodenum it cause to release GIP from mucosa and its action is Insulin secretion, thank you very much..
Graphic presentation was perfectly balanced with body mechanism and in-depth research. Thanks Ali.
I cant undesrtand something:if ghrelin is been produced when the stomach is empty, and the stomach empties after 3 to 4 hours, thus we feel hungry at that time. So does that mean the the food hangs out in the stomach all this time then we feel hungry again but simultaneously the food goes to the small intestine. But in the small intestine horomones of satiety are been produces……that does not make any sense…. thanks
The content and the diagrams were great but like all the commenters I think a human voice would have made it easier to hear the information. On the plus side I found I had to fully concentrate on it to make sense of the badly pronounced words so I probably absorbed more information overall
My stomach started saying ghrelin today… the priest is on his way.
Thank you for the comprehensive explanation on digestion and the techniques for effective eating without stress.
Jesus cares what you think and believe. Mother nature doesn’t. She reacts at a subatomic level. Chemicals matter, acidity matter, temperatures matter. What our guts are setup to digest indicates a healthy diet for that species. Humans have the same GI tract as wolves, not monkeys. Humans are hyper-carnivores and don’t need plants or plant based foods in the diet. Our bodies cannot get at the nutrients in plants easily. Back to school for you.
Also don’t drink water 30 minutes before and after meals, as that dilutes your stomach acids.
Eat meals sitting down, preferably cross legged, so the blood supply is more around the digestive organs.
Genius 1:29
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
All things go through the mind
But it is always expressed in and through the body
Oh my, it’s almost like you knew I had to learn this for my physiology exam next week. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. Cleared up this confusing topic for me.
Loved This Lady!! She is so calm and composed! Delivered an important lecture for us not with a scary tone but with a pleasing tone throughout! Wow!
Excellant talk. Mindful delivery of the points by the speaker is wonderful.
very well presized and informative too..thank you so much..keep uploading….
It’s said not to eat anything an hour after a work out. The digestive system need times to cool down after a workout just like your muscles
CCK is produced by I cells located in the duodenal and jejunal crypts.
1:25
So does this mean if i lay down facing south, my fecal mater will crawl back up the descending colon?
All I had today was pasta and chicken slice of bread and had the worst stomachache I’m thinking maybe I needed more fiber but I truly don’t know I did drink a bunch of water to try to compensate
2 star video, maybe as someone said, you are what you think you are. this includes brain deficiency when you talk about using carbs for energy versus ketone bodies (38 percent). your so-called NORMAL carb physiology is NOT optimal energy. carbs are 38 percent less energy, 38 percent less energy for the brain. no wonder carb eaters are stuck w/less energy & therefore cannot improve (or struggle to) b/c “they know best”, lol, uh yeah okay. i am sure Sir Krebs, the one of the Krebs cycle, knew what he was talking about when he said it (38 percent more energy when using ketone bodies as an energy source). so, there you go, you can start now to improve your life to 38 percent more brain energy just by avoiding carbs. how imperative is it for people to realize that the brain is able achieve this level of performance? why would the brain even do this if it is not vitally important? why do people NOT even know this is a brain function of the highest level of health especially brain health? yes it IS the most optimal pathway to brain energy. (i) hope this helps you & everyone to see the light to the pathway of optimal brain activity which equals optimal brain health!!! you do not have to choose the optimal pathway, but you should realize the physiology (function) of the brain FIRST before you look like something less than an brain expert or second brain (gut) expert. as i said, you do not HAVE TO choose the optimal pathway (eating fats for ketosis & animal proteins for sugar), it is only a suggestion, just as it is only a suggestion that when you jump out of an airplane w/ a parachute, we suggest you pull the ripcord. therefore, we suggest you choose the optimal pathway, the one that gives you 38 percent more brain chi (life-force energy). *2*
It is clearly a law of medical youtube that at some point every video must pay homage to the great Emu
But in the small intestine horomones of satiety are been produces……that does not make any sense…. thanks
Interesting how her last suggestion is to say grace before a meal, a practice Christians have been doing for a long time. The Lord had it in his plans for proper digestion!
Koreans believe in the same thing.. if u r stressed out, u end up in indigestion
A NEW VERSION of this video (with a better voice over) has been uploaded! You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/7eRrDJzelh0
Everything that you say is correct but you use a vernacular that “like” reminds me of the movie Idiocracy. And f off with that “menstruating uterus owners” bs! That’s a WOMEN, And normal people are getting sick of your crap. There’s way more of us than there are of you. And we’re not going anywhere.
Fantastic! Thank you for making the learning process of the GI system so much more interesting!!!
One month of constant stress happened before 2 years…heat burn never is always disturbing….may be splinter dysfuntional…..
Great video! The sound level seems to be turned down on this video compared to your other videos. I had to listen through headphones to make it louder.
Thankyou! Really well explained.
Could you explain where you got pH of 3 from? Both my integrated anatomy and physiology as well as biochemistry books and lecturers say the pH needs to be <2 and the pKa is 2.8, just wondering if I'm missing a source!
This voice drives me nuts. Very hard to understand and follow, at times.
the contents of this video are excellent, I learnt a great deal from it, but as the previous comment stated, it was very robotic and not good listening, needs more feeling in the voice, add some passion to this great subject. the pace of delivery could be a little slower, listen to professor fink for guidelines, but thank you all the same it helped a lot. looking forward to more of your info.
love and light
karen
Instead eating watching digestive system is good. Tamil Thirukkural.
Bout time, great lecture, even say if i ate the best food proved to work for me, and my best friend gets hit by a mac truck, that food feels like coming up
Short, efficient, useful, and very well explained video!!! I subscribe
Someone wasn’t paying attention to the which frame of the Video that is being used as the Introduction Picture of the YouTube Video. Take a quick look & you can make the mistake of thinking which Finger is being held up! (Not what you’d expect to see in a TEDx event…….. Unless it was Richard Stallman who was the speaker,I suppose)
awesome man… thanks a lot dude… it was bugggin me for a long time…
anybody can translate it for me? i mean for spanish comunity please.
Please understand that she spoke in the same manner as she expected us to eat our meals, peacefully, without stress and in a restful manner. Walking the talk, literally.
10:29 Beverages like coffee, chocolate and alcohol all contribute to dysfunctional gate (DIGESTION)
I liked it except the salmon part unfortunately salmon and all fish weather there stream weather there farm raised weather there wild caught Are loaded with mercury and there’s no safety Elsa mercury and that’s true with all fish unfortunately
It’s what you eat, not how you eat it! “healthy nutritious plant foods” is exactly what ruins the human digestion.
I was learning physiology and was quite confused about the roles of these hormones but you have helped me like re-organize those things lol thank you so so much! ( but the voice and the tone was quite difficult for me to catch up tho!)
Love this talk! So My mama was always the last to finish eating, and spending a moment blessing/having resurrected for your meal is a part of most faith traditions ❤
She explained this VERY well! Keepers:

We. Are all indestructible spirits locked into a biological machine that is programed by the brain to self destruct at some point. We can make the best of our lives by taking care of this machine so it operates at optimum efficiency while inhabiting it.
human voice would be a lot better but material was covered very well in detail
Lot’s of great wisdom in this presentation. And such fundamental knowledge about how to optimise our efforts to eat well and stay well. Thank you very much. I am on a journey of healing myself, from the inside out, after an Autoimmune diagnosis. This presentation confirms that I am on the right track to becoming well again.
Slow down your speech please… for example, try as I may, I couldn’t figure out the word used on the weighing scale. Also technical words need to be spoken slowly and clearly audible. Interesting video overall though. Thanks for all the info.
how does this have so many views. why not use your own voice? I can’t even watch. I’m sorry, but u should just narrate yourself
This is simply one of the best lectures I’ve heard about nutrition. I appreciate her taking her time to explain how a sympathetic overdrive surpresses digestion and hence proper nutrient absorption. WE ARE WHAT WE ABSORB AND NOT JUST WHAT WE EAT. I love that catch phrase.
According to the instructions for my pre workout supplement. I have to have it on an empty stomach. After an intense workout, I notice I get really hungry. Is it the ghrelin? I think I have to eat something with my pre workout. Ignore the empty stomach instruction. I shall experiment. Because of my post workout snacks, my workout I just did was a waste of time.
It is so worst, that we need speakers, to show us, how life can work!
The following sights of the seeing must be cleared before they are starting to show, how it can work! But if the people, whom are running this system, are knowing that facts of life, they are also knowing how to get more and more money, land, workers for their own rules and a lot of more benefits!
There are a lot of informations on the internet, that the GMO food, hasn’t got these minerals inside! In the sight of the monoculture ground economy!
What do you think? Is it right or wrong, with that sight in the heaven and in the earth?
The aggriculuture isn’t balanced, instead of that economy, which is working for banking and pharmaceutical systems!
What would you say, if you hear these statements of science and physiological professional analysts, which tells us, that the vaccinations are robbing body-mind-and-living rooms, inand outside of us?
Please come back with correct informations!
the background musak makes it very difficult to understand the comments.
Very helpful. Thank you! Yes, the automated voice made it a bit more difficult to, shall we say, “digest”.
I used to turn on the TV news while I ate my breakfast, but for the past year or so I finally wised up. No more TV fearmongering news; I now eat my breakfast in peace, and with a heck-of-a-lot less stress. I turn on the music channel instead.

Her skin is glowing! And I think that we all can guess why.:) Thank you so much for such an insightful and helpful talk. This is my first time hearing “You aren’t what you eat. You are what you absorb.” It hit me hard. How come I never had this idea before? When I think about it, it’s so true. The same goes to many other aspects of our lives, and not just food. For instance, even if we were to read one of the best books in the world, we wouldn’t get anything out of it if we just look through each page briefly just to finish it. Little would we get from reading if we never put in thought to it and apply it to our own life. Thanks again for enlighting me. I will keep your lesson in mind and get ready to be in a rest mindset before eating each meal, starting from tomorrow’s breakfast!
HUGELY informative however the automated voice was difficult to understand and was a bit too fast.
Thank you so much for the video! it helps me a lot. But, I’m sure i will understand the material faster if the voice were the voice of an actual person:) either way the material is explained nicely, so great job!
Wow these videos are really useful and informative!! Also the quality its amazing! gj:)
You are what you absorb, not what you eat!
Wow! Makes sense!
speak slowly and in real voice not in robot like. video explanation is good. keep it up.
Healthy digestion is easy! Just eat a whole foods, plant based diet.
